How to make a bath with a barrel with your own hands. Do-it-yourself barrel bath: an economical option for giving. What the owners say

Construction of a full-fledged bath building on the one used in the summer suburban area is not always appropriate, since the cost of its manufacture is quite high. Sometimes it is preferable to use the budget option of a bath, made from scratch in just a couple of days. At the same time, externally, such a structure can have a completely finished and attractive appearance (due to the use of special methods of exterior decoration).

In the article we will talk about how to make a barrel bath with your own hands, what materials to use, as well as drawings, diagrams, photo and video instructions.

The longitudinal dimensions of such structures range from 2 to 6 meters; moreover, the smallest buildings usually consist of only one steam room with a stove.

Buildings of large dimensions may include a washing room, a rest room, as well as an impromptu porch with a canopy.

Material

To build a barrel bath, you can use wood from such well-known species as fir, spruce or larch. Taking into account special conditions operation in a summer cottage (precipitation, sudden changes in outside temperatures, as well as high humidity), it is best to use moisture-resistant types of wood. These species include cedar and larch, the high cost of which fully pays off with the possibility of their long-term operation.

As for the shape of the blanks for the manufacture of an impromptu bath, a well-planed edged board with a special “thorn-in-groove” connection can be used as such.

For the convenience of assembling the structure, it is desirable to give the typesetting elements rounded outlines by selecting a part of the material according to a special template. When using ordinary flat boards, workpieces of small width should be selected, the radial size of which allows you to bring the shape of the structure as close as possible to a circle.

Base

There is usually no need for a foundation. It is enough to prepare a flat area and place a special base on it, which serves as a reliable support for a rounded structure.

As such a platform can be used:

  • fully concreted or asphalted area;
  • concreted platform with paving slabs laid out along the screed;
  • an ordinary well-compacted soil surface with a wooden shield laid on it;

In addition, an old reinforced concrete slab suitable size.

When assembling the support base, try to adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. For its arrangement, a high-quality edged board with a thickness of at least 5 cm, pre-treated with a special impregnation or any other composition that protects the wood from decay, should be used.
  2. The distance between the transverse supporting boards should be no more than 1.5 meters, and their total number should be selected based on the size of the bath.
  3. During the assembly process, a rounded recess is made on the cross-beam boards, exactly repeating the contours of the structure installed on them (when preparing the recess, be sure to ensure that the unselected part of the board is at least 10 cm on each side of it).
  4. To give the structure additional rigidity when assembling the structure, you should use metal blanks installed in corner connections and at the joints individual elements grounds.

Assembly order

The assembly of the body of the bath begins with the installation of partitions fixed on the cross members of the base. When arranging them, one should not forget about special openings designed for the installation of door and window blocks, as well as processing wood material special protective impregnation.

Then, several boards are laid on the already finished oval base. desired length, interconnected by the method of "thorn in the groove". Upon completion of the preparation of a part of the circle sufficient to fix the end partitions, the latter are installed in place and securely fixed. After that, you can safely continue to form a circle from the boards based on the partitions.

The required rigidity of the construction of the bath-barrel is provided through the use of tightening metal hoops. For reliable adhesion of the enclosing hoops, special iron clamps are used, through which later (after the wood has dried) it will be possible to tighten the structure, preventing the formation of cracks.

As for the exterior finish of the building, its function can be performed by a traditional soft roof mounted on the upper sector of the bath. When arranging it, this part of the barrel is first covered with a waterproofing material (polyethylene film, for example), and then covered with roofing material or bituminous tiles.

And now, you can familiarize yourself with the diagrams and drawings for the manufacture of a barrel bath:

Barrel bath - amusing and very original design. It certainly draws attention. Such buildings have a number of undeniable advantages over their classical counterparts.

Advantages and disadvantages

Barrel-shaped baths stand out for their non-trivial forms. Such structures cannot be unnoticed, they "cling", cause surprise. It is precisely due to the fact that they are round that many of their characteristics exceed the properties of ordinary bath buildings many times over. The undoubted advantages of such barrel-shaped baths:

  • the compactness of the structure implies a small volume for heating;
  • original appearance;

  • fast heating due to the fact that the steam is in a spherical space - in hot weather, such a bathhouse can be flooded in 15-20 minutes, and in winter it will take a little more time - somewhere around an hour;
  • a smaller amount of energy required to solve this problem - if the stove is wood-burning, then literally 7-8 logs will be needed to flood it;
  • a barrel bath is a fairly light structure, so it can be moved if desired, in addition, there are even mobile trailed baths;

  • compared to log cabin baths, it will take only a few days to build a barrel-shaped building (and then, if it is self-assembly);
  • construction does not require a capital foundation;
  • the effect of "thermos" - heat can last a very long time;
  • manufacturers claim that the service life of these buildings can reach 20 years or more;
  • it is very easy to keep the room clean;

  • it's a pretty budget alternative. capital construction large building;
  • a huge selection of a wide variety of structures of this type is presented;
  • The main building element is wood. Properly selected material, in addition to its outwardly attractive appearance, will also give a real therapeutic steam room. Such types of wood as linden and cedar can create a wonderful healing microclimate. But no one forbids the use of aroma oils during the adoption of procedures.

So, if there is not enough free space on the site, you want exclusivity and originality, then better option than a bath-barrel, not to be found. But still, like any other building, barrel-shaped structures have their drawbacks. The main one is the relative constraint of the internal space of the bath. Even if we take the longest length of such structures, it will be only 6 meters. It is quite problematic to turn around on them for a large company. But 2-3 people will be able to take a swim, blow off steam, and chat sincerely.

