What should be the opening for installing an interior door. How to choose the size of a standard interior door Standard door size

At major renovation or during construction, everything needs to be taken into account - even the width and height of the doors. Dimensions doorways, of course, can be arbitrary, but then you will always be forced to make doors to order. It's easier to comply with the regulations - less costs and problems. Standard sizes interior doors are registered in GOST. He may be old, but most of is built on them.

Standard door opening sizes

On the territory of the Russian Federation, there is also a standard from the times of the USSR, which describes the requirements and sizes of doorways and interior doors. There are quite a few technical specifications and DSTUs, but they have little relation to standards - each manufacturer writes them for himself. You can buy doors made according to technical specifications if their quality is high. But doorways should be made exactly of standard dimensions.

Why is it better to make them according to the standard? Because then there will be no problems with replacement. Almost all manufacturers make doors taking into account GOST. After all, high-rise buildings are built taking into account all the requirements (or should be built this way). If the opening has special dimensions, you will only have to order the doors. And these are big costs, and there is no guarantee that in finished form you will like the product.

Dimensions according to GOST

So, even during major repairs or construction own home, during construction interior partitions in a new building - in any case, we install standard doorways. GOST provides the following parameters:

  • Width:
    • Single leaf 700 - 900 mm (in increments of 100 mm) and 1200 mm. It is recommended to install single-leaf doors in such doorways.
    • For double-leaf doors (the standard uses the term double-leaf doors), openings with a width of 1300 mm, 1500 mm and 1900 mm are made.
  • The standard height of the doorway can be only in two options: 2100 mm and 2300 mm. Minimum permissible height- 2071 mm and 2271 mm, respectively.

These are the dimensions of standard doorways. No others. As for permissible deviations, the doorway can be 20-25 mm narrower than the standard one. In this case, it will also be possible to install a standard door block. Only the installation gap will be smaller, which will not make the work easier. That is, the narrowest doorway can be 675 mm (instead of 700 mm). Using the same principle, you can calculate the permissible deviation relative to each standard width. It can be reduced slightly, but not more than 25 mm.

What to do if the actual dimensions do not meet the standard

What to do if a few millimeters are not enough to meet the standard? Depends on the material of the walls, as well as on the actual width of the passage. If the walls can be machined, a few missing millimeters can be removed. Hew, grind, chop down. An axe, a chisel, a chisel, a grinder with a disc for concrete/brick, etc. Usually a couple of protrusions or curvature in some area interferes. If you level it, you can get closer to the desired size.

If the walls are made of very durable material, the only option left to adjust the opening to the standard is to reduce it to the next standard value. There are two ways: lay bricks, pieces of building blocks, plaster. The second option is to install a mortgage beam (treated with an antiseptic and dried), which, again, is covered with plaster, aligning it with the walls. In general, you understand the idea: it is more practical to bring non-standard dimensions to the standard.

Convenient sizes of interior doors

It is easier to determine the height of doorways. Everything here is tied up at the height of the ceiling. And the choice is small - only two options - 2.1 m and 2.3 m. But what about the width? There are more opportunities here. In general, there are certain recommendations that relate to minimum sizes doors. Namely doors, and not openings under them. The opening should be 70-100 mm wider. So, the dimensions of interior doors must be no less than the specified width:

  • In technical rooms (pantries, bathrooms, baths and toilets), the recommended web width is 600 mm.
  • For kitchens the minimum is 700 mm.
  • For living rooms recommended at least 800 mm.

Of course, you can increase the size of interior doors if the doorway allows. Reduce at your own discretion. But the narrowest door leaf that can be found on sale is 550 cm, and even then it is inconvenient for obese people with it. In the kitchen and room where it can stand gas equipment, the width of doorways is dictated and controlled by the service fire safety. So it won't be possible to do it anymore. Wider is possible.

As for residential premises, openings can also be made for double doors. That is, up to the maximum permitted in GOST 1.5 meters. There may be wider ones, but this is no longer standard. In a wide opening you can install not only conventional swing models, but also or. But big and wide doors look good in large rooms. So the recommended sizes of interior doors were chosen for a reason. They took into account the not too large rooms in our homes.

How to determine what width the door leaf should be installed

If the doors are simply being replaced, the easiest way is to measure the door that is already in place. You definitely can't go wrong. If you are installing doors for the first time, you need to measure the doorway and select an option that will require minimal effort during installation.

