DIY wall clock for children. Original DIY wall clock. Alter-scrap, or a new life for the alarm clock

So interesting and modern design You definitely won’t find a watch in a store. Simple design from quite available materials. If your guests see this watch at your place, they will definitely pay attention to it, and they certainly won’t tell you that they saw the same one in a nearby store.
Materials I took for the watch:

  • Wooden board 35 x 35 cm, 18 mm thick (hardware store).
  • A piece of plywood 3 mm thick (hardware store).
  • Nails 13 mm long or self-tapping screws.
  • Clock mechanism (can be taken from a boring clock).
  • Yellow paint.
  • Black marker.
Woodworking tools I used:
  • Hand saw.
  • Screwdriver-drill.
  • Hammer.
  • Pliers.
  • Ruler.
  • Right angle ruler.
  • Bit.
  • Sandpaper.

We are sawing a board.

We take our board and decide on the dimensions of the future watch. We outline and saw off the base with a hacksaw or hand saw. 18 mm board is easy to saw and it is advisable to use a saw with fine teeth so that the edges are smooth and require minimal mechanical processing after sawing.

Making squares

Next, on one of the corners of the base, I drew 10 x 5 cm rectangles. We cut them out in steps. Then I cut these rectangles into 5 x 5 cm squares.
Now you need to sand all the squares, removing burrs and making the surface smooth.

Let's start milling the hole for the clock mechanism.
We take the clock mechanism and apply it to the center of our base. We trace with a pencil. Next we mill the recess. I used a wood router bit mounted in a screwdriver. You can use a chisel and make a hole with it.
While working, we try on the recess for the mechanism. If everything is fine, we drill a hole in the tram for the exit of the shaft on which the arrows will be placed. After all the work has been completed we will process sandpaper base until smooth.

Watch assembly

Before you begin directly assembling the watch, you first need to prepare 18 small jumpers - connectors. Let's take a piece of plywood and use a hacksaw to cut 18 jumpers 0.7 x 4 cm.
We place the base and lay out our squares in an almost chaotic order. It is necessary to arrange the squares so that the plywood jumpers are practically invisible. WITH reverse side, accordingly, we connect everything with jumpers and nails.

Painting a watch

For painting I used spray paint from a can. Hold the can at a distance of 20 cm and spray on the watch on one side. After a little while, and the paint dries very quickly, we turn the clock over and spray paint on the other side. That's it, the base is almost ready.

Drawing numbers

I took the black one permanent marker and just drew the numbers. There is another option - print the numbers on the computer, cut and paste. So you can do that too if you want.

Watch hanger

I screwed in 2 screws so that I had something to hang the clock on. And I tied a string to the screws so that it could be hung on a nail in the wall or a self-tapping screw.

Hello! Remember, as you taught your kids about time, that it can be measured using seconds, minutes, etc.; and that there is a special device for this. Or perhaps you still have to tell your little ones about all this? Then I will suggest one very effective method. Together we need to make a clock with our own hands for children from cardboard. You can devote your working time to telling a story about short seconds, minutes rushing forward, and such huge hours that seem to last forever, especially for kids. Yes and creative work will not remain without a trace, the little ones develop by doing it.

Ideas

What to hide for modern man no matter how big or how small, the wrapper is important. Even the same candy may seem tastier if it is wrapped in a candy wrapper with your favorite movie character, rather than in parchment. Therefore, the learning process should be packaged in a beautiful wrapper: use your favorite Lego men, cars, stickers, prints of super heroes, everything that your child likes, that he is willing to look at for hours, and that he is even willing to sleep with.

Or even make it in the form of a wrist bracelet; I think kids will also appreciate this option.

Regarding the teaching system, choose the one that you think is more understandable to your child and which you can teach “without stuttering.” Some people make watches like real ones without minutes, others hide the minutes under a leaf so they can “peep.” Someone, on the contrary, makes a double dial, where both the hours and minutes are clearly visible, and even the hands move in their own circle, clearly pointing to the number. And someone makes a clock with the task of sticking the corresponding number of minutes on Velcro, and even below you can put in separate numbers what happened (for example, 10:30). Of course, it is more convenient to make such watches with Velcro from felt, although Velcro can also be glued onto cardboard. The main idea!