And there are unscrupulous developers who use not quality materials for construction. Having received the finished building and starting to use it, only over time you can find out that something is not right in the bath. As a rule, when flaws appear, the manufacturer is no longer on the market.

But still, most companies produce reliable, beautiful and comfortable baths that delight the owners with their excellent work for many years.

Kinds

In Russia, barrel baths appeared not so long ago, unlike the Scandinavian countries, from where this “miracle” of engineering thought came to us. There is also a national barrel bath from Japan, the so-called ofuro. The idea of using the shape of a barrel for washing purposes is not new. And because there are many varieties of this kind of baths.

Perhaps the most ancient - mentioned above ofuro. According to Japanese philosophy, visiting such a bath allows you to harmonize the soul, because it combines 4 elements. The tree is the earth, the cauldron (or stove) is the fire, the water fills the barrel, as well as the air you breathe.

The Japanese home bath is an open vertical building, most often round in shape. It is equipped with a stove, which is separated from the swimmer by a special partition. There are variants of designs of an oblong oval shape with a boiler placed outside. But the temperature in such buildings is poorly maintained.

There are also other vertical barrel baths, which are also closed type. The "barrel" is located vertically and has a roof. Such baths are made for one person.

Phyto barrels can also be attributed to the vertical constructions of baths. They are so small that they do not imply a full roof. There is a cutout for the head. The steamer himself usually sits. Most phyto barrels are made from cedar.

Sauna-barrel is the simplest in terms of manufacturing. It does not require a washing department, a drainage system. This is only a steam room, which is created by a sealed room. And you can rinse the heated steamed body in a nearby pool or font, lake, river (if there is an exit to those).

The Russian bath implies the presence of at least two rooms - the one in which they bathe and the one in which they wash. In this regard, there are several nuances that you need to take care of:

  • about how and where the water will go;
  • make a drain pipe, a pit;
  • the building must be erected at a slight angle;
  • secure the area around the oven.

There are also mobile versions of bath-barrels on wheels. They can be made as a trailer, and, accordingly, such a portable bathhouse can be left in your country house, and then you can easily transport it with you to a new vacation spot.

As a rule, baths are used in summer, but if year-round use is necessary, then you need to take care of the insulated version of the building. But if construction is carried out in an area where the climate is not so harsh and in winter frosts do not exceed 10 degrees Celsius, then it is quite possible to use the structure as it is, without additional insulation.

Barrel baths may differ in the location of the entrance. Alternatively, it can be on the side.

The presence or absence of a gazebo, with or without a canopy and without a canopy, can be entered into the design of the bath (as a logical continuation of the bath, but simply an open entrance). A barrel with a side entrance can also have a porch with a canopy. In addition, baths can be equipped with an outdoor outdoor terrace or a veranda with a panoramic window.

Depending on the size, the building can have from 1 to 4 rooms:

  • gazebo at the entrance;
  • a small dressing room;
  • washing room;
  • steam room.

The larger the area, the more options for accommodation different kind devices for comfortable rest: shower, pool or font, toilet. In addition, a bathhouse can be only part of an architectural ensemble - it can overlook the banks of a river or lake, or it can be attached to an overlapping pool or water tank. Over time, any bathhouse can "acquire" an extension, for example, a missing dressing room.

The finished look at the bathhouse becomes after laying the roof, which can be made of bituminous tiles, soft roofing, steel sheets, or can be framed in a gable roof frame. The latest buildings look very original. Polycarbonate roofs also look very impressive.

Speaking of barrel baths, it is worth noting that there are quite unusual buildings of this type. Their shape is not even round, but oval or square, rectangular with rounded corners. There are buildings only with a rounded top. Not so long ago, double-rounded barrel baths appeared. They are equipped with a terrace that follows the contour of the building. The area of such baths is slightly larger than similar buildings, however, their heating properties are slightly lower. Baths may vary exterior finish, window and door decoration.

Depending on what kind of heating is installed in the bath, the building can be heated:

  • wood stove;
  • a stove with a hot water tank;
  • electric stove;
  • electric heater;
  • submersible furnace or boiler (for ofuro or heating fonts);
  • homemade oven.

The oven can be located both indoors and outdoors. As an option - a wood-burning stove inside with a firebox outside, when the logs are thrown outside.

It is worth noting that all kinds of barrel bath buildings can also be divided into two categories - those that are factory-made and completely self-assembled.

Characteristics

There are many options for round baths, each of which has its own characteristics, ranging from size to internal arrangement. Thus, having gone through all the possible options, you can choose your “ideal” bath-barrel.

Dimensions

The smallest bath, located horizontally, is 2 meters long. Its design implies the presence of 1-2 rooms. You can undress here at the entrance, if the bathhouse is equipped with a porch with a visor. The weight of such a building is about 1.5 tons.

The largest barrels reach 6 meters with a little. There can already be up to 3 rooms: a dressing room (with a well-thought-out resting place, a table, clothes hangers, benches), a washing room (with a shower or water containers), a steam room (with comfortable benches and sunbeds); or in the case of a sauna, the washing room can become a relaxation room. On average, the length of each room will be 1-2 meters.

Classic round baths can be of the following sizes - reach 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 meters in length, about 2 meters in diameter (1.95 m is the inner diameter). Quadro, oval baths may have slightly different parameters: 4x4, 3x6. Practically in any bath comfortable beds with a width of 500 mm can be located.