How to measure a doorway

To choose the correct size of a door or door block, you need to know the exact dimensions of the opening in which they will be installed. Measurements are carried out using a regular construction tape. We measure any parameter at least at two points. If the difference is visually visible, you can measure more times, adjusting the position of the tape measure at your discretion.

The height of the doorway is measured at one and the other jamb, the width at the top and bottom, approximately at a distance of 30-50 cm from the floor and lintel. You can also take measurements in the middle of the height. You also need to measure the thickness of the opening (wall thickness). It must be checked at least at two points on each side.

We record all measurements. It is better to do this on a diagram of the doorway. If there are deviations, we look at how serious the situation is and whether it can be corrected. If the “narrowest” place corresponds to the smallest possible standard opening, you can leave everything as is. Otherwise, you will have to try to correct the situation. It is already described above how.

But size isn't everything. It is necessary to check whether there are any deviations in geometry. Side walls doorways should be vertical, and the lintel should be horizontal. You can check the correctness of the form using a regular building level(bubble), but more convenient and accurate with the help of . You can check the side walls with a regular plumb line. If the deviations are large, they need to be corrected. If their size is within a centimeter, it will be possible to compensate during installation using mounting plates and construction foam.

We select the sizes of interior doors and blocks

As already mentioned, the dimensions of interior doors are determined based on the dimensions of the existing opening. Doors are sold as a block assembled with a frame or just one leaf. It is more convenient to take the block - this speeds up installation. But it will be cheaper to buy the canvas separately and assemble the box. Here you choose either to pay less, but spend time and put in extra effort, or save time, but spend more money.

If you decide to buy a door block, make sure that its width (according to the external dimensions door frame) was slightly less than the width of the opening. The minimum installation gap is 10-15 mm, optimal is 25-35 mm.

When purchasing only door leaf, they assume that it should be 80-100 mm narrower than the opening. You will also need to add two jambs, and this is at least twice 25 mm each, plus an installation gap of 10-15 mm, plus a gap on the sides of the door leaf - 5 mm. Total we get: 25*2 + 15 + 5 = 70 mm. This is the minimum value that must be added to the width of the door. The resulting figure should be equal to or less than the width of the doorway in which it will be installed.

Entrance door sizes

The dimensions of entrance door openings are also standardized. They are described in GOST 6629-88. If you want to install standard products, make openings according to the recommendations. If you are building your own house, it is better not to install entrance doors smaller than the minimum width. And it’s not just the difficulty of finding suitable canvas dimensions. The fact is that there is a very high probability that the fire or gas department will force you to redo it.

Companies have their own standards for technical specifications

So, standard sizes of entrance doors can be:

  • blade width
    • for single doors - 900 mm, 1100 mm;
    • for double doors - 1400 mm (700 mm + 700 mm); 1800 mm (900 mm +900 mm).
  • canvas height - 2300 mm.

If we talk about what is available for sale, then there are any doors. Moreover, you can order iron or wooden ones of any thickness. But again, this is non-standard. Although, the entrance ones are changed much less often than the interior ones.

A few words about what the doorway for the entrance doors should be like. According to the same standard, it should be 70 mm wider than the leaf for single leaf doors and 72 mm wider for double leaf doors. These are the minimum values. A wider opening is possible, but a smaller one is not. The height of the doorway for installing the entrance door should be 71 mm larger. That is, under front door with a canvas width of 900 mm, you need an opening of at least 970 * 2371 mm. Same with the others.

If you do not want to overpay 20-50 percent for non-standard interior doors, then you need to decide on the doorway in advance.

You need to start from the doors you like, the variety of which can satisfy even the most fastidious taste. Basically, doors are produced in standard sizes: 2 meters high and 60, 70, and 80 cm wide.

Helpful information:

Less common is a standard with a width of 40, 55 and 90 cm and a height of 1.9 meters. The thickness of the door frames can vary in the range of 1.5-4 cm.

Table of standard opening sizes

Depending on the room, it may be used standard size doors.

