Installing a sink above the washing machine. What are brackets. Installing a sink on a wall-hung shelf

In our life everything flows, everything changes, the old is replaced by the new. An old sink in the kitchen or bathroom may also require replacement. In any residential area, it is one of the main and indispensable elements of plumbing.

Integrated sink built into work surface table using the mount that is included in the kit.

Installing a new sink in a kitchen or bathroom can be done by hand.

To do this, it is not necessary to have special professional training. How to attach a sink to a wall? First you need to decide on the choice of this product.

Choosing a sink model

It is recommended to start with a shopping trip in order to select this very necessary plumbing equipment. There are many models of this product. They all differ in shape, size and mounting methods. The sink and washbasin can be wall-mounted, mounted on a pedestal or mounted on a countertop. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Wall mounting leaves plenty of free space under the washbasin. This makes cleaning easier and you can install various items underneath. The product must be secured through the holes in the rear using the screws included in the mounting kit. Subsequently, a mixer and siphon are installed on the sink.

A pedestal washbasin used to be called a tulip sink. This design allows you to hide a siphon, outlet pipes and hoses inside the pedestal. This gives the room a more attractive look.

An example of a scheme for attaching a sink to a wall.

The pedestal makes it possible to install a more massive, beautiful and functional sink. The tulip sink is attached to the wall with dowel pins. They are equipped with plastic protective washers. Such washbasins can be installed both in the bathroom and in the kitchen.

In a medium-sized bathroom, many people prefer to install a washbasin with a countertop. It can be a mortise, counter-mounted, built-in sink or monoblock. All of them add special comfort to the bathroom. The main difference between such a device and a tulip is that it often does not have a hole for the mixer. Therefore, when laying water supply pipes, their conclusions are made so that the mixer can be attached directly to them without the use of flexible hoses.

Tools for work

To install plumbing, depending on its type, you may need:

  • construction level;
  • perforator with drills;
  • dowels;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • pencil (felt-tip pen, marker);
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • wrench or adjustable wrench;
  • sink;
  • set of fasteners;
  • ruler (preferably meter);
  • hammer;
  • silicone sealant.

Sink installation procedure

Carry out the work of installing a sink mounted to the wall in the following order:

Installation diagram for a pedestal sink.

  1. Selecting a location for installing the product. It is recommended to install the washbasin at a height of 75-85 cm, counting from the floor. In some cases, the height can be changed in one direction or another in order to create ease of use for people of non-standard height.
  2. Using a level, draw a horizontal line at the installation height of the product.
  3. Measure the thickness of the walls of the sink that will rest on the mounting brackets. Set this dimension down from the previously drawn line.
  4. Find the middle back wall washbasin. Mark this point on the wall.
  5. Measure the distance from the middle of the back wall to the brackets.
  6. Attach the brackets to the bottom line at a distance equal to the previous measurement, and use a pencil to make marks on the wall through the mounting holes.
  7. Drill holes in the wall according to the marks, install dowels in them and secure the brackets.
  8. Place the sink on the brackets. Make marks through the holes in the back wall.
  9. Remove the sink, drill holes, install dowels.
  10. Put everything in place and finally secure it using the fasteners included in the kit.
  11. Install a siphon and connect the system to the sewer.
  12. Seal the gaps between the sink and the wall with sealant.

This product is fastened to the wall using brackets. They are not included in the kit. When choosing, it is recommended to choose a gusset bracket of the required length.

Sometimes, along with a sink, you have to install a pedestal or cabinet in the bathroom or kitchen. In this case, there is no need to mark the installation height of the sink. This size is dictated by the height of the pedestal or cabinet.

Washbasin installation drawing

Installation of the sink on the pedestal is carried out in the following order:

  • the sink without fittings is installed on a pedestal and moved towards the wall where it will be located;
  • a marker marks the locations for drilling holes;
  • the sink and pedestal are removed and holes are drilled. Their depth and diameter must correspond to the length and diameter of the dowels from the fastener kit;
  • The dowels are installed in the holes and the pins are screwed into them.

To attach the faucet to the sink you need:

  • assemble the mixer according to the instructions for it;
  • install it in a special hole on the sink;
  • firmly fix the mixer on the body of the product;
  • check the symmetry of the installation of the mixer on the sink relative to its center.

