What can you make snow from at home? Imitation of snow and ice on products - step-by-step master class Artificial snow made from salt

New Year's crafts and decorations often require artificial snow, in the role of which cotton wool can serve in some cases, but to make the snow look even more natural and beautiful, you can buy artificial snow in bags, but it may not always be available everywhere, so we will make artificial snow at home with our own hands from available components that are sure to you have, for this purpose we present several ways of making artificial snow.

Shiny snow.

To do this, you need to mix two boxes of cornstarch (or corn flour), glitter and shaving foam. These components will make artificial snow fluffy, cold and soft.

Silky snow.

Take a couple of white bars of soap and freeze them in the freezer (leave them there for about a day). Then take out the soap and rub it on a fine grater, you should get fluffy snow, add glitter and mint extract to it. At the same time, just like with real snow, you can make any figure from it, for example, a snowman.

Snow made from shaving foam.

To create such snow, you will need 1 can of white shaving foam, squeeze all the foam into a bowl, gradually adding soda at this time (you will need about 1.5 packs of baking soda). Stir, and you will get a nice mass of snow; with the help of such snow you can also make snowballs and figures.

Snow made of foamed polyethylene.

Foamed polyethylene is often used as packaging material for household and other appliances, as well as shoe inserts. We take a fine grater and rub it as much as needed, the process is quite complicated and dirty, in the end the whole room can be covered in such snow J. But the snow will turn out fluffy and cute literally out of nothing.

Snow from a baby's diaper.

This is a fairly popular method on the Internet now. To do this, cut the baby diaper and take out the sodium polyacrylate, then break it into small pieces. Then put this mass in a container and gradually fill it with water until the mass resembles snow, the main thing is not to overdo it with water, as this will make the snow wet. Then put it in the refrigerator (but not in the freezer) for a while.

Frost from salt.

In addition to snow, you can also make frost, for example, to decorate branches. To do this, take a little water into the pan and put it on low heat, then begin to gradually add salt (preferably coarse-grained) until it stops dissolving. Place sprigs of pine, spruce or other plant into a pan in a hot salt solution and leave for a while. The formation of salts on a branch occurs better in warm water. We take out the plants, let the water drain and leave to dry for 4-5 hours. That's it, the frost will look like real frost.

Snow made from PVA glue and starch.

This artificial snow is suitable if you need to decorate some surface with a voluminous white mass. To do this, take two tablespoons of PVA glue, also two tablespoons of starch and 2 tablespoons of silver paint. Mix everything together thoroughly and get our artificial snow.

New Year is a time of miracles and fairy tales. And what could better convey the desired atmosphere than the snow that lies on the windows, tree branches, festive table and doesn't melt? You can do this at home; we’ll tell you about popular methods.

Do-it-yourself artificial snow has different purposes, which depend on the materials chosen. Some options are suitable for decorating the floor under the Christmas tree, others are suitable for painting windows, bottles, and dishes. Knowing the properties of artificial snow, you can find the most unexpected uses for it.

Making artificial snow and frost from toothpaste

This option is perfect for applying to glass - mirrors, windows, crystal. Can also be used to decorate fir branches. This type of frost is easy to make, but has a small drawback: it is impossible to achieve precise spraying of the selected area; it can “smudge” adjacent surfaces.

Buy the cheapest one toothpaste without multi-colored components. Place the contents of half the tube in a container convenient for mixing and gradually pour clean water. You want to achieve the consistency of sour cream, so add the liquid in small portions so as not to overdo it. The resulting composition is applied to the surface using a toothbrush. Dip it into the prepared mass and spray it with your finger on the brush. To decorate a window in this way, prepare a stencil, fix it to the glass with water and apply the patterns you need.

Using baking soda and shaving foam

This option is suitable for decorating the Christmas tree, its branches, the floor under the tree and any other place at your discretion. This craft is something a child can do – it will give him something to do on a long winter evening. One of the disadvantages is that artificial snow must be removed periodically so as not to litter the apartment.

The instructions are simple. Buy shaving cream. If it smells of frosty freshness, even better. Your snow will be just like real snow. Squeeze the contents of the bottle into any convenient container. Gradually add baking soda. The trick of this method is that the structure of artificial snow depends on the amount of soda. The more soda, the more free-flowing the material becomes. Therefore, the amount of filler depends on the final goal: creating snowdrifts or building a snowman.

