How to make a circular grinder from a grinder. Step-by-step instructions on how to make a circular saw from an angle grinder. Making a sliding stop

Circular is an indispensable tool, which is very important not only when sawing firewood, but also when carrying out repairs in a house or apartment, as well as making furniture, etc. The circular itself is quite an expensive pleasure, but you shouldn’t rush to spend money on purchasing it. Such a tool can be made from a grinder. How to do it? It is this issue that this material is devoted to.

What will you need to create a circular saw from a grinder with your own hands? To do this, you need to make sure that the following structural elements are present:

  • Bulgarian. It is advisable to use powerful tool for professional purposes. Low-power grinders can only saw thin wood materials.
  • Drill.
  • Chipboards.
  • Screws and glue.
  • Plastic clamps.

First, you need to purchase a special circular saw disc suitable for an angle grinder. This disk must have teeth, the number of which depends on the size of the disk, as well as on the purpose of using the tool. First you need to worry about the base for the future circular file.

A homemade one will do as a base. wooden table, frame frame or old table. The main thing for the foundation is stability, since vibrations will occur during operation.

It is important to know! The base can be assembled from scrap timber and plywood, which will be much more efficient and reliable.

When the base is ready, you need to take care of creating a stop for the angle grinder. It can also be made from bars and boards. The thickness of the stop should be selected so that the angle grinder casing has a tight fit to the side of the box without gaps. The length of the box should be sufficient to secure the angle grinder. You can also allocate space for a hose, which will be used to remove sawdust. The width of the stop will be equal to the distance from the bottom edge of the protective casing to the edge of the angle grinder body.

The stop is attached using self-tapping screws. The edges of the stop should not extend beyond the edge of the future work surface. At the third stage, you should fix work surface on the base. Such a surface must be flat and smooth.

The grinder is installed on the base with the tool turned off. Plastic clamps can be used as fasteners. The tool guard should not protrude beyond the working surface. After installing the grinder, you should check the ease of turning the disc using your hand. If the disk rotates without jamming or touching the structure, then the circular saw is almost ready for use.

To start work, you should set the desired cutting depth, and then fix the body of the angle grinder. Once everything is ready to start, you can perform a short test run. If everything is fine, then you can start the device and check it in action.

It is important to know! When using an angle grinder, it is necessary to check the heating of the electric motor. If it overheats, jamming may occur, so this should not be allowed.

Do not also forget that grinder discs designed for cutting wood cannot be used for sawing other materials: plastic, metal and other options. If at least one tooth is missing on the disk, then the use of such a tool should also be avoided.

Tabletop circular option

A circular saw from an angle grinder is a great way to save a significant amount of money. At the same time, it is important to understand that homemade instrument is not as reliable as the factory one, so do not forget to follow safety regulations.

Making your own circular saw requires a little time and precision. If there is no confidence in the reliability of such a design, it is better to redo it immediately rather than test it on yourself. Through simple, but deliberate steps, you can even make a tabletop circular. The advantage of a tabletop circular is its compactness. It can be installed anywhere and gets the job done. This may be necessary in the case of renovations in the apartment, so as not to go down to the garage each time to cut out products various forms and thickness. Options for tabletop circular saws made from an angle grinder are shown in the photo above.

The main condition for tabletop circulars is the reliability of fixation of the base. It is best to secure the entire structure to a table or other surfaces when carrying out work to ensure complete immobility.

Option for a full-fledged stationary circular saw from an angle grinder

Making a full-fledged circular saw from an angle grinder is a more labor-intensive process than making desktop version. When making this option, you need to pay attention to the tool control buttons: start and stop. To do this, you will need to disassemble the angle grinder in order to remove the wiring from it to the control buttons, but at the same time you can get an almost complete circular saw.

As an angle grinder, it is recommended to choose models with a disk rotation speed of up to 7000 rpm. Small grinders produce up to 12 thousand revolutions, which is a very large value. Wood discs are not designed to work at such speeds, so it is very important to take the selection of angle grinders very seriously. When purchasing a disk, you should pay attention not only to its size, but also to its quality. A version of a full-fledged circular is presented below.

