Adjustment of metal-plastic windows. Self-adjustment of the plastic window. Plastic window consists of standard parts

It is not enough to install a PVC window block in the opening. It still needs to be properly adjusted so that the sashes close tightly and without problems. Also, periodic adjustment of the window must then be done independently or with the help of craftsmen in spring and autumn, in order to transfer it to summer or winter mode work. Moreover, this setting should be treated with all the attention. This is necessary not only to get rid of drafts, but also to increase the service life of the translucent structure.

  • Winter and summer settings

    In winter, the plastic window should be buried as tightly as possible to minimize air exchange between the street and the room. No one needs outdoor cold in the house in winter. In summer, on the contrary, even when closed, it should provide some air circulation (micro-ventilation) so that the room is not too stuffy due to the heat.

    Seasonal adjustment of the home window by transferring it to the “summer” or “winter” mode is carried out using locking pins on the side of the opening sash. They are fixed rectangular or roller (round with a risk on one side or oval).

    Types of pins on plastic windows

    Depending on the type, adjustment of this fitting is done by turning manually, with pliers, a screwdriver or a hex key. At the same time, in some cases, before turning, the mechanism must be pulled towards itself, and only then rotated.

    How to adjust window pressure

    The window trunnion can be set in one of three positions:

    1. "WINTER" - with maximum pressure.
    2. "SUMMER" - with a weak clamp.
    3. Neutral (standard).

    In the first case, on the round trunnion, the risk is turned to the street, and the oval is set horizontally. In the second, the risk is installed inside, and the oval stands vertically. The third option - the dash looks up, the oval is fixed at an angle.

    Instead of a movable pin on the sash, some window block manufacturers install a non-adjustable locking element in the shape of a rectangle. In this case, it is possible to adjust the plastic window only by adjusting the screw on the mounting plate.

    Adjustment of the window for winter and summer periods

    The main point of the seasonal adjustment of window sashes is the need to constantly transfer them from "summer" to "winter" and vice versa. With a strong "winter" pressure, the rubber seal is compressed, due to which it gradually begins to deteriorate. Often, the owners of PVC windows are faced with the fact that after a few years this gum has to be changed. This happens precisely because the sash, according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the window product, is not transferred to the summer mode with a weakened clamp, but left after the winter as it is.

    How to adjust the hinges of the plastic window sashes?

    In addition to seasonal adjustment of the degree of pressure, adjustment of plastic windows is also carried out by tightening / loosening the screws in the hinges with which the sashes are attached to the frame. There are two of them - one from below, the second from above. They differ in design, so they are pressed in different ways.

    Variants of plastic window mechanisms

    It is necessary to adjust the hinges on plastic windows due to:

    • initially poor illiterate settings of the window block during installation;
    • natural wear of the seal;
    • inaccurate and rough closing of the valves;
    • shrinkage window construction;
    • wear parts of the swing-out mechanism.

    As a result of all this, the sash sags and does not pretend to be tight or does not close at all. However, to return it to its place, it is enough just to tighten the hinges. Moreover, such a pull-up can be performed on your own. You do not need to call the wizards from the company that installed the window. It is enough to have a screwdriver and a hex wrench handy. This is not repairing gasoline generators for the home or a submersible pump for dirty water, everything is much easier with window structures.

    Places for adjusting the plastic window

    Upper

    The top hinge is adjusted from the side with a hexagon with a fully open sash. After turning the screw clockwise there, the window leaf moves away from the frame, and when tightened against it, it is pressed down so that the barrel is less blown from above.

    There is also another bolt on the top swing-out mechanism for finer adjustment. But to get to it, you will have to press the blocker (set it strictly vertically) and turn the handle to the top ventilation (also to the vertical position). As a result, the sash on top should pull away from the frame, hanging on the bottom hinge and opening full access to the top one.

    Top hinge adjustment

    It is important not to overtighten the adjusting bolts here. There should be a small empty space between the sash and the frame, where, when the window is closed, a tilt and turn device made of steel will be placed.

    lower

    The bottom hinge also has two adjustment screws. One of them is located on the side at the very bottom. He is responsible for adjusting horizontally - he presses the sash against the frame or pulls it away from it.

    The second is located directly in the rotary mechanism. To get to it, you need to remove the plastic cap-overlay from the loop. This screw allows you to adjust the opening window leaf vertically (height). Turn clockwise - it rises, against - it falls.

