We sew a lampshade with our own hands. Beautiful do-it-yourself chandelier shades: a step-by-step master class (photo)

lampshades

An organza lampshade looks simply amazing, and you don’t need to water such a flower.

Materials and tools:
. Marsh Gold Organza and turquoise color
. Golden green beads
. golden wire
. Aerosol acrylic paint golden color
. Lamp
. Glue
. Pliers
. wire cutters

1. We cut out 40 petals along an oblique line from an organza of two colors.
2. We fold the petals of two colors in pairs and step back from the edge of 0.5 cm. We sew with a zigzag seam with stitches 2 cm wide. Cut off the excess fabric. Lightly pull along the seam of each petal so that the edges are wavy.
3. We cut the wire into 20 segments 10 cm long and fasten at their ends along the bead. We collect blanks in a bundle. We twist the ends of the wire so that a flat leg is obtained. These will be takedowns.
4. Cut off a wire 35 cm long and string 50 beads on it. We bend so that there are 30 beads on one end and 20 beads on the other.
5. Using glue, we fix the petals on the lampshade so that we get a flower.
6. We attach the stamens and a long wire, imitating brushes.
7. Paint the lampshade leg with gold paint.

making such a lampshade

An ordinary lampshade under an elegant cover looks completely new. The most suitable fabrics are light, rigid and transparent. Choose such tones so that a warm, caressing light comes from the lamp, white, cream and pink shades create a good mood. You can successfully use the old lampshade. For an ugly frame, take an opaque fabric - taffeta, light silk or thin cotton. If you like the color of the lampshade, let the design show through the transparent cover.

Curly lampshades
According to this method, the lower cover and the gathered upper cover are sewn separately, which are held on by an elastic band. The lining is put on the lamp and the upper edge of the lampshade, and the outer cover is attached a little lower, while the junction is hidden under a wide ribbon. Decorate the cover with a silk ribbon, light braid, emphasize its narrowed part with a bow, rosette or silk flower - this is a convenient occasion to practice with decorations. You will need: Concave frame or lampshade. Centimeter, ruler, pencil and scissors. Paper. Textile. Threads. Elastic band 6 mm wide. 2 safety pins. Tape 50 mm wide.

Measurements. Measure the lower circumference (A) with a centimeter, add 4 cm for the seam. Measure the length of the side (B), add 8 cm to the drawstring for the elastic. Determine the height of the outer cover (C) and add 1.5 cm for the hem. Write down your measurements.

Calculation of fabric consumption. According to the measurements taken, taking into account the allowances for the seams, draw a rectangle AxB on paper. Draw a second rectangle, taking into account the gathering allowance Cx2A. Determine the fabric consumption from the pattern - you need to cut one rectangle of each size.

Open. Poke the pattern onto the fabric with pins along the lengthwise and cut out the outer cover and lining.

Stitching lining and cover. Stitch the short sections of the lining with a French stitch. On open sections, stitch the drawstrings, tucking them first by 3 mm, then by 12 mm. On each drawstring, leave unsewn sections to thread the elastic. French stitch the short sections of the outer cover. Turn one long edge 3mm over and stitch. Tuck it in again by 3mm and stitch again.

Lining fit. Thread the elastic bands into the drawstrings, fasten the ends with pins. Put the cover on the lampshade, tighten the elastic bands so that the cover fits the lampshade. Trim the ends of the elastic bands and sew them together. Sew the drawstrings with a hidden seam.

How to measure the elastic band for the outer cover. Wrap the rubber band around the lampshade at the level of the top edge of the cover. Stretch the elastic band slightly so that the cover fits snugly. Cut off the elastic and sew the ends.

Attaching a rubber band. Fold the elastic in four, mark the folds with pins. Fold the cover in the same way and mark the folds. Pin the elastic to the top edge of the case with wrong side, aligning labels. Stretching the elastic and gathering the cover in folds, stitch the elastic in a zigzag pattern.

Finishing. Place the outer cover over the lining already placed on the lampshade. Tie a ribbon around the constriction to cover the line where the covers join, and secure with a few stitches. Decorate the lampshade with a bow, rosette or flower.

Lampshade - "coolie"
For a conical lampshade, you can also sew a cover. Here are instructions for sewing a cover for a lampshade from transparent fabric in the flower mentioned above. Such a cover is simply glued to a small white conical lampshade. If you do not have an old lamp that can be refurbished, pick up an inexpensive lampshade that matches the color in the store. You will need: Tapered lampshade. Centimeter, ruler, pencil, scissors. Newspaper. Threads. Tape 35 mm wide for tying the top and for the bow. Glue universal.

Measurements. Measure the bottom edge of the lampshade (A), add 4 cm for the seam. Measure side (B), add 6 mm. Draw a 2AxB rectangle on paper, taking into account the seam allowances and calculate the fabric consumption.

Open. Cut out a rectangle of fabric according to the pattern along the share. Sew short sections with a French seam.

Hem. Fold one end in 3mm and topstitch. Tuck the edge 3mm again and stitch again.

Trimming the top edge. Fold the cover in four, mark the folds with pins. Sew along the top edge twice, starting and ending at the pins. Mark four equal sections on the top edge of the lampshade with a pencil. Put the cover on the lampshade and, matching the marks, adjust it to fit the size. Spread the gathers evenly, fasten the threads and remove the cover.

Top binding. Cut the ribbon so that it covers the top edge, add 1.5 cm to sew the ends with an overlap. Fold the tape over the gathered edge, tuck one edge, attach the tape. Sew the tape to the edge, grabbing both sides and gathers into the seam.

