Electric razor repair using inexpensive batteries. Do-it-yourself repair of a Brown electric razor Do-it-yourself repair of a Brown 5612 electric razor

Page 1 of 3

After the Panasonic razor I handed in for warranty repairs did not return safely, I decided not to take risks with branded Chinese-made razors, but to take something decent.

Thanks to the guys from the Corporation Center store who helped me in this matter. I’m glad that there are finally stores with staff where you don’t have to fight about warranty repairs - everything is extremely correct.

So I was lucky enough to get a German razor from series 3 from Braun - Shaver 350cc-4. This razor is designed to reduce shaving irritation.

This razor belongs to the middle line of men's razors from Braun. The oldest line is the 7 series.

The kit also comes with a cleaning system.

The razor along with the cleaning system is packed in a stylish box. Unfortunately, the font on the information provided is small, making the text difficult to read.

A certain special cable is described in the package, but this is probably the name of the power supply.

The razor is made in Germany. By the way, a Panasonic razor assembled in Japan costs twice as much as a similar one from China. The Braun razor combines high quality and shaving comfort with an affordable price.

All accessories in the box are packaged in a foam block with compartments.

The set consists of:

  • the razor itself;
  • cleaning block;
  • replaceable cartridge for the cleaning unit;
  • charger, also known as power supply;
  • cleaning brush;
  • two brochures.

One of the brochures contains brief instructions for using the razor and cleaning unit, and also contains a tear-off warranty coupon. The second simply contains an insert on which you can write down the date and model of the shaving unit so you don’t forget to change it in time.

This insert is somewhat useless, since the razor has electronic reminders to replace the cleaning cartridge and shaving unit.

This model does not have an opening cover like other models - it is simply packed in a foam box.

The razor looks very elegant.

The sides of the razor are rubberized. On the side of this picture there is no special switch to set only one of the three, for shaving above the lip.

This function is also questionable, because due to the fact that there are no rims around the shaving foils, it shaves perfectly above the lip even without this function.

The connector for powering the razor has three pins, but one of them is not used.

The protective cover has slots to allow the razor to dry naturally when not in a cleaning device.

The cover is easy to remove and install, fits securely and does not wobble.

The cleaning device has an interesting shape. By the way, this cleaning method was invented by Braun.

The cleaning and charging device must be placed on a horizontal device so that the cleaning liquid does not spill.

The cleaning device is connected to the charger, which is included in the kit.

Repairing electric shavers with your own hands is within the power of a master. Soberly evaluate your existing skills, if you do not see the difference between an inductor and a capacitor, you are afraid to measure the voltage of 230 volts without threatening people’s lives, it is better to discard the idea. Anyone can clean the mechanism when an electric razor does not cut hair. But you can brag to your friends: now you know how to repair Mikma electric shavers.

Cleaning the head of your electric razor

Modern electric shavers form two broad classes:

  1. Rotary.
  2. Mesh.

The first are named for the knives that rotate the rotors of electric motors. Before we consider repairing an electric razor ourselves, we will describe the cleaning process. Most cases when the device refuses to form beards means that the working head is dirty. The electric razor kit is supplemented with a brush and a special aerosol. Let's find out the purpose of things.

Cleaning a rotary electric shaver

The head of an electric razor lasts no longer than 1 year. Afterwards it is considered: it’s time to replace. It is recommended to clean the unit once every three weeks. In the case of a rotary electric razor, you should start with the outer foils. We carefully go around each one with a brush, sweeping away any hair clippings.

Afterwards, the knife block is unfastened from the body of the electric razor. The unit is disassembled into its component parts. A holder with knives and nets is removed from the plastic frame. Each pair of cutting surfaces is separated into two parts. Now the table is dotted with:

  1. plastic frame;
  2. holder;
  3. two or three pairs of cutting surfaces, consisting of:
  • rotary knife;
  • grids

Each knife is shaped like a flange bushing. A piece of thick-walled tube, at one end there is a washer two to three times larger in diameter. On the resulting platform with a hole in the middle, beveled projections equipped with cutting surfaces are located in a circle. Be careful, even when dull, electric razor blades can cause harm to your health. By the way, this concerns grid models. Knives should be handled carefully. Everyone saw the net. Round parts with slits in a circle that slide along the skin when shaving.

