First, the side racks of the bench are assembled according to the following schemes:

Keep in mind: any drawing, even the most detailed one, is still a diagram, a sketch, from which you need to start. In the course of production, the parts will still have to be customized depending on the quality and quantity of materials, the availability of the necessary fasteners and decor options. Some of them protect the wood more strongly, but change its shade. Others are able to protect against UV exposure and preserve the texture of wood. Oil paints on wood, they perform the same functions, but they cover the “wooden pattern”.

A bench in the garden or in the country house plays the role of not only a place to relax, but also an element that decorates the exterior. Therefore, the process of making a garden bench must be approached with special responsibility. We will learn how to make a bench with our own hands further.

DIY benches photos and varieties

Exists a large number of materials from which you can build a bench in the garden. The first one is plastic given material allows you to purchase a ready-made bench. Making your own plastic product is problematic. However, we still get acquainted with the advantages of this material.

First of all, we note the ease plastic products. Thanks to this quality, the bench can be easily moved from one place to another. In addition, plastic products are affordable, easy to care for, do not need additional coloring, etc. Among the disadvantages of a plastic bench, we note: a tendency to mechanical damage, instability to ultraviolet radiation, cheap and unpresentable appearance.

By using plastic pipes and a tool for soldering them, it is possible to independently make a bench for the garden. Replace the soldering iron with liquid nails, which securely connect plastic pipes together.

The most popular, available material to create a garden bench - a tree. Wooden crafts they are practical in operation, they easily fit into any exterior, especially garden, where there are so many trees. However, the choice of wood should be approached with special responsibility, such varieties of wood should be selected that tolerate adverse weather conditions well. In addition, the drying of wood should be optimal for working with it.

The next material for creating a bench in the garden is stone. Stone products are natural and stylish, they are great for any exterior. Stone compositions are stylish, unusual and noble. However, the stone is suitable for making bench legs, sitting on the stone for a long time can lead to health problems.

Therefore, a stone bench is either covered with additional covers and pillows, or is made not only from stone, but from a combination of several materials. Please note that the stone bench is stationary and does not move from place to place, unlike plastic or wooden ones.

If there are metal compositions or forging in the garden or on the site, we recommend stopping at the steel version of the bench. Such a bench will perfectly decorate the garden and become good place for relax. The appearance of the structure is particularly attractive, especially when using additional steel elements. It is possible to combine metal with other materials, such as wood, stone.

When choosing a material to create a bench, you should first of all proceed from its combination with other items located on the site. A garden bench should be original, attractive and practical.

Decide on the type of bench, whether it will be portable or stationary. In addition, folding options for benches are distinguished, which are installed on the site in the spring and autumn and removed for the winter.

The most popular are benches made of wood. Wood is easy to process, so benches are made from it. various forms and sizes. In order for the wooden bench to serve you as long as possible, you need to properly care for it and choose certain types of wood that are resistant to adverse operating conditions.

The initial stage of creating a bench with your own hands

Before you start creating a bench in the garden, you should decide on the place of its installation. The dimensions of the bench, its shape and appearance will depend on this. We recommend installing the bench in a place surrounded by plants so that on a hot summer day it is always in the shade. The view from the bench should be attractive and natural.

If there is a fountain, waterfall or other source of water in the garden, set up a bench so that you can watch them from it. It is possible to install a bench next to a flower bed or flower garden. Thus, you will have the opportunity to enjoy previously planted plants. A bench surrounded by flowers or bushes is cozy, it is comfortable and pleasant to sit on such a bench.

In any case, the bench should be located in a shady place, so you will be protected not only from the heat, but also from strong winds. It is possible to create a cap over the bench that protects it from precipitation, in which case it will be possible to get a whole gazebo for relaxation. In any case, the bench should be located in such a place as to provide its owners with a good rest.

Do-it-yourself wooden bench drawings

Before creating drawings for a garden bench, you need to decide on the requirements that apply to it. A bench in the garden should be, above all, comfortable. Having a backrest makes you feel more comfortable, especially if you are going to spend a lot of time sitting in the garden.

