Gas lamp for a tent: how to use and which one to choose? How to change the mesh in a gas lighting lamp? DIY catalytic mesh for a gas lamp

Thanks to their qualities, LEDs have become a part of our everyday life. They are a semiconductor diode that emits light when voltage is applied.

LEDs have undeniable advantages over conventional lighting devices - fluorescent lamps, incandescent lamps and gas-discharge lamps. These devices have small sizes, they do not contain filaments, harmful substances, fragile glass flasks. Electricity consumption is several times less compared to conventional light sources, and the service life is much longer.

For homemade products based on LEDs, there are many solutions for the manufacture of various lighting devices. If you create lighting fixtures with your own hands at home, you can use different waste materials. Therefore, you can do something original with your own hands and save on purchasing lighting products at retail outlets.

In my article I will tell you how to make an LED lamp from an aerosol can and a faulty energy-saving lamp in half an hour.

The process of making a homemade product can be seen in the video:

List of tools and materials
- aerosol can then deodorant;
-screwdriver;
-knife or scissors;
- soldering iron;
-tester;
-electronic ballast from an energy-saving lamp or a ready-made driver for a current of 0.3A;
-white LED 1W-15 pieces;
-pulse diodes FR207-4pcs;
-thermal paste;
- connecting wires.

Step one. Disassembling the lamp.
We disassemble the energy saving device into its component parts. Disconnect the filament of the glass bulb from the board. Then, if the electronic ballast board is working properly, you can wind the secondary winding around the inductor and power the LEDs through the diode bridge. I will not dwell on this in detail, since the redesign of the electronic board has already been described in the previous article. You can also use a ready-made driver for LEDs in this homemade product with an output current of 0.3A, and the voltage depends on the number of LEDs used in the lamp.

Step two. Manufacturing of LED lamp housing.
LEDs generate heat during operation, so they need to be installed on a heat sink. The efficiency of a radiator depends on the thermal conductivity of the metal, its area and shape. In this case, I used an aluminum deodorant can so that its diameter matched the base fluorescent lamp and wall thickness and surface area were appropriate to the task. First, make sure there is no liquid or residual pressure in the cylinder. Next, we cut off the top part of the can with scissors, try it on the base, and make holes for fastening with screws.

Using a knife, we make rectangular cuts for the passage of cooling air inside the cylinder. Then we glue the LEDs onto thermally conductive glue; their location depends on your imagination, provided they are evenly distributed. We solder the connecting wires to the LEDs in a serial pattern and connect them to the converted board or driver, observing the polarity.

We turn on the lamp to the network and measure the current consumption of the LEDs - it should be no more than the rated current of 0.3A.

Step three. Checking the LED lamp.

To check the heat transfer of the radiator, I glued a sensor electronic thermometer to the lamp body. The temperature was 45 degrees, which is quite good result. It must be remembered that Maximum temperature The temperature of the LED housing should not exceed 60 degrees, otherwise it will fail.

And another option with tin cans - from a tin or beer can you can make a lampshade for LED lamp cutting out decorative holes.

Example in the photo. Lampshade from a jar.

A gas lamp for a tent is a source of bright, non-directional lighting. Such lamps are used today by tourists, hunters, and fishermen.

How does a gas lamp work?

The structure of a gas lamp and a gas burner are identical, with the only difference being that the head of the gas lamp is a rod on which there is a catalytic mesh that ensures the device glows brightly. The mesh is protected from external influences by a glass shade, which has a metal cover attached to metal frame on the gearbox. A chain or wire bow is provided for hanging the device. The kit may also include spare nets and a transport case.

So the device gas lamp for tent is quite simple and reliable. Its weak elements (shade and mesh) are always available for sale and are inexpensive. They can be purchased in our online store, which also offers a wide range of various goods for recreation and tourism (for example, here you can purchase gasoline burners for winter fishing , tents, rugs, tools, etc.).

How to use gas lamps correctly?

