Bed bases with wide slats. What are lamellas and which ones are better? Bent slats or straight for making beds

For beds, slats can be made exclusively from wood. The most commonly used birch and poplar. This material was chosen due to its flexibility and resilience. The wood also contributes to the excellent ventilation of the mattress.

Double bed with slats - an ideal orthopedic option bed.

Experts believe that 30 slats are enough for a double bed, and several times less for a single bed. Manufacturers do not adhere to this opinion and place 20-22 pieces. But if you decide to make slats and a bed with your own hands, you can independently calculate their number.

Option for a double bed with a standard set of slats.

The benefits of making furniture with your own hands

Among the advantages of self-construction of beds and lamellas, the following factors are noted.

  1. Environmental friendliness. natural material, that is, a tree, will not be able to adversely affect human health.
  2. Durability. Product made with my own hands will last for many years. The bed can withstand a large load, which confirms its strength.
  3. Custom size and design. The bed with your own hands will be made according to your drawings. Its size, shape, you can adjust to the desired parameters. No need to look for a place to place a large bed.
  4. Saving. This applies not only to indoor space, but also money. You calculate the quantity required material and buy them. It will be much cheaper than buying already ready product in the shop.

Option self installation lamley

The designs of single or double wooden beds are quite similar and quite simple. Both types of furniture consist of the following parts.

Sturdy lamellas with metal fasteners, installed by hand.

  1. The mattress on which the person will sleep is located on a flat base or slats. For the first option, use a thick sheet of plywood. The slats are transverse strips. This design is preferred. The mattress will not deform on it, the slats themselves are quite elastic. This design is more comfortable for sleeping.
  2. Planks or plywood are placed on a frame made of high strength beams.
  3. Side panels or legs can be used as a support to which the frame is attached.

Lamels are a durable orthopedic base for beds.

When choosing the size of a future bed, it is recommended to rely on the parameters of the mattress. It is also worth considering the location and location of the product. Standard size single bed - 200-210 cm long and 90-100 wide. For a double, the length remains the same, and the width is 180-200 cm, that is, it doubles.

Standard slats for bed bases.

The height of the product is a rather subjective parameter. It all depends on your preferences.

The purpose of the cross bar

It has already been noted that instead of cross bar a thick sheet of plywood can be used. It is worth noting the advantages and purpose of the lattice in order to understand that it is preferable.

Selection of the type of attachment for the slats at the base of the bed.

  1. Reduced bed load. Due to this, the quality of the product is enhanced, the service life is increased.
  2. Spring quality. The bar is elastic and therefore the entire load that acts on it is distributed evenly.
  3. When you sleep, your spine will assume the correct position.
  4. The grille is fixed with the help of special holders. This allows you to make the design reliable and subsequently avoid squeaks and noise.
  5. The bar is located in such a way that it can be made natural ventilation bed on all sides.

The process of creating the base and frame of the bed from slats

Necessary materials

Before you buy everything you need and make a bed with your own hands, as well as lamellas, you should detailed drawing. For double bed standard parameters you will need the following materials.

The process of spreading the slats along the base of a single bed.

  • 3 boards with dimensions of 200x30x3 cm. They will become the walls and headboard of the product.
  • 2 boards measuring 250x30x2 cm. They will become the side parts of the bed.
  • 5 bars, each 200 cm long, section 4x4. Needed for the manufacture of the supporting structure, support and legs.
  • The rail is 150x4x2 cm in size. It will become a transverse bar at the base of the bed. A rail is needed to secure the headboard boards.
  • Stain.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Self-tapping screws.

Lamellas can be fastened both with fasteners and with the use of self-tapping screws.

It is worth clarifying once again that the amount of material is indicated for a standard double bed. You should select everything in accordance with the parameters of the future product and drawings.

How to correctly insert the lamellas into the mount.

Required Tools

For self assembly bed and making a cross bar you will need a drill, cutter, sandpaper. Also prepare a hacksaw, a pencil. For measurement and accuracy, rulers, tape measure, square are useful. Among the tools needed for self-manufacturing beds should be a planer, a screwdriver and a jigsaw.

The installation of slats in the base of the bed can be done independently, this does not require any expensive equipment.

Manufacturing process

After acquiring the required materials and preparing the tools, you should proceed to marking and further sawing them. It is recommended to adhere to the following rules in this process.

The ideal method of fastening lamellas with metal fasteners.