Connecting the mixer to the water supply system:

  1. Flexible hoses for water supply are attached to the mixer. They must have a metal braid and rubber cuffs at the tips. When installing them, do not use much force.
  2. The hoses are pulled through the o-ring and the hole in the sink.
  3. The mixer is attached to the product using spring washers and nuts.
  4. The outlet from the siphon kit is installed in the hole for draining water. It is secured with a screw or nut. It depends on the design. 2 gaskets are installed between the outlet and the sink.
  5. The siphon itself is attached to the outlet, to which the pipe is connected plastic diameter 32-40 mm for connection to the sewer. You can replace it with a corrugated hose of the same diameter.
  6. The sink with the pedestal moves up to the wall and is fixed on it with nuts and protective washers.
  7. Flexible hoses are connected to the water supply, and the outlet pipe is connected to the sewer.

Siphon diagram.

Connecting the sink to the sewer:

  1. Assemble the siphon according to the instructions.
  2. Secure it in the sink drain hole, facing Special attention on correct location rubber pads.
  3. Connect the siphon hose to the sewer pipe.
  4. experience assembled structure for water leakage. To do this, open the taps and let water in at different pressures. If drops of water appear, the nuts should be tightened.

A sink is usually installed in the countertop. Installation of the product in the countertop is carried out after measuring the sink and cabinet. Most sinks are sold with a template that marks and cuts the hole for the sink. If the template is not included, proceed as follows:

  1. Piece thick paper laid out on a table or other flat surface.
  2. The product is placed upside down on paper and its outline is outlined with a pencil or felt-tip pen. They retreat from the line at a distance equal to the size of the sides. Cut out the template.

Preparing a recess in a countertop requires great care and precision. You need to leave a distance of approximately 5 cm from the edge of the tabletop. The template is applied to the surface and outlined with a pencil. Several holes are drilled along the outlined contour with a drill. If the product is rectangular, then it is enough to drill holes in the corners of the contour. The jigsaw blade is inserted into the hole and a cut is made along the contour. The edges of the sawn recess are sanded and treated with a waterproofing compound.

The sink-sink is attached to the countertop by applying it to the side silicone sealant. After this, all that remains is to install the siphon and mixer, and connect the water. Some models of sinks can additionally be attached to the countertop with special clamps using wrenches and screwdrivers. Such sinks are usually not used in the bathroom.

Fastening to drywall

In many apartments the walls are lined various materials. As facing material Drywall is often used. If, when finishing the wall, plasterboard was attached without a frame, then there will not be any particular difficulties in installing plumbing. Most often, drywall is mounted on lathing. In this case, there remains empty space between the wall and the cladding. Attaching a sink to such a wall is not very easy. The best way out is to lay wooden bars and a double layer of facing material in the right places when installing the battens for drywall. You can attach a sink or washbasin to these bars. In places where the sink and other items are attached, it is better to replace the drywall with its analogue - a glass-magnesium sheet. A xylofiber sheet, popularly called Chinese drywall, is also suitable.

If the drywall is already installed, then the solution is this:

  • using a magnet suspended on a strong thread, you need to find the location of the metal elements of the crate;
  • Self-tapping screws are screwed into these places to secure the sink.

But this method is not always applicable.

There are special fastening devices for drywall. The most common are SA-U3, “Butterfly” fastening and “Snail” dowel-nail. If the plasterboard on the wall has a thickness of 12 mm or more, then this fastener is suitable for attaching the sink to the wall.

The question of how to attach the sink to the wall turned out to be not very difficult. Installing any type of sink yourself is a completely doable task. With some skills in using basic tools, any man can handle this job.

The washbasin is a key element of the sanitary and hygienic purpose of any home. The need for replacement which may arise due to various reasons. And the comfort and convenience of its subsequent use depends on how correctly the sink is installed in the bathroom.

Plumbing work of this level can be carried out by anyone if they follow certain rules.

The main stages of work are:

Selection of equipment for installing a sink in the bathroom;

Preliminary preparation of tools and related materials for dismantling the old washbasin and installing a new one;

Dismantling of old equipment;

Directly replacing the sink with your own hands;

Connecting the tap and connecting it to the water supply;

Connecting the drain to the sewer;

Testing plumbing products for performance.

DIY sink installation: preparation

Installing a sink in a bathroom requires a thoughtful solution not only in terms of aesthetics, functionality, but also in terms of installation possibilities.

Today, the following options for sinks are offered, differing in the type of installation: wall-mounted, built-in and pedestal.