The use of gas lamps has its own characteristics, among which the following can be emphasized:

  • It is important to monitor the condition of the mesh - if holes begin to appear in it or it begins to crumble, then it should be urgently replaced, since further use devices is not possible;
  • To operate such a lamp or lantern you need a little pressure, so if you use gas infrared heater to heat a tent or a gas stove for cooking, then for a gas lamp you can use half-empty cylinders (the remaining gas in the cylinder is quite enough for normal lighting);
  • You should purchase only branded gas cylinders for a gas lamp and avoid using alternative options fuel to avoid clogging and lamp breakage;
  • If the lamp model you choose does not have piezo ignition, then you should take a lighter or matches with you.

What can you purchase in our online store?

In our online store you can choose gas equipment from Kovea, which is suitable for use in fishing, hunting, and outdoor recreation. Gas lamps from this manufacturer occupy leading positions in the market due to the excellent quality of the products and ease of use. More recently, the main problem with Kovea gas lamps has been poor performance in winter conditions. But with the transition to propane, gas lamps can easily operate down to -40 degrees, thereby beginning to displace gasoline burners and lamps from use.

The store's catalog also includes Orgaz gas lanterns, which are connected to a household valve gas cylinder. Such lamps are well suited for those people who travel to their destination by car. For fishing in Russian conditions, such lamps are simply ideal, as they can work with local propane cylinders, and at the same time the cost of their use is low. However, such lamps are somewhat inferior in brightness to Kovea lamps.

In addition to gas lamps, lanterns and heaters, in our store you can purchase various camping equipment and items necessary to ensure comfort in camping conditions. For example, tourist knives online store“On the Seven Winds” offers to purchase various forms, handle colors and at attractive prices. All you have to do is choose the product you like, put it in your cart and wait for a call from the store manager to clarify all the delivery details.

Gas lamp- This lighting fixture, operating on the principle of burning gaseous fuels such as: methane, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, propane, butane, acetylene, ethylene, natural gas or lighting gas. Gas lamps emit extremely bright light in the white spectrum.

The principle of operation of gas lamps.

The gas begins its combustion at the outlet of the nozzle, as a result of which it heats up a special mesh, which is covered thermoluminophor. It is this grid that emits light. After the first firing, the mesh becomes fragile, but it can be used for a long time. Gas lamp grid covered with a shade made of glass, but today you can see lamps with a mesh shade made of metal. The lampshade performs a protective function and prevents the flame from dying out. Gas lamps have a light weight from 100 grams to 2 kilograms. Gas lamp power depends on the units of illumination used, which range from 35 Lux to 250 Lux, when compared with incandescent lamps, this is on average from 40 W to 150 W.

To calculate the room illumination, you can use the room illumination calculator.

Advantages of gas lamps.

The main advantage of gas lamps is light. Such a lamp can be hung inside a tent, and its brightness is enough to illuminate a two-person or four-person tent.

The model with piezo ignition eliminates problems associated with matches; if you lose matches or they get wet during a hike, you will not be left without light. A gas lamp produces a sufficient amount of thermal energy and can heat a room, but lamp manufacturers do not recommend this.

Choosing a gas lamp.

Manufacturers of gas travel lamps offer several types, each of which has its own characteristics. The main criterion for purchasing is the power of the lamp. You should choose a gas lamp based on the number of meters illuminated. Models are available with and without cases. The case itself weighs about 100 grams, so it will not weigh down your luggage much. The gas lamp cover can be used as a stand. When purchasing, be sure to pay attention to the cylinder mounts. There are lamps for disposable cylinders ( collet) or threaded. In the first, the cylinders are simply punched out and used for one time, while the second can be filled in the future.

Operation of a gas lamp.

  1. Place the gas lamp on the gas cylinder.
  2. Remove top cover and remove the meshes.
  3. Remove the lampshade.
  4. Put the nets on the gas lamp

Straighten the mesh and place it on the rod of the gas lamp. Place the lower part up to the lower stop, and pull the upper part over the upper stop. In some modifications of the mesh, it is necessary to tie a knot in the area of the lower stop of the rod, threads that provide reliable fastening. Before ignition, the mesh must be straightened.

Using the gas supply regulator, release the gas and light the mesh with a match or lighter.

Burn the mesh without turning down the gas until it burns completely, the smoke stops coming out, and the mesh itself settles on the rod and takes the form of a brightly glowing ball that is impossible to look at.