In two-meter baths there is only one room. There are already two in three-four meters - a small locker room and a steam room. The largest have space for three rooms.

As for the height, even tall people can take a steam bath in baths of this type. The ceiling height is over 2 meters.

Forms

The classic shape of a bath-barrel is a circle, or rather, a cylinder located horizontally.

Less common are oval, square or rectangle shapes with rounded corners. In addition, there are options for baths with a semicircular top and a rectangular bottom.

The entrance to both an oval and a quadro-bath can be from the front or from the side. The entrance can be framed by a visor or equipped with a gazebo. And also a bath-barrel can be additionally enclosed in a frame of a gable roof.

Double-rounded baths have rectangular outlines. Vertical bath-barrels are most often round buildings, less often oval or rectangular with rounded corners.

materials

The main performance characteristics of the bath depend on the materials from which it is made. The bath is built of wood, or rather, a specially processed profiled beam with a moon groove or a tenon-groove fastening. For construction, the following types of wood are usually used:

  • Oak- a very high-quality material, which becomes even stronger from exposure to water. It has excellent properties and can serve for many years. It has a beautiful structure, but it is very expensive.
  • Linden- excellent material for a bath. Known for its medicinal properties. Unfortunately, poorly treated wood of this species is easily susceptible to rotting and other negative influences.
  • Aspen- analogue of linden. With its help, you can also create a favorable microclimate. But unlike linden, it is more resistant to harmful effects.

  • Larch- material that does not rot, and therefore will last a very long time. True, the price of round timber of this breed is quite high.
  • Cedar- the only conifer that is strongly recommended as a building material. With it, you can also create a healing microclimate. It has a beautiful unique structure. It has one drawback - it is quite expensive.
  • Fur tree, pine tree and other conifers are not recommended as building material for baths. All due to the fact that under the influence of high temperatures, wood is able to release resins, which can be burned. However, this effect occurs only from temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. And besides, if such wood has undergone a good chamber drying, then this process is minimal.
  • Alder and birch barrel baths are not suitable for building, as they get very hot.

It should be noted that it is possible to use several tree species in construction. For example, the floor is larch, the top is linden, and the finish is aspen. This solution will help save a little on construction.

In addition to wooden elements, you will need ties, which are made of iron tape (strip), or steel hoops. Of course, metal corners, screws and other fasteners will be needed.

Device

Depending on the purpose of the room, right at the doorstep there can be a full-fledged gazebo, in which hangers-hooks are installed, small benches (or chairs) are placed. Next comes the dressing room. It can have the same hanger hooks, benches, and even a small folding table attached to the wall. In the washing room, on the one hand, you can install a shower head, and under it a tray, on the other hand, small shelves for cosmetics, buckets and more. You don't need a lot of furniture in a steam room. It is enough only benches-loungers, on which it is convenient to sit and take a steam bath.

In the production of many manufacturers, there are a lot of sets of barrel baths ready for assembly. It remains only to choose the option you like.

Concerning technical issues, then, as a rule, the barrel-shaped structure is arranged as follows:

  • Must be installed in the washing room wooden pallet or a grate that will provide water drainage. In addition, a drain must be equipped in the floor and a pipe must be installed between the bottom and the sewer.
  • If the water is heated from the stove, then in this case the heating element should be installed between the steam room and the washing room.
  • In the sauna, the stove can be located against the wall or be taken out of the bath.
  • If heating occurs at the expense of the stove inside the room, then it must be isolated to prevent accidental touching.
  • The pipe can be output either from the side or directly in the middle. If this is a sauna bath, then it is necessary to think over all issues related to ventilation and provide a special damper for the chimney.

In conclusion, it is necessary to provide for the use of a strip - the same metal ties, which, in which case (namely, the drying of the tree) will allow the frame to be tightened.

Reviews

Most of the reviews of the owners of bath-barrels are positive. But there are also negative ones. The owners of such structures praise them primarily for their original design, as well as ease of assembly, mobility, and quick warm-up. Many note that this design involves exclusively temporary use only in the warm season. Although there are those who used them in the winter.

Most often, the negative aspects of using such structures are found after several years of use. Often these troubles could have been avoided with proper care and the use of quality materials during construction.

There are a lot of records of bathhouse owners who recently purchased them, in contrast to those who used them for at least 3-4 years. Positive reviews are often so “sweet” that doubts about their reality and non-commercial component involuntarily arise. Therefore, negative comments are especially valuable. Those who are against and scold barrel baths - that is, for sure real buyers, note the following:

  • Over time, the boards dry out, and then it becomes problematic to pull them off and put them on. Although this largely indicates the initially poor quality of building materials - they were not properly dried.
  • In winter, baths do not warm up so quickly and cool down just as quickly. It feels cold from below when there is still steam above. There is no opportunity to sit in the steam room for a long time.

  • The need to monitor the drain, especially when used in cold weather. A drain pipe may burst, and this will lead to poor drainage, stagnation of water and the occurrence of rot.
  • The appearance of mold, fungus, even with proper care - regular ventilation and cleaning.
  • many users summer baths confuses the thickness of the walls. The boards that are used are quite thin - only 4-5 cm.
  • Expensive - for the same amount you can build an ordinary frame or foam block temporary bath, which will be more spacious.

How to do it yourself?

Manufacturers offer turnkey baths. The barrel will either be brought to the site or assembled on site. However, there are also special offers from developers - ready-made kits for self-assembly with detailed step by step instructions for the installation of the structure. True, the price of such kits is not much different from the finished product.

