High pressure water installations. Pumps to increase water pressure

Often, water supply systems have insufficient pressure, which complicates not only the adoption water procedures, but also the operation of auxiliary household appliances. For example, the correct operation of a washing machine or a shower cabin may be impaired. To get out of this situation, you have to use a pump to increase the water pressure. In an apartment or house in such situations, it is indispensable.

Many residents of houses and apartments face weak water pressure.

Devices that increase the pressure in the plumbing system are small structures with an engine operating from a conventional electrical network. Installation of the device is carried out by inserting into the pipeline. During operation, the torque from the rotor is transferred to the impeller, which creates additional pressure.

All products can be divided according to the method of management:

  • hand-held devices are switched by a person during operation for a certain amount of time;
  • automatic devices switch independently, as they have a special sensor.

Another classifying feature is the type of cooling;

  • wet rotor models operate almost silently, as they pass liquid directly through themselves;
  • products with a dry rotor create noise during operation, but are more productive.

Note! Before you purchase a pump to increase the water pressure in an apartment or residential building, you must also consider allowable temperature working environment. However, there are also universal devices that operate in a wide range.

Appliance Requirements

If the problem associated with insufficient pressure in the water supply system is solved by using a special pump, then you should understand what requirements are placed on it. They basically boil down to this:

  • uninterrupted work;
  • optimum pressure working fluid;
  • affordable cost;
  • required performance.

Note! If water does not reach the upper floors of an apartment or a private house at all, then instead of a conventional pump, it is recommended to purchase a special station. They create the necessary pressure.

Various models of pumps for increasing water pressure: prices and manufacturers

High-quality devices that are able to serve properly for many years are produced by trusted manufacturers. In this regard, it is proposed to study the prices for pump models of well-known brands. The following products are popular in the modern market.

Model Wilo PB-088EA

Of all the water pressure booster pumps Willo PB-088 EA can be considered the most suitable for domestic use. The device is installed on a pipeline with a working medium up to 60 degrees. It is quiet, so its operation is quite comfortable. The device is capable of functioning in two modes at once - automatic and manual.

The performance of the device is 2.1 cubic meters. m in one hour. You can buy it in a specialized store for about 3500-4000 rubles.

Note! It is impossible to buy a high-quality pump for increasing water pressure for a small amount of money. If the cost of the product is much less than the minimum amount indicated in the table, then it is better to refuse to purchase the product.

How to install a pump to increase water pressure in an apartment or house

It is quite possible to independently carry out work on the installation of the device. However, it is still necessary to familiarize yourself with the basic principles of installation in order to avoid catastrophic errors. Refusal to involve professional workers will save on installation.

Introduction to the installation process

When installing a pump to increase water pressure in a house or apartment, a small piece of pipe is cut out at the inlet of the water supply. The device itself is connected directly to the two ends. If the pipes are made of plastic, then you may need a special soldering iron.

The device must be inserted between cut pipes

When docking with a pipeline, you can confuse the direction of water movement through the device, so you should carefully look at the instructions that come with the product to improve the pressure. After the installation is completed, the device is connected to the mains.

Right installed pump will meet the needs of the dwelling in the water for long time if you follow these guidelines:

  • it is desirable to protect the mounted equipment from blockages by placing a coarse filter at the inlet;
  • it is mandatory to install shut-off valves in front of the pump so that it is possible to carry out preventive measures;
  • the unit must be located in a heated room, which is protected from moisture;
  • the first time it is necessary to check the device for leaks in order to detect malfunctions in time.

Note! It is advisable for the safe operation of a device that increases the pressure in the plumbing system to equip a special one that will be connected through a separate RCD.

Main selection criteria

When purchasing a product to increase the pressure in the water supply network, certain points must be taken into account. Usually six criteria are taken into account.

  • Power indicator. The value of this parameter will determine how many consumers can operate the device at the same time.
  • The level of noise generated during operation. Models can operate loudly or very quietly. This primarily affects the comfort in operation.
  • Possible height of water rise. Some devices may not reach the working environment directly to the required level.
  • Device dimensions. From sizes specific model will depend on the possibility of placement in a particular room.
  • Cross section of connected pipes. If this criterion is not taken into account, installation problems may occur.
  • Producer reputation. Mostly high-quality products are produced by companies that are highly popular in the market.

Summarizing

With the advent of pumps to increase water pressure in apartments and separately standing houses deficiencies in plumbing systems can be completely eliminated. Such devices are available from an economic point of view to a wide range of consumers, and therefore are in demand. In some cases, it is better to purchase a device to improve the pressure yourself than to solve the problem with specialized services.

If you are tired of the weak water pressure in the tap, and you want to solve this problem, then you can immediately be offered to install a pump to increase the water pressure. We can say that this is the simplest solution, however, this is not possible in all cases. For example, what to do if the water is turned off according to the schedule in your city or microdistrict? The pump will not completely solve the problem of lack of water. In this case, it becomes necessary to create an additional source of water. Or, at least, then you should purchase equipment for back-up storage of a small amount of water.

If you have decided everything and in your case the installation of the pump - perfect solution, then it is important to familiarize yourself with all the intricacies of choosing this device. However, first of all, it is necessary to understand the reasons low pressure. Although the main direction of this article is the choice of a pump, we will consider this issue in a comprehensive and broader way with you. In particular, we will figure out what the optimal pressure should be in the tap for normal operation. household appliances(washing machine, dishwasher), ease of use of plumbing fixtures, etc.

Water pressure - what should it be

In general, pressure is measured in atmospheres or bars. So, 1 bar is equal to 0.99 atmospheres. If we are talking about apartments in multi-storey private buildings, then there are norms that regulate the level of pressure on the entrances to the house and the entrance to each apartment. These regulations are described in SNIP 2.04.02-84 and SNIP 2.04.01-85.

The table shows the pressure indicators for different areas, as well as in the apartment and house:

Measurement sites

Pressure readings and calculations

Entering a private one-story house

The pressure level should be about 1 atm.

Entering a private multi-storey building

If the house has 2 floors, then it is necessary to increase the pressure by 0.5 atm, for a total of 1.5 atm. So much is added to each subsequent floor.

For a house with 9 floors

At the entrance to the house there should be a pressure equal to 4.6 atm.

For each individual apartment

The water pressure is in the region of 0.3–6 atm. It is for cold water, and for hot up to 4.5 atm. However, in reality there is no great pressure, since the water passes through a complex pipeline system.

for mixer

Enough 0.2 atm.

For bathroom faucet and shower stall

0.3 atm is required.

For drain tank toilet bowl

The water pressure should be 0.2 atm.

For home plumbing and meet everyday needs, 2 atm pressure is enough. However, there are exceptions. For a shower cabin with a hydromassage function, as well as for a bathtub with a jacuzzi, a pressure of up to 4 atm is required.

