We reanimate a desk made of plywood. How to make a plywood table with your own hands? Round plywood table

All photos from the article

Without furniture, it is difficult to imagine comfortable living in both residential and suburban buildings and gazebos. Very often there is a need to manufacture structures of a certain size, which you can buy in ready-made problematic. For example, do children's table almost anyone can do it from plywood with their own hands, while you will receive a unique product for very reasonable money, and its reliability will not be inferior to factory-made structures.

Basic rules for working with material

To make your plywood furniture not only beautiful, but also durable, you should remember a few important recommendations for the work process:

Correct sawing It is best to use it for work, it can be used to make high-quality cuts, and they can be either even or curved (in this case, special canvases are used). How smaller tooth on a hacksaw blade, the higher the quality of the cut and the less scuffing and other flaws are formed, this should also not be forgotten
Reliable fastening We recommend using only special self-tapping screws for wood, which provide high reliability of fixation. To avoid cracking of the material, it is necessary to pre-drill holes with a diameter 2 mm smaller than the size of the self-tapping screws, this will simplify the workflow and eliminate damage to the plywood during assembly
Quality bonding To provide additional security, the elements can be glued together; for this, high-quality wood glue should be used. The work is carried out as follows: the elements to be joined are ground to obtain a perfectly flat surface, after which it is necessary to clean the surface of dust and apply glue to it. The parts are tightly compressed with each other and left in this position until the composition is completely dry.
Correct bend If you want to bend certain elements (for example, for the backs of chairs), then you must first moisten the surfaces with plenty of water, then bend the parts and fix them in this position for at least 12 hours

Advice!
If in some areas the upper part of the veneer has peeled off, then you need to lubricate the surfaces with wood glue, and then firmly press the area through the paper gasket.

Overview of some options

We will talk about some types of products, you can make the same tables, or you can take the ideas described below as a basis and make the option that best suits your conditions.

The simplest design

In order to make an original table for a gazebo or suburban area, you will need old tire and a piece of plywood with a thickness of 10 mm or more, so that the surface is rigid and resistant to stress.

The workflow looks like this:

  • If you have, then you can simply glue 2-3 sheets together, for this you can use either a special glue gun, or carpentry glue, which lubricates the surfaces and the elements are tightly compressed together until the composition dries completely;
  • The wheel needs to be washed well, the surface is best painted or varnished so that the rubber does not get dirty and looks more attractive later, you can use a plain version, or you can make some kind of pattern or ornament;
  • Next, you need to cut the plywood according to the diameter of the tire., you can use a compass for marking, or you can apply folk method- tie a cord to an awl or other sharp object, the length of which is equal to the desired radius, and a pencil is tied to the other end. The tip is placed in the center, after which a perfectly even circle is drawn, cutting is done using an electric jigsaw with a special narrow blade for figured sawing;

  • Next, holes are drilled along the diameter of the circle., after that you can screw the impromptu tabletop directly to the rubber, the fasteners fit into it very well. You can screw the legs from below - the main stage is completed;
  • If desired, you can carefully wrap the structure with a jute cord., which is impregnated with an acrylic composition for fixing, as a result you will get a very original element of the interior, as in the photo below.

Buying furniture in a store may not always meet your expectations. Now you can quickly and easily make a table with your own hands, which will come out much cheaper. Even without carpentry experience, you can assemble a rather original table model, and then decorate it as you wish. Moreover, you know exactly what your interior needs and what exactly it can harmoniously complement.

Don't worry if you don't know how to make a plywood table. The site has a large number of tips on how to do it right, as well as photo and video instructions. Can do folding table for living room, kitchen table or any other model. The main thing is to draw up drawings in advance and follow the preliminary sketches during the entire process of work.

If you decide to make a plywood table with your own hands, then take care of a sufficient amount of material. There must be several bars, which will later become the legs of the product. In order for the final work to turn out to be worthy, every detail needs to be prepared, and in this case you will need:

  • jigsaw;
  • building level and tape measure;
  • drill;
  • pencil;
  • Sander;
  • construction adhesive.

Making a table with your own hands, you can be sure that it will serve you for many years. Each manufactured part is subjected to a thorough inspection, and the removal of irregularities, splinters and other shortcomings is mandatory. Before assembly, to increase the service life and appearance, all parts can be varnished.

