Brazier with electric skewers. Homemade kit. How to assemble a practical electric grill with your own hands Do-it-yourself rotating mechanism on the grill

Modern technical solutions allow you to cook meat automatically. An example of this are electric grills. And there are several options for execution. Let's look at it in detail.

Why is it needed?

Those who often cook barbecue for several years can say that electric drives for barbecue are not needed. And this is explained by the systematic approach to roasting meat; food is cooked on coals with a push, as if it were finishing. Some argue that turning over affects the taste, but in practice no one comparative analyzes did not produce.

It happens to kebab lovers that there is a good crust on the outside, but everything is raw on the inside. It is for these cases that an automatic electric grill is provided. The electric drive for the grill on each skewer allows you to:

  • Fry evenly. Thanks to measured turns, minimal loss juice The meat turns out quite juicy and soft.
  • No burning of fat. Typically, fatty meat simply melts, dripping onto the coals. Hence the flame. The electric drive eliminates this.
  • There is no need to do the same type of mechanical work. It can simply monitor the coal and the rate of rotation.

As a result, there is no need to constantly monitor the cooking process. You just need to buy a quality product, mix a good marinade and wait for your favorite dish to cook.

For the already prepared automatic barbecue You can purchase a drive for skewers. It's inexpensive, but it won't last long. And also many retail chains on warm seasons provide portable barbecues with electric drives, for example, Megagrill grill. Cost for 2018 from 3,000 rubles. Yes, for some it is expensive. Therefore, let’s try to assemble a barbecue with our own hands from improvised means. simple diagram.

We will need

For a classic grill with electric skewers, we get:

  • electric motor,
  • drill,
  • grinder,
  • pulley
  • belt or bicycle chain,
  • gears for the number of skewers.

It is optimal to use an electric motor from a toy or car drive as a motor.

Gears are sometimes ground, but more often they are simply bought. It is better if all the parts do not rust.

We carry out installation

We already install a system on the finished grill for rotating skewers with our own hands.

The order is as follows:

  1. We install the engine.
  2. We fasten the gears at a convenient distance of 5–7 cm from each other.
  3. We tighten the chain so that the entire system sits tightly on it. It is advisable to adapt it last.
  4. It is better to fix the gears on a separate plate, and then install it to the barbecue box.
  5. The engine must be placed on its side from the outside. It is more convenient to weld fasteners (hooks) and hang the device on them.

How to install gears correctly

Rotation will be ensured due to the fact that gears are connected to each skewer. From one to the other, the skewers receive the same speed.

When all the elements are mounted to the plate, you need to tension the chain:

  1. From the very beginning they tighten on the first gear and pulley.
  2. Then they move on to the second.
  3. Afterwards the chain is passed on top to the third.

We get something like a snake from a chain or belt. And after correct installation such an element must be protected. Just a strip of steel or a triangular profile will do.

Purchased drive

Often two simple element For such a system it is impossible to assemble it even for a spit for a barbecue. To avoid difficulties, we purchase ready-made types drive for skewers. Its classic type works from battery. It is clear that the battery will rotate at a minimum speed. And visually this device is a nozzle that can be placed on any surface made of steel or brick.

The purchased unit is quite mobile, it’s nice to take it with you on the road. Important Feature the possibility of adjusting the rotation speed. We have a built-in electric motor with a gearbox.

After a hard day spent at summer cottage, people want to please themselves and their loved ones with quick “snacks”. By building an electric grill at the dacha with his own hands, the owner will have this opportunity. Equipped with a mechanism for automatically turning the skewers, the fryer will not need constant attention.

Design features

The main disadvantage of traditional barbecues is that an experienced cook must be nearby at all times to ensure that the meat does not burn during the cooking process, because fire is the enemy of barbecue. The observer has to sit at the grill all the time, soaking in the smoke and inhaling fragments of soot.

Automatic adaptation solves many issues at once:

  1. This frees up time that can be spent on other household chores.
  2. The kebab is fried much more evenly than under human supervision, without charring, the meat turns out juicier and softer.
  3. By purchasing an additional grill with a spit, you can cook several dishes on the device at the same time, saving time.
  4. The grill with all the accessories has compact dimensions, is easy to disassemble, and does not take up much space during storage.
  5. The device cleans quickly.
You can assemble a barbecue like this yourself

This is interesting:how to make a spit for a barbecue with your own hands.

The only serious drawback is that there must be a power source nearby. It turns out that cooking can only be done near a residential building, from where it is easy to reach the carrying cord. But on a picnic in the forest or on a river bank, it will be useless unless you get an additional battery.