If you plan to keep your children busy with crafts, use food starch. This way the baby's skin will not be harmed. This snow can also be colored in different colors using food coloring. Place a music box on the shelf, spread snow around it - the delight of your guests will know no bounds!

Artificial snow made from salt

This method is good for decorating Christmas tree or pine branches. You won't be able to create a snow texture, but the frost effect will be believable.

Pour 5 liters of water into an enamel bowl without chipping. Add two packs of salt. Extra or different doesn’t matter. Boil and keep on fire until the salt is completely dissolved. Let the water cool slightly and immerse the branches in it for 5-6 hours. Then remove and dry for half an hour.

You will achieve a frost effect. A few Christmas decorations as finishing touches will give the composition a natural, fairy-tale look. Such spruce branches delight children and adults and create a New Year's mood.

Imitation of snow using foam plastic

The method is suitable for those who like to spend time cuddling with a vacuum cleaner. “Snowflakes” scatter around the apartment even from a small draft, and collecting them is not so easy. To make such artificial snow, take foam plastic. Better is the one used for packaging small items. household appliances(it has less grain). Use a fork to scrape out the granules and place them in a bag for later storage.

You can use artificial snow obtained in this way as a decoration for the New Year's tree.

Making artificial snow from diapers

Yes, you didn’t think so, but we didn’t make a typo. You can also make artificial snow from baby diapers. The granules that are inside the diapers perfectly absorb moisture, while acquiring a loose structure.

To make artificial snow for decoration, carefully remove the filler. In the new diapers it looks like cotton wool.

Chop the material with scissors and place the resulting loose mass in a container. Pour clean water in a thin stream while stirring the contents of the container. It is best to do this with your hands, stirring and kneading the mass, as if you were kneading dough.

Artificial snow obtained in this way is difficult to distinguish from real snow even at close range. You can make snowdrifts under the tree, scatter snow over spruce branches, windowsills, and furniture. It does not melt, does not lose moisture and does not stain surfaces.

In recent years, snow has not always pleased us with its abundance and consistency in winter. Whether this is due to global warming or other causes of climate change, in any case, we always, especially during the winter holidays, so want to enjoy the sight of this white fluffy miracle.

Artificial snow created right at your home can help with this desire. Although it is relevant even with snowdrifts outside the window, with its help an atmosphere of celebration and magic will be in the house if you decorate various crafts and a Christmas tree with it. In addition, such an activity with your child will be a fun alternative to other games.

How to make artificial snow at home?

Of course, you can buy ready-made artificial snow, but if this option seems unsuitable to you, you can always replace it with something. There are many options on how to make artificial snow. At the same time, it will be fluffy, soft, crispy, just like the real thing. And in addition – very fragrant. So it will definitely appeal not only to children, but also to adults.

The first recipe for artificial snow

We will need:

  • 2 boxes of corn flour (starch);
  • shaving cream;
  • glitter (mica);
  • mint extract.

This snow will turn out shiny, cold, fluffy and incredibly soft, like clouds. First, mix shaving cream and starch in a container. This process will take some time, but it will be incredibly fun. Your kids will definitely love the feeling of “snow” on their hands as they mix.

Finally, add a few drops of mint extract to the mixture. In principle, you don’t need to add this ingredient, it will just add another entertaining element to the process of exploration and play, and the snowball will smell simply amazing. For beauty and shine, add a little mica or glitter. From the resulting snow you can make snowballs or make any figures, for example, a funny snowman.

The second recipe for artificial snow at home

For this silky feeling and appearance of snow we will need:

  • several bars of frozen soap;
  • grater;
  • glitter;
  • peppermint extract.

First, put the soap in the freezer overnight. In the morning, we first take out one piece and grate it, then the next one, and so on until we have grated all the prepared cubes.

The result will be a very fluffy snowball, to which you can add mint extract and glitter if desired. This kind of snow molds perfectly, so you and your child can make any figure.