The second requirement is safety, all connections between the individual parts of the bench must be durable. The bench must withstand heavy loads from several people. That's why, Special attention you need to pay attention to fittings and fasteners, they must be made of high-quality steel. If the bench is made of metal, then the welds must also be of high quality and well protected.

Since the furniture will be located in the garden, the material from which it is made must withstand moisture, solar radiation and temperature changes.

We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the method of constructing a simple wooden bench with the back of your hands. The length of the seat with the back will be about 145-150 cm. This bench accommodates three people. The back angle is about 22 degrees. The width of the seat is about 40 cm.

In the process of working on a garden seat, you will need:

  • wooden blanks, the dimensions of which are predetermined by drawings;
  • blanks for the manufacture of legs and holders;
  • shorts that reinforce the design of the bench;
  • self-tapping screws and various fasteners;
  • electric jigsaw, with which wood is cut;
  • grinding machine, for material processing;
  • screwdriver;
  • brushes;
  • antiseptic primer, paintwork materials.

If possible, buy ready-made boards immediately by the size of the blanks. Otherwise, use an electric jigsaw to cut them.

After cutting the wood, it is carefully processed. Previously manufactured parts can be polished. To process the end sections, use electric planer. It also helps to round corners.

Next, the long legs are processed, holding the frame part of the back. For this, markings are first applied to them, and then they are processed with observance of the slope. Initially, the height of the seat should be noted, which is 40 cm. This part of the board does not require additional processing. Next, on the next part, the part is cut at an angle of 18 degrees. Please note that the cuts on each of the legs should be the same. Otherwise, the bench will turn out to be asymmetrical.

Initially, in the design of the bench, you need to assemble the supporting legs. The interval between them is 28 cm. Make sure that this interval is observed between two pairs of legs. Use a beam to connect the legs to each other. We recommend using the double strapping option, in this way, it will be possible to significantly improve the strength of the bench.

After assembling the two sides of the bench, they are connected using boards. For fixing boards to support legs use self tapping screws. Please note that the interval between the boards is 20 mm, it must be equal in all parts of the bench. These gaps significantly increase the life of the bench, as air circulates through them and moisture is removed.

Further actions are aimed at strengthening design features benches. In order to increase the level of stability of the bench, it is necessary to perform additional reinforcement. For this, executing bottom trim with the help of a beam.

Next, a backrest is installed on a bench made of wood with your own hands. For its manufacture will require two boards. The first is fixed at an interval of 20 cm between it and the seat, and the second at an interval of 18 cm from the first.

On this, the manufacture of a bench with a backrest with your own hands is completed. The next step is to process the wood. various formulations which will protect it from moisture and insects. To improve attractiveness appearance benches, it is covered with varnish or paint. Special impregnations protect the wood from the effects of fungus or mold. To achieve the perfect gloss of the surface, the wood can be polished.

Do-it-yourself metal bench for giving

In the process of working on a garden bench with your own hands, you will need:

  • profile pipe, the diameter of which depends on the size and strength of the bench;
  • boards that will serve as a seat;
  • welding machine for connecting pipes to each other;
  • grinders;
  • grinding machine;
  • anti-corrosion composition;
  • paints for working with wooden surfaces;
  • fasteners;
  • hammer and bolts.

For additional decoration of benches, use forged elements that are installed on it by using a welding machine.

Before starting work, prepare drawings for the bench with your own hands. Decide on the cross section of the pipes used in the work. The best option would be to use a pipe measuring 3x3 cm. In the process of working on an average bench without a back, you will need about eleven meters of pipe. To cut parts, use a grinder or a hacksaw for metal.

In the process of work, do not forget about safety rules. To create the long parts of the seat, use two 230 cm blanks. For the long parts of the rectangular structure, 60 cm blanks will be used, six of them will be needed. In addition, it is necessary to prepare six parts with a size of 45 cm.

