Installing a screen on an acrylic bathtub bas. Installation. Three great examples of BAS products: Atlanta, Florida and Laguna

In the past few years, acrylic bathtubs have gained immense popularity among consumers, as their technical characteristics and appearance far exceed the characteristics of analogues from other materials. Their advantages include low weight, the ability to retain heat, ease of care, reasonable cost and much more. But the choice of acrylic baths is still a difficult task for most buyers, since such products are on the market in a huge range.

The rating of foreign and domestic manufacturers, as well as instructions for choosing quality products, will help you understand the features and parameters of bathtubs.

To choose the right acrylic sanitary ware, you need to know several important criteria that affect the quality and durability of the product.

Production material

Acrylic is a polymer composition that consists of several compounds (methacryls, polyesters). For the manufacture of sanitary ware, two of its varieties are used: ABS and PMMA. The first type is a two-component polymer, which is essentially an elastic plastic, and the second type is close to organic glass in its characteristics.

ABS is usually used to make the base of products, which is covered with a layer of PMMA on top. The result is a bathtub with a fairly thin layer of acrylic that can withstand about 5 years of operation. In addition, ABS has a high porosity and the ability to absorb water, due to which the baths quickly collapse.

PMMA is a more durable material with good technical specifications. It is durable and aesthetically pleasing, but products made from 100% PMMA are more expensive than others.

It is possible to determine which type of material was used in the manufacture of the bathtub by its appearance.

Attention: a broken bath bowl made of low-quality acrylic can lead to serious consequences in the form of a flood among neighbors, therefore, special attention should be paid to assessing the quality of the material.

Reinforcement

Acrylic itself does not have sufficient strength, therefore, a reinforcing layer is applied to products that will be subjected to mechanical stress. For this, epoxy resins, fiberglass and polyurethane foam are used, which cover the bathtubs in layers from the outside (the more layers were applied to the surface, the greater the load the structure can withstand).

Reinforcing sanitary ware with polyurethane resins with the addition of fiberglass is cheaper, but a violation of the technology can cause the bath to emit a sharp chemical smell. Bathtubs reinforced with polyurethane foam are more expensive, but they are absolutely environmentally friendly and safe for humans.

Important: some manufacturers apply the reinforcing composition exclusively on the ends of the product - where the buyer can see them, while neglecting the processing of the rest of the surface.

Wall thickness and coating

The thickness of the walls of the bath is another characteristic on which the reliability and durability of the product depends. Good plumbing has a wall thickness in the range of 2 to 6.5 mm with a coating of at least 0.5-0.6 cm. In order to save money, you can purchase a product with thinner walls, but do not forget that their service life can be significantly reduced.

When pressing on the walls and bottom of the bowl, they should not spring or bend. Most sellers claim that a too thin layer of material is compensated by the reliability of the frame, but the durability and wear resistance of such products is highly questionable.

Dimensions and shape

The dimensions and shape of the products do not affect the quality, but the ease of use of plumbing depends on these criteria. From the point of view of ergonomics, the main parameters of the bath should look like this.

As for the shape, acrylic bathtubs can be either classic, rectangular, or angular, oval, etc. It should be noted that when buying non-standard products particular attention should be paid to quality, as the risk of deformation and mechanical damage increases in this case.

Overview of manufacturers of acrylic bathtubs

On the modern market, acrylic bathtubs are presented in a large assortment for every taste and budget, but it is better to give preference to manufacturers who have already gained a good reputation among consumers.

Foreign companies

If we talk about foreign manufacturers of plumbing, then the most popular are companies from the Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Italy. They comply with European quality standards, therefore they are distinguished by durability and reliability, but they are more expensive than domestic counterparts.

Ravak

The products of the Czech company Ravak are considered the most popular in Europe. Bathtubs are made of high quality material using modern equipment and technologies. Products have a thick layer of acrylic, reinforced with fiberglass and coated with polyurethane, which significantly increases their reliability and durability. The company's product range includes bathtubs different sizes and shapes, and some models are equipped with additional functions: hydromassage, lighting, etc.

The disadvantages of Ravak plumbing include a rather large weight (about 20% heavier than products from other manufacturers), as well as the difficulty in selecting components and fasteners.

