Making a pipe clamp with your own hands. How to install a clamp on a pipe? Connection to the main pipeline

Communications is perhaps the most problematic area in modern apartments and houses. Even a carefully assembled and adjusted system can fail over time, which manifests itself in the form of a small leak or outright fountains from the pipe, if the problems are serious. In both cases, a plumbing pipe clamp is best suited as an immediate solution to the problem, which makes it possible to quickly resolve the difficulties that have arisen.

Clamps allow you to quickly eliminate critical holes in pipes or install communications to walls and ceilings. Their design is as simple as possible - subject to the installation technology, the mount is guaranteed to serve you for several years. In this article, you will be given detailed instructions about how to install a clamp on a pipe with your own hands.

Mounting clamps

Material selection

Clamps come in a variety of sizes and designs, however, all items have a spherical shape that follows the bend of the pipe. The design of the product necessarily contains clamping bolts, which make it possible to tighten the clamp as tightly as possible around the repaired / mounted pipe. By scope, this product subdivided fixing and repair names.

The clamp-fastener consists of a metal shell and a corrugated rubber gasket that prevents vibration noise and excessive squeezing when twisting. A prerequisite for products of this type is the presence of a side mount, which is most often made in the form of a welded nut - with its help, the pipe is mounted / suspended on a wall or ceiling.

Leak repair clamps have a wider metal sheath and a solid rubber gasket that . There are also specialized products for tapping an additional branch into the water supply system - with its help you can create a branch without the participation of welding machine. The only condition for its use is the absence of strong pressure in the system.

Upon purchase, Special attention you should pay attention to the dimensions of plumbing pipe clamps - the wrong size will make the purchase in vain. The diameter of the pipe is determined by a caliper or, in the absence of it, you can simply measure the outer section of the pipe.

It is also important to have a rubber gasket - it is not always included in the basic package. If there is a choice between products with and without a seal, then you should give your preference to the first option, even if its price turns out to be an order of magnitude higher - the gasket significantly increases specifications mounts.

Mounting fasteners

  • The path of the future pipeline is being marked, the location of the fasteners is marked. The distance between the fasteners is determined depending on the length and weight of the pipe - in standard situations it is about one to two meters;
  • At the place of the future fastening, a hole is drilled into which a plastic dowel is inserted, and a threaded stud at the end. A clamp is screwed onto the hairpin in the open state - it should be twisted all the way, but one should not be too zealous so as not to deform the shell of the product;

  • The pipe is inserted and the clamp is clamped. It is important here to create a floating clamp and not overdo it - it should not be too tight to compensate for the thermal expansion / contraction of the material;

Note!
In this case, the installation of ventilation, a chimney and other light items is implied - heavy large-sized metal pipes filled with water cannot be fixed in this way.

  • Before putting the clamp on the pipe, it is advisable to turn off the water supply in the system. If this is not possible, installation is also possible, but you will have to get pretty wet;
  • The clamp is put on the broken place in such a way that the crack / cavity is located approximately in the middle of the rubber gasket. The rubber seal must lie flat, without folds. The fasteners are tightened as tightly as possible to avoid leakage;

  • The junction is wiped dry, the supply is resumed and checked for leaks. If this is the case, then the mount is additionally tightened;

Pipe insert

First of all, a hole of the required diameter is drilled, then an adapter is put on it. The main thing is that the sealing gasket lies without bends. After tightening the clamps, the connection is ready for installation of an additional water supply branch.

Note!
During operation. pressure must not be applied to this type of connection, as this may cause leakage or deformation of the clamp.

Accidents in plumbing and heating systems are a common thing, but always unexpected and unpleasant. The good news is that minor damage can usually be repaired. on their own. It would be nice to have a few clamps in stock for this. right size. They will help to close the crack from corrosion, block the "extra tie-in" or connect the burst section of the pipeline. How to make a pipe clamp in one case or another, our article will tell.

Scope of clamps

Repairs can only be made on straight sections of the pipeline

The scope of such devices applies only to horizontal and vertical sections of highways. It is impossible to put a clamp on a pipe with a branch or at the interface where tees and crosses are located.