Having decided to assemble a bath-barrel on your own, you need to pay special attention to the quality of the materials used. Otherwise, such a bath will serve as a maximum of 3-4 years.

The boards must be perfectly dry. The dimensions of each board must be identical. In addition, each board must pass milling machine. To connect the elements, a tongue-and-groove connection is used. Such a connection can only be made on professional equipment. In addition, each wooden element must be treated with special protective solutions.

At the design stage, you will need to decide how the windows and doors will be located. They should be marked on the picture.

According to the finished drawing or diagram, the master will cut the following blanks on the cutter:

  • wooden boards for the floor, walls and ceiling with tongue-and-groove fastening with a cross section of no more than 45 * 90 mm;
  • walls and partitions with a section of 50 * 200 mm;
  • bases with semicircular cutouts (the diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the bath). Cross section no more than 40*400 mm. There can be from 2 to 4 such bases, depending on the length and number of rooms.

The required number of boards is calculated by the formula: the circumference is divided by the width of one board.

When all the blanks are ready and pre-processed, you can start assembling.

Bath-barrel must be collected on flat surface(even leveled ground, a paving slab site or a concrete-filled area will do). A solid foundation is not required and is not done. When building a bath-barrel with a steam room, it is necessary to provide a drain system. The site may be slightly sloped.

When the future base is ready, then a bath is already going on it. To begin with, the foundations are fixed. Metal corners, screws and a screwdriver will come in handy here. The supports are placed in increments of 150 cm. The boards should be fixed as firmly as possible, which is why metal corners are useful, which create additional rigidity. These elements are fastened at the corners and at the junction of the transverse and longitudinal slats.

After the first board is laid. It is located exactly in the middle. You need to fix it securely, because it is to it that all other boards will be attached.

According to the technology, boards are attached simultaneously in parallel from two sides. Each detail must adhere tightly to the previous one. The "lunar groove" fastening allows you to connect the boards to each other without using any connecting elements.

When the lower sector is assembled, the boards have filled the entire cutout of the stand, the end walls are attached. In order to put partitions in the side boards, special grooves must be provided.

The final element will be the corrective bar. This detail allows you to minimize gaps.

It remains only to pull the bath with steel cables. When the ties are fixed, take care of the drainage and chimney, installing the stove, laying electrical wiring, sewerage.

If you plan to use the bath all year round, then at this stage it is necessary to warm it. You can insulate the structure using a special foil roll material that can withstand high temperatures. traditional materials for these purposes - mineral wool.

It is worth considering that insulated baths are also sheathed wooden clapboard. And their walls are a 3-layer construction.

Floor, ceiling, walls are ready. Now you can put doors and windows. Please note that they must be installed as tightly as possible. Then you need to go to interior arrangement. Benches, seats, a wooden pallet, a folding table, hangers, shelves - all this is necessary for a comfortable pastime in the bath.

One of the last steps will be the construction of the roof. On a round bath you can put, for example, shingles or other soft roof, or you can build additional frame for a gable roof.

And at the very end of construction, it will be necessary to process all the wooden elements interior decoration baths. Linseed oil- excellent impregnation, which has established itself as additional protection from excess moisture. It would be useful to treat the external surfaces of the bath with a flame retardant composition.

The bath is ready. But don't rush to use it right away. The first firebox will be "technical" in order to finally weather out all the compounds that were used. It is necessary to heat the hot bath for at least 4 hours. Room temperature must be above 60 degrees Celsius. Doors and windows must be open.

Beautiful examples

One of the advantages of a bath-barrel, of course, is its original look. He cannot fail to attract attention. Many, having heard that their friends have such a bath, tend to visit it and personally try its steam.

The interior of the bath-barrel from the inside also looks very original. Most of furniture is made of wood. A spherical wooden room contributes to additional relaxation. Psychologically, it is comfortable, a person feels protected. In the context, it is a "sandwich" of several rooms: locker rooms, dressing room, steam room. And if the bath is made of healing wood, then it also becomes a home clinic, which increases not only immunity, but also mood.

But over time, even such an exclusive can get boring. Many owners begin to decorate the building, and the bathhouse turns into a space shuttle or a submarine or other structures that have a cylindrical shape. Some make a bathhouse under the guise of a fabulous hut, but with an oval elongated shape. The use of glass on a large part of the facade will give the building a touch of high-tech or industrial style. As a winter version, such a bath, of course, will not work, but in the summer it will always please the eye with its original look.

Other owners begin to emphasize the shape of the barrel or further adjust it to the structure of the house (leaving the necessary “gap” of 6 meters), equip it with a roof and a veranda, adjust it to a pool or water tank. (If initially these architectural elements were not included with the bath).

With proper care, a barrel bath will last for decades. Main:

  • Do not forget to ventilate the steam room, and the rest of the premises, for at least 4-5 hours, preferably after each use and if the bath has not been heated for a long time.
  • Do additional "drying" of the bath. It is necessary to start the oven for one to two hours full power and keep doors and windows open.
  • Treat the structure with protective equipment at least once a year.
  • If a wood-burning stove is installed, it is advisable to use firewood not conifers tree. Firewood must be dry.

  • The water tank must be at least half full. This is very important when firing. After use, it is advisable to remove the remaining water from the tank.
  • Regularly check and clean the chimney. Share with friends

What to do if there is not enough time or energy to build a full-fledged bath? In this case, the principles can be applied modular construction. It was they who formed the basis of the technology for the construction of a bath-barrel. You can make such a design yourself, and with proper skill and the availability of tools - even without a partner.