Some may think that what more pressure will be in the system, the better. But there is also back side medals. If the pressure is too high, for example, from 6.5 atm or more, fittings on pipes and other connections may not withstand. Faucets, faucets and other plumbing equipment may also fail.

How to determine water pressure

Given the data above, it is important to be able to determine the water pressure at home. This task is simplified if there is already measuring equipment at the water supply inlet to your apartment - a pressure gauge, as can be seen in the photo:

However, as practice shows, rarely does anyone have such equipment. For this reason, in this section, we offer you several methods on how to determine the level of water pressure.

Stationary pressure gauge - the optimal solution

If you are installing or replacing a pipeline, then you can install a stationary pressure gauge to measure the water pressure in the system. In this case, you will not need to resort to improvised means.

Ideally, if a pressure gauge is installed near each plumbing fixture. However, from an aesthetic point of view, this is a clear minus. Plus, it's pretty costly.

If you follow the practice, then the pressure gauge is installed immediately at the entrance to the apartment. At the same time to the counter. Why? Everything is very simple: the filter, the check valve and the meter itself are already depressurizing. Therefore, if you are interested in the indicator directly at the entrance, then the pressure gauge is set that way.

But remember, the pressure will be different on all consumers, as it drops, passing through many obstacles in the pipeline. Most of all, the following elements affect the reduction of water pressure:

  • places with a change in pipe diameter;
  • installation of control and shut-off valves;
  • filters;
  • tees;
  • turns;
  • hoses (on the toilet bowl, in the shower stall, etc.).

Given all this, the water pressure indicator at the entrance to the apartment and at the exit from a particular consumer will be different. If you do not have a pressure gauge installed at all, then below we present 2 measurement methods for you, which require a portable pressure gauge and a hose.

Video: operation of stationary pressure gauges

Shower manometer for testing

One of simple methods for measuring pressure - install a pressure gauge instead of a shower head. To do this, you will need to prepare the following:

  • thread extension;
  • manometer for water up to 6 atm;
  • adapter for thread ½;
  • fum tape.

All these elements should be connected to each other. To do this, screw a metal extension to the pressure gauge, and then switch to a ½ thread. To seal the threads, a fum tape must be used. Important to do hermetic connection Otherwise, accurate measurements will not be possible.

After that, in the shower stall, we unscrew the watering can and instead of it we fasten our design with a pressure gauge. At the same time, it is important to be careful that the sealing gum is not lost in the nut from under the watering can, it looks like this:

Now you can open the tap and measure the water pressure. In this case, it is important to perform one operation: so that there is no air in the shower, switch the water supply from the shower to the tap several times. The air will come out and you will be able to read the pressure value.

But here you should not rush to conclusions. The fact is that water enters the shower through complex system pipelines. Moreover, it is known that the more turns the water passes and the thinner the pipe (the diameter of the hose is much smaller than the diameter of the inlet pipe to the apartment), the more the pressure drops. Therefore, in this way you can only find out the pressure indicator on this plumbing fixture. If such an operation is performed, for example, near washing machine, then the indicator will be slightly different, since the diameter of the hose is larger than that of the shower.

This method is convenient in that it is possible to determine the presence of a blockage in the pipe. For example, you have noticed that the water pressure in the bathroom is good, but in the kitchen it is relatively low. By installing a pressure gauge and comparing the indicators, you can easily determine in which section of the pipeline a blockage has formed.

Just before disconnecting the shower head from the hose or dismantling another plumbing fixture, do not forget to turn off the water. Otherwise, you will not escape flooding.

Using a hose to calculate pressure

If not accurate, then approximate pressure measurements can be made using a conventional hose 2 meters long. This method is mainly used only to measure the pressure at the outlet of water from a faucet.

An important condition is the use of a transparent hose. This will allow you to make the necessary measurements.

The measurement process is as follows:

Stages of work

Sequencing

At the first stage, it is necessary to put the hose at one end on the tap. In this case, the diameter of the hose should be such that it can be easily put on the gander of the mixer.

Now you need to worry about reliable sealing. To do this, the attached hose can be fixed with a metal clamp.

After that, the hose rises to a vertical position. From above it should be drowned out with a cork.

Now you can open the water by completely unscrewing the tap. After a short time, the water in the hose will stop at a certain level.

Next, some calculations are made. First of all, the length of the hose is determined from the zero level to the plug (this is the place that is on the same level as the water outlet from the gander), see the diagram:

The length of the hose from the plug to the water level in the hose is also measured.

Having all the measurements, some calculations should be made according to the formula:

P \u003d Ratm × H0 ÷ H1.

In this formula:

  • P - pressure in the pipeline at the outlet of the valve, measured in atm;
  • Ratm - pressure in the hose until the valve is opened, measured in atmospheres;
  • H0 is the length of the hose before the start of testing from the zero level;
  • H1 is the length of the hose between the plug and the established water level.

But remember that such calculations will be close to reality, more precisely, pressure can be measured using the methods described above.

Causes of low water pressure in the water supply

Before taking any action, it is important to determine the cause of the low pressure. In some cases, the purchase and installation of pumping equipment will not completely solve the problem. The reasons can be varied:

  • water leakage on the water route;
  • overgrowth of the inner diameter of the pipes;
  • the water filter is clogged;
  • Faulty faucet or other shut-off valves.

Often the cause of low pressure is poor service from the water supplier. For example, utilities may deliberately shut down one or more pumps to save money. As a result, the consumer receives water, however, its pressure leaves much to be desired.

It is noteworthy that, according to the provision of SNIP No. 2.04.02 of 1984, as well as state decree No. 307 of 2006, the minimum water pressure for one-story house is 1 atm. If the house has 2 floors, then 2.4 atm.

Now we will consider several methods on how to increase the water pressure, and also consider in detail the option of installing pumping equipment.

Video: causes of low water pressure in the pipeline

This video explains how low water pressure can be caused by a clogged aerator:

Here you will learn that water pressure may drop due to a clogged coarse filter:

And here it is told about why there may be a weak pressure due to the check valve:

How to increase the pressure

It would be absurd to think that the installation of a pump is an absolute panacea for the problem of low pressure. This option is possible only in one case - when water is supplied to the pipeline uninterruptedly. With constant water outages, if we are talking about a city highway, idling the pump can lead to its breakdown. If there is no water, then the pump simply overheats and the motor burns out. Water is a natural coolant. However, there is a way out here - the installation of special automation, for example:

  • relay for protection against dry running;
  • water level sensor;
  • water flow control.

This equipment is designed to turn off the pump in the absence of water. As a result, the pump will be completely protected from possible breakdowns.

Video: dry running pump protection

If you live in apartment building, installing a pump to increase pressure significantly degrades the quality of your neighbors' water supply. To prevent this, you can take some measures. At the same time, solutions for an apartment and a private house should be different. Why? Now see for yourself.

