How to make a hammock from wood with your own hands. DIY wooden hammock stand. We make and secure the hammock on the stand

With the arrival of warm spring days, summer residents try to spend as much time as possible on their plots. But after grueling physical work, it wouldn’t hurt to rest. Unfortunately, not everyone has a fully equipped house in addition to a garden. Therefore, many people would like to use a hammock as a place to relax (photo 1). But then you have to decide how and where to hang it, choosing appropriate place. But there is another solution to this problem - you can make a stand for it and install it where it is most convenient.

Brief history

It turns out that the historical homeland of the hammock is America, and the direct inventors of the unusual bed are its indigenous inhabitants - the Indians. The reason for hanging places for rest and sleep was not the desire to soak up the light breeze of a fresh breeze, but the desire to protect yourself from snake bites and insects crawling on the ground. In addition, the climate made it quite possible not to think about significant temperature fluctuations within a day. Special credit also goes to the sailors who brought this invention to Europe. But in those days, only trees and other suitable vertical places were used as support and fasteners. More recently, people have realized that it is very convenient to have a hammock stand. Then the “bed” can be used as outdoors, and indoors. Let's look at what types of stands there are and what the principle of their manufacture is. Using one of the models as an example, we will analyze the step-by-step procedure of work.

How to choose a hammock stand? Description of the most common types

All structures are classified primarily by external configuration:

Hanging;

Having a monolithic frame;

Mounted on a prefabricated stand.

The latter are the most convenient to use, as they take up minimal space and, if necessary, can be quickly assembled and installed. The materials used to make most stands are metal or wooden blocks. Designs and shapes vary. Among non-removable frames, those curved in the form of an arc are considered the most stable (photo 2). In addition to being practical, such models also have a very attractive appearance. Stands for “sitting” hammocks are slightly different in design.

How to make a hammock stand (photo 3)? Main stages of work

It’s quite easy to make a structure for securing a mesh bed at home. Let's look in general terms at what a simple hammock stand should look like. The dimensions given in this example are standard and can be changed depending on design features“lying” zone - length, depth, width of the canvas. All readings in the table are given in centimeters.

Features of the technology for connecting some parts

When making a hammock stand with your own hands, you should pay attention Special attention reliability of connection of all parts. If work is performed poorly, there is a danger at any moment, especially when swinging, of compromising the integrity of the structure, which can lead to injuries from falling of something in the mesh. hanging bed person. Therefore, please note (using the example of photo 4) that when the diagonal guides are lengthened and, accordingly, the entire structure is raised, the load on the fasteners increases significantly. For greater reliability, use oblique slats, which are additionally attached to the top, connecting the base of the stand and the side part. You can also make two or three instead of one screw through hole, distributing them in several places on the lower support.

Choosing equipment for babies

When purchasing a children's hammock stand or making it yourself, you need to take into account the presence of several mandatory properties of the product:

Stands with a double base are considered the most reliable. So, for example, the product described above can be made slightly different - the diagonal guides can be supplemented with another part (which will make the “sidewalls” in the form of a triangle), and the load-bearing horizontal part can be supplemented with a parallel one.

Assembly reliability. It is most advisable to opt for complete structures, that is, assembled only once after purchase, and not constantly.

Practicality of the product. Many models, especially for the smallest ones, may additionally have a number of accessories - a protective mosquito net, a sun awning, a swing limiter, etc. Of course, such stands will have a higher cost. Therefore, when purchasing a product, check the general functionality.

As you can see, such a simple product as a hammock can become not only a useful item, but also quite a modern one. designer piece, capable of decorating any interior.

The hammock as an interior item for sleeping and relaxing has been known for a very long time. It was invented by the Indians of South America long before the discovery of the New World. 3. Hammock chair. It is less popular, especially in Russia, due to the complexity of installation, but very practical.
  4. Hammocks-swings. They are a type of frame hammock with one attachment point.

Let's consider making our own hands the most popular option today, namely a wicker frame hammock.

Making the base

The frame for a hammock is best made from natural materials, in particular wooden beam. To make a hammock frame for one adult, you will need standard 50x100 wood beams, bolts, nuts, screws, hinges and a tension cord.

