    Visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha - this is one of the most interesting and popular buildings of the complex. It houses the main shrine of the country - a statue of Buddha 75 cm high, made of jade. The exact date of its creation has not been established, but it is known that it was found in the 15th century in one of the temples in the north of the country. Three times a year, a solemn ceremony of changing the magnificent attire of the Buddha takes place, in which the king himself takes part. This is done to bring good luck in the coming season.

  • And in this oceanarium you can take a walk on a boat with a transparent bottom, feed the sharks and even swim with them.

    In the Open Ocean zone, it seems that you are underwater in the open ocean

    Ayutthaya

    An hour from Bangkok is the ancient city of Ayutthaya. Founded in 1350, it was one of the largest and most beautiful cities in the world. For more than 400 years, the city served as the residence for the kings of the Siamese Empire, until the Burmese conquerors destroyed it in 1767. And although Ayutthaya is no longer the capital of the state, the ruins of the city have become one of the most popular attractions in the country. Now this magnificent open-air museum is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Wat Chaiwatthanaram is one of the most famous temples of the ancient part of Ayutthaya.

    Don't hesitate to explore the ancient capital for a full day - it's really worth it. The historical center of Ayutthaya is an island that is surrounded on three sides by rivers. Most of the most interesting temples are located in its northwestern part. Be sure to visit:

    white temple

    Wat Rong Khun, or the White Temple, is one of the most unusual and memorable Buddhist temples in Thailand. It is located in the north of the country near the city of Chiang Rai and is made entirely in white. Thanks to this technique, it seems that the building is floating in the air. The dazzling white color of the temple is designed to emphasize the purity of the Buddha. Construction began in 1997 by the artist and sculptor Chalermchai Kositpipat at his own expense.

    Wat Rong Khun is the only white temple in Thailand.

    On the territory of the complex there are sculptures of creatures from Buddhist mythology. Interior decoration The temple is no less impressive, and the murals on the theme of the struggle between good and evil are represented not only by traditional Buddhist motifs, but also by such modern heroes as Neo from The Matrix, Spider-Man and others.

    The word "wat" is translated from Thai as "temple", "monastery".

    In the Mini Siam Park in Pattaya, you can see in a reduced form the most famous sights not only in Thailand, but throughout the world. It consists of two parts:

    Not far from Pattaya is a very beautiful tropical botanical garden Nong Nooch. It was founded in 1954 on a 600-acre site by Pisit Tansaka and his wife, Nong Nooch, after whom the park is named. Tourists have been coming to admire its beauties since 1980 to this day.

    Nong Nooch Park won the 2010 Most Beautiful Garden in the World award at the UK Florist Show

    The territory of Nong Nooch is divided into several thematic zones, each of which is dedicated to a specific theme: cacti, palm trees, aquatic plants, orchids and bonsai. There is also the French Park, created in the image of Versailles, and the Stonehenge Garden in the English style. The Garden of Pots deserves special attention, where you can see amazing sculptures from these vessels in the form of cars, buildings, steam locomotives. It is equally interesting to stroll through the Butterfly Garden, the Bird Garden and the Elephant Farm, as well as watch the amazing elephant show.

    Most of the ceramic vessels in the Pot Garden are made in the Thai style and fired in a kiln.

    Railay Beach

    The Railay Peninsula, located in the province of Krabi and cut off by rocks from the land, is known throughout the world for secluded beaches with white sand and clear turquoise water. You can get here only by water, so boats regularly run to the beach from the pier of Ao Nang and Krabi town.

    Surrounded by dense vegetation and mountains, Railay is also good for hiking.

    This is a real tropical paradise where you can not only bask on the magnificent beach and swim in the warm sea, but also go diving, rock climbing or explore the local caves. Not far from Railay is the famous James Bond Island, which you will also want to see.

    The small limestone island of Koh Tapu gained its extraordinary popularity after the release of the film about the adventures of James Bond.