Wooden boards will become the basis for the manufacture of eight bars. Connecting bars with metal frame made with bolts and nuts. Please note that fasteners should have a round and flattened hat, which in the future will not cling to the clothes of people who are sitting on a bench.

To assemble a simple steel bench with your own hands, follow the recommendations below:

1. The long parts of the blanks are located in a horizontal position, and the short parts are in a vertical position.

2. In the process of welding the parts together, make sure that the angles at which they are connected to each other are straight.

3. The option of adjusting the bench in length is possible. If the length of the bench increases, then the number of supporting components increases.

4. After welding the pipes, it is necessary to clean all the joints, as well as equip the holes for fixing the fasteners.

5. frame part benches must be coated with an anti-corrosion solution.

6. Before fixing wooden parts, you need to cover them with paintwork material or stains.

7. At the final stage of the bench assembly, the boards are fixed on the surface.

Wooden boards on the bench can be replaced with steel parts in the form profile pipes. In order to improve the aesthetic appeal of the bench, the steel ends of the rails are equipped with a metal frame that hides the cuts. Duralumin pipes are not welded together. Bolts are used to connect them.

To make a bench with a back, you will need to use more material. In this case, the convenience and comfort of operating such a bench will be higher.

In any case, when making a garden bench with your own hands, you should be guided primarily by the number of people who will rest on it, the materials that are available. Only in this case, it will be possible to get a high-quality and optimal place for recreation and free time.

Respite during the day is just as necessary as sleep at night. To smoke at work in a summer cottage, sit in the shade after long working days, enjoy the long-awaited evening atmosphere or even go in for sports - comfortable wooden benches are used for this.

Buying chic furniture for the street - now few people can afford such a ruin of a wallet. Making a bench with your own hands according to the drawings is a triple benefit:

  • A practical product made of wood, which takes into account all individual wishes and elements, an order of magnitude higher than stamped factory models, focused on saving material. Ordering a bench for an individual master also does not always live up to expectations.
  • Do-it-yourself manufacturing will require costs only for Consumables, and if they already exist, then it will do without investments.
  • Construction of interior and landscape elements to give to your own taste can hardly be called work. It is always a pleasure to create something new for yourself with knowledge of the matter, so that later you can be proud and enjoy the labors of your work.

Why wood?

Wood is the most suitable material to make a shop with your own hands. This is due to its qualities:

Requirements for material and tools

Wood must be of high quality. For the bench, you should choose elements without knots, cracks, rotten areas. The convenience of processing and connecting parts, as well as the service life of the finished product, depend on this.

Special attention: only dry wood is suitable for starting work. raw board- the reason for the deformation of the bench and its destruction when changing weather conditions. Before processing, the material must be thoroughly dried.

The breed is not limited to anything: to make a garden bench for a summer residence, any available wood will do. Oak is the most durable, but heavy. If you stand a bench all your life in one place, it is better to choose it.

Pine - optimal choice for all types of products. It is the most common building material: wood will be easy to find at home or purchase at the nearest base; affordable, moderately durable, less susceptible to the influence of temperatures. Linden, larch and other species are also used.

Making a bench with your own hands is carpentry work, it will require simple carpentry tools. For the sake of safety and quality of work, it is recommended to use only reliable, serviceable tools. Strongly fixed hammer handles, planer blades, a sharpened hacksaw or a solid disk on electric saw is the key to effective results.

wooden bench construction

The general structure of a wooden bench will come in handy for those who decide to make it with their own hands. Before starting work, it is recommended to make a drawing of the future creation with the dimensions and arrangement of the elements. It will help you quickly make the necessary wooden parts of the bench and correctly assemble them into one garden structure. Each element of the drawing performs its own function, without which the product will be unfinished, unreliable or not convenient enough:

