When buying clothes in foreign online stores and especially auctions, such as eBay, you may often encounter the fact that instead of the usual size scales that everyone is used to, the product description gives actual sizes, which are often not correct. it's easy to figure it out.
But what about the current sizes? As a rule, no more than three or four are indicated in the product description, but there are a lot of measurement options. Plus they are indicated on English language, and, as usual, in inches. It's easy to get confused. Below, we tried to collect everything possible options. Some of them are used frequently, some very rarely.
And yet, many users who are experienced in online shopping simply keep a table with all their data at hand, which is very convenient. This does not mean that you need to spend an hour taking all the measurements that are described on this page; only the most common ones (chest, waist, shoulder width, etc.) are enough.
Some tips for taking measurements:
- For these purposes, it is best to use the classic, well-known measuring tape - a centimeter.
- It is better not to try to take measurements of yourself, but to use outside help.
- The person being measured should be relaxed, look straight ahead, stand straight, with feet shoulder-width apart. The uniform is as light as possible, without shoes. The process does not tolerate fuss; the person being measured should not change his position, turn his head, etc.
- When measuring circles, the maximum dimensions are indicated.

ACROSS FRONT AT SHOULDER
On the back side, between the top of the shoulder and the armpit, there is a midpoint, both on one side and the other. Then the size between them is measured.
APEX TO APEX
The size between the upper points of the bust (in other words, between the nipples).
ARMPIT TO ARMPIT
Size from armpit to armpit. Usually measured along the back.
BACK NECK TO WAIST
Size from the midline of the back at shoulder level to the waist. The term "Back length" is also used.
BACK SHOULDER TO WAIST
There is a midpoint between the top of the shoulder and the base of the neck and the vertical drops to the waist. Measured across the back.
BACK WIDTH
On the back, a few centimeters above the armpits on each side, points are marked, the size between which is then measured.
Literally "belt". Usually means waist circumference.
Biceps coverage. Below the shoulder, at the widest point. The hand is relaxed.
BUST POINT TO BUST POINT
The distance from one nipple to the other is measured.
CALF (SIZE)
Coverage of the lower leg, below the knee, at the widest point.
CHEST (SIZE)
Breast volume. The tape is passed under the armpits, at nipple level. A deep breath is not taken, the breath is not held.
COLLAR (WIDTH)
Gate width.
ELBOW (SIZE)
Elbow coverage. The measurement is carried out at bent arm, at its widest point.
FOREARM (SIZE)
Forearm coverage. Below the elbow, at the widest point, the arm is relaxed.
FRONT SHOULDER TO BUST POINT
The distance from the place on the shoulder where the neck begins to the corresponding nipple.
FRONT SHOULDER TO WAIST
Vertically, from the place on the shoulder where the neck begins to the place where the waist is measured.
FRONT NECK TO WAIST
Measured from the jugular notch to the waist measurement point.
FLOOR TO CROTCH
Leg length. From groin to floor. Measured by inside legs. Sometimes referred to as "Crotch to Floor".
GIRTH (SIZE)
Torso coverage. One end of the tape is placed on the shoulder at the base of the neck, the other is passed through the groin and closed on the same shoulder.
HALF CHEST
Chest circumference divided by 2.
HEAD (SIZE)
Head coverage. Measured above the eyebrows at the same level.
HIGH HIP
Hip circumference, which is measured approximately 5 cm below the waist measurement. Actually the place where the waist meets the hips.
Hip coverage. At the widest point. The term “Full Hip” is also used.
INSEAM (LENGTH)
Size from crotch to bottom of product. Measured by inner surface legs. Usually indicated for trousers, jeans, shorts.
KNEE TO FLOOR
The shortest distance from the center of the knee to the floor.
LENGTH (SHOULDER TO HEM)
Product length (from shoulder to hem). Inogla is indicated as “Length from high point shoulder to hem”.
NAP OF NECK TO HEM
Size from top of collar to hem. Measured across the back.
NECK (SIZE)
Neck coverage. Measured at its widest point.
OVERALL LENGTH
Total length of the product. From the top point to the bottom.
OUT-SEAM LENGHT
Size from waist to hem (the very bottom of the product). Usually indicated for trousers, jeans, skirts.
RIBCAGE (SIZE)
Exclusively women's size. Bust circumference, measurement is taken under the mammary glands.
Vertical size from the waist measurement to the groin. It is often used when indicating the sizes of jeans and trousers to give an idea of the waist level (low, high, normal).
SLEEVE (LENGHT)
The length of the sleeve. Size from top of shoulder to wrist. Measured by outer surface shoulder
SHOULDERS (WIDTH)
Shoulder width. It is also often referred to as “Shoulder to Shoulder” or “Shoulder Across”. Measured between the tops of the shoulders along the back. You can measure the distance between the seams on the shoulders of clothes that fit.

Size from where the neck begins to the top of the shoulder. Not used often.
SHOULDER TO FLOOR

Arm length. Measured from the center line of the back at shoulder level to the wrist.
Hip coverage, at its widest point.
UNDERARM TO WAIST
Size from armpit to waist. Usually the size indicated is for dresses.
UNDERARM TO UNDERARM
The distance between the armpits. Additionally, it may be indicated: Across front - measurement across the chest, Across back - measurement across the back.