The video below shows a homemade circular saw using a German angle grinder, the spindle speed of which does not exceed 6 thousand revolutions. This option is simply ideal for making a homemade circular saw.

In conclusion, it is important to note that a circular saw is another irreplaceable thing that can always be useful when performing any work with wood.

A circular saw, or more simply a “circular saw,” can be useful to any man both during major home repairs and just on the farm. And if you suddenly need it, you don’t have to run to the store to get it. You can take a grinder and, after spending a little free time, turn it into a circular saw with your own hands.

How to make a circular grinder with your own hands? This does not require special drawings or professional skills. You will need a little patience and the presence of some tools and improvised means in the house:

  • cutting wheel for wood (150-180 mm);
  • electric drill;
  • reinforcing bars;
  • metal clamps;
  • bolts, nuts, washers.

Making a sliding stop

First you need to assemble a thrust-sliding structure for the future circular. To make this part, you will need two oblong metal corners - they will be located on both sides of the cutting wheel. It is advisable to sharpen the lower edges of the corners so that they do not scratch the workpiece when cutting.

Next, the corners are connected to each other at the edges with bolts and nuts, and a gap is left between them using washers. There should be a gap of 3-4 mm between the corners and the disk on each side so that the disk does not touch the edges of the stop during operation.

Then a clamp is put on the tool body with the tie down. The sliding stop must be firmly fixed to the screed. You can use galvanized tape.

Preparing the gearbox and making the axial handle

Using a standard angle grinder handle, make high-quality cut pretty hard. Therefore, it is recommended to make a handle with your own hands and then attach it to the grinder.

But first you need to prepare the instrument for such a modification. It is recommended to disassemble the tool gearbox and find areas suitable for drilling. Then drill several mounting holes with threads for a small bolt in the gearbox housing.

The handle itself is best made of metal (reinforcement, pipe or cross brace). At those ends of the handle with which it is attached to the gearbox, mounting holes are drilled. The handle is then attached to the tool using fasteners.

Making an adjusting rod

Before you start using homemade circular, it should be equipped with a cutting depth regulator. The so-called adjusting rod.

A piece of reinforcing rod with a diameter of 5 mm is used as an adjusting rod. One of the ends of the rod is bent and flattened, then fixed with the front bolts of the corner stop.

A thread is cut at the other end of the rod. This is necessary for the rod to fit into the hole in the axial handle. Then a nut is screwed onto the thread, and the tail of the rod is threaded into the hole in the handle. After this, another nut is screwed on.

By loosening and tightening these nuts the depth of cut will be adjusted.

Thus, the hand-made circular saw is ready for use (video).

However, for greater convenience, you can turn it into a table saw. This will require a little more patience and available tools.

Converting a manual circular saw into a tabletop one

The first step is to turn the circular from hand tools in a tabletop, you should choose the table itself. It must be strong and stable. This is important not only for comfortable work, but also for safety reasons. For example, an old kitchen table made of wood and metal might work.

Next you will need a reinforcing rod or metal pipe with a diameter of 15-22 mm. This pipe is bent (or cut and welded) in the shape of the letter “P”. Then the lower ends of this structure are bent, flattened and attached to the table in any convenient way - the main thing is that it is held firmly and steadily.

Then from two pieces hollow metal pipe The T-shaped lever is welded. Its transverse part must first be cut and bent so that it can be put on the crossbar of the frame, and then fastened with clamps. A ready-made manual circular is attached to the end of the lever itself, also with clamps.

So, the DIY desktop circular table is ready for use. If you replace the disk, it can be used for cutting metal. Unfortunately, it cannot handle thick lumber, and it is not very convenient to use for rip sawing. For these purposes, you can try turning the angle grinder into a circular saw.

Circular saw

In this case, the grinder is mounted not above the tabletop, but under it. There is no need to convert it into a manual circular saw - just replace the disk and securely fasten it under the tabletop. To do this, you can use clamps, screws or specially made fasteners.

