How to fill a gasoline lighter with regular gasoline. Why can't you fill the lighter completely?

In this article I will tell you how you can extend the life of a lighter that does not have a gas filling valve.
To do this, we need an empty disposable piezo lighter, gas spray with a set of adapters, two matches and tweezers.

We start by disassembling the lighter, remembering the location of the parts.

We take matches and sharpen their tips with a knife a little.

We put the bracket in place and slip matches under it.

This is how we raise gas valve. We select an adapter that fits tightly on the tip of the valve, and remove the lighter with matches for 10-15 minutes in the freezer of the refrigerator. By freezing the lighter, we will achieve a better flow of gas when refueling. We take out the lighter from the refrigerator and immediately proceed to refueling.

Attention! Refueling should be carried out away from sources of open fire. With one hand we put a can of gas on the valve and press it. We withstand 10-20 seconds and, without releasing the can, pull out the matches with the other hand. Next, remove the can and proceed to the assembly of the lighter.
We wrap the adjusting screw almost to the stop. We put all the details in place and check the height of the flame.

This method of filling the lighter can withstand about 6-8 times. Then the valve wears out and begins to "poison" the gas. Silicon lighters can also be filled in this way. But if you have to remove the flint and the wheel, then it is difficult to put them back in place after refueling.

It is not simple fashion accessory. This is a high-quality and durable lighter that will serve its owner for many years.

But, as with any good accessory, the lighter needs care. First of all, the lighter must be regularly refueled. But how do you fill a Zippo lighter?

Start by purchasing lighter fluid. Some mistakenly believe that filling a branded lighter with any flammable liquid is beneficial. However, only genuine Zippo fuel will give you an accurate guarantee of lighter durability and bad smell. If you already have liquid, then read our instructions on how to refuel a Zippo lighter.

  1. Remove the lighter from the case. This can be done as follows: firmly holding the flint wheel with two fingers with one hand, gently, with a little effort, remove the metal part of the case. If you are refilling the lighter for the first time, disassembling it in this way will not be difficult for you.
  2. Raise the bottom corner of the valve. It has the inscription “Lift to fuel”, which translates as “raise for refueling”. It's important to be careful here.
  3. Start filling the cotton wool with gasoline. Fill slowly, never overfill. If the purchased liquid comes in a large bottle, pour it into a smaller container for convenience.
  4. Avoid dripping gasoline on your hands as this can cause skin damage. If you spill gasoline on your hands, wash them with soap and water.
  5. After assembly, set the lighter aside for a few minutes so that it is sufficiently soaked.

Refilling a Zippo lighter: how to check the effect?

In order to find out if the lighter has been filled correctly, it is necessary to check it (preferably indoors). Open the lid of the lighter, hold it on the weight, slightly lifting it up, gently turn the wheel until the fire appears. In the event that the Zippo refueling was successful, no failures should occur.

If there are any problems, try to determine what you did wrong, read again how to properly refill Zippo (Zippo), and if necessary, repeat the procedure again, or replace the flint or Zippo wick.

Features when refueling Zippo

It must be taken into account that Zippo gas station has its own characteristics, the knowledge of which will help you avoid mistakes that can lead to breakage of the lighter.

  1. It is recommended to use only Zippo branded materials (wicks, fuel, flint) when refilling, as they are guaranteed to fit a quality branded lighter. You can easily buy these products in our store. We are sure you will like our pricing policy.
  2. It is very important that after filling the Zippo, wipe the lighter thoroughly with a dry cloth in case you accidentally drop gasoline on the Zippo. The cost of a mistake can be high! For your own safety, do not fill the lighter alone and have fire-fighting items ready, such as a clean and damp handkerchief.
  3. Make sure your lighter fuel container is at a safe distance before checking fuel quality.
  4. When refueling, do not rush, it is very important to accurately calculate the amount required fuel to avoid accidentally overfilling the Zippo fuel chamber. And in this case, it's not just about saving. Lighters of this class are very gentle and require special treatment. Having overfilled the chamber, it is likely that this accessory will become completely unusable.

By the way, since you have dismantled your lighter for refueling, you can clean it from dirt at the same time. This will affect not only its appearance, but also its performance.

Even though the rules for how to fill a Zippo lighter may seem overwhelming, the whole process won't take you more than five minutes. So that you can verify this and see clearly the process of refueling such a popular accessory, we suggest you watch a short video.

Detailed instructions on how to fill a Zippo lighter (Zippo)

If your favorite Zippo lighter runs out of gas, don't rush to throw it away. She will continue to be able to please the owner with her bright fire, if she is refueled. Below is step-by-step instruction, which will make it clear how to properly refuel a zippo lighter.