  1. Complete a detailed drawing of the future bed, indicating all the exact parameters.
  2. Write a list of all the parts you need for the product. Indicate how much material is required for each of them.
  3. Marking, in places of future cuts, is recommended to be done using a cutter or pencil and always a ruler.
  4. When making parts identical in parameters in several copies, you should make one and leave it as a template. This will make the process easier and faster.
  5. Places of cuts should be cleaned with sandpaper.

Ortho frame for baby crib

After marking, you can proceed to the construction of the frame.

Lamellas are increasingly being used for perfect and solid foundation for beds.

Using the removed parameters, saw off 2 end and long boards, which will become the sidewalls.

Reinforced slat block for high-quality bed bases with a high degree of load.

Assemble the resulting pieces into a rectangle. To fasten them together, you can use wooden spikes or eyelets. Cut holes with a jigsaw. Can be hollowed out with a chisel.

The resulting lugs are lubricated with glue and connected. Align everything at a 90-degree angle and, using clamps, fix until completely dry.

Choose the type of fastening of the lamellas, which will become the most durable and reliable.

The frame is ready. It is quite reliable and strong. To assemble the base wooden bed was an easy process, you should connect the parts with self-tapping screws with additional fastening and metal corners.

Orthopedic double bed frame made of slats.

After the frame, proceed to install the legs. Cut several bars of identical length. They are mounted in the corners of the product. They can be inserted into the frame or fixed from the outside, from the inside.

Elevating bed base

To insert the legs directly into the base, use the spikes to secure. This is the most reliable option. If the width of the bed exceeds 220 cm, install the 5th leg in the middle of the product. For this, it is mounted longitudinal board to which it is attached.

Bed base on five legs

Final stage

Now you can proceed to the assembly of the lamella base. These are transverse slats that support the mattress and prevent it from deforming.

Lamellas at the base of the sofa

  1. Stuff the base, side and end of the mounting lock rail.
  2. Mark at least 100 mm above the edge.
  3. The rail is attached around the entire perimeter using a solid line and a dotted line. You can take a metal corner instead.
  4. You will need a bar with a section of 30x30. From it make a frame for the cross bar. Fasten it according to the internal parameters of the base.
  5. Then a rail measuring 150x4x2 cm is stuffed onto the frame. Fasten it across the length. The distance is at least 5 cm.

TO metal frame lamellas must be fastened with metal fasteners.

If you perform all the steps, following strictly made drawings, you will not have problems with installation. At the final stage, the base should be processed sandpaper and varnish it.

Lmelederzhatel can be completely invisible, but at the same time as durable as possible.

You should carefully consider the choice of coverage of the finished bed. After all, it must fully fit into the interior of the room. Before coating the product with varnish, it is recommended to first give it a tone. For this, a stain is suitable.

Reinforced metal mount for wooden slats

It should be applied evenly using a brush. Lacquering the surface is only after the stain has dried. It is necessary to make 2 varnish coats.

Specialization: master in construction drywall constructions, finishing works and styling floor coverings. Installation of door and window blocks, facade finishing, installation of electrics, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

The base of the bed is an important part of the design, on which the quality of sleep largely depends. And if solid flooring or spring options were previously used, then today a simpler and more effective solution- structures made of wooden lamellas. This option creates optimal conditions for human recreation and at the same time it is inexpensive. We will analyze all the features of the products and tell you how to put them correctly.

What are products and why are they needed?

First, let's figure out what a lamella is. This is a special wooden plate, curved to one side in order to create an elastic base during installation. Most often, the elements consist of several layers of wood that are glued together, this provides the best spring properties and makes the lamellas much more resistant to deformation and damage.

Used in the manufacture different breeds wood: beech, ash, maple, linden, birch. In principle, all options differ in quality if they are produced according to technology.

The most popular option is birch products, they are distinguished by affordable cost and good performance.

Now let's figure out why we need slatted bed bases:

  • This design increases the anatomical effect of the mattress, improving its properties. Essentially, this perfect solution under orthopedic mattresses, even their manufacturers recommend using beds with just such options. They are best suited for heavy mattresses, which are used in modern conditions.
  • The slats reduce the load on the bed frame and on the mattress. Due to springy properties and a separate frame, which is always used for rails, they provide a longer service life of structures due to better weight distribution.
  • The use of slats can significantly increase the life of the mattress. This is achieved not only due to the competent distribution of weight, but also due to the fact that the slats are located with gaps and the lower part of the mattress is well ventilated, which is very important. If on solid bases the lower part of the mattresses is often covered with condensate, which is fraught with the formation of mold, then this problem is absent in the slatted structure.