This is how they usually put it:

  • in the bathroom and toilet, the height of the opening is usually from 1.9 to 2 meters, width 55-60 cm, depth 5-7 cm.
  • in the kitchen height 2 meters, width 70 cm, depth 7 cm.
  • in the bedroom or living room, the height of the doorway will be 2 meters, width 80 cm and depth from 7 cm to 20 cm.
  • if the door to the bedroom has double doors, then only the width will change: it will be either 2*60 cm, or 40+80 cm.

After plastering works and leveling the walls, the depth of the doorway will increase accordingly.

These dimensions of doorways are very difficult to overestimate. After all, if you did not take them into account in your calculations, you may encounter a problem when your door frame does not fit into the opening. And not every opening can be enlarged; sometimes this is impossible due to the specific layout or design of the wall. If this bearing wall, then you will also face a number of difficulties.

Even a simple wall from plasterboard it is not easy to reduce due to transfer metal profiles. In this case, you will have to overpay for non-standard sizes of the interior door.

There is also the opposite situation, when the doorway is much larger than the door. Here you will also overpay specialists when installing the door, for narrowing the opening.

An unpleasant situation may arise when, as a result of reduction, the platband cannot close the hole in the doorway. In this case, you will need to seal up the uncovered sections of the wall, glue wallpaper or lay tiles. It’s good if the room hasn’t been glued up yet, but if it has been, then everything will have to be re-glued.

Therefore, even at the project stage, you need to decide on the size of the doorways, then you won’t have to overpay for non-standard doors or redo the opening.

What you need to know to calculate a doorway:

  • height and width of the proposed door
  • door frame thickness
  • box width
  • width of platbands
  • the box will be with or without a threshold.

Suppose you need a door measuring 2 by 0.8 meters and 2.5 cm thick. To calculate the dimensions of the doorway, you need to add the dimensions of the frame to the dimensions of the door, plus an installation gap of 1 to 2 cm on each side.

Figure y shows a diagram of a doorway with a door and dimensions. Using these data, we can easily obtain the opening width of 800+30+30+10+10+4+2=886 mm or 88.6 cm.

You can find out the width of the frame on the website of the manufacturer of the doors you like.

  • with a threshold of 2000+30+30+10+5+3=2078 mm. or 2 meters and 7.8 cm..
  • without threshold 2000+30+10+5+3=2048 mm. or 2 meters and 4.8 cm..

Please note that the most common thickness is 7.5 cm and therefore many manufacturers adhere to this particular size.

If the wall is thicker or thinner than the box, then you will need to install an extension or cut the box lengthwise, respectively. Without these operations you will not be able to and everything will look much worse.

The height of an interior door is the height of the door leaf, which is 3-5 mm less than the distance from the finished floor level to the level of the inside of the upper edge of the door frame. This indicator is needed to perform several various types work and can often be confused with the height of the door block or the height doorway. We suggest that you first figure out exactly what height you need and why you are going to carry out its calculations.

The height of the interior door will depend on the door block model used in a particular apartment. Under standard conditions for European-quality renovation, openings for interior doors are made such that they can install a door whose design does not include a threshold. If the apartment is not renovated and the doors were installed in it back in the Soviet Union, then most likely they also have a threshold, the height of which is 1-2 cm.

Standard height

We need this information in order to determine the concept of height: from which to which point it will be measured. Speaking about doors in general, there are three heights: the doorway, the door block or door frame, and the door leaf. Finding out what standard height interior door, most likely, we are talking specifically about the height of the door leaf. IN apartment buildings most commonly used standard - 2000 mm.

Manufacturers also include canvases with a height of 1900 mm within the standard models. For a double door, for example to a living room, door manufacturers produce models with leaf heights of up to 2800 mm. However, the most common type, like the single-leaf model, will have a leaf height of 2000 mm. The standard width of such doors is 120 mm. 60 mm for each sash if their dimensions are equal or 40 mm for the smaller part and 80 mm for the larger sash.

In addition, there are non-standard dimensions for interior doors. In this case, they relate specifically to height, since width is a standard characteristic, which can have several values: 60, 70, 80 and 90 cm. Width exceeding the maximum (900 mm) or less than the minimum (600 mm) already refers to non-standard dimensions. The peculiarity of these sizes is that when ordering them, the store will add a significant markup. So, a door with a height of 2400 mm will cost 30-40% more standard product. Non-standard heights of the door leaf are heights that differ by 10 cm on the larger side from the standard figure of 2 m. Every 10 cm will increase the cost of the door by about 10%, and the maximum height is 2400 mm.