But these special parts are successfully used on structures made of different materials. You can just as well put in order a fragile cast iron pipe and plastic piping made of copper. The range also includes special clamps designed for asbestos-cement pipes. also in open sale you can buy parts that are used in the repair of polymer and composite (metal-plastic) pipelines.

Repair devices of this type can eliminate the following defects:

  • Cracks in the body of highways. Their size can be the smallest or quite large (in length and width).
  • Pipe fractures. To eliminate them, use a repair clamp with a mount. It not only helps to "heal" the structure, but also allows you to securely fix the "fault" on the support - the ceiling or wall.
  • Fistulas in straight sections. In this case, the pipe clamp to eliminate the leak must have an elastic backing that is pressed into the fistula. For systems transporting aggressive chemical substances, special repair parts from of stainless steel.
  • Damage caused by corrosion.

Varieties of devices

Clamps for industrial production

Repair clamps industrial production have the following varieties:

  1. Repair bilateral. It consists of two "halves" connected by screws. Such a repair kit should be selected taking into account the specific diameter of the pipe.
  2. Unilateral U shape. Used on small diameter pipelines ( maximum size- DN 50). The upper part of the element is perforated for threaded mounting.
  3. Multi-part. Designed to protect pipelines large diameter. Pipe clamp 6000 includes three or more elements. Accordingly, during the installation of such devices, at least three threaded pairs are used (one for each joint between the elements).
  4. For fixing pipes. In this option, the repair kit can be single-sided or double-sided. In the lower part, a self-tapping screw is attached to it, passed through a special perforation. When assembling such a collar, first of all, its lower part is attached to the wall. This is done with a self-tapping screw. Then the pipe is laid in the lower connector, after which it is pressed with the upper part of the device.

Homemade clamps

Single and double sided clamps

Sometimes it becomes necessary to make homemade repair kits. In this case, you can use a rubber band, wire and tape. In practice it should work like this:

  • A rubber band should be wound around the pipe (a rectangular piece of an old bicycle tube may be suitable for this).
  • After that, it must be pulled with wire. Especially carefully winding is done around the edges homemade device- here it should be tightened with thick coils, laid row by row.
  • Then the rubber fixed with wire is wrapped with insulating tape or tape.
  • At the end, it is recommended to paint the homemade clamp on the heating pipe.

Application of repair parts

Clamp Restrictions

As already mentioned, such devices can only be used on straight sections of networks and placed only on the outside of the pipe. In addition, there are other restrictions:

  • The repaired pipeline should not have a diameter of more than 350 mm. That's why it's so hard to find clamps for sewer pipes large size.
  • The dimensions of the products should be within 15-20 cm plus the length of the damaged area. When repairing polymer pipes, such an excess is 20-30 cm.
  • When a line breaks, it can be repaired, provided that the distance between the broken ends does not exceed 1 cm. The deviation of their axes should not be more than 2-3 degrees.
  • Damage that can be closed with a clamp should not cover more than 60% of the pipe body. Otherwise, the section is simply cut out and replaced with a tie-in using fittings or two clamps.

Advantages of the part

Detail for fixing pipes with a self-tapping screw

In the case of using these universal parts, you will be able to appreciate its advantages:

  1. The repair kit is mounted very quickly, literally, in a few minutes. To fix it, you just need to screw two pairs of bolt nuts.
  2. If you install the factory clamp correctly, it is able to withstand a large load - within 6-10 atmospheres. At the same time, the temperature of the transported substance in the system can reach 120 °C.
  3. Products have a wide range of sizes. The smallest clamp is designed for a 1/2 inch (150 mm) pipe, and the largest one can repair a pipeline that has a diameter of 1200 mm. Indeed, in stores building materials you can find only serial products with a diameter of 350 mm. Larger items will need to be made to order.
  4. Having restored the integrity of the pipeline with a clamp, you can take your time to remove it. According to experience, such a "repair" can last at least 5 years.
  5. Devices allow you to repair work in the current transport system. This is why clamps are highly respected by emergency plumbers.

Clamp-based repair kits are produced all over the world. However, experts value most of all such manufacturers as Romacon (Holland), Melcher and Frenzen Armaturen (Germany), Domex (Poland), IDRA (China).