Plywood countertop can have absolutely any shape. It all depends on your imagination. For a sample, you can take photos from the site and supplement them. Plywood is very easy to transform, so you can easily make even a round table. Remember that when choosing a material for a countertop, you should pay attention to its thickness. by the most the best option it is considered - 20 mm, since such a thickness can withstand quite a lot of weight.

Table assembly

A plywood table should begin to be assembled from the legs. This is the basis that must firmly hold ready product. You can fasten them with a screwdriver, but it is advisable to additionally coat the joints with glue, it will allow you to more firmly fix the parts. Remember that you must definitely follow the schemes that you must prepare in advance. Any deviations threaten that the structure will soon loosen and cease to fulfill its functions.

The tabletop is attached according to pre-marked schemes. If you later decorate the surface, you can attach it with a screwdriver from above. In order for the surface to remain completely clean, you can fix the tabletop from below to the building corners.

As a result of the work, you can make sure that making furniture at home is not only quite economical, but also interesting. And the completed project will surely please your loved ones.

In order to make the furniture look more aesthetically pleasing, you need to hide some of its parts. For example, the edge of the countertop looks ugly if you do not put a special construction edge on it. It will not only hide the flaws, but also extend the life of the table. Moisture, which during operation can get on the countertop, will quickly destroy it, and the edging will protect it from this problem for a long time.

The edging gives the table a finished look

Be sure to cover the entire finished structure with varnish, even if you have already done it disassembled. This coating hides all the flaws that arise during the assembly process, and also strengthens the protective properties of the material. Even if you decide to paint it in any color, do not skimp on varnish, the shade of paint from it will only become brighter.

The material that makes up the countertop must be durable and preferably new. Even small cracks will greatly reduce its service life, and chips will spoil the appearance. With the right approach, you can assemble the finished product in one day, and for those who already have carpentry experience, sometimes a few hours are enough.

Homemade furniture is in big fashion right now. She has a lot of advantages over the factory - House master knows exactly what he made his cabinets and armchairs from, and usually tries to ensure that his creations not only decorate the interior, but also serve for a long time. If you decide to do this and you have some materials left after the repair, you can first try to make a plywood table with your own hands. Some models will be discussed in our article.

What would you like?

Plywood is an excellent material from which, in principle, any furniture can be made, and for a table it is even more suitable than the now popular chipboard. But before you make a plywood table, think about what your product should be:

  • compact;
  • convenient;
  • beautiful.

Otherwise, it simply makes no sense to get down to business. In stores you will find a lot of different tables from the most unexpected materials. Among them, there are certainly plywood tables. There are many options that you can do with your own hands:

  • magazine;
  • children;
  • writing;
  • kitchen;
  • table-workbench;
  • any other model, up to secretary tables and models combined with cabinets.

Much depends on what exactly made you get down to business. Do you want to seriously engage in the manufacture of furniture, completely furnish your apartment, or do you just have pieces of plywood left that need to be used somewhere? But in any case, it is better to start with something small.

Important! The first plywood table can be a coffee table - it will take the remnants of what you used during the repair. By the way, not necessarily plywood - maybe laminate, and chipboard.

Coffee table

To make a small plywood table with your own hands, drawings are not required, but a template is very useful. The table, which is described below, is attached to the wall.

Important! Your future product may be of different heights, in which case it is not at all necessary to comply sanitary norms prescribing how to sit at the table and how the legs should stand. There is a magazine on it, some kind of figurine and a table lamp.

Dig into the bins and see if you have:

  • a piece of plywood for the countertop;
  • a small but whole sheet of plywood or thick cardboard - it is needed for the template;
  • carpentry or other moisture-resistant glue;
  • jigsaw;
  • a circular saw;
  • pencil;
  • vise;
  • grinder (you can get by with just sandpaper, but this will take more time);
  • fasteners;
  • remnants of wallpaper, a sheet of drawing paper or graph paper;
  • long line;
  • varnish, wax or oil.

We assemble the legs and prepare the details

We start making a table with a sketch:

  1. Think of the shape of the tabletop - it can be rectangular, square, round, oval, with a notch, or even a fancy shape.
  2. Think of the shape of the legs - you can make them straight or curved.
  3. Draw it all on a piece of paper.
  4. Consider the dimensions. The table is small, so the main parameter to be guided by is the size of the plywood sheet, unless, of course, you plan to make a type-setting tabletop from pieces.
  5. Draw the legs in full size on a large sheet.
  6. Transfer the drawing to thick cardboard.
  7. Cut the legs according to the template - if the shape is complex, you can use not an electric one, but a regular one manual jigsaw.
  8. If the plywood isn't thick enough, double-ply the legs.
  9. Glue the layers.
  10. Remove excess glue and let the blanks dry.
  11. Put your feet on flat surface.
  12. Align them with the pattern.