As the name implies, the body of the bath is a cylindrical structure made of boards with a groove connection. To strengthen it, tightening metal plates (analogue of clamps) are installed on the surface. At first glance, the design will ideally fit the functions of the bath. The low cost of construction, the possibility of purchasing ready-made modular elements and the high speed of construction speak for themselves.

However, upon closer analysis, the following shortcomings become apparent:

  • Low wall insulation. In winter, heat loss can negate all attempts to raise the temperature in the room to the desired level.
  • Small area. Most factory models and standard drawings include a small dressing room and a steam room in the design. Together, their area can be up to 12 m², i.e. in fact, bath procedures can simultaneously take up to 3 people.
  • Water supply and sewer connection. The implementation of these procedures is difficult, since in winter there is a high probability of freezing pipes and the formation of an ice plug in them.

If we recall that the premises are planned as a budget option baths, you can not take into account all these shortcomings. The most important advantage design is the possibility of its transportation, which cannot be done with.

Project planning and material selection

First, it is necessary to develop at least elementary project documentation - a drawing of the building and a list of materials for its manufacture.

Now you can find many standard drawings of a barrel bath. Despite the apparent diversity, they all include the following main elements:

Base

It is made of boards, the thickness of which should be at least 5-6 mm. At the first stage, a recess is made on each of them, into which the boards will be installed. To strengthen the structure, the edges are upholstered with fixing formwork.

Assembly elements - edged boards with groove connection

It is best to choose high-quality material - larch or cedar. Their length should correspond to the overall size of the finished structure. Mounting recesses are made on the surface for installing partitions. It is not recommended to divide the components along the length, as this will lead to loss thermal insulation properties designs.

Partitions

On wooden base boards are stuffed, and then cut in such a way that the result is a round structure. Its diameter should be less than the outer bath by the thickness of the wall boards. If manufactured internal partition and an external entrance, you should leave room for a doorway.

Additional elements

These include slatted flooring and floors. They are also made from wood.

Next, equip the installation site of the structure. To do this, choose any place on land plot, but it is recommended to mount the bath on a hill. A small hole is dug up to a depth of 0.5 m and dimensions exceeding the dimensions of the bath by 40-50 cm. A sand-gravel mixture is poured into its bottom, which is carefully compacted. After the final alignment, you can proceed with the assembly.

The bottom row of boards is nailed to the installed frame. It is necessary to track the location of the mounting recesses - they should be one common groove. After that, partitions are installed and fixed. Their plane must be strictly perpendicular to the level of the sand deck.

After that, the rest of the wall boards are nailed. A correction rail is installed between the first and last. It should be in the shape of a wedge. With its help, it will be possible to adjust the gap in case of swelling or thermal expansion of the boards. Further, the entire structure is pulled together with a metal tape. Holes are drilled on the floor surface to remove water. This is done in at least 3 places. On this, the construction of the body of the barrel bath is completed.

On final stage floors, flooring and doors are installed. Special attention safety precautions should be taken when installing the boiler. This place needs to be covered fire resistant material. For convenience, holes are made in the wall of the bath for the supply of water and electricity. The resulting structure, if necessary, can be transported in any convenient way - on a trailer or in a truck.

A lot of owners country houses dreams of a cozy and compact bath, which will not take up much space and will neatly fit into any landscape of the backyard. The best option in conditions of limited space, there will be a miniature barrel bath, which you may have already heard about somewhere. Today we will discuss possible models of mobile structures, talk about the construction technology, including the design stage, designate the materials of manufacture and decoration, and also share all the nuances of the arrangement.

What people are just not ready to invent, if only to equip a miniature and comfortable bath without spending too much. The bath-barrel has become such a masterpiece of architecture - extremely simple in everyday use, convenient and compact design, capable of radically transforming the area near the house with only its appearance. And the aroma of natural wood and healing properties baths, which everyone knows about, will bring many pleasant moments of relaxation and healing. Yes, you can work hard for this!

Comparing a barrel bath with traditional steam rooms, it is worth noting several of its advantages:

  • Relatively light weight. A structure made of larch weighs only 1.5 tons, while a stationary brick model weighs up to 5 tons.
  • Mobility. At any time, you can change the location of the structure on the site.

  • High heating rate. It will take only a quarter of an hour to warm up the bathhouse to 90ºС (in summer).
  • Compactness. For the construction and installation of a bath-barrel on the site, you will need only 8-10m², which is very convenient if you have a very small area.
  • Unusual architectural solutions and extraordinary finishes. In such a bathhouse it is not only pleasant to relax, but it can be used as a separate decorative element within the available territory.

  • Economy of construction. The construction of any other bath will cost you many times more: just remember the cost of foundation work and the cost of materials.

  • Ergonomic space. Despite its small size, it can easily fit up to 6 people inside.

The lasting effect of a thermos, which is ensured by the multi-layer structure, its rounded geometry and high-quality thermal insulation. All this ultimately ensures economical consumption of fuel resources and electricity.

Variety of barrel baths

Needless to say, in our country such a steam room is still perceived as a kind of know-how, despite the fact that in Europe and Scandinavia such designs have already become familiar. In fact, a barrel-bath is a barrel-shaped log house equipped with a mobile steam generator stove, which works productively both on wood and on electricity.