The nuances of installing a pumping station

In this case, the mandatory component is centrifugal pump self-priming type. This equipment will allow even at zero pressure to raise water from a certain depth to the inlet. This will ensure sufficient water pressure.

Additionally, such a station is equipped with a pressure switch. Due to this, when the pressure in the pipeline decreases, the pump will automatically turn off / turn on. Plus, a supply of water under sufficient pressure will be created in the storage tank. It is consumed only in those cases when it will be observed its absence in the highway. As a result, such an installation provides a small supply of water and the necessary pressure. But this method is relevant only for private houses.

Consider this example: as you know, on the upper floors of the house, residents most often experience the problem of lack of water. If they begin to solve it in the aforementioned way, then soon in the whole house, at least among the residents of one riser, a struggle for a stream of water will begin. As a result, this may end up for you with fines from utilities. After all, the installation of pumping equipment without the appropriate permits is prohibited. Plus, installing a pump will cause an imbalance in the entire line. Also be aware that self-priming pumps have technical limitations. They are able to raise water to a height of about 8 meters. So, if you live on the third floor, it will work at a stretch, not to mention the floors above.

Installation of backup water supply - how to implement it correctly

This system is most effective in cases where you have time to turn off the water. The installed tank is being filled cold water. All subsequent water consumption will be carried out from it. It is equipped with a pump and other equipment. Due to this, sufficient water pressure is ensured throughout the house or apartment. Plus, the problem of turning off the water is solved, you will have it around the clock. It will not be only if the electricity is turned off.

Installation of backup water supply is easier to implement in a private house. In an apartment it is quite problematic to allocate space for installing a reserve tank. Unless you have many rooms, and you can allocate one for such needs, or you live on the top floor and the container can be installed in the attic. Such a solution will not cause imbalance in the water riser.

For the implementation of the project, it is necessary to select a suitable container. Most often, a plastic tank is used for this. Today you can find models of different sizes. The choice of tank size will depend on the estimated water consumption in your family. For a family of 3-4 people, a capacity of up to 500 liters is enough.

Video: backup water supply in the apartment

Place for tank installation

For apartments, a balcony / loggia, storage room, bathroom and other rooms where there will be free access to it can be a suitable place. If you live on the last or penultimate floor, then it makes sense to consider installing a tank in the attic. However, in this case, the container must be carefully insulated and take care of security measures so that it is not stolen.

If a backup barrel and pumping equipment is installed inside the apartment, then it is important that the pump is silent. Otherwise, it will annoy you and make your neighbors uncomfortable.

As for a private house, everything is much simpler here. The chosen location can be a basement or other technical room. The main condition is that it be heated.

Storage tank installation

So, in addition to the storage tank, you need to purchase a pump, preferably silent. In this category you can find equipment of such brands:

  • Grundfos MQ;
  • RENS;
  • Pedrollo 3 CPm and the like.

It is also necessary to install automation, which necessarily includes a pump protection relay against dry running. This relay will signal the pump on/off. Thus, the pumping equipment will be protected from damage.

To prevent the pump from turning on when minimum flow water, the system can be equipped with a hydraulic accumulator. Its volume will directly affect the frequency of switching on / off the pump.

So, the whole scheme of the reserve storage tank will work according to this principle: as soon as the water in the tap or mixer is turned on, the pump turns on and gives out sufficient pressure. If the water supply capacity is exhausted, the relay gives a signal to turn off the pump. As a result, the operation of the entire system will be safe and economical.

Video: installation and assembly features of the storage tank

As for the barrel, it is necessary to equip it with a float. As soon as it is filled, the float shuts off the water supply. The system completely resembles the principle of operation of the cistern on the toilet. A coarse water filter is also mounted. It is mounted at the entrance of the highway to the house, as well as in front of the pump. Thanks to this, no connections will penetrate into the storage tank, as well as into the pump, which can damage it.

Can install additional system filtering, this is optional. But keep in mind that the presence of filters will slightly reduce the pressure.

Also, the water storage system is equipped with shutoff valves, check valves, necessary fittings and other accessories. You can figure out the connection in more detail by looking at the diagrams presented in the article.

Diagrams: connection of a backup water storage tank

Pumping station for the entire riser

Another option that allows you to increase the water pressure in the apartment is the installation in the basement of a powerful pumping station, large storage capacity and hydraulic accumulator. In this case, the necessary pressure is maintained throughout the riser at the entrance, and the water will be around the clock. Although this solution seems to be the optimal solution, it is extremely difficult to implement it. Not all of your neighbors will agree to carry out such large-scale work, due to financial considerations. And for some, for example, the elderly, even such a pressure of water in the tap is enough.

The principle of operation of the dry-running relay protection

The relay is designed to control the water pressure in the system. If the pressure drops below a predetermined level, the relay is activated and the power circuit is interrupted. The pump is switched off and thus protected against dry running. One of the main elements of the relay is the membrane. It directly reacts to the contact group and pressure. If the water pressure decreases, then the membrane presses on the contact group, turning off the power as a result.

Based on the factory settings, the relay can respond to pressure in the range from 0.1 to 0.6 atm. At this pressure, the relay is activated and eliminates the dry running of the pump.

Video: dry running relay

Relay and accumulator: is it possible to combine into one system

If you use a hydraulic accumulator in your system, then the relay will not provide the pump with 100% dry-running protection. This is explained by the peculiarity of the operation of this system. The relay is installed in front of the accumulator and pressure switch. There is usually a check valve between the protection and the pump. As a consequence, the membrane inside the relay is always under pressure, which is created by the accumulator.

For clarity, let's look at the following situation: there is a small supply of water in the accumulator, while there is none in the well / reserve tank. Despite the fact that the lower pressure threshold is usually set in the region of 1.4–1.6 atm, the membrane in the relay will not work, since in fact there is pressure in the system. This will cause the pump to run dry. The pump will turn off only in two cases: when the water is used up from the accumulator, or when the pump burns out. If this happens when there is a water supply in the system, then this does not pose any threat. Another thing is when this happens in the absence of recharge. For example, at night they drained the tank, washed their hands, the tank filled with water. In this case, the pump, of course, turns on, but there is no signal to turn off. In the morning, the pump will most likely already be broken.

Given this, if the system is equipped with a hydraulic accumulator, it is preferable to use other devices to protect against dry running.

Video: why you need a hydraulic accumulator, how to connect and calculate it

From this video, you can learn about the role of the accumulator:

This story tells about the principle of operation of the accumulator:

And from this video you can learn how to calculate the capacity of a hydraulic accumulator:

Water level sensor - an alternative to a dry-running relay

Such sensors are mounted in reserve tanks, as well as in the case of wells / wells. In our case, consider a float sensor, although there is an analogue of it - an electronic one.