Or you can improve your regular home clock by sticking minutes in a circle for quick learning.

In a word, what are we still talking about? It's time to get down to business! We have a universal, basic master class coming up that you can take as a basis for your idea.

Step-by-step instructions for making a clock from cardboard

Now we will try together do under the tree. But first, just a few words about the tools we will use to make, and the children’s possible help.

A few important points:

  • We have to cut out blanks from paper, and for this we will need sharp scissors. If you have scissors with rounded edges, then this part of the work can be entrusted to the baby. Otherwise, it’s better, or rather safer, to do it yourself.
  • To fasten the arrows on the structure, we again need a sharp object: either nail scissors with sharp edges, or a nail. Only 3 holes. But safety is more important. If the baby asks, of course, you can entrust the work, but only with your safety net.
  • Decide how much robust construction you plan to do. Perhaps one sheet of cardboard will not be enough. Then use a base. A layer of thick packaging cardboard, or a few additional regular balls, will serve as the base.
  • The last thing is how you will draw, or rather, with what. If you use a compass, then you already have the middle marked, and that’s good. But it is dangerous because of the sharp edge. You can draw it by tracing a plate, cup or bowl around the counter. In this case, we determine the middle using two perpendicular lines. Or, even simpler, bend one of the circles (preferably not the very first one, in order to maintain its attractive appearance) in half twice. The bend point is the middle.

Now we are completely ready! Forward!

A cork round hot stand was chosen as the basis for the watch. But you can get by with corrugated cardboard.

Comfort and coziness in our home sometimes depends even on the most small parts and elements. Even most interior designers agree that the most important attributes for achieving comfort in the home are well-chosen curtains, original lamps, soft and selected in the right shade, blankets, pillows, bath mats and watches.

This article will focus on a master class on how to decorate a clock at home yourself.

Available on the Internet a large number of photos of watches, most of them are made by famous designers, but make original watch At home it’s also not difficult.

There is, of course, one key and difficult point - installing a mechanism on the watch for its operation, but a ready-made mechanism should be bought in a store and installed according to the instructions. But appearance future watches and its other design completely depends on personal preferences and tastes.

There are several modern techniques that help you make your own watches in any style.

Clock style decoupage

This technique of designing and creating a wall clock involves working with a ready-made store template, which already has a blank, the base of the hands and the finished mechanism. You can also purchase ready-made patterns on papers, special paints, glue and other decoupage elements.

The blank for the watch is made in this way: the base is coated with acrylic paint primer several times, and finally sanded. The desired shade and texture are given to the base in the next step.

There is one trick - if you want to make a watch in the old style with a tint that represents scuffs, then the paint must be applied with a sponge.

Decorate Wall Clock DIY is a process of bringing out the imagination and creativity from a person. Special water stickers can be applied to the base. Or you can draw a preliminary sketch yourself and transfer it to the dial.

Afterwards, the finished mechanism and arrows with numbers are attached. After a series of actions, the clock you created with your own hands will come to life and give your home a special, original look.

Quilling style watch

Quilling is an arts and crafts process that involves working with straight strips of colored paper of varying widths. Such strips, as a rule, are twisted and glued to the surface, thereby creating the most varied designs and pictures.

To create a watch using this technique, it is best to take wood as the base of the watch, since quilling elements can be glued to it well.

The color scheme should be in harmony with the interior of the room. After all, a bright clock will look ugly in a room designed in a minimalist style. Therefore, the choice of shade is a key point in this matter.

Most often, multi-colored quilling elements are used to create flowers, insects, trees, animals, berries, and so on.

Plaster clock

Regular plaster tiles will serve well as a base for future watches.

Romantic and reverent natures will definitely find a large number of solutions for creating watches from this material.

Among professionals, such a tile is called a medallion. The mechanism of the future watch is attached to its back. To make the product look more elegant and discreet, you should cover its surface with matte paint in light colors.

And, if you want some highlights, then glossy paint will do.

