Rating of the best chain saws for home and garden. How to choose the right circular saw How to choose an electric hand saw for wood

A chain saw is an efficient tool for sawing wood, requiring less effort and time than hand saw. Unlike a chainsaw, it does not produce toxic exhaust. Therefore, they are used as professional works oh on wood, and in summer cottages. When choosing a saw, the main quality that is required of it is the ability to provide high performance over a long service life. Portal Mark.guru presents a rating of the best chain saws the highest reliability for 2018.

To choose the right chain saw, it is recommended to evaluate the models according to the following criteria:

  • Power. A more powerful and productive tool can cope with large diameter trunks and withstand high loads.
  • Engine location. In most models, a transverse one is implemented, which is convenient when working in vertical plane. The saw is more overall and inconvenient in conditions of limited space. In the longitudinal position, a better balance is achieved and a more even cut is obtained. In addition, better maneuverability is provided.
  • Locking systems. Ensure the safety of the device. Activate the instantaneous stop of the chain in the event of a rebound, as well as protection against accidental activation.
  • Overheat prevention. On reaching invalid high temperatures a power outage occurs.
  • Soft start function. When starting the engine, the speed is gained gradually, which prolongs the life of the device.
  • Chain tension adjustment. Affects performance and security. The tension can be changed with a screw and a screwdriver, or a nut and a slider are used. The second method is simpler and does not require an additional tool.
  • Grease. A good saw should have a chain lubrication system, which is a special pump that ensures uniform lubrication of the bar during operation.

Conclusion

When choosing an electric saw, it is necessary, first of all, to be guided by the purpose of use. For simple garden work, it is recommended to purchase more compact and lightweight models. For example, rechargeable, which do not depend on the ability to access electrical outlet. But they have a high price and are not suitable for large volumes of work. It is advisable to purchase a special extension cord for powerful productive electric saws. For pruning trees, it is better to choose from models with vertical arrangement motor, as they are distinguished by good maneuverability. With a transverse arrangement, less power loss and high performance are provided.

Take away the saws from mankind and progress will stop. This statement is not a joke. Without a tool capable of cutting wood and metal, concrete and stone, the functioning of industrial enterprises and other areas of commodity production is impossible.

In the household, too, it is not possible to do without saws. Every man has at least one hacksaw, and good master you can find a whole arsenal of "toothy helpers."

We will look at the most common types of saws to get an idea of their working capabilities and application features.

It all started with a simple hacksaw

It is this saw that is the ancestor of the family hand tool designed for wood processing. As soon as the first ingot of iron was smelted, a man had the idea to forge a tool for cultivating the earth from it.

It can be assumed that the ax became the second after the hoe. The third was probably a saw with a handle, known to us today as a hacksaw. Over the centuries that have passed since its invention, she has acquired numerous "brothers and sisters" who perform dozens of different jobs.

The accepted classification divides this type of hand saws into two groups:

  • Hacksaws for wood;
  • Hacksaws for metal.

Depending on the cutting direction, hand saws for wood are divided into three categories:

  • For ripping cutting;
  • For cross cutting;
  • Universal (longitudinal-transverse).

The difference between them is in the shape of the cutting teeth: on a rip saw they are inclined forward, while on a crosscut saw they are straight.

The universal hacksaw tooth is also inclined forward, but has a special sharpening. It allows you to cut along and across the fibers.

By appointment, hand saws are divided into several types:

  • Classic hacksaws (transverse or longitudinal cutting);
  • Circular saws (for cutting holes);
  • Spike saws (for cutting connecting spikes).

When choosing hand saw An important role is played not only by the shape, but also by the size of the teeth.

There are three types of incisors:

  • Small tooth - 2.0-2.5 mm (for high-precision sawing and cutting of small products);
  • Medium tooth - 3.0-3.5 mm (for medium-sized parts);
  • Large tooth - 4.0-6.0 mm (for rough cutting of timber and logs).

The international classification divides hacksaws not by the height of the teeth, but by their number per 1 inch of the cutting blade. This standard has taken root with us, so do not be surprised if you see the letters PPI or TPI on the tool label. The number behind them is the number of teeth per inch of length. The more it is, the smaller tooth(e.g. PPI 8 or TPI 14).

Today on the market you can see a modernized look of hacksaws. They are easy to distinguish by the gaps cut in the canvas. As a result, the teeth are arranged in groups of 6-7 pieces.

