If the engine produces 2400 rpm, then in one second the tabletop will move 40 times (2400/60=40)! This is quite enough for an industrial concrete unit where finishing materials are produced. But for household needs, and even with a large volume of production, it is best to use motors whose frequency does not exceed 1200-1500 rpm, and there are good reasons for this. If at a frequency of 2400 rpm the tabletop moves 40 times per second, then at a frequency of 1500 rpm it will drop to 25 (1500/60 = 25). This parameter will almost halve the load on the frame and factors such as metal fatigue will not be as active.

As you can see, making paving slabs for your dacha yourself is a completely feasible task if you spend time and effort studying the issue and assembling the necessary device. Although it should be noted that with the help of such a vibrating table it is possible to organize, for example, a small production of polymer-sand paving slabs.

Currently, it has become very popular to make concrete products with your own hands: window sills, steps for stairs, paving slabs, countertops and much more. Ultimately, the quality of construction products directly depends on how ideal the components of the solution are. We suggest you make a device - a vibrating sieve with your own hands, with which you can quickly sift cement, sand, gravel and other bulk materials.

What does a vibrating sieve consist of?

The proposed design is quite easy to repeat, and it does not require a lot of time and money. Components of a homemade vibrating sieve:

  • the base (frame) to which all other structural elements will be attached;
  • engine (in our case, a power saw or electric drill);
  • external box (box) with rollers;
  • internal folding box (box) with a bottom made of metal mesh;
  • “rails” for moving boxes;
  • a guide chute for collecting sifted material;
  • external unit for adjusting the speed of movement of the electric saw (if necessary).

For manufacturing you will need the following materials:

  • wooden blocks (60 x 60 or 60 x 70 mm);
  • boards or plywood (thickness 18-22 mm);
  • 4 furniture casters;
  • 6 rubber shock absorbers;
  • piano loop;
  • metal corners and plates (for connecting wooden parts and increasing strength);
  • hardware: screws, bolts, nuts and washers.

Manufacturing procedure

Drawings for making a vibrating sieve yourself are easy to do yourself. For clarity, we present our schematic plan of the future product.

Our vibrating sieve has the following dimensions:

  • general dimensions of the base (frame): length – 1350 mm, width – 560 mm, height – 850 mm;
  • outer box dimensions: length – 610 mm, width – 455 mm, depth – 120 mm;
  • The dimensions of the folding box (internal) are selected in such a way that it can be tipped over and freed from screenings without much effort and friction against the walls of the outer box.

First, we make a frame of the required size from bars and boards. We fasten the wooden parts using metal corners, plates and self-tapping screws. Then, on the inside of the base, we attach guide bars - “rails” (we use 6 metal angles), along which the boxes will move (to increase the anti-vibration qualities, we install rubber shock absorber supports between the guides and the corners). We fasten the guides together with transverse bars, similar to the principle of sleepers between railway rails. We make a platform at the top of the frame and attach the electric saw to it.

Then we make a structure that consists of two boxes inserted into each other and fastened together with a piano loop: one without a bottom (external), and the second with a fixed metal mesh instead of a bottom (internal). The size of the mesh cells is selected based on the size of the fraction of bulk material that we want to obtain in the end. We attach four casters to the “bottomless” drawer from below (you can buy them at a furniture accessories store). We attach the hacksaw blade to the outer drawer using a spring bracket and bolts (10 mm). The forward motion from the blade is transmitted to the boxes, which move back and forth along two guides. As it moves, the mesh vibrates and the bulk material poured on top is sifted.

A chute made of plywood, through which the sifted material falls into the collection container, is rigidly attached to the base (it can also be made of sheet iron or roofing tin).

The power consumption of a homemade vibrating sieve depends on the model of the electric saw used. The greater the power of the electric saw, the larger the dimensions of a homemade vibrating sieve can be. And this in turn will increase the productivity of the entire installation.

External speed control unit

Since the electric hacksaw blade moves too quickly, we install a separate speed control unit (with a built-in switch and automatic fuse), which will help you choose the optimal mode of forward movement of the vibrating screen and adapt its operation for different bulk materials. In this case, the power saw switch is locked in the “on” position. You can dispense with a separate adjustment unit if you use a fairly “low-speed” electric saw as an electric motor.

It is better to cover the electric saw itself with a protective cover to prevent the ingress of cement, sand or other dust (easy to make from a plastic bottle of a suitable size). With fairly simple changes in the design of the frame, you can use an electric drill (preferably with a built-in rotation regulator) as the main engine, installing a pin with a reciprocating eccentric attached to it instead of a drill.

Using our recommendations, you can easily make a device for sifting building materials. A hand-made vibrating sieve will allow you to sort bulk materials such as sand, cement, gravel, expanded clay, chalk, lime and much more into fractions.