Note!

This material is most suitable for creating a clock for the bedroom. At the same time, shades are chosen - beige, soft pink, pearl, coffee with milk, purple, and so on.

Clock using wooden sticks

In this situation, your arsenal should include items such as sticks and quality wood, good glue, scissors, and ready-made working hours with flat surface.

You should cut out many small sticks of the same size from wood, and then connect them

If the sticks are applied to the base in two layers, you can achieve a wonderful “explosion” effect, which looks luxurious and original.

Now you know how to make a clock at home. Watch self made Ideal for the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

Note!

My relatives renovated the kitchen. A wall clock is not enough to complete the interior. The old clock is working, but outwardly it doesn’t fit into the updated kitchen at all. It would be a pity to dispose of the watch; there is a dedicatory inscription on it. I'll try to breathe new life into them.

To work with the clock, let's take it apart. Dial, glass (not plastic, as in modern watches) and frame.

I didn’t even try to remove the clock mechanism, because... Upon careful inspection, I did not find any fastening elements. The dial will be accompanied by a careful rotation of the minute hand, this will complicate the work a little.
So let's start with the frame. I decided to cover it with fabric; I had just the right one in stock. color scheme. This is a fairly thick cotton fabric with elastane. When cutting it cuts quite a bit. We place the frame on the fabric and trace it with cutting chalk, making indents along the edges for folds.

Let's cut out our pattern. Place double-sided tape on the outside of the frame to secure the fabric before wrapping.

After making small cuts in the corners and gluing double-sided tape inside the frame, we tighten it, carefully wrapping the edges of the fabric and gluing it onto the tape. I didn’t choose the adhesive tape by chance; the fabric sticks well to it. In this case, the glue would soak through the fabric and complicate the process.

Having finished fitting the frame, I tried it on the watch. It turned out great.

And we could stop there. But the factory decor of the dial tells us that this is not entirely a man-made product; it looks rather boring. In addition, relatives really wanted a wall clock with Roman numerals. So let's move on to the dial. The dial is molded from plastic, the numbers and letters on it are part of a solid structure. Therefore, I decided to putty the surface of the dial, leveling everything to zero. The height of the leg on which the arrows rotate allows us to apply 2-3 mm of putty.

Carefully rotating the hands, I walked over the entire surface of the dial.

The can of putty says that it dries from 3 to 24 hours, I decided to wait as long as possible to be on the safe side. A day later, I discovered microcracks on the surface and once again went through with putty, this time only rubbing these very cracks with a layer of less than 1 mm. The second layer took 5-6 hours to dry.

After complete drying, I lightly rubbed the surface with a small spatula, knocking down any unevenness, and wiped it with a damp sponge, removing small particles. I primed it with two layers of white acrylic paint without water, with each layer drying in between. And finally, I tinted the surface of the dial with the color I wanted. acrylic paint without water, with chaotic strokes. The result is such an interesting texture.

I found Roman numerals on the Internet and, in addition to them, the Eiffel Tower, which matches the style of the kitchen. I printed out the image and, placing the sheet of paper in a plastic file, outlined the drawing with black stained glass paint from the Stained Glass children's set. This paint, when dried, turns into sticky sticker.

A day later, the numbers were drying along with the dial, I transferred these stickers to the dial. I collected the watch and...

...I hope the relatives will be happy.

Comfort in our home depends on many details and little things. Thus, most interior stylists and designers agree that well-chosen curtains, lamps, blankets, pillows, carpets and clocks are integral attributes of comfort. Our master class will be devoted to the latter.

Anyone can make them, and there are hundreds of ways to do this. The most important thing in this matter is to install the clock mechanism (you can purchase it in a specialized store or remove it from old ones that are no longer used). required hours), and the appearance of the product itself is left to your discretion.

In this lesson, we will talk about the most popular techniques that can be useful in designing original watches.

Clock in decoupage style

If you decide to make a watch using a similar technique, then you will need to purchase in advance from a specialized store a ready-made blank template, hands and clock mechanism, patterns for the background on rice paper or a napkin, acrylic paints, glue, varnish and other compositions necessary for decoupage, brushes, sponges.