This tool is designed for cutting raw wood. The gaps between the teeth are needed so that wet chips do not clog the cut and are easily removed during operation.

In addition to the usual hand saws, users today are offered an electrified version of the tool. A powerful electric saw can easily handle a large amount of lumber cutting work without tiring the owner too much.

The versatility of its application is achieved due to the configuration of saws with different lengths and widths of the blade and the size of the teeth. This allows you to successfully work not only on wood, but also on plastic and metal. Another name for this tool is a reciprocating saw.

The main parameter characterizing the capabilities of electric cutters is power. It is in the range from 400 to 1600 watts. The depth of cut directly depends on it, which ranges from 90 mm for household to 200 mm for professional models.

Hand tools for metal processing are not so diverse. There is only one type of hand saw that can cut this material. Its working body is a wide or narrow blade with fine hardened teeth. It is inserted into the bow holder and tightened with a screw.

Circular saws

The idea to replace the reciprocating movement of the cutting blade with a circular one can rightly be called revolutionary. It arose after the advent of the electric motor and significantly increased the speed and productivity of work.

A typical representative of a tool that uses this principle is a circular saw. Its main advantages - mobility and high power overshadowed the modest capabilities of a hand hacksaw.

By design, circular electric saws are divided into gear and gearless. In the first case, the electric motor rotates the gear reducer, on the shaft of which stands saw blade. The second option is to mount the disk directly on the motor rotor shaft. Both designs have a mechanism for adjusting the depth of cut and the angle of inclination.

The advantage of gear mechanisms is the ability to perform deeper cuts. Gearless saws have two advantages: lighter weight and affordable price.

In the passive, they are inclined against the course (negative sharpening angle).

Passive discs are indispensable when cutting metal. Active ones are used for wood processing. The disc teeth can be hard-faced. They make it possible to cut harder materials, but negatively affect the cleanliness of the cut.

The working capabilities of the tool depend on the power of the electric motor (from 0.65 to 2.5 kW). Manufacturers also indicate the maximum depth of cut that a circular saw can perform (from 25 to 85 mm).

A variation of this power tool is a circular saw, which is mounted on a fixed frame. This solution allows you to cut long and wide material with high accuracy.

Some manufacturers offer an interesting compromise - hand-held circular saws that can be turned over and fixed on the table, turning it into a stationary "circular saw".

When answering the question of what kind of saws are, it is impossible not to mention trimming devices. In this case circular saw mounted on a pendulum arm. As a bed, a rotary plate with a conveyor (angular) marking is used.

Advantages miter saw in front of the disc are obvious: you can make a perfectly accurate cross cut at any angle. This operation is especially important when docking different wooden parts(platband, plinth, lining, timber).

Chain saws

Often, when working with wood, it is not the cleanliness and accuracy of the cut that is important, but its depth. This is precisely the task that the chain saw solves - a powerful device with an electric or gasoline engine, designed for felling trees and cutting firewood.

It has two main interrelated technical parameters:

  • Engine power;
  • Tire length.

A bus is called two flat plates interconnected with a small gap for installation saw chain. At one end it has a driven sprocket, and at the other there are cutouts for the tensioner.

Power chain saws with electric drive range from 1.5 to 4 kW. When choosing a device for household work on the site, it is better to stop at a power of 1.5 to 2 kW with a saw bar length of 30 to 40 cm. This is quite enough not only for sanitary pruning of the garden, but also for harvesting firewood.

If necessary, such a tool can dissolve a board, log or beam, although you will not get high quality and cutting accuracy.

There are two subspecies of chain saws:

  • With lateral (transverse) placement of the engine;
  • With longitudinal motor mounting.

The first type is simpler in design and cheaper in price. But the second one is more convenient to use, although more expensive due to the introduction of a gearbox into the design.

The main thing that gives the owner a chainsaw is autonomy. With such a tool, you can go to the forest and cut firewood there. You will have to pay a price for such a significant plus: chainsaws are more complex in design than electric ones. This difference is especially felt when buying a cheap "but-hire" device. Problems with starting, carburetor, rings and candles are frequent companions of such a purchase. Therefore, it is better to purchase a more expensive chainsaw than to lose money when operating an economy option.

Electric jigsaw

Disk and chain saws cannot replace a device that uses a narrow cutting blade that moves up and down at a high frequency.