It is also important to consider that the height of the door is calculated from the level of the finished floor. This means that all calculations should be carried out from the level of the floor covering laid and ready for use. If you order a door block at a stage when the floors have not yet been laid, then take into account the height of the future floor, depending on its design.

Height of door frame and doorway

If you do not need the height of the door leaf, but the height of the door frame, then it will be equal to the height of the door leaf plus 35 mm if the frame does not have a threshold. In the case where the door frame has a threshold, its height will be 70 mm greater than the height of the door leaf. Also take into account the fact that manufacturers produce lightweight door blocks with a frame thickness of 25 mm. In this case, its height without a threshold will be 25 mm greater than the height of the door, and with a threshold - by 50 mm.

Table of box sizes for different canvases:

As for the height of the doorway, it directly depends on the height of the block or door frame. For models without a threshold with a standard height of the door leaf, the height of the opening will be 206-210 cm. In general, a height of 206 cm will be sufficient, since it is calculated from the height of the leaf plus 3.5 cm for the thickness of the frame on top and plus 2.5 cm for the layer of polyurethane foam, required when installing the unit. Openings with a height of 210 cm are suitable for boxes with or without a threshold. Door block without a threshold, it can be installed in a larger opening, since the excess space can be filled with foam - it will still be covered by platbands.

Individual height selection

To summarize, we will say that when dealing with standard interior doors, you will most likely come across a model with a door leaf height of 2 meters or 2000 mm. Those who want to know the dimensions of the door for arranging a doorway need to know the dimensions of the frame - its standard height is 2035 mm for a door leaf with a height of 2000 mm. For models with a threshold, this value will be 2070 mm. If you are at the stage of choosing a door that suits you, then first find out the height of the opening in your apartment. If desired, you can order a door with a height of 1900 to 2400 mm.

There is probably little that can be changed in renovating the interior of an apartment or private house without causing global devastation and without spending significant effort or financial resources so that it has such a practical and aesthetic effect as if you change the interior doors.

After all, no matter what beautiful wallpaper or flooring, leaving the room, the last thing that fixes our consciousness is the decor and quality of the door (canvas) with its frame. Therefore, such a final touch largely influences our perception of the design and comfort of the room as a whole.

Marking of door products

With the marking, which is the passport of the product, not everything is so simple. On the one hand, there are certain GOST designation recommendations, and on the other, the abundance of manufacturers sometimes creates confusion in the general standards. It is not uncommon that doors manufactured using the same technologies and having visual identity can be named and labeled in different ways.

First, let's look at the state standard, which no one has canceled. So on making wooden internal doors for residential and public buildings is still valid GOST 6629-88, according to which it is indicated (in order of positions in the marking):

Product type: D- door assembly, P- door leaf.

Fabric type: G- deaf, ABOUT- glazed, TO- glazed swinging, At- reinforced with continuous filling.

Height of the door with frame, in dm.

Width of door with frame, in dm. Additional letter indices: L- left door, N- with floating, P- with a threshold.

State standard index.

For example: DG20-10L GOST 6629-88 or PO19-7LN GOST 6629-88.

Despite the fact that any self-respecting manufacturer of door products still adheres to state standards, along with official model designations, entrances and individual factory codes. For example, one of Russian brands uses this identification, producing doors with a thickness of 40 mm and a height of 2000 mm:

Model name.

Type of canvas. DG- deaf, DOF- with milled glass, DOOF- with two milled glasses.

Opening width, cm.

Veneer color.

Opening direction.

For a version of such products, you can read on the packaging: "Stella" DG 60 Oak lion.

Ultimately, no matter how different any factory marking is from the Gost marking, you and I are more interested in the appearance, structure and operational properties doors, about which you will need to ask the seller in detail and carefully study the company passport attached to each product with its characteristics and installation instructions.

The market does not allow you to relax in search of a suitable model, offering a seemingly huge variety of door products. However, upon closer examination, several main types of products can be distinguished:

For painting

Allows you to achieve complete color combination with surrounding design. Supplied primed, completely ready to be coated with decorative interior compositions.