Vagnerplast

Another brand from the Czech Republic, which was the first in Europe to start producing acrylic sanitary ware. Today, many companies are guided by Vagnerplast products, as they meet all quality standards. Products have an ergonomic shape, special supports for legs and head and adjustable legs. Roca bathtubs are made in Spain and are among the top three in terms of quality and durability. Products are made by injection molding using the extrusion method from high-quality acrylic. The thickness of their walls is 4-5 mm, which is slightly less than that of other European counterparts, but thanks to high-quality reinforcement and a rigid frame, they are practically not subject to wear and chipping. Buyers claim that immediately after installation, some models creak a little, but after a while the sound disappears.

Cersanit

Cersanit bathtubs are among the best in terms of price and quality. They are made in Poland from sheet acrylic 4 mm thick. Products have good technical and decorative characteristics (double reinforced bottom, rigid frame, smooth surface), and the company's range is constantly updated, so that any customer can easily choose a bath to his liking. The disadvantages of Cersanit products include the fact that thinner antibacterial acrylic is used for their manufacture, so the installation of a hydromassage system is excluded in this case.

Kolo

The Polish concern Kolo is another leader in the production of acrylic bathtubs in Europe. For the manufacture of sanitary ware, sheets of English acrylic with a thickness of 3-5 mm are used, which have high reliability and durability. The technology of forming products involves the addition of a special pigment to the material, so that the bathtubs can be polished and cleaned without fear of damage or scratches. The Kolo product range includes both classic rectangular and angular and asymmetric models. As is the case with Cersanit products, Kolo bathtubs are made of thin acrylic, so it is not possible to install hydromassage systems in them.

Riho

Riho is a Dutch company that offers a wide range of products including corner, round and even hexagonal bathtubs. The photo below shows various interesting options decorating the space under the bathroom.

How to choose the right size?

Any panel for the bath is selected for a specific size. It is very important to check if it fits your plumbing model. The length of acrylic panels varies from 120 to 180 cm for standard fonts. And the height is 55-60 cm, but it can change if there are legs.

Most often, acrylic panels come with plumbing and have the same tone as the bathroom, which allows you to look organic. general design. They are made of plastic coated with an acrylic layer.

The advantages of the panels purchased with the font include the fact that they fit as tightly as possible to the sides of the bath, saving you from unaesthetic gaps. Experts do not recommend purchasing such screens separately, as they do not always fit exactly in size.

If the screen is purchased separately from the bathroom, then in order not to make a mistake with the choice of size, you should carefully measure the plumbing from all sides.

Front panel mounting

With the choice we have decided, now you can proceed with the installation.

It should be noted right away that regular screens are sold complete with all fasteners, frames and fittings. They also come with detailed step-by-step installation instructions.

For mounting protective screen you will need the following tools and materials:

How to assemble and fix the screen? Consider step by step instructions for bathtubs trademark triton:

STEP 1. Adjusting the height of the bath. In order to avoid a wide gap near the floor, you need to match the height of the font and the front panel. We measure it with a tape measure and, using a wrench, twist the legs.

It is very important to check the level after all the manipulations. Don't forget to do it.

STEP 2. markup. Now you need to find plastic plugs on the frame or legs to which the screen will be attached, and mark on it with a marker the places for screwing in the screws, according to the location of the plugs.

STEP 3. Fastening. We apply the screen and, using a screwdriver, fasten it with self-tapping screws to the frame. Then we install special plugs on the screws.

The joint between the screen and the tile is best sealed with silicone sealant so that splashes do not get there and mold does not multiply.

How to install on corner models?

For corner baths most often, fastening is provided not with self-tapping screws, but with special magnets and metal plates. Such magnets are initially attached to the legs of the font.

STEP 1. Height adjustment. Just as in the case of a rectangular model, we adjust the height of the legs based on the screen parameters.

STEP 2. How to fix the plates? On reverse side panels in places where the magnets will rest, glue the metal plates from the kit on double-sided tape or silicone sealant. During drying, you can fix them with ordinary tape.

STEP 3. Installation. We attach the front panel and check that the magnets grab the metal plates.

This mounting option is convenient in that the question: how to remove the screen and then put it back on does not arise. Everything is extremely simple, you need to make a little effort, pulling the panel towards you, you can just as easily return it to its place. The previous method is not so simple, there you will first need to unscrew the screws.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is worth noting that installing a screen on an acrylic bathtub has a lot of advantages. With it you will transform the interior of the room and create extra bed for storage of household chemicals. To make the bathroom more functional and aesthetic, you should take a responsible approach to choosing a screen and carefully figure out how best to attach it.

So, you have decided to purchase an acrylic bathtub. Perfect solution! In this article, we will give you 5 of the most important tips to help you make right choice so that your bath gives you only pleasure and benefit for many years.