Finishing. Put the cover on the lampshade, glue with universal glue in several places. Tie the remaining ribbon in a bow at the glued area to hide it.

Advice. Tulle lampshade. To cover from thin and soft tissue better kept on the lampshade, it can be strengthened with a stiff tulle lining. Measure the distance from the edge of the lampshade on one side to the edge on the opposite side through the top. Cut a circle of this diameter from tulle. Drape it symmetrically on the lampshade and cut out a circle to cover the top. Sew the cover as above, but baste the lining before you tape the top edge.

The color of the lampshade under a transparent cover with a small frill at the top harmonizes perfectly with the decor of the room. Sew a cover, as for a conical lampshade. Close the gathering seam with a ribbon with a bow or a garland of roses.

Types of lampshades
Making a lampshade with your own hands is not difficult at all - this is good way save.

Table lamps and pendant lights play a prominent role in the interior. These are not just light sources in the house, but also important decor elements. You can reduce spending on decor and choose the perfect lamp if you make a lampshade with my own hands.

What you need to make a lampshade
Kits for most of our models are commercially available. But if you don't have a lampshade unusual shape, you can find in the thrift store the original old model which you customize to your liking.

Frames. The frame consists of upper and lower rings connected by uprights and a lampshade base. The rings and the shape of the uprights determine the type of lampshade. For example, in a lampshade in the form of a cylinder, the diameters of the upper and lower rings are the same. Rings are connected straight uprights. The elegant "concave empire" lampshade has an upper ring smaller than the lower one and the pillars are gently curved inward.

Materials. To make and fit the frame, you will need: Durable cotton paper tape dense weave, which is wrapped around the frame so that the lampshade can be sewn on. Self-adhesive paper tape if the lampshade will not be sewn on. Enamel for painting a metal frame.

Textile. When choosing fabric for a lampshade, follow the rules: Look through the fabric at the lamp and check how it transmits light. For a lampshade without lining, you need dense fabric, which will hide the outlines of the lamp and pillars. If the contours are visible through the lampshade, make a lining. The fabric sets off the light of the lamp. For example, blue and green lampshades give cold light, red and yellow - a warm reflection.

Fittings. Attachments for lamp fittings are attached to each frame. Usually lampshade table lamp fastened to its rack by a ring-suspension with spacers or to special frame, which rests directly on the armature, small "candle" lamps have clips that hold the lampshade. Lampshades hanging lamps hung on a rebar.

Parchment paper for a smooth lampshade. Self-adhesive PVC sheet is a rigid polyvinyl chloride sheet to which fabric or other material can be glued. decorative trim, which is glued or sewn to mask the joints and trim the lampshade.

A dark heavy fabric lampshade lets in light from above and below and creates a directed stream of light.

A thick fabric is not suitable for a pleated lampshade. On the expanding lampshade, the pattern is more distinct at the bottom. Check how the folded piece of fabric looks.

For a curly lampshade, soft, easily draped fabrics are needed. The pattern of the fabric should fit nicely diagonally.

Frame manufacturing
Before covering the lampshade frame with fabric, it must be prepared depending on the type of frame and the fitting material. For example, if you are making a cardboard cap on a frame with plastic coated, no preparatory operations are required. The metal frame should first be painted with white enamel so that it does not rust. The old frame needs to be cleaned sandpaper. If you will sew the lampshade to the frame, then you must first paint the frame and wrap it with tape, after which you can sew on the cover.

Frame painting. If metal carcass not covered with PVC, it should be painted. Remove rust marks with sandpaper. Sand the frame so that bumps and protrusions do not damage the fabric. Paint the uprights and rings with white enamel, but don't touch the center ring.

Frame wrapping. If the frame is covered only with fabric, then you need to wrap it with cotton tape. Do not wrap suspension and fittings ceiling lamp. To calculate the amount of webbing, measure the length of each post and the circumference of each ring and multiply by 3. This will be the total length of the webbing. If a white ribbon shows through the dark fabric, paint the ribbon to match the color of the lampshade.

Rack wrap. Cut strips of tape 3 times the length of the stand. Start work from the top end of the rack. Wrap the end of the ribbon around the ring, then around the post to secure the end. With light tension on the tape, wrap the upright in a spiral from top to bottom so that each turn covers and holds the previous one. The finished winding must not move.

Winding fastening. When you reach the bottom of the rack, wrap the braid around the ring, thread the end into the last turn to make a knot. Tighten the braid tightly and leave a free end. Wrap all the racks in this way, except for one.

Wrapping the top ring. Measure the circumference of the top and bottom rings and the height of the last unwrapped post. Cut the string to the given length. Roll up the tape and secure with a rubber ring, leaving a free end of 20 cm. Hold the end of the tape in front of the top ring at the unwrapped rack. Pass the ribbon over the ring over the free end, secure the end.

Completion of work. Wrap the top ring, wrap the braid around each rack with a “figure of eight”. Having reached the unwrapped rack, secure it with a “figure of eight” and wrap it from top to bottom. Make a figure eight at the bottom and wrap the bottom ring. On each rack, cut the ends of the braid to 1 cm and hide them under the wound “eight” braid. When finished winding, cut all ends of the braid to 6 mm, tuck and sew by hand.

How to choose a base stand
The lampshade and the stand-base of the lamp must form a single whole. There are a few principles to keep in mind when choosing a base stand and lampshade. The lampshade should completely cover the fittings, but not the lamp stand-base. The bottom diameter of the lampshade should be twice as wide as the widest point of the base stand. The height of the lampshade should be 1-2 times the height of a round or vase-shaped base stand. The height of the lampshade for the stand-base and candle should be 1/3 of the height of the stand.