In this group of products, two subtypes should be distinguished - elite and budget oriented. The expensive segment of doors for painting is produced for the so-called hidden installation. After installation and tinting similar product, only a protruding handle can indicate the presence of a passage in the wall.

Budget models can be found in many public institutions; they are also widely used in “economy” apartment renovations and as temporary options. They are a textured MDF coating on timber frame. Their main advantage is the lowest price among all door designs.

Laminated

They are delivered to the retail chain ready for installation. In many ways, the design is reminiscent of the previous budget class. However, they have a stain-resistant coating laminated with a polymer film that can imitate any decorative material.

They can be filled with heat and sound insulating materials: corrugated cardboard, mineral wool, polyurethane foam or polystyrene foam. There are models with smooth or textured surfaces, as well as with profiled overlays made of pressed MDF.

Veneered

They are the next higher level in quality and appearance. The basis for them is the same frame MDF with fillers different types. The thinnest sections (0.7 mm) of valuable wood - veneer - are glued onto the base, which are then varnished. The result is a complete imitation of a product made from massive material, but with less weight and an affordable price.

Made from solid wood

Probably not worth praising once again products from entirely natural material. In addition to all its advantages, such a door will add sophistication and comfort to any interior, if you are willing to pay its high cost. However, one should not forget that wood is very sensitive to changes in humidity, therefore, for the long service of such elite products, mandatory control of the indoor microclimate is required.

Glass

They also belong to the high price segment of the market offerings of door products. They help in the implementation of special design delights, and are also ideal for installation at the entrances to bathrooms, showers, saunas and other places with high humidity. They come in transparent, translucent, matte, colored glass and with surface milling.

Metal-plastic

Serve good decision for exits to loggias, terraces, as well as for damp rooms, as a cheap alternative glass doors. They have excellent sound insulation and heat retention qualities. The surfaces of products can be laminated with films to suit any natural material

About dimensions and more. Standard sizes of interior doors

If we do not take into account the non-standard approaches of some private customers, for whom the binding of door dimensions is based on subjective requests and desires, then most manufacturers are guided by standard openings of typical buildings from the Soviet period. And why reinvent the wheel - from the point of view of the ergonomics of door products designed for the physiology of the human body, everything has long been invented and thought out.

At the same time, the share of individual requests (regarding product sizes) on the market is small, and therefore is successfully filled by the efforts of small private manufacturers, although they are much more expensive than standard models.

The ratio of the sizes of doorways and doors (door frame + leaf) according to domestic SNiP. From the tables below you can find out the size of the doorway for a door with a width of, for example, 80 cm.

600+600*2000 1340-1400 2060-2080

Width

First of all, when talking about the size of doors, both swing and sliding, any of us means the width of the door that we will use every day. In some places you need and want a wider one, but in others a narrow alignment is enough. Gostov's proven recommendations offer the following parameters:

For bathrooms - 600 mm,

For kitchens - 700 mm,

For living rooms - 800 mm.

If we consider real market products, then its range (adjusted for the needs of modern consumers) is somewhat wider:

For bathrooms - 550 mm And 600 mm,

For kitchens - 700 mm,

For living rooms - 800 mm And 900 mm.

Let’s not undeservedly forget double doors, because they often emphasize the special status of living rooms or passages to terraces. They are usually made up of the same standard canvases in equal and unequal combinations, for example: 600+600=1200 mm or 600+800=1400 mm. Also for the “kopeck piece”, narrowed segments are used 400 mm - 400+400=800 mm or 400+800=1200 mm.

Height standards

If we start from the domestic "classics", then it has been preserved in the proposals 1900 mm And 2000 mm, although now the European standard is also often found - 2100 mm. Higher products can also be installed - 2300 mm and even to the ceiling. It is clear that such “giants” are more convenient to use in a sliding version.

The thicker the canvas, the better?

Is it always like this? What does this parameter affect? Of course, massive thick sashes perfectly emphasize the interiors of living rooms, especially those made in the Empire, Baroque, Renaissance styles, but thin screens and sliding partitions will be a great addition to passages to pantries or dressing rooms.

The thicker the door, the heavier it is (in its group of design solutions and type of materials), therefore, the requirements for its hinged fittings will be higher, it may be necessary to install additional hinges, which together will lead to an increase in the cost of the entire product. Therefore, the choice of canvas according to the criterion of massiveness, as well as according to other parameters, should be based on rationality and optimality.