There are several types of barrel baths:

1. An ordinary Russian bath, combining a steam room and a washing room.

2. Steam room with dry steam, which will ideally harmonize with a cool water font.

3. Ofuro (Japanese variety), very similar to a font, but equipped with a heating system from a stove.

Russian bath

Habitual and familiar to all ordinary bath, consisting of a steam room and washing.

Since the Russian bath involves the use of water, the barrel design project should provide for the organization of a drainage system. A slight tilt of the structure will help eliminate the possibility of stagnant water.

When designing and building a Russian bathhouse, the stove should be placed between the steam room and the washing room. The part of the oven equipped with a tank for heating water must go into the washing room. In the steam room there will be a container with stones heated from the firebox. In order not to get burned in the washing room on the design of the firebox, it should be fenced off.

The stove itself must be small size because the space in the barrel bath is very limited. From all sides, the stove is sheathed with heat-resistant materials.

Steam room on dry steam

This is a bathhouse with one room and a nearby pool, natural pond or font.

Barrel - sauna

Experts say that organizing a sauna barrel is an order of magnitude easier than a regular steam room. All that is required to ensure the tightness of the structure is the absence of cracks in the walls and on the floor surface. A small hole is often made on the roof, which is partially or completely (depending on desire) closed with a valve.

Drainage in the sauna is not necessary. The room is equipped with wide benches and a stove with a heated heater.

An electric stove can also be installed in the sauna barrel.

Interesting. Such a sauna can be placed on the site both vertically and horizontally. With the latter option, the area of \u200b\u200bthe room doubles!

Bath Ofuro from Japan

The Japanese version of the bath is very easy to use, and its main feature is the absence of a roof, which does not prevent you from enjoying the harmony of fire, water and air even in winter.

A slightly elongated barrel is placed on a wooden deck. Inside, the structure is equipped with all necessary amenities: a stove and wooden benches. The stove is often taken out to a safe distance and equipped with a special partition that protects against burns.

However, at the same time, it will take more time to warm up the water in the bath and maintain it at the same level, which means that fuel consumption will increase.

Choosing a material

The operational properties and convenience of a barrel bath largely depend on the wood from which it will be built. If for the construction of an ordinary bath, almost any material is used and only for interior decoration a tree is selected, then in our case the question is with the choice suitable wood it is better to decide immediately.

Take your choice of wood very seriously!

For example, do not consider conifers. They are enriched with resinous components, which, when the wood is heated, are released and often burn the skin.

Material preparation

It is not enough to know which wood is better to use for the construction of a barrel bath. It is important that the wood is of high quality and pre-treated.

First of all, all the boards selected for the bath must be adjusted to one size. If the wood will be processed independently, then choose better boards 90 mm wide and 50 mm thick.

If you do not have your own woodworking equipment, then it is better to contact the master, who, based on the drawing, will produce lumber of the required dimensions. Once again, we note the painstaking process of manufacturing blanks for a bath: all boards must be the same size.

Depending on the expected diameter of the barrel, the number of boards is calculated. For a more accurate calculation, a drawing is made on which a circle is drawn. Then it is exactly divided by the width of the board. The length of the boards determines the size of the room (2.5-6 meters).

Installation is not complete without fasteners (nails, stainless steel screws).

Do-it-yourself barrel bath: step by step instructions

Working with the base

Since the weight of the finished structure is not too large, it is quite possible to do without making a foundation. The most important thing is to find a solid and even platform where the bath-barrel will be placed in the future, to build a reliable foundation, thanks to which our structure will be held.

An asphalted or paved area with paving slabs will perfectly cope with the role of the site. At worst, a rammed surface covered with turf is also suitable.

To create the base, use high-quality edged boards from 5 mm thick. Support boards fixed at a distance of 1.5 meters, so their number is directly determined by the dimensions of the structure. On cross bars rounded notches are made, corresponding to the contours of the future bath. For drawing contours, cardboard patterns are used. The width of the remaining part of the bar must exceed 10 cm.

All prepared boards are fixed to each other with screws as firmly as possible, and metal corners are used to give additional rigidity. They are fastened at the corners of the structure and at the junction of the transverse and longitudinal strips.

To fasten the elements of the bath-barrel, it is convenient to use screws and a screwdriver.

Attention! Before bonding all parts, do not forget to treat them with a special impregnation. After assembly, it will be problematic to do it qualitatively!

Construction of the front and back walls

As you move on to the next step, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Both walls must be perfectly shaped.

The back wall should provide for the presence of windows (one or two, depending on the project), and the front wall - a doorway. The location of these elements determines the area for placing the bars on which the boards are fixed. They are attached across the structure.

Making a doorway is not an easy task (Fig. 28)

Using bars and boards, an equilateral square is made. Its middle is determined, and then a circle is drawn, which is carefully cut out jigsaw.

In the finished circle, markings are made for doors and windows, and it is also sawn out. For reliability, the holes obtained can be reinforced around the perimeter with wooden blocks.

Bath-barrel walls: preparation of boards

At this stage, boards are being prepared for cladding the walls of the bath-barrel. Grooves are made on each board at the level of installation of the front and rear walls. Their width is comparable to the thickness of the boards from which the walls are made, and the depth is 8-10 mm. These grooves will fix the "bottoms" of the bath. If the steam room will consist of two rooms, then the grooves will have to be cut not in two places, but in three, because the separating partition will also be fixed in them.

Creating windows and doors

The absolute tightness of closed rooms is one of the most important points in self-manufacturing.

