The need for glazing the porch of a country house

Glazing of the porch of the house is carried out for the following purposes:

  1. Reliable heat conservation, which will also significantly save on heating the house itself. When entering the building, each person first opens the door from the street to the porch and only then the door to the hallway. With a closed porch, the interior space of the housing is protected from heat loss, as well as the penetration of gusts of wind, cold air and dampness into the room. In addition, the extension helps to reduce heat loss through the wall to which the porch adjoins.
  2. Often, especially in the cold season, this extension serves as a hallway and extra bed for storage outerwear and shoes. On glazed porch if desired, you can hang hangers and put a small chest of drawers or a wardrobe.
  3. Cozy place to spend time with family and friends. If the porch is large enough, then you can arrange a rather beautiful and comfortable area for relaxing in a friendly company.
  4. Glazing the porch of a country house will, if necessary, turn this space into a specific area: for example, a pantry, a children's playroom, a gym. However, this is true if the extension is located on the side of the yard. From the side of the facade, such a solution will look sloppy.
  5. Due to the fact that the room is closed from moisture, all building materials that were used for interior decoration porches are protected from the damaging effects of moisture, so they last much longer.

The nuances of glazing the porch in the house or in the country

So that the glazing of the porch does not become a reason to regret it design decision, there are a few important things to keep in mind:

  • at the stage of planning the parameters of the porch, as well as the dimensions of the door and window openings must be checked to ensure that the final result is in harmony with general design facade of the house itself;
  • choose windows and doors with high quality glass to ensure high throughput sunlight;
  • care must be taken to ensure that the selected structures ensure the protection of a residential building from illegal entry.

Types of porch glazing

From a technical point of view, the porch is an external extension through which you enter directly into the house. By glazing, you can increase the usable area, improve the heat and sound insulation of the building.

On our website you can find contacts of construction companies that offer window and door installation services. You can directly communicate with representatives by visiting the exhibition of houses "Low-Rise Country".

To date, there are several various technologies glazing:

  1. The use of PVC windows, which have double-glazed windows with a thickness of approximately 24-52 mm. When choosing this option it is possible to order windows with special glass, providing a minimum level of heat loss.
  2. Porch glazing aluminum profile allows you to create openings with enough large sizes without installing special additional jumpers - it looks more neat and stylish.
  3. Installation sliding systems, in which the doors are installed on small rollers, and then moved apart in the same plane along special guides.
  4. Frameless glazing is not as popular as the previous options, because it performs mainly decorative functions, practically not protecting the porch from cold and moisture. However, such a system makes it possible, if necessary, to move the glass packages so that the extension is open on the entire side.

IN Lately The method using frames made of PVC is in rather great demand, because they have such advantages as high strength, durability, aesthetic appearance, practicality and affordable price.

For dachas and cottages built in the traditional Russian style from wooden log or timber, most often selected wooden frames for porch glazing. Some people prefer frames that have enough a large number of wooden bindings and glass of small sizes. It is this retro-style option that is suitable for decorating an extension in classical style. And for more modern facilities frames should be selected in 1-2 glasses with large parameters.

To get a beautiful and properly glazed porch, the work is carried out in the following order:

  1. Nails or self-tapping screws are hammered to the frame of openings for installing a window box around the entire perimeter of the room.
  2. All existing gaps must be filled with a special silicone-based sealant.
  3. First, window frames without glass are attached. To perform this work, hinges are often used, which are the simplest swing construction.
  4. Sheets of glass of pre-selected sizes are installed in the openings. For reliable fixation, glazing beads are used - thin slats that are nailed with small nails to the frame from the outside and inside.
  5. After completing the installation work, the frame with glazing beads must be painted with paint of the most suitable shade. This is required not only to create an aesthetically pleasing look, but also to ensure that the wood is protected from mold, blue and rot.
  6. At the end, all seams are carefully sealed with sealant to protect the extension from drafts and strong winds.

Despite all the advantages of this glazing method, it must be taken into account that it does not provide complete protection of the porch from the cold, so it is best used for glazing during the warm season.