In the interior of each apartment, even the smallest and most insignificant element plays an important role. Just one wrong detail and the interior is ruined. That is why the choice must be approached carefully and very responsibly. Let's talk in this article about such interior decoration as lamps. It is not enough to hang only a light bulb, you also need to somehow decorate it. This can be done with a lampshade. Shop variations of lampshades can not always please and rarely among them you can choose the model that harmoniously blends into our interior. We don't always choose new lamp With beautiful design, sometimes the old one no longer attracts us, has gone out of fashion or absolutely does not fit into new interior. All these factors lead us to create DIY lampshade (photo).

It would seem that making a lampshade on your own is a rather complicated procedure, but in fact everything is very simple. Allocate a little free time, and we will show you several options for creating a beautiful lampshade. Do DIY lamp shade can be from any materials that you meet at hand. It can be any fabric you like, and ribbons, and beads, and many other materials that, in your opinion, are suitable for decorating the original lampshade.

Do-it-yourself lampshade for a floor lamp everyone can do. The main thing is not to set yourself too serious tasks. If you have never come across homemade products and have a hard time imagining how to cope with the task, then it is better not to take risks, but to choose for yourself a simpler lampshade design option.

Beautifully selected material, color and shape for the future lampshade will allow you to create a truly spectacular element of the interior. A neat and original floor lamp or other lamp can perfectly complement the design of a hall or other space.

It is not always convenient to make a lampshade from scratch, it is much easier to transform an existing one. In particular, such a solution is much easier for those who for the first time decided to make an apartment decor with their own hands and add a fresh touch. To create a new design for central lighting or a floor lamp, you need to take an existing lampshade or purchase the simplest inexpensive option in a store. Each of the proposed options is good in its own way. In the first case, the former lampshade is not always in perfect condition, which, accordingly, can add problems in its design. In the second case, you will receive new material to manifest your imagination, but at the same time you will incur small losses.

But in any case, making a new one from a finished lampshade will not be as difficult as making out a new one. What can be done from an old floor lamp? Having cut out, for example, details from cardboard or plywood, they can be attached to an existing lampshade, painted in one color or covered with fabric. We will receive a lampshade with new shapes. This solution is often used for when parents strive to create a fabulous design. Just imagine how great a boy's room will look, decorated in a space style with elements of unearthly planets, and a lamp made in the form of a cosmic creature or a small satellite. But to make such a lampshade for a lamp in the above way is not difficult. Imagine a little, involve your child in the process, who always has a lot of brilliant ideas that you wouldn't even think about. A little time and effort and you will succeed original solution for the central lighting of the children's room. All the guests who come to visit you will be delighted with the solution they see.

If you have a plain lampshade, there will be no problems with its design at all. Monochromatic colors are an ideal material for home-made decoration, because here you can embody any wishes and ideas. For example, get original lampshade You can use appliqués, embroideries, and even ordinary stickers that can be found in many stores.

DIY lampshade - master class

We offer you an interesting DIY lampshade (master class), in which we will tell you how to get a work of art from an ordinary light lampshade. During the day, our floor lamp will be an ordinary element of the interior, and at night it will turn into a wonderful decoration.

Our master class will be devoted to creating a lampshade in the form of a night city. To do this, we need directly the lampshade itself in light colors, yellow, orange or light pink shades are desirable. They will most of all resemble night lighting when the lamp is on. We take a black fabric and cut out our night city layout from it. It can be trees, and buildings, and even cars. Using PVA glue or any other, we glue our applications on the inside of our lampshade so that wrinkles do not form. You can sew a black ribbon on the bottom. Please note that it is better to stitch with a white thread or a thin ribbon. This will create the effect of a city road.

In daylight, our application will not be visible. And when the light is on, we will see landscapes of the night city with houses and trees bathed in moonlight.

Choosing a colored floor lamp with bright ornaments and patterns for decoration, it is enough to slightly decorate it by adding pendants with beads of bright colors. It is possible to decorate with thin satin ribbons to create a brighter effect. Such a lamp will fit perfectly into. Thanks to such a small additional interior, she can feel like a real princess living in a fabulous room with a cute interior.

How to make a lampshade with your own hands from scratch?

If you are interested in a question, how to make a lampshade with your own hands from scratch? Then you can just buy a few plastic folders and wire. Cut out the necessary parts for the frame from the folders, and connect them together with a wire. This solution will allow you to create a completely new, original and unique lampshade.

Before proceeding with any design of the lampshade, you need to take into account all the colors that are found in the room for which it will be intended. As you understand, the lamp should harmoniously fit into the interior of the room, match the texture and color scheme of the space. Also, follow the safety precautions. That is, if you have a baby who is still too small and strives to grab everything that comes his way, then try to design a more discreet version of a floor lamp or lamp that the baby will not reach out for. The fact is that more than once we have encountered situations when children pulled the pendants on floor lamps and overturned it on themselves, while receiving various injuries. Let's not talk about the bad. Just try to take into account all factors besides beauty.

What materials are used to create a lampshade most often? The most common option is textiles. It is good not only for its flexibility and ease of use. Its popularity is also deserved thanks to the chic variation of colors, which allows you to decorate absolutely any floor lamp that is perfect for any interior, be it minimalism or Ethno style. Among all the variety of fabrics, it is best to choose thick cotton or felt, which will quickly gain its popularity among needlewomen. Felt is an excellent material for creating a lampshade. It allows you to create a variety of multilayer compositions, for example, DIY lampshade with butterflies.