We sweep each element of the electric razor head with a brush, if an aerosol is included in the kit, treat the knives and meshes, and clean again. All that remains is to put the units back together and install them back.

A slight click means the electric razor is ready to work. Check the product after assembly. It may happen that the parts are assembled incorrectly, or the knife block is crooked. The electric razor does not work and still does not cut hair - the operation was performed incorrectly.

Disassemble the electric razor following the recommendations above and reassemble it. It didn't help, it's time to buy a new head.

Cleaning your foil shaver

Wait a moment to pick up the brush. You can't do it. Even soft touches of the bristles can damage the correct shape of the mesh. The electric razor does not work as well and the blades may become blocked. It is difficult to straighten the mesh at home without causing damage. Electric razor repair shops will be useless assistants.

First. If the razor is washable, clean it after each use. Keep one thing in mind. An electric razor is good for the first 3-5 procedures after purchase. Then the bacteria begin to rapidly multiply in the head, each use brings irritation to the skin, which special personal hygiene products are powerless to remove. Instead, try to find a disinfectant aerosol and treat the blades before washing. Naturally, the means must be intended for these purposes. Try holding your knives under a UV lamp to block the growth of bacteria.

Regarding other types of foil electric shavers, clean them every few procedures, without using water. For this purpose, the mesh is carefully removed. Clean off any remaining hair by blowing thoroughly. Try removing the head and gently tapping the end of the table. Partially removes dirt from the electric razor's mesh. The knife block is fanned with a brush. If the kit contains an aerosol, use it for additional cleaning of the device.

Similar to the previous case, try the foil electric razor after assembly. The effect is unsatisfactory - it’s time to buy a new head.

If your electric razor stops working

Rotary electric shavers

The internal structure of a rotary-type electric razor is simple. A motor is mounted inside, transmitting torque to two or three knives through an output shaft and an eccentric gear. Externally, the mechanism is protected by a plastic case.

To filter the instability of the supply voltage, there are several chokes and capacitors inside. Electric shavers designed for use with different voltages have a special switch. To technically implement the possibility of operating from different networks, the stator coil has four windings. Copper wires covered with cambrics have a fixed color.

Knives

Before disassembling the electric razor, try turning it on without the blades. There is no automatic locking if the head is missing - the drive must rotate. It turns out that the problem is in the head. Take it off, take it apart, have a look. It is possible that the electric razor assembly hums and the knives refuse to rotate.

Nutrition

The next step is to check the network voltage. It’s ok - disconnect the wire with the connector from the case, measure the voltage by plugging it into the socket. Caution: Be extremely careful to avoid electric shock. Check the cord by ringing it with a multimeter (tester). The signal is transmitted uncertainly - the problem is a floating cliff. Try supplying power to the electric razor through a different cord. OK - the problem is limited to the wire.

Filter elements

Now comes the turn of chokes and harmonic filter capacitors. Depending on the specific design of the electric razor, testing is done differently. In a difficult case, the elements are soldered (removed) one by one and the integrity is examined:

  • the throttles are ringing;
  • capacitors are not swollen.

There are special instruments - it would be useful to measure the values of the elements. The capacity of swollen capacitors is less than the number emblazoned on the case. It’s simply impossible not to notice.

You can go a different way. Disconnect the stators, measure the terminal voltage in both switch positions. Be careful to avoid electric shock. The multimeter probes are connected to the switched off device.

Stators

If no fault is identified, we move on to the stator windings. Call each one if you know the location of the pins. The winding resistance is units of Ohm. It is impossible to repair a razor with a faulty stator at home.

The terminals ring in pairs - not enough, there is no guarantee of complete serviceability. Carefully measure the output current of the voltage switch in both positions. Let’s make a reservation right away: Russians in the country use a nominal value of 230 volts; measurements in this position will be sufficient. If there is no current, the problem is limited to the stator.

You can wind stator coils at home if you have the appropriate skills. You can buy suitable ones.

Anchor

The next thing you should do when repairing electric shavers is to examine the armature winding. Let's check the voltage value of the motor brushes. The voltage is present, the razor does not work - the problem is in the armature winding. Rewind it at home if you know the wire parameters, number of turns, and other characteristics.

Check the stator windings and armatures with a multimeter. Each one is removed from the electric razor and called. You can also measure the resistance.