To glaze the porch with this method, it is necessary to purchase double sheets, the thickness of which is 8-10 mm, and for a room with a large area, sheets with a thickness of 14-16 mm are more suitable. This option allows you to make completely glass facades that let in a large amount of sunlight.

In order for such windows to last for a sufficiently long time, you must follow the instructions:

  1. First, the foundation is created. Such a porch does not require a very powerful base, so a tape or column type is perfect.
  2. The frame is made of polycarbonate. It is best suited for this rolled from channels, corners and pipes.
  3. The finished frame must be fixed on a completely dry foundation.
  4. A crate is made of wooden beams, in which the spacing of the elements is 60-80 cm, depending on the area of the extension. Thanks to this, the construction of monolithic polycarbonate will be able to withstand the load during heavy snowfall.

When performing glazing work, you should follow a few fairly simple recommendations:

  1. All sections of the panels must be closed with thin strips or special tapes.
  2. Small drainage holes are created around the entire perimeter of the window box, through which moisture will escape from the inside of the structure to the outside.
  3. All individual panels with the help of slats are connected into a complete canvas.
  4. Polycarbonate sheets should be securely fastened to the crate using planks and sealant with a transparent texture.
  5. Sheets of this material should not be fixed too rigidly so that there are small gaps. Thus, the structure will be able to maintain its integrity after expansion due to a significant increase in air temperature.

Double-glazed windows are the most practical option for glazing extensions in cottages or country houses. In addition, manufacturing companies offer a wide range of frames:

  • rotary;
  • swing-out systems - they make it possible to ventilate the room, only partially opening the window;
  • sliding - these frames do not have a long service life, but they are well suited for a too small porch.

Installation work on the installation of double-glazed windows has several features:

  1. Window sashes must be removed from the frames in order to prevent damage to the glass.
  2. To fix the frame, dowels with self-tapping screws are used.
  3. Gaps that may occur after installation must be carefully filled with mounting foam.
  4. At the very end, the sashes with glass are fixed back.

Installation of aluminum frames for porch glazing

This method of glazing is best suited for rooms of a sufficiently large area. In this case, sliding frames should be preferred to create the illusion of an unglazed space.

Basic requirements for frame installation:

  1. When installing window frames, use anchor plates.
  2. The space formed between the frame and the window opening is filled with mounting foam to isolate the porch from drafts.
  3. Frames are installed using special skids and locks.

Video description

A story about the types of glazing from the designer and a selection of successful solutions - in this video:

Conclusion

When choosing any of the porch glazing methods, it is necessary to take into account the design of the room, as well as its future purpose, so that the result is beautiful and practical. In addition, the purpose of the house itself also plays a role: there is no point in expensive glazing of the porch if it is planned to visit the cottage only in the summer.

The porch is an obligatory element of the entrance part of the building and its "business card". The desire to decorate your own home, taking into account fashion trends and personal taste preferences, is inherent in almost everyone. The design of the porch of a private house should emphasize the integrity of the entire structure and make it more attractive. There are many options for decorating the entrance part of the building, so we suggest that you consider the most popular and interesting of them.

wooden porch

The most popular option is the installation of wooden flooring on the porch. In most cases, such structures are made from pine wood, as the most inexpensive and popular natural raw material. If the porch is properly sealed, varnished and painted, it will look attractive for many years.

This is an actual way to decorate the facade, which is decorated in country style. This design can be supplemented with wood-based porch decor, which will bring the atmosphere of a country cottage. Wood can be supplemented with stone, which is relevant not only for country style. In suburban private buildings, these two materials look quite harmonious together and are suitable for finishing scaffolds, doors and use as a decor.

Concrete porch

Concrete is considered a versatile material that is cheap and reliable, and is also optimal for making a porch. This is a monolithic structure that will not begin to stagger over time, which is sometimes inherent in wooden products. In addition, it can be easily repaired and decorated with any decor. Do not forget that the concrete porch can be of various shapes, which will not particularly affect the price and the amount of time to complete the task.