As with a tabletop circular table, the table must be strong and stable. It is desirable that it not just stand on the floor, but be screwed to it. The table top should be thick and preferably covered thin sheets metal - for better sliding of fed workpieces. You can also use chipboard.

The gap in the tabletop should be the same width as that of the stop hand saw, 3-4 mm from the disk in both directions.

For more convenient work, you can equip the table with guides made of timber, screwing them onto self-tapping screws.

Important!

In conclusion, it should be recalled that the original purpose of an angle grinder is grinding and cutting hard materials. Therefore, when converting an angle grinder into a circular saw, it is necessary to turn Special attention on following points:

  • When using a grinder as a tabletop tool, remember that the lower edge of the disk should rotate towards the master, and the upper edge - away from him. It is also advisable to equip your machine protective screen made of plexiglass.
  • Feeding of workpieces into the circular saw is done not by hand, but by other workpieces.
  • The rotation speed of the grinder is significantly higher than the speed of the circular saw. When installing a cutting wheel for wood (150-180 mm) on an angle grinder, it is necessary to reduce the tool speed to 4000-5000 rpm.

Otherwise, the discs will become dull almost instantly. If the angle grinder you are using does not have a regulator, you can connect a special reduction gear to it.

Do-it-yourself manual circular grinder

YouTube video channel "Mr.10000Bees". The master has an angle grinder made in China. Despite this, it is of quite good quality, it works for one year, there are no complaints. There was a desire to make a manual circular saw from this grinder. That's what came out of it. The nozzle is secured with a clamp. Made of two parts: sole and body. Sawdust is thrown away. Two handles are made. I used it every day for a week. We cover a room in the country with clapboard. Plus I laid laminate flooring.

I made it for sawing laminated fiberboard, because it is long and difficult to cross it with a jigsaw. The jigsaw tears the edges. And the Bulgarian is at the expense large quantity rpm lies flat. Almost without chips. Using this device I dug, laid out wiring and pipes. Instead of a saw blade, you can put it on the concrete and calmly select a groove. There is another device, but it does not work satisfactorily. It has a large sole and the cutting depth is not adjustable.

Let's put everything on the grinder. The cutting depth is set as needed. Maximum 35 mm. To reduce litter in the room, there is a manual cover electric jointer. The master has a manual circular saw in good quality, worked faithfully for several years. But first of all, it is bulky and heavy. Secondly, the master made a table saw from it. You can pull it out and use it, but you can’t use it with one hand.

A few words about the saw blade. The seller assured that this is a disc for an angle grinder. But it costs 9000 rpm, the grinder throws out 11000. It cuts cleanly, but the grinder disc has fewer teeth. Mostly satisfactory. The master did not risk installing this without his own equipment. It may jam or something else emergency. You can get seriously hurt. And with this device it functions normally.

How to make a reliable circular saw yourself

Any thing made with your own hands will serve much better than a factory-made product. Every master should know how to make a circular saw with his own hands, because... This will not only allow you to save significantly, but also develop a tool to suit your individual needs.

A homemade circular saw is indispensable for construction and furnishings. country house. It can be used to process large volumes of wood quickly and easily.

Conversion of the grinder

Tools and materials:

  • Bulgarian;
  • drill;
  • clamps;
  • screws or bolts;
  • gearbox

The device of a homemade circular saw.

The easiest option is to remake the grinder yourself, but you need to remember that this tool has fairly high power ratings, which can make the work more difficult. An option with a 150 or 180 mm disc is used, and the speed must be low (4000-5000 rpm), because otherwise, the cutter will become dull at an unprecedented speed. 3-flute cutters are usually used for such modifications.

Options for attaching the grinder to the tabletop:

  1. On the clamps. Everything is simple here - 2 clamps tightly attract the tool to the selected working surface. It is quite easy to install and just as easy to dismantle, moreover, this is the only option when, after dismantling, you can continue to use the tool for its intended purpose.
  2. Self-tapping screws. Using a drill, 3 holes are made in the body and additional handle, into which self-tapping screws are then screwed and attached to the working surface. A similar option is also possible with bolts and nuts, which is much more reliable.
  3. Using an additional part. You'll have to contact a mechanic to grind out the connecting piece between the countertop and the grinder. To attach it you will have to remove protective cover, but after fastening the tool will not move anywhere. This option the most reliable, albeit the most inconvenient.

