Ways to use solutions of succinic acid

The main ways to use acid in houseplant care are:

Soak

For soaking seeds, a weak acid solution is usually taken - 0.004%. It is prepared from 40 ml of the base, into which cold water is added to one liter. Seeds are kept in the resulting solution for 12 to 24 hours.

For cuttings, stronger solutions are usually used - 0.01- or 0.02% concentration. The duration of soaking is about half a day, after which the cuttings are immediately planted. In addition to accelerating the formation of roots and their active growth, this procedure also stimulates the overall development of plants.

Tubers, bulbs or cuttings of rhizomes, which are kept for 6 hours before planting in a 0.01- or 0.02% solution, quickly grow, show high resistance to any adverse conditions and diseases, especially fungal ones.

During the transplantation of indoor flowers, including due to diseases or pests in the soil, the roots are kept in an acid solution of the same concentration for half an hour.

Such treatment has a therapeutic effect, accelerates the growth of roots, protects against the stress that a transplant usually causes, especially at inopportune times (due to diseases, pest attacks, or banal damage to the pot). Soaking the roots can be replaced by spraying them with a 1% solution.

Important! After spraying, the roots must be dried for two hours.

The basic solution of succinic acid is often used when attacking pests. As a rule, flowers are either sprayed or rubbed on leaves, trunks, twigs and stems with a cotton swab dipped in the solution. There are only 2 noticeable shortcomings in the Yak:

For the purposes of crop production, succinic acid is produced as a growth biostimulator in the form of a preparation of 99.5% purity, pos. 3.

For indoor plants, succinic acid is often used in the form of pharmaceutical pills (pos. 1 on the next fig.) or tablets, pos. 2, especially in places where there is no agricultural chemical store nearby.

Preference should be given to pills, they have less ballast (filler). They and YAK tablets from the pharmacy must be dissolved so that the filler does not get into the solution:

  1. The pill (tablet) is placed in a bag of dense chemically neutral fabric. Best of all - in the filter from a medical dropper. Replacement - flaps of kapron or nylon tights in 5-8 layers.
  2. The pouch is hung high glass vessel from 1 l hot water so that the tablet is completely immersed in water. The vessel is not shaken, not shaken, the water in it is not mixed.
  3. After complete dissolution of the tablet, the mother liquor is carefully drained so as not to “capture” the filler sediment at the bottom.
  4. The working solution is prepared by pouring the mother liquor into a pre-measured amount cold water thin stream while stirring.

Note: succinic acid solution dosage forms must be used immediately, because from contact with air, it deteriorates in a few hours. The mother solution of YAK from the preparation for the purposes of agrochemistry is stored in the dark in a tightly closed container made of glass or PET for up to 3 days. The working solution in this case is also used immediately.

Succinic acid as a health, cosmetic product and food bioactive additive (BAA) is produced under a wide variety of names, pos. 3, 4. It is undesirable to use YAK - dietary supplement for the purposes of agrochemistry, because YAK - dietary supplements contain water-soluble ballast and other active substances that are not needed by plants and are not useful for them.

Processing methods and recipes

Due to the general strengthening effect, succinic acid for plants is used in the following. qualities:

  5. For routine treatment of plants undergoing stressful conditions;
  6. After transplanting indoor plants;
  7. To stimulate the formation of children in succulents;
  8. To save dying valuable plants;

Pre-sowing preparation

The use of succinic acid for pre-sowing treatment of seeds is justified if they are, in principle, viable, but aged for a year or two. Seeds of crops are by nature weakly germinating, it is better to treat with drugs with a strong directional effect, for example. epin. Germinating seeds are also treated with succinic acid, but requiring special conditions for germination, e.g. orchid seeds. In this case, the anti-stress and adaptogenic properties of UC are used.

The dosage of succinic acid for pre-sowing seed treatment is 2 g per 1 liter of water (0.2% solution) or 2 medicinal tablets for the same amount of water. If the rejection of non-germinating seeds is not necessary, the seed is soaked for approx. hours. Before sowing, the seeds are dried on a cloth in the shade at room temperature OK. half an hour until dry from the surface.

