How to hang cabinet doors with hidden hinges. How to assemble wardrobe doors with your own hands - installation and assembly of doors

Fittings are an important element of any furniture. It determines the quality and service life, especially when it comes to cabinets. Its ability to perform a number of actions depends on how high-quality it is used: opening, closing, etc.

Door hinges: what are they?

The most important element of cabinet hardware is the hinges. They not only help to attach the facade to the body, but are also responsible for opening the doors. Moreover, the last procedure can be performed at different angles, which is very convenient during the operation of this type of furniture.

The choice of hinges that are used when assembling furniture is quite large. They differ both in their design features and other indicators. This greatly complicates the process of choosing them. To do it correctly, you need to know what types of furniture hinges there are, their purpose, and how to secure these elements to the cabinet door. This information will help you do all the work yourself and ensure long service product.

After the door frame is assembled, you need to hang the doors. To do this, you cannot do without a special mechanism that will ensure they open and close. Loops act as it. When installing cabinet doors, hinge or four-hinge fasteners are mainly used. They differ in their appearance and functionality. So, the first ones are presented in the form of two parts, which are connected by an axis.

This type of loop has been known for a long time. It has been used in furniture assembly for over twenty years. It is easy to install and convenient to use. Over time, this type of loop was improved. Thus, they have become universal and can be used in assembly different types cabinets and they got the name - four-hinged.

But for glass and mirror doors such loops will not work. When assembling them, you need fittings equipped with a decorative overlay and a special ring that helps seal the structure. Such hinges are installed directly on the glass surface.

Door hinges: application method and area of application

Except design features, hinges can be installed in different ways. Thus, they distinguish between overhead and semi-overlay fittings, which are mainly used when assembling furniture with external doors. Another option for hinges is inset hinges. They are well suited for partitions located inside the product. If the cabinet is corner, then corner fasteners are required when assembling it. However, they come in different configurations.

As you know, door hinges provide their ability to open and close. Basically 90 degrees is enough. But in some cases it needs to be increased. Traditional hinges will not allow this. Therefore, to open furniture doors up to 180 degrees, it is necessary to install special fittings. Hinges that provide this ability to furniture doors are called inverse.

How to install a hinge on a cabinet door?

Installing hinges on cabinet doors is a simple procedure. If you assemble furniture yourself, then this procedure will be within your power. The main thing is to know its features and prepare properly. All other work will be done quickly and easily.

Before you begin installing the hinges, you need to prepare the tools without which this task cannot be solved. Their list is small and can be found in almost every home. Therefore, there will be no cost to purchase them. So, you need tools such as a pencil, level, screwdriver or screwdriver, screws, tape measure, drill. Well, and, of course, the fastening element itself.

Installing hinges on cabinet doors: stages of work

Once prepared necessary tools, you can move on to the main work. The first stage is to carry out markings. It is carried out taking into account the interval, which is 80-130 mm, between the holes. It is necessary to mark their center on the facade of the product. As for the number of hinges, this indicator depends on the height of the doors themselves. So, two or more loops can be used.

An important point in carrying out this work is maintaining the distance to the edge of the facade and shelves. Otherwise, the door will not close and it will not do well. It is generally accepted correct distance from the edge of the facade to the center of the hole 20 mm.

In order to make an opening, you will need a 34 mm drill. This will allow you to drill a hole. required depth. Typically this figure is 13 mm. To do this, the drill is inserted into the drill. When carrying out work, hold the tool at an angle of ninety degrees. If you change this position, then inevitably the appearance of cracks, chips and other things that can ruin appearance furniture.

Once the hinges are secured, you can begin installing the doors. But it is worth paying attention to how the fasteners are located. They must be on the same axis. This will ensure that the doors are placed evenly and the load is evenly distributed. If this is not observed, the product will quickly fail and will require repair.

Hinge adjustment

Loop adjustment is the final procedure in this process. At the same time, it requires an equally responsible approach, since it affects the quality of the mechanism.

Adjustment in progress different ways depending on how the furniture is used. If the door needs to be pressed against the door or, conversely, moved away from it, the fasteners are clamped or loosened. The adjustment process is carried out according to the depth and fixation of the fittings. You can use a screwdriver to do this job. This adjustment method is mainly necessary in rooms with uneven floors. It will ensure the opening and closing of the furniture door.