Be sure to inspect the lighter from all sides and the place where the refueling process took place. Check if you have spilled gasoline anywhere - otherwise it may catch fire, because Zippo fuel liquid is highly flammable.

If you have already inadvertently splashed yourself with fuel, immediately wash with soap and water the parts of the body that have come into contact with the liquid. Avoid contact with eyes. To do this, try not to touch them and do not wipe them while refueling the lighter. It is recommended to use closed clothing and gloves during the process of refueling the lighter. Safety is paramount.

At first glance, refueling Zippo lighters seems to be a fairly simple process, but you must strictly follow the instructions and follow each step of refueling in the indicated sequence. You are dealing with fire, so be extremely careful and follow the safety rules.

Zippo fuel fluid is completely natural, and therefore tends to evaporate relatively quickly, which continues even when the lighter is not in use. When going on a long trip, it is recommended to refuel the product before departure just in case.

To feel absolutely safe, you can purchase cases from the new collection from Zippo. The main material used in their manufacture is genuine leather. Cases not only guarantee the safety of the owner, protect the product from scratches, but also look great, giving the lighters even more solidity.

How to properly refuel a Zippo lighter: gasoline

For refueling, you can use special gasoline. Automotive gasoline is not recommended because its combustion temperature is too high, which means you will need to change the filter frequently.
Refilling zippo lighters has one trick. The gas cylinder can be used several times, but after each refueling, the pressure inside it will decrease. Therefore, before proceeding directly to this process, you need to hold the lighter for some time in freezer, which will make it possible to fill it in a larger volume.

If you still don't understand how to fill a Zippo lighter or just want to see how the process is done in practice before you start it yourself, you can watch the video below.

When a combustible substance runs out in a lighter, questions immediately arise about replacing the item. Just do not rush, because first you should think about how to fill the lighter with gas or other combustible substance.

Security measures

Before direct work, you should think about your safety, as well as about the people and objects around you. To do this, you should pay attention to some nuances and rules.

Safety:

Well ventilated area. When the lighter is filled with gas or other substance, it may leak. In this case, it is necessary to ventilate the room as soon as possible.

No fire or sources of ignition.

Skin and eye protection. It is better to wear closed clothes, and gloves on your hands.

Do not use the entire space of the lighter. The gas in it is under pressure, so overfilling can lead to an explosion.

Refueling with a gas bottle

When a safe place to work is prepared, skin and eyes are safe, you can start talking about how to fill a lighter with gas. Actually, there won't be big problems. It is also worth saying a few words about the convenience during work, as well as the absence of objects that can interfere with the process.

On the back of the lighter is special valve, which, in fact, is intended for this process. It is also worth noting the fact that it can be clogged with various garbage from the pocket. Therefore, it needs to be cleaned. It is advisable to use a sharp object. It is necessary to press this valve until a characteristic sound appears, indicating the release of gas.

Now it remains to pick up a can of gas and proceed to direct refueling. It is worth mentioning right away the fact that there are different valves, so you must first select the appropriate adapter. These items come with all cans.

Now a few words about how to properly fill lighters with gas from a technical point of view. During the process, the lighter must be in such a position that the valve is at the top. Accordingly, the gas cylinder - outlet down. After making sure of this, it is necessary to press on the lighter and hold for no more than 7-10 seconds. During this time, it will be filled. In no case should you check the item immediately after refueling. 3-4 minutes is enough for the pressure in it to normalize.

Refueling disposable lighters

Most people think that disposable lighters Can't be filled with canned gas. It's just that it's actually a little different. It is possible to do this, but with some difficulty. Therefore, it is worth touching on the topic of how to fill a lighter with gas through the outlet.

To begin with, the refillable item must be placed in the refrigerator for a short time. After that, put two matches into the outlet, where the front of the lever is located. Now you can start refueling, as with a lighter with a special valve.

Refueling a petrol lighter

This type of lighter is the most expensive and original, so many people often encounter direct refueling of these assistants in getting fire. Above there was a conversation about how to refuel a lighter with gas, and now it’s worth mentioning refueling with gasoline.

It is worth noting immediately that this moment available a large number of species gasoline lighters. Therefore, "reanimating" your assistant, you have to think a little. Now we will consider this process using the example of the most common mechanism - Zippo ("Zippo").

These lighters consist of a body and an inner part. To refuel Zippo, you need to get its insides. On this part there is a felt pad, bending which you can see the fleece. Actually, it needs to be soaked in gasoline. During work, care should be taken so that the substance does not spill.

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on the purchase of an excellent ZIPPO lighter. After all, if you, dear reader, have come across this article, then most likely you have a ZIPPO and do not yet know how to properly fill it with gasoline. And since this brand is not just famous, but mega / super / very famous, it would be a sin not to congratulate. We hope that the ZIPPO lighter will serve you for a long time, which, in fact, we do not even doubt.