In addition, you will have to take into account energy costs.

It is also worth mentioning the fact that, according to gourmets, kebab prepared in this way differs in taste from that grilled on a regular grill. But this, it seems to us, is a controversial issue.

Video “Do-it-yourself electric grill”

From this video you will learn how you can upgrade your grill and add an electric drive for skewers:

Purchased electric drive

For those who are not comfortable with technology, it will be easier to purchase a ready-made drive in a store. This approach eliminates difficulties; moreover, a purchased electric drive is often equipped with a proprietary battery.

Structurally, the magazine drive is an ordinary attachment that can be easily attached to any flat surface. The drive can be powered by batteries, however, the rotation speed will be minimal. Devices are available equipped with a speed controller.

There are ready-made grills with electric drive available for sale. The meat is fried from a filament on vertically positioned skewers, the juice and fat flow into the provided recesses. The taste of shish kebab fried from a heating element is really different from meat cooked over a fire, but you can use such a device even in a city apartment.

How to do it yourself

If you need a stationary grill, it’s easier to make it yourself. In this case, the device can turn out to be massive. A solid foundation is provided for it.

The simplest device should include two main elements:

  1. Engine. Can be removed from any unnecessary electrical appliance, a microwave or an electric toy will do. It would be good if the engine is equipped with a gearbox that allows you to regulate the speed of rotation of the skewers.
  2. Rotation mechanism. Good decision will use an ordinary bicycle chain and several sprocket gears. The gears can be turned, but it’s easier to buy them, preferably with a coating that prevents rust.

The prepared materials will need to be secured on a metal plate equipped with a shaft with bearings. The plate will be mounted outside the fryer; for this purpose, bolts are provided in it.

Principle of operation homemade apparatus: the switched on motor will begin to rotate the gears, which will gradually transmit torque to all parts in turn, causing the skewers fixed in the holes to rotate.

To create such a device you will need a drill and a grinder.

Don't forget about 2 main elements

Making a box

Those who do not have a barbecue itself will have to make a brazier as well. Needed for installation metal sheets approximately 3 mm thick. They are cut, then cut with a grinder to create the bottom of the roasting pan and four sides in the form of a rectangle.

Manufacturing proceeds as follows:

  1. Each plate is fixed in turn in a vice, then holes with a diameter of 1 cm begin to be drilled.
  2. In the walls they are placed at the bottom in increments of 3 cm. The heat from the coals will be drawn through them.
  3. Holes in the bottom are made with a smaller distance. They are needed for ash removal.
  4. All parts are welded into a box - the body of the future barbecue.
  5. In the upper part of the long sides, recesses are drilled into which the skewers will be inserted. The distance between the notches is equal to the width of the gear with a minimum tolerance of 0.5 cm.

Now all that remains is to “plant” the roasting pan on its legs.

Engine selection

It is advisable to select a 12 W motor. You can borrow it from:

  • window regulator;
  • car wiper;
  • microwaves;
  • battery-powered screwdriver;
  • replaceable timing phase;
  • outdated electric stove with grill function.

More on initial stage It’s worth deciding whether your motor will be powered by electricity, batteries or a battery. However, one does not interfere with the other. By making the power supply universal, you can be powered from an outlet while staying with your family at the dacha, or from a battery when the whole group is going on a picnic.

Assembling skewers

To rotate, the ends of the skewers are inserted into the centers of rotation gears connected together in common system. Two types of torque transmission from electric motor shafts to gears are used:

  1. Serrated. The mechanism is compact. Forms an overly hard transmission and makes a lot of noise. The transmission constantly has to be lubricated during operation.
  2. Using flexible elements. A bicycle chain, belt, thick tape or cord are suitable for this purpose. Unfortunately, soft parts (belt, tape) can slip from time to time, and such a mechanism cannot be called durable. The device will work bigger size, you will have to take into account the increased load on the shafts and supports.

You can start rotating from the central gear, which will begin to move its neighbors on both sides. Another option is to turn one of the outermost ones, which transmits the moment to the one adjacent to it, etc. This mechanism forces the skewers to rotate in one direction, so that the skewered meat will not cling. The juice is also distributed more evenly, falling on neighboring pieces, making their surface more juicy.

When rotating in different directions, the friction force of the skewers against each other increases, which is why they can even fall out of their sockets, i.e. the presence of a person will not be superfluous. The gears are installed strictly perpendicular; even a slight misalignment can jam the mechanism.