Important! The model, which is attached to the wall, has only two legs.

table top

If the countertop is simple and made from a single piece, there is no problem. It's just cut out. It's a different matter if you only have pieces of plywood or if you want to make a typesetting out of different types wood. In this case, the fragments are cut at an angle so that a flat surface can be made from them and no seams are visible. First you need to glue the pieces into a single whole, and only then cut the countertop according to the template. After the blanks appear, do the following:

  1. We grind the surfaces of the legs and countertops - we get rid of splinters, sharp corners and so on.
  2. On the underside of the tabletop, we outline the places for self-tapping screws.
  3. We fasten the legs using furniture corners.
  4. On the wall we outline a straight line for fasteners.
  5. We fix the table on the corners or on a metal profile.

Important! The corners must be fastened from below under the tabletop so that they are not visible from the outside.

What plywood to choose?

A do-it-yourself plywood table does not have to be fixed to the wall. Can do the most regular table, on one or four legs. And it can be much larger. But in such cases, you can’t get rid of the remnants of materials, plywood must be chosen specially, and the question arises which one.

Important! Plywood is a glued veneer, and the number of layers is always odd, and most often it is divided by 3.

This material has enough advantages, and the main ones are strength and abrasion resistance. They are due to the location of the fibers. For the manufacture of plywood are used:

  • birch;
  • coniferous trees.

Important! There are also types when the veneer is made from birch, and the inner layers are made from coniferous trees. These are fairly cheap varieties. There is also material made entirely from deciduous trees, but it is more expensive.

On the price tags in the store you can find some not entirely clear designations:

  • brand;
  • grade;
  • grinding.

Brand

The brand designates such qualities of plywood as:

  • moisture resistance;
  • application area.

You may come across such designations:

Here's what to remember here:

  • FC means that carbamide resin glue was used, this brand is used for furniture and internal works in the premises.
  • For outdoor work, FSF is used - this is a moisture-resistant material, but formaldehyde is included in the composition, this option is not suitable for furniture.
  • Melamine resins are used for FKM plywood, which makes it possible to use the material for all works.
  • FBA means that plywood is unstable to moisture, it can be used for living room furniture, but it is not suitable for kitchen and bathroom.
  • An excellent option - FOF. plywood covered protective film. It is expensive, but of high quality, besides, the film can be colored.

Variety

This indicator is determined appearance surfaces. It is denoted by the letter E - this is the highest quality. This is followed by reduction factors, they are indicated by Roman numerals from I to IV or ordinary Arabic. In this case, the same sheet can be of two varieties - separately for the face and the wrong side.

Grinding

Unpolished material is designated as NSh. There may be other options:

  • Ш1 - one side is polished;
  • Ш2 - the sheet is polished on both sides.

Important! On some sheets, you can also see the letter F with different indices - this is how the amount of formaldehyde is indicated.

Some basic principles for working with plywood

Before you make a plywood table with your own hands, as well as any other furniture, try to master the main principles of working with this material. It's about tools. It is better to use a jigsaw, and for some especially fine work- manual jigsaw. Any of them allows you to make high-quality cuts, and not necessarily straight ones. Sawing with a jigsaw is a separate genre, a manual jigsaw allows you to cut fancy lines that require high precision, and an electric one speeds up the process where ultra-precision is not needed.

Important! Pay attention to saws. The smaller their teeth, the more accurate the cut will be.

fasteners

Do-it-yourself plywood table, as well as a cabinet, stool or hanging shelves, you only need to fasten special self-tapping screws. They are designed to mount wooden parts and perfectly hold even in chipboard, not to mention plywood and solid wood.

To work with self-tapping screws, you will need a drill - manual or electric, and a set of drills.

Important! A hole is made under the screws in advance, and it should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the fastener - by about 2 mm.

DIY plywood dining table

Now you know how to choose plywood, how to work with it, and even tried to make small table. You can move on to further achievements. For example, do dinner table from plywood with their own hands. It will not be much more difficult than a magazine one if you choose the right materials, and the process is already familiar to you:

  1. Just like DIY coffee table, sketch and draw the leg and table templates.
  2. Templates can be handed over to the printing house to be printed on a special self-adhesive film - then they can be glued directly onto plywood and cut according to them.
  3. Prepare plywood - if it is too thin, glue 2-3 sheets together, the table should not sag.
  4. Sand saw cuts and surfaces if necessary.
  5. On the underside of the tabletop, mark the places for the holes for the legs.
  6. Drill them out, but not through.
  7. manual milling machine grind the tops of the legs so that they fit into the prepared grooves.
  8. Glue on the legs.
  9. Set the table the way it will stand.
  10. Align the legs.