  • Due to the curved shape, the base has a springy effect. In addition, due to the design features, the bed base does not creak or make other extraneous sounds even after a long service life.
  • If you use special holders made of latex, then the base will adapt to your anatomy. The mount is made movable, which is very important for optimal load distribution and ensuring a comfortable position for the spine.

Aspects of choice

Now let's figure out how to purchase quality products and what should be given priority.

In what form are they sold

In general, lamellas can be included in the delivery of a sofa or bed, or they can be sold individually, which is very convenient.

It is important to remember that if at least one element is broken at the base, then sleeping on it is not recommended. This is due to the incorrect distribution of the load on the base, and the risk of deformation of other panels, and the incorrect weight distribution of the mattress, which reduces its orthopedic effect.

You can purchase the following options:

  • Lamella set. Most often, this solution is suitable for those who change all the elements of the base, or for those who assemble the orthopedic base on their own. To buy a set, you need to know the dimensions of the bed or the dimensions of the frames in which they are placed, because in the double versions two designs are used.
  • Kits on tape. This option was widely used in models produced a few years ago, these designs are not used today, as there are better solutions. If you have an option on the tape, then you can buy a similar set and quickly replace the base, this process takes a few minutes.

  • Armor can be bought by the piece. Most often they are sold in furniture stores or outlets specializing in furniture fittings. If you are looking for separate element, then it is important to know the dimensions of the lamellas used by you - their length, width and thickness, otherwise it will be difficult to find the right solution.

In addition to the rails themselves, you may need special mounts. There are so many options, so specific solution selected individually for a particular design.

Which is better

Let's figure out what aspects you need to remember when choosing lamellas:

Illustration Description

Wide slats. They are used as a base for mattresses without springs and for variants with Bonnel dependent spring blocks. They can be up to 1200 mm long and are most often used on single and half-sleeping structures, although they are also found on double beds.

This option is characterized by high strength, the elements resist loads well and practically do not break during operation.

Narrow slats. Best suited for mattresses with independent box springs. They can be located both through the same gap, and in pairs, if flexible rubber fasteners on the frame are used.

The option is elastic and provides high comfort of rest.

For a single bed you need 13-16 wide slats. If narrow elements are used, then there may be twice as many of them.

It is important to arrange the elements at the same distance so that the base is the same in its characteristics over the entire area.

In double designs, the lamellas are placed in two rows.. That is, they usually need twice as many as in single options. As for the quantity, it all depends on the width of the lamellas, the length of the base and the required rigidity of the structure.

The standard parameters of the elements are as follows:
  • Thickness 8-10 mm, this is the best solution, you should not take products thinner or thicker.
  • Width from 4 to 7 cm, it all depends on the type of mattress used.
  • The length varies depending on the width of the bed, but usually one lamella is made no more than a meter. Another parameter is the distance between the battens, it should be no more than the width of the rails used. Usually this figure is from 3 to 7 cm. The gaps can be narrower than the width of the rails.

It is important to choose high-quality holders for latoflex(this is also the name of the products we are considering):
  • Plastic is the cheapest, but also the lowest quality solution, which can crack with considerable effort.
  • Polypropylene is a more ductile material that resists damage better and lasts longer than plastic.
  • Rubber is the most elastic option and allows the sipes to play with the load. This type is shown in the photo on the left.

Aspects of the right choice

Illustration Description

When choosing beds, always count the number of slats in a row.. The optimal number for a bed 200 cm long is from 20 or more. Experts advise choosing solutions with the maximum number elements, they are more elastic and provide reliable support for any type of mattress.

If the length of the bed is different, then the number of latoflexes will vary.

Production material. Another important aspect, directly affecting the durability of the structure:
  • Birch is the most common and popular solution, characterized by low cost and good performance.
  • Beech and other hardwoods are a more reliable solution, which is noticeably more expensive. But if quality is important to you, then choose this solution.

There are systems with different levels of rigidity of lamellas on different areas . This solution is perfect for those who have back problems and those who value comfort and care about their health.

To adjust the rigidity of individual sections of the structure, special jumpers are used, shown in the photo.

How to make a base with your own hands

Let's figure out how to insert a rack base to replace the old solid flooring, everything is quite simple if you understand the issue:

Illustration Description

Lamella holders. You need two of these elements per bar. Plus, it is advisable to purchase a few more pieces in reserve, in the process of work, sometimes individual holders deteriorate.

slats. Their size should match the holders, and the number should be selected depending on the size of the bed and the distance between the armor. We recommend choosing a clearance of 4 cm, this will give a medium stiffness.