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare drawings. The frame drawings show the bottom, as well as the connecting and support rods for the hammock at an angle of 60 degrees from the ground.

Sequence of work

Blanks: 2 beams for connecting and support rods, 6 inches long and standard section, 2 beams, 4 inches long. A bolt hole should be drilled 1.5 inches from the edge of each timber. So let's get started:

  1. Place the blanks for the bottom of the frame on the cross supports for leveling.
  2. The drawings will help you make and combine drilled holes support rods and studs 1.5 inches from the end of the beam.
  3. Connect the frame blanks with bolts.
  4. Connect and bolt the holes between the flocks and the stop, located closer to the center of the beam.
  5. Check that the angle between the support rods and the ground should not be more than 60 degrees.
  6. At the intersection of the connecting rod and the support rod, make a mark and cut the angle of the rod to fit snugly against the support rod.
  7. Cut out the overlays from the timber. Using self-tapping screws, secure them on both sides of the connecting rod, looking at the drawings as you go.
  8. At the point of attachment to the frame, screws with loops must be screwed in.
  9. To ensure stability of the structure, support cross members should be attached to the lower beams. This can be done with self-tapping screws.

Making woven mesh or woven base

Until recently, a hammock was made only from natural materials. Today, thanks to technological progress, you can easily make a hammock from both natural fabric and synthetic fibers.

It is easier and faster to make a hammock from a single piece of fabric. Suitable fabric is cut into a rectangular shape and attached to the frame. You can see this moment in more detail in the video.

You can also make a mesh hammock, which is more compact and durable. To make it yourself you will need a strong synthetic thread.

For beginners, making such a hammock does not take more than 5-6 hours. Mesh-type hammocks are made using the macrame technique (the hammock looks like openwork fabric) or the knotted version (fishermen's net).

The knot option is simpler and does not require additional knowledge. Knots are simply tied at a certain distance in a checkerboard pattern, the weaving proceeds in rows (see photo). Making a hammock using the macrame technique will require a lot of knowledge and dexterity, as well as time.

A hammock is a great place for a summer holiday. A hammock made by yourself will give you not only a pleasant feeling from relaxing in nature, but also pride in the work done.

Rules for using a hammock

As you can see, there are a great many modifications and varieties of hammocks. However, they all require compliance with certain operating rules that can protect you from various negative situations and make your vacation truly enjoyable.

Consider these rules:

  • First of all, after installing any hammock, you need to check its stability and reliability of the fastenings. Trees or poles on which the entire structure is supported must have a diameter of 20 cm. The poles are dug into the ground approximately 1 m. You should not use a product that sag a lot, as this will only damage the base of the hammock;
  • As for the distances, between the supports of the hammock it ranges from 3 m, and the fastening from the ground is 1 - 1.5 m;
  • The reliability of the fastenings must be checked in advance. The cables that bear the entire load must have a diameter of at least 8 mm.

Advice! To achieve an even greater level of safety, experts recommend using eyelets. There are cases when their use is impossible - it all depends on specific model hammock

  • The base of the hammock should consist of durable, dense fabrics - tarpaulin or camouflage. You should not skimp on fabric, as it can protect you from injury if you fall. The matter needs to be replaced every 2 - 3 years;
  • In order to make a hammock from a mesh with your own hands, it is best to use cotton threads that do not fray, do not slip and are tightened quite tightly.

Decorating a hammock

After the hammock has been purchased and installed or built yourself, you can take care of decorating it. The design itself is considered a good decoration suburban area, however, there is no limit to perfection. Hammocks are often decorated with canopies made of transparent or dense fabrics, which perform not only an aesthetic, but also a practical function - they protect from bright sun rays and wind.

For achievement comfortable conditions the hammock is equipped with additional soft cushions, painted in bright colors. Ribbons will also be an excellent decoration that will make the hammock design elegant, light and airy.

How to make a hammock with your own hands?

Method No. 1

In order to make a hanging hammock with your own hands, it is enough to acquire strong ropes and reliable material suitable color And sewing machine. No special skills are required for this work.

  1. Preparing the base

The dimensions of the base for the hammock are calculated in accordance with the height of the person, and for an allowance on both sides, another 60 cm should be added to these indicators.