However, it should be remembered that when replacing a bathroom sink, it is necessary to take into account where and how the nodes for connecting to the sewer are located and the location of the water pipes. This will minimize subsequent modifications when installing new equipment.

To “fit” a new sink into the place of the previous one, you must first take measurements, which you will rely on when choosing a washbasin. Key parameters– length, width and depth of the washbasin.

To successfully replace your sink with your own hands, you may need the following tools and materials:

Set of screwdrivers, pliers;

Special plumbing keys;

Connecting pipes;

Silicone sealant;

Spatula, bucket, rag.

Remember: do-it-yourself sink replacement begins with blocking the source of water supply.

As a rule, the main valve is located at the inlet in front of the water meter or directly under the sink itself. After turning it off, make sure that hot and cold water does not flow.

DIY sink installation: dismantling

1. To replace your bathroom sink, you first need to disconnect water pipes from the tap. Be careful: this may cause accumulated water to leak out. Prepare a bucket and rag in advance.

2. Find the place where the sink drain trap and the drain into the sewer connect. Using a tool, disconnect the sink from the drain by pointing the siphon outlet towards the bucket.

3. Using an adjustable wrench, dismantle the water supply system (cold and hot flow).

4. Disconnect the fasteners that secure the sink to the wall.

5. Using a putty knife, carefully remove the old sealant and separate the sink from the wall and adjacent surface.

6. Remove the old sink and clean the installation area for the new sink.

To competently replace a sink with your own hands, take into account the dimensions of the new equipment: analyze whether there is enough space to install it in the old place. In this case, it is convenient to use a specially made template or just a tape measure. Often, ready-made templates for cutting out under the sink are included with the sink. Perhaps, given the new dimensions, the replacement of the bathroom sink will require additional work.

In the case of installation of taps and a faucet from an old washbasin on new equipment, remove the taps and fix them on the new sink, do not forget to treat the joints with sealant.

New sinks usually come complete with clamps and screws. The faucet is equipped with a drain. If they are not available, purchase additional equipment separately. Make sure that the supply pipes match the faucet and fittings under the washing surface.

DIY sink installation: INSTALLATION

1. When installing the sink in the bathroom, you must first apply a layer of silicone sealant to the bottom base of the upper "lip" of the washbasin, and then fix it to the place of the old equipment, into the recess on the wall. Fix the sink in the hole and remove excess silicone.

In the event that the installation of the sink in the bathroom requires fastening to the wall or a stone counter is used, then you will need to pre-prepare the areas for fixing the equipment - drill holes in the wall. This requires diamond-tipped drills.

2. Secure the washbasin with clamps, following the instructions step by step.

3. Install the shank drain siphon. If a gasket is included between the shank and the sink, then secure it with a nut, locknut and cardboard washer. At the point of connection to the sewer, an additional seal of the appropriate configuration will be required. When connecting pipes, use Teflon tape or special gaskets as a sealant.

4. When connecting the faucet to the water pipe, use hoses of sufficient length so as not to increase the load on the connections. Tighten them with wrench. The tightening force should not be excessive so as not to destroy the sealing gasket.

5. Treat all cracks and joints with sealant and let it dry for 24 hours.

6. Testing plumbing fixtures for functionality. Open the valve, then turn on the faucet. If minor leaks are detected at the joints, tighten the fasteners more firmly, but do not overdo it. If tightening the joints in some places does not produce results, then the seals may have to be replaced.

If no leak is detected and the entire system is functioning properly, then we can assume that the replacement of the bathroom sink has been successfully completed.

The furnishings in the bathroom should be stylish and match the overall interior of the room. Each element should provide convenience and comfort, this applies to the washbasin. This element is the main one, so you need to approach its arrangement with particular care. Installing a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom will not take too much time, and this element looks very attractive. In addition, there is now a huge variety of cabinets in color, size, style that will fit perfectly into the design of the room and will suit any size of the room.

The washbasin with cabinet has been selected, now you need to select appropriate place in the bathroom for its installation. Be sure to consider the dimensions; the product must fit exactly into its place. It would be nice to place it near the bathtub, this will ensure ease of use.

It is better to select the area for installing the cabinets before work on the distribution of communications and pipes begins.

