The bottom of the machine frame, H-shaped, 90×60 cm, is made of rectangular steel pipe. A two-inch round pipe with a height of about one and a half meters is welded to the jumper 30 cm from the edge at a right angle; the welding site is reinforced with gussets in the shape of right triangles 5 mm thick. The old hub is put on the pipe for attaching the wheel and welded to it. The installation height of the hub is adjusted to the height of the person so that the wheel lying on it is approximately waist-high. The pipe should rise above the cylinder by at least 30 cm and not interfere with work. Somewhat below the hub, weld a bracket for attaching the bead breaker device, which can be made from a fragment of a steel sheet 4–5 mm thick by drilling a hole in it for a bolt.

The lever for removing and installing tires is made of a steel pipe about one and a half meters long, and the tips for it are made of steel rod with a diameter of 20 mm. The length of the lever may be different, it all depends on the strength of your hands and the amount of free space in the garage.   6. When the top bead of the tire fits onto the rim, you can inflate the wheel.

The smaller the angle at which the bead tip is welded to the lever, the easier it is to put the rubber on the disc. But don't overdo it.

If this angle is too small, the lever will touch the disc and scratch it during beading, so look for the optimum.

The machine turned out to be very light, so for comfortable work it must be secured to the floor. If your garage floor is wooden, then attach the base to it with self-tapping screws. If the floor is concrete, then make several holes in it, install 8-point anchor bolts in them, and fill them with cement mortar.

To make work easier, and to avoid harm to the rims and tires, be sure to lubricate the lever tips, wheel rim, and tire bead with a thick soap solution. To do this, do not work with a dirty wheel; always start by cleaning it.

To repair wheels that differ from yours in the number of mounting holes and the distance between them, make adapters with studs. They should be made of metal about a centimeter thick.

Preparing to start installing the tire

Taking into account all of the above, I set myself the task: to develop a simple and small-sized device that works in conjunction with a jack (available with any car) and facilitates the beading and beading of tires. According to reviews from fellow car enthusiasts who had the chance to use this manufactured device, and based on personal experience I can say that the problem was solved quite successfully.

The device consists of three parts (assembly units) that have very simple design. They can be made by a DIY car enthusiast with basic metalworking skills. The design and operating principle of the device are clear from photographs and drawings. The plank is a steel plate with dimensions of 140x36x4 mm. Three threaded (M8) pins are welded to it, perpendicular to its plane: one in the middle and two at the ends.

The outermost mounting pins are the same - simple threaded rods. The distance between them on the bar corresponds to the diameter of the circle along which the centers of the mounting holes of the car wheel disk are located (for Zhiguli - 100 mm). The central pin is stepped: at the bottom there is a collar-heel, above there is a thickened part, at the top there is a rod-axis with a thread at the end.

The collar serves for better stability, the thick part serves to support the rod at the height of the wheel rim, the rod-axle serves to fix one of the ends of the rod to the rod. Fastening the pins on the plate - any in an accessible way: on threads with locknuts, riveting in square holes, etc. as long as the pins don't fly out and turn.

I have these parts inserted into round holes with a diameter of 8 mm in the plate and welded to it from below. In order to speed up the installation of the device on the wheel, appropriate wing nuts were selected for the pins (if there are none, then you can get by with ordinary ones). The rod is made of steel rod with a diameter of 16 mm. One end of it is sharpened to the profile of the mounting blade and well polished. Near, behind profile surface and in its plane, a hole with a diameter of 9 mm was drilled in the rod.

The other end is bent in a heated state with a hook and here, not far from the end, the same hole is also drilled, only its axis is perpendicular to the axis of the hole at the other end of the rod. The cable is steel. Its diameter is selected so that it “doubly” easily passes through the lower hole in the heel support and in longitudinal groove jack stands into which it is inserted for operation. The cable is tied into a ring.

When working, it is better to leave the place of the tie outside the “pulling” zone - throw it on a support (wheel wrench) or on the jack bracket. The tire removal device operates as follows. First, a strip is secured to the wheel rim using outer pins and wing nuts. Then the straight end of the rod is inserted under the bead of the tire (like a mounting paddle), and its curved end is put on the central pin of the bar and secured with a wing nut.

Next, a “balloon” wrench is inserted into one of the windows closest to the bar in the wheel disk (head up) and the lower outlet, the loop of the cable ring, is placed on it. Its other outlet, previously passed under the bar and into the heel hole, is placed on the jack bracket. After this, the jack is installed on the rod, and its handle rotates “ascending”, i.e. clockwise.

In this case, the cable is “selected” and moves the rod with the jack to the place where the lower loop of the cable is attached (to the head of the wheelbrace), and the straight end of the rod brings the tire bead to the wheel rim. Then the wheel key is moved to another window and the operation continues. When replacing a tire, its second bead is brought out in a similar way to the same side of the disk.

The force on the jack handle when performing this work is approximately the same as when lifting a car. To mount the tire on the wheel, the position of the rod changes. Now its curved end is inserted between the rim and the tire bead, and the straight end is attached to the central rod of the bar. The positions of the key, cable and jack remain the same as when removing the tire.

The device is designed for the jack of Zhiguli type cars, but by adjusting certain dimensions of the parts it can be made for other jacks of various brands of cars. The use of the device is especially effective when mounting and dismantling tires with hard sides.

But the most important thing is that not only the wheels and tires, but also the hands remain intact. The reliability of the device is ensured by the simplicity of its design. At a short distance from the hub, a bracket is welded that will attach the bead breaker device - it is made from a steel sheet 4-5 mm thick, in which a hole is drilled for the bolt.

For the tips I used a turned 20 mm rod. The rod was clamped into a yew and, with the help of a cleaning wheel, it was achieved the desired shape, after which he took a flap circle, ground it and welded it to the pipe.

Regarding the damaged wheel, it must be repaired as quickly as possible (either at a service station or on your own), because anything can happen on the road, and there will be nothing to replace a broken wheel.

How to do tire fitting yourself, what tools are needed

The wheel is replaced using a jack and a wheel wrench.

Home tire fitting is usually carried out in the garage. To disassemble and bead a tire, you will need mounts (mounts). Essentially, these are small flat crowbars. In the worst case, chisels are used to remove (put on) the rubber.

Sledgehammers and heavy hammers should not be used to avoid damaging tires, rims and tubes.

  2. the second pry bar is inserted after 15-20 cm and inserted into the next section of the tire bead and so on until the bead is completely removed
  3. In the same way, the second side of the tire is freed from the disk.
  4. the removed rubber is removed by hand

The new tire is mounted on the rim as follows:

  1. one side of the rim goes overboard
  2. the mounting blade is placed between the wheel and the tire, and part of the bead is inserted behind the wheel flange
  3. with the second blade, after 10-15 cm, the next part of the tire is started by the edge
  4. the first blade is removed and installed behind the second and so on
  5. after placing one bead of the tire in the rim groove, the same operations are performed with the second bead of the tire
  6. At the finish line, the installed tire is inflated

Tire repair is done using “raw rubber” with an electric vulcanizer or using a patch with glue. If the puncture hole size exceeds 12 mm, the tire cannot be repaired.

It is almost impossible to remove tubeless tires without special tools. You can purchase various devices at car service centers or make them yourself.

Homemade tire mounting device

To carry out tire fitting, you can buy used equipment or make a special machine yourself. His drawings can be easily found on the Internet. This is a design with two levers, one of which is fixed, and the second (movable) is equipped with a stopper and a pawl. By pressing the lever, it is very easy to tear the rubber off the rim.