  1. The legs of the bench are supports. For a comfortable landing, they are taken to a height of 40-50 cm from the ground. A lower or higher position forces one to take an unnatural posture, from which rest becomes a torment and an unfavorable strain on the spine. Depending on the length of the wooden benches, a different number of elements are provided: a maximum of every 150 cm. The rear and front supports are at the same level with each other. Usually two pairs are needed as most wooden benches have small dimensions.
  2. Between the legs and seats of the bench, the schemes provide for intermediate transverse and longitudinal beams, because the plane of the seat is not always formed by one board. They are necessarily attached around the perimeter of the seat to the tops of the legs, but if the distance is large, there may be additional transverse elements that are already attached to the longitudinal beams. Intermediate wooden poles may be absent only if the seat of the bench is made of wide boards.
  3. The seat is formed from elements nailed to the intermediate beams and extending beyond the legs by 5-25 cm. It is recommended to choose even boards.
  4. Screed - an element of the strength of the bench. In the drawings, it can be made in different forms, but the function is the same: rigid fastening wooden frame. This can be one beam or board, connected to the ends of the bench legs at a height of 20-30 cm, or corner bars fastening each leg to intermediate beams. The tie prevents loosening of wooden supports.
  5. The backrest is a functional element that divides all benches into two configurations: with and without it. It serves for greater comfort and relaxation of the back. The back should not be vertical at 90 ° - this is an uncomfortable position. The optimal angle of inclination from the plane of the seat is 110-120°. The presence of the back requires the modernization of the drawing of the legs. The footprint needs to be increased. Geometrically, the load is already distributed on the seat and the horizontal projection of the backrest. The back legs of the wooden bench are extended further from the middle or tilted so that the lower points go back. The back consists of supports and a plane. The first are attached to the legs at an angle, boards or slats are attached to them.

General manufacturing principles

The assembly of the wooden parts of the bench is done using screws or nails. The second option is recommended. Quality long nails will provide more strong connection, and soft modern self-tapping screws often break and over time can no longer hold the rigidity of the wood frame.

The wooden surfaces of the seat and backrest must be carefully sanded. The functional planes of the bench can be of different shapes: straight or curved to add beauty and greater convenience. For example, the back of the seat can be made in the form of a boat, and the edges of the seat and back are rounded. The result is achieved by changing the shape drawing cross beams(the upper edges are cut out by a wave).

In order to save material and time, you can often find benches where there are gaps between the slats in the seat and back. A simple example: city alleys. This does not cause inconvenience and, in general, is practical, however, it is recommended to avoid such savings when making your own. Capital garden bench made of wood with high-grade elements is more beautiful and safer for health. The gaps between the seat and back play the role of drafty windows: after sitting on a bench, an unhardened person can get sick.

The order of assembly is not set by anything. If the seats and backs consist of many rails, it is first recommended to make and fasten according to the drawing frame elements and screed, and then perform the formation of planes. If there is no backrest, and the surface of the bench is one large and durable board, it is desirable to use it as a basis for connecting the remaining elements.

Wood processing is a mandatory process. Immediately after the manufacture of the bench, it is necessary to impregnate the wood with insect and fungal protection agents. Further painting will not only give the wood product a finished look, but also protect it from external weather influences.

decorative value

Those who say that there is no beauty in wooden benches, just no taste. This is one of the landscape and interior elements that form general form cottages or premises. Recreation areas primarily attract the attention of visitors and the owners themselves. That's why beautiful products made of wood, made with their own hands - this is wealth for the home and soul.

Experienced craftsmen, designers and creative beginners often surprise with their unique solutions. When using the seemingly most inappropriate wooden elements- gnarled logs, stumps, old snags create masterpieces that are proud and admired. Only individual approach to the manufacture of benches with their own hands will help to make the summer cottage unusual and pleasant.

Product Application

The bench is an ambiguous element. Application finished products applies to the suburban area, and to living conditions and for specific needs. Some of its structural features in the manufacture depend on where the wooden bench will be used.