Turn off the gas and let the gas lamp cool down.

After this, replace the glass shade, close the top cover, and reassemble the gas lamp in the reverse order.

To subsequently ignite the gas lamp, use only the piezo ignition button.

The blowtorch is a liquid fuel burner with a needle feed regulator fuel mixture and a fuel tank with a manual pressurizer. The compact and simple design of the device, which ensures reliable autonomous operation, is the reason for its great popularity in household any practical man. Different kinds Blowtorches are also used in industrial metalworking and the food industry.

How does a blow torch work?

In a gasoline blowtorch hand pump located directly in the fuel tank. To light the lamp, you need to close the shut-off valve-regulator of the fuel mixture and make several swings with the pump handle to create excess pressure in the tank. Then you need to heat the burner to operating temperature, for which you should pour a little gasoline into a special cup under it and set it on fire.

When the heating flame burns out, the shut-off valve opens, and fuel under pressure escapes through the nozzle in the form of an air-fuel mixture and ignites. Using the regulator, the required flame size is set. In the future, to maintain overpressure The pump in the tank should be periodically primed. To extinguish the torch, you need to close the tap, release excess air pressure in the tank through check valve or by unscrewing the pump cover.

There is no booster pump in a gas blowtorch, since it uses ready-made gas cylinders containing liquefied gas under high pressure. The cylinder is connected to the burner through a fitting, when pressed, gas is supplied. A piezoelectric spark gap is used to ignite it. Unlike a gasoline lamp, a gas device does not require preheating, which makes it more practical and convenient.

For gas lamps, the industry produces two types of cylinders - disposable and reusable with flange and threaded fastening. Disposable cylinders are low cost, but do not have an adjustable valve for dosing gas flow and flame size. They are designed for single use and cannot be refilled. Reusable cylinders have a threaded head, screwing which into the neck of the burner leads to the opening of the valve and the flow of gas to the ejector. When the gas runs out, these cylinders can be refilled. When purchasing a burner, you need to pay attention to what cylinders it can be paired with.

Blowtorch device

Features of using a gasoline blowtorch

Even 20 years ago, a gasoline blowtorch was an indispensable tool in the household of every motorist or mechanic. Although other alternative heating devices have appeared in recent decades, gradually replacing them in many areas of production, they can still be successfully used in private households to perform the following work:

  1. heating the soldering iron and solder;
  2. melting and welding of metals with a low melting point of 900-10000C;
  3. annealing old paintwork;
  4. bending metal pipes;
  5. defrosting ice plugs in water supply and sewerage pipes;
  6. heating frozen engines and bitumen;
  7. tars from cattle skins;
  8. annealing rusty threaded connections etc.

Low octane grades of gasoline should be used as fuel. In this case, the tank must be filled no more than two-thirds, so that there is space left to create excess air pressure sufficient to lift the mass of fuel along the guide tube and wick into the evaporator and effectively atomize. To obtain such pressure, it is enough to perform 6-10 full swings of the pump piston. In this case, movements should not be too sharp so as not to damage its rubber seals.

To heat the burner, you can use part of the lamp fuel, but ethyl alcohol is better for this, as it does not leave soot on the body of the device and does not stain your hands. This procedure should be done in a place protected from the wind, but open place. The readiness of the lamp for operation is checked by opening the fuel supply valve. If at the same time a stream of steam comes out of the nozzle, then you can set it on fire with a match or lighter and adjust the torch. If a stream of liquid comes out of the nozzle, then the tap must be closed and the heating process repeated. Several independent attempts to start a blowtorch will help you gain experience and skills in handling the tool.

Video: Blowtorch

By rotating the knob for adjusting the position of the locking needle, you can change the amount of fuel supplied to the nozzle and adjust the size of the torch, which must be selected depending on the type of work being performed. After startup, the body of the device will gradually heat up from the flame and, accordingly, the air pressure in the tank will increase, which leads to an intensification of the torch. After some time, the process will be established, the lamp will fully enter operating mode, and the flame will stabilize, as can be judged by the even hum of the fire.