The uneven edges of the material are cut off, and on both narrow sides places for mounting the drawstring are marked. To do this, 30 cm incisions are made at a distance of 18 cm from each other.

Materials for a hammock Possible hammock layout Elements of a hammock

  1. Making drawstrings

The drawstrings are located along the edges of the material on its narrower sides. This is where the ropes are pulled. The cuts in 2 layers are folded and stitched with double seams. The ends of the seams are securely fastened.

  1. Making loops and installing rope

Let's look at how you can weave a hammock with your own hands. The rope must be threaded into the ready-made drawstrings, leaving a margin of approximately 180 cm; it is pulled through the cuts for 1 m. To make a hammock, you will need about 40 m of rope.

Creating loops

The ends of the rope are tied two at a time on one side, and four loops are pulled out in the middle, which must be wrapped in rope and gathered together. It will take about 10 m of rope to make a good winding. Before joining, the loops are straightened and tied at the top of the bend. As for the transverse winding, it should be carried out only after all the longitudinal loops have been laid and the rope has been secured. Longitudinal loops are made from thinner rope, the length of which will be slightly less than half a meter.

A longitudinal loop is necessary to securely fix the ends of the winding. The remaining winding threads at the end of the work are crossed with each other and pressed tightly. Next, a rope is pulled through the securing loop, and then the longitudinal part is wound. When work with the load-bearing loop is completed, you should connect the two remaining ends of the rope and wrap them together. After creating two turns, tie the remaining ends of the rope tightly.

  1. Installation

As mentioned earlier, the most in a simple way Installing a hanging hammock involves attaching it to two nearby trees. The main condition is that the fastening must be strong and reliable. In addition, poles dug into the ground provide excellent support, as does a stand for a homemade hammock.

  1. Decor

For a comfortable rest in a hammock, you must use soft comfortable pillows, which you can sew yourself using holofiber, down or padding polyester as a filler. It is better if the pillows are painted in a color contrasting with the color of the hammock itself.

Method number 2

If you are still tormented by the question of how to make a hammock with your own hands, then you can use the second one no less in an accessible way. This will require following materials:

  • Approximately 2.5 m of durable tarpaulin or other material;
  • 20 eyelets, as well as tools for their installation;
  • 35 m of rope with a diameter of 6 mm;
  • A pair of large metal rings;
  • Drill and drill bit 12 mm;
  • A pair of bars from hard rocks wood with a size of 30x50. The length of these products should correspond to the width of the future hammock;
  • Sewing machine.
  1. Preparing the base

After choosing a suitable fabric, you need to measure and cut a piece 2.7 m long. If the structure is located under a canopy, you can not take into account the resistance of the material to getting wet. If the hammock will stand without a roof, then this factor must be taken into account.

The edges of the fabric must be folded and stitched using sewing machine. The fabric is folded up by about 6 cm. For more convenient stitching, the rolled tip is ironed, then re-folded and ironed again.

We fix the spacer on the frame

The length of the bars is measured depending on the width of the hammock. Through holes in the bars must exactly coincide with the location of the eyelets. The thickness of the products must be at least 25 mm, any width can be selected (from 50 to 120 mm). The finished spacers are sanded and coated with a varnish composition.

    Installing a hammock

Initially, the hammock slings are installed; to simplify the process, a special frame is often made, but you can also do without it. To do this, a metal ring is fixed on the hook, and the canvas is laid out on the floor and secured in place with something heavy.

A spacer is mounted on the frame. Each line must pass through a specific grommet, then through a hole made in the spacer and a ring, and then the rope comes back. Once the tying is completed, the ends of the rope are tied. If desired, you can braid the metal ring with the ends of the strings to give the finished product a more attractive look.

Exactly the same manipulations must be carried out with the other end of the hammock. The hammock is hung on any supports suitable for these purposes.

DIY hammock stand

Unfortunately, not in every yard you can find a couple of trees located in a cozy corner, and even at the required distance from each other. The optimal solution to this problem is to create a hammock stand with your own hands.

This design has many advantages:

  • it is light, mobile and compact, it is easy to transport it to any place in the summer cottage;
  • quickly made by hand from available materials, the cost of which is significantly lower than the price of a finished hammock frame;
  • it is durable and attractive in appearance.