    Bottom hinge adjustment

    Manipulations during self-pulling of the loops on the plastic window should be done very carefully and without applying excessive effort. Do not immediately tighten or unscrew the adjusting screw all the way. It is better to turn it a quarter of a turn first and close the sash to check to see how much it has become evener in the frame. And only then, if necessary, you can tighten the bolt even further.

    How to adjust the handle

    The handle on the PVC window unit is actually not regulated in any way and does not affect the degree of pressing the sash. It does not participate in the adjustment of the window, but is only a mechanism for attracting the opening leaf to the frame, as well as transferring the latter to the micro-ventilation position and opening from above.

    However, often the handle becomes loose or starts to jam. To tighten or replace it, it is enough to get to a couple of bolts. They are located under a plastic overlay located on the profile at the base of this window fitting. This plug needs to be slightly pulled and turned, the fasteners are immediately available.

    Arm adjustment

    If the handle turns hard or is stuck, then the problem usually lies not in it, but in the hinges and the top folding mechanism. These window elements are directly related to each other. A wave is possible when the metal elements are rusted. Then the lever inside the profile will not allow the handle to turn. To get rid of this problem, you need to lubricate the hinges.

    How to fix window problems

    Problems with window blocks are the most varied. In some cases, it will be enough to do the simplest adjustment of the plastic window with the tightening of the adjusting screws with your own hands, while in others it will be necessary to change the broken fittings. Here, in many ways, as with heating - most often to achieve comfortable temperatures in the room, you can simply turn the room thermostats for gas boilers. But in some situations it will be necessary to rebuild the existing heating system with the replacement of some of its elements.

  • To date, metal plastic windows are a popular product with all users. Almost every apartment in the house has PVC windows installed in at least one room. But during operation, various problems may occur. For example, windows can seize, Maybe don't turn the knob or there may be other problems with opening and closing windows. In order to solve the problem, you need to know how to adjust plastic windows.

    It is worth noting that PVC windows cease to function correctly not only due to the long time of operation. And given the average service life of windows (more than 15 years), it is unlikely that the owners of such double-glazed windows should have any difficulties. However, problems do happen, and often enough. And if there is no way to call the master or there is no desire to spend money once again for repairs, you can independently carry out basic adjustments to the plastic window, which will help get rid of most problems.

    When and why is adjustment necessary?

    Of course, do-it-yourself adjustment of PVC windows is necessary as necessary. As soon as a certain problem arises, you should immediately look for ways to eliminate it. Even with the correct initial “calibration”, problems can arise later. They are associated with improper operation techniques, deformation of fasteners, violations of structural integrity, tightness, etc.

    What problems can be eliminated using self-adjustment of PVC windows?

    Tip: If you cannot independently and accurately determine the cause, you need to seek help from the master. Still, it is better to pay for minor repairs than to replace broken parts of a metal-plastic structure.

    Tools required for adjustment

    In order for the plastic windows to be adjusted independently, you will need a few tools. The setting is carried out using:

    • A set of hexagons (a 4 mm hexagon must be included);
    • Cross-shaped and star-shaped nozzles for a screwdriver (as a rule, they should be marked “T” or “TX”);
    • Phillips screwdriver size 3 or 4;
    • pliers;
    • General purpose WD-40 spray and regular machine oil.

    Mainly used only hexagon, which in everyday life is called a furniture key. This is a small L-shaped metal hexagonal rod, which, for ease of use, can be made in S-shape.

    Star nozzles are necessary for working with certain models of fittings, so it is better to take several of these nozzles. As a rule, the fittings are fastened by craftsmen with ordinary screws and a Phillips screwdriver, so you will need the latter to adjust it.

    The adjustment process is greatly simplified in the event that the operation of sliding windows is disrupted. In this case, all work comes down to setting up roller carriages designed to fasten the sash.

    The main adjustment points for PVC windows

    In total, there are five adjustment points on the window that help you make the right settings. Let's take a closer look at each of these points.

    All of the above points can be used to calibrate all existing window positions. As a rule, all manufacturers produce standard window models, so if your metal-plastic double-glazed windows were not made to order, then there will be no difficulties in determining each adjustment point.

