Small bathroom design with shower corner. Interior design of a bathroom with a shower - advice from the best designers

Many of us live in houses where the bathroom is separate, but there is nothing more good to say about it. Here in the toilet you rest your knees against the door, and in the bathroom you have to choose between the sink and the washing machine.

The only rational solution in this case is to combine the toilet and bathtub into a combined bathroom, when two tiny rooms turn into one larger one. True, many believe that even a combination will not allow increasing the free space in the bathroom and placing all the necessary objects and things in it.

We want to prove the opposite using several ways to design a combined bathroom. They generally require not only imagination, but also financial capabilities, but the result is definitely worth it. We offer some design ideas for a combined bathroom in your apartment.

Design of a combined bathroom

The main way to increase space in a small combined bathroom is to replace the bathtub with a shower. There are many different options in shower enclosure configurations, sizes and designs.

So, for example, you can buy a regular cabin with a tray, or you can make the tray yourself, laying it with the same tiles as the walls - this will make the bathroom visually more spacious. You can also choose the depth of the tray: some people like shallow trays, while others like deep ones. I would just like to note that shower cabins with deep trays are more practical, as they can also act as a small bathtub.

Tiles in a combined bathroom

The bathroom is the place where a person begins a new day and ends the outgoing one.

Therefore, it is especially important here to create a beautiful, harmonious interior in which you can relax in the evening and get ready for an active day in the morning.

For these purposes, it is important to choose the right finishing materials, in particular tiles. For example, the fap meltin collection seems to have been created to bring harmony into the room. Soft, pastel colors, interesting, unusual texture, plus excellent quality - these are the three components of the reason for the enormous popularity of this product.

In terms of color and size, it is better to choose the option that will allow you to create successful combinations with other types of finishes and accessories. Today, among the huge variety ceramic tiles you can find a rather interesting pattern and color scheme. Also, do not ignore the large diverse collections of tiles. From the presented options of one type, you can put together a wonderful original combination.

You can also use mosaics and stained glass as decoration. These inserts will give the interior a special sophistication, freshness, and liveliness. And they will help you achieve exactly that uniqueness and originality that you want to see and feel in your own bathroom.

The interior of the bathroom should not stand out from general style the entire house or apartment, but in this room it is better not to make bright accents, to emphasize the details. It is very important to correctly measure the size of the bathroom and interior items. That is, in a small bathroom there is no need to install a large washbasin, and, on the contrary, for a room of impressive size it is better to select more massive furniture and plumbing fixtures so that the room does not seem empty and uninhabited.

Shower cabins

When designing a combined bathroom with shower, you should take into account that there are cabins various types: with doors that open into the cabin, and with sliding compartment or accordion doors. Here it all depends on the preferences and build of the owners, since ordinary doors may be inconvenient for large people. Creating rooms with a shower cabin and a washing machine Please note that the transparent walls of the cabins do not “cut” or delimit the space, but matte options are more practical in everyday life.

Very stylish and modern version The design of a combined bathroom with a shower stall is to create an open shower area without trays, and sometimes without partitions - the so-called wet room. To do this, it is necessary that the floor level in the shower area is lower than in the rest of the room.

For those who cannot refuse a bath even in a small room, we recommend that you turn your attention to smaller bathtubs or irregular shape, which will seem to repeat the outlines of the room itself and surrounding objects.

Sink and toilet ideas

It's not just the bathtub that can have a non-standard shape - today corner sinks and toilets are very common, which are especially suitable for irregularly shaped rooms. There are also sinks of completely unusual configurations, which seem to form a single whole with the bathroom, saving space.

One of the basic rules for visually increasing space is the following: the larger the visible floor area, the more spacious the room appears. Therefore, we advise owners of small bathrooms to pay attention to cantilever toilets and sinks, which are attached to the wall at a certain height from the floor, so they look more elegant and seem to “float” in the air.

By the way, even in a combined bathroom, with the appropriate layout, you can symbolically separate the toilet from other objects. This can be done with the help of a decorative partition or with the help of more useful objects: a light and high rack or a heated towel rail.

Sink in the bathroom

Separately, it should be said about the sink area, which must be used. Firstly, you can surround it with a tabletop, and hang a cabinet with a mirror above it. It is also worth using the space under it by placing a cabinet there. It is worth remembering that the bathroom will look visually more spacious with light open structures under the sink.

Washing machine in the bathroom

It is much more convenient and logical when the washing machine is in the bathroom, and not in the kitchen or in the hallway. However, in a small, and even more so in a combined bathroom, you need to try very hard when placing a washing machine.

It will be easiest if you have an option with a shower. Here you can place the washing machine in any free corner, combine it with the sink under a single countertop, closing it with a door if necessary, or place it near the shower in the resulting niche. By the way, it’s never too late to pay attention to top-loading models or shallow washing machines.

But those who have to choose between a sink and a washing machine will clearly like the option of placing the “washing machine” directly under the washbasin.

Shelves and cabinets in the bathroom

Not a single bathroom can be completely freed from a variety of necessary things: towels, cosmetics, household chemicals etc. And to place all these items in small bathroom, need to think carefully though different ways, of course there is.

Naturally, first of all, these are a variety of shelves: hanging open shelves or cabinets, small floor racks, niches in the walls. Please note that it is open shelves that visually increase the space, but if you still want to close them, it is better to choose sliding doors that will save space.