The float sensor is of two types:

  1. To empty (this sensor prevents the pump from running dry).
  2. For filling (this sensor prevents overflow of water).

In our case, the emptying sensor is just suitable option to completely eliminate the dry running of the pump:

The principle of operation is simple: if there is liquid in the tank, the float sensor is at the top, when the level drops, so that the power circuit is disconnected, the sensor drops. As a result, the pump will be completely switched off. It will not turn on until the level is restored to the required level, and the sensor will again give a signal to turn on.

To prevent the pump from running idle, the float cable is connected to a break in the phase wire.

Water pressure switch to control pump operation

The pressure switch consists of two elements: one hydraulic, the other electrical. The hydraulic part has a membrane. It presses on two springs (small and large). This gives a signal to turn the pump on/off. As for the electrical part, there is a group of contacts that close / open the electrical circuit, see the diagram for more details:

It is worth noting that the relay is available in two types:

  • electronic;
  • mechanical.

Considering that a mechanical relay is cheaper, it is more often used in the arrangement of plumbing systems.

Pressure switch connection diagram

Based on its structure, it becomes clear that the connection takes place in two stages, first to the electrical part, then to the water supply. This device does not need to be moved, for this reason its installation is carried out permanently. Consider how to connect to the electrical part and to the water supply.

We connect the electrical part

This is optional, but it is better to organize a separate electrical line for the pressure switch, so it is more likely that it will last longer. To do this, the wire is connected to the electrical panel, and an individual RCD is mounted.

When connecting a pressure switch, grounding is mandatory. This is explained by the fact that this device combines water and electricity, which is already unsafe.

Inside the relay there are 3 pairs of contacts, each of which has its own purpose:

  1. Grounding.
  2. To connect the neutral and phase wires from the control panel.
  3. For wires from the pump.

Connection is carried out according to the scheme from the manufacturer.

We connect to the water supply

The simplest and affordable way connecting the pressure switch to the water supply - installation of a special adapter, which has the necessary outputs. For this purpose, a five-pin fitting is used, see the connection diagram:

The following is connected to this fitting: a pressure gauge, a hydraulic accumulator, a pump, an outlet to water supply network inside the house and the pressure switch itself. Thanks to the pressure gauge, it will be much easier to monitor the pressure in the system and adjust the relay.

This connection scheme has its advantages. Water will flow into the house, bypassing the accumulator. First, water will flow into the taps, and only then the tank will be filled.

Video: connecting a pressure switch

Relay adjustment

Consider the adjustment process using the RDM-5 pressure switch model as an example:

It can carry out customization for any plumbing system. As a rule, a new (factory) relay has standard settings, it has a minimum pressure threshold of 1.5 atm, and a maximum threshold of 2.9 atm. If necessary, these indicators can be reset independently.

As we said above, the relay has two springs - small and large. So, the adjustment is carried out by tightening the nuts on the springs. If the nuts are loosened, the pressure drops, if tightened, the pressure increases. One turn of the nut is on average 0.6–0.8 atm. For this reason, do not twist them too much.

Classification of pumps for increasing water pressure

stand out specifications by which pumps are distinguished:

  • mode of operation;
  • cooling principle;
  • application.

Pump classification

Device types

By appointment

Such pumps are divided into two types:

  1. Universal. These are the ones that apply to any type of water.
  2. Same type. This refers to pumps that can only be used for cold or hot water.

According to the cooling method

Devices have various systems cooling, in particular, the following types are distinguished:

  1. Wet rotor (implies water cooling). Cooling is achieved by the pumped liquid. The rotor with the impeller is located in the water.
  2. Dry rotor (assuming air cooling). Cooling is achieved by fan blades, which are fixed on the shaft. With all this, the motor does not have direct contact with water.

By mode of operation

There are two types of pumps manual or automatic:

  1. Manual. The operation of the pump is completely continuous. The pump is turned off/on manually. It is extremely important to prevent the motor from overheating.
  2. Auto. In this case, the pump is equipped with automation. As soon as the faucet opens, the pump works, respectively, when the faucet closes, the pump stops working.

Pump and pumping station: advantages and disadvantages

The pump and pumping station have their own characteristics, which are noted in the table:

Pump type

Advantages

Flaws

pressure booster pump

Here it can be noted small size, which allows you to install it in different rooms. The pump is light in weight. Some models are silent. This is especially useful for apartments. You can mount the pump directly on the water pipe. Such equipment has a relatively low cost.

One of the obvious disadvantages is that such pumps are not able to raise the pressure level by several orders of magnitude.

Pumping station

One of the differences between such a station is that it is able to provide the living space with the necessary pressure. Its operation is carried out automatically, which greatly simplifies the operation process.

There are more shortcomings here, however, they are rather relative. Pumping stations are more difficult to mount. It also has large dimensions, which limits its use. During operation, it emits significant noise, which is unacceptable for apartments in a multi-storey building. Given this, it is better to allocate a separate room for the installation of the station. Among other things, it has a high price.

Pumping station: principle of operation

As for the pumping station for increasing pressure, a lot of effort is required to implement it. However, the result of increasing the pressure of water in the pipeline will be impressive. So, for its implementation, additional equipment is required:

  • relay for system control;
  • centrifugal pump;
  • hydraulic accumulator.

When using it, the consumer uses water that accumulates in the accumulator. Its use completely eliminates the possibility of pressure surges. You will be able to use water even if the water supply is cut off. The operation of the pumping station is controlled by a relay. If the pressure drops, the pump turns off.

Types of pumping stations

All pumping stations are divided into 2 types:

  • ejector with remote or built-in ejector;
  • ejectorless.

As for the ejector, they are equipped with a jet-centrifugal pump (self-priming). Models with a built-in ejector are less sensitive to the presence of air in the system and provide a high water pressure. Minus - the inability to raise water from great depths and a lot of noise during operation.

To raise water from a depth of 20 meters or more, you will need a station with a remote ejector. This pumping station can be installed at a remote distance from the well up to 40 m. If we talk about the disadvantages, then this is a high sensitivity to dirty water and the presence of air in the system.

As for jetless pumps, a special multi-stage design is used to supply water. Her work is almost silent. Such a pump consumes less electricity. However, the suction depth is not more than 9 meters.

Pumping stations are divided according to the type of tank used:

  • Cumulative. The tank is mounted separately from the station, mounted under the ceiling, installed in the attic and the like. Such a drive is practically not used today, since it is heavy, presents a risk of flooding and does not provide sufficient pressure.
  • diaphragm tank. The tank is mounted in basement because the water level is regulated by the accumulator. The tank is small. Mainly used for shallow wells.

In addition, pumping stations are divided according to the source of water supply:

  • Deep. The presence of a reliable case. The device can be completely immersed in water.
  • Non-submersible. The ejector is placed on top, and a hose is lowered into the water. However, such a pump can be used when the water is no deeper than 9 meters.