To work, you will need such a set of tools:
  • Jigsaw or hand saw. It is more convenient to cut lamellas with a power tool.
  • Construction square, tape measure and marking pencil.
  • Screwdriver with a nozzle for self-tapping screws.

The bed is vacated first. It is necessary to remove the bed and remove the mattress to open access to the base. In our case, this chipboard sheets fastened with self-tapping screws. The fasteners must be unscrewed, and the sheets removed and removed.

There is a bar in the middle. It's wide enough so there's no need to redo anything - we'll be using the old frame with a few tweaks.

side load-bearing elements too narrow to reinforce the frame holder, a rail is screwed to the old bar. The result was a protrusion of 5 cm.

The slats are cut off desired length jigsaw. Then holders are put on the end and the elements are laid out on the surface.

To control the same gap between the lamellas, a building square is used, its width is just 4 cm.

Fastening is made through the protrusion at the bottom. For each holder, we recommend using two self-tapping screws to ensure reliability.

Can be fastened with elements of 25 mm in length.

Assembly is carried out in the same way until the very end.. When the base is ready, you can lay the mattress and enjoy a comfortable rest.

If you need to repair part of the base and replace one or more damaged lamellas, then you just need to unscrew the fasteners on the required elements and replace them. Everything is simple and fast.

Grid or solid bottom

If you are still in doubt, then let's look at the advantages of lamellas:

  • The slats provide ventilation from the bottom of the mattress, solid flooring does not.
  • The grate has springy properties, and chipboard or plywood lies rigidly.
  • Orthopedic properties of the mattress are best manifested when using lat.
  • The solid base sags and creaks over time, the grate does not have these disadvantages.
  • Rack systems are much lighter, which is also important.

Conclusion

Now you are familiar with all the features of the slats used in the bases for beds and sofas, and you can install them yourself, the video will help you understand the workflow even better and clearly show important points work. If there are any questions - write them in the comments.

A comfortable bed in the modern sense is a complex system, carefully calculated to provide an anatomically comfortable sleep. And in this system, not the last place is occupied by the base with lamellas under the mattress.

Lamella - what is it?

In a broad sense, a lamella is a strip, a plate made of any material. Bed slats are part of the slatted base on which the mattress is placed. They are also called lats or latoflexes.

The modern slatted bed bottom consists of several transverse thin slats that have replaced traditional springs, massive boards and solid bases.

The comfort of the bed and your sleep depends on the structure of the lamella bed frame and the quality of the lamellas themselves.

What are bed slats and what are they for?

In furniture production, latoflexes (lamellas) are transverse slats on the frame of a bed or sofa that support a mattress. But today, more and more often, the slats are mounted on a separate orthopedic base, which is hidden inside the bed frame.

The slatted bed base has advantages over a solid one. It provides air circulation, facilitating the care of the mattress and allowing it to “breathe”, evaporating the moisture released during sleep by a person, because its upper part is usually covered with a mattress cover, bed linen, bedspread. Bed slats are a great way to avoid the greenhouse effect in a mattress, reducing the risk of pathogenic flora breeding due to high humidity.

The most comfortable slats have an elastic arched profile that provides a slightly springy effect when exposed to them. Elastic arcuate armor reduces the load on the mattress and increases its anatomical effect.

The advantages of slats in the bed

The base with lamellas gives:
  • proper operation and ventilation of the mattress, prolonging its life;
  • improved support of the spine in the required position (you should especially pay attention to models with adjustable stiffness of the slats);
  • comfortable rest - especially slatted bases with a transformable shape, which allow you to take the most comfortable position for complete relaxation.
The structure of the base with armor can be different. The grille can be either with wide slats or with narrow ones. The number and width of the lamellas affect the degree of anatomical effect and usefulness of the base.

When choosing the type of slats, pay attention to the design of the mattress:

  • wide slats- suitable for springless and bonnel spring mattresses;
  • narrow slats- they are suitable for all mattresses, but you should especially prefer them if your mattress is on independent springs, and these should definitely be chosen for models with a high density of multi-pocket springs.

How many lamellas should be in the base? Experts say: the more bars it has, the better! The basic rule for choosing the number of latoflexes: the more rails the base has, the higher its flexibility and anatomical support. The maximum number of rails can reach 26-30 - such a base with armor is the most popular.

The distance between the lamellas can also vary. It should not greatly exceed the width of the rail. The usual width of wide lamellas is 5-7 cm, narrow 3-4 cm, thickness is 8 mm.