How to make artificial snow - recipe three

For this option you will need the following ingredients:

  • a can of shaving foam;
  • 1.5 packs of soda;
  • sparkles.

Squeeze the entire can of foam into the container, gradually add baking soda and mix. The result is a mass very similar to real snow, from which it is pleasant to sculpt. For beauty, add glitter. This snow feels very soft, cool, smells of frost and freshness.

INTRODUCTION

I love sports very much and have been swimming since I was 3 years old. I also like this sport because you can train in both winter and summer. I wondered, how do other athletes, such as skiers, train? After all, they constantly need snow for training! What to do in the summer when there is no snow outside?

This is how the topic arose my work: “How can you make snow? »

Target my research:

Experimentally make artificial snow at home

Hypothesis : Is it possible to make artificial snow at home using chemicals and natural processes.

During the study we determined tasks:

Consider the creation of artificial snow in industry;

Analyze how snow is produced in nature;

Conduct experiments on making artificial snow at home using chemical and natural methods.

THEORETICAL PART

Snow is one of the indispensable attributes of winter. Despite the fact that low winter temperatures are possible even in the absence of snow, one of the main conditions of climatic winter is the presence of stable (permanent) snow cover, which lies throughout the winter continuously or with short breaks. However, in some particularly warm regions of the planet (for example, on the Arabian Peninsula), such a weather phenomenon as snow is absent or occurs only once every few decades. In Russia, permanent snow cover is established in most of the country. The timing of its installation varies from year to year and from the timing of the onset of climatic winter. It often happens that there are snowless winters, thereby creating problems for amateurs winter species sports In such cases, artificial snow comes to the rescue, which covers the slopes of the ski slopes.

The production of “artificial” snow has been around for over 50 years. The first experimental installations began to be created in the 1950-60s. in countries where skiing was very popular.

The first method used to make snow on ski slopes is to use an ice machine that produces flake or granular ice, which is subsequently crushed to a state similar to real snow.

  • The second method used to make snow on ski slopes and slopes is the use of snow cannons, which spray liquid under pressure at negative ambient temperatures, which in turn freezes, turning into snow.
  • Snow cannon - a device for producing artificial snow. During operation, the “gun” finely sprays water, which then freezes into snow. Frozen drops of water are obtained by spraying water with special nozzles into a free air space that has negative temperature(from −1.5 degrees Celsius). Acquired
  • e The design of a snow cannon implements all the natural “technology” for creating such a miracle as snowflakes, formed during a long journey from heavenly heights to the ground. First of all, with the help of nozzles, tiny droplets of water are sprayed into a powerful air flow created by a special fan. Then, the resulting “artificial cloud” flies through special device in a snow cannon, where the water-air mixture is injected, which is the basis for the creation of primary snowflakes. On the resulting primary snowflakes, which are scientifically called condensation centers, cooled water molecules from the “artificial cloud” “stick” in a certain order, which give the snowflakes a hexagonal shape. The resulting stream of such a mixture is ejected through the nozzle of a snow cannon, continuing the further formation of snowflakes, and at a distance of tens of meters falls to the ground in the form of real snow.

Both of these methods are quite expensive, both in terms of capital costs (the installation of several refrigeration units is required to maintain a low temperature of the air and the slope itself) and in terms of energy consumption (these refrigeration units consume more electrical power).

PRACTICAL PART

I'll try to make artificial snow at home. It turns out that making this kind of snow is quite easy. The snow will look like real snow and will even be cool to the touch.

To make artificial snow I will need:

1. Sodium polyacrylate.
(It can be found in disposable diapers.)

2. A little water
Regular from the tap.

3. Tara
We will mix everything in it.

Let's start making snow.

Pour sodium polyacrylate into a container and add a little water.

Mix.
If the sodium looks dry, add a little more water until it looks like snow. The main thing is not to overdo it with water, otherwise it will not be white as we need.

If we want to make our artificial snow cold, we put it in the refrigerator.
The main thing is that the temperature is not below zero, otherwise our snow will turn into ice.

Let me summarize:

“instant snow” - and this is actually true. You simply fill it with water and within a few seconds you get artificial snow that is almost indistinguishable from the real thing! It won't melt or melt, you can make it any color you want!