What to look for when choosing a device

If you have already approached the purchase of a pressure booster pump, then it is important to pay attention to several important parameters:

  • section of the pipe diameter;
  • maximum power and output pressure;
  • performance;
  • what level of noise is emitted during operation;
  • for which plumbing systems can hot / cold water be used;

Be sure to consider the fact that the pump you bought is on average capable of increasing water pressure up to 4 atm and up to 40%. Therefore, their use is possible under conditions of constant water pressure in the pipeline equal to 1.5 atm.

Among other things, you should determine the quality of your wiring. Often, a newly installed pump is not able to deliver the required pressure due to low voltage. Therefore, it may be necessary to draw an individual line.

Important technical specifications

The table below shows some of the technical characteristics that you should definitely pay attention to when choosing a pump:

Characteristics

Description of parameters

Max head

This indicator indicates the maximum increase in water pressure in the system. An extremely important characteristic, especially if you have a two-story house, and the pump will be installed in the basement. If you choose the wrong one, the pump will not fulfill its main purpose.

Maximum feed

This characteristic indicates the volume of water that the pump is capable of pumping in a certain time. Measurements can be specified in the following formats:

  • in minutes and liters (l/min);
  • in hours and cubic meters (m 3 / hour).

But be careful here, as the maximum value is usually indicated. To determine the real parameters, divide the indicators by two.

Power (nominal/maximum)

The measurement is in watts (W). This indicator indicates the performance of the motor that drives the impeller. Give preference to the most powerful pump models. This will be the guarantee high pressure.

Temperature regime

The booster pump can only be used for hot or cold water. Therefore, pay attention to the mark, which is indicated in degrees.

Boost Pump Models

Now consider the models and features of various water pumps that can be used to increase pressure. It is also worth noting that in each individual region of our country, prices may vary slightly:

Self-assembly of booster pump

The technology for installing a pump to increase pressure is practically no different from installing a conventional one. circulation pump. The work process consists of several successive stages:

  1. Choosing a suitable location for the pump and accumulator.
  2. Installation of a hydraulic accumulator.
  3. Installation of pipes for connection.
  4. Pump fixture.
  5. Tying the pump and accumulator.

Such a pump kit, in fact, resembles a conventional pumping station.

So, the work takes place in this order:

  • First of all, fasten household pump in the selected location, some pump models need to be mounted only horizontally, so be sure to consider this parameter.
  • Install a hydraulic accumulator.
  • Considering that the pump is mounted on the water supply, a check valve is installed immediately upon entering the house.
  • After that, a pump is connected along the line to increase the pressure.
  • Next, a cross is connected, a check valve is also mounted in the direction from the pump.
  • The remaining 3 outlets on the cross will be directed to the accumulator, the pump control relay and towards the water sources.
  • All electrical connections should be as tight as possible.
  • This system can be equipped with a stationary pressure gauge to measure the water pressure in the system.
  • An individual RCD is installed on the control system (relay).

The principle of such a connection is based on the diagram below:

It is important to take into account some of the nuances if you are doing work in private apartment. A crane must be installed at the input. Immediately before starting work, it should be blocked. When installing a booster pump, do not confuse the direction of the arrows, which should be directed away from the supply.

All connections must be as tight as possible to avoid leakage of water and pressure. Therefore, carefully pack each joint. Other details installation work you can find in the proposed video material for this article. You will learn how to install pumping equipment with automation yourself.

So, we have considered with you the issue of increasing the pressure in the water supply system from different angles. Of course, it is impossible to describe all situations. If you have other experience in this area or remembered other nuances of the work, then be sure to write comments on this article.

Video: installation features of the pump to increase pressure

Low pressure in the water supply system can infuriate not only you, but also expensive equipment. Agree, both of them just need to be protected. Such situations mainly oppress the owners of private houses, but they also happen in apartments connected to centralized networks. How to deal with them?

Pumps to increase water pressure will permanently get rid of these troubles. They will provide the operating parameters required for the normal functionality of household appliances. Compact, almost invisible devices will protect your nerves and extend the working life of the units.

The article presented to your attention details the principles of equipment selection and the rules for its installation. Those who wish to carry out the work themselves or control the hired plumbers will be helped useful diagrams. The information is supplemented by photo collections and videos.

The problem of low pressure in the water supply is solved using two types of devices: circulation and self-priming pumps. The former are simpler and easier to assemble into the system.

A conventional circulation pump consists of a rotor, an impeller mounted on it and an engine that rotates it all. Usually, if there is water in the system, but its pressure is weak, one or two pumps are enough.

The task of increasing the pressure in the water supply system is solved in two ways: by installing a circulation or centrifugal self-priming pump (click to enlarge)

But if water does not flow to the upper floors at all, you will have to put it. Such a device is simply installed as part of a plumbing system in a suitable location. The impeller spins, giving the water flow additional acceleration.

As a result, the pipes fill with water faster, providing the necessary level of pressure in the water supply. These are compact devices. low power designed to solve local problems. Suction pumps are more high performance and more complex device.

Image Gallery

In addition to the suction pump, capable of pumping water to a considerable height, the system is also equipped with a special membrane.

The work of this technique is automated, used. Water is first supplied to the storage tank, and then enters the water supply, providing the necessary characteristics within the system.

Thus, if a centrifugal pump allows you to eliminate the problem in a particular area, then suction equipment is used to regulate the entire plumbing in a house or apartment.

Self-priming booster pumps are capable of lifting liquid to a height of up to 12 m, while their capacity starts from 2 m 3 / h.

Circulation pumps tend to work "to a dead end", i.e. they do not need to be turned off even if all taps are closed and no water is taken from the system.

Inlet pumps operate in approximately the same way to increase water pressure. These devices are similar in design to circulation models.

If such a pump is turned off, water will circulate freely through its housing. As soon as power is supplied to the motor, the pump turns on.

The impeller begins to rotate and the water pressure in the system increases. When faced with a choice between automatic or manual systems, the former is usually preferred.

Comparison of the scheme of the plumbing system with and without a booster pump allows you to more accurately represent the installation procedure for such equipment

It is more convenient to use such equipment, and it lasts longer, because it does not work idle. Take the pump manual control it makes sense only in cases where it will be used either for a very short time (temporary option), or extremely rarely (in summer, in the country, only on weekends).

The diagram clearly shows the device of a pump with a wet rotor. Water washes the moving parts of the pump and absorbs excess heat

The concept of dry and wet rotor refers to information about the cooling system of the device. In the first case, it is cooled by an air stream, and in the second case, by a stream of pumped water.

A wet rotor pump is cheaper, but has a shorter life due to the negative effects of sediment that accumulates on the working parts during pumping water. Models with a dry rotor cope with their tasks more efficiently, and their service life is longer.