    What to see depending on the season

    Thailand welcomes tourists all year round. But the bulk of vacationers come here in winter, when the sweltering heat recedes and there are no heavy rains. The best time for sightseeing and beach holidays is from December to March. But to get acquainted with exotic Thai cuisine and the peculiarities of the local way of life, any season is suitable. And yet, every season in Thailand has its own characteristics.

    In addition to beautiful beaches and entertaining excursions, tasting local exotic fruits is also popular among tourists in Thailand.

    Spring period

    The hottest period in the country is from March to May. At this time of the year it is hot and very humid. But the prices for tours are significantly reduced. For recreation, the central, eastern and northeastern regions of the state are best suited.

    If, like me, you adore beautiful nature and ancient temples, but don’t really like crowds of travelers, come to Thailand in May, June and July. This will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the most interesting sights of the country in a calm atmosphere and take a lot of beautiful photos near them, and not against the background of tourists endlessly scurrying back and forth.

    Summer tourism

    Summer in Thailand is the rainy season, which peaks in August. And although these months are not the best time for calm swimming in the sea due to high humidity and a large number of waves, surfers from all over the world come here just at this time. And even in summer, tourists are attracted here by lush tropical greenery, beautiful full-flowing waterfalls, an abundance of fresh fruits and the lowest prices from travel agencies. At this time, the most comfortable weather conditions are in the north and northeast of the country.

    The nature of Thailand after the rainy season impresses with a riot of greenery

    autumn journey

    Autumn in Thailand is off-season. In September, the rainy season ends, by the end of autumn the weather becomes most pleasant. At this time, the sea is clear and warm, and the beaches are still not crowded. The autumn months are also great for sightseeing. At this time of the year, you can safely go to rest in any part of the kingdom, with the exception of only the northeast, where it can still be rainy.

    Winter holidays

    Most tourists come to Thailand from November to February. At this time of the year, there are very comfortable weather conditions for a beach holiday, however, the prices for tours are the highest. The largest influx of tourists falls on the New Year and Christmas holidays. In winter, any resort in the kingdom is suitable for relaxation, but still the best are on the Andaman coast, as well as in the east of the country.

    Winter is the perfect time of year for a beach and sightseeing holiday in Thailand

    What to see if your stay is limited

    If your trip to Thailand is very limited in time, it is important to plan as carefully as possible in advance. Below are some of the possible routes.

    day trip

    If you come to Thailand for just one day, dedicate it to getting to know Bangkok. During this time, you can see quite a lot of interesting things:

  • the Grand Royal Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha on its territory;
  • Temple of the Reclining Buddha;
  • Temple of the Sunrise, or Dawn, which is especially beautiful at dawn and sunset;
  • Baiyoke Sky observation deck.
  • And in the evening, be sure to dine in one of the cozy restaurants and try delicious local dishes.Plan for three days

    For three days in the kingdom, you can visit many interesting places and relax by the sea. Here is one option:

  • Dedicate the first day to getting to know Bangkok.
  • On the second, head to Ayutthaya, which is just an hour's drive from the capital.
  • The third day do not regret for a beach holiday. The closest to Bangkok are the beaches of Hua Hin and Pattaya, Bang Saen, Khao Takiab and Cha-Am.

  • Khao Takiab Beach is good because there are extremely few waves here.

    Itinerary for 5 days

    For a five-day trip around the kingdom, this option is suitable:

  • See the sights of Bangkok.
  • Move to Koh Samui. It will be convenient and quite inexpensive to get by plane to Surat Thani, and from there by ferry to the island itself. Baan Tai Beach is especially good for relaxing on Koh Samui. In the evening - again on the ferry to spend the night in Surat Thani.
  • In the morning, take a shuttle bus to Khao Sok and devote the whole day to a walk in the national park of the same name.
  • Take an excursion to Cheow Lan Lake - one of the most beautiful places in Thailand.
  • Next, make a trip to the wild jungle near the city of Koh Phangan and James Bond Island. It is most convenient to fly back from the airport in Phuket.