To produce various concrete products (blocks, paving slabs, paving stones), in addition to molds, a special vibrating table is required, with the help of which the mixture is compacted, air bubbles are removed, and the structure of the material is improved. Massive industrial equipment is installed in factories. For independent production of concrete products, it is quite possible to make a vibrating table with your own hands.

Operating principle of the vibrating table

A vibrating table is a technical device consisting of:

  • Support stand and frame.
  • The work surface is a steel table top, which is attached to the base using pins or a weld through metal springs.
  • Electromechanical vibration motor.
  • Starting devices.

A vibration table on springs operates according to the following scheme: the base is fixed on the floor, a form filled with concrete mixture is placed on the tabletop, and the vibration motor is started for a certain time. After stopping, the container is removed. The work of a self-made vibrating table is based on the same principle.

Industrial vibrating tables differ in:

1. Dimensions of the working surface. The larger its dimensions, the more complex products can be produced.

2. Power. The performance of the installation depends on this parameter. As a rule, the accompanying documentation indicates the approximate service weight. Thus, a 3,000 W design is able to work with forms filled with concrete mixture with a total weight of up to 300 kg. This is about 4 square meters of paving slabs 30 x 30 cm in one go.

3. Amplitudes. Almost all units are equipped with a vibration frequency control function, which is very convenient when switching from one type of product to another.

In addition to paving stones for paving roads, vibrating tables are used for the production of artificial stone, fence panels, blocks, decorative figured products (statues, bas-reliefs), etc. The price of industrial devices starts from 30,000 rubles. Used units with a good service life are 30-60% cheaper.

There are two main subtypes of vibrating tables:

  • Molding, intended for the production of a concrete element.
  • Unmolding, necessary for removing the finished tile. This design is equipped with special frames that help remove products from the mold. A nozzle with holes that follow the contours of the product being removed is placed on the work table. Due to vibration, it is easily separated from the container and falls into the operator’s hands or onto the conveyor belt.

Self-made paving slabs are usually easy to remove, so only a forming vibrating table is required.

Assembling the table yourself

The design is quite simple, but the difficulty lies in selecting the optimal vibration amplitude. It is important to achieve not only ideal speed, but also uniformity of movement, since otherwise the concrete mixture will not be compacted, but rather, oversaturated with air. This is the so-called boiling process.

To make a homemade vibration table at home, you will need the following materials and tools:

1. Metal sheet with a thickness of 6 mm and above for a worktop.

2. Springs and “cups” under them are made of steel.

3. Steel angle and/or pipes for the frame, supports, as well as plates for attaching the frame to the base using anchors.

4. Electric motor. It can be purchased separately or made independently. To make a small volume of paving slabs with your own hands, it is enough to buy a single-phase vibration motor with a power of no more than 700 W.

5. Welding machine.

6. Electric drill.

7. Grinder with metal discs.

8. Hardware for the engine and fastening the vibrating table to the floor. The kit must include lock nuts, cotter pins and other fasteners, since any threaded connections quickly loosen under the influence of vibration.

To adjust the speed of movement, you can purchase and install an electronic AC potentiometer together with the vibration motor. The sophisticated mechanism of the vibrating table will allow you to deal with different types of mixtures.

Before you start work, you need to make a drawing of the vibrating table, mark the fixing points of the electric motor on it, determine the dimensions of the installation and components. Thus, the optimal height for the structure is considered to be 80 cm. The width and length are calculated based on the size of the forms. An approximate diagram of a vibrating table for paving slabs is presented below.


Having prepared everything you need, you can start making a vibrating table:

1. Installation of the base.

Four equal sections of an angle, pipe or steel profile are welded into a frame, to which the legs with anchoring plates attached to them must be welded. If this is not done, then the vibrating table will simply “walk” during operation. It is advisable to enhance the stability of the structure with an additional axis made of metal tubes (along the perimeter or crosswise). “Glass” should be welded to the frame on the reverse side - sections of pipes up to 7 cm high, the diameter of which is 2-3 mm larger than the cross-section of the spring. Their position must be clearly adjusted, without distortions or displacements, since the efficiency of the installation depends on this. If there are no “cups”, then the springs are welded to the frame.

2. Making a vibrating table top.

When the monolithic steel sheet is thin, it is strengthened by welding the transverse corners. Sections of channel bars with holes are attached to the main working surface by welding, onto which the vibration electric motor will then be attached. Additionally, along the perimeter of the tabletop, edges made of steel angles with dimensions of at least 50x50 mm are installed.

3. Assembling the vibrating table.

The engine is fixed to the channel frame, then the support stand and the table itself are connected - in the area where the spring blocks fit, you need to make a weld. The finished vibrating table is fixed with anchor grips and tested for performance. If necessary, the vibration amplitude is corrected (using an eccentric mounted on the shaft of an industrial vibration motor), spring stiffness and stability in general.

Vibrating tables made at home are not characterized by high productivity and safety margins. However, this is quite enough to meet your own needs for a summer house or home. And the cost of such a design is 5-12 times cheaper than an industrial installation.