  • measurements are taken of the bathroom room and divided into sections;
  • think about where the location of the bathtub, shower, and sink should be;
  • be sure to take into account the presence of shelves, drawers. They can become an obstacle to the supply of pipes and fittings for connecting water to the mixer. It is better to provide for this option earlier, move the shelves so that they do not interfere with plumbing fixtures. You may need to trim it a little, but do it carefully, do not damage the structure of the furniture, do not spoil it appearance;
  • in cases where the sewerage system comes out of flooring, and in this area it is planned to install a cabinet, then in this case everything is simple. In order for the product to fit into the place and not disturb the sewer elements, its bottom must be trimmed. It is imperative that after trimming the bottom, the edges are treated with a protective base.

How to install

The washbasin for the cabinets has been selected, the place has been prepared, we proceed to the installation itself. Typically this piece of furniture is sold together with the necessary mounting hardware, connecting elements, and sometimes included necessary tools for assembly, installation. There is a diagram or installation instructions available. But you are unlikely to have to use a diagram or instructions; usually the design is so simple that you can install it yourself. And if you don’t need to trim, file for plumbing, communications, then this will take a maximum of 1-2 hours.

Pay attention to the quality of the fittings

Mixer installation rules

Before you begin installing the cabinets, you should install the mixer and siphon:

  • The mixer should be accompanied by instructions with an installation diagram, with the help of which this process will become much easier. The kit should include several pins, two washers (rubber and moon-shaped), a round gasket for the lower part;
  • you need to screw two hoses to the mixer, intended for hot and cold water. You should be especially careful when choosing hoses; rubber hoses have low strength and often break and leak. The best option There will be products made of metal-plastic material. Do not tighten it too tightly, otherwise the gaskets will be damaged and the connection will leak;

Connecting hot and cold water

  • Studs are fixed into small holes at the bottom of the mixer;
  • install the gasket and insert the faucet into the hole in the sink. And on the bottom side you need to put a moon-shaped washer on the studs, and a rubber washer is placed on top of it;
  • The washers are secured with nuts. The nuts are installed on the studs and tightened thoroughly so that the faucet stands firmly on the sink. Some faucets are secured with a large nut on the bottom side for greater reliability;
  • after that we proceed to install the siphon. First of all, we check all the parts of the siphon; there may be burrs on them. If they are present, they should be carefully cut off. Otherwise, after installation, gaps will form at the joints, through which unpleasant odors will subsequently pass;

Connecting the siphon to the drain hole

  • on the drain hole we put an overlay with holes, insert a long screw into the center;
  • a receiving type pipe with a rubber seal is placed under the drain hole;
  • The cover and the pipe should be secured with a screw. We tighten the screw as tightly as possible so that the pipe fits snugly enough against the sink;
  • the remaining part is collected after assembling the cabinets and installing the sink. A compression nut with a conical gasket should be placed on the pipe. We screw the top part and secure the siphon lid.

Installing a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom is not difficult on your own, if you listen to some recommendations:

  • First of all, let's start assembling the cabinets. Usually they should be accompanied by instructions to facilitate the work, but they are unlikely to come in handy. This process is quite simple. The main thing is to make sure that the screws and fasteners are firmly secured. After installing the cabinet under the sink, this will be difficult to accomplish;

Assembly diagram for the washbasin cabinet

  • Once the cabinet is assembled, we begin arranging the sink. It is no different in appearance and functions from those sold separately, it’s just that the washbasin is made to fit the size of the bedside table and is used to complete it;
  • connect the siphon to the drain;

The siphon is installed by screwing it to the washbasin drain hole

  • We place the sink with the faucet already installed on it on the cabinet. Typically, metal corners are used to hold these elements together;
  • we move the washbasin and cabinet closer to the place where we plan to install these elements;

A sink with a siphon and a mixer is placed on a cabinet and moved towards the wall

  • Points for bolts should already be marked on the surface of the wall, on which the washbasin should then be secured. The marking is done independently. For greater accuracy, it is better to bring the washbasin to the wall and accurately measure the points. Using a tape measure you still won’t be able to achieve the required accuracy;

Markings on the wall for a future cabinet

  • We move the washbasin with the cabinet back and drill at the marked points;
  • After the holes are made, the bolts that come with the product should be inserted into them. When purchasing a product, be sure to check the presence of these elements; sometimes sellers simply forget to include them. And so that you don’t have to buy them separately, check their availability;
  • Now you need to install the sink and cabinet in place, screw everything in with bolts;
  • We check how the sink and cabinet stand. If everything is stable, does not wobble, and the product stands tightly to the surface of the wall, then everything is done correctly;

The process of installing a cabinet under the sink

  • At the end we connect the sewer. The mixer hoses must be connected to pipes with cold and hot water. The hoses are connected using a union nut and a rubber gasket;
  • Next, we seal the holes and connections. Sealing must be done, this will help avoid unexpected leaks;
  • at the end the siphon is connected to the sewer pipe. In order to seal all kinds of holes, you need to use a special rubber gasket or corrugated cuff;

Installing a sink on a cabinet - the final stage of work

  • It is important that before you start using the washbasin, it is better to check it for leaks; if there are none, then you can safely start using it.

