Myrtle - how to grow a tree of paradise on a windowsill. Myrtle care at home

Luxurious evergreen shrub myrtle, which is a recognized symbol family well-being, harmony and love, today is rarely found in the collections of Russian flower growers, although it has long been cultivated. A native of the mysterious Mediterranean, it is distributed in the wild in the Azores, northern Africa and the south of the Euro-Asian continent. Covered in legends and revered by various religious concessions, myrtle, unfortunately, does not have the habit of decorating gardens of temperate latitudes, not enduring the harshness of the climate, but has perfectly adapted to life at home.

This exotic beauty is spectacular and decorative, and is also one of the top ten plants that purify the surrounding airspace. The features of its cultivation, care and agrotechnical techniques will be discussed in the article.

Description

The myrtle tree, or rather a tree-like shrub, is an evergreen, decorative, foliage plant, reaching 2-4 meters in height in nature. Indoor representatives of this species rarely cross the meter line, although in greenhouses winter gardens providing the necessary conditions, there are specimens with the parameters of their free brothers.

A multi-stemmed shrub with medium-sized, slightly elongated, dense, opposite leaves with pointed tips, the common myrtle (the most common cultivated species) is compact and decorative. It can decorate any room - from a formal office to an elegant living room. The plant has distinct periods of activity: with the onset of cold weather, myrtle stops in development, and awakens in the spring.

By the beginning of summer, the crop blooms, becoming covered with single or numerous white inflorescences in short racemes on long stalks, located in the axils of the leaves and emitting a pleasant, subtle aroma. With the onset of autumn, flowers pollinated with a brush turn into dark purple, almost black spicy berries that can be used in cooking and medicinal infusions. Ripe fruits produce seeds suitable for subsequent propagation.

All above-ground parts of the plant contain essential oils, which are used not only by perfumers and pharmacists, but also by cooks. This wonderful shrub not only pleases the eye, but also brings very noticeable benefits.

Requirements for maintenance and care

Although myrtle is not the most fastidious representative of the home plant kingdom, follow some rules to ensure it comfortable conditions still have to.

Watering and spraying

One of the main requirements is high humidity. During periods of activation, the plant needs generous watering: the substrate should not dry out. In addition, myrtle is partial to daily spraying and such hygienic procedures as showering. For watering and moistening the foliage, use soft, settled water. Myrtle is also watered during calm winter periods. This is especially true if the plant overwinters in a warm room: the crop will respond to a lack of water by dropping its leaves.

Excessive watering is harmful, since stagnation leads to rotting of the roots due to the activation of pathogenic microflora. Therefore, water accumulated in the pan must be removed after waiting half an hour after watering.

Temperature and light conditions

Myrtle prefers moderate (20-23˚C) air temperature and good lighting. In the summer it is taken out to the balcony or into the garden, where it feels very comfortable. He is not afraid of bright light, and successfully tolerates the sun's rays. Apparently, the southern origin of the culture has an effect. However, myrtle, whose care at home makes it much more tender than its wild counterparts, is not always able to withstand the midday heat. Therefore, the plant should be protected from aggressive sun by building a canopy or a small screen.

Important! sunlight necessary for myrtle. Its deficiency, even with high-quality agricultural technology, will not allow the crop to set flower buds.

For winter, it is advisable to move the crop to a cool place with a temperature of 7-10˚C. This aging stimulates abundant summer flowering. The plant can overwinter in a warmer room, but in this case watering and spraying must also be carried out with the same regularity as in summer. And you should be prepared for the fact that after a warm winter, the myrtle will refuse to bloom.

Feeding

Active growth and high-quality development of a crop is impossible without fertilizing. In spring and summer, myrtle should be fed once every 10 days, using liquid solutions of complex fertilizers for indoor flowers, for example, “Ideal”. The application of fertilizers from the peat-humic group (“Flora”) will help improve the quality of the substrate. They are dissolved according to the instructions and applied once every 2 months.

Crops placed in a cool room for the winter do not need feeding, and those wintering under normal conditions in our homes should receive food once a month.

Reproduction and transplantation

Myrtle is a slow-growing crop, however, young plants are transplanted annually, each time increasing the diameter of the pot by 2-3 cm. Adult specimens develop normally in one container for 3-4 years.

Important! Transplantation should be done during the dormant period until spring.

