DIY device for cutting glass bottles. Bottle glass cutter. How to cut a glass bottle. How to cut a glass bottle evenly? Glass cutter

In the house, as is customary “For good luck”, a lot of dishes that are often used break. This especially applies to glasses. You can easily compensate for their loss if you make your own device for cutting empty bottles, which will allow you to make glasses of the required size yourself.

To create devices for cutting bottles when making glasses you will need:

  • Cutting boards section 100 x 25 mm;
  • glass cutter;
  • liquid polyurethane plastic, which has increased strength, wear resistance, high moisture resistance and resistance to weak solvents;
  • bolts ¼” x 2.5”;
  • wing nuts for bolts;
  • epoxy resin;
  • wood glue;
  • screws;
  • rubber feet.

Step 1: Preparing fixture parts

From scrap boards with a cross-section of 100 x 25 mm, cut two 30 cm sections, one 7.5 cm section and one 7.5 x 3 cm section. Sand the prepared parts. Separate the cutting head from the glass cutter and clean it with a file.

Step 2: Assembling the Slider

Apply wood glue to the long end of the shortest section, glue it to a 7.5 cm long section and tighten with screws. After the glue has dried, in the short part of the slide, drill two holes with a diameter of 6 mm with the centers shifted relative to the ends by 2.5 and 1.5 cm. Screw two bolts into them.

Step 3: Bed Assembly

Lubricate one end of the large part with wood glue, glue the same second part to it vertically and tighten it with screws. After the glue has dried, using the slider holes as a template, drill two holes with a diameter of 6 mm at its edge in the vertical part of the frame and, moving 20 cm, a second pair of holes. Connect the resulting holes with pencil lines, along which, using a jigsaw, cut out grooves for moving the slider bolts. Sand the cut grooves with sandpaper.

Step 4: Assembling the Fixture

Coat the bolt holes in the slide with epoxy and install the bolts into them. Secure the slide with wing nuts approximately 2 ⁄ 3 times the length of the groove. Place the device vertically, and place a bottle on the step from the slide to determine where to attach the glass cutter. Make sure that in this position, when the bottle is pressed against the bed, the glass cutter cuts the bottle. Secure the glass cutter with screws to the identified installation location of the end of the frame. Remember that the location of its installation depends on the diameter of the bottles used. So the assembly is complete!

Step 5: Painting the Fixture

After drying epoxy resin Unscrew the slider and start painting the slider and frame of your device with liquid polyurethane. After the polyurethane has dried, screw the rubber feet to the bottom of the frame for greater stability.

Step 6: Cutting the Bottle

Decide on the height of your new glass and secure the slider in the appropriate place. Press the bottle against the bed with the palm of your hand and rotate the bottle one full turn to create a continuous cut. Boil water and pour boiling water over the cut. The neck of the bottle will bounce off and all that remains is to clean off the sharp edges of the glass with abrasives.

Step 7: Bottle Glass Samples

If you are not satisfied with decorating glasses with one label, then you can wash it off and make frosted patterns on it. The result may be an original gift.

Concluding this post, I would like to remind you that all work with glass requires care and attention.

There are many options for using empty glass bottles to create unusual things. They are often used to make vases, glasses, various lamps and candlesticks. Naturally, in most homemade products, these glass bottles are processed, namely, they are cut. Cutting a bottle smoothly without cracks, chips or additional scratches is not the easiest thing. It is to facilitate this task that this machine for cutting glass bottles was made. It is quite easy to manufacture, and all the materials needed for its assembly are very cheap. Its design makes cutting bottles much easier than most other methods.

Materials that were used to create the glass bottle cutting machine:
-wooden plank
- plastic pipe of small diameter
-glass cutter
- self-tapping screws
-metal ruler
- a guide from a furniture cabinet
-epoxy resin
- L-shaped bracket
- several neodymium magnets
- a piece of felt
Manufacturing Description of Glass Bottle Cutting Machine:

Step one: Platform.