Layout diagram of the elements of a homemade circular saw.

It often happens that you don’t have a low-speed grinder at hand, so you can use a reduction gearbox. To fasten working tools, screws or bolts are used, depending on the desire to maintain the quality of the tools.

Only in the first indicated case, after achieving the goal, can you dismantle the tool and use it for its intended purpose, and then only if it was used as a circular saw for a very short time. In all other cases, this option is not even worth considering, because The chance of getting injured during further work is 9 to 10.

Situations are different, so the protective casing is often removed. There is no need to install it back, but as a replacement it is better to use a steel angle welded to the working surface. This move will be much more reliable than factory plastic.

Development based on asynchronous motor

Tools and materials:

  • asynchronous motor;
  • adapter;
  • gearbox;
  • support holder;
  • bolts with nuts;
  • steel corner;
  • welding machine.

The power of the electric motor for the circular saw must be at least 1.5 kW.

This option will be much cheaper and more reliable, but there is much more work to be done. Instead of asynchronous motors collectors cannot be used, because the latter give much higher speed at lower power, which is optimal for grinders.

To begin with, select a motor whose power should be at least 1 kW, and preferably 1.5-2 kW, at 4000-4500 rpm. This option produces a little more power than required, so there will be no difficulties when working with it, and if it lasts 10 years, it will be very little.

If you manage to find the right motor, then you need to attach it to the working surface, connect the adapter to the power supply, and screw the support holder for the cutter onto the shaft. But most often, more revving analogues are purchased, for which you have to buy an additional reduction gearbox. To fasten them together, it is enough to use bolts and nuts, because the holes are almost always opposite. Otherwise, you will have to use metal screws and attach the engine this way.

The working surface should, if possible, be metal; in any case, it should be very reliable, because... The power of the resulting tool is quite large, and during operation it may begin to vibrate. As protection, a regular corner or steel profile is used, which is welded onto the working surface slightly away from the cutter. It is located below the tabletop, because the upper part cannot be damaged. Particular attention should be paid to the weld, which should not crack even from strong blow.

Even with a perfectly designed tool, an annoying mistake often occurs - its incorrect location. When rotating, the lower edge of the disk should rotate towards the master, while the upper, accordingly, away from him. If you do not do this, you will very quickly have to make friends with the ophthalmologist, even if you use safety glasses. And if done correctly, work boots can always be cleaned with any brush after finishing work.

Brief afterword

It often happens that a homemade working tool has to be replaced with a factory one. The reasons for this may be different, but the circular remains ownerless, so it needs to be repurposed.

The angle grinder cannot be restored back, and the motor may rust from inactivity, so the best option will become Miter saw.

It is not needed very often for housework, but it costs a truly enormous amount of money. To make a circular yourself, you don’t need a lot of effort and money, but you need some patience. A well-made tool will serve for many more years, and it can be customized directly to the needs of the owner, which is impossible with any factory analogue.

A circular saw is one of the universal metalworking tools that is widely used in various areas of the economy, in metal and woodworking, furniture production and solving other problems. The main advantages of disk machines include ease of operation, high cutting speed and accuracy, as well as good maintainability and the ability to quickly replace cutting disc. If you don't have a professional or household one at hand disk machine, you can make it yourself using regular angle grinding machine(angle grinder) or grinders.

Self-production cutting machine based on a grinder justifies itself from an economic point of view: for performing one-time work around the house (cutting logs, metal and wooden profiles, timber and corners, as well as ceramic tiles and other materials) it is unprofitable to buy expensive machine tools. Having basic skills in working with welding machines and other tools from a mechanic’s arsenal, you can easily make a circular, pendulum or chain saw with your own hands.