What to do if there are no mounting holes on the cabinet

Sometimes products may not have holes for mounting to the wall. Basically, this problem often occurs with cabinets made in Turkey. Some consumers believe that it is quite difficult to attach this product to the wall in the bathroom and try not to purchase designs.

What to do when the product has already been purchased? Many people think that they can refuse and return it to the seller. Yes, of course, this can be done, but not always. The product may not be accepted, for many reasons. And if it is damaged and has defects, then it will definitely not be accepted back. If, of course, you want to waste time and nerves, then you can try. As a result, maybe they will replace it with a cabinet with holes. And if that doesn’t work, you can try installing a structure without holes.

It can be installed using a simple method:

  • ordinary silicone is used as fastening instead of bolts;
  • due to the fact that the structure rests on the cabinet, it will firmly adhere to the silicone mixture;
  • it is important that the wall surface is strong and its covering is made of high-quality tiles;
  • in this case, there is no need to drill the surface of the walls, leaving them in strength and good condition. And the appearance of the design will remain in perfect condition.

Silicone sink mount

Installing a cabinet using silicone is suitable for those who do not want to spoil their bathroom wall covering, especially if it is of low strength. In addition, this installation method is much faster than using bolts and drilling.

Installing a bathroom vanity with vanity is a simple process that does not require great work and knowledge. You can do everything yourself without resorting to the help of professionals. The main thing is to choose a suitable design and correctly calculate the place for its installation. With this approach, you can get a comfortable, stylish, functional room.

One of the indispensable attributes of any kitchen is the sink. It is required to the same extent as a stove (gas or electric). But installing a sink in the kitchen with your own hands is much easier than connecting a stove, if you know the basic instructions and the typical secrets of such work.

Different sinks are needed, different sinks are important

Indeed, kitchen sinks are produced in a wide range of products, which can make your eyes wide open in a specialized plumbing store. Kitchen sinks can be divided into at least six categories:

  • Wall-mounted, mortise and overhead sinks. Mounted option is now rare, it is more relevant for communal apartments and government institutions than for modern renovation. But inset and overmount sinks compete with each other in popularity; their long-term reliability and aesthetic appeal are comparable;
  • Sinks made of stainless steel alloys, chrome-plated or nickel-plated, sinks made of natural granite or porcelain stoneware artificial stone, acrylic and even glass (!). However, due to practicality, 90% of all models are made of stainless steel and representative porcelain stoneware;
  • Sinks are angular and standard, round, oval, square, rectangular and shaped. The more intricate the shape of the sink, the more difficult it is to give it impeccable cleanliness and maintain a sparkling shine on a daily basis. After all, the sink is used not for beauty in the living room, but for mundane household needs in the kitchen;
  • By design, a distinction is made between ordinary single sinks and sinks with two bowls (one or different sizes, the same or various shapes etc.). There are convenient models with water overflow from one bowl to another;
  • According to the location of the mixer - on the wall or on the sink itself (the first option is rare);
  • According to availability additional options– the ability to install a water filter, outlets for connecting a washing machine, automatic valves for adjusting the drain, additional taps for connecting garden hoses, etc.

Shells from of stainless steel have gained overwhelming popularity due to their reasonable price, durable functionality, compatibility with a wide variety of kitchen renovations and ease of sanitization.

You can check the quality of the steel alloy of the sink right in the store - an ordinary flat magnet will stick to it very firmly, but with bad steel the magnet will “fly off” at the slightest vibration.

Granite and steel sinks are available in surface-mounted and inset versions; installing a sink in the kitchen with your own hands is possible for both. However, first we need to take care of the furniture base of our installation efforts.