    Tip: Immediately after you find these points, check them for deformation - in this case, you will need to immediately contact the master. And if garbage is found, you need to remove it and try to re-perform the action that was previously performed with difficulty.

    General features of PVC window adjustment

    How to properly adjust plastic windows and how to do it yourself? It must be remembered that there are different models windows. They provide for the presence of different fittings, double-glazed windows and durability. We have tried to summarize existing options and bring out common features, which allow you to customize windows.

    Horizontal adjustment

    To move the frame or eliminate a slight bevel, it is necessary to use the horizontal adjustment, which is carried out using bottom And top loops. The hinges themselves have special holes for the hexagon. The lower hinge allows adjustment both from the outside and from inside(accordingly, you can configure open or closed window). As a result of turning the key clockwise, the sash with the loop will be tightened. As a result of this action, the bottom of the window, which is on the opposite side of the hinge, will rise. Accordingly, when rotated counterclockwise, the lower part of the window will fall.

    Horizontal adjustment of plastic windows can also be independently carried out in the area of \u200b\u200bthe upper hinge, as a result of which the top of the sash will already be adjusted, but this should be done only with the window open. It should be noted that the shift is carried out within 2 mm.

    Vertical adjustment

    Metal-plastic windows can be calibrated vertically using bottom hinged loop. For this action, it is necessary to open the plug to allow free access to the hexagon. The sash will start to rise when the hexagon is rotated clockwise, in the opposite direction the sash will start to fall. As with the horizontal adjustment, the shift range is 2mm.

    Sash pressure adjustment

    It is used when there is blowing from the PVC window. The quality of the clamp can be checked as follows: a lit match is brought to a closed PVC window and the flame movement is observed. If it deviates to the side, then there is a gap in the window.

    In this case, the clamp is adjusted with the help of eccentrics, which are located along fittings perimeter(this method is used to adjust plastic windows for the winter). As a result of turning the handle, they go beyond the pressure pads. Since the setup does not present any particular problems, it can also be done independently.

    The sash pressure is adjusted using eccentrics (trunnions)

    The sash will be pressed against the frame if the eccentric is moved clockwise. Accordingly, when the eccentric is shifted counterclockwise, the sash will move away from the frame. On the surface of the eccentric there is a small strip with which you can determine the degree of compression of the sash and frame. The closer this strip is adjacent to the seal, the stronger the sash is pressed.

    The adjustment range is within 1-2 mm. A more or less strong pressure on the sash is allowed in different time of the year - in summer you can loosen it, and in winter tighten it more. This is done to ensure air supply - more air will pass in the summer, and less in the winter.

    Tip: Do not overtighten the sash and frame. This can lead to premature wear of the seal.

    Hinge adjustment

    The flip window has two hinges that can be adjusted to improve functionality. The lower hinges are adjusted by means of a screw located horizontally on them. In order to adjust the pressure of the upper hinges, you need to open the PVC window for ventilation (turn the handle so that only the upper part of the window opens). In this case, you need to hold the window with your hand, since it will only be held on one, lower hinge. Hinge adjustment helps determine how tight the hinged window is. The allowable range is within 2.5 mm. By increasing the distance, the window will fit less on the hinges and more air will be supplied. By reducing the distance, the window will fit closer to the hinges and provide reliable protection from outside air.

    Conclusion

    The following conclusion can be drawn: the adjustment of all positions of the adjustment points can be carried out even in the absence of experience. The only requirement is to be careful. Incorrect calibration may cause the window to stop functioning properly. As a result, you will have to call the wizard to reconfigure.

    Adjustment of plastic windows video

    In this section, we suggest you watch a video on the topic of our article on how to adjust plastic windows.

    Do you have any questions? Ask them in the comments!

    When it blows from the window, it does not close well or the sashes stick, you start to think that plastic windows need to be adjusted. And we independently come up with something to enclose, seal, press more tightly, and then we turn to specialists. The cost of this service is in the range of 500-700 rubles, and sometimes you have to wait for the promised one for a week. Therefore, it is possible even to eliminate the loose fit of the sash or touching the frame with your own hands, the main thing is to read a little about it.

    At the windows and pvc doors(balcony) regulation mechanism is very similar. Therefore, all the knowledge below can be used for both doors and windows.
    Any design has three external adjusting screws (on the side and top of the window): adjusting the sash to the right - to the left, top - bottom, the level of pressing the sash to the frame.