Thanks to this arrangement of the working body, the jigsaw allows you to quickly and accurately cut curved flat parts. Plywood, ceramic and plastic, OSB and soft metal can all be cut a good jigsaw with a quality blade.

Electric jigsaw

For each material, manufacturers make special saws that differ both in the inclination of the teeth and in their frequency.

For example, wood is better cut with a file with a large tooth. WITH sheet metal a canvas with a fine jagged notch will confidently cope. We will not give special recommendations for choosing saws for electric jigsaws, since the manufacturer indicates the recommended type of material on each of them.

Main technical specifications electric jigsaw - engine power, saw blade stroke rate and maximum cutting depth (indicated for different materials).

For household models these parameters are within the following limits:

  • Power from 400 to 900 W.;
  • Stroke frequency (with the possibility of smooth adjustment from 0 to 3000 rpm);
  • Cutting depth (wood - 45-80 mm, steel from 4 to 20 mm).

Useful jigsaw option - laser pointer. It helps to clearly see the direction of the cut when the marking line is hidden under a layer of sawdust. Choosing electric jigsaw, pay Special attention nozzle in which the file is attached. It should provide the most reliable clamp. Otherwise, the file will regularly jump out of its weak "embrace".

A logical development of the design of the electric jigsaw has become a compact band-saw. Its working body is closed steel tape with teeth, which is rotated by an electric motor.

Sawing with it is easier than working with a jigsaw, which vibrates strongly and strives to escape from your hands. The cleanliness and precision of the cut of the band saw is perfect. This not only reduces waste, but also produces a cut surface that does not need to be sanded.

The workpiece here can be held with two hands, which increases the accuracy of operations when cutting curved elements.

The main indicator of band saws for wood is the depth of cut, which can be from 8 to 50 cm. An electric jigsaw and a circular saw are not able to cut such a thick material.

The remaining characteristics refer to cutting blades.

There are two categories here:

  • Carbon saws (manufactured steel C75 and analogues);
  • Alloyed saw blades made of D6A steel (have increased wear resistance and resistance to alternating loads).

Depending on the manufacturing technology and hardening of the cutting teeth, the blades are divided into two types:

  • Saw bands with notched non-hardened teeth;
  • Blades with cut hardened teeth.

The advantages of saws of the first type are low cost and the ability to cut wood with foreign inclusions: nails, stones, fragments. Such a blade works with small sawing volumes (2-4 m3 per day) and at a minimum feed rate (6-10 meters per minute).

The main advantage of a saw blade with a hardened tooth is its high wear resistance (2 times higher than that of saw blades with non-hardened cutters). Disadvantages - high cost and sensitivity to foreign inclusions.

The remaining parameters of band saws are reduced to a simple list:

  • Web width;
  • Number of teeth per length inch (TPI).

For standard wood sawing jobs, a 1/2″ wide band is optimal. Narrower blades (3/8") are used for curly cutting.

The number of teeth of the cutting belt directly affects the evenness of the cut (the more teeth, the smoother the cut). Coarse saw blades (2.3 TPI) are used for cutting wood and logs up to 200 mm thick. For cleaner work use saws with 6 TPI, and for precise cutting use size 10-14 TPI. Optimal size, which achieves high performance and good quality cut - 8 TPI.

A table band saw for metal is similar in design to a wood cutting device. However, its capabilities are more modest. This tool can only perform cross cutting of rolled steel (pipes, angle bars, fittings, channel bars) at different angles.

No exception and the choice of electric saws. This tool, although inferior in power to its gasoline counterpart, has a number of undeniable advantages. The power saw is not suitable for large-scale work. But for owners of dachas and private houses this indispensable assistant. We will talk about the types of saws and how to choose a power saw for a summer residence below.

The main criterion when choosing a saw should be your cottage. Why? The thing is that it is the range of tasks that will influence the choice.

Types of power saws

The heart of our apparatus is the electric motor. It is installed in two positions: along and across. The former, due to their design features, lengthen the electric saw. The engine, located across, firstly, makes the device wider, and secondly, it is heavier. This is due to the inclusion in the design of the gearbox.

Electric saws are divided into:

  • chain;
  • disk;
  • saber.

Chain are those whose working part is a chain with cutting elements. The ends of the chain are connected to form a ring. The cutting process occurs due to the rotation of the cutting element along the body along the guide (the so-called "tire").