Foil electric shavers

Repair of foil models and Remington electric razors follows a similar path. In conclusion, I would like to say: the breakdown of a block of knives with two meshes is not a death sentence. Find a second copy that is faulty and suffers from a different type of failure.

Of the two blocks, the one with the knives in order should be repaired. Try to evaluate the sharpness, try how well the pendulum moves back and forth. Repair the unit of the foil shaver that is better. It is strictly not recommended to rearrange grids from other models of devices or try to make the part yourself.

Each mesh is secured with several plastic holders. To notice, remove the knives from the head and look carefully from the inside. Each mesh can be removed effortlessly. A small slotted screwdriver can help.

The review is finished. It’s better to take an expensive razor to a workshop and learn how to repair it using a cheap one! We recommend storing samples of household appliances that are thrown into the trash bin. As experimental material, they are invaluable for the beginning handicraftsman. The experience gained will, of course, be useful in the future.

You can often hear the question - which is better, a machine or an electric razor? There is no definite answer; approximately the number of adherents of one or another method is divided in half, since everyone has different tastes, capabilities and needs. For example, if a person often goes on business trips and is unable to use a razor in the car, library or living room, or has no extra time (very busy), then an electric razor is a good choice.

Electric shavers, like cars, are cheap - for 400-500 UAH, and there are expensive ones - for 2000-3000 UAH or more. Both of them shave, but different designs, quality, and the prestige of the company are also taken into account. I don’t think it’s worth buying an expensive electric razor if your income is not high, since both of them break (wear out), and repairing an expensive electric razor will cost many times more. Or, as often happens with expensive gifts, as soon as its original resource runs out and it requires repair, it immediately goes into the trash.

And if you do maintenance on your electric razor in time and replace worn-out parts, then it can serve for years and even decades, like the well-known Kharkov razor, especially model 33. Let us briefly consider the structure of electric shavers, what you need to pay attention to and how to repair them.

Electric shavers come in foil and rotary types.

Foil-type electric shavers are driven by an electric vibrator, and the head consists of a flexible metal mesh that covers a blade unit on a holder (knife), which makes a rapid reciprocating movement. In some foil electric shavers, the oscillatory motion is provided by a conventional rotary electric motor connected to the blade using a crank mechanism.

Rotary-type electric shavers have from 1 to 3 knife heads, each of which consists of a rapidly rotating knife located under a mesh disc. The knives are made of hardened steel; as a rule, no one sharpens them, but when they wear out, they are replaced. Such razors are usually driven by rotary electric motors connected to the knives through a gearbox and drive shafts. Hence the name - rotary razors.

Both the most expensive razors and not so expensive ones - all are made according to the principles listed above - to operate knives that shave off the stubble. Using the Kharkov-33 razor as an example, let’s look at how to repair electric shavers. Here are its insides, except for the leather circles that are prepared for the anthers.

As you can see, nothing overly complicated: an electric motor, knives, a gearbox, anthers, a switch.

The razor usually stops shaving for the following reasons:

The carbon brushes are worn out, which means they need to be replaced;
- knives are worn out;
- the mesh has worn out, a hole has formed, which makes shaving impossible;
- electric motor malfunctions (most often the coil or rotor burned out);
- gearbox malfunction;
- broken power cord or poor contact in the connector (can be soldered directly), etc.

Electric razor repair consists mainly of replacing worn parts, cleaning and lubrication. But there are also nuances, and each razor model has its own. For example, in the rotary electric razor “Kharkov - 33” the thin part is the anthers, they are made of foam rubber and after some time they tear.

As a rule, such parts are not available for sale, and with a damaged boot, the shaving quality deteriorates significantly. In all other respects, the razor is excellent - it shaves well, is comfortable in the hand, relatively quiet, easy to repair, but here’s the problem, a design flaw that, in principle, can be easily eliminated.

Anthers can be made with your own hands, from soft leather, for example, or from thick, but not too thick, fabric (see photo). The boot should not greatly hinder the deviations (bends) of the shaft, since the heads of the electric razor are made floating.

The photo shows a disassembled boot, you need to cut a hole in the leather circles and use glue (shoe - polyurethane or “Moment”) to place them on metal bushings, and from a piece of thin getinax (plastic is possible) make an additional part - a “figure eight”, with which you can will secure these anthers.