    To understand what to do with them, we will consider frequently occurring situations.

    We will immediately deal with the problem: In the ventilation mode, the sash touches the fittings on the frame or it blows strongly from the top of the window. And in order to eliminate this complexity, you need to adjust the upper hinge, it is responsible for the ventilation mode and the pressure density of the sash itself.

    To adjust the upper hinge of the plastic window, it must be opened approximately 90 degrees.

    Most often we work with a hexagon number 4. We find the screw hole, turn it clockwise.

    With different window fittings, in different places there may be a screw, as in the photo.

    And the glass starts to move left and right (in the ventilation mode).

    The picture clearly shows where you can find the screw on all hinges.

    Adjustment of lifting, pressing and shifting of the sash of a pvc plastic window or door

    The sash can be raised or lowered, moved to the side and pulled closer to the profile.

    Let's consider the situation that one sash sank down, as in the photo, and as a result, its upper part forms a gap with the frame, where the wind blows and the cold wind goes.

    You may need a screwdriver, an asterisk instead of a hex.

    To correct this situation, we find a side adjuster. Positions right-left and top-bottom. To raise the edge of the window, we begin to turn the screw.

    The photo shows that the sash has risen and is now almost at the same level.

    Now, we will press the sash to the frame and stop blowing, we need an upper adjuster.

    It is also twisted with a hexagon.

    To lift the sash up, rotate the hexagon in the direction of the clockwise direction.

    This is done when the lower part of the sash touches the frame from below.

    Switching to winter-summer mode

    Factory windows come to us set to neutral. If you need to switch to winter, you need to make a minute adjustment of the sash and press it tighter to the rubber.

    We proceed to the process of adjusting the sash mode.

    To test the tightness of the fit, you need to take a bill. When we close the sash, the bill should be firmly pressed. If the banknote moves freely, then the frame needs to be adjusted.

    You need to check at the bottom of the window, in the middle and on top.

    For work on adjusting the mode, we need an open-end wrench or pliers.

    We open a window or door to see from the inside round, and sometimes oval fixtures in three parts of the sash - these are eccentrics or trunnions.

    We will adjust the mode by turning the pin from the central part to the right clockwise or to the left - counterclockwise. The eccentric moves closer to the frame elastic or moves away from it. By making this distance, the sash is pressed more tightly.

    And now we turn the trunnion with a hexagon. It has a dot or notch that shows what mode the door is currently in.

    Summer mode, when the eccentric moves towards the street, and looks towards the apartment in the winter mode, it turns out that it is pressed more tightly against the frame elastic.

    When you turn the handle, you will feel that you need to apply additional force, which means that the rubber is firmly pressed against the sash and the winter mode is set.

    Types of fittings

    To avoid misunderstanding, it should be understood that there are many types of fittings, so some adjustment points are sometimes moved. In some cases, a hexagon will come in handy, and for some, pliers or a screwdriver.
    Almost all brands of mechanisms have different kind but they have the same principle.

    In the photo you can see some variations of window fittings.

    Another type of hardware.

    I gave several options, this, of course, is not all. Sometimes even pins may not be on the sash itself, but on the profile. But, having understood the meaning, you can already figure it out on the spot.

    I think that any man is able to lift or press the PVC window sash more tightly according to these instructions, and wait for the window master for a week because of ten minutes of adjustment.
    Do you agree with me?

    Over time, even for perfectly installed initially plastic windows, adjustment or maintenance may be required. The reasons can be different - house drawdown, wear of fittings, poor quality of the window frame material, etc. Yes, and there is nothing eternal, but with timely care, you will greatly extend both the functionality of your windows and your nerves, enjoying using windows or plastic doors , and not a constant influx of negativity every time you use the window.

    Usually adjustment and minor repairs specialists are engaged, but this is associated with a number of inconveniences - you have to wait for the arrival of the master, you spend not only your time, but also your money, paying for the work of a specialist. But, in most cases, window adjustment can be done independently and this does not require any special skills, tools and skills. Everything is pretty simple.

    The main signs when adjustment of a plastic window is required.

    This also applies to plastic doors- and the signs and methods of adjustment are completely identical.