  • Cheow Lan - a huge man-made lake in the Khao Sok nature reserve

    week rest

    If you have one week at your disposal, then there are many more options for relaxing. You can simply choose any resort you like and spend this time there, swimming in the sea and sightseeing. And you can devote this week to getting to know Northern Thailand. In this case, the route is:

  • It is good to spend the first day in the city of Chiang Mai, especially in its old part.
  • We stay here and continue to explore the temples and museums.
  • You can go to the hot springs and the Salawin Park in Mae Sariang.
  • Then continue exploring the sights of Mae Hong Son.
  • Schedule a visit to the ancient Kayan tribe.
  • Explore the natural beauty and surroundings of Pai City, swim under a waterfall and take a mini-hike through the narrow Pai Canyon.
  • Although sightseeing and relaxing on the beach are the most popular ways to spend time in Thailand, I still recommend that you try something completely different - participate in a silence retreat. My favorite is the Deepabhawan Meditation Center on Koh Samui. Here you take a vow of silence for 7 days, and spend most of the day doing meditation: sitting in the hall or while walking. Why is all this necessary? The retreat is a kind of detox program for consciousness. Here answers to many questions come, you begin to better understand yourself and life in general, and you get a huge boost of energy at the end of the course. From my own experience, I can say that even daily meditation for 15–20 minutes gives a visible effect, let alone a weekly course, and even among tropical greenery!

    What to see with a child

    Snow-white sand, clear sea water, bungalows with hammocks, kids collecting pebbles in warm waves - this is how a dream looks like, which becomes a reality in Thailand. There are many family-oriented hotels, as well as a lot of entertainment and excursions outside of the hotels.

    chiangmai

    Chiang Mai is a large but rustic city. It will be a convenient base from which to discover the wonders of Northern Thailand, and will especially appeal to little adventurers and anyone who loves walking, city life and amazing food. The best time to visit Chiang Mai is from September to February.

    Chiang Mai Zoo is famous not only for its vast territory where animals live in the closest to their natural environment, but also for a family of cute little animals - pandas.

    This city offers a lot of entertainment for children:

  • culinary lessons;
  • elephant rides Maesa Elephant Camp;
  • zoo;
  • night safari for older children;
  • mountain bike trips;
  • river cruises (Mae Ping River Cruise);
  • flights to balloons(Balloon Adventure Thai Company);
  • horse riding among the picturesque surroundings;
  • climbing - will be a real hit for children over eight years old.
  • The indescribably beautiful island of Phuket has become one of the most attractive resorts in the kingdom for families with children. There is an international airport here, where there are direct flights from Russia. The best time to visit Phuket is from February to April.

    Life-size copies of gigantic reptiles lie in wait in the dinosaur park at every turn: pterodactyls, brachiosaurs, corythosaurs, deinosuches

    There are many entertainments for children in Phuket:

  • parks of dinosaurs, butterflies, birds;
  • aquarium;
  • excursions to neighboring islands;
  • tiger kingdom;
  • aquapark;
  • elephant palace.
  • Koh Samui

    Koh Samui combines a developed infrastructure and relative isolation. There are a large number of settlements and beach entertainment centers, where there are always many options for outdoor activities. The best time to travel is from December to April.

    Butterfly Garden, which its employees call the kingdom, is located in the southeastern part of Koh Samui, next to Lamai Beach

    On Koh Samui with a child it is worth visiting:

  • aquapark;
  • Safari Park;
  • aquarium;
  • zoo with tigers, leopards, panthers;
  • Tropical Butterfly Park
  • a farm where various animals and birds live.
  • Resort Pattaya

    Holidays with children in Pattaya have a number of both positive and negative points. Here, one of the lowest prices among the resorts of Thailand, and there is also a wide variety of entertainment, attractions and excursions. And at the same time, it is a very noisy and crowded city, and the sea is not very clean almost everywhere. Therefore, the choice of the beach should be taken carefully. The cleanest and calmest: Jomtien, Wongamat, Pratumnak and the beaches of Koh Lan.