Rules for selecting the power of the unit

The power of the device must be commensurate with the needs of the system. Lack of pressure is bad, but too much pressure is not needed.

If a too efficient pump is selected for the water supply, the pressure in the system will increase, and all its elements will be subjected to unnecessary additional load. This leads to rapid wear and frequent breakdowns.

The water pressure in the system must not be less than two atmospheres. This is enough for comfortable water procedures, as well as for starting an automatic washing machine.

Although some models are more demanding in terms of operating conditions. For example, if the house has a shower, hydromassage, jacuzzi or other similar devices, the pressure should be higher.

In this case, it is better to increase the pressure in the plumbing system to 5-6 atmospheres. Certain types of equipment require even higher performance.

Therefore, the first step before installing a pressure boosting pump should be to study the documentation of household appliances. If any devices are planned to be purchased in the future, their characteristics also need to be taken into account.

To create a constant high pressure in the system, special pumping stations are used, including a pump and a hydraulic tank. Their work is controlled by a pressure switch.

Accurate calculations can be made by a specialist, but preliminary data made “by eye” are usually sufficient. To determine what pressure really exists in the system, you can use a regular liter jar. The water is opened and measured, how many liters of water poured out of the tap within a minute.

Then you need to deal with current needs. If the inconvenience is due to the fact that it is difficult to take a shower with an open tap in the kitchen due to low pressure, it is enough to use a conventional pump that will increase the pressure by a couple of atmospheres.

But if the house has an automatic washing machine, shower cabin or other equipment of this kind, you should study the technical documentation.

Each such consumer requires a certain pressure of water. Lack of sufficient pressure can lead to costly equipment running idle.

Household appliances, especially foreign-made ones, are not designed for such operating conditions. A failure caused by a lack of normal pressure can be considered as a case that does not comply with the warranty conditions.

You can focus on the maximum pressure in the plumbing system indicated in the device passports. In the presence of a large number such a technique should be consulted with an engineer.

When choosing a model of a water pump suitable for increasing pressure, one should also take into account the needs of equipment, the purchase of which is planned in the future.

Lack of pressure in the plumbing system can lead to premature wear and failure of expensive water heating and plumbing equipment.

Installation principles for self-priming models

Installing this type of pump is not difficult. This will require approximately the same skills and tools that are needed to install other types of pumping equipment.

Schematically, the installation of a booster pump can be represented as the following steps:

  1. Choosing a location for the accumulator and pump.
  2. Installing a hydraulic accumulator.
  3. Installation of pipes for connecting equipment to the water supply.
  4. Hanging the pump on the wall.
  5. Tying the pump and accumulator.
  6. Checking the operation of equipment in automatic mode.

In fact, the pump and accumulator with a pressure switch is a variation. To implement the installation of such a system of devices, you first need to find a place to place the tank.

Some craftsmen replace the accumulator with a membrane with a conventional large capacity, for example, a 200 liter plastic tank.

Instead of a pressure switch, the tank is equipped with a float sensor to ensure that it is automatically filled as needed. Such a tank is installed as high as possible: in the attic or on the top floor. Immediately you should think not only about the size, but also about the configuration of the container.

A flat and narrow tank will take less space than the traditional cylindrical model. Although there are no special requirements for the capacity configuration. When choosing a place for a container, access to the tank / accumulator or the possibility of easy dismantling of this element should be provided. This is necessary to complete Maintenance, repair or replace the device.

The photo shows the installation of check valves during installation plastic tank, as well as the procedure for connecting the inlet and outlet pipes to the water pipe

Supplied ready for installation, but the tank should be prepared. It has holes for water inlet and outlet.

You can also make a separate shut-off valve to drain water into emergency. Branch pipes for supplying water to the tank and taking it into the water supply system are mounted to one water pipe.

IN modern conditions for the installation of a water supply system, it is more logical to use easy-to-install and reliable plastic pipes.

To prevent air from being sucked into the tank from the pump, and also to prevent water from entering there when the equipment is turned off, both nozzles should be equipped with check valves. After that, pipes are mounted, with the help of which the tank is connected to the plumbing system.

Circulation pumps occupy a minimum of space, do not interfere with the maintenance of household appliances

After the tank or hydraulic accumulator is installed, and the laying of the necessary water pipes, you can start installing the suction pump. Usually such a device is delivered unassembled. It is first collected, and then proceed to installation.

If you decide to mount the pump on the wall, you should first make markings for fasteners. Then the pump is suspended and connected to the water supply pipes. In general, this is not a very difficult operation. Important point- the direction of the liquid in the pump. It is indicated on the case with special marks.

The pump should be installed in such a way that the movement of water is from the tank to the water points. Thus, the scheme for installing and connecting a pressure boosting pump is as follows: accumulator-pump-consumer. Then the pump is tied.

All connections must be carefully sealed. If a booster pump is connected threaded connections, you should use a suitable sealant: FUM tape, linen thread, etc.

The amount of sealant should be sufficient, but not excessive. TO plastic pipes the device is connected by means of special fittings.

After that, you should check the operation of the entire system. If a tank with a float sensor was used, it is filled with water. Check not only the operation of the sensor. container that serves storage tank should be checked for leaks. If everything is in order, you can proceed to testing the operation of the pump itself.

The pump must be connected to the electrical network. It is recommended that the pump switch lever be set to the automatic position. It remains to open the nearest water faucet and observe the operation of the device. If the installation is done correctly, the pump should automatically turn on, and the water pressure will increase noticeably.

Similarly, the installation of pressure boosting circulation pumps is carried out. For them choose appropriate place in the plumbing, and they cut it there. In this case, it is also extremely important to correctly connect the pump, taking into account the direction of fluid flow. If the position of the device is incorrect, the pump will still let the water flow through.

Scheme of connecting the circulation pump to the plumbing system. The installation of such a device is very simple, but it is important not to confuse the direction of water flow.

But his work will be extremely inefficient, since the device simply will not function. In the instructions and on the case it is indicated in detail correct position pump.

After installation, the pump is turned on in the mains and its operation is checked. If the water pressure at the nearest water intake point has increased, then the installation is done correctly.

A small pressure booster pump is simply plugged into the system. Usually for this it is enough to remove a piece of pipe of the appropriate length at the beginning of the water pipe.

Installing a system with a hydraulic accumulator looks a little more complicated. First you need to deal with the device of the entire structure.

The pump is connected to the accumulator using special hoses. Then a pressure switch is connected, with which the equipment will turn on and off.

This figure shows in detail the principle of operation of a pump with a hydraulic accumulator and how to connect it. The pump fills the tank and then turns off

Deserves special attention. Before starting work, it is recommended to carefully study the instructions and recommendations of the manufacturer.

If there is not enough knowledge and skills for high-quality installation and configuration of equipment, it is better to contact a specialist for advice or completely entrust him with all the work.