    • When opening - closing the sash clings to the box or fittings.
    • The lower part of the sash sagged and touches the frame when opened.
    • When the window is opened, the upper part of the sash falls out and the window hangs on one lower mount.
    • The window or door does not close tightly, the draft is noticeably drawn, the sound insulation is reduced
    • The handle has become loose or vice versa has become very tight.
    • When the window is open, the handle jams and the window does not close.
    • The window opens with great effort.
    • Creaking of hinges, mechanism of fittings.

    If these signs are present immediately after installation or during the first week of operation, then it is advisable to immediately contact the installers to eliminate the cause. With improper installation of plastic windows, it is simply impossible to achieve high-quality functioning of a window of any brand and any cost only by adjustment. Partial dismantling, alignment and re-fixing of the window will be required. This can also happen with a poorly fixed window or door frame. In this case, as a rule, the defect does not appear immediately, but after a short time.

    If the above signs appeared after 0.5-1 year of operation or more, then most likely this is our case and you will be able to independently adjust the plastic window or balcony door.

    What tools are needed to adjust the window?

    Basically, only a hexagon is used, which in everyday life is called a furniture key. This is a small L-shaped metal hexagonal rod, which, for ease of use, can be made in an S-shape by 4 mm. (In rare cases, a different size). Often comes with accessories. If you do not have this, after measuring the size, buy in any hardware store- it costs a penny, it will always come in handy.

    You may also need a Phillips screwdriver. Basically all the tools.

    plastic window design

    The manufacturers and brand of the window, as well as the fittings used, may be different, but standard design hinged window is the same. If the window is not hinged, but simply rotary, then the design is simplified and the upper mechanism of the hinged window is not used. The rest is the same.

    Exactly the same mechanism in plastic doors such as balconies.
    Once again, we note that each manufacturer of accessories has whole line options to the standard set. These can be functions:

    Child protection;
    - protection against squeezing of a shutter;
    - additional ventilation mode - micro-slot winter (between the frame and the sash a small gap is formed along the perimeter, when the handle is turned up by 45 degrees);
    - fixing of shutters in various provisions;
    - external handles, etc.

    But the principle and method of adjustment is the same. Next, consider the points and places of adjustment.

    The lower hinge allows you to move the bottom of the sash up - down, left - right and adjust the pressure.

    The trunnions of the locking mechanism are responsible for pressing the entire sash. In some types of fittings, the pressure is regulated by otvetki, on the frame.

    The upper part of the tilt-and-turn mechanism, called "scissors", can shift the top of the sash to the left - to the right and work with a clamp.

    What and where to regulate in a plastic window for various signs

    1. The sash is sagging, there is friction when opening or closing the window.

    This is eliminated either by lifting the sash upwards, or by retracting the bottom of the sash in the direction of sagging, and the top in the direction of the hinges. It is clear that before adjusting, we remove the decorative cap from the hinge, using a flat screwdriver, simply by pushing it up. We insert the hexagon from above into the hole and turn the stop screw (pictured on the left). When twisting (clockwise) - the sash rises, and falls when twisting.
    To shift the bottom of the sash, turn the screw on the frame part of the hinge on the side (in the photo on the left). If the key is turned clockwise, the window sash is attracted to the hinge

    The displacement and adjustment of the top of the sash to the left and right is carried out by a screw located in the scissors, from the side of the upper hinge. To get close to it, you need to open the sash and rotate the screw to the desired position of the sash. Make adjustments smoothly. Turn a half turn, check, then another half turn. Try to make adjustments in a complex way, with various screws according to the rules of school geometry.

    2. The window or door does not close tightly.

    Adjusting the pressure density of the plastic window sash is made by rotating the eccentrics located around the perimeter. To reduce the pressure of the window sash against the frame, you need to rotate the eccentric counterclockwise. To increase the pressure and reduce the gap (eliminate the gap), it is necessary to turn the eccentric counterclockwise. Also, the clamping mechanism is located on the hinges, its adjustment is carried out with the same hexagon key.
    Adjustment must be made around the entire perimeter of the sash. In some brands of fittings, the pressure density is regulated by the counterpart, which is located on the frame.
    The extended tongue in the clamping mechanism means that the sash is firmly attached to the frame. On the hinges located on the left side of the window, to increase the pressure, turn the hexagon to the left or right - if the hinges are right-handed.

    It should be remembered that the stronger the window pressure, the faster the seal will wear out and the handle will turn harder when closing the window. Choose the right middle ground.