Required materials and tools:

  • wooden beams with a section of 80x80;
  • board with a section of 100x30;
  • studs, nuts, washers for fastening;
  • Sander, a circular saw, drill;
  • wood stain or varnish;
  • hooks for securing the fabric.

The lower, supporting part of the rack will consist of two longitudinal beams of 3 m each and two crossbars of 1.5 m each. The side part - 2 fastening beams (beam 2 m long) and 2 stops (beam 1.45 m long).

hammock frame drawing. Photo

The first stage is the manufacture of the jib - the side part of the stand on which the hammock fabric will be attached using hooks. To do this, the beam and the stop are rigidly fastened to each other and cut off at the bottom in such a way that a vertical, but at the same time stable structure is obtained with a camber at the upper points of at least 4 m.

The resulting side parts are installed and secured vertically between two longitudinal beams. Their location should be mirrored relative to each other.

The crossbar consists of 2 pieces of board (1.3 and 1.5 m), which are located one on top of the other to ensure better stability.

On final stage the longitudinal bars are fastened to the crossbars at a distance of 60 cm from each edge.

We sand it, cover it with stain or varnish - and the frame for the hammock with your own hands is ready. All that remains is to secure the canvas.

Choosing a shape and material is the first step

Anyone can handle the manufacturing process. First, you should decide on the materials for fasteners and stock. If the hammock is wicker, then it is better to give preference to natural fabrics. Synthetic material is more difficult to work with and less durable.

There are some requirements for a hammock with a solid fabric. So, for example, when choosing canvas, you need to be prepared for difficulties in sewing.

Having chosen the type of hammock and material, you can begin further work on manufacturing, and very soon ready product will not only please the eye, but also contribute to excellent relaxation.

From the drawing in the photo you can understand how to make a hammock with your own hands:

Step by step towards the goal

Manufacturing process:

  1. Step 1. Blanks. To make the simplest hammock, you will need fabric (two pieces of 1x2 m), wooden blanks (two sticks one meter long), a cord (20 meters long), eyelets, metal rings for fastening holes on the fabric (10 pieces). The cord must be selected so that it can withstand the required weight with a significant margin.
  2. Step 2: Sewing. Two pieces of material are folded facing each other and sewn together. It is necessary to leave a pocket half a meter long through which the fabric will be turned inside out. Subsequently, filler, for example, padding polyester, can be added to the pocket. After this, the narrow edges of the material are folded ten centimeters and stitched. The folded edge of the material should face down when hanging the hammock. After the fabric has been stitched, it is necessary to notice the edge for the eyelets every 10 centimeters.
  3. Step 3. Hinges and wood blanks. Eyelets are inserted into the holes made with a drill on the narrow edge. If they are not available, you can use ordinary metal rings or cord loops. Similar markings are made on the sticks with the same placement of loops on the fabric. Holes are drilled on the sticks so that the doubled cord can enter freely.
  4. Step 4. Fasteners. A 10-meter piece of cord is cut into 10 pieces. Each of the segments is threaded into a stick, then into a loop or grommet and again into the same hole on a piece of wood. After which all the pieces of cord are gathered together and tied in a knot.

Making a hammock step by step

When attaching a hammock, it is necessary to take into account the reliability of the support. If trees are chosen as the basis, then they must have a trunk thickness of at least 0.2 meters.

The distance to the ground is a meter or one and a half. The hammock is attached to metal rings that need to be driven into the support. The fasteners can also be additionally secured with bolts.

The video shows in detail how to make a hammock with your own hands:

Frame hammock - reliability and simplicity

For those who value, above all, convenience and reliability, a hammock with a frame is suitable.

Making a frame for a hammock, which will serve as a support for the bed, is not at all as difficult as it seems. The material for the frame is most often metal, simply because it can withstand more weight.

Slightly less common wooden frames However, here it is necessary to take into account the type of wood, which is related to the ease of work and strength of the material. It is best to use oak or pine.

The simplest frame is two ordinary timber, dug into the ground half a meter. The length of the bars depends on the height at which the hammock hangs and the presence of an additional canopy over the bed.