Not always a booster pump is needed to solve the problem with low water pressure in the system. To begin with, it does not hurt to diagnose the condition of the water pipes. Their cleaning or complete replacement can restore normal pressure without additional equipment.

To understand that the problem is in the poor condition of the water pipes, sometimes it is enough to ask neighbors who live in apartments on the same floor or higher.

If they have normal pressure, you almost certainly need to clean the pipes. If the picture is the same for everyone, there may be more serious problems affecting the entire plumbing system of the house and even the area.

In high-rise buildings, water sometimes simply does not flow to the upper floors. This requires high-powered and rather expensive equipment. It makes sense to cooperate with other tenants to share the costs.

Good idea- demand a solution to the problem from the organization that receives payment for water supply, since it is it that must ensure the supply of water to the consumer.

The lack of water on the upper floors is a violation of the requirements fire safety. When communicating with the water service provider, it is worth paying attention to this point and mention the possibility of litigation due to non-compliance with the law.

It is best to entrust the installation of equipment in an apartment building to a regular plumber management company. He is with the system better familiar, and will be responsible in case of leaks or breakdowns caused by poor installation of equipment.

The operation of a booster pump in an apartment of a multi-storey building is clearly shown in the following video:

Informative video on the installation of a booster pump:

Many models of booster pumps can easily be installed independently. Even a novice plumber will cope with this task without any problems. But the level of comfort with normal water pressure in the system will increase very noticeably.

Pumps to increase water pressure - a practical solution to the problem of low water pressure in the room. When water barely flows out of the tap, this not only causes tangible inconvenience to residents, but also negatively affects the operation of household appliances.

Because of weak pressure washing machines, dishwashers, boilers, etc. stop working. Faced with a similar problem, it makes sense to think about buying a pump to increase water pressure.

Good pressure indicators

The pressure of a liquid can be measured using several quantities: bar, atmospheres, meters of water column. So 1 bar equals 1.0197 atmospheres or 10.19 meters of water column. According to the standard indicators of urban water supply, the pressure in the network must be at least 4 atmospheres. But the actual numbers are not so optimistic. In most cases, enormous pressure drops are recorded that adversely affect the entire system.

An increase in pressure up to 7 atmospheres can disable even the highest quality plumbing and destroy pipe fasteners, causing a leak.

Weak pressure is also the cause of many problems. At an indicator of 2 atmospheres and below, household appliances stop working, and the owners experience tangible inconvenience.

The permissible minimum required for the operation of basic household appliances is 1.5-2.4 atmospheres. The reason for too low pressure may be a strong analysis of water or the fact that the apartment is located on the upper floors of a multi-storey building. In this case, it is recommended to use special equipment that maintains stable pressure indicators - a pump to raise the water pressure.

Equipment selection

For selection the best option pump, specify the nature of the problem - low pressure, frequent drops, high pressure.

If the flow of water from the faucet is very weak, it is necessary to install a pump that increases the water pressure. In the event of a complete lack of water on the last floors of a multi-storey building, most likely, you need to buy a self-priming pumping station.

The main parameters that should be relied upon when choosing pumping equipment

  1. Task - what the equipment is for: increase / decrease / regulate pressure.
  2. Equipment characteristics - the main indicators indicating the throughput and pressure.
  3. Manufacturing plant - the credibility of the company that produces pumps for raising the water level, reviews about it.
  4. The dimensions of the serviced area are the dimensions of the room where the pump will be installed.
  5. The financial question is the amount that you are willing to allocate for the purchase of a pump.

It will be quite difficult for an ignorant person to calculate the required performance and water pressure to select a suitable pump. If you do not have the relevant knowledge, entrust this work to a specialist. Often, when ordering equipment, firms provide this service for free.

Compact pumps

When a slight increase in pressure in the system is required (by 1-1.5 atmospheres), installing a compact pump will be enough. This is a small piece of equipment that is installed directly into the water pipe.

The price of a water pressure booster pump may vary depending on the characteristics and manufacturer. Many experts are inclined to believe that it makes no sense to overpay for such an ordinary device. It is not at all necessary to install an expensive imported high-power pump. It is better to use equipment with less power and the possibility of optimizing work. The connection of such pumps is carried out in front of the places where pipes are fastened and near household appliances.

Equipment classification

The choice of device depends on the need for the usual amplification of low pressure or the “running” of water from the lower floors of a residential building to the upper ones.

If you just need to increase the pressure, it is recommended to use a small pump with low power. If you need to raise water from the bottom up, you will need a centrifugal pump with a hydraulic accumulator. There are pumps for increasing the pressure of hot water and cold water.

Operating modes

1. Manual - uninterrupted operation of pumping equipment. To prevent overheating during operation, it is necessary to constantly monitor the indicators and turn off the pump in a timely manner. Otherwise, it may overheat and fail.

2. Automatic - regulation of the working process is carried out by a flow sensor. The pump is turned on when the water tap is turned on. That is, if no water flows, the pump is at rest. Obvious factors indicate that automatic pump increasing water pressure is much more convenient and functional than manual. It has protectors that do not allow it to turn on if the water does not flow. This guarantees the economy and durability of the device.

Cooling methods

1. Motor impeller - the blades located on the shaft cool the device. Such a mechanism with a dry rotor allows the pump to work more or less silently and significantly increases efficiency.

2. Liquid - the device is cooled by water pumped during operation. The mechanism, with the so-called wet rotor, creates practically no noise, unlike the previous version.

Pumping stations

Before deciding on the choice of a pumping station, make sure that the source of the problem of low pressure is precisely the low water pressure in the system, and not clogged pipes. Over the years, all pipes are covered from the inside limescale and mechanical particles remaining after filtration. Their volume decreases, resulting in low throughput. If this is the reason, no pumping station will solve the problem - the entire water supply system needs to be replaced. In other cases, a water pressure booster pump will help you.

With the help of a pumping station, you can raise water from a well or the lower tiers of a house. Such devices are especially popular in private residential sectors.

The station device is a centrifugal pump that increases water pressure. It is connected to a hydraulic accumulator and a relay that controls the entire system. During operation, water is pumped from the system to the storage tank. Even after an unplanned (emergency) shutdown of the pump, you can use the stored water. In the event of such a shutdown of water, the pressure will gradually decrease to a certain level. Having reached it, the relay will automatically work, turning on the pump. It is logical that the larger the volume of the water tank, the longer the pump will last, since the device will turn on and off less often.

Consumption ecology. Manor: The lack of sufficient water pressure in the system is, of course, not a disaster, but there is little pleasant in such a situation. The lack of sufficient water pressure in the system is, of course, not a disaster, but there is little pleasant in such a situation. If you wash dishes or take a shower somehow, then household appliances, such as a washing machine or dishwasher, may simply refuse to work. Luckily, water pressure pumps have been invented to solve these kinds of problems.