The optimal soil is a mixture containing turf soil, peat, humus and clean river sand (2*1*1*1). To aerate the roots, expanded clay is used, which is placed on the bottom of a new container. Drainage takes up no more than a quarter of the pot’s volume, then the prepared substrate is added. The plant removed from the previous container is inspected, damaged or rotten roots are removed, powdered with crushed charcoal and placed in a pot, carefully straightening the roots. Then the tree is generously watered, covered with soil and carefully compacted. The planted plant is left in a shaded place for several days, minimizing stress.

Sowing seeds

Myrtle is a houseplant that can be successfully propagated using traditional methods: seeds and stem cuttings.

The seed material is exclusively fresh seeds. They are kept in a slightly pink solution of manganese for 2 hours, dried, sown in a light, breathable peat-sand substrate, moistened with a spray bottle and covered with film. Containers with crops are left in a warm and bright place. As soon as the shoots appear (after 1.5-2 months), the shelter is removed.

Grown seedlings are planted in separate pots, and when they reach a height of 20 cm, the tops of the shoots are pinched, enhancing the growth of lateral branches to form the future crown. Myrtle grown from seeds usually blooms in the 5th year. The length of the process is a disadvantage of this method.

Cuttings

Flower growers give priority to propagation by cuttings. The advantages of this method are unconditional: flowers bloom already in the 2-3rd year.

Cuttings 7-9 cm long are cut from non-flowering apical shoots in early summer. The sections are treated with Kornevin solution. The cuttings are planted in soil consisting of a mixture of peat and sand. To ensure the necessary microclimate, the containers are covered with film and left in a warm place.

Advice! For faster rooting of cuttings, the soil is heated to 24-26˚C.

After 2-4 weeks, the cuttings take root. This can be seen by the formation of new leaves. Established cuttings are transplanted into separate containers and provided with the necessary care.

Crown formation

The myrtle tree tolerates pruning well. Using different techniques, the crown can be given the most bizarre shapes - from a spreading tree to an imitation of the legendary bonsai style.

Important! Pruning myrtle should not be done frequently - this weakens the culture. It will take two to four years to give the plant the desired shape.

To make the tree more luxurious and dense, pinch off the tips of the branches. This significantly stimulates the branching of shoots.

Constant care for the plant brings rewards - the myrtle blooms. This is an amazingly beautiful sight, the peak of which occurs in June-July. At this time, access to fresh air and maximum lighting are required. Another condition for quality flowering is pruning at the right time.

Important! Formative pruning of the bush cannot be carried out in the spring, since the flower buds are laid on the tops of the shoots, and an ignorant gardener will simply cut them off. It is more advisable to wait for the end of flowering and then start forming the crown.

Diseases and pests

Myrtle is a plant resistant to serious diseases. Various ailments usually arise from him due to errors in care. For example, drying out the soil and insufficient lighting can cause leaf loss, and excessive watering can damage the root system. The attention of the grower and proper care will help correct the problems that have arisen.

The tree responds to the care shown with the excellent condition of shiny foliage and the aroma of excellent delicate flowers. The photos of myrtle presented in the article clearly demonstrate the beauty and decorativeness of this symbol of world harmony.

Myrtle is one of ancient plants. The myrtle flower is mentioned in the Bible and described in ancient Greek legends.

This permanently green shrub with a pleasant aroma grows mainly in countries with warm climates and is the owner and supplier of healthy oils from flowers and fruits.

Content requirements

Indoor myrtle requires high humidity, therefore, in addition to watering the soil, it is necessary additional spraying foliage. The water should be soft, but not distilled, it is best to use water room temperature, which was infused at home for a day or night.

What should be the soil for indoor myrtle:

  1. Turf for wood – 30%.
  2. Peat or peat soil – 30%.
  3. White sand – 20%.
  4. Humus – 20%.

May well fit special soils for flowers or greenhouse land. Caring for a myrtle tree at home requires vigilance and timely watering; the soil should not be dry, but the water should not stagnate in the pan. Complex fertilizer for flowers is used as fertilizing.

Care in summer and winter

The room temperature in the myrtle habitat should not be less than twenty-two degrees. But despite the temperature, the flower must be protected from direct heat sun rays . The air should be fresh; if the temperature outside is acceptable, the tree can be moved to a balcony or street. If this is not possible, the room is ventilated. But do not forget that the plant is picky and afraid of drafts.

In the warm season, water the plant often, but not abundantly, to avoid stagnation of water. Feed the flower about once a week.