How to assemble a kitchen sink - install a cabinet

Recessed and overhead sinks are installed in cabinets and cabinets, with opening (less often sliding) doors in the front and an empty opening in the back. Assembling these elements kitchen set has its own characteristics. The fact is that they do not have internal bulkheads; they can interfere with the connection of sewerage and water pipes. This means that there will be no additional stiffeners inside the cabinet. If a countertop sink is installed, even the countertop is missing; it is replaced by a steel sink panel.

The assembly of the sink cabinet should be much more reliable and durable than other parts of the kitchen set. It needs to be installed on special supports, because... Even with the best sealing, water leaks are possible. It wouldn’t hurt to treat the material itself with water-repellent compounds. Inside the bedside table, it is necessary to provide fastenings for tightening jumpers - they are installed after connecting the sink to the communications for the strength of the entire structure. The lintels themselves can be made from flat and thick planks, which will serve as additional mini-shelves inside the cabinet.

How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet - brief instructions

The overhead option for installing a kitchen sink can be ordinary or “slide-in”. In the latter case, the sink itself is equipped with curved slides on the side and front side, there are special grooves on the bedside table. After you have successfully assembled a sink in the kitchen, all that remains is to slide the sink into these grooves, move the structure to the wall - and you can connect the communications.

If you use a direct overhead mounting option, you will have to seal all joints. High-quality waterproof sealant combines the properties of glue and a protective waterproof composition. The upper perimeter of the open cabinet is generously coated with this composition; all that remains is to precisely place the sink itself on top.

A large and heavy surface sink must not be installed only on sealing adhesive!

Otherwise, one day it will fall into the cabinet along with the dishes, destroying the sewer and breaking off the water hoses under pressure. Negative impressions from such an accident will be available to both you and the neighbors below. As well as the elimination of plumbing collapse and the repair of two rooms already from the personal budget. How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet without the risk of such an incident? Using auxiliary bars or internal sheathing.

Simple overhead sinks are usually equipped with additional fasteners. Massive bars, precisely screwed with wrong side cabinets. It is necessary to accurately mark the lower edge of the pre-installed (without glue!) Shell and build an internal crate along this line. Then the sink will rely on auxiliary bars, and not on the thin end of the nightstand. The operation is similar to hidden installation of sheathing, only in the final stage it is supplemented with adhesive sealing of the junction of metal and wood.

Installing a sink in the kitchen - do-it-yourself mortise installation

Before attaching a metal sink to the pedestal using a mortise method, you need to make sure that the pedestal is strong and that it can precise installation the entire structure into the installation opening. Experiment with the movement of the bedside table in advance - after fixing the sink, this will have to be done only once. After connecting the sewerage and water supply, the bedside table with the sink should stand “like a glove”, without distortions and vibrations.

How to install a sink in the kitchen with your own hands - step-by-step diagram

Step 1: Marking

Most mortise sinks are sold with a ready-made template; it acts as a packaging container. It is enough to cut out such a template from cardboard and attach it to the countertop at the location of the sink - and the outline seat ready.

If there is no template, you will have to make it yourself. To do this, it is better to use thick cardboard (for example, from a TV or monitor). Having measured inner part sinks, transfer this size to the cardboard surface and cut off a few centimeters more. It is better to cut a piece of cardboard several times than to look for a new piece.

Step 2: Location

The proverb about the need to measure seven times before the first cut is very relevant for our work. You can move the finished template around the tabletop easily and freely - until you start sawing right through it. So take into account how the tap will open, where the filter will be, how it will be positioned kitchenware and so on.

The cardboard template should be traced as evenly and accurately as possible. To do this, attach it to the tabletop with ordinary tape and draw one thin line with a pencil. After which the “cardboard helper” peels off and goes into waste paper; we will no longer need it. We cover the perimeter of the future hole from the outside with masking tape for 8-12 cm in order to prevent it from being damaged by mechanical tools.

Step 3: Drill and saw

Yes, yes, the first mechanical tool will be a drill, not a saw. A drill with a diameter of 2 mm is selected and several closely spaced holes are drilled in the place where it is convenient to start cutting out the contour. The holes are connected into a single groove using a chisel.

It is convenient to saw the tabletop wood jigsaw. Just don’t forget to stock up on extra blades - thick tabletops are difficult to saw, and the blade is likely to break if it deviates slightly from the vertical. Take your time and move the jigsaw confidently - it is more difficult to correct a crooked cut than to immediately cut a hole along a plumb line, with a strictly perpendicular cut.