An area of 6 square meters in the bathroom will allow you to place in the room everything you need for comfortable hygiene procedures. Typically, bathrooms of this size are found in a private house; in apartments, the bathroom area is much smaller. For those who prefer to have more free space in the bathroom, the option of installing a shower cabin without a stationary bath is suitable. The main thing is to create an attractive design for the shower room so that it is cozy and beautiful.

Shower cabin instead of bath

Ergonomic modern bathrooms only benefit from installing a shower stall over a bulky bathtub. Wherein the best option is corner model, which looks attractive and additionally saves space. Creation shower corner- most practical option for small bathrooms. This is due to the fact that during its installation there is no need to install side walls - their role is played by the walls.

If you refuse a bath, the room can additionally be equipped with the following plumbing fixtures:

  • A bidet will solve the problems of carrying out hygiene procedures in the absence of a bath. Most convenient hanging option, which occupies a minimum area;
  • In a separate bathroom in the shower room, it is advisable to install two sinks. This will save a lot of time when washing your family in the morning;
  • the second shower is installed for the same purpose as the second sink. However, this can only be done if there is large pallet for taking a shower.

It is important to pay attention to the distance between plumbing fixtures. The shower room must have enough free space, otherwise no design will save the room from being cramped. There must be at least 75 cm of space in front of the doors of the shower stall or corner when open. The minimum distance between the door and the cabin body is 15 cm. There must be at least 30 cm of space between the toilet, bidet, sink, and shower.

Design style

When decorating a shower room measuring 6 square meters, you can use different styles and interior design options. The most current styles are minimalism, hi-tech or modern, because most shower cabins look ultra-modern. But if you wish, you can bring any idea to life:

  • rustic country style or chalet with wood finish - a suitable interior for a private home;
  • decoration in Provence style will create a cozy romantic atmosphere;
  • The loft style is somewhat reminiscent of modern high-tech and involves partially decorating the interior as an industrial space.

Decorating a shower room in Provence style

It is better not to use styles such as classic, empire, baroque or art deco, since creating such an interior requires a large area. Even in a private house with a shower room of 6 sq.m., a classic finish requires a bathtub, as well as big sizes premises. In a small shower room, rich classic finishes look unpresentable.

Choosing a color

Due to the fact that a bathroom with an area of 6 square meters is considered quite spacious, the finishing can be done in any color you like:

  • Light shades create a cozy and calm atmosphere in the home. Many people do not like white because it is “sterile” and because it resembles the walls of an operating room or treatment room. In this case, it is quite possible to use all shades of beige or any other pastel colors. Finishing in light colors good because it can be combined with any plumbing fixtures and furniture;
  • the use of blue and blue colors in the bathroom interior is fully justified by the fact that the water element is dominant here. The main thing is not to overdo it with decor in the form of shells and images of sea creatures. The most advantageous option for a “marine” finish is blue mosaic in combination with white sanitary ware;
  • classic combination of black and white flowers looks strict, but aesthetically pleasing. Usually the walls and ceilings are finished in white, and the floors are black, which creates visual increase volume of the room. If you use black and white ceramic tiles for horizontal and vertical surfaces, the boundaries between the walls and floor will be erased. White plumbing and black doors will perfectly complement the interior;
  • finishing a shower in dark colors is a rarity due to the fact that such colors visually reduce the area of the bathroom in the house. Also, dark walls and floors require maintenance, as any dirt and splashes are very visible on them.

When choosing a finishing color, give preference to neutral tones; bright colors quickly become boring.

Decor elements

In any bathroom or shower room, a mirror is a must-have piece of furniture. It can be used not only as a practical item, but also as a room decoration. The style of the mirror frame should be completely consistent with the rest of the design. An original solution is to place several on the wall small mirrors. A large mirror visually increases the area of the shower room. Mirror cabinets are popular, which perform two functions at once - they reflect objects and are a place to store toiletries.

Textiles can also be an excellent decor for the bathroom. Colored towels and a rug will diversify the interior, making it brighter and more comfortable. Bright accents look especially relevant in combination with basic beige or black and white colors.

Surprisingly, plumbing fixtures can also look unusual and decorate with their own appearance room. Firstly, toilets and sinks today can be found in absolutely any color. Secondly, many companies specialize in producing plumbing fixtures of unusual shapes, which in itself attracts attention and makes the interior special.

Decoration Materials

For the shower room it is necessary to use finishing materials that are resistant to moisture. However, 6 square meters is an area sufficient to protect part of the room from direct water falling on the walls and floor. That's why the choice is quite wide.

Tile

Ceramic tile. This is a classic for covering walls and floors in the bathroom. It is used both in apartments and in private houses. The tile has high resistance to mechanical damage and exposure to water, it is easy to care for, it is durable and relatively inexpensive. Ceramic tiles are an environmentally friendly material, which again speaks in its favor. A wide choose colors will allow you to decorate the interior in an original way. Using tiles, you can lay out a picture, pattern or ornament, imitate masonry or wooden surface.

Mosaic tiles. This option has all the advantages of ceramic tiles, but has one significant drawback - the high cost of the material. But due to its small size, mosaic can be used to decorate “complex” surfaces - semicircular corners, wavy walls, and so on. By combining ceramic and mosaic tiles you can create an original interior.

Panels

Plastic panels. This material is becoming increasingly widespread due to its undeniable advantages: low cost, large assortment of colors and textures, moisture resistance, ease of installation. If, when choosing tiles or mosaics, you need to add the cost of masonry to the costs, then plastic panels install independently without much effort. However, lovers of environmentally friendly products and materials do not always like plastic.

Relief wall panels. To decorate the bathroom, relief panels are used extremely rarely due to the difficulty of maintenance. A textured or wavy surface is much more difficult to clean than a smooth one. They look original and presentable, despite the very affordable price.