As practice shows, doors on furniture sag over time. Will help correct the situation vertical adjustment. She is responsible for placing doors along the height of the facade. You can adjust this, make it higher or lower.

If gaps appear between the door and the body, horizontal adjustment will help. It will eliminate them and ensure a tight fit of all furniture elements. It is mainly used for furniture that is located on uneven floors.

The furniture assembly work is considered completed as soon as the hinges on the cabinet door are installed, because front side very important. People always pay attention to it when entering a room, so a self-respecting owner will not allow any flaws in the installation. A millimeter of inaccuracy in the calculations - and the entire effect of the new furniture is down the drain. No matter how insignificant and simple the work may seem, it is an illusion. To carry it out efficiently, you need to be a master. The aesthetic perception of finished cabinet doors is only 50 percent of success. It is important that they are installed correctly: the period of operation of the cabinet without repair depends on the balance of the doors.

You need to start assembling furniture with a selection of materials and tools that will be needed for the job. It is necessary to take into account the structure of materials, because there are different kinds wooden surfaces. They will require different fastening devices and fastening methods. The main methods of fixation are the lower and upper positions. For massive sashes over a meter long with heavy weight, add another hinge in the middle. For installation of doors over nine kilograms. The maximum number of loops for a product weighing 20 kg will be 5 pieces.

Assembly of furniture does not require complex mechanisms. The necessary set of tools consists of simple, familiar things. To install the fasteners on the door, the following tools are required:

  • self-tapping screws (4x16mm);
  • roulette;
  • hammer;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • level;
  • chalk.

Before installing the hinges, you need to select the material for the job. The main material is the fastening device. There are many types of hinges on the hardware market, they may differ:

  • design;
  • material;
  • design;
  • functions;
  • style.

They are selected based on the types of material, dimensions, and type of furniture. Separate fastening devices are used for furniture that meets certain design styles. For ordinary cabinet doors, standard semi-overlay and overhead fasteners are used.

When choosing fastening devices, it is better to give preference to industrial certified products. This will extend the life of the furniture. The selection of hinges should be comprehensive, taking into account all the materials necessary for fastening:

  • fastening devices for large cabinets perform the functions of opening the doors. By technical specifications These are mechanical parts;
  • The materials from which the doors are made are of no small importance; one of the significant indicators is their thickness;
  • The material of the hinges is also taken into account: they are made from alloys that are resistant to deformation and corrosion.

Overhead fasteners with four hinges have one fastening principle:

  • the cups lying at the base of the fastening device are connected to the panel;
  • The inserts are placed in the bases and secured to the side of the body.

The service life of these mechanisms exceeds acceptable standards thanks to the reliability of the connections. To better understand the process of attaching a hinge to a cabinet, you need to have a good understanding of the types of fastening devices. Universal hinges on four hinges have a good margin of safety:

  • the range of their opening angle when mounted on cabinet doors ranges from 90 to 165o;
  • they can be adjusted in three different planes;
  • The fastening device consists of two elements:
    • the slats will be installed on side wall furniture;
    • the hinges will be screwed to the cabinet doors.

Types of fastening loops

Various hinges are used in cabinet assembly. The most common fastening devices are those with four hinges. In everyday life they are called frogs. These mounts fit all cabinets with doors:

  • clothes;
  • children's;
  • kitchen;
  • for equipment;
  • bookstores

They are divided into subtypes, depending on how they will be installed. The products have a wide range of applications and are used for all types of cabinets.

For clothes

Before installing the fastening device, you need to take into account the features of the doors:

  • For corner cabinets or cabinets of any configuration, select hinges that will be fastened at an angle of 45° during installation;
  • for a cabinet in which the doors are installed on the internal walls of the furniture without closing it, you need to choose an internal hinge;
  • for cabinets in which both doors overlap a common side wall, you need to embed a semi-overlay hinge;
  • the door designed to cover the sides of the niche is secured with overhead hinges;
  • In addition to hinges consisting of 4 hinges, in furniture assembly practice they use fastening devices consisting of 2 parts that are connected by an axis;
  • in order to be able to open the doors at an angle of 180°, you need to secure the device with inverse hinges;
  • piano hinges with simple mechanism used for kitchen cabinets. They consist of steel or brass strips connected with wire. This type of fastening elements can only be installed in kitchen cabinets, since for other furniture this fastening will be fragile.