If it is necessary to carry out a rejection, soaking is carried out in a flat wide vessel like a Petri dish at room temperature in a shaded place. The working solution (0.5 g per 1 liter, 0.05%) is added every day instead of the evaporated one, and soaking is continued until the seeds hatch. The hatched seeds are selected with tweezers and dried before sowing, as indicated above, but in this case it is impossible to delay sowing in any case. Also, you can not use a working solution from tablets.

For rooting

Succinic acid is used to stimulate rooting when the phytohormones usually used for this are too strong. For example, if the plant, in principle, is cutting, but weak, and there is simply nowhere to take a copy stronger. Or in the case when cuttings are the only remaining way to save a dying flower. However, it must be remembered that succinic acid is a general tonic, but not a phytohormone that stimulates cell division and differentiation of growing tissues. You need to take on the stalk that part of the plant with which it is grafted and without stimulation. For example, it is possible to cut leaves with cuttings of rex begonia or uzambar violet saintpaulia; trying to cut conifers with succinic acid is useless. Usually, a part of the shoot with 2-3 leaves is taken on the cutting, and the lower half is cut off.

The cuttings to be rooted are soaked in a 0.5-1% solution of succinic acid for 10-12 hours. If the solution is from tablets, they are taken 2 per liter of water, but no more - there will be no sense, only the cuttings will disappear. Soaking cuttings in succinic acid is carried out next. way:

Note: for delicate grassy cuttings, it is better to make holes larger and wrap each cutting with cotton wool before placing it in the tire.

For survival

The survival rate of rooted cuttings and seedlings is increased with a 0.25% solution of succinic acid. The cuttings are processed when root caps and hairs appear on the roots in the manner described above, but a larger layer of solution is poured. The solution mirror should fall on the root neck, and the roots should not reach the bottom for approx. by 1 cm. Soaking time - hour.

It is easier with seedlings: they are laid out in a tray with clods of earth close to each other, watered with the same solution, and planted. It is impossible to postpone the planting of seedlings treated with succinic acid the next day or later!

Against stress

Anti-stress treatment with a solution of succinic acid is used mainly for orchids and flowers similar to them in biology, originating from tropical rainforests (monstera, anthurium, begonia rex, rattan). The daytime heat there seems to be suffocating due to the high, almost always 100% humidity, but in reality the daytime temperature is approx. +26, and at night it gets so cold that you have to wrap yourself in a blanket. It is impossible to provide such conditions in a city apartment of temperate latitudes, even if there is an air conditioner. winter indoor orchids spend in hibernation; here it is more difficult to wake them up in the spring. But home orchids experience the most severe stress during the growing season, in summer, when it is hot and dry. Therefore, the methods of anti-stress treatment of orchids with succinic acid in winter and summer are significantly different.

Winter treatment of orchids is carried out with a 0.05% solution of succinic acid (1 g per 2 liters of water) or, if the solution is from tablets, the tablet is diluted in 2-3 liters of water. Plants are treated by spraying from a sprayer, giving the smallest, foggy, spray. The frequency of processing - once every 2-3 weeks; indoors with furnace heating- once a month. If in the spring the orchids do not wake up, you need to use epin to wake them up, and not improvised means, because. then it turns out that the winter stress was too strong and / or prolonged.

Note: spraying orchids with a 0.05% solution of succinic acid once a month can be done regularly all year round if the plants are cultivated indoors with central heating in an old house with regular windows, not plastic with heat-reflecting glasses.

Summer treatment of orchids against stress with succinic acid begins when signs of plant oppression appear: sluggish flowering, leaves droop, new peduncles do not form. Working solution - 0.2% (2 g per liter), or tablet per liter of water. Periodicity - 2 weeks. You need to spray in the evening, at night. If the plants began to come to life, a month after the first spraying, they are also watered with the same solution at night and the treatment is stopped. They start again if they begin to wither again. For epiphytic orchids in baskets, watering is replaced by abundant spraying of the substrate and hanging roots.