To speed up the lamp's entry into operating mode, you can direct the flame to a nearby steel sheet, which, by reflecting heat, will help quickly warm up the lamp. If during operation the flame spontaneously begins to lose stability or goes out, then you need to close the tap and clean the nozzle with a thin and long needle included in the blowtorch kit. Rapid clogging of the injector is possible due to poor quality low-octane gasoline.

To complete the job and extinguish the flame, you need to tighten the fuel regulator all the way to completely stop its supply. Next, you need to wait for the lamp to cool down, and only then release the residual pressure in the tank by opening its neck. A blowtorch is a high-risk device, which, if handled incorrectly, can cause a fire or explosion, since the fuel is in close proximity to an open flame. Therefore, it requires compliance special measures safety and careful handling.

Safety precautions when working with the lamp

To ensure personnel safety, when operating the lamp, the following is prohibited:

  • use the device for its intended purpose when detecting fuel leaks;
  • do not use as fuel established by the instructions fuel;
  • allow the tank to heat up to 500C;
  • operate the lamp with a faulty safety valve;
  • refill fuel while the lamp is operating or open the neck when the evaporator is not cooled down;
  • Use the lamp in a closed or unventilated area.

Criteria for choosing a blowtorch

  1. Depending on the type of fuel used, blowtorches can be kerosene, gasoline and gas. The first two types have a low price, but high heat transfer. Gas apparatus lighter in weight and easier to operate, but more expensive.
  2. Based on the volume of the tank, which determines the duration of operation without refueling. The larger the volume, the longer the device can work, but the larger its dimensions and weight. Gasoline lamps are produced with a tank capacity of 0.5 to 2 liters, the duration of continuous operation of which ranges from 25 to 75 minutes.
  3. The presence of a torch regulator allows you to obtain the desired flame temperature required to work with various materials and execution different types works

One of the best additions to camping gas burners is lamps. This product serves as an excellent light source and, in addition, it allows you to heat the tent in the shortest possible time. In this case, there is no need to use additional equipment, because the lamp is installed on gas cylinder, intended for the burner.

Product Features

A gas lamp is one of the most practical and reliable devices. The standard configuration of any gas lamp includes:

  • Transport case.
  • Spare mesh.

However, this product also has its own weak sides, which include:

  • Catalytic meshes.
  • Plafonds.

But if necessary, such elements can be easily selected and purchased at any equipment store.

The principle of operation of a gas lamp

The principle of operation of a gas lamp is quite similar to gas burner. The main difference between these devices is the installation of the head, which is a special rod designed to accommodate a special mesh, which ensures the lamp glows. The mesh is reliably protected from external influences by a glass shade and a metal cover, which is attached to the frame of the product. At first glance, it may seem that preparing the lamp for use is not so simple, but in fact there is nothing difficult about it.

Rules for installing the mesh

Installing a mesh on a gas lamp is quite simple; all you need to do is follow the basic rules. Sequence of actions when installing the mesh:

  1. Installing the lamp on the cylinder.
  2. Removing the cover from the lamp and removing the grids.
  3. Removing the lampshade.
  4. Putting the straightened mesh on the rod of the gas lamp.
  5. Opening the valve that regulates the gas supply.
  6. Firing the installed mesh.
  7. Cooling down of the lamp.
  8. Installation of a glass shade.
  9. Installing the top cover.

Installing a mesh has a number of its own features. The mesh must first be straightened and put on until it stops. The lower mesh must be pulled all the way down, and the upper mesh must be pulled up. In some modifications of lamps, the mesh must be tied with a knot in the area of the lower stop. For this type of tying, specially designed threads are used, which ensure reliable fastening. In addition, attention must be paid to the firing process. When burning the mesh, you cannot turn down the gas until the mesh is completely burned and smoke stops coming from it. By this point, the mesh should be firmly attached to the rod.

How to use the lamp correctly?

In order for a gas lamp to serve you as long as possible and not let you down at the most crucial moment, you must:

  • Transport the lamp only in a special case.
  • Light the lamp exclusively using piezo ignition, matches or a lighter.
  • If the mesh is damaged, it should be replaced.

With careful and correct use lamp for about 10 hours a week, one grid should be enough for 6 months of lamp operation.