Concrete structures can be decorated with tiles, for example, clinker tiles. There are options trimmed with stone, and also painted with paint, and processed with other materials. In modern buildings with a facade of wood, brick or siding, a concrete porch can be left without additional coverage. This allows you to emphasize the features of the texture of the walls and their colors.

brick porch

A brick porch is a more expensive option than the previous ones, but it also looks attractive and is considered a fairly reliable solution for decorating a house. Installation of the structure may take more time and require serious effort, but in the future the work will pay off with a vengeance, since it does not require additional care.

Often, a brick porch has a concrete base or a step covering based on other materials. There are options with laying tiles on the steps. It looks at home, inspires confidence and adds reliability to the building. But be careful, as any step covering you choose should not be slippery, otherwise this area will become potentially dangerous in the cold season due to snow and ice.

stone porch

Natural stone is considered a classic option. Such raw materials are durable, presentable and durable, which is especially important. There are many varieties of stone, with some suitable for the base, and a number of others for creating decorative elements (and the raw materials for making the base will cost much more). Although, in general, all types of stone are able to withstand adverse weather conditions, and it will not require additional maintenance for a long time.

If the building is stone, then you can fit a porch with columns into the overall structure. Natural stone can be combined with monumental elements. Such a composition will look harmonious.

Metal and wrought iron porch

Usually, when they talk about a forged or metal porch, they mean decorative parts of the structure - canopies, railings, steps, which are made on the basis of metal. But sometimes a completely metal porch is installed in a private house.

The main advantage that such structures have is increased strength and durability. However, you will have to constantly paint and treat the porch so that it does not deteriorate due to corrosion. Moreover, the metal floor will be cold enough, so it is not suitable for arranging a terrace. The latter option requires a concrete base or wood flooring on a metal base.

Porch with canopy

In most cases, canopies, as it were, continue the roof and, together with the porch, perform an important function of protection from the effects of precipitation and solar radiation. This is a great option for arranging a comfortable entrance to the building.

If the building has architectural features that will not allow a canopy to be installed over the main entrance, even a small one, replace it with a canopy. Such a detail will not only partially perform the functions of a canopy, but will also be able to diversify the appearance of the building, and if you choose the product correctly or make it in an original way, it will become a real decoration of the exterior.

Even a small visor can make the entrance to a private house more presentable. The shade from it can protect from the sun, as well as save from streams of water during rain, if you open the doors or wait for the car.

Porch with steps and railings

If the house has a high foundation and steps can be installed that will lead to the main entrance, the installation of railings will be relevant. This design will make the exterior of the building appear safer and more stable, and will also serve a very specific function and help residents and visitors enter the house in bad weather.

This is the traditional way of decorating the entrance to the building. It can be combined with a canopy or canopy, as well as additionally decorated with various designs to make the composition look complete.

The glazed porch allows you to admire the beauty of the garden around the house and at the same time protects from wind and rain. Thanks to the glazing, you can rest comfortably even during heavy rain. But before you install the glass, you should choose one of the common methods.

The main methods of glazing

To make the porch closed, many home owners choose:

  • wooden frames;
  • plastic windows;
  • sliding systems made of aluminum;
  • frameless glazing.

To choose one of the described options, you need to consider each of them in detail. It is worth giving preference to one of them only after careful consideration of each method. It is also worth considering the photos, which show the design style of the porch, glazed with all the products described.

wooden frames

Glazing with wooden frames occurred long before the advent of more modern materials. This method is the most common and cheapest. A wood-framed porch looks natural and harmonizes with both the old building and the newly built house.

To glaze the porch with wooden frames, you must either order them from a carpenter or make them yourself. You can also buy ready-made frames with glasses. But if you want to save money, you can do everything yourself by buying only glass.

For glazing, first, a frame for frames from a bar is created. Before fixing, the material must be treated with an antiseptic. After the installation of the beam, the installation of empty wooden frames takes place. At this stage, it is necessary to check the verticality of each element. After that, all cracks are sealed with sealant.

Glass installation is as follows:

  • first, a 3 cm thick sealant is applied to the frames;
  • after it dries, the glass is inserted into the frame and pressed;
  • then you need to reapply the sealant to the edges of the glass;
  • at the final stage, the glass is fixed with a thin rail, called a glazing bead.