Before choosing a chain for an electric saw, you need to pay attention to its profile. Low profile chains have lower performance than higher cutting profile tools. But the vibration in this case is lower, which means high work safety. A video about choosing a chain saw will help you pay attention to the most important points:

Replaceable disks are used as a cutting element of a circular saw. They can be of various diameters and are designed for different materials.

If cutting with discs involves working with metal and stone, it is better to choose a tool with a cutting depth of 100 to 130 mm. The inconvenience is that such a tool weighs from 10 kg. Therefore, when choosing an electric saw, you need to look for a model with the possibility of stationary installation.

Reciprocating saws are also called electric saws. They are very similar to chain tools. The difference is the installation of flat canvases in such products. They move back and forth, due to which the cut occurs. The speed of the cutting part can reach 3 thousand movements per minute. This parameter will become one of the important when choosing a reciprocating electric saw. The tool is quite effective because its cost is high:

Differences between petrol and electric saws

  • Ease of operation. It is much easier to work with an electric saw than with a gasoline saw. This is due to the fact that the power of the device is lower and the speed is weaker;
  • mobility. Naturally, with the petrol option, you will be able to move much more freely;
  • economy. To use the chainsaw we will have to, like consumable, buy not only oil, but also gasoline. An electrical analogue is enough to connect to a network or battery;
  • weight. This is where the electric saw wins. Because the power is less and there is no gasoline, our power tools are much more convenient to use and carry.

Electric saw disadvantages

  • limited range due to the power supply cord. Using an extension cord, you can increase our working radius by several meters. But that doesn't compare to the ability to walk and saw where we want to. Although here, manufacturers of power saws can help us by installing a battery in the tool. This, of course, will increase our mobility, but it will also force us to monitor the charge, storage and operation conditions. Batteries do not like cold and discharge very quickly when operating in a low temperature range;
  • working hours. The total operating time of the saw cannot exceed a few hours per day. Moreover, the time of continuous activity is not more than a few minutes. This is due to the rapid overheating of the working mechanisms;
  • heavy dependence on the network. This is where we run into the biggest problem. On the one hand, the saw can become a problem - traffic jams, wiring burning. On the other hand, the network can cause the power tool to fail. This is due to the fact that either high or low voltage can be observed. Not to mention the power surge. All this leads to rapid wear of parts of the tool or, in general, to its unsuitability.

Advice ! When buying a powerful electric saw, make sure that the power supply of your home or cottage can withstand the power of the tool.

Criteria for choosing a chain saw

In this chapter, we will talk about how to choose a chain saw and what criteria you need to pay attention to:

  • The most important criterion is the power of the engine. It is from this parameter that we will mainly have to build on. This is due to the fact that a more powerful model consumes more energy. We all know that the power grid in rural areas, due to the uselessness of large loads, is made with the expectation of low energy consumption. As soon as you want to connect a powerful saw to such a network, you risk knocking out traffic jams. This is at best. At worst, just burn all the wiring;
  • thermal relay. As mentioned earlier, the time of continuous operation of the electric saw is only a few minutes. This is due to overheating. To protect our tool from overheating, we need a thermal relay. Therefore, before choosing an electric chain saw, take care of its availability;
  • price. It also depends on power. The more expensive, the more powerful. Although, there is one point here. Electric saws with an engine that is located along the body are slightly more expensive than other locations. This is due to the increase in the convenience of work;
  • oil. Our future saw still has one tank. It is for lubricant. Basically, it comes into operation along with starting the engine, and our task is to control the oil level in the tank. The type of lubricant to be filled is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions;
  • chain tension system. The cost of the device also depends on it. The state of tension must be constantly monitored. A loose working part can injure or damage the power tool itself and the worker. From here, there are several types of tension mechanisms. In the simplest, we'll have to take off protective cover and use the nut to control the tension. Well, in more expensive models, this system is simplified and rendered separate element on the outer panel
  • environmental friendliness. If you are a supporter of the protection of nature and environment Then a chain saw is definitely your choice. This is primarily due to the fact that it does not use gasoline and has no gas emissions into the atmosphere. Hence its advantage, which is worth considering when choosing an electric chain saw. With this saw you can work in enclosed space without fear of getting poisoned by exhaust gases. Well, and as a nice bonus, it is several times quieter than its gasoline counterpart.

Advice ! When choosing a chain saw online, be sure to read the reviews of previous buyers.

Types of electric saws for wood

Depending on what kind of wood we have to work with, we can choose a power tool for ourselves.