Advantages and disadvantages for different types of finishes

If the part of the bathroom where the shower is installed is finished only with tiles or panels, then the rest of the room can be decorated in other ways:

  • moisture resistant plaster: decorative plaster– a relatively new word in bathroom renovation, this material will allow you to create an unusual interior. It can be used to decorate walls, leaving them smooth or giving them relief;
  • moisture-resistant paint: this material is affordable and combines well with ceramic tiles;
  • vinyl wallpaper: has moisture-resistant properties and allows you to give the bathroom an unusually cozy atmosphere.

To finish the ceiling, stretch fabric, plastic and metal panels, and paint are used. The floors are laid with ceramic tiles or more durable porcelain stoneware.

Secrets of creating a beautiful interior

If you want to visually enlarge the room, use the following features in the interior:

  • more glossy surfaces. This applies not only to walls and ceilings, but also to plumbing fixtures and furniture;
  • transparent doors on the cabinets on the front side of the shower;
  • minimum dimensions of plumbing fixtures. For the toilet, sink, bidet, use installations;
  • hanging and built-in cabinets located under or above the sink, as well as above the washing machine, toilet;
  • diagonal pattern on tiles. It is not necessary to choose a tile with a pattern; it is enough to lay it diagonally, which also expands the space;
  • bright lighting. If there are no dark corners in your shower room, it will appear much larger.

Using these little tricks, you will create stylish interior shower room in your home.

The bathroom is a special place in the apartment, which simultaneously performs sanitary and hygienic functions and serves as a place of solitude and relaxation, which is so necessary to modern man living with constant stress. It should be comfortable, functional and easy to maintain.

Given the frantic pace of life, many designers suggest abandoning the installation of a bulky, awkward, and often unnecessary bathtub in favor of a more convenient shower stall. To make it more stylish, you can use option c, which from a design point of view is a better solution.

Device

A shower without a tray is a special type of plumbing equipment that differs from standard “dead” shower stalls. The peculiarity of this method of arranging a shower is that it does not require the installation of a tray where the water is heated. It consists of the following elements:

Note! The shower is not separated from the rest of the bathroom by a threshold; usually the floor in the room has the same level. However, so that water does not accumulate on the surface, forming puddles, but is immediately drained, it is necessary to tilt the floor towards the drain hole.

Design

The design of a bathroom with a shower without a tray looks very modern; it allows you to keep the space of the bathroom united, indivisible, which makes it visually more spacious and larger. However, this method of arranging a washing area is technically more complex than installing a conventional stationary booth. Often, shortcomings made when designing a shower with this design become the cause of leaks. To avoid problems when using the bathroom, the following aspects must be taken into account:

Important! The shower cabin is connected to the central sewerage and water supply networks; it is better to entrust the installation to an experienced plumber, who will take into account all possible nuances and will not make mistakes that usually lead to leakage.

Advantages of a shower without a tray

A shower without a tray can be installed both in a private house and in an ordinary city apartment, and the size of the bathroom is not at all important. This is a universal design solution that emphasizes the style, originality and modernity of the interior. In addition to high aesthetic properties, a shower cabin with this design has the following advantages:

Please note that a shower integrated into the bathroom space without a tray is undoubtedly the highlight of any interior, helping to achieve a solid, unified and very organic image.

Flaws

However, there are also disadvantages to such a design solution as a shower cabin without a tray. They need to be taken into account when designing the system and creating a bathroom design project. Typically, experienced plumbers ask you to pay attention to the following nuances:

All the shortcomings of a shower cabin without a tray can be eliminated or minimized with the help of a competent design project, high-quality installation and correct connection systems to central networks.

Design Features

Using ceramic tiles and glass enclosures, you can give your outdoor shower stall almost any look to fit into any space. Due to the fact that glass transmits light well, the bathroom space looks whole, indivisible, and becomes visually larger. The floor under the shower can be highlighted with a different color tile or mosaic to visually separate it from other areas. Or you can cover the floor with the same tiles, so that after drying it becomes a single space with the bathroom. The degree of privacy can be adjusted using glass barriers:

An interesting design move - use for enclosing a shower stall open type stained glass It allows you to create a whimsical play of light in the bathroom interior, while providing a high degree of privacy while washing.

Video instruction

Undoubtedly, the main advantage of a shower cabin is saving space. It can be placed in a corner and fill the freed space with the necessary furniture. However, such a rational approach does not exclude the aesthetic component of the issue. The interior of a bathroom combined with a shower is an excellent basis for implementing the most non-standard design solutions.

Cabin or corner?

  • A shower cabin is a “box” with a tray (usually acrylic), two walls, a sliding door and a ceiling with a watering can built into it.

The cabin is sealed, so it can be installed almost anywhere without additional waterproofing of walls and floors.

  • A shower corner most often has glass or plastic partition doors on both sides, while the back walls remain open, so choosing a shower corner means additional waterproofing work.

To suit your taste, you can install a deep or low tray, or choose stylish option shower without it at all, by installing the drain directly into the floor tiles or making a low restrictive border.

In any case, you can decorate the interior of a bathroom with a shower in different ways. What to choose?

Arguments FOR a shower enclosure

  • For lovers of open spaces, a shower corner is more suitable: it has more space, there is no feeling of constraint or enclosed space.

You can safely adjust its dimensions: in a wide range of hardware stores you can easily choose a tray and doors that suit you. The shower corner will fit perfectly into loft, hi-tech and other “industrial” styles.