First, you need to process the workpiece by covering it three times with acrylic paint primer and sanding it. After drying, it needs to be given the desired tone and texture. To give the surface of the watch an aged, shabby look, it is better to apply the paint randomly using a sponge.

Next, you should outline a frame around the perimeter of the workpiece, stepping back a couple of centimeters from the edge, and paint it in a darker tone.

Now you need to paint the workpiece in the color that suits your interior. In our case, the tone chosen was light ocher (ocher mixed with white). Mix the paint and apply with a sponge. Let it dry completely, then sand the workpiece.

The bezel of the watch must be highlighted in color. For example, wood paint would be suitable.

After this, you can apply the selected pattern to the workpiece. First you need to cut it out of rice paper, and if the pattern is on a napkin, then soak it in water. Now we simply apply it to its place on the dial and coat it with glue on top.

In the next step you will have to use all your imagination and artistic skills, because you will need to remove the border between the napkin and the surface of the watch and achieve the integrity of the design with the background. To do this, you will need to select paints of appropriate tones and use a sponge to create smooth transition from pattern to surface. You can also try to continue the pattern in the same style and use a brush to complete its elements along the surface of the clock and along the dark frame. This will certainly add brightness and vibrancy to the image.

After drying, the most interesting step in this process begins - the artificial aging of our watches. For this they use special remedy two-step craquelure. It is applied with a dry brush in two layers, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly.

After its use, characteristic cracks appear on the product, which should be rubbed with copper powder. On final stage the workpiece is varnished.

Once the clock mechanism, numbers and hands find their place, the clock will come to life and will become a wonderful addition to your kitchen, living room interior or a wonderful gift for friends.

Quilling style

Quilling or paper rolling is a decorative and applied art in which one works with strips of paper of different widths, twisting them into pattern elements, which then form a single composition. A flat wooden plywood board or thick cardboard will be suitable as the basis for future watches. In our case, black paper was glued to the surface of the board, and the elements were mainly made of white paper to achieve contrast. You can choose any combination, as well as use any quilling elements.

The color scheme of the product should depend on where it will be used. At a minimum, it should fit into the existing style of the room and not disturb its harmony with its presence, on the contrary, strengthening this criterion. So the choice of color is the most important point in this case.

To work with this technique, you will need strips cut from paper, glue and a hook or knitting needle on which you will wind the paper. All ready-made elements are glued to the surface of the future product. You can mark the divisions, but this is not necessary.

First you need to do the numbers. Suitable for this simple elements quilling in the form of tightly rolled spirals.

After the numbers, proceed to creating the main elements of watch decoration. In this case, flowers consisting of the “drop” element were chosen.

The finished “drops” must be collected into flowers and all the preparations must be transferred to the surface of the watch.

Before adding the clock mechanism, you need to decorate the middle of the clock.

All that remains is to place the finished watch in a frame under glass.

This product option is suitable for children's bedrooms.

From wooden sticks

In this case, you will not need a lot of materials, just wooden sticks, glue, sharp scissors and a working clock with a flat surface. Cut out at least one hundred sticks and glue them like rays of sunshine in several rows, making sure that the length of the sticks is relatively equal. It is advisable to make a second layer of longer sticks. This will create an interesting visual effect - an “explosion” effect.

This design will fit original into the interior of the kitchen and living room.

From tiles for false ceiling

Such tiles, if, of course, they are made of gypsum, will always look beautiful and with special chic. Making our device from this material is an excellent solution for creative and romantic people.

Gypsum ceiling tiles are called medallions among builders. A clock mechanism is attached to its back. A hole is made in the center for the arrows. In order for our product to have a laconic and at the same time refined look, it is appropriate to apply an additional coating to it in the form of matte paint or paint with a glossy effect.

You choose the paint color yourself, but it is worth remembering that the original color of plaster, a material made to look like marble, is beige, white, pearl, white-coffee and white-purple (pale pink).

This element of room decor will perfectly complement the decoration of halls, living rooms, and bedrooms.