    Below are various options adjustment of a plastic window or door. What and where to turn you have already figured out.

    3. The handle is loose or too tight to turn.

    In any case, you will need to get to the handle mount. It is attached to the window with screws, which are closed with a decorative plate. This plate must be rotated 90 degrees at the base. Next, either tighten the mount if the handle is loose, or unscrew and lubricate. By the way, it will not be superfluous to lubricate other rubbing mechanisms. WD-40 is fine as a lubricant. Silicone Grease or machine oil.

    These simple steps on adjustment and prevention of mechanisms of plastic windows, as well as plastic doors done on time, will increase their service life for a long time, and you will have nerves and financial waste. In fact, everything is simple and accessible to anyone, including a woman, if a man is not around.

    Self-care may be required in various cases. It happens that windows are initially mounted incorrectly, and sometimes they warp over time. Also, many factors can affect their condition. When installed, it is made by installers according to the parameters of the opening. If everything is done correctly, problems should not arise in the future. Plastic windows can serve faithfully for forty years and even longer. And yet, over time, unpleasant situations are likely to appear, often associated with external influences.

    Possible breakdowns and their consequences

    The most common problems that reduce the quality of the structure are the deformation of the window or the deterioration of its waterproofing and heat-shielding characteristics, which occurs as a result of seal wear. If the house is brand new, you may need to adjust the hinges of plastic windows, perhaps six months after they were installed, because the building may shrink. External factors often lead to the fact that the fittings begin to jam, as a result of which the movement of the wings becomes difficult, drafts occur, and therefore the sound insulation is disturbed.

    All this will help to avoid. It should be done independently approximately once a year. Of course, you can resort to the services of specialists, but why spend a lot of money when you can bring the structure into working condition with your own hands, spending only ten to twenty minutes on it? plastic adjustment Rehau windows, Veka, KBE and most other brands is relatively simple, because they are equipped with fairly convenient mechanisms.

    Basic structural elements

    • Frame - plastic fixed part of the window. Shutters are attached to the frame.
    • A sash is the part of a window that opens.
    • A double-glazed window - the glasses which are hermetically fastened in a special way. Packages, depending on the number of glasses used, are single-chamber (one chamber and two glasses) and two-chamber (two chambers and three glasses).
    • Fittings - window hinges, locking devices, handles, latches and other mechanisms necessary for opening the sashes and fixing them in a certain position.
    • Reinforcing profile - reinforcing steel element, which is located inside the PVC profile. It is necessary to give the window structure rigidity.
    • Impost - a box profile intended for the porch of the sashes. It is also necessary for hanging sashes in three-stage windows.
    • Shtapik - a special plastic lath which holds a double-glazed window in a window.
    • The ebb is an extensive and flat profile, installed outside. It is designed to drain rainwater from the window.
    • Slope - a profile that is used for neatly trimming side surface window opening.

    Types of faults

    Plastic windows can be adjusted independently in cases where:

    Tools for repair

    Troubleshooting structures, as well as adjusting plastic windows for the winter, will be difficult if you do not have certain tools available. But it is worth noting that only the most elementary devices are needed for repair, namely:

    • hexagon size 4 mm;
    • pliers;
    • a set of "stars";
    • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers.

    General principles of adjustment

    Majority modern windows designed so that it can be produced in 3 planes at once. This makes it possible to achieve maximum right position in the sash frame and the optimal pressure level of the seals around the perimeter of the opening part of the window. Depending on the hardware manufacturer individual elements work may differ, but in general, the adjustment of plastic windows, which everyone can independently make, involves horizontal and vertical adjustment, as well as optimization of the sash pressure. Next, we will talk about what actions should be performed in each case in order to fix the problem.

    The sash touches the frame from below or from the side when closing

    It is necessary to move the sash to the side or top of the upper hinge. To do this, open it and turn the adjusting screw located at the very end of the sash, not far from the upper hinge, with a hexagon three to five turns clockwise. After that, you need to close the sash and remove the cap from the bottom hinge, and then turn the bottom hinge three to five turns clockwise with a hexagon. That's all, it remains only to check the free movement of the sash. If the problem persists, repeat the above steps again.

    The sash does not fit snugly against the frame

    On the sash, on the side end on the side of the handle, there is a system of eccentrics. It allows you to adjust the density of the clamp to the frame. Depending on the manufacturer, externally, these designs may be different, but they have an identical principle of operation. The eccentrics should be rotated with a hexagon or pliers until the required degree of fit of the sash to the frame is created.