IN winter time Watering is carried out much less frequently, but the soil is not allowed to dry out. Spray the plant only if the temperature in the room remains at least 22 degrees. The soil is fertilized once a month. In winter, the flower “goes into hibernation”, and, accordingly, all vital processes slow down. Don't be alarmed by the loss of foliage on a plant. In spring, the myrtle will completely restore its crown.

Common myrtle is evergreen. Caring for it at home is not difficult, but there are many nuances. This article describes the rules for growing from seeds and cuttings, provides recommendations for pest control and describes all possible problems problems that a beginning gardener may have.

Before considering caring for a myrtle flower at home, you need to familiarize yourself with the technology of its propagation. The tree needs to be grown on a special mixture of humus and sand, taken in equal quantities.

You can add perlite (10% of the total mass will be enough). This is an earthen mixture that is sold in any flower shop. It is needed to regulate soil moisture. Perlite absorbs excess moisture when there is excess, but in a dry environment it gives it away.

Seeds

Growing myrtle from seeds at home is best done in the summer and spring. It should be sown in a container 10 cm long. They are not planted deeply; you just need to sprinkle them with a 5 mm layer of soil. After this, the pots with seeds are covered with glass and left to germinate at a temperature of about 20 degrees.

Advice! When purchasing seeds, you should pay attention to the production time. If they have been stored for more than a year, then their germination is reduced by half.

The first shoots usually appear after 7-14 days. After this, you should wait for the first leaves and immediately plant the myrtle in different pots. If you do this in the summer, then the plant should be protected from overheating in the sun; it is best to place it in the shade. After a month, you can feed the plant; any fertilizer containing nitrogen is suitable for this. It takes part in the formation of the substance chlorophyll, which protects plants from exposure to sunlight. The dosage and method of application are different for each fertilizer; it is indicated on the labels. This will protect the myrtle from drying out, because reviving a flower is more difficult than providing proper care.

Cuttings

Cuttings allow you to strictly adhere to a specific variety. It is advisable to take them from healthy plants that have active growth and development. It is best that the donor is over a year old and has had time to lignify at least partially.

You need to plant it 1-2 cm deep, in a warm room at a temperature of about 25 degrees. Any growth stimulants that are sold in stores in large quantities will do. After a few weeks, the cuttings will take root.

Watering and care rules

– a houseplant, growing and caring for it does not take much time. It is better to place a pot with a tree near a window; in order to bloom, the plant needs to be in the sun periodically.

In summer, the common myrtle should be watered frequently, the frequency should be such that the soil does not dry out. In winter, you can do it less frequently, using the same principle. As soon as the soil begins to dry out, it needs to be watered. Excess water accumulated in the pan must be poured out immediately.

Advice! Do not allow excess moisture in the pan to prevent root rot.

Summer temperature regime suitable for flower. It can easily tolerate up to 18 degrees of heat indoors. In winter, it is not easy to provide the required temperature at home, it should be around 10 degrees. If the plant is in warm room, then it will shed its foliage until a suitable regime is established.

Crown trimming

Caring for indoor myrtle at home also involves adjusting its shape. In its natural state, the crown looks like a pyramid, but you can give it more splendor. It is best to do this after the plant has finished flowering.

Important! Immediately after transplantation, you cannot prune, because the flower needs time to adapt to the new soil.

Trimming methods:

  • you can trim the top of the plant, which will result in a small bush;
  • if you work with shoots that are located below, the result will be a bonsai-style tree ( Japanese style, which are small copies of trees).

The branches located on the sides of the myrtle should not be cut off. This is due to the fact that the main stem is not dense enough.

Myrtle takes pruning very well, which allows you to realize any fantasies at home. The only problem is the slow growth of the flower; you will have to wait at least two years for your crown design.

Transfer

New gardeners are often interested in the question of how to replant myrtle. This needs to be done every year if the plant is young, then less often. There should be enough soil to retain moisture and not dry out immediately. If you notice that the soil becomes dry during the day, you should change the container for the plant. The trunk must be visible and cannot be completely immersed in the soil. But do not choose containers that are too large for transplantation; this is not necessary.

Possible diseases and problems during cultivation

If improperly cared for, the foliage may turn yellow or fall off. Faced with these problems, you need to know how to revive myrtle at home.

Leaves fall and dry

The myrtle has dried up, what to do in this case? There is no need to panic when the leaves fall. This is a completely normal reaction to changes in temperature. Myrtle subtropical plant, therefore it does not always tolerate our climate well. When it gets colder and daylight hours shorten, the plant may not have time to accumulate all the necessary useful elements. However, their consumption is not reduced, which leads to wilting and falling leaves.