The garden bench is most in demand, because it is necessary in any dacha yard. The backless option is characterized by the presence of only the seat surface, there is no element of vertical back support. Such a bench for a summer residence is less convenient, but it is easier to make it yourself according to the drawings.

The option without a back is chosen by those who do not like to sit still for a long time: a couple of minutes of respite and back to work. The low weight of the product and the simple distribution of the load allow the use of thin wooden or even 2 metal legs. for giving is more attractive, convenient, but more difficult to manufacture.

A beautiful and comfortable bench can be placed on the porch of the house, in the gazebo or indoors, where it will play the role of a full-fledged wooden furniture. Benches often designed for this complement soft material: the backs and seats are covered with a blanket or bedspread, upholstered with leatherette on cotton wool or foam rubber, faux fur, etc.

For sports needs (for example, for dumbbells) wooden bench no back - great option get a benefit. Optimal coverage of the seat surface - linoleum with lining.

A bench is an indispensable element of any suburban area. Today, such structures perform many important functions: from their direct purpose to giving the garden unique design.

Many owners of a suburban area prefer to build benches on their own, since this simple task does not take much time and money.

There are several basic materials that are used as the basis for building benches.

Wood

The most popular option is wood. It is believed that it is from this material that the most aesthetic designs are obtained.

Due to the universal aesthetic characteristics of the material, wooden benches fit perfectly into the landscape of any garden. It is important to consider that the benches are constantly in the open air. Therefore, it is necessary to choose those types of wood that are characterized by maximum resistance to atmospheric phenomena.

These include: hazel, oak, cherry pine, and larch. For additional protection the material is coated with a special varnish.

Metal

Metal is popular for the production of benches for many reasons: durability, practicality, resistance to precipitation, ease of operation. As the best option for the garden are most often made openwork designs with interesting patterns. Alternatively, you can focus on minimalism.

Stone

Stone benches are impressive and monumental. Main materials: granite, marble, quartzite. In some cases, raw stone is used to create a unique design, in others a stone with a smooth surface is used.

Plastic

Plastic is the most affordable convenient option. It is considered more seasonal and budgetary than aesthetic and decorative. However, at correct design plastic bench, it can become a decoration of the garden. Colorful pillows, lanterns, flowers and much more are often used for decor.

Varieties of benches

Garden benches are traditionally divided into several categories. The criterion for the division is the location.

They are usually installed near the threshold, which determines the choice of material. Design experts insist that the appearance of the front bench should match the exterior. country house. Thus, if the building is made of stone, then the bench, respectively, must also be made of stone.

water bench

The main purpose is the possibility of a comfortable pastime near the reservoir. For the construction of structures, it is recommended to choose waterproof materials - artificial or natural stone.

It can be located virtually anywhere in the suburban area. Plastic is usually used as the base, as it is lightweight and easy to clean.

An indispensable option for hardworking summer residents. Garden benches are installed so that the owners of the site can comfortably relax while working in the garden. To ensure the aesthetic pleasure that accompanies the rest, the structures are located next to the flower beds.

This variety can also be called the "bench of loneliness." The fact is that they are usually placed in the most remote places of the garden, so that a person has the opportunity to hide from prying eyes. A popular material for manufacturing is wood.

seasonal bench

This is a foldable design that is lightweight. Thus, the task of transferring the bench from one place to another is greatly facilitated: in the summer - in the shade, in autumn or spring - in sunny places. Optimal material- plastic.

Do-it-yourself wood bench

There are many different types wooden benches. We will look at a few of them.

Standard wooden bench

Materials:

  • croaker - a board with bark on one side - 2 trimmings one and a half meters long;
  • bars - 2 pieces;
  • trimming bars - 2 pieces 15x20 centimeters.

Step 1. We dig two holes, align them in depth.

Step 2. We align the corners between the uprights and the bars so that it is comfortable to sit on the bench afterwards.

Step 3 We nail the bars with nails 200 millimeters.

Step 4. We bury the blanks.

Step 5. We tamp.

Step 6. We nail the back to the racks.