Experienced cooks have noticed that the meat should receive the main portion of heat in the initial 2-3 minutes of cooking. To achieve this, it is advisable to heat it manually - first on one side, then on the other. As a result, a crust is formed that will not allow the juice to flow out. Only after this the skewers are connected to the rotating mechanism of the electric grill and automatic uniform frying begins.

There is probably no person who would not love a truly high-quality vacation, but few people know how to create the conditions for this. While relaxing in nature, most people do nothing but cook most time, and then they eat and really rest. Although almost the entire process of cooking on the grill can be avoided, and you can only come on time and replace the skewers with new ones. And while the person is resting, an automatic electric drive works for him, which rotates around the axis of the skewer, so that the meat does not burn and is completely cooked.

Among all the electric barbecues, it is better to choose one that has heating elements inside the grill rods. high power. This will allow the fat from the meat to caramelize, giving any dish a distinct flavor.

Making a barbecue

  1. Steel plates 4 mm.
  2. Welding machine.
  3. Drill.
  4. Angle 4 mm.
  5. Screws with nuts.
  6. Roulette.
  7. Dye.

There are many DIY variations, but the most commonly used classic version made of steel plates, but in this case it will have to be modified a little, because an additional mechanism will be used.

DIY barbecue diagram: a - side view; b - top view (the lower mesh is shown in section); c - arrangement of legs on wheels; g - frypot lid (galvanized steel sheet 0.9 mm thick); d - scoop; e - fan; g - poker; h - skewer; 1 - handle with hooks (wire 010 mm from of stainless steel, 2 pcs.); 2 - under (kiln brick); 3 - brazier (steel sheet 4 mm thick); 4 - leg (pipe 03/4″, 4 pcs.); 5 - supply of firewood; 6 - longitudinal connection (pipe 01/2″, 2 pcs.); 7- cross member (pipe 01/2″, 2 pcs.); 8 - mesh (wire 02 mm); 9 - handle with table; 10 - fan fan (duralumin sheet); 11 - fan handle (wood).

You need 2 pairs of plates, one of which will have a length of 30 cm and a similar height (if desired, you can add 5-7 cm), and the other with the same height has no formal restrictions on length (everyone looks at their own discretion depending on the quantity family members), 1 more is made below for the entire area. The first are called transverse, the second longitudinal, the third - lower. Interesting feature is that one of the longitudinal plates will be 2.5 cm higher than the other, and at the very top will have a row of holes with a diameter of 1.5 cm in order to fit any skewer.

Each longitudinal plate is installed in a vice in turn, and a series of holes are drilled in it in increments of 3 cm at the very bottom, after which the procedure is repeated staggered 1-2 mm higher. Each hole should be 8-10 mm in diameter. These 2 rows of holes on each side will serve to supply air to the fire. For the same purpose, the bottom plate is also perforated, but not with the same frequency, but several times less often (at the discretion of the manufacturer). If desired, you can use a grinder and make oblong holes 5 mm wide and up to 50 mm long.

The next step is to weld them together so that all the holes are on the bottom. But besides these holes there should be no other access to air (cracks, defects).

The support system for such barbecues is even simpler to create than they themselves. To do this, the perimeter is covered with a corner and then it is welded - this will be the frame at the support. The legs can be made collapsible, or vertical ones can be welded from the same corner. If you are interested in a completely collapsible option, then take a corner, steel plates (fortunately there will be plenty of waste by this time) are welded to the bottom and top of the future legs. After which the frame is drilled in the corners, and the plates on the legs are drilled in the center. After this, a screw is threaded through the hole and secured with a nut on the side of the leg. In order to small parts not lost, they are fixed in their places with paint.

Electrical system

  1. Electric motor 12 V.
  2. Inverter.
  3. Gears.
  4. Leather or metal belts.
  5. Soldering iron.

One barbecue is, of course, very good, but it is much more pleasant if he does the frying himself, and the person’s task during frying is only to replace the skewers, and for this it is necessary to make and install an electric drive. You can create a system with a drive in two ways - simple and complex, but in both cases a motor is used that is powered by 12 V.

The simple approach requires a motor and a step-down inverter. This design It is connected using a metal or leather belt and is easy to install. The only negative is the manufacturing price and difficulty in finding the required part, because A step-down inverter doesn't get any easier to find every year. In addition, repairs can also be difficult if a person does not particularly understand the mechanism, because. There are no such workshops in nature.

Although the entire automatic electric drive can be made with your own hands.