If you do not want to tidy up an old lampshade for central lighting, we offer you a very interesting option doing it from scratch. This option does not take much effort and time, it is good for any interior, especially for.

To create a new lampshade for a ceiling lamp, we need a ball, glue and thick threads. Performed do-it-yourself lampshade from threads very simple. We inflate the ball. We dip the threads in glue and wrap the ball in random order. Just don't overdo it. The threads should not be too much, there should be enough space between them to let the light through. In addition, it is worth leaving a small space without threads on one side, this will be the bottom of our lamp, through which light will flow. The creation process is almost ready, just wait a bit until the glue dries, after which you can blow off the ball.

Our threads will remain in the form and form in which they were at the time of drying. If desired, our lampshade can be painted with paints in order to give it brightness and originality, while combining several colors. Now we just have to hang our lamp on the lamp. As you can see, there is nothing complicated about this. But the interior will get a new touch of originality.

To decorate an old lampshade, you can use satin ribbons and even shreds of fabric. They can be sewn along the diameter of the canvas, thereby creating horizontal stripes. For example, you can make a combination of several colors. For example, let our lamp be light Pink colour, and we will insert the stripes in burgundy tones with bright small flowers. A combination of turquoise with brown. Such a lampshade is suitable for interior decoration of the hallway, and one of the rooms. A cute floor lamp can be placed in the nursery, and a brighter solution can be left for viewing by guests in the living room.

IN Lately people strive to create new and original elements for decorating the interior with their own hands. Therefore, in their works they use absolutely unpredictable elements, among which are kitchen utensils, artificial leaves, bamboo and other equally interesting materials. Lampshades look unusual, the frame for which is made of transparent plastic, and from the inside pasted over with old slides, photographs or decorative pebbles.

As you have noticed, making a new floor lamp or chandelier is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Everything is quite simple if fantasy works and there are many brilliant ideas. You can make an original element of the interior from any improvised means, applying a little new look to their design. Imagine, experiment and you will be able to create bright interior, full of unusual and unique details of the overall composition.

DIY table lamp - one of the most available ways decorate the interior and give it individuality. As soon as the designers of pros and amateurs do not scoff at them! The reason is simple: in relation to the functionality and possibilities of creative self-expression to the required costs of materials, labor and skill, the table lamp is firmly in the top of the leaders among household items. In this article, we will see what you can do with it without straining either your hands or your wallet. Just an invention.

What to do?

Rack table lamps (item 1 in the next figure) illuminate the work area that does not require the quick movement of the light spot on the table surface: a dressing table, desk. Possibilities decorative design in this case the largest. Technically, the design of a table lamp on a stand is the simplest. Opportunities for operational adjustment of the size of the illuminated area are practically absent. Light control working area possible if there is a thyristor voltage regulator in the lamp, but the spectrum of the emitted light changes significantly.

The great advantage of rack-mounted table lamps is the ability to obtain relatively simple means t. cosecant-square radiation pattern (RP) of the illuminator, see also at the end. The cosecant-square DN provides, within a certain angle φ, an almost uniform illumination of the working area (see the figure on the right), which drastically reduces fatigue from intense intellectual work.

Lamps on a breakable swivel arm (pos. 2) are more suitable for technical creativity. Lamps on a pantograph bracket at home are impractical and technologically complex, and making a lamp on a flexible bracket at home will cost more than buying a ready-made one.

The design of a table lamp on a breaking arm is limited to laconic and utilitarian forms. The design is more complicated than that of a lamp on a stand, primarily due to the requirement to ensure electrical safety, see below. Opportunities for operational adjustment of light in the working area are wide both in terms of the size of the illuminated area and in terms of its illumination with a constant spectrum.

Console table lamps (pos. 3) are less common in everyday life, because. for stability, they require a heavy base and, most often, a counterweight, which complicates and increases the cost of the design. Cantilever lamps have fewer opportunities for quick adjustment of light in the working area than lamps on brackets, however, it is possible to obtain a cosecant-square DN.

Table lamps without an elevation of the light source above the supporting surface are no longer table lamps, but nightlights (pos. 4). The fundamental difference between the two is that the night light does not have a working area with certain requirements for light. Accordingly, the light from the night lamp can be anything, as long as it does not harm health.

Design

In a table lamp of any type, a trace can be distinguished. design elements:

  • Electromechanical - ensures the stability of the lamp and a safe supply of power to the lamp holder.
  • Reference - supports the illuminator or reflector and, possibly, allows you to change its position.
  • Illuminator - an electric light bulb in a lampshade or reflector.

Electromechanics in the design of a table lamp plays a role only insofar as it can be hidden in the support of the illuminator. Design delights fall on the support and the illuminator. In rack lamps, as a rule, the lampshade carries the main aesthetic load, and the rack complements it; in articulated - on the contrary. But there are plenty of exceptions to this rule.

Electromechanics

The wiring diagram of a table lamp is simple: a mains plug, a cable, a switch, a light bulb holder. Sometimes a voltage regulator is added. The pendant lamp holder E27 (under the lamp base of a regular width, item 1 in the figure) can only be mounted on a threaded shank M10 or M12. The cartridge for the narrow E14 minion base is also mounted on a thread or on a lamella in the form of a steel strip; the nest under it is shown by a green arrow in pos. 2. For a table lamp, chandelier cartridges (item 3) with captive threaded flanges are best suited: between them you can clamp a steel faceplate with a lampshade frame or a clamp for hinge mounting. Drawings of the E27 chandelier electric cartridge of various modifications are given in pos. 4.

