A device for cutting glass bottles with your own hands. Bottle glass cutter. How to cut a glass bottle. How to cut a glass bottle straight? glass cutter attachment

In the house, as is customary "For good luck", a lot of dishes are beaten, which are often used. This is especially true for glasses. Their loss can be easily compensated if you make a device for cutting empty bottles with your own hands, which will allow you to make glasses of the right size yourself.

To create bottle cutters for glass making, you will need:

  • Cutting boards section 100 x 25 mm;
  • glass cutter;
  • liquid polyurethane plastic, which has increased strength, wear resistance, high moisture resistance and resistance to weak solvents;
  • bolts ¼” x 2.5”;
  • wing nuts to bolts;
  • epoxy resin;
  • glue for wood;
  • screws;
  • rubber feet.

Step 1: Preparing fixture parts

From scraps of a board with a section of 100 x 25 mm, cut out two pieces of 30 cm, one piece of 7.5 cm and one 7.5 x 3 cm. Sand the prepared parts. Separate the cutting head from the glass cutter and clean it with a file.

Step 2: Assembly of the slider

Apply wood glue to the long end of the shortest section, glue it to a 7.5 cm long section and tighten it with screws. After the glue has dried, in the short part of the slider, drill two holes with a diameter of 6 mm with centers shifted relative to the ends by 2.5 and 1.5 cm. Screw two bolts into them.

Step 3: Assembly of the bed

Lubricate one end of a large part with wood glue, glue the same second part vertically to it and tighten it with screws. After the glue has dried, using the holes of the slider as a template, drill two holes with a diameter of 6 mm at its edge in the vertical part of the frame and, shifting by 20 cm, the second pair of holes. Connect the resulting holes with pencil lines, along which cut grooves with a jigsaw to move the slider bolts. Sand the cut grooves with sandpaper.

Step 4: Fixture Assembly

Lubricate the bolt holes in the slider with epoxy and insert the bolts into them. Lock the slider with wing nuts approximately 2 ⁄3 of the slot length. Place the device vertically, and place a bottle on the slider step to determine the place where the glass cutter is attached. Make sure that in this position, when the bottle is pressed against the frame, the glass cutter cuts the bottle. Fasten the glass cutter with screws at the identified location of its installation on the end of the frame. Remember that the location of its installation depends on the diameter of the bottles used. So assembly is complete!

Step 5: Fixture Painting

After drying epoxy resin unscrew the slider and start painting the slider and the bed of your device with liquid polyurethane. After the polyurethane has dried, for greater stability, screw the rubber feet to the bottom of the bed.

Step 6: Cutting the bottle

Decide on the height of your new glass and fix the slider in the appropriate place. Press the bottle against the bed with the palm of your hand and rotate the bottle one full turn for a continuous cut. Boil water and pour boiling water over the incision. The neck of the bottle will bounce off and the only thing left to do is to clean the sharp edges of the glass with abrasives.

Step 7: Bottle Cup Samples

If you are not satisfied with decorating glasses with one label, then you can wash it off and make frosted patterns on it. The result is an original gift.

Concluding the post, I want to remind you that all work with glass requires accuracy and attention.

There are many uses for empty glass bottles to create extraordinary things. They are often used to make vases, glasses, various lamps and candlesticks. Naturally, in most homemade products, these glass bottles are processed, namely, they are cut. Cutting the bottle evenly without cracks, chips and additional scratches is not the easiest thing. It is to facilitate this task that this machine for cutting glass bottles was made. It is quite easy to manufacture, and all the materials needed to assemble it are very cheap. Thanks to its design, cutting bottles will be much easier than most other methods.

Materials that were used to create a glass bottle cutting machine:
-wooden plank
- plastic pipe of small diameter
-glass cutter
- self-tapping screws
- metal ruler
- guide from the furniture cabinet
-epoxy resin
- L-bracket
- several neodymium magnets
- piece of felt
Manufacturing description of glass bottle cutting machine:

Step One: Platform.

A wooden board will serve as a platform for the machine. It should be thick and wide enough for ease of use.

Having cut the ring on the bottle, it is necessary to slightly warm it over the candle, then hold it with ice and the bottle should split exactly along the cut line. If this does not work immediately, then the procedure should be repeated. This process is clearly demonstrated in the images below.

The AlexGyver channel created a video on how to make a small tool for precise cutting of cans, bottles and other glass containers. Moreover, if you use this machine carefully, then at the output you can get an almost perfect cut.

To begin with, we need a piece of lining about 30 centimeters long and a bar 19 × 19 millimeters in cross section. Using a hacksaw, you need to cut out a part about 40, 45 millimeters long from it. The resulting piece of wood is able to fit quite tightly into the groove of the lining and move freely. As you may have guessed, you will need a glass cutter, which will be fixed in a 40 × 40 mm beam at a slight angle. And he will be attached to the lining with a metal corner. Position the glass cutter, mark its position on the bar with a marker. Along this line, respectively, at an angle, you will need to drill a bar, therefore, move the drilling point to the front.
The diameter of the glass cutter is approximately 9 and a half mm, and in order to hold it tighter in the hole, I will drill with a 9 mm drill. I decided to disassemble the glass cutter so as not to damage it while driving it into the hole. You need to hammer it to about this depth. I made a small mistake when I hammered the glass cutter into a bar, so it’s not very convenient for me to screw the head back on. Keep this in mind if you do.
Now, with the help of self-tapping screws, fasten the corner to the bar. Cut off the excess. With a ruler, draw a long line in the center of the lining groove. Drill away from the edge big hole. Using a jigsaw, make a long slot in the groove of the lining. Widen the gap to fit the M3 bolt. On the trim of the tin, mark 2 holes at a distance of 25 millimeters. Drill holes and remove the sharp edges of the chips with a drill larger diameter. Mark and drill the same 2 holes in the 19x19 bar.
Next, we need 2 lambs for the M3 bolt, 2 M3 bolts 40 mm long, 2 washers for the M3 bolt, a bar and a piece of a can. Let's assemble the structure.
The result is a movable structure that can be easily fixed with the help of lambs. Now it's time to attach the bar with the glass cutter to the lining.
Next, look at the video from 4 minutes.