It is based on a special synthetic polymer with super-absorbent properties. Each grain of powder instantly absorbs water and expands to 100 times its original size. And you get realistic, fluffy artificial snow without all the hassle.
After a few days, the artificial snow obtained in this way will begin to dry out little by little and will eventually return to its original shape. The time it takes for moisture to evaporate depends very much on the humidity of the room in which it is located, or environment. In dry climates it evaporates faster than in high level humidity. You can keep this snow fresh by simply sprinkling it with water once every one or two days.
When the moisture has completely evaporated from the snow, you can collect it and use it again as many times as you like. Simply assemble it and pack it in a dry bag or box. Just be sure that the water has completely evaporated from the powder.

Snow is easy to clean. You can sweep or vacuum snow from any surface. Do not wash snow down the sink; this will slow down the sewer system. The snow is quite slippery, so be careful when stepping on it. If you need to quickly remove snow, table salt will easily remove all the moisture from it in a few hours.

To create amazing colored snow simply add a few drops of food coloring to the water before mixing the snow for a few seconds. Within a few seconds the snow will be colored!

THEORETICAL PART

I got artificial snow chemically, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted, so I continued my research.

From the lessons of the world around me, I learned that snow is formed from water. It is known that in nature water can be in three different states, such as: gaseous, liquid or solid.

Clouds, snow and rain represent various states water.

A cloud is made up of many water droplets or ice crystals, rain is just liquid water, and a snowflake is a collection of tiny ice crystals.Snow forms when microscopic water droplets in clouds are attracted to dust particles and freeze. The ice crystals that appear, initially not exceeding 0.1 mm in diameter, fall down and grow as a result of condensation of moisture from the air on them. This produces six-pointed crystalline forms. Due to the structure of water molecules, angles of only 60° and 120° are possible between the rays of the crystal. The main water crystal has the shape of a regular hexagon in the plane. New crystals are then deposited on the vertices of such a hexagon, and new ones are deposited on them, and this is how various shapes of snowflake stars are obtained.

At high temperature The crystals repeatedly move vertically in the atmosphere, partially melting and crystallizing again. Because of this, the regularity of the crystals is disrupted and mixed forms are formed. Crystallization of all six rays occurs at the same time, under almost identical conditions, and therefore the shape features of the rays of a snowflake are identical.

Water in a gaseous state is called water vapor. When talking about the amount of humidity in the air, they usually mean the amount of water vapor. If the air is described as "moist", it means that the air contains a large number of water vapor.

Ice is the solid phase of water. A thick layer of ice has a bluish color, which is due to the way it refracts light. The compressibility of ice is very low. Ice at normal pressure exists only at temperatures of 0°C or below and is less dense than cold water.

As the ambient temperature increases, it is possible to transfer water first from a solid state to a liquid state and, with further heating, to a gaseous state (steam).

By lowering the temperature of a substance in a gaseous state, it can be converted first into a liquid and then into a solid state.

During these transformations of matter, heat is released.

The release of heat is accompanied by a decrease in the internal energy of the substance.

Changes in states of aggregation and the water cycle in nature.

Solar heat evaporates moisture from the earth's surface, the vapor reaches high atmospheric layers. As you move upward, the temperature drops, vapors condense and clouds form. Inside the clouds, drops or snowflakes and hailstones form. Atmospheric precipitation falls to the ground in the form of rain or snow. Depending on the time of year, water on the ground can turn into ice, or vice versa, snow melts. This completes the cycle.

PRACTICAL PART

I relied on these properties of water in my next experiment. Preparing for this action takes a few minutes! You need to boil a kettle of water and go outside in the bitter cold. Throw the water out of the kettle and you won't see a single drop of water. Snow is formed instantly from small drops of water using low temperatures! I offer a video recording of this experience.

CONCLUSION

So, after doing some research, I came to the following conclusion:

It is possible to make artificial snow at home either chemically (using chemical substance sodium polyacryate), and in a natural way (based on 3 states of water and low temperature). Snow like this:

Artificial snow made of sodium polyacrylate

Snow from boiling water

will not melt or melt, it can be made even in summer

absolutely safe for health

“instant snow” - made within a few seconds

production does not require costs

can be used again after drying thoroughly

done in seconds

Snow is easy to clean with a vacuum cleaner

you can make it in any color

The goal I set at the beginning of the research was achieved, the problems were solved.For those who are interested in my topic, I have developed a guide that contains a variety of ways to make snow at home.