We invite you to familiarize yourself with detailed instructions, drawings and tips for making a saw from an angle grinder with your own hands in the video, where you will find many useful practical recommendations and gain important theoretical information for converting tools (photo instructions also complement the video for your convenience).

Do-it-yourself circular saw from an angle grinder

A circular saw designed for simple but voluminous woodworking work - cutting timber, boards, lining, etc. - can be made quite simply on the basis of an ordinary grinder. It is recommended to take an angle grinder with a disk diameter of at least 125 mm to make the tool universal in use. You can make a circular grinder based on an angle grinder according to drawings or without using an old one kitchen table, as well as homemade frame structure made of metal or durable wood.

The main requirement for the base is the stability of the structure (it should not become loose) and a flat frame on which the grinder will be attached. It is necessary to make a slot in it for the saw blade. The frame can be made of wood, chipboard, plywood, sheet metal, plexiglass and others hard materials thickness corresponding to the loads that will be placed on the structure during operation.

Since the drive of the circular saw from the grinder will be attached to the bottom of the table lid, it is better to make the lid hinged using strong hinges. Don't forget also about the guide bar - it can be made from a regular metal corner. In this case, the bar can be fixed or sliding. The most important part of making a circular saw is securing it securely to the frame. To do this, you can use strong self-tapping screws, and also make your own special brackets for fixing angle grinders on the table top.

Do-it-yourself pendulum saw from an angle grinder

Based on an angle grinder, it is also possible to manufacture a pendulum and mounting cutting saw for use at home. With its help, you can easily cut identical parts and blanks from wood and metal. The design of such homemade machine more secure because The cutting disc together with the grinder is attached above the table top. Such a grinder saw is made by hand according to drawings, and also with the experience and skills of a mechanic - it is done by eye due to the simplicity of its design.

Making a pendulum or mounting saw from an angle grinder is quite simple: the structure will consist of a frame, a pendulum and a mount for an angle grinder. The frame can be made from profile pipes, welding a frame from them and installing a platform on it from sheet metal thickness from 3 mm. A metal bracket is attached to the platform for mounting pendulum saw and a stop for fixing the workpiece during cutting. The stop is best made in the form of a rotating protractor, which will allow you to conveniently set the angle between the part and the cutting saw blade.

It is also necessary to make a hole (cut) in the tabletop of the machine where the saw blade touches. The pendulum in this design is also made from metal profiles using welding (you can see the drawings below on the page). It must be secured on one side to the bracket, and on the other side, the mount for the angle grinder must be fixed to it. This T-shaped pendulum must have a movable joint that allows the cutting disc to move during operation. The connection can be made of a rolling bearing and bushing, as well as a rubber band or spring (to return the mechanism to its original position).

The attachment of the angle grinder to the pendulum is made in the form of a metal console with one or two brackets. The angle grinder is attached to one of them with bolts, and with the help of a second bracket in the form of a clamp, the angle grinder is held by the body. A miter saw is made using a similar principle, a video on the equipment of which you can watch here.

DIY chain saw from an angle grinder

The good thing about the two previous types of homemade machines is that, if necessary, the grinder can be dismantled and used in the usual way. In contrast, for the manufacture chain saw from an angle grinder it will have to be modified forever. You can also make a chain saw from a grinder with your own hands, but compared to the two previous types of machines handmade it is a less practical and less safe device. If you have an old grinder that you don't mind modifying for a variety of cutting jobs, you can make a chainsaw out of it.

Such a saw may be needed on the farm for cutting branches and other wooden structures where it is difficult to get regular saw. To make a chain saw you will need a bracket for mounting a bar, which can be made from metal profile. The saw chain is pulled onto it and the drive sprocket is screwed on. For this design, it is advisable to choose an angle grinder with an adjustable disk rotation speed.

Now you know how to make a pendulum, circular and chain type cutting machine from an angle grinder.

A circular saw is an indispensable thing in the household. Previously, such a tool was called a circular. With its help you can saw drywall, plywood, boards, soft metals, laminate. Unlike a hand saw, a circular saw can significantly save time. To avoid unnecessary expenses, you can make a circular grinder with your own hands at home.