A wooden board will serve as a platform for the machine. It should be thick and wide enough for ease of use.

Having cut a ring on the bottle, you need to warm it slightly over a candle, then rub it with ice and the bottle should split exactly along the cut line. If this does not work right away, then you should repeat the procedure. This process is clearly demonstrated in the images below.

The AlexGyver channel created a video on how to make a small device for precise cutting of cans, bottles and other glass containers. Moreover, if you use this machine carefully, you can get an almost perfect cut as a result.

To begin with, we will need a piece of lining about 30 centimeters long and a block of 19×19 millimeters in cross-section. Using a hacksaw, you need to cut out a part approximately 40, 45 millimeters long. The resulting piece of wood is able to fit quite tightly into the groove of the lining and move freely. As you may have guessed, you will need a glass cutter, which will be fixed in a 40x40 mm beam at a slight angle. And it will be attached to the lining using a metal corner. Position the glass cutter and mark its position on the block using a marker. Along this line, accordingly, at an angle you will need to drill the block, therefore, move the drilling point to the front part.
The diameter of the glass cutter is approximately 9 and a half mm, and in order for it to hold tighter in the hole, I will drill with a 9 mm drill. I decided to disassemble the glass cutter so as not to damage it while hammering it into the hole. You need to hammer it in approximately to this depth. I made a small mistake when hammering the glass cutter into the block, so screwing the head back in is not very convenient for me. Keep this in mind if you do this.
Now, using self-tapping screws, secure the corner to the block. Saw off the excess part. Using a ruler, draw a long line in the center of the lining groove. Drill at a distance from the edge big hole. Using a jigsaw, make a long slot in the groove of the clapboard. Widen the gap so that the M3 bolt fits into it. On a scrap tin can, mark 2 holes at a distance of 25 millimeters. Drill holes and remove sharp edges of chips with a drill bit larger diameter. Mark and drill the same 2 holes in the 19x19 lumber.
Next we need 2 wings for an M3 bolt, 2 M3 bolts 40 mm long, 2 washers for an M3 bolt, a block and a piece of a tin can. Let's assemble the structure.
The result is a movable structure that can be easily fixed with the help of wings. Now it's time to attach the block with the glass cutter to the lining.
Next, look at the video from 4 minutes.

How to cut a glass bottle evenly? Glass cutter

I found a way to cut a glass bottle evenly. Maybe someone will find it useful for the New Year holidays.

The cutting principle itself is simple, we cut, as usual, with a glass cutter, which is available in every home; if not, then you can buy it for mere pennies at a hardware store.
Any glass cutter will do, even the cheapest Chinese one.
But you won’t be able to just cut it evenly with your hands, because making a cut along the surface of a round bottle, and even evenly, is problematic.
To make an even cut, you will have to make a simple device that even a housewife can make.
Let’s not pound water in a mortar, but move on to a step-by-step analysis of this device.
To make the device, we need two boards measuring 150 x 100 mm, 20 mm thick.
We give one board a bottle-shaped shape, first mark it, then cut it out.
We fasten the planks together at right angles. We do this using PVA glue and screws. First, lubricate the surfaces of the boards to be joined with glue, then press the boards against each other, and then tighten them with screws.

The bottle-shaped board will be positioned vertically and will serve as the basis for attaching the glass cutter.
The rectangular board is positioned horizontally and the bottle will be placed on it.
For cutting you will need two clamps. Using one clamp, we attach the device to the edge of the table. If we cut the bottle in a workshop, then it is easier to screw the device to the workbench with screws, then a clamp will not be needed.
We fasten the glass cutter with a second clamp.
Depending on the location of the cut on the bottle, we choose the place of fastening on the bottle-shaped board; we can fasten it both from above and from the side.