When choosing an acrylic bath, it all depends on your desires and financial capabilities. In order not to get lost in all the variety of baths that currently exist, it is worth understanding a few key points to make your next search easier.

Tip 1: Prices vary
Like any product, acrylic bathtubs vary in price. Now on Russian market there are a large number of manufacturers of acrylic bathtubs, offering from the cheapest to the most expensive models. The price of a bathtub is influenced by the quality, the size of the bathtub, and its design. The lower price limit for an acrylic bath is now about 8 thousand rubles. The top has practically no limit.

Tip 2: Realize your design dreams
One of the main advantages of acrylic bathtubs is the wide variety of designs. Your acrylic bathtub can be of almost any shape, from the classic rectangular to the unusual asymmetrical. This variability allows the buyer to install a bath even in the smallest room, as well as to implement any design ideas. If you are dreaming of a refined and stylish acrylic bathtub, pay attention to the design of bathtubs from Italian manufacturers.

When choosing an acrylic bath, decide what place it will take in your bathroom, the size of the bath depends on it. For small room an ergonomic bath size 120x70 is suitable, and for a more impressive space, you can choose a more impressive size, such as 190x120.

Tip 3: Focus on quality
When choosing a bathtub, the first thing to do is to check the availability of all certificates, and also find out what polymer the bathtub you like is made of. There are two types of polymers that are used to make acrylic bathtubs.
The first - ABS / PMMA - is a combination of two types of polymers - acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and polymethyl methacrylate, connected by coextrusion, that is, the connection of materials with different properties. The thickness of the acrylic layer in such baths is only 5-10%, everything else is an ABS polymer, which has a number of disadvantages - a relatively low density, a tendency to absorb moisture, roughness and porosity of the structure. Such baths are usually cheaper, but be prepared for the imminent appearance of microcracks, chips, loss of appearance. The service life of such bathtubs is only 3 years.

The second type of material is 100% cast homogeneous acrylic, that is, polymethyl methacrylate. Bathtubs made of such a polymer have all the qualities necessary for a bathtub - wear resistance, high strength, good appearance, maintainability. The service life of bathtubs made of homogeneous cast acrylic can be 10 years.

How can I tell the difference between a 100% molded solid acrylic bathtub and an ABS/PMMA bathtub? Look at the side of the bathtub. If the bathtub is made of homogeneous acrylic, there should be only two layers - acrylic and resin. Bathtubs made of ABS/PMMA have three layers - a thin layer of acrylic, a large layer of ABS plastic and a third layer of reinforcement. So if the bathtub has a cut thickness of more than 8 mm, and the seller tells you that acrylic is 6-8 mm thick here, then it is most likely that he is disingenuous. Acrylic as such is 1 mm here, followed by a layer of plastic - ABS.

The quality characteristics of an acrylic bathtub, which you should pay attention to, also include its rigidity and shape stability. These qualities are given to the acrylic bathtub by the reinforcement procedure that the bathtub is subjected to during manufacture. The reinforcing layer consists of fiberglass and epoxy resin. And the process of reinforcement, respectively, is the application of such a layer to the bath. The more layers, the stronger the bath. The number of layers with which the bath was strengthened at the factory is easy to determine by carefully examining the edge of the side. The layers are clearly visible, like annual rings on wood. Therefore, the walls of the bath should not sag, this must be checked when choosing a bath.

It is obvious that what better quality, the higher the price. Compromise allows you to find bathtubs from Polish manufacturers that offer a very reasonable price-quality ratio.

Tip 4: Tuning for your bath
For an acrylic bathtub, you can purchase additional equipment. It includes faucets, a system for hydromassage, decorative panels, end/front curtains, headrests, handles, mats, etc.

Of all the above to necessary equipment, which will definitely need to be purchased with the bathroom, is a mixer. And here is another advantage of an acrylic bathtub - the faucet can be placed on the side of the bathtub in any place where it will be more convenient for you. And you can even make several mixers. Acrylic bathtub allows you to realize all your ideas.
Faucets, like all plumbing fixtures, vary in price and quality. Choosing, for example, Italian manufacturers, you can be sure that the money paid is not in vain. Take it cheaper, made in China - it's up to you, but don't wait long term services.

Tip 5: Buy a bath without leaving home
Now there are many places where you can buy an acrylic bath: plumbing stores and salons, construction markets, specialized shopping centers. But all this requires a lot of time, effort and nerves. Recently, it has become possible to purchase acrylic bathtubs on the Internet. It is much more convenient and profitable. You can choose the option that suits you in terms of price and design, which will be delivered to you directly at the specified address.