If you need to replace glass in old frames, it is enough to completely clean them of old paint and smooth out all the chips with putty. After the frame dries, it is enough to clean it with sandpaper, and then varnish and paint. You need to choose a coating in accordance with what style of decoration suits your home.

Installation of plastic windows

Most often, plastic windows on the porch are installed by homeowners who want to insulate this extension. But there are also windows that are not designed to insulate the porch. But even such products can significantly reduce heat loss. If the glazing of the porch is carried out not only to protect against precipitation, but also to protect from the cold while relaxing in the evening, it is worth choosing plastic windows.

Glazing with plastic windows occurs as follows:

  • first, the window frame is fixed in the opening with the help of fasteners;
  • after that, the gaps between the wall and the windows are sealed with mounting foam;
  • at the final stage, the excess foam is cut off with a knife, and the wall surface near the window is finished in accordance with the wishes of the owner of the house.

If the installation takes place in a wooden structure, self-tapping screws are used for fastening. Plastic windows should be chosen when you want to completely insulate the porch or make it suitable for a comfortable stay in spring and autumn.

Sliding window systems

If you want to brighten up your porch, consider installing sliding windows and glass doors. This design of windows helps to save space, as it does not take up additional space when opened. This is useful when the porch is narrow.

Such systems are made of glass and aluminum profile. Similar windows are created of 2 types:

After reviewing the photos of various extensions to the house, it is easy to choose the most suitable option for your building.

Frameless glazing

If the porch is used only for relaxation during the summer, you can install frameless glass panels that move along rails fixed to the floor and ceiling of the porch or porch. Thanks to such structures, the structure is completely visible from the outside.

If you want to make your porch open, but protected from rain or wind, the best option is to install frameless glass. The photo shows that such designs can harmoniously look with different types of houses.

Glazed porch decoration

It is worth considering the design style of the glazed porch even before the glass is installed or even at the construction stage. First of all, you should pay attention to the material from which the house is built. If it is wooden, for glazing you need to choose either wooden frames or plastic windows. By choosing other options, you can spoil the style of the entire structure.

At the same time, it is important to glaze the porch in such a way that the windows of this extension are similar to the rest of the windows of the house. If this rule is neglected, the extension will look less natural.

If the house is built of brick, there are many options to choose from. For example, many create a porch, the corner supports of which are finished with bricks, and the space between them is glazed with plastic or wooden windows (as in the photo below). Also harmoniously near such a house looks like a design, almost entirely consisting of glass panels, which can be seen in the photo. Metal glazed structures are also suitable for a brick house.

Porch glazing is a controversial issue. On the one hand, it is nice to go out, breathe in the air, admire the views of nature, but on the other hand, an open extension loses its functionality if the weather is bad. A glazed porch, we selected a photo of interesting solutions for the article, protects the entrance to the house from precipitation and gusts of wind, and in addition, a few additional meters of usable area appear - this is practical, comfortable, convenient.

Next, we will examine in detail how to properly glaze the porch, what advantages appear in this case, how to choose frames so that they create a reliable barrier from the weather, but at the same time do not spoil the look of the house and do not block the landscape view.

Functionality and specifics

Of course, the glazing must be well thought out, organically fit into the ensemble of the entrance group, prevent the penetration of rain, wind, snow and cold into the house, but at the same time let in enough sunlight, and provide additional heat and noise insulation.

Porch glazing can be done in several ways, depending on the specifics of the extension, whether it will be warm or cold. Today, the construction market offers several options at once: sliding and frameless systems, PVC, aluminum and wooden windows. Each type of glazing has its own characteristics, and the choice mainly depends on the purpose of the porch.

Photo glazing of the porch of a country house, this option is most convenient if you want to close a small opening

Portal sliding systems

Portal glazing is possible if the porch has a reliable roof and 2 walls between which the system is installed. For shutters the high-strength glass-composite profile is used. Doors are equipped with rollers, and they move along a guide installed in the opening. The downside is that this is cold glazing, it will not be possible to insulate the porch, the doors can only open in one plane, and go one after the other, limiting the entrance. The maximum leaf height is 3 m, width is 1.5 m.