This reaction occurs during the cold season. Therefore, in autumn and winter you should adhere to the desired temperature - 10 degrees. This will reduce the consumption of beneficial microelements, and the leaves will remain in the same shape.

Leaves turn yellow

Yellowing of foliage is a more serious problem, because there are a huge number of prerequisites for this.

This may happen for the following reasons:

  • insufficient or excess moisture;
  • dark room;
  • lack of nutrients in the soil;
  • location near the battery;
  • pests

To stop the yellowing of leaves, you need to eliminate all possible preconditions for this. You can try to buy fertilizer or increase the existing one, which also sometimes helps restore myrtle. Growing at home has few rules, which are not difficult to remember. Try to follow the care instructions.

Slow growth

Some novice gardeners panic due to the slow growth of the tree, but this is a normal condition for the flower. At home, the flower takes about two years to finally grow.

Advice! The ideal place for a myrtle tree is partial shade.

If you are sure that slow growth is still present, then there is only one reason for this - a lack of useful microelements. In this case, you should change the fertilizer for the soil or increase the feeding of the myrtle tree.

Doesn't bloom

Myrtle may not bloom at home. This happens when cultivation technology is violated.

  • crown pruning in spring;
  • the room is not ventilated;
  • dry air;
  • lack of sunlight.

Eliminating all these causes will help solve the problem.

Drops leaves

This can happen when the myrtle is in a dark room or when the temperature regime is violated during the cold season. Try placing the plant closer to the sun.

The leaves are falling

This problem is also a consequence improper care behind the myrtle. Signs of presence spider mite on a flower:

  • white cobweb;
  • gradual drying of foliage.

Scale insects can also lead to the death of the plant. It is located throughout the myrtle tree.

Signs of a plant being damaged by scale insects:

  • drying of leaves;
  • falling leaves;
  • small brown spots on leaves.

Aphids are located at the bottom of the myrtle tree. She feeds on the juice of the flower.

Signs of aphids on myrtle:

  • curled leaves;
  • yellowing and falling of leaves.

Besides creating favorable conditions To grow a plant, you can also prepare a special solution at home. To do this you will need 0.5 liters of water, 50 grams of tobacco (ground into powder) and 50 grams laundry soap. All ingredients must be mixed and sprinkled on the myrtle tree with the solution three times a day.

You can also use potassium permanganate, 1 tbsp. a spoon should be dissolved in a liter of water. Spray the flower with this composition 2-3 times a day.

Myrtle is an evergreen plant grown as a shrub and as a small tree. myrtle tree very popular as a gift for the bride, symbolizing a successful marriage. This plant is not that easy to care for, but it is worth it.

General information

Myrtle has long been valued for its medicinal properties– flowers and foliage contain essential oils, and if the leaves and fruits are dried, they can be used as spices. For example, cloves are a product obtained from one of the myrtle species.

During the cold season, for prevention, they use essential oils, spreading their scent throughout the room or simply placing the plant on the windowsill, for example, in a children's room. Research has also shown that myrtle can reduce allergic reactions in children.

Myrtaceae also include plants that are valuable in their characteristics, such as tea tree, eucalyptus and clove tree.

Types and varieties

(Myrtus communis) or it is also called " communis " (aka " indoor ") is the most common type in home gardening. This species is characterized by a short, well-branched trunk, which is covered with exfoliating reddish-brown bark.

The leaves are green, oval, shiny and have a pleasant aroma. The flowers are white (sometimes with a faint pink tint) with protruding stamens. Blooms in the summer season. The fruits are black berries with a reddish tint.

There are many varieties of this myrtle species:

  • - a compact shrub that has many fruits, smaller in size than the mother’s.

  • Myrtle variety Alhambra - has white fruits and dense foliage.

  • (Variegata) stands out among others with its variegated foliage.

  • Myrtle "La Clape" – has purple berries.

  • Among them there is also a dwarf form - myrtle "Microphylla" .

This miniature copy tree, a very popular plant, is of great value among gardeners; its leaves contain essential oils used in medicine and cosmetology. The price of such a tree is not small.

The shape of such a tree can be varied, the trunk twists and bends during the growth process, and thanks to periodic pruning of the shoots, the crown shape can be formed as desired.

- occurs both in the form of a bush and in the form of a tree with brown peeling bark. Leaves are matte, dark green, white flowers bloom in July or August. The fruits are dark red and edible.