Typical products prevailing on the market have thicknesses in a range of sizes 30-40 mm. Already in this fork of parameters, you can most often find doors 35 mm And 40 mm, as well as with intermediate values 36 mm And 38 mm.

In addition to the indicated running dimensions, sliding MDF partition doors can be very thin - from 20 mm, but the products of enterprises from solid wood are unlikely to be produced with a base cross section of less than 40 mm(can reach up to 50 or more on special orders). It should be noted that doors made of tempered glass, whose thickness starts from 8 mm, have come to private interiors relatively recently, but are gaining popularity.

What else is good to know when choosing an interior door?

Taking measurements of the opening for purchase new door, please note that it must be at least 30 mm larger dimensions of the box along the top edge and width. The installation gap will be required to adjust the product using wedges, followed by fixation polyurethane foam. Of course, this value is relevant for the opening that is correct in relation to the vertical and horizontal.

Most boxes are made thick 35 mm. Those. dimensions of the width of the product assembled with the canvas 800 mm will 870 mm (+35 mm*2). Similarly, the size increases in height, although you still need to take into account whether there is or is not a threshold.

Thick doors retain heat better and counteract noise from adjacent rooms.

Installing the box, before installation floor coverings, carefully calculate the level of the finishing surface. If the door starts to rest on the floor, then it is very difficult to trim it perfectly on your own, and this cannot be done with every model.

In conclusion, we can say that the interior door design, despite the apparent simplicity of the device, is quite sensitive to installation errors. Therefore, either its installation and configuration will take a lot of your time, or you will have to involve highly specialized specialists.

In order to bring the production of interior elements to a single standard, they were introduced and approved state level standard sizes of interior doors. This greatly simplifies the selection of products if they need to be replaced. It is enough to correctly measure the parameters of a typical opening and buy a suitable model.

If there are no problems with domestically produced products, then when purchasing an imported interior door, a difficult situation may arise, since in foreign countries there is a different standard. In addition, when purchasing alternative types of doors (double doors, sliding doors, hidden doors), you need to know some of their design features.

State standards

There are certain approved state standards (GOST), according to which domestic manufacturers produce interior interior elements. These are GOST 6629-88, as well as SNiPs 21-7, 21-8, 21-9, 21-10, 21-13. For ease of review, this data is summarized in a table that displays the most common standards:

If the choice falls on a product of imported origin, then the dimensions of the interior door can be checked for compliance with European standards DIN 18100-18102, as well as DIN4172, which indicate the clear dimensions of the opening:

These dimensions must be taken into account if you are planning to order, for example, an Italian door. Most likely, imported models will have non-standard dimensions, which should be taken into account when laying out doorways during construction planning or major repairs.

For doorways with a height exceeding 2000-2040 mm, our own standards have been developed, indicated in the table below.

The development of state standards takes into account the needs of the main segment of the population living in standard buildings. In choosing standard models of one size or another, its functional purpose also plays an important role. In other words, the place in the apartment where this product will be located is important. In accordance with this requirement, the dimensions of the canvas, design features, and equipment with special fittings are selected.

The nuances of correct opening measurement

In some cases, it becomes necessary to independently measure the parameters to purchase an interior door. This happens if the house or apartment is located at a great distance from the manufacturing company, in another city or in another state. Self-measurement is also carried out in cases where there is no time to wait for a surveyor’s visit or it is more convenient for the customer to take the dimensions on their own. Regardless of the reason, this event must be carried out as accurately as possible so that the selected model fits perfectly into the existing opening without the need to adjust it. This means that the height, width and thickness of the interior door leaf should be as close as possible to the corresponding parameters of the opening. To carry out correct measurements, you should focus on the following rules.

Determining the width of the opening.

To do this, measure the distance between the walls at the narrowest point of the opening. If the wall becomes narrower closer to the door, then you need to measure in this part. In the case of a uniform wall width without narrowing, the location where the width is measured is not of fundamental importance. If the old door has not yet been dismantled, then the measured distance from the middle of one platband to the middle of the opposite platband is the width of the interior doors.

Determining the height of the opening.