Plastic windows

PVC windows are the most popular and budget option for glazing the porch both in the cottage and in the country house. Depending on the specifics of the porch, plastic glazing can be warm and cold. Depending on the climate and the requirements for the extension, the thickness of the profile can be from 24-42 mm. To insulate an extension, double or more double-glazed windows are usually used, with a low-emissivity surface.

The market is represented by a huge selection of colored and textured PVC profiles, so porch glazing with plastic is suitable for different stylistic solutions. But the wide frame significantly closes the view, which in some cases is not acceptable for a private country house.

In addition, PVC windows have size restrictions, the maximum area of one leaf is 2.8 m 2, if you need to glaze the area more, then partitions are installed, 1 frame can be no more than 6 m2. The opening sash cannot be wider than 1.2 m and not more than 2.2 m high.

Photo of a glazed porch of a country house with plastic windows, for large areas, the PVC structure must be reinforced with jumpers

Aluminum profile

Aluminum systems allow you to glaze the porch with maximum light opening without any additional lintels. The blind sash can be 2 m wide, 3 m high, the maximum width of the opening sash is 1.2 m.

Aluminum systems can be of two types:

  • "Warm", in them the profile is equipped with special inserts and seals, which provide the required sound and heat insulation. In warm systems, 3-5-chamber double-glazed windows are installed, and a thermal insert up to 100 cm thick.
  • "Cold" windows have only one chamber, they do not have a thermal insert, and are usually equipped with lightweight fittings. It should be noted that such glazing reliably protects the porch from dust, wind and precipitation, but it is impossible to insulate the extension.

Cold aluminum glazing is comparable in price to plastic windows, but warm glazing of the porch with an aluminum profile is an expensive “pleasure”, and it is absolutely not advisable for the porches of small rural and country houses.

The combination of wooden and cold aluminum glazing is an ideal and inexpensive solution for large areas

wooden frames

Wooden windows are a traditional, budget-friendly and easy option for porch glazing. Of course, single frames with 4 mm glass will not retain heat in the extension during frost, so for warm glazing it is better to use more expensive wooden windows, with the possibility of installing a 2-3-chamber double-glazed window. The price for such systems is much higher than for plastic, and in addition, the tree must be carefully processed before installation, which further increases the cost of glazing.

Wooden frames are a traditional and inexpensive way to protect the porch of a rural house from the elements.

Frameless glazing

Frameless glazing is the ideal solution if the porch needs to be closed from gusts of wind and precipitation, but it will not protect the extension from the cold. The glass panels can be fully moved to the side, one by one, and rotated 90 degrees to provide maximum opening. For safety reasons, the sashes are made of tempered glass at least 8 mm thick.

Typically, such glazing is used for a porch in a large country house or cottage, where it is not necessary to save usable space by insulating the extension, but at the same time you want to protect the entrance from bad weather and maintain closeness to nature. Even when closed, frameless sashes do not interfere with the view, as they do not have any lintels and frames.

Photo of a glazed porch to the house, frameless systems let in sunlight as much as possible and do not block the view

There are many options for glazing, but in order for it to be of high quality, it is necessary that the extension has a reliable fence, foundation and roof. In conclusion, we recall that the construction of the porch and its glazing are reconstructive works, therefore, for their implementation, it is necessary to obtain special permission, and after installation, fix all changes in the BTI and property documents.

It is difficult to find a person who would not see the chic glass windows, glass doors and transparent panels of houses. Glass is increasingly pushing other materials in construction. Often you can see transparent fenced verandas and terraces, someone might be wondering if they should make a glazing on the porch of a country house?

Before you start realizing your dream, you should find out what types of glazing are, what are their advantages and disadvantages. The advice of masters and owners of such structures will help to draw the right conclusion.

The porch in the country can be glazed in a similar way

The need for glazing a country house

People are attracted to glass buildings for several reasons:

  1. increasing the thermal insulation of the house;
  2. obtaining additional premises;
  3. aesthetic appearance;
  4. convenience for going home from the street.