Step 4: Complete the installation

On the end of fresh mounting hole Apply sealant and insert the sink tightly. We hold the sink under load for 10 to 60 seconds (depending on the type of sealing compound). Carefully remove excess glue from the outer and inside sinks and wait several hours until the sealant completely hardens. We connect hoses, pipes, sewerage, install a faucet and use the new sink for your pleasure.

One of the essential elements of a bathroom is a sink, as it is almost impossible to do without it. In addition to the fact that this accessory provides convenient hygiene procedures, it should also fit harmoniously into the interior of the bathroom. It is not always possible to purchase a bathtub, toilet, bidet and sink at the same time, so they are often purchased at different time and from different manufacturers. Despite this, all these devices must form a single ensemble. To choose the right bathroom sink, you need to know what they are, how they differ, and also understand the main advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Types of shells

Unlike kitchen sinks Bathroom sinks come in a much wider range. In order to choose the right accessory, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • type of instalation;
  • shape and size;
  • manufacturing material.

Types of bathroom sinks by installation method

Based on the installation method, sinks are divided into the following types:

  1. With a pedestal Popularly, this design is also called a tulip. Its main feature is the presence of a leg or pedestal. This solution allows you to hide the siphon and water pipes, and also provides reliable support for the bowl. These structures have a given height, usually 70–80 cm, and if it is not enough, you will have to additionally make a stand or pedestal. It is impossible to reduce the height of the pedestal.

    The pedestal supports the sink and allows you to hide communications

  2. Invoices. Such models are installed on the countertop and protrude above it by a distance not exceeding 10 cm. After installing the countertop sink, it seems that it is a free-standing item. Such designs do not have a hole for installing a mixer, so the faucet is mounted on the countertop. For ease of use, the height of the tabletop should be no more than 85 cm.

    The countertop sink is installed on the countertop

  3. Mortise. This type of sink cuts into the countertop; this can be done both from below and from above. When inserted from below, the plumbing fixtures are located flush with the countertop, which greatly simplifies the removal of water that has fallen on it. When installing a sink on top of a countertop, it protrudes a few centimeters above it. The mixer can be installed either in the hole on the sink or on the countertop.

    A built-in sink can be mounted either above or below the countertop

  4. With wall mount. This design is also called cantilever. There is no need to install a cabinet or countertop here, since the sink is fixed directly to the wall using special fasteners. There are models of sinks with wide wings that allow you to imitate a countertop. The faucet can be installed either on the sink itself or on the wall. The main disadvantage of such models is that the connection to the water supply and sewer system remains in sight. The advantage is to free up free space, and this important point for small spaces. One of the main parameters that you need to pay attention to when choosing a bathroom sink is its size. Only a properly sized washbasin will ensure comfortable use and will not take up a lot of free space.

For small spaces, sinks with a length of 50–65 cm and a width of 40 cm are usually chosen. If you have a large room, then you can install models up to 75 cm long or a double sink, in which case two people can wash at the same time.

Having decided on the size of the sink, you can proceed to choosing its shape. The sinks are:

  • round;
  • oval;
  • rectangular or square;
  • complex shape.

Material of manufacture

A variety of materials are used in the manufacture of bathroom sinks:

  • Ceramics are the most common products. Porcelain is more expensive and of higher quality, sanitary ware is simpler and cheaper;

    The most common option is a faience sink.

  • natural or artificial marble. Although natural marble and a more expensive material, but the presence of pores in it requires more careful maintenance. Sinks made from artificial marble are practically no different in appearance from those made from natural stone but are cheaper. In addition, they have a smoother surface, which makes cleaning much easier;

Preparing for installation

Despite the large selection of bathroom sinks, their installation is almost the same. In addition to the fact that you need to firmly secure the bowl, you will also have to connect the water and drain, and install a mixer. Only high-quality execution of all stages of installation will allow you to install the sink correctly and avoid leaks.

Materials and tools

In order to install a bathroom sink yourself, you will need following materials and tools:

How to shut off the water supply

Before carrying out any plumbing work in the bathroom, you must turn off the water supply. Please note that not only cold, but also hot water is supplied to the washbasin, so you need to turn off both taps. This is done at the entrance to the apartment, and if there are additional taps, then you can stop the water supply only to the bathroom.

You need to make sure that the water pipes and drain can be connected to the selected sink model. If this is not possible, then it is necessary to lengthen the existing pipes or install new ones.