(Myrtus chequen) - a tree with glossy leaves and slightly wrinkled edges.

(Myrtus ralfii) - this bush is distinguished by pink and red flowers edible berries. The leaves have a white or cream edge.

Myrtle Boetica

A large-leaved species, the leaves are larger than those of other species (6-7 cm, while the standard is 1-2 cm), with a pointed end. This myrtle grows very slowly. The trunk has interesting feature– it twists, and as it grows, interesting shapes are formed. The flowers are white and large, and the berries are oblong and black.

(Cassandra or bog myrtle ) is an evergreen shrub that grows exclusively in swamps, from which it gets its name. It reaches a height of one meter. Young shoots and leaves contain poison that is dangerous for animals (goats and sheep).

If you crush a leaf of such a plant, you will notice a pronounced lemon aroma. In some countries, such leaves are used as a seasoning. Leaf dimensions: length 10 cm and width 1-4 cm. It blooms with white flowers at first, and then darken to a cream and slightly yellow hue.

Myrtle care at home

Myrtle is a plant that needs to create a climate with high humidity, therefore spraying is a prerequisite for healthy and lush growth. Never forget about watering, but also do not overwater, the plant is very sensitive and can get sick. Water only with soft, settled water.

But myrtle is not afraid of drafts, so you can safely leave it on the windowsill, where the window is always open for ventilation. With the air flow, beneficial phytoncides will spread throughout the apartment, destroying pathogenic microbes.

The temperature must be controlled within 18-24°C. In the summer, it is advisable to place the myrtle outside or on a balcony and shade it a little so that the rays of the particularly scorching sun do not fall.

Pruning myrtle

As for pruning, myrtle tolerates it well, not to mention the fact that thanks to this, it is possible to give the crown a different desired shape, creating various compositions. Pruning and replanting are carried out in the spring, no more than once every two years.

Transplanting myrtle

When replanting, use the transshipment method, choosing a pot slightly larger than the previous one. Simple soil with good drainage is suitable for myrtle. The substrate is prepared from equal parts of turf soil, peat and sand.

Adding some charcoal and organic compost will help. Any pruned varieties must be additionally fed; any fertilizer for this purpose is suitable. indoor plants(complex mineral), without chlorine in the composition. The young plant begins to bloom only in the fourth or fifth year after planting.

Myrtle care in winter

In winter, myrtle experiences a dormant period, during which watering is reduced (the soil is only slightly moistened, preventing it from drying out) and the plant is moved to a cooler (8-10°C) but bright place.

If this is not done, the leaves will drop. Although this is not a big danger, since in the spring new, young leaves will begin to appear.

Propagation of myrtle by cuttings

If main task When propagation is necessary - preservation of maternal (varietal) characteristics, then cuttings are considered the ideal method of propagation.

Cuttings are taken from a healthy plant; they should not be very young, but in a semi-lignified form. For better rooting, the cut is treated with a special growth stimulator (for example, root) and stuck into the prepared soil at an angle (45-55°). The substrate is constantly checked for moisture.

Myrtle from seeds at home

The seed method is less effective, but it is also used. At the beginning of spring, the prepared substrate (one part peat and one part sand) is poured into boxes (soil thickness 8-10 cm), sown with myrtle seeds, sprinkled with the same mixture of soil (3-4 cm thick), moistened and covered with glass. The temperature is controlled around 20°C.

Periodically, the glass is opened to ventilate and moisten the soil, as necessary. The glass can be turned over or wiped to remove excess condensation.

In a couple of weeks, the first seedlings will begin to appear, when there are too many of them, thinning is carried out, and after at least three leaves appear on the seedlings, they are transplanted into separate pots with the same substrate composition. A month later, young plants are fed with low concentration nitrogen fertilizer.

Diseases and pests

If, on the contrary, there is constant excessive watering, then in this case rotting of the roots and damage by putrefactive bacteria and fungal infections are inevitable, and this is already serious. Dealing with such problems is not easy and most often the death of the plant is observed.

  • If the leaves become dull, turn yellow, and the edges curl , then this indicates an excess of lighting.
  • If the stems become too elongated and the leaves become too small - This a clear sign lack of lighting.
  • Myrtle doesn't bloom – if pruning is carried out too often or if too much is trimmed at one time, and also if the room is poorly ventilated.
  • Leaves dry up and fall off – if this happens in winter, it means that the air is too dry and heat(for example, when heating devices are operating in the room). The plant needs a cooler room and a little moisture (just a little!). Also, leaves can wither when water stagnates in the pan or from sunburn (direct sunlight).