    Ramayana - the largest and best water park in Thailand

    In Pattaya there are many interesting places for families with children:

  • oceanarium;
  • Mini Siam Park;
  • Nong Nooch Botanical Garden;
  • zoo;
  • crocodile farm;
  • elephant village;
  • Ramayana water park
  • tourist map

    Landmarks of Thailand

    Since I have been to Thailand so many times that I’m even tired of counting, and in total I lived in Thailand for more than two years and independently traveled almost all the sights of the country of smiles - temples, markets, historical and national parks, beaches and forests, mountains, caves and waterfalls - then tell me something. I will list the main regions of Thailand:

    • First, this Bangkok- the capital of Thailand and the city where most of the tourists first arrive, starting their acquaintance with the country and its attractions there.
    • Secondly, beach resorts in thailand, where guests from Russia usually get for the first time. Therefore, for them, Thailand is primarily its beaches. At the same time, it is important to understand that Thailand is not like islands, but part of the mainland in Southeast Asia. Therefore, Thailand has several coasts:
      • Western coast of the Gulf of Thailand, where there are resorts such as the island Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Hua Hin, Cha-Am, Chumpon and many others.
      • Eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand- this is a well-known resort Pattaya, the islands of Koh Chang, Koh Samet and others.
      • andaman coast in the Indian Ocean, where the famous island is located Phuket, resorts Krabi, including Phi Phi, Phang Nga, Khao Lak and the islands of Similan and Surin.
    • The next most popular region of the Kingdom is north of thailand. It is usually customary to separate two northern directions: with the center in cities Chiang Mai And Chiang Rai, but I will combine them into one.
    • Central Plains also traditionally divided into northern and southern. I will also talk about their attractions, because they are united by the historical past of Thailand: it is here that historical parks are located Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kampaeng Pet. And also one of the most interesting tourist provinces called Kanchanaburi- unique in its nature and participation in the events of not so long ago - the Second World War.
    • Northeast(or Isan) is a region on the border with Laos and Cambodia, which is considered the least visited region of Thailand. It is distinguished by the special mentality of the inhabitants of the Mekong Valley and the fact that some of the Khmer temples are located there, such as.
    • extreme south- This is another region of Thailand where tourists rarely drop in and where the Muslim population of the country is concentrated. It is also interesting for its sights, and there is also a curious historical city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and the largest lake.

    I will now tell you in detail about all the regions of Thailand and their attractions. If you are just going on vacation to Thailand or are planning a trip by car in this country, then it will be extremely useful for you to use this my guide to the sights of Thailand with the most complete practical information and a lot of photos, tips and recommendations. It will help you navigate the variety of popular tourist destinations and choose the most interesting ones for yourself. At the end of it, you can also see a map of all the attractions discussed in this article.

    Recommendation: The best way to explore the city of Bangkok and its life is to take a boat ride along the main waterway - Chao Phraya river, as well as through the numerous channels of the Thai capital (they are called klongs), which will immediately give you an idea of why this city was nicknamed the Venice of the East.

    Bangkok markets are also an important attraction of this bustling Asian metropolis.

    • All tourists are well aware of the famous Khaosan Road, shown in many films, and its night market which opens before sunset.
    • It is impossible to imagine a visit to Bangkok without visiting the main Damnoen Saduak floating market which is located 60 km from the city.
    • Also don't forget to go to the huge Chatuchak market, which is located in the northeast of Bangkok, and where you can buy almost everything.

    Shopping in Bangkok will be of interest to literally all people who came to the capital of Thailand:

    • Most tourists are more interested in the modern look of Bangkok, so they choose large shopping centers with boutiques and shopping malls in the Siam area. So a trip to Bangkok can be a good reason to buy a new iPhone and upgrade your other gadgets, or replenish your wardrobe with clothes from famous brands, like in.
    • And in order to plunge into the atmosphere of old Bangkok, go shopping in the Rattanakosin area, where you can visit several of the most famous temples Thailand, plunge into the nightlife of discos and bars or visit the main street of backpackers - Khaosan Road.