How lamellas are made - materials

Armor for the bed is made mainly from wood. For the manufacture of lamellas, bent-glued plywood is made from several layers of natural veneer. This material is optimally suited for the production of latoflex due to its high elasticity and good elasticity. The naturalness of wood lamellas is also attractive:
  • birch lamellas - a more economical option;
  • beech lamellas - installed on more expensive bases, they have the highest strength and flexibility.

How bed slats are attached: types of holders

Today, manufacturers are increasingly abandoning the options for slats on the tape and rigid fastening of the slats in the bed frame. Latoflexes are usually held on the frame due to special tips worn on each bar - lamella holders.

Lamella holders are made from:

  • rubber
  • polypropylene;
  • plastic.
Rubber or polypropylene lat holders prevent bed creaking.

How to insert, remove or change slats?

The tip is put on a separate bar, which is then inserted into a special slot on the frame. At the same time, the armor is slightly bent - they can easily withstand it.

Don't know how to remove the slats? To do this, you need to carefully bend the bar so that the mount comes out of the nest, and move the end of the latoflex to the side. This skill is useful if you are trying to disassemble the base or are puzzled by the question of how to change the lamellas.

Bases with adjustable lamella stiffness are gaining popularity. These have lamellas with special nozzles in the zone of active load on the base - they allow you to adjust the rigidity of the latoflex.

By moving or expanding a pair of cursors along the bar, one can decrease or increase the stiffness of the support in this zone accordingly.

Also installed on the active zone additional block with double or triple lamellas. It allows you to increase the rigidity in the lumbar area, improving the orthopedic properties of the mattress.

The slats are the most important detail orthopedic bed base. They provide a springy effect, increasing the benefits of an anatomical mattress. High-quality flexible slats under the mattress are the basis for a sound and healthy sleep.

Many people face this choice when it comes time to buy a bed. The question arises, why buy an orthopedic base when you can get by with an orthopedic mattress?

If you decide to improve your body, choose a bed with an orthopedic base.

Buying a good orthopedic mattress is a profitable investment in your comfort and well-being.

In this article, we will answer this question and tell you what are the advantages and disadvantages of the grounds, what to look for when buying.

There are two categories for beds: flat solid and orthopedic slatted.

1) Flat solid is a surface made from planed boards, plywood or chipboard (made from pressed wood shavings). It is processed with protective and decorative means, attached to the frame. The solid base is heavier than the orthopedic, less mobile. And most importantly, it does not allow the mattress to reveal all its orthopedic characteristics and capabilities. Thus, sleep worsens.

Such a base interacts worse with the mattress due to poor ventilation, therefore, its service life is reduced.

2) Orthopedic slatted bed base is made of metal or wooden frame With lifting mechanism and legs, wooden lamellas, which are attached to it with lat holders.

Lamels are wooden curved planks.

Lamels can be made from the following types of wood:

  • Birch;
  • Beech;
  • Nut.

Birch lamellas are optimal material. They perform their functions adequately and at the same time are cheaper than lamellas from other types of wood.

Walnut and beech lamellas are more expensive, but they are durable and can withstand more weight.

Standard lamella sizes:

  • Thickness from 6 to 8 mm;
  • Optimum width 63 mm;
  • Length according to base dimensions;
  • The distance between the lamellas is 70-80 mm, this distance improves the orthopedic effect;
  • The optimal number of lamellas is from 11 to 13 pcs.

The slats provide a comfortable and anatomically correct location body.

Such sizes of slats make the bed lighter. They give it elasticity, harmony of interaction with an orthopedic mattress, which allows you to achieve maximum comfort.

The lattice from lamellas maintains loading to 150 kg.

All orthopedic bases pass all mandatory strength tests.

Design features of a bed with an orthopedic base

In addition to these advantages, this design allows the bed to be more mobile, which will significantly save space in the car when moving, and facilitate unloading and loading.

This option is well suited for a rented apartment, motels, hotels.

Sleeping structures with such bases are disassembled and assembled without much effort, the following elements are separated from the frame:

  • Sleeping area;
  • Legs;
  • Upper base with lamellas;
  • The lower part, with drawers for linen.

The disassembled structure can be transported by car.

Such designs are equipped with a lifting mechanism, have the ability to compactly store things and bedding.The legs are detached, the slats are pulled out of lat holders , remains a metal frame with a mattress.

All other parts of the structure are compactly folded into a box.

Designs are available in 2 types:

1) Without stiffness adjustment;

The base of the bed without the ability to change the rigidity of the slats.