Note: in general, summer treatment with succinic acid, as for orchids, is necessary for any indoor epiphytes. In this case, the property of YAK to maintain and stabilize the soil microflora is important, which is extremely important with a very limited amount of substrate.

After transplant

A cultural room grower knows that transplanting and transshipment of a plant are essentially different procedures. During transshipment, the plant is really transferred with a clod of earth into a large bowl, and during transplantation, the roots are washed from the ground, revised, and the diseased, dried and rotten ones are cut off. Usually sick and ill plants are transplanted, so transplanting for them is a lot of stress. To avoid its consequences, the clean roots of a plant ready for transplantation are soaked for half an hour in a 0.1% solution of succinic acid. Tablet solution in this case is not suitable.


The exception is amaryllis, hippeastrum, clivia, krinum. Their roots stick to the walls of the pot, as they say, they stick, so that the ceramic dishes have to be broken, and the plastic ones have to be cut to extract the flower. Therefore, for such plants, transshipment is always a transplant. Therefore, treatment of the roots with succinic acid is also necessary: ​​the lobe of the roots is immersed to the bottom of the bulb in its 0.05% solution and kept for half an hour.

For precious children

Cactus breeders (oh, and this is a peculiar people) have an “anti-golden” rule: the more valuable the species, the more difficult it is to get children from it. The same applies to other succulents: haworthia, euphorbia (thrush). Succinic acid will also help in this case: the plant is watered with a 0.2% solution, or a tablet per liter of water. Watering, which stimulates the formation of children, is carried out at a strictly defined time: in the spring, when the plant starts to grow. In order to prepare a solution of succinic acid for spraying plants, take 1 tablet or 0.5 g of powder per 1 liter of water. First, the drug is diluted in a small container with warm water, after which the amount of liquid is gradually increased to the required volume. The finished solution is stored for no more than three days in a dark place, inaccessible to children and animals, at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.

Small errors in concentration do not lead to any serious consequences, since the plants absorb the amount of solution they need. But too strong a concentration can lead to burns of the foliage and root system. If the drug is in tablets, before buying it is advisable to read the composition and choose the option where there are no additional substances: talc, ascorbic acid, starch, etc. The presence of glucose in the composition is allowed.

Many people think that they use succinic acid as a fertilizer, but it should be remembered that succinic acid is a growth stimulator, not a fertilizer.

Important: it is advisable to spray the plant no more than two times in a row with an interval of 2-3 weeks. Excessive stimulation of metabolism can adversely affect his health. Some flower growers recommend using succinic acid no more than once every 2 years.

  • The rapid rooting of the cutting is facilitated by immersing the lower part of the cut shoot in the solution for a day.
  • To stimulate growth, spray the top of the plant regularly in the morning or evening, at least twice a month.
  • Resuscitating a dying plant, a concentrated solution is prepared: 0.25 grams of succinic acid per liter of water, with which it is watered and sprayed.

Top dressing and resuscitation of indoor flowers with succinic acid

Regarding the use of succinic acid, flower growers have an ambiguous opinion. Some do not imagine caring for plants without it, others prefer traditional methods. But most orchid lovers use the drug as a growth stimulant, a means of resuscitation, and when the roots rot.

In case of rot on the roots or trunk of an orchid, it is necessary to clean it to living tissue and remove all affected areas by treating the sections with a fungicide. To stimulate the growth of new roots, the orchid can be fed on a leaf and cotton pads with a mixture of a concentrated solution of succinic acid (2 tablets per 0.5 l of water) and a complex of B vitamins diluted in 1 liter of water can be applied to the trunk.

Florists recommend using the same recipe when wrinkling leaves, for growing babies on peduncles. Some liquid ones, which are preferred by orchid lovers, already contain succinic acid, but its amount is not always indicated. Flower growers who deal with violets and gardenias also use this tool as a growth and flowering stimulator.

The effect of the use of succinic acid is not noticeable to all growers. After a single treatment of a plant, indoor flower lovers expect some miraculous result and are disappointed in the preparation if nothing happens. But most still see its positive effect: an increase in the number of buds or the appearance of a rich color in the leaves. It shows up best on young plants.
