However, everyone adapts the sharpening angle for themselves, because for soft wood in summer time It is better to reduce it to 35°, but for sawing in winter or for dry wood it is better to stick to 50° when sharpening. The longest saws (1500 mm and 1750 mm) were produced for sawing lumber. The teeth in such tools have a complex shape - between two M-shaped (Kremlin) cleaning teeth there are several simple ones, characteristic of cross saws. They are sharpened and bred accordingly. Such teeth cut the fibers in the cut, and M-shaped cleaning teeth remove pieces of wood from the cut.
To sharpen and set such a saw correctly, you need to be a real ace in this matter, because for proper operation teeth of complex shape should be a fraction of a millimeter higher than usual.
If this difference is not taken into account and all teeth are reduced to the same height, then the M-shaped elements will tear the wood, thereby making cutting difficult. If the difference turns out to be too large, then the cleaning teeth will not remove sawdust from the cut well.
How to work with a two-handed tool: subtleties of the process
In villages, such saws are still used to this day for cutting firewood; from the outside it seems like a fairly simple task. Pull one at a time, that's the whole process. However, as soon as a beginner stands on one side of “Friendship-2”, he will feel the character of the saw. Every now and then it will jam and bend, tear the wood and get stuck in the cut, but just now, in other hands, it was sawing like a darling... That’s right - it’s not the saw! During the sawing process, you just need to guide the tool; it will do the rest itself. You cannot press or push the canvas, as this will cause it to jam.
For convenience, the log or other material that you are going to saw should be secured on the sawhorses in such a way that the area that we are going to saw off hangs above the ground. Ideally, one of the sawers should be slightly higher than his partner, for example, on a pallet - due to the bevel, the saw cuts through a solid one in one stroke, as for hand tools, plot. Once upon a time, with the help of such a tool, they even cut logs into boards, however, they cost a lot, due to the high labor intensity of the work.
How to turn “Friendship-2” into “Friendship-1” - we saw it alone!
Alas, the right friend, who is also a cutting partner, is not always nearby. And working alone with a two-handed instrument is a real mockery of the nerves. However, nothing prevents you from turning a two-handed instrument into a rather massive and heavy one, but still a one-handed one! Namely - .
Usually the handles on saws are not particularly secured - there is no need for this, and it will be inconvenient to sharpen. Instead, you need to insert long sticks, between which we insert them across the rail the right size so that they do not break under pressure. We connect the tops of the sticks with a rope, which we twist like a tourniquet, ensuring high tension of the canvas. Thanks to this device, the two-handed tool has become completely independent of two people, and is quite suitable for working in splendid isolation.
Sharpening a saw - what is the secret to sharpness?
Sharpening a two-handed tool is no different from sharpening. Except that the teeth are larger, but it’s even more convenient for work. For sharpening we need a triangular file, a template for the correct setting of the teeth and homemade vice. Since the blade is large, and an ordinary vice will not suit us, we should build from two boards, selected to the size of the saw, and four legs the desired design. The boards will act as a vice - between them we will clamp the canvas, tightly twisting the boards with a rope, and in order not to bend low, this simple system can be placed on legs.
First, check the height of all the teeth - there should be no protruding or sinking elements. Protruding teeth should be ground down with a flat file to the level of the rest, but do not forget that the height of the tooth itself from the base to the tip should remain the same! Therefore, after grinding off its top, you need to make cuts deep into the blade at the base of the teeth. When grinding, it is recommended to attach a file to wooden block, which you will hold with your hands - this way the likelihood of injury to your hands and fingers is much lower.
When all the teeth are brought to the same height, start setting them, this is necessary to ensure a wider cut in which the blade can easily pass. To set, you need to move the teeth alternately to the left and then to the right, and it is very important to set them at the same angle to the blade itself. To do this, they make or buy special metal strips with stops - with this tool you will be able to bend all the teeth under the right angle. It is recommended to spread 1 mm thicker than the canvas itself or half a millimeter on each side. This operation will not need to be carried out very often - once every 5-6 sharpenings.
When the wiring is finished, you can start sharpening. To do this, bring the file to the cutting edge and move it away from you until you achieve the desired result. Follow safety rules - start moving the file only when it is already lying on the edge, and not in a big way. If you are distracted, you can run into sharp teeth with your hand! Go over one side of each piece first, then move to the other side and repeat sharpening. Please note that the teeth have different edges - the short ones separate the wood fibers, and the side ones cut, resulting in a quick, easy and accurate cross cut.
A technique such as the Friendship chainsaw will never lose its relevance. Despite the fact that gasoline models are increasingly being replaced by electric chainsaws, the demand for Friendship is reluctantly falling. The overall design of the saw has not changed significantly over time, only individual parts have been modified. The number at the end of the model name indicates its power, for example, Druzhba 2 - 2 hp. Model 4A, produced until the 80s, already used a contact magneto and a KMP-100 carburetor. Automatic chain lubrication was also used for the first time. In the 90s, the previous carburetor was replaced with a new KMP-100U. Chain Saw began to be called Druzhba-4M and was equipped with updated chains. The Druzhba-2 chainsaw is powered by a two-stroke single-cylinder engine with a power of about 2.2 kW and a rotation speed of 3200 rpm. Friendship-4
The Friendship 4 chainsaw uses the same engine as the previous model, but with more power – 4 hp. or 2.94 kW. The engine and power unit are installed using a flange connection secured with a clamp. If necessary (repair, replacement), the engine can be easily removed in any conditions. Based on the Druzhba 4 saw, two modifications were produced, marked 4A and 4E. The first one added an automatic lubrication system saw chain, and the second used electronic ignition. The shortcomings of previous models were also taken into account, for example, the crankshaft bearing was strengthened. All versions were produced with an emergency braking system.