It is necessary to make a table lamp in such a way as to ensure its electrical safety. This is especially true for lamps on hinges and consoles. Achieving the safety of a table lamp is quite simple:

  1. The cable must be taken round in double insulation.
  2. The conductors of the cable are flexible, made of many wires. The cross section lived from 0.35 sq. mm.
  3. Places where the cable passes through conductive or damp parts of the structure must be protected by sufficiently strong flexible dielectric bushings, cuffs or elbows.
  4. The cable inside the lamp structure must not be taut.

The diagram of the mechanical part of the support with a load of a homemade rack table lamp is shown in the figure:

The cable from the inside before entering (highlighted in color) is tied in a knot or pulled through the holes of the dielectric fixing washer so that by pulling it from the outside, the cable cannot be torn inside. Decorative finish made of polymer clay (plastic, cold porcelain) on a block of cut plastic bottle- the best option at home, but, of course, only one of many. If you want, for example, to carve a decorative shell of a wooden rack - please, if only the mechanics of the village fit properly. However polymer clay as a material for a table lamp stand allows you to realize the most original ideas its decor and fully meets the safety requirements: dried polymer clay is a mechanically strong non-wet non-combustible dielectric.

original supports

It is not necessary to fence the support of a rack-mounted table lamp, which is quite complex and requires turning, if its lampshade is light, for example. from threads (see below) or thin hard plastic, and it is not supposed to place a light regulator and other electronics in the support. In this case, a sufficiently stable lamp support is obtained from a “pot-bellied” glass bottle with a wide bottom, pos. 1 in fig. A narrow bottle can be made heavier by throwing pebbles (pos. 2), steel balls, etc. into it. The lampshade holder is fixed to the neck with a standard screw plug or a piece of solid EPS foam, ground into the throat thread.

The hole for the cable in the bottle is drilled with a tubular thin-walled diamond drill. But glass is not at all like a tile, so you need to drill it in this way:

  • The bottle is placed on its side and securely fastened.
  • A plasticine board 2-3 cm high is molded around the future hole.
  • Water is poured into the resulting hole.
  • They drill under a layer of water at least at 2500 rpm with the gentlest and smoothest feed.

How a table lamp is made from a Jack Daniels whiskey bottle, see the video below:

Video: DIY bottle table lamp

Such a lamp will organically fit into, steampunk and other technogenic-utilitarian. Just don't make the mistake of trying to make her lampshade out of flower pot or any other utensils. Technogenic-utilitarian styles are not a senseless heap of rubbish, their concepts are clearly thought out. Interior elements for them should be related to industrial, not agricultural or food production. A lampshade, for example, is needed from a tin reflector from an old production hanging lamp on a pantograph, a car headlight, a small spotlight, etc.

On fig. on the right is shown very original version supports of a “real big” table lamp made of… rope! It is done in this way:

  1. The rope is taken from a natural organic layer 6 + 1, i.e. 1 strand along the axis and 6 along the circumference;
  2. A piece of rope is stretched by hand and loosened, turning at the same time in different directions against the direction of the twist of the strands;
  3. The axial strand is carefully pulled out and a thin-walled copper tube with a fishing line threaded into it for tightening the cable;
  4. The rope with the tube inside is pulled together by turning the hands in the direction of the twist of the strands;
  5. The ends of the rope are firmly fixed on the tube with a winding cord;
  6. Pull the cable into the tube;
  7. The workpiece is bent and knitted in a knot. You need to bend a little, carefully so that the tube does not break;
  8. The rope is tightened again, picking up the upturned strands, and impregnated acrylic varnish.

Note: the tube must be taken for air conditioning systems, from oxygen-free copper. The red-copper gas or electrical tube in the assembly will most likely break.

Hinge Features

The mechanical part of a table lamp on a hinged arm is more complicated. The lamp shown on the left in the figure does not meet the electrical and fire safety: the cable is caught in combustible parts and may be pulled when handling the illuminator. Its loop hanging down can be hooked in the semi-darkness with a hand or a sharp object.

The cable to the light bulb holder in a table lamp on a hinged bracket should be run along dielectric fireproof knees either between the sides of its links, or, if the hinge link is solid, along its top, in the center and on the right in Fig. In this case, the cable on the hinge link must be fixed. If the hinge links are tubular, the cable is laid inside them. In any case, Ω-shaped cable loops with a diameter of 60 mm or more, but not less than 12 cable diameters, are made above the kinks of the hinge links. At the transition of the cable from the bracket to the illuminator, an Ω-loop is made from 90 mm, but not less than 20 cable diameters.

The balance of a table lamp on a hinge varies over a wide range and it is quite difficult to ensure its stability with a weight. Because of this, manufacturers sometimes invent such systems that it is easier to shine with a flashlight than to adjust the light from such a miracle, see fig. left. Therefore, table lamps on hinges are often provided with screw terminals.

As a screw clamp for fastening a homemade table lamp to a tabletop, a small carpenter's clamp is excellent, see fig. on right. Better lamp clip out furniture store: costs less, holds more reliably. The grip of the clamp is wider, and the lamp can be attached to the countertop of any conceivable and unthinkable thickness. You need to ask exactly the carpentry, because. jaws of locksmith clamps without soft coating.