When choosing furniture fittings It is important to remember that when installing hinges with four hinges, they are mounted to the side walls of the cabinet using self-tapping screws measuring 4x16 mm. In this case, the cup mount should have a diameter of 26 mm, and the holes will have the same diameter.

How to mark up

Before you install furniture hinges, markings are carried out and blanks are made for the subsequent stages of work: drilling and installation of the fastening device. To mark, it is important to know the number of hinges on the door. The answer to this question follows from the weight and size of the cabinets. To support heavy, oversized cabinets, you need 3 or more hinges. Lightweight wall cabinets will support two fastenings. Taking into account the recommendations given in the table will allow you not to worry about the strength of the fasteners.

You need to mark using a level, pencil and tape measure. Compliance with the following order of work will help make accurate calculations:

  • fastening devices will be mounted 20-22 mm from the edge;
  • the distance of the hinges from the ends of the door should be 70-120 mm;
  • If you need to install more than two fasteners, first mark the outermost points, then evenly mark the remaining ones.

To make the marking more accurate, special templates are used. When placing several fasteners, make sure that they are not at the level of the internal elements of the cabinet (ends, shelves).

Correct markup

Having completed the marking, drilling is performed. When assembling furniture yourself, rely on the following recommendations:

  • holes for the hinge bowl are drilled along the marking lines on the doors;
  • the fastening device is placed in a niche and leveled to 180°;
  • mark the installation points of the loops;
  • drill the holes that are needed to attach the fastening device to the door;
  • the door is aligned where it will be attached. Notes are made on the closet;
  • holes are prepared;
  • holes are drilled for the strike plate.

Installation of fastening loops

When installing a fastening device, it is important to know how to position it correctly; this determines the service life of the cabinet. We recommend placing the fasteners in one line so that the load on the hinges is even. If this requirement is not met, the hinges will not withstand their service life. All joints marked with an awl or sharp nail should be clearly visible. For these purposes, work surfaces are wiped. All work must be done thoroughly: excessive fuss can cause marriage.

Before fastening, a thorough check of all parameters of the location of shelves and cabinet doors is carried out. Ideal option is to draw up an installation sketch. If all elements are ready, you can begin installation:

  • the doors need to be fitted to the sides of the cabinet at the markings;
  • fix the door in a level place. IN drilled holes insert into cups, connect to the door. Errors must not be allowed: all elements must be connected exactly in size so that the door opens without effort;
  • the strike plate can be attached vertically;
  • When using fastening devices, they must be mounted “blind”; they should not have errors. It is better to do the fastening with an assistant;
  • Having installed the hinges on the door, try them on the cabinet. They must match exactly. Points are marked on both sides. Correct connections will make the doors operate without problems;
  • finish the job by checking connections.

There is no need to worry if the doors do not move easily when you first open them. The door leaves will develop over time, and after completion of work, the hinges are lubricated with machine oil and wiped with a soft absorbent cloth.

Types of adjustment of fastening devices

What is adjustment and why is it needed? This is the elimination of a problem that arose during the installation of fasteners. Before carrying out it, it is necessary to carry out diagnostics in order to detect the problem. Having established the cause, you should slightly loosen the fastening bolt or tighten it more. Adjustments must be made whenever the doors begin to sag. This procedure has three varieties:

  • depth adjustment is needed in rooms with uneven floors; it is necessary to loosen the fasteners or tighten the screw. A regular screwdriver will do just fine for this job;
  • horizontal adjustment is required, especially if the floor is uneven, to eliminate the gap formed between the cabinet and the door;
  • vertical adjustment is needed to hang the doors on the right level. The procedure is systematic: you need to adjust the position of the cabinet doors so that they do not sag.

The nuances of installation on glass sashes

The type of fastening devices specially produced for glass sashes differs from previous devices. On the glass doors you will need to hang special hinges that have a magnificent design and can be adjusted in three different planes. The device includes:

  • an o-ring that needs to be screwed to the glass;
  • decorative trim (it needs to be screwed to the side walls);
  • fastening loop;
  • a plug that closes the loop on the front side.