The best assistant in the country when working with:

  • cutting branches and branches;
  • sawing a tree;
  • a small preparation of firewood for the winter;

handle the chain saw. For these types of work, we need a tool with a power of 1000 to 2000 watts. After reading the reviews on how to choose a chain saw, you can understand in more detail the scope of its application.

For more accurate work (assembly, for example), a reciprocating electric saw is suitable for us. The length of its blade varies from 10 to 35 cm and makes it very comfortable to work with wood and laminate. This tool will be needed where it will be necessary to make curly or simply not straight cuts of the material.

For the remaining tool (circular saw) we have cutting work chipboard sheets, pipes and metal sheets. There is a clarification here. For each material, we need a specific disk, and the circular saw itself is available in two versions: manual and stationary.

What brand of chain saw to choose

In this section, we will talk specifically about which chain saw to choose.

There are several types of power saws: professional, for personal needs and the so-called battery. The latter are suitable for landscaping and are not intended for processing medium and thick wood. The best for these types of work is the Makita BUC122RFE model. Light weight and two batteries allow you to comfortably carry out decorating work.

Knowing how to choose a manufacturer of chain saws, you can narrow the circle desired products. The manufacturer must have been on the market for a long time, have positive feedback from customers and develop in their field of activity.

For needs around the house and cottage, as we have already said, the power of which varies between 1000-2000 watts, the Bosch AKE 35 model is perfect. Its power is 1600 watts, and the tire is 0.35 m. There is a convenient chain tension system, at which we do not have to disassemble half of the saw. Well, the weight (4 kg) will pleasantly surprise you. He's definitely heavier. garden tool, but there is good power here, which will be an excellent choice for a power saw for a summer residence.

The last type is professional chain saws. Here the place of the leader is occupied by the Makita UC4030A model. Its power is 2000 W, and the chain length is 0.4 m. This tool will allow you to comfortably deal with all wooden blanks, not only at home, but also in the country.

How to care for a chain saw

If you properly care for the tool, then it does not require any effort during operation. To do this, we need to disassemble it every time after working with the saw. Remove foreign parts that have entered the device itself and are stuck in the circuit. If the saw is missing automatic feed lubricant for the cutting part, it is imperative to lubricate it after cleaning.

Since, ideally, we take such a tool for giving, we store them in unheated rooms. After such a long storage, it is advisable to keep the saw in a warm room for about a day. This is necessary in order to protect the power tool from the formation of condensate. A forum for giving on how to choose a power saw does not always give useful information on this topic. After all, each tool has its own storage specifics.

When performing construction and repair work a wide range of tools is used, among which chain saws occupy a special place. They are available in various configurations, ranging from simple manual, gasoline-powered, and ending with modern electric, powered by a network or battery. How to choose the right chain saw? It all depends on what exactly the equipment is purchased for. Attention should also be paid to the parameters of the equipment, the power of the motor, the presence of various functions that facilitate the use of the device.

Which saw is better: electric or gas?

When choosing, you need to decide which saw functions are better - gasoline or electric. This question is quite complicated, but there are a number of parameters by which you can choose the device that is most suitable for work. Some useful criteria to consider include:

  1. For construction, you can use either one or the other equipment.
    The chainsaw is different greater productivity, even if the power of the tools is the same. If productivity comes first, then an electric chain saw no longer fits this criterion.
  2. Electric saws require a mains connection. If this is not possible, then gasoline or battery should be preferred. When there is a network in the area, an electric saw will be the best choice.
  3. You can’t do laborious work with an electric saw, but for domestic needs this is the most the best option. Such a saw is not only cheaper, but also more convenient to use. A chainsaw cannot be used indoors.
  4. Too powerful models should not be bought. If required ordinary work at their summer cottage, it is electrical equipment that comes first. But for professional construction, a gasoline model is more suitable.
  5. When choosing any equipment, you need to look at how comfortable it is in your hand. If the device is uncomfortable to hold, then it will be difficult for them to work. Therefore, it is recommended to try out several different models, including them if possible. After being selected best option, attention should be paid to the parameters, engine power and other characteristics that are important during operation.

Criterias of choice

It is necessary to choose chain saws for giving on the basis of numerous parameters that will allow you to perform the work more efficiently and efficiently. This is not only power, but also other indicators that make the equipment more convenient, safer and simpler.