Required materials and working tools

Remaking the instrument does not require special skills or expensive materials. A homemade circular is made from ordinary, improvised materials:

  • working grinder;
  • circular saw blade;
  • nuts, bolts and other fasteners;
  • electric drill with drills;
  • screwdrivers, spanners, pliers;
  • rectangular metal pipe;
  • metal corners.

If an element is out of stock, its cost will not be comparable to the price of a finished circular. Spending on at this stage more than worthwhile.

Assembling a sliding stop for a future circular saw

The persistent-sliding design is the basis of a homemade circular saw made from an angle grinder. IN finished form it should be shaped like the letter "T". For manufacturing, metal corners are required, which should be placed 4 mm from circular disk. They are connected by cross-links with nuts and bolts. The edges of the corners must be rounded so as not to damage the workpiece in the future. At the joints, the slots are fixed with washers. The amount of clearance can be adjusted.

A metal sheet clamp is put on the finished body and secured with screws. A steel strip folded in half is secured under the rear stop screw. The fasteners must be positioned so that the clamp and the stand become one. To subsequently secure the axial handle, several mounting holes need to be made in the gearbox housing.

Manufacturing of the axial handle

Even professional craftsmen, not to mention ordinary amateurs, will not be able to hold a circular saw using a standard side holder. Or rather, they can, but the quality of the cut will be low. Therefore, the creation of an axial handle is required. To make it, it is better to use a metal tube or rod.

In order to connect the element to the gearbox, holes are drilled at the ends of the workpiece. The prepared handle is fixed using special fasteners.

Cutting depth regulator

When creating a circular saw from a grinder with your own hands, special attention should be paid to the adjusting rod - the structure responsible for the depth of the cut. A piece of metal rod with a diameter of no more than 0.5 cm will serve as its base. Its edge must be bent, flattened and secured with persistent bolts from the corners located in front.

At the opposite end a thread is made onto which a nut is screwed. The end part of the adjusting rod is threaded through the through slot on the axial handle and another nut is put on. Tightening and loosening these two nuts will control the depth of cut of the saw blade. Before you start active use finished equipment, you need to check its performance on several test samples.

Converting a manual circular saw into a tabletop one

To remake a homemade circular manual type in the tabletop, you need a stable one, strong table. Working on it will not only be convenient, but also safe. The basic procedure consists of the following steps:

  • Bend a metal rod with a diameter of 1.5 – 2 cm into the shape of the letter “P”.
  • Bend the lower part, flatten it, and attach it to the table in a reliable way.
  • Weld a T-shaped lever from two parts of a hollow metal pipe.
  • Change the transverse part so that it fits seamlessly onto the crossbar of the main part of the structure.
  • Fasten metal structure clamps.
  • Attach a hand-held circular saw to the end of the installed lever.

If you equip the grinder with a regular cutting wheel, then the device can be used as a cutting structure. But the cutting depth will be no more than 8 cm. A tabletop circular saw is not suitable for processing thick materials or longitudinal sawing. In this case, the optimal solution would be a circular saw, which you can also make yourself.

Circular saw made from a manual circular saw

To ensure maximum safety when working with circular saw, it is recommended to screw the table to the floor. The tabletop should be as thick as possible. To increase the degree of strength, you can sheathe it with thin metal sheets. This will also increase the sliding of workpieces and make work more comfortable. The main difference between the machine and the tabletop type of design is that the grinder is mounted not above the table, but under its surface.

For reliable fixation, self-tapping screws, clamps and other specially prepared parts are used. The gap in the tabletop should also be about 4 mm from each side of the circular disk. If necessary, you can equip the machine with guide elements made of timber, secured with self-tapping screws.

It is very easy to make a circular saw from a grinder. It is important to follow safety rules. It is advisable to equip the machine with protective plexiglass. Serve the blanks with other blanks. Remember that the bottom of the disk should rotate towards the master. When working, you must not stand in line with the circle, since at very high speeds it can jump off. During work, the master must be as vigilant and careful as possible.
