Some make plaster slopes, others - plastic. But the simplest and easiest way to install is to install extensions. This simple process takes a professional up to a maximum of two hours, and this despite the fact that you need to wait until the foam dries. Installation can be carried out independently or invite a specialist.

What are add-ons?

Door manufacturers, like various construction stores, along with the door leaf and frame, they always offer to purchase fittings and framing elements: extensions and platbands.

In fact, an extension is a plank with a rectangular section, designed to increase the width of the door frame and bring it into the plane of the wall.

Dobory are made of the massif of wood, MDF, DVP, a chipboard. The covering for the extensions is a thin layer of lamination or veneer, in the case of solid wood, the coating may be absent. LKM must be applied after the installation of the extension. Dobors can be made independently using a grooved board, parquet board or chipboard, if these materials remain after the repair. Dobors are made of two types:

Installation of extensions

The connection of extensions is made in three ways in the form of the letter "P":

with transverse support on racks;

Installing an extension on a metal door

Installing an extension on an entrance metal door is no different from installing extensions on interior doors.

The dobors sit on the foam, which holds them in place. For reliability, it is necessary to attach the extensions to the door frame with glue; liquid nails are perfect for this purpose. The joints of the extensions must be wedged to avoid the appearance of cracks.

When installing door frames, it often becomes necessary to close the rest of the slope with something. Most often, for these purposes, "additions" are used, which can be purchased along with door leafs and cash. However, in most cases, such additional elements require adjustment, since the extension should be attached to the box as tightly as possible, and always strictly according to the size of the visible part of the slope.

with a groove for him,
without groove.

In the first case, the additional element is inserted into the groove of the box with one (long) side, while its second side is loose.

In the second option, the extension will need to be attached to the slope, without fixing to the door frame.

Choice of extensions

Dobors are planks made of laminated MDF. The color of these elements usually matches the color of the door frame and trim. But if you wish, you can always purchase extensions of a different color, if this option is more suitable for the design of your room.

Do not forget that the extensions cover the slopes from three sides - from above and from two sides. In this case, it is desirable that the upper extension be longer than the width of the door, and the vertical extensions rest against it at a right angle.

A variety of width extensions allows you to choose them for slopes of almost any width. The main thing is that the additional element does not turn out to be narrower than necessary. If it is not possible to choose an extension exactly in size, it can be cut. To do this, it is recommended to contact furniture workshops, since in addition you should also order an edge tape sticker on one or two ends of the extension.

Groove extension installation

First, consider how to attach extensions to the door if the door frame has a special groove:

Install and secure the door frame in the opening. You can even hang a door - this will not affect the installation of extensions.
Cut the extensions to length to the required size.
Measure the distance from the outer edge of the wall (slope side) to the door frame in at least three places. If these distances do not match, then the extension will have to be cut in a furniture workshop. On the end of the dobor, to which the platband will be attached, it is also necessary to stick the edge tape there.
Insert the extensions into the grooves of the door frame: first the top horizontal, then the side vertical ones. Dobors should be located strictly at an angle of 90 degrees to the plane of the door frame.
Check if they are horizontal or vertical.
Stick masking tape in 4-5 places along the length of the extension in such a way as to fix it in the desired position with it.
Fill the space between the wall and the extension with mounting foam.
Wait for the foam to harden, cut off the excess that has come out.
Attach trims.

Installation of extensions without a groove

After installing the door in the doorway, it is necessary to measure the remaining unclosed part of the wall (slopes). If the extensions have to be cut along the long side, then it is better to do this also in a furniture workshop. In the same place, order an edge tape sticker from two ends of the extensions (both from the side adjacent to the door frame and from the side of the trim).

If the slopes are not plastered, then the extension should be fixed as follows: take a wooden plank or a small bar and attach it to the slopes in such a way that the extension can be fixed on top of this bar, while maintaining its verticality (horizontal - for the upper extension) and right angle between it and the door frame.

With smooth plastered slopes, you can do without an additional wooden plank, provided that there is no need to leave any space between the extension and the wall.

Attach an extension to the bar.
Fill the remaining space between the wall and the extension with mounting foam. To make the foam harden faster, sprinkle it with water.
Cut off excess cured foam.
Fasten the platbands.

Benefits of using extensions

As you can see, the technology of fixing the extensions allows you to avoid such a tedious procedure as plastering slopes. A properly selected additional element makes the slope smooth and beautiful, no matter how bad the slope looked before. However, if the space between the extension and the wall exceeds 3-4 centimeters, it is better to additionally fix the extension with small wooden bars screwed to the wall.

In cases where you do not have the opportunity to use factory extensions, you can make their man-made "analogue" from laminate or MDF panels. This solution will allow you to perform "divergent" slopes (located not at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the door frame).

Ordinary additional planks look like an ordinary board, and differ from each other in the material from which they are made, in color and in width. On the market there are extensions with a width of 100, 120, 150 and 200 mm.

Telescopic extensions, according to the principle of their installation, are similar to lining. A plank of this type is equipped with a groove on one side and a ridge on the other. There are three ways to mount additional elements on a metal door:

And how to install extensions if there is no groove on the door frame? This is also quite realistic to do on your own, but you will have to very accurately display the ideal cutting line of the plank.

The technology of work looks like this:

First of all, it is necessary to make accurate measurements in several places from the edge of the slope to the installed door block.
Next, you need to carefully cut out the appropriate details.
An edge tape is glued onto the formed sections.
Half-thin nails are hammered into the ends of the overlays in increments of 20-25 cm. The caps are cut at an angle.
Then vertical extensions are nailed, slamming the bar with nails.
The upper overlay is placed on the vertical extensions, after which the right angle is controlled.
The top bar is nailed.
All voids are filled with mounting foam.

Installation on metal doors

By design, the input iron doors not very wide. grooves in metal boxes are absent, so the extensions are installed on a pre-prepared frame, which can be made from wooden bars or drywall aluminum profile. The frame is made strictly according to the level to hide all surface imperfections.

Check the correctness of the cut, it is important that the extension does not protrude beyond the plane of the wall. There should be two such stripes, left and right.

If necessary, cut out one horizontal extension in the same way. Install two horizontal and one vertical extensions with the letter P on top of the door frame and fix them with wedges so that they do not “walk” and move.

After securely fixing the extensions in the opening, seal the gap between the walls and the extensions with mounting foam. Spray the gap with water before using the foam to remove dust and improve foam adhesion. Fill first the vertical and then the horizontal gaps. Mounting foam expands well, so do not apply it in in large numbers.

After the foam has dried, nail the platbands over the wall and extensions.

Another way to install interior door extensions is to directly attach them to the door frame with self-tapping screws at the assembly stage. After that complete construction boxes with extensions are installed in the doorway. However, this method does not allow to fit the door frame to the thickness of the wall with great accuracy, and gaps may appear when installing the platbands.