    Clamps adjustment

    If blowing is felt around the perimeter of the sash, then there is a problem with the clamps, and they must be adjusted. Opening the sash, on the side you will see oval clamps, when you turn the handle, each of them goes into its place on the frame. To ensure maximum fit to the frame, you can turn the mechanism with pliers and set it perpendicular to the sash. If you set the clamp parallel to the sash, a minimum fit will be ensured. Adjusting plastic windows for the winter just consists in changing the position of the clamp in such a way as to block air from entering through the cracks.

    Hinge adjustment

    Inflating can also be from the side of the loops. If you remove the cap from the bottom loop, you will see a hole in the shape of an asterisk. Insert a suitable screwdriver into this hole and turn it until it stops. So you press the sash to the frame as much as possible. If you turn the screwdriver in the other direction, move the hinge as far as possible from the frame.

    As for the top loop, you should pay attention to the special tongue on it. It is a blocker, in other words, a limiter. Often it is provided for tilt-and-turn window models. If the blocker is pressed, you will not be able to turn the handle either up or down. The adjustment of the hinge in this type of construction is carried out by setting the position of the tongue parallel to the sash and lifting the handle up until it folds out. As a result of such actions, on the upper hook on the inside you will see a hole for the hexagon. The closer the mechanism is to the edge, the greater the pressure, the farther from the edge - the less. After adjustment, it is necessary to return the sash to its original position by pressing the tongue and turning the handle.

    Adjustment of plastic windows: winter/summer

    As you already understood, it is recommended to set a strong pressure of the sash to the frame in winter, and a weak one in summer. If there is no need to adjust the pressure on the side of the hinges, then you should carry out the actions using the adjusting screw that is on the lower hinge. If the design has a tilt-and-turn sash, you need to additionally adjust the sash pressure with the top hinge. To get to the screw, you should open the sash, press the lock and turn the handle to the “ventilation” mode. By rotating the stopper clockwise, you will press the sash against the frame, and by rotating the blocker counterclockwise, you will move it away.

    Some types of fittings are adjusted using special screwdrivers located on the side of the handle on window frame. Using a hexagon, you can change the position of the screwdrivers. Plastic windows, which are self-adjusting for the winter, will reliably protect you from the penetration of frosty air if you move the screwdriver closer to the street. Thus, you will ensure a stronger pressing of the sash to the frame.

    Turning the handle to the “closed” position does not close the window

    In order not to break the hardware mechanisms, turn the window handle only at the moment when the sash is closed. To prevent accidental turning of the handle, certain locks are provided that prevent this from being done when the sash is open. The limiters can be of different types depending on the hardware manufacturer, but they are always located under the handle at the end of the sash. To unlock the handle and close the window, you just need to press the lock.

    When the sash is closed and the handle cannot be turned, the window does not close

    If the handle does not turn when the sash is closed, then the limiter clutch and the mating element on the frame did not work. There are two ways to troubleshoot:

    1. Using the adjusting screw located under the lower hinge, move the sash slightly to the side, to where the counter element of the blocker is located.
    2. Slightly loosen the mount, and then insert between the mating part of the limiter and window frame a thin plate of some hard and strong material.

    Handle broke

    Gently pull the handle cover towards you, and then rotate it perpendicularly. Loosen the screws and remove the defective handle. When a new piece of fittings is installed, return the trim to its original position. Window handles are available at many hardware and hardware stores. Replacing the mechanism may be required not only in case of a breakdown, but also if you want to install a modified handle, for example, with an additional lock.

    The handle is hard to turn

    The most common cause of this problem is a lack of lubrication. Mechanisms should be lubricated at least once a year, and preferably more often. An aerosol lubricant or machine oil is suitable for this purpose. Remember: the control of the technical condition of the structure, even in the absence of clearly expressed defects, must be carried out regularly.

    Finally

    So, adjusting plastic windows on your own is a completely simple, one might even say, elementary process. However, despite the simplicity of the troubleshooting methods presented above, you need to start manipulations only when you clearly understand what and how to do. If you are worried that the existing skills will not be enough, and adjusting the plastic window with your own hands is beyond your power, it is better to turn to professionals in this matter.