In fact, if you protect the space in front of the entrance doors from outside air, then in this place the temperature in winter will be slightly higher than outside, even in the absence of heating. The walls of the house, being protected from the wind, cool less. In summer, on the contrary, a closed veranda will prevent the penetration of warm air into the room.

One of the ways to warm the veranda

If the fenced porch does not have windows, it will be dark in it, there will be a need for electric lighting and additional costs for electricity. Therefore, it will be more practical if glazing is made. In this case, you will get an additional room where things will be stored. In summer, if it rains outside, children can play with pleasure on such a veranda.

Holidays in the cottage will not be spoiled in inclement weather

If possible, you can put a table, then adults will have a place to relax. Some are happy to eat outdoors, with sliding panels or opening windows, they will be able to appreciate such a veranda.

An open, sheltered place is soothing

Do not forget about the other value of such a design. The main thing that attracts to the glazed veranda is an unusual approach to architecture. It is completely or mostly open for viewing from the inside. It gives you the opportunity to feel unity with nature, which is impossible to feel with impenetrable walls. There is a bifurcated feeling of nakedness and security at the same time.

A successful combination of metal and polycarbonate

Another valuable quality of the intermediate enclosed space between the street and the house is the ability to get rid of dirt before entering the premises. In summer, it is possible to change wet clothes and shoes without fear of getting wet. In winter, it will be possible to calmly shake off the snow, which cannot be done in open space in a blizzard or snowfall.

The nuances of glazing in the house or in the country

With all these advantages, there are still points that you should pay attention to. So skeptics note the following disadvantages, which, in their opinion, outweigh the obvious advantages:

  • the structure is fragile;
  • attracts thieves;
  • high price.

Indeed, ordinary glass is brittle, especially if it is large. However, the production of durable glass has long been established, for example, thick or triplex. However, this issue should be taken seriously. If there is a possibility that a lot of pressure will be applied to the glass in the form of strong gusts of wind, then consideration should be given to the need to use small areas of this material. You can, of course, strengthen the structure, but this will lead to additional costs and complicate the structure.

The opinion regarding drawing unnecessary attention to material values \u200b\u200blocated inside the veranda is justified. To solve this problem, you can use one of the options:

  1. if the porch extends beyond the fenced private property, for example, to the street, only the upper part should be glazed;
  2. do not leave valuables on the veranda;
  3. use durable material for glazing;
  4. hang blinds;
  5. the installation of electronic watchmen in the form of motion sensors and sound alarms can help.

Raising window frames hides things from unnecessary attention

The last objection to price is also true. The development of new technologies is associated with material costs. Until these costs are recovered, the price for the material produced will be high. In order not to overpay, you can use a cheaper and less durable material - ordinary glass, but its quality and capabilities are much lower compared to package and polycarbonate. Other myths associated with panoramic windows can be seen in this video:

Glazing types

When choosing the type of glazing, several problems should be solved at once:

  • how much will the whole building cost;
  • what size will the new building have;
  • how it will fit into the overall architectural composition of the entire building.

The most common are the following types:

  • use of wooden frames;
  • using polycarbonate;
  • covered porch made of double-glazed windows;
  • aluminum construction.

Wooden frames are harmoniously combined with log houses of old buildings. The use of glass makes the construction much cheaper. The simplicity of manufacturing wooden frames makes it possible to do without hired teams.

Ability to work with wood

Polycarbonate can serve as an alternative to window glass. It is lighter and has great strength, but the main difference from glass is flexibility. Used at temperatures from -100 to +130 degrees, easy to cut. Can be used for warm verandas, does not transmit ultraviolet. Impact-resistant double-glazed windows are also well used in heated rooms, they are well mounted in window frames. Aluminum profiles have an invisible effect due to the small dimensions of the profile.

The original solution to remove the wall

Wooden frame glazing

This type, although it is the cheapest, still requires a special tool and certain skills. First of all, any glazing begins with the preparation of the site on which the structure will be placed. It must freely withstand the load of the frames, the pressure of the roof with snow and the movement of people. A construction drawing is being prepared, it will indicate what dimensions the frames will be and where they will be installed.