    It is also worth seeing Bangkok from a bird's eye view. To do this, go to the observation decks of the highest hotel in Southeast Asia - Baiyoke Sky. The tower of this hotel is an important landmark in Thailand.

    The best beaches in Phuket These are Patong, Karon and Kata. They are located on the west coast of the island.

    What else to do and what to see in Phuket?

    More in Phuket mono visit pearl factory and the forest of Khao Phra Theo, where rehabilitation center for gibbons. And the best evening shows in Phuket take place in Phuket FantaSea. Some tourists even compare them with the best. And don't forget the Big Buddha!

    • Koh Samui beaches
    • waterfalls
    • Big Buddha
    • Developed infrastructure

    Koh Samui(Koh Samui) is the largest island in the Gulf of Thailand (after Koh Chang), which is located 700 km from Bangkok. This is one of the most developed sea resorts in Thailand, with a lot of interesting sights. On the island of Koh Samui there are many different hotels for different tastes and budgets. And around the island of Koh Samui there is a ring highway linking all its beaches and port.

    As in any other beach resort in Thailand, the main sights of Koh Samui are its beaches. And since beaches on Koh Samui quite a lot, and they are all very different in quality and location, I will briefly describe them:

    Koh Samui is one of the attractions of a beach holiday in Thailand

    What to see on Koh Samui:

    • Waterfalls Na Muang And Hin Lat. They can be found in the center of Koh Samui (entrance from the west coast).
    • Big Buddha is a 12-meter statue of the Sitting Buddha, which is located on the territory of Wat Phra Yaai in the north of Koh Samui.
    • Stones " Grandmother and grandfather"(Hin Ta and Hin Yaay) are rocks that depict reproductive organs and are an interesting attraction and a place of pilgrimage for both locals and tourists.
    • Temple Wat Plai Laem famous for the beautiful statue of Buddha, and most importantly - the lake in the middle of the temple. Reflection of temple buildings, palm trees and white sand create a tropical and exotic atmosphere.
    • Samui Aquarium and Zoo. Here you can see exotic tropical animals and fish, as well as visit the performance of marine animals and see trained tigers.
    • Secret Buddha Garden is a rock garden among tropical greenery and waterfalls.
    • Observation deck Lad Ko offers panoramic sea views. It is located on Chaweng Beach.
    • Mummified Monk sits on a hill next to the highway from Nathon to Lamai.

    • Phi Phi Islands
    • Railay beaches
    • emerald lake
    • Pranang beach
  • I do not advise you to skip atmospheric if you are interested in history. It was the first capital of the medieval state of Lanna, which created this entire unique landscape of northern Thailand.
  • Away from the main roads lies its main temple, decorated with unique frescoes of the Tai Lu people.

    • Ruins of the city of Ayutthaya
    • Monkey City Lopburi
    • Erawan seven-cascade waterfall
    • Death Road to Kanchanaburi
    • Ancient temples in Sukhothai

    The main attraction of the Central Plains of Thailand is, of course, the historic city, which has been the capital of Thailand for 400 years. Located not so far from Bangkok, Ayutthaya is located on an island surrounded by rivers. Personally, I was particularly impressed by the temples of Wat Phra Si Sanpet and, of course, the majestic Wat Phra Mahatat. It is in Ayutthaya that you can see the head of the Buddha among the roots of a large tree, which is so often published among photos of the sights of Thailand.

    The ancient temples of Ayutthaya are a very popular attraction in Thailand.

    A little north of Ayutthaya is another remarkable historical city - Lopburi. In addition to royal palaces (King Narai's Palace, for example) and ancient ruins, it has gained fame as the "City of Monkeys". The fact is that hundreds of wild monkeys really roam the city, and most of them are concentrated near historical monuments. So hurry up to take cool photos with monkeys near the ruins. But be careful: after all, the monkeys in Lopburi are very spoiled and behave extremely arrogantly. And they are protected by law as a local attraction.