Round plywood table

How to make a plywood table with your own hands, if you prefer a round or oval shape? Yes, just like any other. All you need is a table top template. If you need a coffee table small size, you can use a round tire. It just needs to be washed very well.

Important! There are options when the tire becomes part of the table - the tabletop is attached directly to it, so that it turns out not only a table, but also a cavity for various little things. But you can also make just a tabletop with legs.

So, circle the tire on plywood:

  1. Cut the table top.
  2. Sand it down.
  3. Turn over the back side.
  4. Mark a place for the leg.
  5. Drill it out.

Leg

The leg of such a small table is a wooden round stick on a cross - this is the easiest option. You can make a table with four legs, but you need to position them correctly:

  1. Lay the table top front side down.
  2. Find the center (this must be done very accurately).
  3. Draw 2 diameters at a 90° angle to each other.
  4. At these diameters, drill holes for the legs, stepping back 5-10 cm from the edge.
  5. Glue the legs or secure with corners.

DIY plywood children's table

If you have already tried to make a dining table or a coffee table out of plywood, children's furniture will not be a problem for you. The main thing here is to make the table in size, and so that the product is durable and safe. Therefore, we make it on the frame.

You will need:

  • a piece of thick plywood for the countertop (can be glued together from several sheets);
  • strips of plywood for the frame and legs;
  • carpentry tool;
  • fixture.

The order of work will be as follows:

  1. Cut out the blanks for the legs - according to the templates, if necessary, glue the legs from several layers.
  2. Prepare the countertop (glue from several layers, sand).
  3. Cut out strips for the frame - their width is 10-15 cm, the length is 10 cm shorter than the sides of the countertop.

Start the assembly with the frame, which is placed under the countertop:

  1. Check how straight the corners are.
  2. Secure the sides of the frame with furniture corners.
  3. Screw the legs in the corners so that their upper parts are inside the frame.
  4. The tabletop can be glued or fixed with screws.
  5. Be sure to chamfer the corners.
  6. Cover the countertop with edging tape.
  7. The legs can be connected with crossbars at the bottom for greater stability of the whole structure.

How to decorate a table?

It depends on what it is intended for, what technology you used to assemble it, and what furniture you already have. The only thing you shouldn't do is paint. But there are many other options:

  • varnish;
  • In a word, making a plywood table is a process accessible even to a novice master. The most important thing in this story is to find suitable materials and buy good tools. Try it and maybe you will succeed real masterpiece worthy of a palace, because even the most famous masters started somewhere.

A coffee table is a piece of furniture that is quite common, like armchairs, comfortable sofas, chairs, beds. The purpose of the tables is more decorative than functional, they store small items, books, newspapers or magazines. In rare cases, a coffee table can be used as coasters for snacks, cups of tea.

In order to make a coffee table out of plywood, you need to choose the right material, if it is too thin, then it is better to glue the sheets in two layers.

Most often, tables are factory-made items, but you can also make stylish and attractive things from inexpensive materials. The coffee table can be made from plywood. This is a versatile material that is often used today for the manufacture of furniture. But factory products are not very imaginative, and sometimes you want to decorate your home with stylish and comfortable pieces of furniture.

A plywood table can be made with carvings, comfortable shelves. Products from glued layers of plywood will look decorative. For this, small parts of it or whole sheets are used, which are glued together with a special waterproof glue designed for working with wood. After manufacturing, the surface of the table can be varnished, oiled, stained.

Shellac varnish will give the product a more noble surface, which is inherent in antique beautiful things from natural wood.

Assembling a table from scraps of plywood

During repairs, many have plywood scraps left, which are often simply thrown away as unnecessary. But it is from these pieces that you can assemble an unusual and beautiful coffee table in the Art Nouveau style. It will have two legs, and the tabletop will come into close contact with the walls. For a table, you can take a whole sheet of plywood, but it will have to be cut into separate pieces, so it is better to use waste. If they are not there, then you can always ask about their availability in the construction markets and in stores where they will gladly get rid of unnecessary materials.