  • A shower corner can become a stylish feature in your bathroom.

Doors made of frosted, ornamented, textured or colored glass, finishing with contrasting tiles, a drain built into the floor, wooden floor grates - the touches of a modern urban home will resonate with those who love stylish details.

Arguments FOR a shower stall

  • The shower cabin, in turn, will fit perfectly into the interior of the smallest bathroom: the dimensions of the most compact models are only 80x80 cm.

Such a cabin will fit neatly into a corner, leaving free space for washing machine, sinks or storage cabinets.

  • You can easily install the cabin after you have completed the design of the restroom.

The existing interior of the bathroom with the installation of a shower cabin will not be disturbed or stylistically distorted.

  • A huge advantage is the fact that installing a shower cabin does not require extra work for waterproofing, it also does not require installing a pallet or laying tiles.

And additional built-in technical gadgets (Turkish bath, Charcot shower, various modes of the ceiling shower) will be a pleasant bonus for those who like to pamper themselves. A nightly home spa before bed is a good reason to opt for a walk-in shower, isn't it?

Materials

Mosaic and tiles

Shower corner space - place increased dampness and deposits of lime and waterstone. Therefore, tiles or mosaics are an ideal material for design. It has dirt- and water-repellent properties, it is sealed and easy to care for. IN construction stores There is a huge range of tiles from tiles, porcelain stoneware, different sizes, textures and colors.

Textured plaster

For lovers of non-standard solutions and new technologies, textured plaster is perfect: certain types and brands of plaster have water-repellent properties and are suitable for rooms with high humidity. As a rule, such plasters contain granite or marble chips.

Plastic panels

Plastic panels are also suitable for finishing the area near the shower stall. They can imitate the natural texture of wood or stone, and any image or print can be applied to it. They are wear-resistant and have good water-repellent properties.

Colors and textures

  • To prevent the shower stall from looking bulky and visually filling the entire interior, choose stalls with transparent doors and back panels that match the bathroom walls.

Shower enclosures are also great: glass or frosted doors and finishes that match the main walls will help create the illusion of more space.

  • Having made a choice in favor of monochrome, you can safely mix textures.

Floor and wall tiles can differ in prints or the size of the same print, texture, and combine matte and shiny surfaces. Color will be responsible for stylistic unity here - it is this color that will maintain the integrity of the interior of the bathroom with shower.

  • Combining several shades of tiles or wall panels You can visually divide the room into zones.

If the shower corner is not located in the corner of the bathroom, but in a niche, it can be decorated with darker tiles or a mosaic pattern. This, on the contrary, will add volume to the room and harmonize the interior of the bathroom combined with a shower.

How to decorate a bathroom with a shower installed in it? This question often arises both among owners of private houses and among residents of standard city apartments. But in own home Bathrooms are usually spacious, and therefore arranging all the necessary accessories in them is much easier than in a cramped combined bathroom, as well as coming up with a design and finishing. Unfortunately, on the Internet you can most often find sketches and designs for premises, the vast area of which remains a pipe dream for most apartment owners.

A small bathroom with a shower stall, the design for which is much more difficult to come up with, is almost not discussed. But various engineering communications also pass through this room, requiring a certain camouflage, which also complicates the design process.

It is about bathrooms with a shower stall, organized in small areas, about the possible difficulties of their design, taking into account certain nuances, that will be discussed in this publication.

In order for the finished bathroom, fully equipped with all the necessary accessories and finished, to look as originally intended by the owners, preparatory measures must be carried out that will streamline all further stages of work.

Drafting

First of all, a project is drawn up for the bathroom, in which the bath will be replaced with a shower. Usually this process aims to make the room more spacious or combine the bathroom with the toilet, so that, if possible, even expand the kitchen or hallway, depending on the layout of the apartment.

The main task of design is to be able to fit everything you need into a limited area

When developing a preliminary project, you need to remember that it is quite possible that adjustments will have to be made to it in the future after all communication pipes are opened. Masking boxes may be added to the sketch, since, depending on the project, there may be a need to relocate and extend water and sewer pipes.

Preparing the premises

Having thought through and completed on paper an approximate “layout” of the location of all items, you can move on to the next stage of work. It can be carried out in different ways:

  • Removing all old bathroom accessories.
  • Dismantling the partition between the bathroom and toilet, if it is decided to combine them into one room. This process should be carried out only after agreement with regulatory authorities.

Next, after dismantling all the elements, you need to get rid of the debris and thoroughly clean the walls and floor of dust. If the walls are tiled or finished with other decorative materials, they also need to be removed immediately.

If it is decided not to move the toilet, but to leave it in its original place, then it is recommended to dismantle it last. If you can live without a bathroom for some time, then it will be much more difficult to do without a toilet.

Planning and installation of utilities

When the room is free of everything superfluous and unnecessary, it becomes possible to freely inspect the condition of the old pipes and, based on the bathroom design, think about how best to lay out the pipes by making the appropriate drawing.

If the renovation is carried out only in the bathroom, and sewer riser remains in the toilet, it is recommended to hide both the water supply and drainage pipes in the walls. To do this, grooves are cut into which communications are installed - this will also help save some of the space.

In addition, it is recommended to install at least one socket in the bathroom, since very often this element is not enough to turn on a hairdryer. It may also be needed for a washing machine if it is planned to be installed in this room. The electrical cable also needs to be hidden in the wall, first enclosed in a corrugated tube, and the socket itself must be purchased with a special one, with increased moisture protection.

After all the pipes and cables have been installed, the grooves are sealed with cement-sand or gypsum plaster mortar.