IN this option In the picture the glass cutter is attached to the side. For a more elastic effect of the clamp on the glass cutter, place an eraser under it (an ordinary office eraser for erasing lines from a simple pencil on a piece of paper).
We place the bottle on the device, press its surface against the cutting part of the glass cutter, and rotate the bottle around its axis. The glass cutter cuts the bottle in a circle.
But it will not be possible to simply divide a cut bottle into two parts.
First you need to spill the bottle over the cut area. hot water, then cold. Next, divide the bottle into two parts with your hands.
When the bottle is cut, take sandpaper and grind the sharp edge of the cut so that in the future, when using the halves of the bottle, you do not injure your hands.

Naturally in the majority homemade These glass bottles are processed, namely they are cut. Cutting a bottle smoothly without cracks, chips or additional scratches is not the easiest thing. It is to facilitate this task that this machine for cutting glass bottles was made. It is quite easy to manufacture, and all the materials needed for its assembly are very cheap. Materials that were used to create the glass bottle cutting machine:
-wooden plank
- plastic pipe of small diameter
-glass cutter
- self-tapping screws
-metal ruler
- a guide from a furniture cabinet
-epoxy resin
- L-shaped bracket
- several neodymium magnets
- a piece of felt

Manufacturing Description of Glass Bottle Cutting Machine:

Step one: Platform.

A wooden board will serve as a platform for the machine. It should be thick and wide enough for ease of use.

By cutting or taking a ready-made piece of board, you can coat it with varnish so that in the future the instrument will have a more presentable appearance.

Step two: Rollers.

Next, we took a plastic tube of small diameter, from which two pieces were cut. Holes were made in these pieces of pipe, each with 2 through holes at the edges. Through these holes, the tubes will be attached to the machine platform and act as a kind of rollers, since the glass bottle will easily slide over the plastic. The upper holes of each of the tubes were enlarged so that it would be convenient to fasten the tubes with self-tapping screws through them.

To avoid unnecessary scratches during subsequent cutting of bottles, it is necessary to carefully clean all burrs on the tubes.

Step three: work on the glass cutter.

Next, the author began work on the next component of the machine, namely the cutter.

To make the cutter, a standard glass cutter was taken. The handle of the glass cutter was sawed off as unnecessary, and two holes were also made to secure it to a wooden plank.

Step Four: Guide.

Then a guide was taken from an ordinary furniture drawer. In order for it to serve in the design of the future machine, a milling cutter was made for each of the holes along its edges, so that the heads of the screws were reliably hidden. After all, when working on glass bottles, every scratch can ruin it.

Step Five: Assembly

Then the author began assembling the resulting main components for the machine. A glass cutter was screwed to the board, and tubes were also attached. Everything was done as shown in the photographs. The distance between the tubes should be chosen such that when placing a bottle on them, there is enough space left from its surface to the surface of the board itself, and the bottle should be securely fixed between the tubes when pressed.

The glass cutter must be fastened in such a way that when pressing and twisting the bottle, a thin line remains on it. If you get too many chips, or if it only slightly scratches the bottle, you should change the location of the glass cutter.

The easiest way is to use a test waste bottle to find the optimal position.

The main thing is not to overdo it with pressure on the bottle, as it may burst.

Step six: Attaching the guide.

Then the prepared guide is attached between the tubes. To make it convenient to measure the cut of bottles directly on the machine, the author decided to attach a metal ruler to this guide. To do this, the ruler was cut to the length of the guide and glued with epoxy glue. Then a load was placed on it until the glue dried completely.

Step seven: Locking slider.

To ensure that the bottle did not move while scrolling and its cut was fairly even, the author decided to make a limiting slider.
For these purposes, an L-shaped bracket, several strong neodymium magnets and a piece of felt were used.

Having placed the magnets on one of the parts of the bracket, the author wrapped them in felt and attached them to an iron ruler. Since there should not be strong pressure on the bottle, such a slider design will be able to hold it in the desired position.

Step eight: testing the machine.

Now you need to check the resulting bottle cutting machine.

Thanks to the ruler and magnetic slider, cutting the bottle occurs quite smoothly, although of course a lot depends on the accuracy of the user himself. Therefore, it’s worth first practicing on unnecessary bottles.