The factory anthers were simply sealed (secured) using getinaks washers (see photo above) and plastic protrusions on the body, so we need a “figure eight”, which we will fasten with screws.

And the screws can be taken from an old audio cassette; they are ideal for this purpose.

Using an awl we mark where the holes for fastening will be, i.e. With a core and a thin drill of 1.2-1.3 mm, we drill the anther body together with the “eight”, through and through, in 4 places.

And that’s what happened, now our razor boots are collapsible and can easily be replaced or restored again. That's it, we assemble the razor and use it for our pleasure.

When the anthers wear out, bristles and skin flakes get inside the razor, absorb lubricant, the gearbox becomes clogged, and as a result it barely turns, causing the razor to overheat and may simply “burn out” (coil or rotor). Therefore, periodically, once every 1-2 years, you need to disassemble the razor, sweep out all this garbage from there and lubricate everything again, but not too much, so as not to leak. Lubricant - regular car oil, any kind.

Maybe one day the day will come when a new hair removal technology will be invented and there will be no need to shave, but this will not happen today or tomorrow, which means such a device as a razor must always be in good condition, in order, then shaving will be to joy.

After all, shaving is a daily denial of Darwin's theory... :)

Even though thick, well-groomed beards are now in fashion, a clean-shaven man has always attracted women. What helps you be so clean-shaven? — Electric razor. They are wonderful in every way, except that they break, and it is quite possible to repair a Brown electric razor with your own hands, if only you have the desire. And it should arise, because it is not at all a fact that instead of a device that is ideal in all respects, you will receive a new one, but not so convenient. We will tell you exactly how to repair an electric razor in this article.

Cleaning the shaver head

As you know, all modern electric shavers are divided into 2 main classes:

  • Mesh;
  • Rotary.

Rotary knives are so named because the knives rotate like a rotor. Before we consider repairing an electric razor ourselves, we will describe the cleaning process. Perhaps you don’t have to repair anything, you just need timely care of the device parts.

In most cases, when the device stops fighting the beard, this means that the head is clogged. Quite often, the electric razor comes with a brush and a special aerosol. It's time to find out what these items are for.

Cleaning a rotary electric razor

Roughly speaking, the head of an electric razor lasts no more than one year. After this period, it is considered time to change it. And of course, once every 3 weeks it is recommended to remove dirt from this block. If we are talking about a rotary electric shaver, start with the outer foils:

  1. Carefully but gently pass the brush around each of the meshes, sweeping out any hair clippings.
  2. After this, unfasten the blade block from the body of your electric razor. Typically, this module is disassembled into its component parts.
  3. Remove the holder with knives and nets from the plastic frame.

Pairs of cutting surfaces are also divided into two parts. After disassembly, you should have on your table:

  • plastic frame;
  • holder;
  • rotary knife.

Each knife has a flange bushing shape. This is a piece of thick-walled pipe, at the end of which there is a washer three times larger in diameter. On the appeared platform with a hole in a circle in the middle, there are beveled protrusions along with cutting surfaces.

Important! Be extremely careful, even when dull, electric razor knives can cause harm to human health. By the way, the same applies to grid models. That is why you should handle knives with extreme care.

Everyone saw the net. They are round parts with small holes in a circle that slide during shaving:

  1. Use a brush to sweep each part of the shaver head. If the razor comes with an aerosol, then spray the foils and knives with the aerosol and clean again.
  2. Now put all the elements together and install them back.
  3. A slight click means that the electric razor is completely ready for shaving.
  4. Be sure to check the mechanism after assembly. It may well happen that the parts are assembled incorrectly, or the knife block is crooked.
  5. In this case, disassemble the electric razor following the above recommendations.

If this doesn't help, then it's time for you to buy a new head.

Cleaning your foil electric razor

Do not rush to take up the brush, as in the previous case. You can't do this. Even gentle touches can damage the original shape of the mesh. In this case, not only will the electric razor work worse, it is quite possible that the knives will be blocked.

Instead of trying to clean the razor:

  • Find a disinfectant spray and spray the blades with it before washing. Of course, this tool must be intended for these purposes.
  • Also try to keep the knives under ultraviolet rays (lamp) in order to block the growth of bacteria.

Rotary electric shavers

To find out which part of the electric razor needs repair, we proceed step by step.