The clamp is turned into a lamp holder using a socket made of a steel tube with an inside diameter of 10 mm and a length of 120-150 mm. In the handset approx. at half the length, a longitudinal cut is made as wide as the thickness of the clamp clip. The nest is attached to the clamp with through bolts. A steel pin with an eyelet is inserted into the socket tightly, but not tightly, which is a fixed link in the lower hinge of the lamp bracket. Hooks for hanging chandeliers with an end bent into a ring fit well here; the thread does not prevent them from turning smoothly in the socket.

When adapting the clamp to the lamp holder, it must be remembered that its holder is made of heavily carburized steel; so it is necessary that the jaws of the clamp do not succumb under the counterpressure of the compressible parts. High-carbon steel is very hard and rather brittle, so you need to drill it with a carbide drill at 800-900 rpm with a not strong smooth feed. It is impossible to beat with hard objects and try to bend the clamp clip!

Illuminator

This table lamp assembly should give right light to the work area and is often the main decorative element. First of all, it should be noted here that compact, lightweight and economical LED illuminators (see Fig.) Shine well only in 3D models. In reality, however, their light still does not satisfy the medical and sanitary requirements for local working lighting.

reflectors

Hinged table lamp illuminators are made reflex, the lampshade is too bulky and heavy for them. The reflector must be selected parabolic, it gives a fairly concentrated and even light. You can make a single conical reflector yourself, but the light from it is uneven, tiring your eyes, and a lot of it is “scattered” to the sides in vain. Reflectors of good hinged table lamps are made with a reflective surface of the 4th order of curvature (for example, the Hobby, which has not lost its popularity for more than 20 years), but it is unrealistic to build one on your own.

The way out, if a suitable reflector is not found, is to use a krypton incandescent lamp with an internal reflector, it is also from conscientious manufacturers of the 4th order of curvature. In this case, the manufacture of the illuminator is reduced to installing a shell of any shape around the light bulb from any sufficiently strong and lightweight material that protects the lamp from accidental impacts.

The reflector of the illuminator of a table lamp on a hinged bracket must necessarily have an opening or holes at the top for the exit of heated air. Fluorescent lamps-housekeepers and LEDs seem to heat up weakly, but from being in a heated air cushion their resource is sharply reduced, but they are not cheap.

Shade

Illuminators of rack table lamps are made in the form of a light bulb under. Its purpose is not only to be a fertile field for decor, but also a partially translucent reflector that provides the necessary illumination of the working area of a given value. The lampshade for a table lamp can be made rigid frameless and soft on the frame. The frame of the lampshade is most often made of wire in the form of a truncated straight cone, on the left in the figure, with simple (in the center) and complex (on the right) curvilinear generatrices.

The simplest way to sheathe a straight conical lampshade is with pieces of tape. It is laborious, but good in that the outer surface is smoothly curved, without breaks. The seams on the rims of the lampshade are masked by ruffles (pos. 1 in the next figure), braid, fringe, etc.

It makes no sense to cut the fabric in the form of a truncated cone for covering a conical lampshade, because. as a result of tightening the material, the lampshade will turn out not to be conical, but faceted, pyramidal. It will be easier to sew a lampshade cover from wedges, the patterns of which are built step by step without the use of geometry:

  • A sheet of thin cardboard or thick hard paper is applied to the frame section;
  • Cardboard / paper is wound to the frame with an elastic band or tape;
  • The contour of the pattern is outlined from the inside, this will give a lack of fabric necessary for tightly covering the lampshade with it;
  • The fabric is taken in satin, twill or staple weave;
  • Cut so that the warp threads of the fabric are oriented along the longitudinal axis of the pattern.

The finished lampshade is often decorated with rosettes, bows, etc. For such a case, there is an interesting design technique: the main fabric is taken thin, well-translucent, colorful, and the sockets are sewn in pale pastel colors or very light, poses. 2. In the light, the lamp stands modestly in the interior, but when it is turned on in the dark, everything becomes colored.

How to wrap a lampshade

On the lampshade frame with complex curvilinear ribs (with a "waist"), a sewn cover can simply be thrown over and pulled off with ribbons (pos. 3), thread, elastic band. But according to the rules, covering the lampshade with a cloth is done like this:

And in a different way?

There are other ways to make a table lamp shade, allowing you to embody a variety of original design ideas in the material. For example, a blank mandrel (item 1 in the figure) is glued from ordinary writing paper and impregnated twice with acrylic varnish. After the varnish has dried, lanolin is rubbed into the block several times until it ceases to be absorbed. A blank coated with lanolin is wrapped with a thread stretched through PVA glue, as in the manufacture of Christmas decorations with your own hands. The device for pulling the thread through the PVA is shown in fig. right below. The finished hard cover of the lampshade is fixed with drops of glue on the frame, which in this case can only consist of the lower rim, fastening ties and a faceplate for a chandelier cartridge.

On the same blank, a rigid seamless lampshade is made of thin synthetic fabric. Cut out like a scan of a truncated cone (with an allowance), a cut is wrapped around a blockhead. The fabric is fixed along the edges with paper clips and impregnated with acrylic varnish with a wide strip in the middle. When the varnish dries, the paper clips are removed and the edges are impregnated on the outside. The paper is torn out of the dried lampshade. The lapels are cut inside, a thick fishing line is put into the bends and fixed with drops of glue.

A frame with curved ribs can be braided horizontally with strips of fabric (pos. 3) or a narrow ribbon, newspaper tubes, straws, etc. In terms of lighting technology, ordinary propylene twine is excellent, but its aesthetics are that ... not very good ... Finally, a soft textile cover for the lampshade can be sewn with a simple straight sleeve along the diameter of the lower rim, and trimmed on top, pos. 4.