Beauty, right?

This time we bring to your attention a brief photo review on how to properly refuel a lighter. well-known brand ZIPPO. Naturally, photos alone will not be enough, so we wrote a full-fledged article about this simple, but still responsible, process. So let's go.

The gasoline container looks huge compared to the lighter itself. But you can be sure - you will have enough gasoline from such a capacity for a year for sure.

Safety

Before you fill your ZIPPO lighter, remember: gasoline is flammable, the house or apartment is expensive, the renovation has just been done, and so on. We are leading to the fact that it is forbidden to refuel near a fireplace, stove or candle, and it’s better not to tempt fate. Unfortunately, many people naively believe that nothing bad will happen. Maybe so, but why take the risk? Gasoline vapors ignite much faster than you think.

Refueling lighterZIPPO: step-by-step photo review

First of all, I would like to note that everywhere and everywhere it is strongly recommended to use only branded ZIPPO gasoline. If you purchased a lighter in a company store, then you will be advised in it the original gasoline from the manufacturer and, as a rule, you should not expect deception. Look at the photo: judging by the code, a bottle of gasoline came to us from the USA, ZIPPO is produced there, therefore, in our case, a fake is excluded.

Many sites recommend using anything as long as you don't buy gas from ZIPPO. Our advice is this: you can fill your lighter with either rose nectar or cologne. Is it just necessary to do it? You bought (or gave you) really worthwhile thing, so why spoil it prematurely?

And here is a photo of the ZIPPO lighter itself:

In fairness, let's say that a line from a song by Vladimir Semenovich Vysotsky was engraved after the purchase of a lighter. The owner is a big fan of the bard, so grins like “do Americans really know Russian so well” are excluded.

Now you need to fill the lighter with gasoline. And here the already mentioned bottle comes to the rescue, where everything is demonstrated on both sides with a drawing and an inscription in English. It only remains for us to translate these inscriptions for you and add something of our own.

The first inscription tells us that the vial needs to be opened. The following is a hint related directly to the preparation of the lighter for refueling. To do this, you need to take out inner part, turn it over, lift the felt and pour fuel. After that, install the “insides” back, wait a few seconds and you can use ZIPPO for its intended purpose. But this is short, let's take a better look at the quality photos and clear things up a bit more.

So, to open the valve of a bottle of gasoline, you need to raise the white watering can vertically. If you look closely at the photo, you will notice that this same watering can is sunk deep and the idea comes to mind to use something sharp and thin. Nothing like this! Take a look at the photo:

The ZIPPO developers have already decided everything - you don’t need any additional tricks, just use the lighter lid, as we did in the photo above. We will only warn you about one thing in advance for the second time: gasoline burns and is very bright, so after opening you should not strike matches nearby or use another open source of fire.

Now we take out the inside of our lighter. All it takes is two hands and a little effort. The photograph captures the moment of pulling out.
We warn you that the effort is really insignificant, but at the first pulling out it can be noticeable. You should not be afraid and stop, looking for a non-existent screw will also be superfluous. Just keep pulling the outer case and the inner tank apart.

Next, we advise you to install the tank back, but only upside down. This may not be done, but when refueling, fuel often leaks out through the wick hole and can get on your clothes, hand, or somewhere else. And again, it is better to worry about safety. The photo shows how it will look.

Pay attention to the inscription "Lift to fill", which is repeated three times on the felt lining. For those who are not friends with English, we translate: "Raise to fill."
So we do it: we lift the felt (a pin, a needle, a toothpick or something similar to these items will come in handy) and pour gasoline inside.

This is where the moment comes that interests many, if not all - but how much gasoline should be poured when refueling? Pour a little - you will have to fill it up soon. Pour a lot of gasoline - so part of it will leak through the hole for the wick. Some advise pouring and counting to ten, others measure gasoline with a syringe, others do everything by eye. We admit that we chose the last option, because we ourselves did not know how to refuel lighter ZIPPO.
But, having spilled fuel, we decided that it was better to find a better way out for an accurate dosage. And you know what - it's pointless to look for such a way out! If the first refueling will require about 5 “cubes” of gasoline, then you will most likely carry out all subsequent refueling by eye. After all, you need to drive off for a few days and you decide to refuel the lighter even before the fuel in it completely runs out. Either the fire will seem too weak to you, or you will simply play it safe - you will never or almost never “guess” the exact amount of fuel required for refueling. And waiting for all the gasoline to be used up, you see, is a very stupid thing to do. Well, as an option, it’s too undignified to fiddle with an empty ZIPPO in your hands, and only because they didn’t want to refuel in advance. To have such a little thing and not smoke in a restaurant or even just on the street is already no good. Practice will show how much full refueling is enough for you, and then you will already approximately know the amount of fuel needed for your ZIPPO.