If the bathroom is combined, then all water supply and sewerage communications are usually combined and compactly mounted near the central sewer riser. It will still not be possible to move it, so the entire communication node can be disguised at once with a plasterboard box.

Particular attention is paid to the method of connecting the shower stall itself to the sewer riser. Some pallets have a very low drain pipe, so to connect it to the waste pipe you will have to either bury it in the floor or raise the booth itself to the required height. The pallet is raised using special adjustable legs, or a brick pedestal is laid out on which the shower stall is installed.

If the bathroom is combined and a shower cabin is installed instead of a bathtub, then some prefer not to install a box, which can spoil the interior design, but to install a masking wall made of plasterboard with an elegant shutter door. This option is especially suitable when, when combining a bathroom and toilet, the central sewer pipe ends up in the middle of the rear wall of the room.

Must be left viewing window— for free access of utility workers to pipes, valves and meters. Well, an elegant door will cover the entire interweaving of pipes, so the door should be selected last, to match all the existing finishing.

It is also necessary to take into account that the inspection window must open freely, which means it cannot be blocked by any bathroom accessory.

In order to create such a wall or box, you will need to purchase a special galvanized metal profile and moisture-resistant drywall.

It is recommended that before starting installation of the frame, you need to think carefully, and best of all, even draw the location of each of its elements so that the structure is strong, and the window for access to the pipes is of sufficient size and located in a convenient location.

Waterproofing bathroom surfaces

Even before installing the masking box, after sealing the grooves and removing debris from the room, the floor must be covered with waterproofing. This must be done especially carefully around all pipes of any purpose passing through the ceilings (feed-through sleeves).

When waterproofing, pay special attention to corners and pipe passages

It is very important to waterproof the joints of walls and floors well, covering the walls with the composition to a height of no less than 120÷150 mm, and in places where plumbing fixtures are installed, even above the level of connection points (plumbing “sockets”). In these places, a special sealing tape must be glued, and only after these strips have dried, it is necessary to cover the entire surface of the floor with a waterproofing compound.

The future bathroom is completely waterproofed

Waterproofing will save apartment owners from unnecessary troubles if emergency situation, from which, unfortunately, it is impossible to completely insure yourself. Water spilled on the floor surface will not flow to neighbors living on the lower floors. To prevent water from leaving the bathroom, the door must be equipped with a threshold, which also needs to be waterproofed.

Waterproofing the bathroom floor – the most important stage renovation!

There are several types of materials used for these purposes. A special publication on our portal will help you understand their diversity, choose the most optimal one and become familiar with the main technological methods of implementation.

How to choose a shower stall

Having prepared the room for the installation of all the necessary accessories, you can start choosing the purchase of a shower stall. In order not to be mistaken with the dimensions, you must first take accurate measurements of the area where the cabin is planned to be installed, and accurately determine the area that can be allocated for it.

Moreover, if you plan to purchase a booth, even if it has an almost triangular shape in plan with a small semicircular protrusion, then you should still take a square as a basis. The model you like in the store should be measured there from all sides, so that at home you can transfer these dimensions to the place for installing the cabin.

Prices for River shower enclosure

River shower corner

Currently, the assortment of specialty stores offers a variety of shower stalls - from the simplest to those equipped with numerous additional options. Naturally, their prices also vary greatly. In addition, they can be different types, shapes made from various materials.

Shower stalls are mainly divided into two types based on their basic design - open and closed. What they are should be of interest first of all.

Open showers

Open showers are those that are limited by side walls but do not have a ceiling.

There can be two or three walls in the booths of open models; they can be installed in the front part of the structure and against the walls. In addition, there are options that have only front walls, which are attached to a frame mounted on the wall.

Such cabin models are considered economy-class products, since they are generally equipped with only a basic set of functions. They are often also called “shower enclosures”. Cabins without rear walls, require enhanced sealing at the junction of the pallet with the wall, the same as when installing a conventional bathtub.

The absence of some additional functions is also explained by the fact that they will be useless in a structure of this type, since it does not have a ceiling, and, for example, “aromatherapy” or “sauna” will be effective only in an enclosed space.

Open booths are produced that can be installed without a pallet, but such models should still not be installed in high-rise apartments, since even if high-quality waterproofing is done, there is a possibility of flooding in the lower floor apartments.

In addition, the floor will have to be raised with a screed by at least 70 ÷ 80 mm in order to lay the waste pipe in this layer and mount the drain. Such a screed, even without taking into account it’s all the same necessary finishing floor, will significantly increase the weight of the floor structure, which can be extremely dangerous, especially for old houses.

It is not advisable to purchase a booth with a tray that has low sides, as this can also lead to flooding of the lower floors.

The only way to correct the situation (except for the screed) is to install the pallet in a well-waterproofed podium, which is usually made of brick. It is already possible to hide the drain pipe in it and lead it to the sewer, observing the obligatory slope of 2 - 3 degrees.

It is better to use such options for bathrooms of private houses, when the water from the pan is immediately drained into the sewer pipe.

Closed cabins

Closed type showers are otherwise called boxes. They differ from shower enclosures in that they have a tray, walls on all sides and a roof. Such cubicle cabins can be equipped with only the main function - a shower, or be multifunctional.

They are given a variety of shapes - in plan they can be a rectangle, circle, semicircle, triangle, etc. Their dimensions along the perimeter or diameter depend on the parameters of the pallets, which, in turn, can also differ in height and material of manufacture.

Bath with shower

Another option that will take up not much more space in the room than a regular bathtub. This is a whole complex that allows you to lie in hot water and relax or invigorate with a shower.