How to cut a glass bottle straight? glass cutter attachment

I found a way to cut a glass bottle evenly. Maybe someone will come in handy for the New Year holidays.

The cutting principle itself is simple, we cut, as usual, with a glass cutter, which is available in every home, if not, then you can buy it for mere pennies in a hardware store.
Any glass cutter is suitable, even the cheapest, Chinese.
But it’s impossible to cut it evenly with your hands, because it’s problematic to make a cut on the surface of a round bottle, and even evenly.
To make an even cut, you will have to make a simple device, which even a housewife can do.
We will not crush water in a mortar, but let's move on to a step-by-step analysis of this device.
To make the fixture, we need two boards measuring 150 x 100 mm, 20 mm thick.
We give one plank a bottle-shaped shape, first we mark it, then we cut it out.
We fasten the boards together at a right angle. We do this with PVA glue and screws. First, we lubricate the surfaces of the boards to be joined with glue, then we press the boards against each other, and then we twist them with screws.

The bottle-shaped plank will be vertical and will serve as the basis for attaching the glass cutter.
The rectangular plank is horizontal and the bottle will be placed on it.
You will need two clamps for cutting. With the help of one clamp, we fasten the device to the edge of the table. If we cut the bottle in the workshop, then it is easier to screw the fixture to the workbench with screws, then the clamp will not be needed.
We fasten the glass cutter with the second clamp.
Depending on the place of the cut on the bottle, we also choose the place of fastening on the bottle-shaped plank, we can fasten it both from above and from the side.

IN this option in the picture the glass cutter is fixed on the side. For a more elastic effect of the clamp on the glass cutter, we put an eraser under it (a regular stationery eraser for erasing lines from simple pencil on a piece of paper).
We install the bottle on the fixture, press its surface against the cutting part of the glass cutter, turn the bottle around its axis. The glass cutter cuts the bottle in a circle.
But just like that, a cut bottle cannot be divided into two parts.
First you need to spill the bottle at the place of the cut hot water, then cold. Next, divide the bottle into two parts with your hands.
When the bottle is cut, take sandpaper and grind the sharp edge of the cut so that in the future, when using the halves of the bottle, do not injure your hands.

There are many options for using empty glass bottles to create unusual things. They are often used to make vases, glasses, various lamps and candlesticks. Naturally, most homemade these glass bottles are processed, namely they are cut.

Having cut or taken a ready-made piece of board, you can varnish it so that in the future the instrument has a more presentable appearance.

Step Two: Rollers.

Next, a plastic tube of small diameter was taken, from which two pieces were cut off. Holes were made in these pieces of pipe, each with 2 through at the edges. Through these holes, the tubes will be attached to the platform of the machine and act as a kind of rollers, since the glass bottle will easily slide over the plastic. The top holes of each of the tubes were enlarged so that it was convenient to fasten the tubes to the screws through them.

To avoid unnecessary scratches in the subsequent cutting of bottles, it is necessary to carefully deburr all burrs on the tubes.

Step three: work on the glass cutter.

Then the author began to work on the next component of the machine, namely the cutter.

For the manufacture of the cutter, a standard glass cutter was taken. In the glass cutter, the handle was sawn off as unnecessary, and two holes were made to fix it on a wooden plank.

Step Four: Guide.

Then a guide was taken from an ordinary furniture drawer. In order for it to serve in the design of the future machine, a cutter was made for each of the holes along its edges, so that the heads of the self-tapping screws were securely hidden. After all, when working on glass bottles, every scratch can spoil.

Step Five: Assembly

Then the author proceeded to assemble the received main components for the machine. A glass cutter was screwed to the board, and tubes were also attached. Everything was done exactly as shown in the photos. The distance between the tubes should be chosen so that when the bottle is placed on them, there is enough space left from its surface to the surface of the plank itself, while the bottle should be securely fixed between the tubes when pressed.

The fastening of the glass cutter should be such that when pressing and scrolling the bottle, a thin line remains on it. If too much chips are obtained, or if it only slightly scratches the bottle, then the location of the glass cutter should be changed.

The easiest way is to use a test waste bottle to find the optimal position.

The main thing is not to overdo it with pressure on the bottle, as it may burst.

Step Six: Mounting the rail.

Then a prepared guide is attached between the tubes. To make it convenient to measure the cut of bottles directly on the machine, the author decided to fix a metal ruler on this guide. To do this, the ruler was cut to the length of the guide and glued with epoxy glue. Then a load was laid on it until the glue was completely dry.

Step Seven: Locking Slider.

In order for the bottle not to move out during scrolling, and its cut to be fairly even, the author decided to make a limiting slider.
For these purposes, an L-shaped bracket, several strong neodymium magnets and a piece of felt were used.

Having placed the magnets on one of the parts of the bracket, the author wrapped them in felt and attached them to an iron ruler. Since the bottle should not be subjected to strong pressure, such a slider design will be able to hold it in the desired position.

Step eight: testing the machine.

Now you need to check the resulting bottle cutting machine.

Thanks to the ruler and the magnetic slider, the cutting of the bottle is quite even, although of course a lot depends on the accuracy of the user himself. Therefore, it is worth to start practicing on unnecessary bottles.