Step 7. We nail the back to the bars.

Step 8. We process wood with special enamel or varnish.

The described option is an ordinary country bench, which rather acts as functional option than a decorative element.

List of materials:

  • suitable boards - cedar is best;
  • simple pencil;
  • roulette;
  • saw;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • nails;
  • hammer;
  • polyurethane adhesive;
  • plant pots;
  • priming;
  • plants.

Bench manufacturing technology

Step 1. Armed with a calculator and a tape measure, we calculate the dimensions of the bench.

Step 2. We grind the boards in such a way that there are no notches, burrs and other defects on them.

Step 3. Cut out 46 segments of the same length (about 50 centimeters each).

Step 4. Set aside 6 segments to the side for further construction of the turret.

Step 5. We assemble the support boxes from 40 segments.

To do this, we put two segments parallel to each other, and then we put two more segments perpendicular to them from above. Thus, we lay out the rest of the strips to make a turret. We fix the corners with glue and self-tapping screws for greater strength. There are 20 strips per box.

Step 6. We take long boards and start making a frame for the future design. To do this, lay the boards on their side and fix them in the middle with a transverse bar.

Step 7 We fasten the frame to the support boxes with self-tapping screws and glue.

Step 8. We make a "turret" from the remaining 6 segments. To do this, we lay out the straps on one of the support boxes in the same way as we did before.

The last row must be made continuous with the help of short segments that are inserted between the walls of the boxes.

Step 10. If desired, we make “window sills” on the top row by adding four polished boards with oblique corners there.

Step 12. We take long boards and cover them with a future seating area.

Step 13. We install pots with plants in the turrets.

It is very beautiful and simple design, which does not take up much space, but contributes to pleasant leisure.

We will consider the production technology of the simplest country bench without a back. It takes only a few hours to assemble the bench. The basis of this design is a profile pipe.

Set of tools:

  • apparatus for welding;
  • profile pipe;
  • steel corner;
  • Bulgarian.

Step 1. We determine the location of the future bench, we carry out the appropriate calculations. The standard length of such a bench is 120 centimeters.

Step 2. With the help of a grinder, we cut off three metal blanks 120 centimeters long. They will act as a seat.

Step 3. Evenly lay the blanks on flat surface. You can use a stove.

Step 4. We take a steel corner, cut off two crossbars.

Step 5. We apply the crossbars perpendicular to the blanks, stepping back from the edges about ten centimeters, and weld them.

Step 6. We weld two bench legs to the corners, the length of which is adjusted according to the wishes of the site owners.

Step 7. Weld to the legs cross bar, stepping back from the bottom of the seat about 20-25 centimeters.

Step 8. We make two crossbars from the trimmings of the corners.

Step 9. We weld these crossbars to the bases of the legs of the bench.

Step 10: Apply protective covering on metal.

Step 11 Installing the bench.

If desired, you can modify the design by welding the railing and back to it. bright paint will give the bench an interesting appearance.

Construction from improvised materials

First of all, it is necessary to decide what materials will be used as the frame of the structure. It can be:

  • stones;
  • wooden pallets;
  • bricks;
  • bottles.

Also in the process you will need the following materials: clay, straw, water, sand, paint, brushes.

Preparing a frame from pallets

  1. We fill the bottles with soil.
  2. We lay them in several layers on a pillow of sand and gravel.
  3. We tie the bottles with wire.

Preparing a clay solution

Stage 1. Mix straw with sand and clay.

Stage 2. Add water to the mixture and stir the contents of the container.

Stage 3. Roll small balls out of the solution with our hands.

Stage 4. We apply the balls to the pre-prepared frame, thus forming the outlines of the future bench.

Stage 5. We cover the finished bench with polyethylene so that the solution gradually dries and does not crack.

It is believed that clay benches can stand for up to a hundred years without losing their attractive appearance. Besides, that's enough economical option, which will certainly give any garden originality.

Choose the option that will fit well into the garden plot and bring maximum satisfaction.