“Symbiosis” of bath and shower

This compact accessory is produced in different variations, and can be equipped only with a shower or have many other functions, including original lighting and even the ability to listen to music.

Sometimes such a cabin can have a rectangular shape, like a regular bath. There are also corner options, but they will require more space than a standard accessory.

Homemade shower cabins

Such a shower cabin can be built by the apartment owner himself, but it would still be better to purchase a ready-made shower tray. Of course, you can fold it yourself, but you shouldn’t load the ceiling - it’s enough to make a podium around the perimeter from brick.

Two walls or one, as planned by the designer, can be made of brick and covered with tiles or built from glass blocks.

The size of a homemade shower stall will depend on which tray is suitable for a particular room.

On sale you can find glass blocks of different colors and textured patterns, so you can choose them to suit every taste. These elements are also quite easy to install - the main thing is to constantly monitor the verticality of the masonry.

All that’s left to do is build a partition

Installing walls in a bathroom is almost the same as erecting partitions from different materials, including glass blocks. How - read in a special publication of the portal.

Shower trays

As mentioned above, the tray determines the shape of the shower stall. It can be square, rectangular, triangular, oval, or have an asymmetrical shape. Another defining parameter of this element in the cabin design is depth. Pallets can be deep - up to 450 mm, shallow - from 100 to 180 mm, and flat, only 30 mm deep.

Typically, pallets are equipped with an anti-slip textured coating. They are selected according to color, which should be in perfect harmony with all the accessories of the cabin or with color scheme interior design of walls, floors and ceilings.

Pallets are made from different materials - it can be cast iron, steel or acrylic.

  • Cast iron enameled pallets are highly reliable and can be installed on a steel frame or a brick podium. They are perfect for homemade shower stalls.

  • Steel pallets are also coated with enamel, but they are less durable because they have thin walls. When installing them on a frame or an empty podium inside while taking a shower, the sound of falling water will be very loud. Therefore, in such cases, it is recommended to cover the back side of the pallet with polyurethane foam, which will create a noise-absorbing layer. Steel pallets are less durable than cast iron, but if handled carefully they will last at least 10–12 years.

Steel pallets are inexpensive and quite practical with careful care

  • Acrylic pallets in Lately have become the most popular, since this material is characterized by good hygiene, pleasant and quite warm to the touch. The acrylic tray is lightweight and quite durable if installed properly. When scratches appear on it, they are easily rubbed out sandpaper fine grain.

The shallow tray is mounted in a special frame. If this option is chosen for a homemade shower stall, then a podium must be installed for it, exactly according to the shape of the bottom.

Some trays can also be used as a shallow bathtub. In such varieties it will be necessary to install a “drain-overflow” system.

  • You can also build a homemade pallet if it is small around the perimeter and in height, that is, it will not overload the ceiling. For cladding it is recommended to use mosaic tiles, as it will create a non-slip surface.

When embedding a sewer pipe into a homemade pan, you must remember that it must be located at a slope of at least 2 ÷ 3 degrees.

Shower walls and doors

These protective elements shower cabins are made of impact-resistant glass or acrylic. Acrylic walls and doors can have varying degrees of transparency and vary in color, but glass is easier to clean, since water does not linger on it and quickly drains without leaving marks. In addition, it does not become cloudy over time, unlike clear acrylic panels.

Doors in the shower can be hinged or sliding, consisting of two or four leaves. Sliding type doors have a higher degree of tightness in the closed position. The doors move using rollers and do not require extra space to open them.

Prices for popular shower cabins

When choosing a cabin with swing structure doors, you will need to think in advance about installing other accessories in the bathroom, since they should not interfere with the doors, otherwise they can be accidentally damaged.

Additional functions of shower cabins

A few words need to be said about the additional functions of shower cabins, since some of them are also reflected in the interior design.

  • Backlight. The finished shower cabin can be equipped with lighting, which is carried out using special waterproof lighting fixtures. This feature allows you to shower without turning on the main lighting in the bathroom. In addition, specially designed lighting has a therapeutic effect on the human condition (in medicine this concept is called chromotherapy).

In this case, the lighting can come not only from the walls and ceiling of the cabin, but also the streams of water coming out of the shower head are colored. Colors can be changed using the remote control, depending on your mood and which body system should be affected.

  • Aromatherapy. This function allows you to fill the cabin with aromas with healing effects. To achieve this effect, steam and water are passed through a chamber containing an aromatic balm. The aromatherapy function can only be installed in cabins closed type, otherwise the desired effect will not be achieved.
  • Tropical shower. This function simulates pouring rain, and this effect is achieved using a nozzle specially installed in the ceiling of the cabin. “Tropical shower” relaxes muscles and nervous system, so it is recommended to take it before bed.

The “tropical shower” nozzle is usually mounted in the roof of the shower stall

  • Cold and hot shower. This function has the opposite direction: if Summer shower relaxes, then a contrasting one will give vigor and increase efficiency. During the adoption of procedures, an alternating supply of cold and hot water within a predetermined temperature range.
  • Hydromassage. Hydromassage devices can be horizontal and vertical. A horizontal hydromassage can be installed in a deep tray, which is essentially a whirlpool bath.

Vertical hydromassage is the one for which nozzles supplying air and water flows are installed on the side walls of the cabin. The quality and variety of available massage functions depends on the number and location of nozzles. Hydromassage can improve well-being, normalize blood circulation and have a positive effect on intestinal function.

