Everyone brainfriends, good day! Here is a guide to creating another brainlamp, which, however, compares favorably with all its "coldness" :).
I collected three such "cold" homemade, each of which glows in a different color, and I think everyone can do it yourself make one like it.
To do this, you need (the components are designed for 3 lamps):
- several spare parts from a copper lamp
- three flasks from 300W light bulbs (small or large, your choice, or you can glass bottle or something similar)
- 6 UV LEDs and resistors for them for 9V
- 3 9V batteries
- 3 switches
- braided cable
- acids and potassium sulfide for coloring
- thin wires
- distilled water
- glue gun
Step 1: Stand or Case
First you need to separate the bulb of the light bulb, and there is a lot about how to do this. brainguides. Be careful and careful during this process, as the glass of the bulb is very fragile!
The second photo shows pendants with empty flasks, and the third one with painted bases.
Next, we glue the UV LED into the stand, directly under the bulb, and solder the second UV LED in parallel using a braided cable. Leave this cable long enough to be cut if necessary.
Step 2: Flask Holder
By connecting your brainfantasy we make three flask holders, I made them in the form of spirals.
Then, having called Dremel and Proxxon :) for help, we cut the test tube to a length of about 10cm.
We drill a hole in the cork of the test tube for the second UV LED and glue it with a glue gun.
At the same time, we “invent” caps for test tubes, for example, as in the second photo. After that, for each brainwashing we mount the switches and connect them to the LED circuits (third photo).

Mixing the desired color is quite an interesting activity, and at the same time we ALWAYS wear protective gloves and goggles!
So what do we have?
- Rhodamine B500 - which is classified as HAZARDOUS.
– Rhodamine 6G
— Fluorescein
— Bromofluorescein
– Acridine orange
- Green fluorescent dye
* Acridine orange, Bromofluorescein, Fluorescein and fluorescent green dye are not classified as hazardous substances.
- Optical brightener - which, according to the classification, should be handled with CAUTION.
Fill test tubes and flasks with distilled water. And please use a small amount of dye! Rhodamine stains hands immediately.
It's hard to look away from these photos... (and at the same time I constantly think about my red fingers 🙂).

You will need
- - hydrogen peroxide;
- – baking soda;
- - Mountain Dew drink;
- - suitable capacity.
In industrial terms, neon is obtained by liquefying air, which breaks down into many components, including neon and helium. This process is quite complicated. It consists of many stages and requires compliance with a number of special criteria: pressure, temperature, the use of additional substances such as nitrogen or hydrogen. At home, you can make the so-called neon liquid, whose characteristics are identical to neon - it also shines in the dark with a bright blue light.
In order to prepare the so-called neon liquid, prepare a half-liter bottle of Mountain Dew. You can buy this drink in the nearby large hypermarket. You will also need hydrogen peroxide and baking soda.
Mountain Dew carbonated drink contains ingredients such as sodium benzoate, gum arabic, sodium citrate, carbon monoxide, and esters. Some of these substances are used in huge chemical laboratories.
Carefully add one-fourth teaspoon of baking soda through the neck of the Mountain Dew bottle.
Pour the gas-water out of the bottle, but not one hundred percent: leave about a quarter of the volume of water.
Pour in the hydrogen peroxide. 3 bottle caps will be enough.
In the process of creating a neon lamp at home, be careful when mixing the components.
Close the bottle with a cap and shake the mixture as necessary. Turn off the light and, if you measured all the ingredients correctly, the mixture you purchased will shine in the dark.
Cover simple lamps used for aquariums and terrariums, LED signs or party attributes: caps, flashlights or masks with a narrow layer of luminous water. Wait for the neon liquid to dry. With such a consistency, you can draw, for example, stars on the ceiling - it will be very beautiful.

Of course, you can go to the gift shop and buy this piece of furniture. But it's not that cheap. Let's see how to do lava lamp from improvised materials?
The first thing we need is a big plastic bottle from lemonade or mineral water. In general, absolutely any transparent container that closes tightly with a lid will do, but a plastic bottle is the most best option. In order to achieve the most effective result, it is better to take a container of at least 0.5 liters.
Next, you need to fill the bottle with three-quarters of the total volume of oil, and pour water and about 10 drops of food coloring into the remaining quarter. The solution should be a rich color. Now you need to add salt or any effervescent tablet, such as Alka-Seltzer or vitamin C.
Next, close the bottle tightly with a cap and shake it. You will immediately notice how droplets of liquid begin to form, gradually connecting with each other. But this process will take place intermittently. Over time, drops will stop forming, and you will have to add more salt or effervescent tablets.
Such a do-it-yourself lava lamp is good because it is absolutely harmless and safe, which is important if it is used by children as well.
To make things look even more impressive, place some kind of light source at the bottom of the bottle so that the beam is directed upwards onto the liquid. Thus, the light will illuminate these drops, and the lava lamp will look much more spectacular. With your own hands, you can destroy it if the light source will give a lot of heat, which can melt the plastic.
How is a temporary lava lamp arranged?
What is a lava lamp made of? Its mechanism lies in the fact that, due to different densities, water and oil do not mix, as a result of which bubbles are formed that move freely in the liquid. And adding salt or an effervescent tablet makes the reaction even more spectacular.
Permanent lava lamp
How to make a lava lamp that will always work? It should be made by an adult, as alcohol and oil are used here, which can easily ignite during heating.
For lamps that are sold in the store, a special mixture of liquid waxes is used. But at home, you can try to achieve a similar result. If you try, then, in principle, it is quite possible to end up with a liquid that will be interesting to overflow.
The basis of the lamp will be any glass container. In this case, do not use plastic, as it melts easily. As those same iridescent bubbles there will be mineral or baby oil.
There is no specific amount of oil that should be added. Pour approximately, as you can add later if it is not enough. If you want to get a more interesting effect, you can try to make a lava lamp based on oil paints, but be aware that over time, the oil may separate from the dye, resulting in an unsightly precipitate.
Now you need to add a mixture of 70 percent medical alcohol and 90 percent. They can be purchased at any pharmacy. The mixture should consist of 6 parts of 90% alcohol and 13 parts of 70%. If the indicated proportions are observed, then the liquid will turn out to be approximately the same density as mineral oil.
Lava Lamp Heater
The next step is to heat the mixture. First of all, you need to tightly close the jar. Next, you need to make the following design: take a heat-resistant surface, for example flower pot, put it upside down. Under it you need to place a heat source, and put our jar on the bottom. Over time, the lamp and the mixture inside it will heat up, the oil will expand more than the alcohol, and will move up and down.
An incandescent lamp is quite suitable for creating a heating device. Its power depends on the volume, but it is better to take no more than 40 watts.