If the question of how to put a clamp on a pipe is very difficult for you, you should contact the experts. They will do it with ease. Let everything in your house work smoothly and trouble-free!

The clamp is a crimping material for pipelines. First of all, you should familiarize yourself with what kind of clamps are and for what purposes they are used. In this case, you can purchase a ready-made hose clamp in the store or make the device yourself. Making is quite simple and will help out in an emergency.

Pipes of large and small diameters have a bandage in their design - a special crimping material. It is made of steel and an internal seal, which is called a cuff. Corrugated rubber acts as a sealant. It guarantees a tight seal and prevents the pipes from deforming if the fastening screws are tightened too tightly. The rubber also reduces vibration and noise.

Important characteristics of clamps when buying:

  • Diameter of the inner part;
  • Width of crimping material;
  • Bandage thickness.

The tightening force of the clamp depends on its size. The purpose of using the element depends on the strength of the connection. It is also important to consider the level of possible load.

The design of metal clamps is quite simple. The element consists of a steel crimp and a rubber seal.

Clamps are widely used to stop leaks in water pipes Oh. In case of unforeseen breakdowns, the connection element can be made by hand. Factory options have a wide range of uses: heating, gas, water, sewer pipe.

Varieties of clamps on the pipe to eliminate leaks

The popularity of clamps is due to a large list of advantages. These include versatility of use: suitable for both plastic and metal pipes, for plumbing and heating. Repair with a bandage is quite easy. The emergency clamp is selected to eliminate the leak, taking into account the damage and the pipe material.

Types of clamps:

  1. Bilateral bandage. It has two elements in its design. Refers to universal devices.
  2. One-sided clamp. It is a product in the shape of the letter U. It has a rubber gasket in the design. Used for small pipes.
  3. Standard crimp option.
  4. Triangular variety. Widely used for large pipes.

In addition to repair clamps, there is also a bandage for attaching pipes to surfaces. It looks like a regular bandage with a hole for a nut to attach the product to the floor or wall. Clamps are also distinguished by the material of manufacture.

Bandage devices are made of steel, cast iron, stainless steel and galvanized material.

Some manufacturers make complete sets for bandages. So you can repair pipes of large diameter. The number of components depends on the cross section of the pipes.

Making a collar with your own hands from improvised materials

To work, you need a strip of galvanized sheet. The thickness of the steel should not exceed 1 mm. You will also need a piece of rubber 3 mm thick. In addition, you will need bolts, nuts and washers of suitable dimensions.

Necessary tools for work:

  • Scissors for cutting metal;
  • Hammer;
  • Pliers;
  • Wrench;
  • Drill;
  • Calipers.

A caliper is used to determine the section of pipes. For large pipes, use a corner and a ruler. Next, you will have to cut out the steel strip. Its width ranges from 4 to 8 cm. The length of the material is calculated separately. To do this, the circumference of the pipe is multiplied by the number Pi. You will have to add a few centimeters, with the calculation of the equipment of the ears.

The dimensions of the holes in the ears depend on the cross section of the bolts. With wide washers, an extra couple of millimeters should be added. This will help install the clamp later.

If the width of the crimp strip is more than 6 cm, then holes for 3 bolts should be made. Ears should be bent in a straight line. For convenience, you should measure the line with a marker. You can bend the line yourself or with the help of pliers.

After that, the steel must be bent around the pipe. The ears are connected so that the holes match for screwing in the bolts. Then insert a pre-prepared rubber gasket.

Basic rules on how to put a clamp on a heating pipe

The bandage clamp is used when fistulas have occurred in the tube. This occurs when corrosion is applied to metal walls. Clamps are also used in the event of cracks, fractures, leaks on the water pipeline.

Bandage mounting sequence:

  1. First shut off the water supply. In the heating system, it acts as a coolant.
  2. The installation site is cleaned and leveled. Removed with sandpaper upper layer paints.
  3. Next, install the clamp. The nuts are slightly loosened to properly position the part. The rubber seal should be placed in the middle of the breakage.
  4. It remains only to tighten the clamp. To do this, use the keys.

At correct installation there shouldn't be any leakage problems. When the water supply is restored, the effect is immediately noticeable. To increase the tightness of the device, the surface of the silicone strip is treated with a silicone-based sealant. After polymerization, the connection will be more reliable.