How to make a table unusual shape to be comfortable, compact and decorative? First you have to prepare the materials and tools that will be needed for work:

  • a small piece of whole plywood or thick cardboard that will be needed for the template;
  • pieces of plywood with the same thickness, preferably 18 mm. The number of such pieces should be large, since the main structure will be glued from them;
  • moisture resistant glue for working with wooden surfaces;
  • jigsaw;
  • pencil;
  • a circular saw;
  • vise;
  • Sander;
  • oil or varnish for processing the table after its assembly;
  • fasteners for fixing the table to the wall surface.

How to make a plywood table quickly? First, you need to draw a template on a piece of paper, according to which the legs of the product will be cut out. Since the table is made in modern style, the legs are best made curved or even openwork. The process of building a table begins with a sketch. On a large sheet of paper full size I need to draw the legs. After that, the drawing is transferred to thick cardboard so that the legs are symmetrical. You can draw only one side, the result will be smooth and beautiful models.

If the template is ready, then you can start gluing pieces of plywood. It is necessary to make the design in such a way that their shape repeats the shape of future table legs. After each gluing of 2 parts, it is necessary to remove all excess mortar with a clean cloth, squeeze the pieces of plywood tightly together so that the gluing is of better quality. When the blanks are ready for the legs, you need to lay them on a flat surface, attach a template on top and circle with a simple pencil. Now you can cut the resulting structure with a jigsaw.

Countertop preparation and woodworking

With a countertop, everything is a little more complicated. You need to get a beautiful pattern, so it is best to glue the pieces of plywood at an angle so that they converge in the center. The angle of inclination of the parts that will be located from the edges to the center should be one, then the drawing will turn out to be very beautiful. After gluing and drying the glue, the countertop should also be cut according to the template. When you make such a table, you should get 3 separate parts - these are two legs and a tabletop. They need to give an attractive appearance, remove all sharp corners.

With a grinder, it is necessary to carefully and very carefully process the entire surface of each workpiece so that it becomes smooth and beautiful. No burrs, sharp edges or corners should remain. After the surfaces are processed, it is necessary to assemble the table; ordinary self-tapping screws can be used for fastening. The structure can be attached to the wall with special metal corners, which must be placed so that they are not visible from the outside. Now the main thing remains - you need to make the surface of the coffee table beautiful and stylish.

For decoration, it is recommended to use shellac varnish, which will give the product a noble matte surface. natural wood. Since the pieces of plywood were glued at an angle, the whole structure acquires a very interesting, original pattern, which in no way resembles that the product is made from ordinary plywood and waste. It is not recommended to use paint for decoration, since a beautiful pattern will no longer be visible, the table will take on a normal appearance.

Production from birch plywood

For the construction of a coffee table, birch plywood is excellent, which has an attractive appearance, strength, and is very easy to work with. The design will consist of plywood blanks glued together. The shape of the table can be any, but first you need to draw up a drawing. This will allow you to immediately calculate the amount of material, determine what tools and installation steps will be needed.

To build a small but very attractive coffee table, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • birch plywood;
  • moisture resistant glue, specially designed for working with wooden surfaces;
  • wooden hairpin;
  • oil or varnish to impregnate the future surface of the table;
  • sandpaper;
  • jigsaw;
  • a circular saw;
  • drill.

The manufacturing process consists of the following simple steps:

  • a drawing of the future table is drawn up. In this case, it will be a small structure, the length of which will be 800 mm and the height 400 mm. Based on these parameters, birch plywood will be cut;
  • it is recommended to draw the drawing in full size, after which it will need to be given to the printing house so that the templates on the self-adhesive film are printed on the plotter. Such templates will need to be glued to the surface of the plywood, and then carefully cut out along the edges;
  • all blanks are cut with a jigsaw, sandpaper their edges are completely cleaned of burrs. Markings for fasteners are applied to the surface of the blanks. Holes are drilled with a drill, then you can begin to connect the parts;
  • it is recommended to first preparatory work and then start processing the wood. The material for the table itself is purchased in the amount of 3 sheets, the dimensions of each are 1200 × 2400 mm, the thickness of the sheet should be 18 mm;
  • 27 blanks are required for work. Each should have a size of 400 × 800 mm, which fully corresponds to the dimensions of the future design;
  • holes for fasteners are made in each workpiece using a milling nozzle. At first, only 23 pieces can be prepared, 4 left for further work. Holes must be cut in full accordance with the template so that the table looks attractive and neat.