If the hammock should be stationary, then the process of creating the frame will be as follows:

  1. Step 1. It is necessary to prepare the following materials: two oblong planks at least a meter long (arched or straight with a standard cross-section), a block for fastening the racks, several blanks for the “paws” on which the structure will rest, bolts.
  2. Step 2. The racks are attached to the beam, which acts as a base using bolts. Bolts and nuts must be galvanized or made of stainless steel. The fasteners must be reliable, so you should take extra bolts.
  3. Step 3. The block on which the posts are attached is attached to the legs, after which the hammock is attached. To fasten the hammock, you need to use special hooks or simply fasten a metal ring to the bar. The design is easy to carry and, if necessary, can be quickly disassembled and reassembled.

The video below provides an overview and instructions for making a hammock chair.

In a word, making a hammock with your own hands is not at all difficult and not expensive. With just a little work you can get an irreplaceable place to relax in your country house.

Hammock hammock - discord

Convenience, comfort, reliability and lightness are the undeniable advantages of a properly installed hammock.

It is important to hang or place the hammock in the very beautiful area garden. This could be an area near the pool, the main thing is that there is a picturesque view and as little noise as possible. After all, this is a place for your relaxation. And relaxing while enjoying the beauty of nature is doubly useful!

A good rest is, first of all, an opportunity to feel comfortable, well, at least for some time, not to think about the essentials and little things that distract you everywhere, everywhere and all the time. This means that all these little things must be immediately foreseen and eliminated, even before they manifest themselves. Let’s say you decide to relax at your summer cottage, in a hammock, what could be simpler and more enjoyable!? But no, the distance between the trees is not enough to tie up a hammock, then the sun hits your face or, on the contrary, it is not enough. In general, it’s a small thing, but it’s so boring and annoying that it could easily ruin your day off. That is why we want to offer you one of the options that will become universal - this is a stand, or you can say a stand for a hammock. Its advantages are obvious. It is mobile, quite light, will protect the bark of your trees from damage, in fact, a worthwhile device. It is this option, about making a hammock stand with your own hands, that we will talk about in our article.

There will be 3 options in total, all of them are similar and akin to each other. Which one to choose is up to you. We will only say that all of them do not require significant effort during assembly, are made of affordable materials and are quite practical.

DIY hammock stand option 1

So, the first option will require wooden blocks, studs, nuts, washers, grinder, hacksaw or circular saw, stain, drill, hooks and your skillful hands. Take a look at the drawing, it will be the starting point.

Actually, all the dimensions for the bars can be seen in the drawing. The section of the bar is 80*80. You will also need a board, 100*30.
Now we proceed directly to the manufacture of the rack. We measure, cut, drill, assemble, twist.

The last operations will be sanding, it’s good if you have a machine for this, and painting with stain and varnish.

All that remains now is to pull up the hammock and enjoy relaxing in the lap of nature.

DIY hammock stand option 2

The second option will require approximately the same belongings and materials from you. The same timber, the same studs, except perhaps general design the hammock will be slightly different. Also take a look at the drawing...

All sizes can be taken from it. We also process the parts and fasten them together. Fundamentally, the only difference is a different design, that's all.

This is how the main parts are fastened together...

The finished hammock can also be coated with stain and varnish.

There is a leg on one jib to make it more comfortable to lie down in the hammock.

DIY hammock stand option 3

The third option is nothing more than a special case of the previous two. The main difference is that it uses jibs to prevent the hammock from swinging to the sides, which will make it somewhat more stable. A 50*100 board is used for these jibs. But you can find out all the other sizes of the parts used from the table.

As a result, a hammock stand is assembled from the parts using fasteners (studs, nuts, screws).

To summarize about making a hammock stand with your own hands...

When making hammock stands, the most important thing is to decide which option you will like. In principle, they are all functional and viable, except that they are somewhat different in appearance. Additionally, I would like to say something about stiletto heels. Their use here is completely justified. The thing is that the tree can dry out or squash over time. So, you can always tighten the studs, and thereby restore the rigidity of your hammock stand.
Well, let’s not even mention the fact that such a stand made by yourself will cost you much less than store-bought options, which are also found by the way.