Myrtle is such a charming plant that you fall in love with it at first sight: fluffy crown, dark green glossy leaves, creamy beads of buds, beautiful white flowers with numerous stamens.

Common myrtle, namely, it is grown at home, and is found growing wild in Mediterranean countries. He was known back in Ancient Egypt. And in Ancient Greece Myrtle was an iconic plant. Entire myrtle groves grew near the temples of the goddess of love Aphrodite, symbolizing youth and beauty. And the name itself - myrtle came to us from Ancient Greece, which translated means balm, myrrh.

An interesting custom associated with growing myrtle at home, existed for a long time in Lutheran Germany: a little girl was given a small pot of myrtle. The girl took care of the plant herself, trying to grow it into a beautiful and fluffy tree. Having become a bride, she wove a wreath from its branches, in which she walked down the aisle, and the myrtle tree settled in a new family. They say that if the bride’s myrtle tree was well-groomed, with a strong trunk and fluffy crown, then the family life of the newlyweds was happy. What was the reason for this?

Hard to say. Maybe that’s why there was happiness in a family with a well-groomed myrtle tree, because the ancient goddess of love favored its owner. Or maybe the whole point was that only knowledgeable, skillful and, most importantly, patient people could grow a good myrtle tree in a room. Such people will be able to improve family life and bring comfort. So there will be happiness in the house. And whether myrtle is the cause of this happiness or not, everyone decides for himself.

But myrtle is valued not only for its beauty. Pluck a myrtle leaf and rub it lightly. The pleasant, resinous aroma that appears indicates the essential oils contained in the plant. They are widely used in perfumery and medicine. And in an apartment, even a very small myrtle plant will “fight” with all its might for the health of its owners. The smell calms him down nervous system, helps with insomnia. Essential oils Common myrtle have such a powerful bactericidal effect that they destroy pathogenic microorganisms and purify the air in the apartment. Basil has the same effect. For colds, runny nose, and sore throat, it is useful to brew myrtle leaves and breathe in the resulting steam.

Grow common myrtle at home not everything is easy. Still, it's worth trying. Knowing the difficulties, you can avoid them or overcome them.

Caring for myrtle in summer

Myrtle loves bright rooms. Water abundantly, but without accumulating water in the pan. Myrtle does not tolerate even short-term drying out of the earthen clod: this can lead to yellowing, drying and falling of the leaves. Myrtle likes very high air humidity, so spray the leaves more often, up to 2-3 times a day, from spring to mid-summer, and also regularly feed it with complex fertilizers or biological fertilizers once every two weeks. In the summer, it is useful to expose myrtle to fresh air.

Caring for common myrtle in winter

In winter, the common myrtle requires a cooler (optimum temperature 8-10 ° C), but bright room. In winter, myrtle should be watered very carefully, just so that the earthen ball does not dry out. It is quite difficult to create such conditions for myrtle in winter in an ordinary city apartment, so we can recommend the following. Put flower pot with myrtle on the lightest and coldest window sill, next to the glass the air temperature at night is about +12 +15°C; try to limit the intake of dry and warm air from central heating radiators to the plant; scour its crown more often; water with minimal doses, but do not allow over-drying. Under such conditions, myrtle will feel quite tolerable in winter.

The soil mixture for growing common myrtle consists of turf or leaf soil, humus, peat and sand in equal parts (1:1:1:1). Young myrtle is replanted every year, then, when the plant becomes an adult, replanting is done once every 3-4 years. But every year in spring and autumn you can change upper layer soil. This will avoid soil depletion. For older myrtle specimens, the earth mixture is heavier - the ratio of the above components is 2:1:1:1.

Pruning myrtle. In order for myrtle to branch better, young plants need to pinch out the apical buds on the shoots. Myrtle tolerates pruning and pruning very well, so its crown can be given any shape: bush-like, tree-shaped, spherical, spindle-shaped, etc. In addition, by pruning you will create the myrtle dimensions that suit you. During spring pruning, and also in June, when the myrtle crown is forming, you can take a lot of cuttings and root them. Common myrtle propagates by stem cuttings.

For better rooting, myrtle cuttings can be treated with root formation stimulants, after which they easily take root in a mini-greenhouse for 20-30 days at 18-20 °C. After they take root, the myrtle cuttings are transplanted into small pots. Common myrtle blooms in the 4-5th year of life.