It is still better to entrust this painstaking and precise work to the master, providing him with all the calculations and sizes.

Bath assembly stage

The base for the steam room is mounted on a solid base with a slight slope. A drain pipe must be connected to it in advance.

On the basis of the prepared arcs, the middle is marked. The first board of the bath-barrel will be attached to it.

On both sides of the first board, the rest are installed along the entire length of the base arc.

Attention! Be sure to ensure that all cut grooves form one recess. This closes the floor.

The next step is the installation in the grooves of the fixed boards of the back and front walls. Make sure they fit snugly and can stand without support! Thanks to these walls, the geometry of the building will be formed.

Subsequent boards are attached to the installed walls (front, middle and back). Work is carried out in parallel on one side and the other.

After the boards are installed, the structure must be pulled together with metal hoops. This will provide additional rigidity to the structure. Instead of hoops, ribbons are often used, at the ends of which holes are made. A bolt is passed through them, tightly tightened and twisted with a nut.

Windows and doors are being installed.

At the final stage, roofing. Most often installed on the roof flexible tile And metal sheets. The gable roof looks very impressive. Finishing slopes is done using metal tiles or corrugated board.

If the barrel bath project provides for a veranda, then it's time to start arranging it and installing benches.

We equip the bath-barrel from the inside

Before equipping the interior of the bath, the walls are covered with a special linen composition. The oily liquid will reliably protect the wood from excess moisture, deformation and cracking.

Linseed oil - reliable protection wood.

Attention! Not only the wall is processed, but also all wooden elements.

Organization of water drain (Fig. 40)

Drainage features

If you plan to build a bathhouse where a large amount of water will be consumed, then you cannot do without a reliable drainage system. You can, of course, drill small holes in the floor through which the liquid will seep into the ground. But with frequent use of the bath, the liquid can simply accumulate, which will lead to rot and bad smell dampness, then the floor boards will become unreliable and in the end it will simply fail. It is for this reason that experts recommend taking care of organizing a high-quality drainage system in advance.

To do this, the bath-barrel is mounted at a slight tilt back. In this case, the water will not accumulate, but will all drain to the very end of the washing room, where a drain will be pre-installed - a special hole with a pipe leading to drain hole. The pipe connected to the floor must be insulated. Otherwise, it will crack from the temperature difference at the most inopportune moment.

The construction of a barrel bath will take you only a few days, and it will delight you with endless heat for years. This is a very good option for country house and dachas.

Video - building a do-it-yourself barrel bath

Usually on suburban area in addition to the house, there is also a bathhouse, because it good opportunity cleanse the body after working on the beds and just relax the soul. Most often, a standard building is arranged. However, sometimes a do-it-yourself barrel bath is built. The construction of such an object is not a particularly difficult task. The most important thing is to use quality materials and not deviate from technology.

Create a bath in your suburban area

Traditional sizes

The most compact round-shaped structures are 2 m long. The design of such a building assumes the presence of only 2 rooms. You must undress at the entrance. It will be more convenient if the building has a porch with a canopy. The usual weight of the building does not exceed 1.5 tons. In addition to compact structures, there are also larger barrel baths - Their length is 6 m.

The internal arrangement of the bath-barrel of three rooms:

  1. Locker room. There is a seating area, clothes hangers and a table.
  2. Washing room. It hosts shower equipment and a container of water.
  3. Steam room. It is equipped with comfortable benches. If a sauna is arranged in a round structure, then the washing room can also act as a rest room. The usual length of each room in such a structure does not exceed 2 m.

Bath barrel will be an excellent element of decor on your site

The classic version of the building has a length in the range from 2 to 7 m. This is confirmed by many drawings of a bath-barrel created by professionals. They often have these exact dimensions. The diameter of the structure does not exceed 2 m. Square-like objects and oval-type structures may have slightly different dimensions: 4 × 4 m and 3 × 6 m.

In this video, we will look at how a barrel bath is assembled:

In any building, regardless of size, you can easily accommodate on sunbeds. Their standard width is 500 mm. The two-meter building has only one room inside. Buildings 4 m long contain 2 rooms - usually a dressing room and a steam room. In most structures, the ceiling height is more than 2 m.

Common forms

The classic form of such structures is a circle. Less often you can find square or oval versions of such buildings. Sometimes they may look like a rectangle with rounded corners.

There are also varieties of objects that have a semicircular top or a rectangular bottom. The entrance, regardless of the form, can be located:

  1. Front.
  2. From the side.

It can be designed in the form of a visor or stylized as a gazebo. Doubly rounded structures in most cases have a rectangular shape. Vertical structures look like round structures. They are oval or rectangular objects with corners.

Main types

After deciding to build a barrel-bath on the territory of the site, one serious problem arises: which version of the rounded design to choose. All varieties can be divided into three main groups:

  1. Finnish bath. Its features - heat and dry steam. It is preferable that during steam procedures a person in a bath has a font or a wooden bucket with cold water nearby.
  2. Russian steam room. In the steam room, moist dense steam is created, and brooms are used for procedures. Usually such a building has two rooms: washing department and a couple.
  3. japanese ofuro. It looks like an ordinary bathtub made of wood. Its heating is due to the furnace built into the structure.

Each type of round bath has nuances of design and construction. They should be guided by when choosing a suitable design. Supporters of traditional procedures are best to choose the option with a building device with a traditional "heater".