Durable woods are used as racks and crossbars. They must first be dried, otherwise the whole structure will “lead” and the glass will burst. As the wood dries, it shrinks, causing cracks to appear. Moisture, getting into such voids, creates favorable conditions for the appearance of fungus and some insects. Coniferous woods are used for frames, they tolerate dampness more easily.

After that, it is necessary to install a frame of vertical and horizontal crossbars, frames will be attached to them. Preliminary racks and crossbars are processed on a woodworking machine. To protect the tree from decay and darkening, it is covered with drying oil. They make a canopy over the veranda. Then proceed to the manufacture of frames, they can be one glass or many glass.

When creating a closed porch for a private house, all other work is first performed, for example, doors are installed, and only at the end are the frames fixed. They can be both fixed and hinged or have vents, this will allow you to ventilate the room in the summer.

Attention! Wooden frames with ordinary glass are very fragile and should be installed at a certain height from the floor to avoid breaking them and causing injury.

After installing and fixing the frames, everything should be carefully painted. Such a coating will give the veranda attractiveness and will protect the tree.

A well-chosen color transformed the structure

The disadvantages of wooden structures are insufficient strength and changing volume: over time, the tree dries even more, and cracks are obtained, in wet weather it swells, which prevents the hinged windows from closing. The first drawback can be eliminated by using polycarbonate, replacing glass with it.

Polycarbonate glazing

Polycarbonate has the following advantages:

  • easy;
  • lasting;
  • transparent;
  • has good thermal insulation properties;
  • flexible.

There are significant drawbacks: it has a large thermal expansion coefficient, needs protection from ultraviolet radiation. During heating, polycarbonate sheets expand greatly, so there must be a large gap at the joints or they are overlapped.

Cracks filled with foam

Important! In the absence of protection from ultraviolet radiation, polycarbonate quickly becomes cloudy and becomes brittle.

In Russia, polycarbonate is of two types:

  • cellular;
  • monolithic.

The thickness varies between 4 and 25 millimeters. It is produced in sheets measuring 2.1 by 6 or 12 meters. It cuts well, which allows you to accurately fit the bumps if they are difficult to remove. Its flexibility makes it possible to use it in structures where other materials cannot be used, for example, to create semicircular spheres. This gives refinement and softness to the outlines. If the question arises, what is the best way to close the porch from rain and snow, leaving the possibility of light to penetrate inside, then this material will be the most suitable.

A clear example of the flexibility of polycarbonate

To create a frame, use wide corners or a channel. Polycarbonate sheets do not attract much, giving them the opportunity to move freely. The joints are filled with silicone and covered with special tapes or strips. It is allowed to lay sheets on top of each other with a distance of 3 - 5 millimeters.

Glazing of the porch with double-glazed windows

The main difference from the two previous types is ready-made frames. There are single-chamber, the camera is created by two sheets of glass, two-chamber and so on. This view is the best when it is necessary not only to protect the porch, but also to make it warm. There are double-glazed windows with tilt-and-turn systems, they make it possible to open windows in horizontal or vertical directions.

Double glazing is used in the doors

To seal the seams between the double-glazed window and the frame, mounting foam is used, it must be covered with planks, since under the action of ultraviolet radiation it begins to crumble. Double-glazed windows are widely used in sliding structures, but due to their weight they require a good foundation. Since the frame is made strong due to the weight, this makes the whole structure resistant to the action of wind pressure.

Installation of aluminum frames for glazing

The use of aluminum structures is of great use in glazing verandas. The advantage is low weight and strength, so aluminum is used when using large sizes of glass and polycarbonate.

Used large sheets of polycarbonate

Panoramic frames are made from it, which are installed in hinged, fixed and movable structures.

In clear weather, the frames are easily removed

The following video shows the manufacture of a movable device:

The main disadvantage is the high thermal conductivity of aluminum, but when using a large amount of polycarbonate, which, on the contrary, does not conduct heat well, this disadvantage is smoothed out.

Properly selected material and well-designed design can bring with them many amenities and advantages to their owners. Therefore, it is important to weigh and calculate everything in advance before deciding on one or another type of glazing.