Removing an old sink

If you are replacing an old sink, it must first be removed. The work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Removing the mixer. First, disconnect the cold and hot water, after which the fastening nut is pumped out and the mixer is removed.

    To remove the mixer, you need to unscrew the nut that secures it.

  2. Removing the siphon. Unscrew the nut securing the siphon from the bottom of the sink, disconnect it from the drain and drain the water.

    To remove the siphon, you need to unscrew the nut and drain the water.

  3. Removing the sink. Remove the sink from its support - this can be a countertop, cabinet or brackets.

So that at runtime installation work the smell of their sewerage did not spread throughout the apartment; you need to cover the hole in the drain pipe with a rag.

Installation steps

Although when installing sinks different designs There are some peculiarities; the main stages of work are performed in the same way.

Installation work

Before you begin installing the sink, you first need to decide where it will be installed. At this stage the following work is performed:

  1. Determination of height. There are no strict standards for the installation height of a bathroom sink. Most experts recommend installing the sink at a level of 80–85 cm from the floor. It all depends on the height of the apartment’s residents. Choose this option so that the sink is comfortable for everyone to use.

    The installation height of the sink should be such that it is convenient for all residents to use it

  2. Installation markup:
  3. Installation of brackets. To attach the sink to the wall, you need to install brackets. They come complete with the washbasin and match its size. In the marked places, holes are made with a puncher, plastic dowels are inserted, after which the brackets are fixed to the wall. Mounting the sink on the wall is possible only if its surface has sufficient strength. When installing a sink with a pedestal, for its reliable fixation, it is also necessary to fasten the bowl to the wall. If the installation is carried out on studs, it is necessary to use plastic liners.

    A wall-hung sink can only be mounted on a solid wall.

Mixer installation

The faucet can be installed on the sink, on the wall or on the countertop. If it is placed on the bowl, then it is possible to perform installation after its installation, but experts recommend doing this before attaching the sink, so all work will be easier to do.

Installation of the mixer is carried out in the following order:

Sink mount

After installing the mixer, the sink must be secured. This stage will differ depending on the chosen model:

  1. Fastening the sink to the wall. The bowl is put on the installed studs, plastic inserts are inserted and the nuts are tightened. If the installation is carried out on brackets, then the bowl is simply placed on them.

  2. Installation of a pedestal sink. This design can be of two types:
  3. Installation of a sink with a cabinet. A curbstone is placed, its horizontalness is checked, after which the sink is laid on it. The washbasin can be attached to the wall with studs, but this difficult option. Usually it is glued with a sealant, since the main support falls on the cabinet, and the sealant only prevents water from getting between the wall and the sink.

    A vanity sink is usually secured to the wall using sealant.

At this stage, the mixer is connected to the hot and cold water supply system. To ensure tightness between the tap and the nut, a rubber gasket must be installed on the hose. If you use flexible liner, then the gasket is already installed in it, there is no need to install or wrap anything additional. Then turn on the water and check the tightness of the connection. If a leak appears, tighten the nut a little.

If leaks occur, just tighten the nut a little

Connection to the sewerage system

Now the sink needs to be connected to the sewer system. To do this, first install a siphon. This device can be S-shaped or bottle-shaped. Some sinks have an overflow hole. In this case, you need to install a siphon, which has a hole for installing an additional pipe.

Siphon installation sequence:

  1. The siphon outlet is inserted into the sink hole, after which it is fixed. To do this, you need to install a mesh, a gasket and secure the siphon with a screw.

    If diameter sewer pipe larger size pipes from the siphon, use a transition sealing collar

  2. Checking connections. After installing the siphon, a control drain of water is carried out. It is checked for leaks; if they appear, they must be eliminated. If a leak occurs from under the sealing collar, then it must be pulled out, lubricated with sealant and a new connection made.

Before you start using the washbasin, you need to check the quality of the connections and how firmly the bowl is installed. To do this, check the quality of all fasteners again. After this, open the hot tap and cold water and check the tightness of the water hoses. If there are water leaks, then the connections must be tightened, and when this does not help, unscrew the hose and rewind the FUM tape.

To check the tightness of the siphon, it is recommended to fill the sink with water by closing the drain hole. Then drain all the water - if there are no leaks in the siphon or hoses, then you can start using the sink.

When draining the water, check the tightness of the connections.

Do not over-tighten the connections, as you may damage the gaskets or strip the threads.