How it works

The problem of low pressure in the water supply is solved using two types of devices: circulation and self-priming pumps. The former are simpler and easier to install into the system. A conventional circulation pump consists of a rotor, an impeller mounted on it and an engine that rotates it all. Usually, if there is water in the system, but its pressure is weak, one or two pumps are enough.

The task of increasing the pressure in the water supply system is solved in two ways: by installing a circulation or centrifugal self-priming pump

But if water does not flow to the upper floors at all, you will have to install a high-power pumping station with a hydraulic tank. Such a device is simply installed as part of a plumbing system in a suitable location. The impeller spins, giving the water flow additional acceleration.

As a result, the pipes fill with water faster, providing the necessary level of pressure in the water supply. These are compact low power devices designed to solve local problems. Suction pumps are characterized by higher performance and more complex device.

In addition to a suction pump capable of pumping water to a considerable height, the system is also equipped with a hydraulic accumulator equipped with a special membrane. The operation of this technique is automated, a pressure switch is used. Water is first supplied to the storage tank, and then enters the water supply, providing the necessary characteristics within the system.

Thus, if a centrifugal pump allows you to eliminate the problem in a particular area, then suction equipment is used to regulate the entire plumbing in a house or apartment. Self-priming booster pumps are capable of lifting liquid to a height of up to 12 m, while their power starts from 2 kW / h.

The booster pump works as follows. When the water flow reaches 1.5 cubic meters, the motion sensor petal changes position. It leads to automatic start pump. When the water flow stops, the pump turns off. This type of equipment is used both in private cottages and in apartment buildings.

It is especially relevant in high-rise residential buildings, where to ensure the normal delivery of water to the upper floors without a special pump through different reasons impossible. Installing a single pump or even a special station with increased power can be a real salvation for residents of the upper floors.

Sometimes you have to use not one booster pump, but two or more. Such a need is sometimes faced by owners of houses in which the plumbing system was originally designed with errors. In this case, you will have to calculate the cost of reworking the water supply (if such a possibility exists at all) and the cost of installing additional equipment.

A small pumping station installed in front of household appliances will ensure a normal supply of water

It should be remembered that special types of equipment are intended for pumping hot water. They are made of special heat-resistant materials, so they are more expensive than more simple models designed for contact with cold water only. There are also universal booster pumps that are suitable for both cold and hot water.

The power of a conventional circulation pump is small, it consumes less energy than some incandescent lamps. When it is included in the system, it is possible to achieve an increase in pressure by about 2-3 atmospheres. If more serious correction of characteristics is required, more powerful equipment should be preferred.

It makes sense to take a manual pump only in cases where it will be used either for a very short time (temporary option) or extremely rarely (in summer, in the country, only on weekends).

The diagram clearly shows the device of a pump with a wet rotor. Water washes the moving parts of the pump and absorbs excess heat

The concept of dry and wet rotor refers to information about the cooling system of the device. In the first case, it is cooled by the air flow, and in the second - by the flow of pumped water. A wet rotor pump is cheaper, but has a shorter life due to the negative effects of sediment that accumulates on the working parts during pumping water. Models with a dry rotor cope with their tasks more efficiently, and their service life is longer.

Pump power and system requirements

But if the house has an automatic washing machine, shower or other equipment of this kind, you should study the technical documentation.

In the presence of a large number of such equipment, it is worth contacting an engineer for advice. When choosing a model of a water pump suitable for increasing pressure, one should also take into account the needs of equipment, the purchase of which is planned in the future.

How to install a self-priming pump

Installing this type of pump is not difficult. This will require approximately the same skills and tools that are needed to install other types of pumping equipment. Schematically, the installation of a booster pump can be represented as the following steps:

  • Choosing a location for the accumulator and pump.
  • Installing a hydraulic accumulator.
  • Installation of pipes for connecting equipment to the water supply.
  • Hanging the pump on the wall.
  • Tying the pump and accumulator.
  • Checking the operation of equipment in automatic mode.

In fact, a pump and a hydraulic accumulator with a pressure switch is a variation of a pumping station.

The flat and narrow tank will take up less space than a traditional cylindrical model. Although there are no special requirements for the capacity configuration. When choosing a place for a container, access to the tank / accumulator or the possibility of easy dismantling of this element should be provided. This is necessary to perform maintenance, repair or replacement of the device.

The photo shows the installation of check valves when installing a plastic tank, as well as the procedure for connecting the inlet and outlet pipes to the water pipe

Hydraulic accumulators are supplied ready for installation, but the tank should be prepared. It has holes for water inlet and outlet. You can also make a separate shut-off valve to drain water in an emergency. Branch pipes for supplying water to the tank and taking it into the water supply system are mounted to one water pipe.

In modern conditions, for the installation of water supply, it is more logical to use easy-to-install and reliable plastic pipes. To prevent air from being sucked into the tank from the pump, and also to prevent water from entering there when the equipment is turned off, check valves should be installed on both pipes. After that, pipes are mounted, with the help of which the tank is connected to the plumbing system.

Circulation pumps occupy a minimum of space, do not interfere with the maintenance of household appliances

After the tank or accumulator is installed, and the necessary water pipes are laid, the installation of the suction pump can begin. Usually such a device is delivered unassembled. It is first collected, and then proceed to installation.

If you decide to mount the pump on the wall, you should first make markings for fasteners. Then the pump is suspended and connected to the water supply pipes. In general, this is not a very difficult operation. An important point is the direction of the liquid in the pump.

If threaded connections are used to connect the booster pump, a suitable seal should be used: FUM tape, linen thread, etc. The amount of sealant should be sufficient, but not excessive. The device is connected to plastic pipes using special fittings.

After that, you should check the operation of the entire system. If a tank with a float sensor was used, it is filled with water. Check not only the operation of the sensor. The container that serves as a storage tank should be checked for leaks. If everything is in order, you can proceed to testing the operation of the pump itself.

The pump must be connected to the electrical network. It is recommended that the pump switch lever be set to the automatic position. It remains to open the nearest water tap and observe the operation of the device. If the installation is done correctly, the pump should automatically turn on, and the water pressure will increase noticeably.

Similarly, the installation of pressure boosting circulation pumps is carried out. For them, they choose a suitable place in the water supply, and cut it there.

The instructions and on the housing detail the correct position of the pump.

The setting of such a relay deserves special attention.

It is a good idea to demand that the organization that receives the payment for the water supply solve the problem, since it is they who must ensure the supply of water to the consumer.

The lack of water on the upper floors is a violation of fire safety requirements. When communicating with the water service provider, it is worth paying attention to this point and mention the possibility of litigation due to non-compliance with the law.

It is best to entrust the installation of equipment in an apartment building to a full-time plumber of the management company. He is also more familiar with the system, and will be held responsible in case of leaks or breakdowns caused by poor-quality installation of equipment.