Engine

The internal mechanism of a rotary electric razor is quite simple:

  • Inside there is a motor that, using an output shaft and an eccentric gear, transmits torque to two or three knives. Everything on the outside is protected by a plastic casing.
  • In order to filter the instability of the supply voltage, there are several chokes and capacitors inside.
  • Electric shavers that are designed for use with a variety of voltages must have a special switch. To implement the technical capabilities of operating from various networks, the stator coil has four windings. As a rule, their wires have their own fixed color.

Knives

Before you disassemble the electric razor yourself, try to turn it on without the blades. In the event that there is no automatic blocking when the head is absent, the drive must rotate. If this happens, then the problem is in the head. Remove it, disassemble it and inspect it.

Important! In this case, it is possible that the electric razor assembly hums, but the knives themselves do not rotate.

Nutrition

The next step is to check the electrical voltage. If everything is in order with the network, disconnect the wire together with the block from the case and measure the voltage on it by connecting it to the socket.

Important! Be extremely careful to avoid electric shock.

You can check the cord by testing it with a multimeter. If the signal is quite erratic, you may be dealing with a floating cliff. In this case, try to supply power to the electric razor through a different wire. If everything is in order, then the problem itself was directly in the wire.

Oh my gosh, it hit me! This is how many years ago it has been, but it still hits unpleasantly. And I just touched the board...!
...So.
What am I talking about? Oh yes, about electric shavers, sir!

This thing is very necessary and often used for most guys. Therefore, I think what is described below will be useful.

Cordless electric shavers were invented by guys because other guys who invented electrical wiring didn’t figure out to make a socket near the mirror. And the aunties who designed the interior didn’t think to hang a mirror near the socket.
An electric razor is a fairly simple thing. Plugged it into the socket, held it, turned it off and buzzed for up to 30 minutes, then plugged it back into the socket. Just clean it on time.
Well, change the knives and mesh again every six months. And lubricate it sometimes. Yes, yes, Brown also has oil in the kit.

At least that's what the instructions say.

But this is what it doesn’t say.
The batteries in all old devices are NiMH. And their degradation occurs much faster than the wear and tear of the mechanics and electrical circuits of the razor. If we add that few people have the habit of completely discharging the battery before charging, then a “memory effect” is also imposed, which contributes to accelerated battery degradation.
But even if the battery is driven to its full capacity, it will still degrade.

This happened to me the other day. The battery dies sharply and quickly after a certain level.
The razor, in principle, allows you to work from the network, but see the point about spatial incompatibility of sockets and mirrors.
You can, of course, buy a new razor for 2000 rubles.
But is it necessary? This one works quite well, there is not even any critical wear. In addition, there is always a patriotic amphibian of the “toad” type at the post.

The Toad says that you need to get into the razor “and silently fix everything.”

Well, we take a razor and look, as in that joke, but where is it...
Browns are characteristic, I would say, neatly hidden with everything they need. This model also has easy disassembly, if you can find it somewhere.

The razor's fasteners are neatly hidden under small covers on the back.

First, the screws are removed, then the end fragments. After this, the “lock” is open.

And the entire body panel with switches and trimmer can be removed “back and up.”

Here is the entire panel, inside and out. A bit dirty. Well, yes, that’s possible in 7 years.
Now hide the whole thing in a bag along with screws, plugs and panel fragments.

What we have inside: This is already with a new battery, on the right is the old one, there is a small photo anachronism.

The new battery is bigger. I would have installed the same one, but alas, there was simply no such size.

That's why this one is used.

It is longer than the old one, so I had to cut out a kind of limiter in the body:

Now it will fit fine.

The new battery is soldered to the board using a new soldering station with a power of 85 W. Previously, for the task of attaching contacts to the can, it was necessary to heat a hundred-watt one.

This results in a picture like this:

I check the voltage and charge it overnight. While the case is disassembled and charging, it is better not to touch the board, it will click quite noticeably, as at the beginning of writing the text.

Before assembly, all panels should be blown, for example with this:

It knocks out all the dust and dirt very well, even from cracks.

As a result, there is a razor with a new battery.
Price of work:

  1. new battery 147 rub.

  2. blowing 30 rub.

  3. solder and wire 20 rub.

This is against 2000 for a new razor.
And it took longer to write the article.