How to choose a chain saw? Attention must be paid to what will be the power. If the work is supposed to be serious, then good power should be preferred. If it is assumed simple work in the garden or building a fence, then more power is not needed. For industrial logging, the most powerful saws are required; a hacksaw is indispensable here. Today, there are special professional models on the market, the engine power of which allows you to smoothly perform complex and lengthy work. Power can be about 4 kW, but we must remember that the weight of this device will be significant. For garden work, you need to take a 1.5-2 kW chain saw, this is quite enough.

Motor location

Unlike other chain saws, electrical equipment can have a different motor arrangement:

  1. The transverse motor is more convenient for vertical sawing of boards when it is necessary to cut from top to bottom. Similar equipment is used when cutting obliquely. An electric chain saw is usually bought for periodic summer work, it can also be used in construction.
  2. The longitudinal arrangement of the engine distinguishes equipment of greater cost, but it is more convenient to use. The saw is balanced, the work is done better and faster. You can cut at any angle. If the device is purchased in order to harvest firewood or work on the construction of an outbuilding, then the longitudinal arrangement is not so necessary. For professional work, it is best to take a longitudinal motor.

Bar length and chain brake

The working tire on which the chain is attached can have different modifications. If the length is sufficient, then the workpiece will be cut immediately. But if the length is too small, then sawing the workpiece quickly will not work, you will have to perform not one, but 2-3 actions.

What tire size is best? For example, for cutting large logs, the maximum length is needed, but for ordinary household work in a summer cottage, you can take saws with a medium-length tire. It is quite enough for harvesting firewood, sawing material, for building a fence. It is believed that the optimal length of the tire is 30-40 cm, which is quite enough for homework.

An electric saw can create a so-called kickback when switched on and in contact with a hard surface. During such an impact, the saw is thrown up towards the operator. In this case, everyone around is exposed to great danger, especially the hands of the operator. To prevent such tossing during operation, a special chain brake is required. What does he represent? This is a lever near the handle and a shield that protects against impact. During the toss-up, the operator's hand hits the shield, and this completely stops the engine. The response time is minimal, it is only 0.1 seconds, injuries will not occur.

overheat protection

During operation, the saw motor becomes very hot. If you do not follow the rules for use, then it may burn out. To avoid such a situation, it is necessary to purchase equipment that has a special overheating protection function. Its presence is not at all necessary, but it is desirable, in this way it is possible to protect the device from damage, especially if the saw is used frequently.

Thermal protection is a special relay that turns off the engine when a certain temperature is reached. Quite often it happens that such a relay saves equipment from overheating. When does overheating occur? For example, the oil for lubricating the chain in the tank is over, and there is no scale on the surface of the tank that allows you to monitor the amount. In this case, the motor, after the oil runs out, starts to run dry, the chain is not lubricated, the saw starts to heat up. If you do not pay attention to this, then the motor at one far from the most beautiful moment, simply burns out. Such a function may not be present in the equipment, then this model must be abandoned in favor of the one that has a thermal relay.

Has a lock button

The chain for the saw is sharp, cases of injury may be due to the fact that the operator can inadvertently take the saw in his hands and turn it on. As a result, injuries can be serious and dangerous, so the locking function is extremely important. You should not buy models that do not have such a function, since handling them is quite dangerous, especially if there is no experience of use.

Today, models of well-known and time-tested manufacturers have such a button to block the chain and motor. They do not offer devices that do not have such protection. If you come across a model under a well-known brand that simply does not have this function, then it is a fake.

Soft start and motor brake

When turning on the saw, it is necessary to ensure the greatest safety, since this is the moment that is considered the most dangerous. During switching on, current is supplied through the winding, its value is maximum. This shortens the life of the motor.

To protect the equipment and yourself, you must choose a device that has the function of soft start and motor brake.

The engine will not gain momentum abruptly, but smoothly and gradually. The presence of an inertial brake allows you to almost immediately stop the motor during shutdown, which reduces energy consumption. This feature also improves the safety of use. Such functions for chain-type electric saws are not mandatory, but when choosing equipment, preference should be given to models with them, since safety is paramount, and the cost of the saw is slightly higher.

Equipment weight and oil container

The chain saw has a different weight, the weight depends on the power, availability additional features. For example, powerful equipment has significant weight, since the body itself and the motor will be large. But with such a saw it will not be very convenient to manage for a long time, this must be taken into account. Hands will get tired, as the weight of the equipment can be up to 5.5-6 kg. If the saw has a power of 1.5-1.8 kW, then the weight will be 3.5-4.7 kg. Therefore, one must clearly understand why exactly a chain saw is being bought, often too much power is never used, but excess weight interferes with work.