2) With adjustable stiffness (a very important, at the same time convenient feature for double structures).

This function is convenient for a bed on which people with different weights sleep.

Using the adjustment, you can adjust the rigidity of the orthopedic base, individually for each person lying on it. There are 7 hardness zone points:

  • Head,
  • Shoulders
  • Back,
  • Hips,
  • Knees,
  • Feet.

A bed with the ability to adjust the rigidity of the slats along their entire length.

To the base of the bed, it is important to choose the right mattress. Orthopedic mattresses are made with different fillers. These are mainly springs, horsehair, coconut coir, natural latex.

All these fillers do not cause an allergic reaction, are well ventilated and moderately elastic, which creates maximum effect for a comfortable sleep.

Dimensions

The length of the base should be 20 cm more than a person's height, the width of a single base should be at least 80 cm. Such dimensions allow you to comfortably sit on the bed.

A bed with such dimensions does not take up extra space in the room.

The legs are made of high-strength metal, the most convenient length of the legs is 24-25 cm. The height of the base depends on them. The stability of the structure is ensured by the number of legs (there are up to 7 of them on the frame).

To strengthen the structure, a central frame runs in the middle.

The total height is 27-28 cm, it all depends on the manufacturer. The lamella grid serves to properly distribute the weight on the mattress and prolong the life of the mattress.

Choosing an orthopedic base

When choosing, you need to pay attention to the following factors:

  • The quality of the lamellas (they should not have large knots and cracks);
  • The base should not creak, creaking causes discomfort;
  • The metal frame should not have rust, chips and scratches;
  • Wooden bases should not have loose holes for fastening, sharp raw edges;
  • Complete set of accessories;
  • Lamels should not have chips;

An important criterion is the brand of the product, because the quality of the product depends on the comfort of sleep, the service life of the orthopedic base.

The details of fastening the slats affect the price and quality of the bed. The slats are attached to the base -lat holders.

Lato holders are fasteners designed to hold the lamellas in the sleeping structure.

The slats are attached with the convex side up. They are rubber and plastic. Rubber is more flexible and more expensive.

Plastic lato holders are cheaper, but more rigid and durable than rubber ones.

Orthopedic bases are produced with a lifting mechanism. Mechanisms are divided into several types.

  1. The manual mechanism is reliable and has more long term services than all the others, but inconvenient, because when opening, you have to hold the base and the mattress at the same time.
  2. Spring-loaded, difficult to rise, but does its job well, over time it has to be changed due to the fact that the springs are stretched.
  3. Gas shock absorbers open smoothly and silently, mainly used to lift heavy bed structures.
  4. Lifting mechanism with electric drive - it is convenient to use, it is set in motion by the control panel.

Lift beds can be equipped with linen drawers, thereby saving space in the bedroom.

Legs are made of high strength metal comfortable height, which can be easily detached and attached to the bed frame, ensure the stability of the entire structure and additional mobility of the bed.

Orthopedic base with adjustment

There are two types of adjustment.

1. Adjusting the stiffness of the lamellas.

This adjustment allows you to adjust the bed to your weight.

2. Adjustment of the upper and lower parts of the base.

This type of adjustment will allow you to comfortably enjoy breakfast, ensure the outflow of blood to tired legs, laying them at an angle.

From such functions, reliability and strength are not lost, since manufacturers take into account all the necessary points during testing.

Summing up

The advantages of classic beds with a solid base are that they are designed for a greater weight of a person than with an orthopedic lattice and are more stable due to their weight.

The disadvantages of the bases of such beds are that they are more bulky, less mobile, they have a shorter service life of mattresses, they are more difficult to repair than beds that have an orthopedic base.

Beds with an orthopedic base also have a number of advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages of such beds are much greater than the disadvantages. They p designed for weight up to 150 kg, l light in weight, m plentiful, b dismantled and assembled quickly. Is inthe ability to adjust the rigidity of the bed individually. There is a largevariety of designs, wwide price range.The frame can be used independently of the bed. The beds supplied with the lifting mechanism are convenient in operation.

In the manufacture of such beds are used modern technologies, which expands their capabilities and gives additional comfort.

The only downside is that these bedsdesigned for less weight.

If the sleeping person weighs more than 90 kg, then you need to use narrow slats, wide ones are suitable for people with less weight. Some manufacturers of bases also produce mattresses. It is recommended to choose mattresses and bases from the same manufacturer.

Additionally, you can get a discount on products.