Clamp prices can vary greatly. Not only the manufacturer plays a role, but the material and complexity of the design.

To save money, you can use homemade clamps. But irregular shape devices are fundamentally not suitable for sewer pipes. They can only lead to more severe damage. Therefore, in such cases it is better not to take risks.

A quality product can last for many years. But if the pipes are old enough, then problems may arise elsewhere. That is why it is advised to replace the old pipeline. At high pressure in pipes it would be better to use welding. This is a more secure mount.

In addition to standard options, mortise clamps are distinguished. They are used when connecting the house to the central water supply. The installation of such devices is carried out by locksmiths using milling machine. But this option work is available only to professionals.

Types of pipe clamps (video)

The design of the clamps is quite simple, as is the installation. That is why, if necessary, you can create a clip with your own hands. The clamp can even be made of wire. But it is better to use a small piece of metal and rubber. The main thing is to follow the installation rules, and then the leak will be reliably eliminated.

I hope, dear reader, the information presented in this article has helped you at least a little to understand the problem you have.

I also hope that you will help me get out of the difficult situation in which I recently found myself. Even 10 rubles of help will be of great help to me now. Oleg, Yekaterinburg asks the question: Please help me solve this problem. At the cottage, the water riser began to leak. Overhaul with the replacement of pipes is planned for the spring.

You need to fix the leak somehow. Need detailed instructions on how to make a pipe clamp. I would be very grateful for good advice. The expert answers: Various breaks in pipes have been repaired with clamps for a very long time.

The technology of such work is tested, simple and reliable. To perform, you will need the following materials: a piece of tin; a piece of rubber; bolts; nuts; washers. The clamp consists of a metal crimp - a bandage, as well as an internal rubber seal - a cuff. Absolutely any tin will do, but better try to pick up galvanized.

Such a bandage will be more resistant to corrosion. The thickness should not be less than 0.5 mm. The cuff can be cut from an old boot, a piece of an automobile or bicycle inner tube, or a thick mitten.

Any rubber will do. The number of bolts depends on the clamp width. If narrow, then one is enough.

For a wide one, you will need 2 or 3. Diameter from 6 to 10 mm. Nuts and washers are selected from them. First, prepare the tools: Hammer. Pliers.

A vice will also work. Caliper. Can be replaced with a piece of some kind of lace. Scissors for cutting metal. A jigsaw or grinder will do. Hand or electric drill. Drills to the size of the bolts. Wrenches. Sandpaper. Clamp installation Measure the diameter of the pipe with a caliper.

So you will know how long to cut a strip of tin. To do this, multiply the number "pi" by the value of the diameter. The result is the circumference of the circle.

Those who do not like geometry or do not have a caliper can use a cord or something similar. Cover your pipe with this cord and make marks on it, for example, with a felt-tip pen or chalk. By measuring the distance between the marks, get the same circumference. Add 3-4 cm for the "ears".

The width depends on the damage on the pipe. A rubber patch is also cut out. Only its size should be without “ears”. Tapping with a hammer, bend around the pipe with a cut strip, and bend the “ears” at a right angle with pliers.

Putting them together, drill a hole for the existing bolt. If the width is more than 4 cm, then drill 2 holes, or even 3. Clean the place under the clamp with sandpaper. Put the middle of the cuff on the leak, put a bandage on top of it and tighten it with a bolt and nut.

Now you have detailed instructions on how to make pipe clamps yourself. Such clamps are very reliable and durable, and can serve no less than the pipe itself. So your temporary repair may very well become permanent. Share this helpful article: Related Articles:

At the first signs of pipeline depressurization, it is necessary to quickly find the damaged area and eliminate the identified defect.

When performing emergency emergency work you can use homemade clamps to stop the flow in the pipeline for a while. Ready-made pipe clamps, manufactured at the factory from stainless steel or fire-resistant plastic, are used when performing installation work on the arrangement of heating systems, sewerage, water supply, gas supply. These fasteners allow you to securely fix the position of pipes running along horizontal and vertical surfaces (ceilings, walls), as well as installed on special racks.

