Types of water meters

There are only two types of water meters; understanding them will not be difficult. They differ from each other in the color of the markings and inscriptions on them:

  • Location relative to each other. According to the standard, the cold water meter should be located lower than the hot one. This condition is not mandatory, so during installation the meters can be located in a way that is convenient for the master. This can make it difficult to determine which meter is which.
  • Turning on the water. To accurately determine which meter belongs to cold water, regardless of their location relative to each other, you should open the cold water tap. After opening the tap, one of the meters will begin to rotate, this will be the cold water meter.

Numbers on the meter

Water meters have 8 rotating cells on which numbers are displayed, which constitute the meter readings necessary for the transfer of water.

The last three cells display liters of water used. The first five refer to cubic meters.

After reaching the numbers 999 on the last three cells, they are reset to zero, and the fifth cell is wound up to the number 1. As water is used, reaching the number 9 on the cell leads to the transition of the left sector to +1.

What numbers to consider when transmitting meter readings

When transmitting meter readings to the water utility service, you should record the data in the first five cells. The last three do not need to be written down, but you can round off the fifth digit to account for them.

Example. If the following data is marked on the meter: 00213 621, then the following data can be submitted to the water utility service: 00213 or the following: 00214 in favor of rounding to the nearest liter.

Water consumption accounting

If you are using a new meter, then you do not need to calculate the monthly water consumption; it is displayed in the first five cells and corresponds to cubic meters. If readings are not taken for the first time, then the previous ones should be subtracted from the new meter readings.

Example. If the following data is marked on the meter: 00213 621, and in the last reading period it was: 00208 002, then the consumption can be calculated by simple subtraction: 00214 (taking into account rounding to liters) – 00208 = 6 cubic meters.

When transmitting data about used water, the readings from the cold and hot meter are summed up, and the readings from the hot meter are indicated as water heating in cubic meters.

Example. If the water consumption according to the cold meter is 6 cubic meters. m, and hot 2 cubic meters. m, then the cold water consumption is calculated as follows: 6 cubic meters. m + 2 cu. m = 8 cu. m. Water heating is installed in a volume of 2 cubic meters. m.

Payment for sewerage is carried out for the volume of hot and cold water used together, i.e. will be 8 cubic meters. m.

Another month later we see on the water meter: 00012566. Now it turns out that 12 cubic meters were used. Subtract 12-1=11. This month you pay for 11 cubic meters of water.

Calculation of water consumption by meter

For calculations you will need two things:

  • meter readings;
  • current tariffs for hot and cold water.
  1. After installing the meter, record its initial readings.
  2. Report the data to the management company.
  3. After a month, you take the readings again, determine the difference and report it (we’ll talk about reporting the readings later).
  4. To independently calculate the amount to be paid, use the tariff table.

Important! Tariffs change annually, and they are also set by the city administration. Therefore, in the future, periodically inquire about them by calling the management company.

To determine hot water consumption, multiply the water meter readings by the tariff. This will give you the amount you need to pay for water consumption this month. WITH cold water the procedure is similar.

Remember that in some cities there is a certain the minimum you have to pay monthly. In this case, even if you used an amount of water less than this minimum, for example, 10 liters with a minimum of 1.5 cubic meters, you will pay for the entire 1.5 cubic meters. Payment center employees will calculate the amount and send it to you using a special payment document. This happens once a month; a personal visit to the center is not necessary. Remember that the building maintenance directorate may check from time to time how well the readings you give correspond to the real ones.

Important! If a water meter is installed in a communal apartment, then the amount payable is equally distributed among all registered residents.

If several water meters are installed in the apartment, then provide readings for each of them separately. It is not recommended to interfere with the operation of the meter, slow it down, etc., since if such violations are detected, you will face a fine.

Checking the correctness of the readings

It happens that the counter shows incorrect data. To check this, write down the indicators of the three red numbers. Then take a ten-liter bucket, fill it with water and pour it out. Repeat the procedure three times. Look at the water meter. If the numbers show that more or less than 30 liters have been used, then your water meter needs to be checked.

If you notice that the meter is showing false information, you should check it. The verification will be carried out at your expense. If the meter is under warranty, then the certified company that sold it will pay. During this time, you will pay for water according to your average monthly consumption. After the check is completed, it is carried out or replaced. If you overpaid, a recalculation occurs and the overpayment amount is returned to you.

As Deputy Chairman of the Tariff Committee Irina Bugoslavskaya told Fontanka, the indicator “0.06 Gcal” was derived based on the following data: the temperature of the hot water provided should be 60 - 75 degrees, the temperature of the cold water used to prepare hot water should be 15 degrees in winter, 5 degrees in summer. According to Bugoslavskaya, committee officials made several thousand measurements, taking information from metering devices - the artificially derived figure was confirmed.

In connection with the use of this payment method, a problem arose with risers and heated towel rails connected to the hot water supply system. They heat the air, that is, they consume Gcal. From October to April this thermal energy is added to heating; in the summer this cannot be done. For a year now, a system has been in place in St. Petersburg according to which payments for heat supply can be charged only during the heating season. As a result, unaccounted heat is generated.

Solution

In May 2013, federal officials came up with a way out of the situation of unaccounted for heating with heated towel rails and risers. To achieve this, it was decided to introduce a two-component tariff. Its essence lies in separate payment for cold water and its heating - thermal energy.

There are two types of heating systems. One implies that the hot water pipe comes from the one intended for heating, the other implies that for hot water, water is taken from the cold water supply system and heated.

If hot water is taken from the same pipe as heating, then payment for it will be calculated taking into account the costs associated with chemical treatment, staff salaries, and equipment maintenance. If cold water from the State Unitary Enterprise “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” is used for heating, then the payment for it is taken according to the tariff - now it is a little more than 20 rubles.

The heating tariff is calculated based on how many resources were spent on the production of thermal energy.

Confused housing residents

From January 1, 2014, a two-component tariff was introduced for consumers who do not belong to the “population” group, that is, for organizations and enterprises. In order for citizens to be able to pay according to the new principle, it is necessary to make changes to regulations. Pay by new system provision rules prohibit utilities. Since residents are still paying old scheme, housing organizations serving buildings with non-residential premises have received a new headache.

Charging for hot water supply consists of two parts, or components, each of which is highlighted in a separate line on the receipt - DHW and DHW heating. Calculation example:

Let's assume that hot water consumption in an apartment for a month is 7 m3. Hot water consumption throughout the house is 465 m3. The amount of thermal energy spent on heating hot water according to a common house meter is 33.5 Gcal

7 m 3 * 33.3 rub. + (33.5 Gcal * 7 m 3 / 465 m 3 * 1331.1 rub.) = 233.1 + 671.3 = 904.4 rub.

Of which:

233.1 rub. - payment for actual water consumption (DHW line in the receipt)

671.3 - payment for thermal energy spent on heating water to the required temperature (DHW heating line in the receipt)

In this example, 0.072 gigacalories of thermal energy were spent to heat one cube of hot water.