To do this, you only need basic knowledge of physics and a memory of the structure of a bicycle. The larger the main sprocket and the smaller the rear one, the higher the speed will be with less effort; accordingly, everything can be turned in the reverse order and gears can be used. In this case, it will be difficult to find the lowest-speed motor, attach the smallest gear to its original part, and attach the largest gear to the grill, to which the same gear is soldered.

After which the system is repeated again in the workspace. Thus, with the help of 4 gears, you can reduce the torque many times and select the last gear on the spot, which will control the final speed.

The last option looks cumbersome only in the description, but in the end it will not be much larger than a purchased inverter. An automatic electric drive for a barbecue made in this way will serve almost indefinitely, because... Repairing it will take no more than 10-20 minutes and the price will be a pittance.

As a result, the kebab is cooked and slowly rotates by electric drive over the coals, the owners relax heartily, and one can only hope that no one forgot to charge the battery before resting.

Device for rotating skewers “Shashlychnik”

The video shows the first activation of the grill with electric skewers and rotating gears. A total of 8 skewers can be installed. This is completely homemade installation. The gears are handmade from fluoroplastic. Motor with 27 Volt gearbox, can be powered by a 12 Volt, 0.7 Ampere power supply. Consumes 350 milliamps, that is, it can be powered from simple adapters. Can be powered from a car battery using an uninterruptible power supply. At 6 volts the speed will be 7 revolutions per minute. At 12 volts 10 revolutions.

Buy barbecues in this Chinese store.
You can see how evenly the roasting occurs. With gear transmission, the skewers rotate towards each other. PTFE gears are good because they are less noisy than metal ones. They are made according to a preliminary pattern using a shoemaker's knife. Two duralumin dies were made, fluoroplastic was clamped between them, and then the gears were cut out. The second video shows all this.

Development based on an old kebab maker

The May holidays are coming soon. The weather will be warm outside. This means that we will see our friends, family and loved ones more often. How can moments like these be complete without a delicious barbecue cooked over a fire? That's why. Let's make a simple device that will rotate the skewers while cooking kebab. To make the structure, the author of the design took what was left of an old kebab maker. These are gears, a motor that is powered from the network AC voltage. All you need to do is weld a frame from a corner and attach all the parts to it.
The rotation of the engine is transmitted to a series of gears, each of which has a skewer attached.
Convenience automatic design The point is that the kebabs are fried evenly on all sides.

Barbecue with rotating skewers

The video shows the mechanism for turning kebabs. 9 bicycle sprockets used. The front axles were cut in half and sprockets were welded on. Holes are drilled in the axle. The key is installed. Motorcycle chain. The bicycle chain turned out to be unreliable. Motor from car wipers. To prevent the skewer from falling out, a protective bar is installed. The mechanism is fastened with two bolts. According to the author of the development, it is impossible to say that the device is fully automatic. He turns it himself, but he has to regulate the fire himself. Fire for barbecue is the enemy. The advantage is that the roasting occurs evenly, the kebab does not burn. The height of the skewers is adjustable. The voltage is supplied from the power supply from the PC. I took the output to 5.5 volts.

Automatic spit for barbecue

We present to your attention a grill that will glorify you as an extraordinary cook. To do this, you don’t have to study special recipes or take culinary training courses. This model was developed by people who were tired of swallowing smoke and casting envious glances at their vacationing neighbors. The innovative autonomous drive system ensures the rotation of the skewers without human intervention.
The grill operates from a power supply and provides automatic rotation of the skewers. You can close the lid in which the pipe is installed and continue preparing a delicious dish with smoke.

For more than fifteen years I have been frying shashlik and other delicacies on a folding grill, and it has always served me flawlessly.

But sometimes it’s not convenient to be constantly near the grill, and so the idea came to make sure that the skewers rotate themselves using an electric drive.

What came out of this, see in this video:

The video shows how kebabs and other delicacies are prepared on a self-modernized grill with an automatic skewers rotation system.

In my “Lazy Shish Kebab” Set some things are made with my own hands “from scratch”, some things are bought and remade...

I'll be honest - very convenient device turned out, which really helps without much effort to get exactly that juicy and delicious kebab, which we all love so much!

And even friends who have stationary brick barbecues (at their dachas and in private houses) often ask me to take my set with them when they invite me to visit.

To learn how to make a direct electric drive for rotating skewers, as well as how to refine the rotation mechanism itself, see the following video:

Attention! In the video I'm using the XL6009 boost converter. But, in Lately I began to come across converters that did not work correctly at input voltages below 3.6 V, and now I recommend using MT3608 DC-DC converters instead. Therefore, an external variable resistor of 100-200 kOhm will be needed.