    Not far from Bangkok, in the city of Nakhon Pathom, there is a giant - the largest stupa in Thailand. Only the one destroyed in Myanmar can be compared with it in scale.

    To the northwest of Bangkok lies among the mountains, among the endless forests of which seven cascades with turquoise water lurk and built during the Second World War under the leadership of the Japanese by captured people from different countries (including from Australia). With the Erawan waterfall, everything is simple: you can come to the entrance to the national park and make trekking to its top. I liked it there so much that I went to Eravan twice. But the railway can be viewed in its different sections - on or next to, which tells about the hard labor of captive Thais and Burmese.

    In Erawan National Park, the main attraction is the 7-cascade waterfall (pictured)

    Sukhothai Historical Park is another important attraction in Thailand worth seeing.

    In the northern part of the Central Plains, there is another capital of the Thai state, the predecessor of Ayutthaya - and its satellite cities - and. These are completely restored cities with more than 40 temples, which I enjoyed exploring, because Thai art of the 13th-14th centuries was full of expression. Fans of climbing the ruins of ancient sights should definitely like it here!

    Good to know:

    Si Satchanalai Historical Park

    I advise the most curious travelers to definitely go to the cities hidden behind the mountains at the very Burmese border with its unique charm and Umpang - the unofficial trekking capital of Thailand. Here is one of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand - Ti Lo Su. The scenic road leading to Uprang ends in this city, and then you can only go on foot (as in the USA)

    • Khmer temples Pimai and Phnom Rung
    • Elephant festivals in Surin and rocket festivals in Yasothon
    • Pu Kradung Plateau
    • Loei Province
    • Temple Wat Prathat Panom

    Among the attractions of Thailand in the Mekong Valley, it is worth highlighting the most iconic Temple Wat Phra That Panom in the city of Nakhon Panom. A golden slender Laotian-style stupa stands on the banks of the Mekong and looks out over neighboring Laos and the city.

    To better feel the similarities between the Eastern Thais and the Laotians and understand their differences from other residents of Thailand, I advise you to go to. A large river serving as a border between two states unites people. Having traveled by car or buses to various sights, you can meet a beautiful sunset and spend the night in the town of Chiang Khan, as we did.

    Tour along the Mekong. Of course, we did not ride bikes, although it would be a cool route!

    • Wat Prathat Mahatat in Nakhon Si Thammarat
    • Historic city of Songkhla and the largest lake
    • Islands around Trang
    • Deserted beaches of Tarutao Park

    And if you want a typical holiday in Thailand at sea, but without huge crowds of tourists, then you should think about islands near Trang- these are the islands of Koh Muk, Koh Kradan and others. Further south, almost on the border with Malaysia, is Turatao National Marine Park, with the best Thai beaches and the best diving. There are hotels on Koh Lipe and Koh Adang, while other islands can only be visited during the day.

    What else to see in Thailand

    In our articles on our website, we talk in some detail about the various sights of Thailand that we personally visited during our many trips around this country. In them, we share useful tips and recommendations that will be useful to independent travelers when planning their route or to those tourists who want to book an excursion or buy a ready-made tour.

    Since tourism in Thailand is currently at its peak (as in), showing a steady year-on-year growth in the number of vacationers (mainly due to Chinese tourists), tourism infrastructure is constantly improving in the country of a thousand smiles, new roads and hotels are being built . And if earlier it was quite difficult to get to some of the sights of Thailand, now it has become much easier.

    Therefore, before traveling to Thailand, it will not be superfluous to find out on our website the most up-to-date information about those places that you want to visit in Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi, Koh Samui, Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai or other interesting sights, as well as where to choose a hotel in Thailand, so that it is convenient to see them yourself. You can also ask your question about all the sights of Thailand in the comments to this article, and we will answer you to the best of our ability.