A simple option for glass doors can be hinge hinges, which include 2 parts: plastic seal and a loop. It is attached to the hole under the hinge and on the glass.

Installation on glass doors must be carried out taking into account the characteristics of the material. It differs from other types of fastening and has its own characteristics:

  • make markings for installing fasteners;
  • Drill holes in the cabinet frame with a drill;
  • using self-tapping screws, insert a loop into the niche;
  • Using clamps, connect the fasteners to glass or mirror;
  • to protect the surface from damage, install rubber gaskets between the glass and the mount;
  • Finally, tighten the fastener.

It is better not to drill the glass to prevent accidental chips and damage. This is fraught with the loss of doors.

Installing wide hinges is advisable on cabinet doors made of chipboard, since this is a loose material that will begin to crumble over time. To keep the mechanisms in working order, they need to be lubricated with machine oil from time to time to protect them from dryness and corrosion. In cases of door sagging due to the cabinet being in a damp room with uneven floors, it is necessary to adjust the fastening mechanisms.

Installing a fastening device on a cabinet door is a responsible job, but it can be done with your own hands. All its stages are doable. You need to pay special attention to the markings so that the product is pleasing to the eye and serves for a long time without failures or breakdowns.

Even before they appeared on the world market, sliding wardrobes gained enormous popularity both among residents of megacities and small towns. According to statistics, sliding wardrobes have consistently held one of the leading positions in the list of all furniture sales for many years. Modern design The wardrobe is a simple, combined system that allows you not only to rationally save living space, but also to emphasize quite advantageously individual characteristics any interior. Sliding wardrobe doors and the possibility of installing it in any, even small-sized apartment, are considered the main advantages of such models. With the help of a wardrobe you can decorate your interior design, create your own original style, visually enlarge the room.

Correct assembly of the wardrobe is the key to long-lasting and trouble-free operation of the entire structure. At the same time, the flawless installation of wardrobe doors is of paramount importance. If you follow certain recommendations regarding the assembly of the product, then the installation of this element of cabinet furniture will not take much time and effort. Further in the article will be given detailed instructions concerning self-installation wardrobe doors - compartments.

Preparing for assembly

For assembly sliding doors The cabinet must have the following components:

  • Upper and lower guide profiles (rails). It is the main mechanism that drives the door leaf. Depending on the configuration of sliding doors, lower and upper guides are distinguished.
  • Stoppers and limiters. With their help door design moves smoothly along the guide profile and is fixed at a given point.
  • Closers. These mechanisms ensure the sliding movement of the door.

Tools needed to install wardrobe doors yourself:

  • a set of Phillips and straight screwdrivers;
  • building level;
  • imbus key;
  • cord plumb line;
  • hammer;
  • pliers;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • stationery knife;
  • roulette;
  • metal drill (Ø 4 mm).

The process of assembling sliding wardrobe doors

The assembly of doors of any design begins only after the final completion of the installation of the cabinet itself. In this case, the door leaf must be exactly level.

To install sliding wardrobe doors, you need to accurately measure the width of the internal opening of the wardrobe at the location where the upper guide rail is installed and subtract 1–2 mm from the resulting value. To trim the profile, take a construction ruler (square) and draw the edges of the cut along the perimeter of the guide line. You can remove excess material using a hacksaw or grinder.

When performing work, special care and precision are required, since the guides can be easily damaged.

  • To install the upper guide profile, you need to drill holes for screws or self-tapping screws. Openings for screws and screws are drilled in the same parallel at equal intervals of 45–60 cm. To avoid mechanical damage profile for drilling holes, it is better to use any convenient support (table, chair, stool, etc.). The finished holes are carefully sanded with sanding paper.

  • The prepared guide rail is installed in the upper opening of the wardrobe and fixed with screws.
  • Openings for screws are drilled in the lower profile. There should be a stopper at each end of the guide rail. Installing a stopper is necessary to secure the door leaf in the closed state. Installation of the clamp (stopper) must be done on the correct side. For the right door leaf - in the recess on the right, for the left - in the recess on the left. Then the lower profile is inserted inside the wardrobe and attached to its bottom.
  • At the next stage of installation, the sliding wardrobe door is put in place. The upper door rollers are carefully inserted into the upper profile, and the lower door wheels are inserted into the recess of the lower guide profile.