  • Turkish bath. If this function is provided in the booth, then inside it you can create a special microclimate with 100% humidity at a temperature of 40÷60 degrees. This option is achieved using a steam generator that generates and dissipates steam inside the cabin.

It should be noted that to achieve the effect of the hydromassage function and create a microclimate Turkish bath, pressure in water pipes should be no less than 2÷3 Bar.

In addition to these functions, shower cabins can also be equipped with voice control, music, detergent dispensers and much more.

When purchasing a shower stall with an abundance of different functions, you must immediately expect high energy consumption. Connecting the cabin to electricity must be done with a separate cable, which must be grounded, so you should invite a specialist for installation and connection.

Is it possible to install a shower stall yourself?

Practice shows that this is a rather difficult, but still quite feasible task. Advice on this is given in an article on our portal specifically dedicated to this issue.

Bathroom finishing

The surfaces of a bathroom with a shower stall installed in it are most often tiled with ceramic tiles, since this material is ideal for this room. However, there are other options.

Wall decoration with plastic panels

The range of PVC panels is very diverse

Plastic panels, which can be found in a large variety in hardware stores, are perfect for decorating bathroom walls. An important condition for their installation is the maximum possible evenness of the wall surfaces. This is necessary especially if the bathroom space is very small and installation will have to be done using glue.

The advantage of choosing plastic panels is that they are more affordable and any novice craftsman can install them, and this is especially important for saving money, which is already spent quite a lot during repairs.

An important condition for the quality of installation of this material is the tight connection of the panels to each other and careful sealing of all joints.

The most “budget” option for wall decoration in the bathroom is PVC panels

At the time of buying quality panels and following the technology of their installation, you will get a beautiful, durable, hygienic coating that will last for many years. How to do it yourself - in a special publication on our portal.

“Classic” wall decoration – ceramic tiles

Cladding with ceramic tiles is a more labor-intensive job, since you need to master the technology of its laying. Therefore, in order to get an impeccable result, you often have to invite a master veneerer, and his work will not be cheap. It is especially important to carry out the process according to all the rules if you intend to decorate the walls with tiles with an ornamental image or fit panels into the main masonry.

If you still decide to try your hand at this work, then the walls will need to be leveled to perfection. This task can be dealt with by using sheets of plasterboard, which are mounted on the wall using a construction adhesive mixture. Such leveling is possible if the walls do not have excessively large differences. For surfaces in the bathroom, only moisture-resistant plasterboard with green color front surface.

Use drywall to level the walls!

Ideally smooth gypsum boards will level the surface and become a good basis for further finishing, including ceramic tile cladding. In conditions of limited bathroom space, it is more advantageous to apply directly to the surface. How this is done is in a separate article on the portal.

Floor finishing

The floor in the bathroom can be tiled with ceramic tiles, moisture-resistant laminate or decorate it with a self-leveling epoxy coating.

Ceramic tiles on the floor must also be laid skillfully, otherwise level differences may form. This will not look aesthetically pleasing, and in addition, it can lead to injuries, since it is easy to trip on the protruding tiles or scratch your foot.

If the shower tray has low sides, then flooring made only from ceramic tiles.

Tiling the floor - how difficult is it?

The process cannot be called simple, but if you strictly follow all the technological recommendations, you can do it yourself. To decide on it, it is recommended to study the special publication of our portal.

  • The floor can be decorated with laminate if a closed shower stall with high tray walls is installed. With this option, the risk of water overflowing and hitting the floor surface will be much lower.

Laminate has an advantage over ceramic tiles in that its surface is much warmer and less traumatic, which is very important when getting out of the shower.

The “disadvantage” of this coating is its shorter service life. But if you purchase material with a high resistance class, lay it and use it carefully, and do not walk on such a floor in shoes with hard soles, then the laminated coating can last quite a long time.

  • A self-leveling epoxy or polymer floor is suitable for a bathroom that has a shower stall with any tray, since it performs two functions at once - waterproofing and decorative coating. The disadvantage of this type of floor is that to install it you will have to invite a professional, whose work will be quite expensive. And the set of materials for such filling itself will cost a “good” amount.

A modern approach to finishing a bathroom - self-leveling epoxy flooring

A self-leveling polymer floor with patterns, fillers or even a three-dimensional design will look very advantageous in the bathroom. In addition, the problem of waterproofing is immediately completely solved. To learn more about the technology and evaluate your capabilities, read the special publication of the portal.

Bathroom ceiling

The ceiling in the bathroom is decorated using different materials - these can be plastic panels, suspended ceiling, slab, painted, decorated with polystyrene foam tiles, made of plasterboard suspended structure and others.

The most important element of a bathroom interior is a beautifully designed ceiling.

The ceiling in the bathroom - a special approach

Each type of ceiling finish has its own advantages and disadvantages, both during installation and during operation. To find out, read the special article on the portal.

Design options for bathrooms with shower

To imagine what they might look like different variants shower cabins in the interior of small bathrooms of standard apartments, it is proposed to consider several possible design solutions in more detail.

Option No. 1

In this case, the combined bathroom is arranged in a room whose area is usually reserved only for the bathroom.

Compact location of all necessary elements, contributed to the fact that a fairly large area of the room remained free. For this purpose, a simple compact shower cabin without additional functions with a medium-depth tray was chosen, so it does not weigh down the interior. Its matte-transparent walls, as well as a mirror that reflects the opposite wall, help expand the space.

For the walls and floor, two types of light-colored tiles were used, which harmonize perfectly with each other. A narrow ceramic border with an ornament that includes both colors used in the interior is used as a decorative decoration, which both unites and separates them.