Electric saws may have a special tank for oil. It is necessary to lubricate the chain during operation, to improve the quality of the cut. Usually, conventional saws have oil containers of 0.12-0.2 l, this amount is enough for 2 hours of intensive work. But after 2-3 hours, the tank must be refilled, so the oil must always be at hand. For convenience, you should choose a model so that there is a scale for visual definition remainder. This will allow you to see in time that the oil is running out. Otherwise, the saw may start to work "dry", and this threatens to overheat the motor, its rapid breakdown.

Choosing an electric chain saw is not as easy as it might seem from the very beginning. Attention should be paid to a variety of factors, including power, type of motor, the presence of a variety of additional functions, including overheating protection, blocking, smooth start. You must immediately decide what kind of work you need a saw for. For suburban area, firewood harvesting, minor repairs or fencing structures, it is best to use household and semi-professional saws. But during construction, professional wood harvesting, it is recommended to use professional devices that can ensure uninterrupted operation for a long time.

We have collected almost all electric chain saw models available on the market and have identified the best among them based on features and prices.

How are chain saws different?

The main characteristic of chain saws is the power of the motor. Other important parameters are the length of the bar, the speed of the chain and its characteristics, such as the shape of the cutting teeth and their number. All this has an impact on how quickly the operator can make a cut and how comfortable this process will be.

For household, woodworking and gardening, saws with a bar length of 30, 35 or 40 cm are commonly used. The short bar makes it easy to work in cramped conditions, and also takes up less storage space. Long allows you to cut trunks of a larger diameter in one pass.

The power of most chain saw motors is in the range of 1.8 to 2.4 kW. Even the weakest motor will be enough for normal operation, but a more powerful motor will make it faster and more comfortable.

As for the chains, everything is more or less standard here in terms of the number of links for each bar length, but the shape and parameters of the cutting teeth may differ. Each manufacturer selects a chain for the characteristics of their saws. First-tier manufacturers usually have their own chains, while the rest use mass products from various well-known brands, such as Oregon and a number of others.

What formed the basis of our rating of chain saws

We will determine the best electric chain saw based on features and price. The main criterion for us is the maximum speed of work. Basically it is provided by the power of the motor. However, motors of the same power may have different secondary characteristics, and it will be comfortable to work with some, but not with others. But we will leave this behind the scenes for now, since the manufacturers do not provide any additional information on this matter. We also set aside the factor of influence of chains. Anyway, over time, the owner will buy the one that will be sold in the nearest store and fit the parameters.

So, the length of the tire remains. We assume that people choose it according to the diameter of the logs or other materials with which they will work. Consequently, at times they will load the saw to the maximum. Therefore, it would be logical to take into account the power of electric saws, taking into account the length of the tire, and for calculations we introduced the criterion of specific power - power per centimeter of the length of the tire. It will allow you to collect saws with different tires in one table. Then we need to add the price factor to find out which of the offers is the most profitable.

Why did we not take into account the speed of the chain

In real practice high speed movement of the saw chain will speed up the work only at low loads. At nominal loads, the speed will drop noticeably, and as a result, the sawing time will still rest on the power of the motor, the energy of which is mainly spent on cutting the tree. So for the Husqvarna 321 EL saw, the maximum chain speed is 15.2 m / s, but at rated load it drops to 12.2 m / s, and at high it will fall even more. The Bosch AKE 35 - 19 S saw has a maximum speed of 12 m / s, but at the same time it is ahead of the Husqvarna 321 EL in cutting speed, as can be seen from the chain saw tests of the German consumer research institute Stiftung Warentest. In other words, lower gear ratio the transmission gives less chain speed but more torque, resulting in faster work under heavy load.

How to use the main table

We collected all saw models in a large table and sorted them by increasing power cost per centimeter of tire length. In other words, we took the price of the saw and divided it by the power divided by the length of the bar. Those. the most profitable options for buying are closer to the top of the table.

However, the table does not take into account the presence of additional functions, reliability and other things. Here it is better to rely on brands that you trust or user reviews. However, one must be careful with the latter.

So, if you, for example, choose between Bosch, Makita or Hitachi, it is easy to understand from the table whose offer is more profitable.