  • After the doors are finally installed in place, they must be adjusted relative to each side surface of the wardrobe. You need to adjust special wheels located on both sides at the bottom of the door leaf. The left door leaf is adjusted along the left side surface of the cabinet, and the right door leaf is adjusted along the right side. When adjusting, the doors must be closed.
  • The lower guide rail should only be attached if you are absolutely sure that door leaves aligned correctly (parallel and vertical).
  • The bottom profile should be attached to the bottom of the cabinet using screws or self-tapping screws.
  • To reduce shocks that occur during the closing and opening of sliding doors, it is advisable to stick a special rubber pad on each door.
  • At the end of installation, you need to adjust the position of the stoppers. The stoppers should be adjusted so that when rollers (wheels) get into them, the wardrobe door can remain in a tightly closed position.

If you strictly follow all the tips regarding the installation of sliding wardrobe doors, then the installation procedure will not only not cause you unnecessary trouble, but will also develop into an exciting and fun process.

Or, as they are also called, cup hinges are by far the most common fittings for hanging swing facades. Thanks to the variety of their shapes and modifications, you can install any façade exactly the way you want.

In this article we will analyze the process of installing a simple cup hinge (complex ones with closers, etc. are installed in almost the same way).

From the tools for work, we will need a screwdriver, a pencil with a ruler or square and a drill with a diameter of 35 mm. It is worth mentioning that there are also hinges with a mounting diameter of 26 mm. I have not seen cutters of this diameter, so I drill for such hinges with a simple 25 mm cutter, shaking it around the circumference, thus selecting the missing millimeter.

Doors should not be made too wide and heavy; the width should not exceed 500 mm, otherwise the load on the hinges will be too great. The above diagram will allow you to figure out how many hinges to put on one facade, depending on its size. It’s better to make high doors with a width of 300 mm

We mark the hole for the cup on the facade. To do this, at the desired height, departing from the edge 21-22 mm
(ours will help with marking) we drill a blind hole with a Forstner cutter. You need to retreat at least 70 mm from the upper and lower edges, otherwise you can screw the loop opposite the lower or upper horizons of the box, which is unacceptable. It should be strictly perpendicular to the plane of the facade and have a depth of 11-12 mm. Then we drill a blind hole.

It is necessary to drill on a hard, level substrate so that the cutter's tenon does not push the façade off the face. The drill needs to make small rocking-circular movements (this makes drilling much easier).

I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that most budget cutters are made with a centering tenon 3 mm long, so there is a high risk of drilling through the part. For prevention, you should either shorten the tenon on the emery or grinder (maintaining alignment), or simply fill your hand, training on scraps.

Pay attention to the black pipe lying near the cutter - this is a vacuum cleaner. Collects fine dust and some large sawdust, which has a beneficial effect on the cleanliness of the workplace.

Insert a loop into the resulting hole, aligning it perpendicular to the edge, mark the holes for the screws with a pencil,
Use a thin drill or awl to deepen the markings.

We put the hinges in place and secure each hinge with two self-tapping screws with a countersunk head.

We attach the façade to the stand and align it relative to the vertical dimensions

Mark the attachment points with a pencil. In order for all the hinges to stand level, you can use this method: support them with a long ruler, an even block or the same facade.

Now let's apply finished door to the body in open form and mark the holes for the fasteners with a pencil.

It is advisable to do this when the box is lying on the floor “on its back” - it’s much easier this way.

We drill them out with a thin drill. If the cabinet is already standing, and the facade is too large and it is inconvenient to place it vertically, then we mark and drill holes on the body for the overlay strip, according to the drilling map. In our case, we use a strip without Euroscrews. We mark the axis of the hinge, along it in depth we mark 37 mm (in the case of an overlay facade) and 37+16 mm (in the case of an inset facade and 16 mm on both sides of the axis.

We fix the counter plate with self-tapping screws.

We install the facade itself, to do this we insert the shoulder groove under the fixing screw of the strip, while making sure that the notch on the adjusting screw takes its place in the groove on the counter strip.

Tighten all screws.

You can start adjusting the facade.