I didn't even suspect that baking soda, salt, shaving foam, PVA glue and many other available substances can turn my apartment into a real kingdom of snow! I don’t know about you, but I always wait for him at the end of November, and if he doesn’t appear by mid-December, I look out the window with particular longing and don’t experience a special “taste” of the approaching holidays. This is exactly the situation that happened this year, but I decided not to give up and create a miracle at home by making snow from soda.

Any of us wants miracles and a fairy tale, regardless of age. That is why, with the onset of the winter period, which pampers us with numerous bright holidays, everyone tries to “saturate” the atmosphere with more vivid emotions. Artificial snowfall can “strew” your Christmas tree with white splendor. In a matter of seconds, he will “sprinkle” window sills, Christmas tree decorations, candles, and can be “present” on the holiday table in the form of a snowman. Try to make a snow fairy tale with your own hands, especially if you have children, and your delight will know no bounds.

On the Internet I found many interesting ideas creating snow from soda and other materials, but I chose the simplest ones for myself. If you don't want to spend cash to purchase store-bought compounds that imitate snow and frost, then my collection will interest you. By the way, the resulting fluffy, cold “white happiness” is practically no different from the artificial winter “paraphernalia” purchased in the store.

Artificial snow, created from soda and PVA glue, will help decorate various surfaces voluminous snowdrifts. To get this mass, you will need:

  • soda (you can use starch) – 4 tbsp. spoons;
  • PVA glue - 4 tbsp. spoons;
  • silver paint - 4 tbsp.

Mix all components thoroughly until a thick consistency is obtained, then apply to the desired surface. Once your “drifts” dry out, you will not be able to distinguish them from real snow mounds.

In the article "" we provide interesting ways use of these ingredients.

Artificial snow made from soda and shaving foam

It's a pleasure to create artificial snow from soda and shaving foam. You will need the following quantities of the following components:

  • sodium bicarbonate - 1.5 packs;
  • foam - 1 cylinder.

Squeeze the foam into a deep container and at the same time add white powder. It is very important to immediately mix the components, working with short pauses: add soda to the foam, mix, add again, mix. After completing the mixing process, the mixture should be placed in the refrigerator and kept there for 5 minutes. After this period, take out the composition and, if desired, add glitter. Artificial snow made from soda is ready.

The main feature of this composition is that it will have a trail of frosty freshness if foam with the appropriate aroma is chosen.

Snow made from soda and salt

If you want to “wrap” the branches with enchanting frost, then this is not difficult at all. All you need is:

  • water in the amount of 5 liters;
  • table salt 1.5 packs;
  • baking soda - 1 package.

Snow from soda and salt is created as follows:

  • Take an enamel container and pour water into it;
  • Add dry ingredients to the liquid and put on fire;
  • Heat the solution, stirring the ingredients regularly;
  • Once the salt and baking soda are completely dissolved, remove the pan from the heat;
  • Let the mixture cool slightly, then place the pine/spruce branches in the prepared solution and leave them for 4 to 6 hours. During this period, an attractive snow crust forms on the surface of the needles;
  • After the expiration date, remove the branches from the solution and let them dry (30-40 minutes is enough).

Snow made from glycerin

To make a fluffy miracle that you can admire endlessly, use glycerin. Try with your own hands together with the children to create a popular “ snowball" To make this magnificence, prepare the following components of a fairy toy:

  • paraffin candle;
  • glycerol;
  • water;
  • glitter (if desired).

Snow flakes will form when you grate the candle on a fine grater. Next, take an ordinary jar with a lid, pour water and glycerin into it, mix everything and add the created snow flakes and a little glitter. The container is hermetically sealed. If you shake it, you can admire the snow gently falling to the bottom of the jar.

It’s very easy to give yourself and your loved ones a fabulous and festive mood. Try using these simple methods, and a charming artificial snowball, branches wrapped in frost, toys and other holiday attributes will delight you with their splendor for a long period.