In this video experienced master shows how to make a wire clamp:

The design of the simplest clamp

Without exception, all pipe clamps consist of a bandage - a crimping material made by manufacturers of steel, and an internal seal called a cuff. As a sealing material that seals the damaged area, they usually take special corrugated rubber, which helps prevent pipe deformation when the fixing screws are tightened. The presence of a rubber gasket in the design of the product also helps to reduce vibration and noise.

When choosing clamps, pay attention to such product characteristics as:

    inner diameter; bandage width; steel strip thickness.

The tightening range of the clamp varies depending on the size of the fastener element. The main indicators that determine the scope of its application are the strength of the connection and the level of permissible load.

Metal clamps for fastening and repairing pipes of different diameters consist of a steel frame and a seal made of corrugated rubber

Making a collar from improvised materials

Find a strip of galvanized sheet, the thickness of which does not exceed one millimeter, and a piece of three-millimeter rubber. Look in your stock for a couple of bolts (M6, M8 or M10), as well as suitable nuts and washers. Of the tools useful:

    hammer; caliper; wrenches; vice or pliers; scissors for metal, which can be replaced if available with a jigsaw or grinder equipped with appropriate cutting elements; drill and drill bits (M7, M9 or M10, M12).

Use a caliper to determine the pipe diameter. If the diameter of the pipe is large, then take the necessary measurements using a corner and a ruler.

Next, cut the tin frame of the clamp in the form of a strip, the width of which should be 4-8 cm, and the length will have to be calculated. To do this, the circumference of the pipe is determined by multiplying its diameter by 3.14 (the Pi number, familiar to everyone from the school geometry course). 3-4 cm are added to the result obtained, from which “ears” are subsequently made with drilled holes for fixing bolts.

The size of the holes in the "ears" depends on the diameter of the bolts, and if the washers are wide, then you can add an extra 2-3 mm to simplify the mounting of the clamp in the future. If the width of the bandage exceeds 6 cm, then it is recommended to drill holes not for two bolts, but for three.

Mark a line with a marker along which to bend the “ears” at a right angle to the tin strip. This operation can be done manually if the strip is thin. With thicker material, work with a vice or pliers.

Next, the tin is bent around the pipe on which it is planned to put the clamp on, and they try to connect the ears so that the holes drilled in them coincide. If the tin does not bend well, then the strip is tapped with a hammer. A pre-cut rubber gasket, cut out taking into account the width of the bandage, is inserted into the clamp.

Algorithm for installing a clamp on a pipe

Before installing the clamp, the ears are bred to the sides so that they can safely wrap around the pipe.

In this case, the rubber gasket should cover the pipe defect well. If everything was measured correctly, then no more than three centimeters should remain between the ears. This distance will certainly decrease in the process of tightening the clamp with bolts, and this process continues until it is possible to press the rubber seal against the pipe as tightly as possible.

Clamp for fixing leaks in a water pipe or heating system at home it is installed on the place of damage with your own hands within a few minutes

Installation of clamps in most cases is done on a leaking pipe. Shutting off the supply of water, coolant or Wastewater not produced.

Therefore, the effectiveness of the repair will be immediately visible. After wiping the pipe and bandage dry, wait five minutes and make sure that the leak has been fixed. Too long bolts, if necessary, are easily cut with a grinder or a hacksaw.

A properly installed collar can serve for several years, protecting the object from flooding. However, breaks in water supply and heating systems are desirable to weld or replace defective sections with new pipes.

Insertion into the main water supply

When connecting the water supply of a private house to the central water supply system, a mortise pipe clamp is used, which allows you to work under pressure in a short time with the help of specialized professional equipment.

A clamp is installed for tapping into a pipe without pressure by a simple locksmith using a cutter and a pair wrenches. It does not involve the use of a welding machine. In any case, these works are carried out by employees of services serving main water supply in the settlement, if the client has all the permits.

Stages of installing a mortise pipe clamp in the main pipeline. Clamps for tapping into a pipe simplify the work of connecting an object to central water supply systems

Now you know how to make and put a clamp on a water pipe. If the pipeline is damaged, you will be able to fix the problem yourself at least for a while before the arrival of professional plumbers.

The correct functioning of heating and water supply systems is one of the priorities that every homeowner needs to ensure.