Pay attention to completeness, legs are ordered separately from some manufacturers. To feel the full effect of an orthopedic mattress, you first buy a mattress, then a base under it. If you don't have enough money to buy suitable option, in many retail outlets you can get a loan, thereby making a long-term investment in your health.

An additional advantage of the orthopedic lattice is a quick repair.

Instead of a broken lamella, you can always order a product right size, buy in the store. Many sellers offer free shipping to their customers.- this is another nice bonus.Sellers and manufacturers who value their reputation always meet the needs of customers and exchange goods in the event of a manufacturing defect.

Remember: a high-quality, correctly made orthopedic base is the key to a healthy sleep.

VIDEO: Instructions for assembling a bed with an orthopedic base.

Beds with springs have long sunk into oblivion and have been replaced by modern models with an orthopedic base. Their design is like two drops of water similar to each other and it consists of a wooden box, a metal frame and one or two rows of lamellas - curved panels. The latter are responsible for the orthopedic properties of the bed and take on the weight of the mattress and the person resting on it. What are the slats for beds and what are their advantages over the spring - let's figure it out in the article.

What it is?

The slats are wooden plates, the panels that make up the base of any modern bed. Their characteristic is the curved C-shape and the ability to withstand the heavy weight of the mattress + person. Reiki can be made from:

  • Birches - plastic and available material;
  • Lindens - an inexpensive analogue;
  • Beech;
  • Ash;
  • Maple.

Birch lamellas, or lats, are the most popular and affordable orthopedic slats. Beech and ash parts will cost more and are usually installed in 100% solid wood beds.

Why are they needed?

The orthopedic base of the bed is assembled like a puzzle - from a couple of dozens of slats and a common metal frame that holds them together. Wooden strips create a slatted bottom on which an orthopedic mattress is laid. Modern models mattresses do not tolerate uneven and questionable surfaces and are quite heavy in their weight, and the lamellas, in turn, provide:

  • Natural ventilation for the mattress due to the small distance between each of them;
  • Reducing the load on the mattress and on the bed frame;
  • Increase the anatomical effect of the mattress, that is, complement its orthopedic properties;
  • They create a light springy effect due to their curved shape, so such a base does not creak or make other annoying sounds;
  • They extend the life of the bed, because they completely take on the weight of the mattress.

It is not for nothing that the slatted base of the bed is called orthopedic: it evenly distributes the load on the spine of the resting person, providing him with a high-quality and full sleep.

The slats allow the mattress to “breathe” and remove moisture from it. We wrap each new mattress in a waterproof mattress pad, which can create a real greenhouse effect inside it. slatted bottom eliminates this problem, and the orthopedic "friend" continues to serve us faithfully for decades.

In what form can you buy?

The slats are sold as part of an orthopedic base in the bed and separately - by the piece. Like any other element of the bed, they are subject to stress and can break. Experts do not recommend sleeping on a bed even without one slat: firstly, the load on the other parts of the bed increases and their integrity is questioned, and secondly, the orthopedic properties of the mattress and the base are reduced, which are designed to evenly distribute the load on the spine and ensure healthy sleep.

The slats are sold individually or as a set according to the size of a bed or sofa, so if one plank is cracked or completely broken, it will not be difficult to replace it, it remains only to choose the right replacement for its thickness and width. A set of slats can be sold on a tape if your bed uses this system for attaching rails (by the way, it is already outdated). Additionally, you will have to buy spare parts for attaching the rail: a cap-holder (internal or consignment note). There are accessory caps that hold the lamella and are attached to the metal base of the bed without "intermediaries".

Which ones are better?

There are two types of lamellas: wide and narrow:

  • Wide slats about 900-1000 mm long are installed in one row on the grate and are often used in single or one and a half beds. The slats across the entire width of the bed are suitable for springless mattresses and models with "bonnel" springs.
  • Narrow(700-800 mm) are located in two rows - each for one bed. This type of slat arrangement is recommended for mattresses with independent springs.

If we talk about the number of elastic panels, then best option– 26-30 pieces for a double bed. For a single bed, the number of slats is half as much - 13-15 pieces. The more slats, the better: this number of slats ensures optimal flexibility of the bed base and can withstand more weight.

The lamellas differ from each other in thickness, length, width and the distance that forms between them. Optimal Thickness slats - 8-10 mm, width - 5-7 cm, length can vary from the width of the bed (140 cm, 160 cm, 180 cm - each of them will require slats of different lengths). Between the lamellas there should be a distance no more than the width of one of them - about 4-7 cm.

There is another important classification - according to the type of lamella holders. Modern manufacturers attach latoflexes to special holders made of:

  • Plastic;
  • rubber;
  • polypropylene.