Light colors and floor tiles laid diagonally, visually expands the room.

To prevent the room from appearing narrow due to the height of the ceiling, white tiles are laid not to the entire height of the wall, but in the form of a wide insert, which is framed by a narrow border of ornamental tiles. The upper part of the walls is decorated with a strip of the same color as the lower part of the interior - this seems to make the ceiling lower, and the room does not seem too narrow. Combining color between floor planes and panels also expands the space.

The central sewer pipe is disguised by the design of the shelves, which are not only functional, but also fit perfectly into the design.

We can say about this interior that the designer thought through every detail of its design - from the color scheme to the placement of all accessories. Moreover, a space has been prudently left where, if desired, the apartment owner can easily install a washing machine and secure a towel rack.

Option No. 2

In this case, free space in the bathroom appeared due to the combination of two rooms - the bathroom and the toilet. When demolishing the wall between these rooms, part of it was prudently preserved to convert it into a medium-height partition separating the bath and toilet areas. The compactness of this element makes it almost invisible in the interior; moreover, its preservation made it possible to preserve the location of the heated towel rail, which was simply replaced with a smaller version.

The interior uses two shades of the same warm color, which makes the room lighter, and the white ceiling echoes the interior elements, which look like light spots against the background of a dark orange tone. The border separating the color zones is a kind of “highlight” that adds aesthetics to the design and emphasizes the panel area.

Such a color scheme, although thought out in warm sunny tones, still requires more intense lighting, since the dark orange tint of the panels and floor does not support it, but rather absorbs it. Therefore, only the white ceiling and accessories located on a dark background look like light spots.

For this bathroom, a compact, simple shower cabin without additional functions with transparent walls was chosen, which contributes to the effect of expanding the space, and the rounded shape of its doors softens the lines of the interior. Smooth lines and warm colors can put a person in the mood for relaxation, which is good for the evening hours, when water treatments are taken before bed, but does not at all contribute to the mood for increased performance.

It should be noted that this design is not well thought out color scheme, since the room requires additional lighting. The arrangement of all interior elements is successful, quite compact and occupies a small area. The rest of the room can be used to install other traditional bathroom items and appliances.

Option #3

The interior in this case is made in cool colors. Although the room is quite bright and does not require additional lighting, the chosen gray and white finish looks rather dull and “official”. There is thoughtful neatness in the interior, thanks to the rational arrangement of all accessories, however, there seems to be a lack of home comfort. If selected facing material of this shade and the room is already decorated in a similar style, then a rug of a bright warm color placed on the floor and a colored panel on the wall will help correct the situation. These details will add warmth, comfort and light to a dull, monochromatic interior.

The layout of the room is successful, but the design style is somewhat “cold”

The positive aspects of this design include the horizontal arrangement of rectangular tiles on the walls and diagonal ones on the floor provided by the designer. This solution visually expands the space and makes the room more voluminous.

In the option under consideration, a shower cabin has been chosen, which has a massive shape and a greater number of functions. It is the center of the interior and the first one, upon entering the room, attracts attention, and the remaining elements seem to support its presence, filling the space.

In general, the interior is decorated with professional precision and calculation. The only drawback is its monotony and coldness of color.

Option No. 4

This small bathroom is located in a small apartment, the so-called “Khrushchev”. Having such a small room, you have to think through the installation of each of the elements with special care, and the shower cabin with its compactness can be called the only rational solution.

Managed to fit literally “on the spot”

In this interior, despite its small area, the sewer line and pipes running next to it are perfectly camouflaged with the help of a built-in duct. Moreover, the box fits perfectly into the design, without standing out and, it would seem, not taking up space at all. The shower stall successfully found its place between the wall and the protruding part of the box. Although it does not look compact in a small room, it looks very aesthetically pleasing and neat. The semicircular sliding doors of the booth have frosted glass, and this additionally contributes to the visual expansion of the space, as they close the corner of the room in which the booth is installed, thereby blurring the boundary of the wall.

The premises are decorated in light colors, and for this purpose a tile the color of baked milk was used. This approach, together with the white color of all accessories, enhances the lighting of the room.

In the interior shown, the area is used as rationally as possible with a well-chosen color and arrangement of all the elements necessary for this room.

Option No. 5

Another room, which has a small area, would seem to make it impossible to place everything necessary for hygiene procedures in it. However, the skillful designer did an excellent job here too, choosing compact accessories and successfully placing them in the space.

There was even room in the room for a pencil case, a washing machine and a mobile bedside table, on which they could comfortably fit detergents and towels.

Moreover, a shower cabin was chosen for this bathroom, which has a deep tray that can be used almost like a full-fledged bathtub. In addition, the cabin is equipped additional functions, as well as a seat, which makes holding water procedures as comfortable as possible.

The walls and floors were decorated using ceramic tiles of contrasting colors. The panels are covered with dark blue cladding material, and the upper part of the wall is made white, which makes a small room that does not have natural light quite bright. A narrow border, separating two colors and having them in its ornament, softens the sharp transition from the dark lower area of the wall to its upper, light part.

We can say about this interior that it contains everything necessary for receiving procedures. Moreover, despite the small space, quite a lot of space is left for free passage to any of the accessories.

In conclusion, I would like to note that in order for the interior created in the bathroom to be used for as long as possible, it is very important to carry out preliminary preparation of the room, as well as choose the right accessories for it. Having followed all the recommendations for arranging this room, the owners will receive a comfortable bathroom that will last for decades.

At the end of the publication - one more interesting option designer bathroom design with installation of a shower stall.