The effect of water jet massage is directly proportional to the temperature of the water and the duration of the session. After taking a bath for too long, you may feel tired. And if you feel sleepy while taking a bath, turn off the hydromassage device for a while and cool the water.

Overweight people are contraindicated in hot tubs with a water temperature exceeding 38 C.

Before turning on the whirlpool system, make sure that the jet nozzles are not pointing upwards.

Transportation of bathtubs When transporting and installing the bathtub, care must be taken not to damage the piping systems and electrical equipment. It is necessary to avoid mechanical damage to the body of the bath and the screen, as well as to exclude the effect of chemically active reagents on the surface of the product.

Instructions for preparing a place for installing bathtubs:

1. A plumber performing work on the removal of hot and cold water pipes must take into account the linear dimensions of the bathroom. Otherwise, the pipe outlets may abut against the stiffeners, aggregates and fittings of the bath. This means that the bath cannot be installed close to the walls.

2. The drain pipe of the bathroom should not rise more than 10 cm above the floor. If this is not possible, then a podium must be made.

3. The legs are used to level the bathtub, so it is necessary to install additional stops under the supporting structure of the bathtub.

4. Wiring for the bath equipment must be double insulated cable with a cross section of 2.5 mm2.

System protection must be based on differential (multiple) tripping (1fn=30mA). The supply cable must comply with EU regulations and standards.

  • electrical system

Installation of the electrical system must be carried out by a professional electrician, with an electrical safety approval group of at least group 3. The power supply wiring for the backlight, the hydro-air massage system of the bath must have a “Residual Cutout Device” (RCD) with a rating of 30 mA.

  • Attention:

Connect the electrical cable in the following order: blue wire- "zero" brown wire - "phase" yellow-green wire - "ground" The RCD must be located outside the bathroom. It is strictly forbidden to connect the power supply of the backlight, the hydro-aeromassage system of the bath through the plug and socket.

1. Before installing the screen, mark with a pencil or felt-tip pen the location of the centers of the screen fastening plates on the front side of the bath.

2-5. Next, you need to screw 4 M 12 nuts onto the mounting legs, use two M 12 nuts to fasten the mounting legs to the bathtub frame, and with the remaining two M 12 nuts and two M 12 washers, fix the corner of the screen attachment on the mounting leg so that it reaches the edge of the screen . Attach the screen to the tub and drill dia. 3.5 mm to make holes in the corners of the screen attachment (this operation is recommended to be done after removing the screen).

6-7. Mark on the upper part of the screen the points with the centers of the embedded plates for fixing the screen already marked on the front side of the bath, placing them at a distance of 1.5-2 cm from the lower edge of the front side of the bath. In the marked areas of the screen, drill holes for self-tapping screws with a drill with a diameter of 3.5 mm. Next, use the same drill to make holes in the embedded plates of the screen (this operation is recommended to be performed after removing the screen).

8. Using the legs, adjust the bathtub to the height of the acrylic panel, while taking into account the zero level of the upper plane of the bathtub.

9. Install a drain-overflow device on the bathtub, screw on the siphon (not included) and connect to drain pipe bathroom

10-11. Aligning the screen with the embedded baths, it is necessary to screw self-tapping screws into the holes, after which put the plugs on them.

12. After installing the tub, remove the protective film.

13. Install the bathtub wall bracket. A wall bracket is offered to reinforce the rigidity of the tub.

Bath care

When washing the tub, use a liquid cleaner that is harmless to acrylic and plastic surfaces(See cleaning agent instructions). The manufacturer offers you a specialized cleaning agent "TIM-PROFI" adapted to our products. Remove stains with a soft cloth.

Surface scratches or burn marks from cigarettes can be removed by light sanding with sandpaper (#1000/2000) and water. You can restore the shine of the surface with a liquid polishing agent.

This type of cleaning is carried out using hard water (over 15 salt deposits per cubic meter of water). It is recommended to clean the bath hydraulic system at least 2 times a year as follows:

1. Fill the tub with hot water (40C).

2. Pour in liquid detergent at the rate of 2 g per 1 liter of water and start hydromassage for about 5 minutes.

3. After that turn off the electric pump and drain the water from the bath.

4. Refill the tub with cold water and turn on the hydromassage for 2 minutes.

5. Drain and clean the bath (see "Care of the bath").