The slats on a tape or fixed on a metal frame also move to the side, making room for a practical and easy fastening, which, in the event of a rail breakage, allows you to replace the latter yourself.

It is impossible to say which lamellas are better. If we talk about their fastening, then it is better to choose rubber or polypropylene holders - they are stronger and better than plastic counterparts.

Dimensions

The beds differ in the size of the bed, and each of them will require a different length of the slats. For a double bed 180x200 cm, slats 880 \ 885 mm wide are suitable, for a single bed - 900-990 mm, provided that the slats are arranged in one row, and 500 mm - for a pair of rows of slats. The slats can differ in size and even in the angle of bend, so before replacing and buying a separate rail, it is important to measure the length and width of the parts already installed in order to choose exactly the same.

The slats differ in width - 40, 50, 70, 80 mm, but their thickness is practically unchanged, the ideal is 8 mm.

How to choose?

When buying a bed with an orthopedic base or slatted bottom, pay attention to the number of those same slats.

The more, the better, according to experts. And the wider the bed, the more slats should be at its base.

The optimal number of rails on the bed rail is 20-22 pieces for a bed 190-200 cm long. If there are more slats, then such a bed will be softer, more plastic and more functional, it will withstand a greater weight of the mattress. Reiki differ not only in quantity, but also in the material from which they are made.

The most affordable is birch, which is not inferior in its strength to more hard rock tree.

Birch slats are usually installed in economy and middle segment beds. At the base of solid wood beds, beech lamellas are placed - durable and solid slats. Give preference to rubber or semi-propylene rail holders; plastic ones wear out quickly and are not as practical to use.

When choosing a slatted bed base, pay attention to the distance between the slats: it should not be more than the width of the plank. If it is large, then the springless mattress will fall into these “holes”, and the lamellas themselves will soon come out and fail, because they will not be able to withstand a lot of weight.

When buying a double bed with a width of 140 cm or more, choose a model in which the slatted bottom is divided into two halves. So for each bed will be created its own slatted base. It is logical to assume that shorter slats are used in this type of stock.

The slats lined up in one row are suitable for a single and one-and-a-half beds, a folding bed and a sofa when there is no heavy load on the base.

How to do it yourself?

For the production of lamellas is used natural wood- suitable birch or poplar. Making an orthopedic bed base and slats with your own hands has great advantage- you can choose the number of slats. This will require:

  1. Mounting rails or birch plywood 1.5-2 mm thick;
  2. Mounts for lamellas - rubber or foam;
  3. Cutting tool.

The process of creating lamellas begins with a drawing and cutting planks of the same size according to it

To make the job as easy as possible, choose a smooth 100% birch plywood that is free of knots and roughness so that you don't have to finish it.

How to insert?

The lamella is attached to the metal frame of the bed in the following way: a special cap is put on it and in this form they enter the hole (nest) at the base of the bed.

To remove the lamella or replace the damaged part with a whole one, bend the bar and remove the fastener from the socket. Remove the intermediary caps from both sides and replace the latter with a new whole bar. Put the caps back on, insert one end of the lamella into the socket, bend it and place the other end into the hole on the other side of the frame.

To attach the part to the frame correctly, you will need to make a little effort and bend the bar: it will not break.

Grid or solid bottom?

Beds with slats at the base have practically replaced the usual spring models and beds with a solid bottom, because have a number of significant advantages:

  • The slats evenly distribute the load on the human spine during rest and sleep;
  • Strengthen the effect of an orthopedic mattress;
  • Take on its weight (which is sometimes very heavy). Do not think that it is the body of the bed that is subjected to the greatest load, no. It is taken by the same orthopedic base, made of a metal case and a series of lamellas;
  • The slatted bottom allows the mattress to “breathe”, that is, it ensures proper air exchange and prevents it from “suffocating”. When buying a mattress, we often put a waterproof cover on it, which does not allow moisture or air to pass through, and the slatted bottom saves it from direct death and ensures the evaporation of moisture and “breathing” in general;
  • The arcuate shape provides a slight spring effect when loaded;
  • The base with lamellas does not creak even under heavy load (due to their shape and number);
  • Reiki can be changed individually if suddenly one of them is cracked or broken;
  • The slatted bottom is affordable and of higher quality than a solid counterpart.

Manufacturers of orthopedic mattresses advise choosing a slatted bed base, because it further prolongs the life of the mattress. Depreciation, which "give" the bed curved slats, has a positive effect on the health of a person and his spine.