To determine the indicator of this dimension, it is necessary to measure the distance from the point of the finished floor to the lowest point of the upper part of the opening. If the doorway narrows closer to the hinges, then the measurement should be taken in this area. If the height of the opening is uniform, then the location of the measurement is not critical. The easiest way is to take measurements using the old door, if it has not yet been dismantled. In this case, the height of the interior doors will be equal to the distance from the middle of the upper trim to the zero point of the finished floor.

Determining the depth of the opening.

To do this, you will need to measure the thickness of the wall in which the doorway is located. This will be the depth of the opening. The measurement should be made in three sections: in the upper, middle and lower on both walls. This meticulous event is necessary in order to identify the widest place in the wall. If the old door has not been dismantled, then it is necessary to measure the dimensions of the frame and the wall (thickness), if it protrudes beyond the frame. To correctly measure the three key dimensions, it is best to use the services of a professional. Possessing a body of knowledge, the installation specialist will take perfect measurements and give practical recommendations on choosing a standard or non-standard interior door. We remind you that when ordering doors from the Porta prima company, a visit from a specialist to measure dimensions and consultation on the choice of door leaf is absolutely free.

Formulas for measuring door leaves

Often a situation arises where you need to make a doorway, but the choice of door leaf model has not yet been made. In this case, to measure the parameters of the opening, the following points must be taken into account:

  • dimensions of the door leaf (width, height, thickness);
  • box dimensions (thickness, width);
  • indicator of the width of the platbands.

For greater clarity, an example of calculating the dimensions of a doorway will be given.

Let’s assume that a standard size door leaf will be used for installation, having the following dimensions:

  • Airborne – door leaf height – 2000 mm;
  • Шдв – standard width of an interior door – 70 0 mm.

With these parameters of the interior product, a box will be installed, the thickness of which (Tk) will be equal to 30 mm. The size of the installation gap (Mz) will be equal to 10 mm, and the value of the door block (BD) will be equal to 20 mm. With these standard values, the threshold height (Vp) will be 20 mm.

Formula for calculating the opening width of a future door:

W of the opening = Wdv + 2×Tk + Mz +2×Bd = 700 + 2×30 + 10 + 2×20 = 810 mm.

The height of the opening is calculated using the following expression:

Opening = Vdv + Vp + 2× Tk = 2000 + 20 + 2×30 = 2080 mm.

Therefore, for an interior door leaf with dimensions of 2000 × 700 mm, it will be necessary to make a doorway 2080 × 810 mm.

The door frame is manufactured according to the standard opening depth of 7.5 mm. If the thickness of the interior door leaf does not correspond to this indicator, you must either order the frame according to custom sizes, or use additions in the design. Therefore, it is recommended to make calculations in advance.

How to calculate whether a door will fit into an opening?

This is a common situation when choosing standard door to the existing opening. Usually, a good clue for choosing is the marking of door products, which indicates the main dimensions.

At this stage, doubts may arise whether the product is suitable and whether additional difficulties will arise in its installation.

To dispel doubts, you need to reason as follows:

  • Let's say we have a doorway of 900 × 2040 mm, which corresponds to the standard.
  • We calculate the width: we add the standard width of the canvas 800 mm with the thickness of the box (on both sides) and construction intervals of 15 mm. Please note that there is an interval to the left and right of the door, so you need to multiply it by two. When calculating, we get 880 mm.
  • We calculate the height in a similar way. The leaf height of 2000 mm is added to the box thickness of 25 mm and the upper installation distance of 15 mm. We get the value 2040 mm.

Therefore, an interior door with a standard size of 800 × 2000 mm will ideally fit into a typical opening with dimensions of 900 × 2040 mm. This once again proves the need to create state standards in the construction industry. You can safely buy a typical product without worrying about whether it will fit.

What to do if the door is selected incorrectly?

However, there are situations when the purchased canvas with the box was chosen inaccurately. When returning a purchase is impossible for an objective reason, you can use some construction tricks:

  • when only a few millimeters are missing in the width or height of the doorway, you can carefully cut a wider hole in the wall;
  • if the box is narrower than the wall thickness, it is recommended to use an extension that will cover the prominent area of the wall thickness;
  • if the thickness of the box is much narrower than the dimensions of the doorway, then along the perimeter of the box (except for the bottom) they form an even slope;
  • If the above methods are not acceptable, it is recommended to order doors according to individual non-standard parameters.