Quite original

The following 3 versions of the table lamp shade are among the outwardly extravagant, but provide very good lighting performance. Which, by the way, cannot be said about many home-made textile lampshades. For example, we buy (stealing is a sin, as Captain Barbosa from Pirates of the Caribbean would say) a milky plastic cover for street lamp. Not too expensive, perfect light transmission with light diffusion, and does not break. And below is a wide opening through which enough light will come out for local working lighting. We decorate the outer surface of the ceiling with decoupage on a transparent basis or paint it by hand. What happens as a result - see in fig. But this, of course, is an option for an amateur who is resistant to psychedelic influences.

A plywood or glued board lampshade (see the following figure) has good light transmission due to internal reflections and greatly softens the light. In a table lamp with it, you can even put an LED light bulb with a frosted bulb. Rims - hoops for embroidery of different diameters. In the same way, you can make a table lamp integrated with a lampshade (on the right in the figure). It will take up a lot of space on the table, but it looks original, “environmentally”, and the light gives a very soft, not tiring.

A table lamp integrated with a lampshade can also be made from the same wonderful material -; in a thin layer it is translucent. The jellyfish lamp (see the figure on the right) is made from it. The manufacturing procedure is as follows:

green lamp

Revisit old photos with Lenin, Stalin, Churchill, Roosevelt, Theodore or Franklin Delano, Mahatma Gandhi. Or, if you like, with Hitler, Mussolini, General Tojiyo, Chiang Kai-shek. And check out their table lamps. True, similar to the one on the left in the figure? Which in the USSR "general population" was not sold? And which gave rise to the popular expression "green lamp"?

"Green" luxury table lamps antique and modern

"Green lamps" are still being produced and sold well. True, judging by the prices (on the right in the figure), they have not become more accessible to ordinary citizens. The secret of the “green lamp” is in a lampshade made of green glass dyed in mass, covered from the inside with a translucent (more precisely, 3/4 transparent) layer. The shape of the lampshade corresponds to a well-defined mathematical law. Within the wide, approx. 3 lampshade diameters, the working area of the “green lamp” DN is almost cosecant-square, and then its illumination very smoothly turns into a greenish twilight. Slightly raised his eyes from the papers - the eyes and mind are resting.

Every housewife wants to make her house extraordinarily beautiful. Some arrange it in some unusual style, for example, provence, country or minimalism. Someone is trying to decorate with decorative elements. Others focus on one element, for example, a lampshade or a ceiling.

Consider the options for how to make a do-it-yourself ceiling lamp for a chandelier. To do this, you will need not some rare, but ordinary improvised means.

Option number 1: paper

The easiest way is to make an original paper lampshade. Such a decor element can have any shape. It will harmoniously fit almost any interior - in the kitchen, in the living room, in the nursery. It is worth remembering that the life of a paper lampshade for a lamp depends on the quality of the paper. It should not be too thin, but at the same time light-transmitting.

The easiest way is to consider how to make a lampshade with your own hands from the wallpaper left over from the repair. Consider how to make a product in the form of an accordion. The workflow does not take much time and does not require any special skills, abilities or schemes. From the wallpaper you can make a lampshade for a floor lamp with your own hands, for a table lamp or sconce:

  1. First you need to prepare the material - a piece of wallpaper 1.5 m long and approximately 30 cm wide.
  2. Mark the ribs with a pencil or pen.
  3. Carefully form an accordion. The width of each rib should not exceed 3 cm.
  4. Using a hole punch, make holes in the accordion.
  5. Pass a decorative cord through the holes and glue the lampshade along the side seam.

Even a child can make such a product on their own.

In the process, instead of wallpaper, you can use rice paper. With it, you can update the old lampshade. Wrapped with such paper, it will look stylish and modern. You can decorate the product with the help of such decorative elements as special stamps, stickers, etc.

Do-it-yourself paper lampshades will decorate any interior in style. The main thing is to choose the right color scheme and form.

Option number 2: rope

A do-it-yourself lampshade made of rope will look original. It can be used to decorate any lamp: sconces, floor lamps and others.

First you need to prepare necessary tools and materials:

  • 20 meters of rope;
  • 1 balloon for the base;
  • PVA glue;
  • white paint (preferably in a spray can);
  • duct tape;
  • gloves (ordinary household or medical);
  • weaving device (special board or perfume box).

It is quite easy to make such a lampshade with your own hands:

  1. Using a weaving board, make a decorative ribbon out of the rope. Its lines can be smooth or curved - as your fantasy tells you.
  2. Now you need to glue the balloon filled with air with tape.
  3. Taking the top of the ball as a reference point, lay the rope in smooth turns. At the same time lubricate it with glue.
  4. Remove the cover from the lamp. Color it in White color. Put on a finished lampshade from above.
  5. Paste the ball completely and grease with glue again.
  6. Poke the ball with a needle and pull it out. After that, a form woven from a rope will remain.

A do-it-yourself twine, twine or rope lampshade is suitable for a table lamp, sconce or floor lamp. Under it, it is recommended to use an LED lamp, which will not heat up such a ceiling very much.

Option number 3: threads

Another option is a do-it-yourself lampshade made of threads. Self-made chandeliers from threads look very original. They attract attention and fit perfectly into any interior.