And a few words in the end..

Fun fact: you can easily find out when your ZIPPO was made. Look at the bottom of the case: original lighters there will definitely be a corporate logo, the city of Bradford and the state of Pennsylvania are indicated - this is where they produce this product.
But you can decipher the date of manufacture on both sides of the logo. The letter will be on the left English alphabet(A - January, B - February, C - March, and so on), and the year of manufacture will be stamped on the right. The photo shows that our lighter was released in August 2013.

It has been 3 months since using the lighter. During this time, it was found that:

  • one refill of Zippo lasts about a week (if you smoke a pack a day)
  • it is better to carry a lighter in a pocket where there is nothing extraneous in the form of keys, coins, etc. — appearance quickly "fly off"
  • it is advisable to buy flint in advance - the first one ended after about a month and a half
  • although Zippo does not go out in the wind, nevertheless, in windy weather, the flame “leaves” to the side and you have to cover the lighter with your hand - otherwise it’s difficult to smoke
  • the lighter is just perfect if you need to highlight, but there is no flashlight nearby. A trifle, but nice.

Other than the original fuel? and then sho is not budgetary ....

Schnapps 23-10-2015 20:30

besides the original one, you can fill up with Newport (England), it’s cheaper. Once it pressed in Norilsk 92, it refuels and smokes, but it lights up as it should, there was no taste when lighting up. You can use alcohol, but it evaporates faster. this cotton wool is inside. They say you can still use kerosene but have not tried it.

User Drone 23-10-2015 20:37

Gasoline nefras or its analogue galosh is sold in household stores.

me for household purposes, so how it smokes and with what flavor it burns on the side, I have plenty of alcohol, so I’m thinking of switching to it, just because of the lack of knowledge in this area I don’t want to damage the chik-fire.

Bonifatich 23-10-2015 23:49

Are you frying an egg on it, that buying native gasoline can really hit your pocket?
Newport really can. Alcohol is too volatile.
All sorts of ersatz mixtures smoke and stink.

PROTECTOR 24-10-2015 09:11

no, Zippo is a fetish, and besides, it already exists, + it’s comfortable to wear, and wind resistance is relevant to me, but in principle, can you kill it with low-quality fuel, or does it give a fuck?

iluhaM 24-10-2015 11:12

There is cotton wool and a wick of cloth with copper wire what can be killed there? Primitive everything

Hexane or heptane.
In chemical stores.
Or I can pour

Ursvamp 26-10-2015 17:24

Refined naphtha is needed. In a country that blows oil into the oceans and synthesizes pools of gasoline and kerosene, one has to buy English Newport - pichalco. However, even Russian gas for lighters cannot be used so as not to spoil the device.
The galosh burns well but evaporates rather quickly. Therefore, we are looking for naphtha, or, as correctly noted above, one of its constituents is hexane or heptane.

ZEE 28-10-2015 12:27

No special options.
What would burn normally and not refuel for a long time, only native benz. And then the lottery ((One holds a couple of three days, the other a week and a half. It is clear which of them is more original))
It burns on any benzo (including 80 and 92), it only smokes "on black" and you need to "pull" it sharply and often to extract the fire)) and quickly disappears.
A non-original lighter may not ignite at all from gasoline 92 and below, this is true.
With what it is connected, it is difficult to say. Everything is as simple as bayonet shovel. But, nevertheless, a fact. Relatives eat everything, fakes can sneeze from good benz.
Experience of personal possession and use different models and modifications for about 24-25 years.

I will support the previous posts, if you want to use the lighter without problems - original gasoline. I used nefras for one or two gas stations, then I waited for a long time until the lighter "sneezes" on normal gasoline. My advice is not to save, or switch to matches.

For a long time, it was, before I switched to a pipe (then only matches) - I had a set of branded and not very Zipps. So, the best in this set was the gasoline Ronson. It ignited 18 times in a row, and the STD was only 8-10.
Sorry for the OFF

Well, you can’t spoil it, but the fact that it burns worse is a fact. I bought a gas cylinder, Omsk production. The seller praised, good gas, ours, Russian. After refueling lighters, you have to unscrew the flame regulator, because it barely burns. There was no such garbage with the previous Chinese balloon.

You can try to buy in chem. store and fill up with heavy petroleum ether, as well as instrument naphtha. White spirit smells and smokes a little, especially at the end of burnout. Kerosene is really bad. Fuel gasoline due to additives is also not good. Yes, he is flying almost like a galosh.