Advantages and disadvantages

The main thing that attracts many people to round baths is their unusual shape. Such a structure does not go unnoticed and surprises any person who sees such a structure for the first time. The rounded shape provides improved performance. But in order for a high-quality do-it-yourself barrel bath to appear on the site, the drawings should be studied before work begins, and besides, they will help in drawing up an individual project.

The main advantages of barrel baths are:

  1. No need for a solid foundation. To install a barrel bath, you just need to prepare an area on which you can lay an even coating.
  2. Small size, allowing you to place such a design even in a small area.

Making a structure with your own hands is not big problem, since there will be no difficulties during assembly or disassembly of the structure. The main thing is to focus on the drawing when performing all manipulations. When conducting installation work you can refuse to use special equipment and do the work yourself with the help of solar cells.

The structure is lightweight and quite mobile, so if necessary it can be easily moved to another location.

There are no sharp corners in the design, so all free space is used as efficiently as possible. In addition, the rounded shape of the structure ensures rapid heating of the internal space.

In the building, you can easily install an electric furnace or place familiar wood-burning equipment. Here everything will largely depend on what is required - dry or wet steam.

For all their advantages, such structures also have disadvantages. In autumn, it is necessary to carry out work on the insulation of the object. This is a mandatory event if the structure will be used during the cold season. To perform the procedure, roll heat insulators are used.

Choice of wood

To obtain a high-quality rounded structure, it is necessary to take the task of its construction seriously. One of the important points is the competent choice of wood. This is very important, since such buildings do not have additional interior cladding.

Experienced experts do not recommend the use of coniferous wood, as they contain a large amount of resinous substances that, when heated, are released into in large numbers which can cause skin burns. In addition, the resin negatively affects the respiratory system.

The only exception among conifers is cedar. The structure of this breed is the most suitable option. In such a bath, you can not only cleanse your body, but also improve your health. In addition, cedar wood has a high resistance to moisture and is immune to bacteria. It has a beautiful pattern that creates a special atmosphere in the bath-barrel.

Most often from hardwood lime is used. During bath procedures, a pleasant aroma and a special atmosphere arise, which has a healing effect on the human body.

Building instructions

When the owner of the site has decided what material to build the object from, it is necessary to purchase wood in the right amount and treat it with antiseptic compounds. After that, it is thoroughly dried, after which you can proceed to construction. The first thing to do is study the blueprints. The dimensions of the bath-barrel can be different, so you should choose the specific dimensions of the object, focusing on personal needs.

Foundation laying

First you need to lay the beams. They will act as a base, providing support for the building above the surface.

To create a base, it is best to use beams with the following dimensions: thickness - 4 cm; width - 35 cm. In total, 2-4 pieces are required. Here everything largely depends on how long the structure will have. It is necessary to cut recesses in them, into which the boards of the lower part of the structure will then be laid and fixed.

After that, the elements are placed on the prepared surface. They should be located at an equal distance from each other. In this case, the spacing between the elements should be such that the first one supports the wall with the doorway, and the last one is under the back wall of the object.

After laying all the beams, it is necessary to carry out manipulations to fasten them. Upon completion of this operation, a rigid frame should form. Thanks to him, the displacement of the base elements to the side after the installation of the main structure on it will be excluded.

Wall device

The next step is to make the front and rear walls of the barrel. They should turn out smooth, and their surface is absolutely even, without cracks and other defects. On the walls it is necessary to apply markings under the windows and the door. The bars are fixed depending on the placement option. Boards will be sewn on them, which will form side walls barrels. The fixation of the bars should occur across the structure.

It is necessary to assemble the frame, and then sew prepared lumber onto it. When finished, it should be a square. You should calculate its middle, and then draw a circle on the surface, and then cut a circle along the contour. The marking of both walls is carried out in the same way.

After that, in each circle, markings should be made for one or more windows, and also outline a place for a doorway. Next, holes are cut. If this becomes necessary, the resulting openings are strengthened with the help of bars.

Marking boards, windows and doors

Then, actions are taken aimed at preparing and marking the boards, with the help of which the side walls of the building will be arranged. In places where the skin adjoins the front and rear walls, special grooves should be created. In their width, they should match the thickness of the boards in the walls and have a depth of 8-10 mm. It is in these recesses that the bottoms will have to be inserted further.

In such a design, doors and windows must be hermetically sealed so as not to release heated air. But the manufacture of such products is not for everyone, therefore best solution will place an order for the production of windows and glass door. Correct installation structures will ensure the tightness of the structure.

Assembly process

The assembly of the structure begins directly with the placement of the support beams in the prepared place. They should be at some angle. It is necessary to bring in advance the communications through which the used water will be discharged. Later, you will need to connect the ebb from inside the bath.

In the cut-out recess of each beam, it is necessary to mark the center to which the first board should be attached. Further, on each side, it is necessary to sequentially fix the remaining ones until the base is completely filled. At the same time, attention should be paid so that the grooves located on the beams form a single contour.

This operation allows you to sheathe the floor of the future building. The next step is to fix the front and back wall baths in grooves. After completing this manipulation, they should hold on quite firmly and require no additional support. Already at this stage, the shape of the structure being built will be visible.

When the installation of the front and rear structural elements is completed, you can proceed to the plating of the sides. Boards are fixed on the side walls. They are laid out, and then fixed in parallel on both sides of the barrel.

Making a bath-barrel with your own hands is original version for giving. An important point is the observance of construction technology, as well as right choice material. Best used for construction works linden. The use of such wood allows you to get a reliable home-made structure with a healing atmosphere inside.