You will need:

  • balloon;
  • cotton threads of one or more colors;
  • 250 ml of PVA glue;
  • suspension cord;
  • Powersave lamp;
  • scissors;
  • large needle;
  • oilcloth or plastic the size of an A3 sheet;
  • petrolatum;
  • tassel;
  • cotton pad and stick.

The process of making a lampshade for a table lamp, sconce, chandelier or floor lamp from threads with your own hands consists of several stages:

  1. Blow up the ball. It is desirable that its size be from 25 cm.
  2. Lubricate its surface with Vaseline.
  3. Cover the work surface with paper or oilcloth.
  4. Closer to the bottom of the tube with glue, pierce a hole.
  5. Wrap the ball with threads in any order.
  6. Lubricate the threads with glue. Leave to dry completely overnight.
  7. Using a cotton swab, separate the balloon, deflate and pull it out.
  8. In the upper part of the finished product, make a hole for the lamp and cartridge.
  9. Insert the lamp inside. Fix the holder for the cartridge in the hole.

Now just hang the finished lampshade in the place intended for it.

Option number 4: lace

You can try to make a lampshade out of lace with your own hands. From this material you can make a lampshade for an old table lamp with your own hands, for a wall lamp or a floor lamp.

Work begins with the preparation of the things necessary for work. This is actually lace, PVA glue with a brush, a balloon and electrical elements for a lamp.

Stages of work:

  1. The first stage is the preparation of lace. It is necessary to cut several circles of different sizes.
  2. Blow up the ball. Lubricate its surface with glue.
  3. Attach lace circles to the ball. It needs to be done with a twist.
  4. Leave the product until completely dry. This will take about a day.
  5. Pop the balloon and pull it out.
  6. Fasten the socket, lamp and wires. It is recommended to use low power lamps that will not heat up the lace.

Option number 5: macrame

Fans of original decorative elements will undoubtedly pay attention to the macramé lampshade.

To make macrame lampshades with your own hands, you need to prepare:

  • 172 m of 3 mm thick cord;
  • metal tubes and rings for the frame;
  • 8 rings with a diameter of 7.5 cm;
  • 1 ring with a diameter of 17 cm;
  • 1 ring with a diameter of 36 cm.

How to make a frame for a lampshade with your own hands? We connect together two rings (17 and 36 cm in diameter) and 8 metal tubes 27 cm long.

The workflow for making the plafond itself looks something like this:

  1. It is necessary to cut 40 threads of 3.5 m each from the cord. Attach them to the top ring.
  2. Using patterns for macrame, weave an openwork mesh.
  3. Insert 8 rings along the bottom edge, braiding them with a thread.
  4. Also braid all the vertical tubes of the frame.
  5. Decorate the bottom edge with decorative elements.

Before you make lampshades with your own hands, you can watch master classes. They will help you master the basic elements of macrame weaving and avoid mistakes in the workflow.

Option number 6: fabric

A fabric lampshade will also look great. With the help of fabric, you can update or restore an old product. It is enough just to cover it with prepared material and decorate it with any suitable decor elements. A fabric lampshade based on cardboard is suitable for a table lamp, wall lamp, infrared lamp, night light and even a chandelier.

To make the product neat, it is necessary, before being fitted, sheathed on sewing machine. In addition to it, you need to prepare:

  • iron;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • textile;
  • pins;
  • matching color threads;
  • thick paper (thin cardboard or whatman paper);
  • universal glue.

The workflow consists of several steps:

  1. Make a pattern out of paper desired shape. It is important that it fits the frame.
  2. Connect the template to the fabric using pins. Circle it with a pencil. Draw another line 2 cm from the template line.
  3. Wrap the allowances inward, gradually detaching the pins. Mark the fold line with them.
  4. Remove template.
  5. Sew the fabric on the machine.
  6. Iron the fabric well.
  7. In a well-ventilated area, lay out the workpiece and grease it with glue. Let dry a little.
  8. Glue the fabric to the frame. All seams and cuts must be hidden.
  9. Let the lampshade dry. You can use it after a day.

A fabric lampshade, decorated, for example, with flowers, buttons, bows, will look good. Instead of regular fabric, you can use organza.

Option number 7: tree

Separately, it is worth mentioning the lampshade in the steam room, sauna or in the bath with your own hands, because here high humidity, and the adhesive may no longer hold the shape of the product. For making with your own hands from improvised materials, wooden materials are most popular.

To make a wooden lampshade for a steam room with your own hands, you need to take:

  • paper;
  • pencil;
  • wood;
  • sandpaper for grinding;
  • self-tapping screws.

With this set of tools and materials, you can make a corner lampshade:

  1. On paper, draw a template for the bottom of the frame. It should be in the shape of a trapezoid. It is important that its sides fit the walls of the bath.
  2. Using a pencil, transfer the drawing to the prepared wood. Cut out.
  3. Sand with sandpaper.
  4. Cut out 3 strips with a width of 1 cm and a thickness of 0.5 cm. The height should be equal to the height of the lamp.
  5. These strips will connect the top and bottom of the frame. They need to be nailed on the sides and in the center.
  6. After measuring the distance from the center to the edges, cut a few more strips of the same size.
  7. Fasten the planks with self-tapping screws inside lamp. You can fix them in any position.

As you can see, there are many options for making lampshades with your own hands. In addition to those listed, there are also products made of wire, knitted, lampshade made of beads and many others. In the process of work, almost any material that is at hand is used. If necessary, you can make a new product, or you can update the old one (do restoration). Almost always, a scheme or template is required to work. It is important that the workpiece exactly matches them. Only in this case ready product will become a real decoration of the house or apartment.