The Friendship 4M-Electron chainsaw uses a similar engine with a power of 2.94 kW and a rotation speed of 5200 rpm. The cylinder is made of aluminum alloy, and internally treated with chrome to increase wear resistance. Do not use leaded gasoline as fuel or run the saw in a confined space.
Thanks to its simple design, you can repair the Druzhba chainsaw yourself. For example, saws of this brand often have problems with ignition, especially if a contact one is installed. It is extremely sensitive to various oils and gasoline. Therefore, it is better to purchase electronic ignition instead. Moreover, contact spare parts for the friendship chainsaw are expensive and irreplaceable.
If the spark plugs are heavily flooded, you should pay attention to the carburetor. In this case, it is necessary to bend the gasoline valve slightly inward; as a result, the amount of fuel supplied will decrease and the spark plugs will stop getting wet.

Any chainsaw is equipped with a two-stroke carburetor engine and two tanks: one for filling fuel mixture, the other - oil for chain lubrication). The volume of the fuel tank is from 0.3 to 1 liter, and the volume of the oil tank is usually 1.5-2 times less. This volume ratio is designed specifically to ensure that the chain lubrication oil and fuel mixture run out approximately simultaneously, namely after 30-45 minutes of operation at full load.
Gasoline. Chainsaws require gasoline with an octane rating of 92 or higher, with a density in the range of 750-770 kg/m3. The purity of gasoline should be: 
· mechanical – to settle and store gasoline for use not in metal containers and for no longer than 1 (one) month, otherwise it will oxidize and lose its properties;
· chemical – impurities and additives should not be present (they have different speed, degree and temperature of combustion). Old gasoline turns yellow or red, and the impurities have a strong smell of bitterness (for example, creosote) or acid (for example, methyl alcohol).
Oil. Be sure to use branded oils. Since each manufacturer adds special additives to the oil for its piston group. Under no circumstances should you use motorcycle oils (low engine speeds) or watercraft oils (other cooling systems) - their use does not provide the necessary lubrication of the piston group and parts of the entire engine. Typically, the oil content in the mixture should be 1/50 or 20 ml/cm3 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. For example, in transparent plastic bottle(1 l) pour in half a measure of gasoline, then add oil with a medical syringe (20 ml/cm3) and mix, add gasoline and mix thoroughly. The proportions of the fuel mixture must be strictly observed, but if the quality of gasoline is questionable or the working conditions are difficult, then the amount of oil can be increased to 22-25 ml/cm3. Shake the mixture before each filling! Store the resulting fuel for no more than two weeks! If the color of the mixture has changed (from the color sea wave turned, for example, brown), then it is not recommended to use it!
Chainsaw friendship - instruction manual
Depreservation of the friendship chainsaw: Reactivate the chainsaw in a warm room at a temperature not lower than 15-20°C in the following order: 1. Remove the spark plug, remove the muffler and carburetor (without disconnecting the throttle control cable).
2. Pour 50-100 cm3 of pure gasoline into the cylinder and crankcase through the hole for the spark plug and the suction pipe of the cylinder and turn the crankshaft 10-15 revolutions to remove oil from the cylinder and crankcase. 3. Wash the spark plug, muffler and carburetor in gasoline, dry them and put them in place. Remove the grease from the outer surfaces of the remaining parts and components of the saw with a rag moistened with gasoline and wipe dry. When re-opening the chainsaw, do not allow oil, gasoline and dirt to get into the fan, magneto parts, high voltage wire and capacitor socket.
If oil gets on the contacts of the breaker (there is no spark), clean them with a file by removing the deflector, fan housing and flywheel. Remove the flywheel using the puller insert supplied with the chain saw. Preparation: Attention! On chainsaws sealed in a single cardboard container, the gearbox is not attached to the engine. To assemble the saw you need to: attach the gearbox to the engine, for which you unscrew the clamping screw of the frame clamp segments, install the gearbox on the benzoyl engine, frame, clamp between the clamp segments, tighten the clamp using the clamping screw and lever. To avoid engine damage, starting it without an attached gearbox is strictly prohibited.
To stop the saw motor: 
1. Lower the throttle control lever. 2. Slightly pull or press the carburetor enrichment button until the engine stops completely. 3. Close the fuel valve. Running in a new chain saw: when working with a new saw at the beginning of its operation, all its rubbing surfaces are intensively run in.
Recommended, break-in new saw spend on Idling with short-term re-gassing until 2-3 tanks of fuel are used up. To protect the engine from overloads during the first 25-30 hours of operation, a restrictor ring is installed above the carburetor throttle, so during this period, avoid engine overheating and clutch slipping. Do not remove the restrictor ring before 25-30 hours of operation. After removing the restrictive ring, adjust the throttle until it is fully open, if necessary, move the cable in the lever and secure it with a screw, then check the gas adjustment for the minimum stable speed of the chainsaw engine at idle.