In the case of laying new communication lines and high-quality work, this issue may not worry for a long time. However, time is inexorable, and sooner or later, under the influence external factors or the influence of water, the pipes will start to leak. In this regard, let's find out how to put a clamp on the pipe. The technology of carrying out the mentioned works will be discussed further.

Definition and use cases

Before proceeding to a direct consideration of the issue of mounting a clamp on a pipe, it is necessary to understand that this auxiliary element plumbing represents.

A clamp is usually called a special device designed to seal holes in pipes and eliminate leaks. Clamps can also be additionally equipped at the junction of pipeline segments for additional sealing. As for applications, it can be noted: The appearance of fistulas in the pipe wall. This can occur as a result of corrosion on the walls. The appearance of cracks in the pipes. They occur both in violation of the installation rules and as a result of manufacturing defects. The appearance of fractures on the pipes.

This can be observed if the pipe installation technology is violated. The occurrence of a leak at the junction. It can occur as a result of improper installation or natural wear of the seal. As for the device of the element, the clamp consists of two metal half rings connected to each other by bolts and nuts. A rubber seal is usually attached along the inner radius of the clamp, having a width slightly larger than the metal part.

Mounting process

As for the process of installing a clamp, for example, on a heating pipe, everything is quite simple here. Actions for maximum efficiency it is better to carry out in stages: First, it is necessary to block the flow of water (in this case acting as a coolant) into the pipe. Next, the installation site of the clamp must be cleaned and leveled for maximum sealing in the future.

Suitable for these purposes sandpaper, which needs to remove the top layer of paint. Thus, not only the surface is leveled, but the location of the damage will become more clearly visible. After that, a clamp is installed. To do this, the fastening on one side is untwisted, and the half-rings are slightly parted in different directions so that the element can be put on the pipe. In this case, the rubber seal should be positioned so that the place of the leak is located in the middle of the rubber part. Next, the fasteners of the clamp are inserted into the eye holes, and the element is pulled together with the keys.

If all stages of work were carried out correctly, then the leak will be eliminated. This will be most noticeable if the water was not shut off. In addition, it should be added that for additional sealing of the junction inner surface clamp rubber seal can be processed silicone sealant, which after polymerization will give almost complete confidence in the density of the connection.

Clamp manufacturing

If for some reason it is not possible to purchase a clamp in a specialized store, the issue can be resolved using self-manufacturing element.

To do this, do the following: It is necessary to take a strip of galvanized sheet of the required width and a thickness of about 1 mm. Using a flexible tape measure, the circumference of the pipe is measured and 3-4 cm are added to this indicator on each side of the strip necessary for the manufacture of lugs for fastening. The strip obtained earlier, the length is cut off from the sheet and divided into two parts (you can make a single collar from one strip). The blanks are bent to the required shape. The work can be carried out both directly on the spot, and using a pipe segment of the same diameter as a mock-up. On each side of the resulting half-rings, the ears necessary for fastening are bent with the help of pliers. Holes are drilled in them. As a sealant, you can use simple rubber with a thickness of 3 mm or more. The resulting clamp and sealant are mounted in place in the same way as the factory version. quality workmanship and installation will differ little from the factory counterpart, and therefore can be successfully used for installation, for example, on a water pipe. Sometimes a kind of clamp can be used to seal the connection of pipes used in gardening.

For example, the use of irrigation systems of varying complexity is impossible without a tight connection of elements. Such clamps are generally similar in design to the details mentioned above, but lack a sealing element. Regarding how much a water clamp costs, it should be said that the price can vary quite a lot depending on the complexity of the design, the material of manufacture, the manufacturer, and many other factors. As you can see from the foregoing, installing a clamp on a water pipe is too complicated a task for independent implementation. It is important to understand that this is a temporary measure, which is not a panacea, but it is quite suitable as a measure to quickly solve the problem.

Clamp for sewer pipe

Although the liquid pressure in the sewer pipes is much less, the resulting leakage can also cause a lot of trouble. In this case, you can purchase and install clamps for sewer pipes.

For thin-walled plastic sewer pipes, it is better not to use homemade clamps, as they do not have correct form and, instead of solving the issue of elimination, leaks will bring more big problems, in the form of a crack or complete failure of the pipeline.
