How to make homemade blinds for windows? Do-it-yourself blinds: simple instructions for creating vertical, horizontal and roll options (125 photos) How to make wooden blinds with your own hands

Window blinds are very popular. They have a number of advantages, thanks to which they have gained fame among buyers: lightweight and quick installation; acceptable price; ease of operation; long term services.

Curtains of this kind can often be found both in the office and in an ordinary apartment. If you have a need to choose curtains under certain interior, then in addition to buying new “window clothes”, there is another option: make it yourself. This will allow you to realize your creative potential, as well as purchase a thing that meets all your preferences.

Kinds

There are many types of sunscreen designs, but the easiest to use self assembly are only three:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • rolled.

Do it yourself

Horizontal blinds

Horizontal window blinds are the easiest to make yourself. They can be made from wallpaper. The first thing to do is to measure the window opening and decide whether the curtains will cover the entire opening or only half. It all depends on your preferences.

Then you need to cut off an even and desired length wallpaper piece. Keep in mind that you have to fold an accordion out of them, so add another thirty centimeters to the original length.

The width of the folds should not be made too narrow. Recommended scale: from three to six centimeters. Remember that the bottom fold should be the last step.

The lower edges of homemade blinds for windows are advised to be glued, after carefully straightening them. This is done so that both sides of the curtains retain a presentable look longer. Otherwise, they will always outweigh each other.

Vertical blinds

Making vertical blinds at home will be more difficult. Planks can be made of plastic, fiberglass or wood. To do this, you will need: threaded hooks, drills, cord, glue, special accessories: guides and sliders.

Please note that the width of the plates should be no more than twelve centimeters.

On the upper and lower sides of the resulting segments, we fix special panels. We attach threaded hooks to the top. Further, on top of the plates in the same place, it is necessary to drill holes, thanks to which the structure will hold.

Ready punctures are recommended to be lubricated reliable glue and pass a cord through them. This will allow the plates to lock in one position, which will be very convenient when further use curtains. Also, thanks to this action, in the future, the elements of the sun protection system will rotate.

For the installation of boards, guides made of aluminum or plastic are used, on which special sliders are mounted, and finished pieces of curtains are attached to them by means of threaded hooks.

Remember that the length of the cord should be twenty or thirty centimeters longer than the length of the entire system. This is necessary for the loop, with which it will be possible to control the structure.

Wooden blinds are especially difficult to manufacture at home. To assemble them yourself, you will need a lot of tools, as well as patience and talent. If you wish to make just such curtains, then it is better to contact the master or ask him for help in assembling.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds can be crafted with basic sewing skills. Of course, this is an easy way to make a very beautiful curtains with your own hands.

The material is advised to choose from such types of fabric that are treated with antistatic and antibacterial substances. Then it will be easier for you to take care of the curtains, and it will also protect you from dust and allergy pathogens that accumulate in the air of the room.

For the kitchen, you can use polyester or fabric with teflon enamel.

To install roller blinds, the following materials are useful:

  • two segments of the chosen matter;
  • a separate fabric (as a braid);
  • a wooden block with a cross section of two and a half by two and a half centimeters;
  • round wooden lath with a diameter of about two centimeters;
  • a special stapler for furniture;
  • screws and screwdriver;
  • sewing tools.

Step by step instructions on how to make roller blinds on one's own:

We calculate the size of the curtains. To do this, you need to add two or two and a half centimeters to the width of the window, and two or two and a half centimeters to the height from eight to fifteen centimeters for allowances.

From the finished segments (you can make them in different colors), two panels are cut off. The front side of them should be superimposed on each other, make basting along the edges and sew on a typewriter. The resulting bag must be turned out, connect the distance and walk along the seams with an iron.

The finished canvas is laid reverse side up, a beam is fixed from above (the length of which should be one centimeter less than that of the canvas), wrapped with a cloth and the roll is fastened with a stapler to the tree. A pocket is made from the lower sections of the canvas, into which a lath is inserted and sewn.

Further, from additional matter, segments are made twice as long as the height of the window opening, to which thirty centimeters are added, and eight centimeters wide. These are the future tapes for holding the system. These strips are shifted through the bar at the same distance from the edges of the curtains and attached to the tree with staples.

Conclusion

There are many materials for self-production of fabric, paper, wood, plastic blinds and so on. All of them are easily accessible and have a low price. If you have free time, perseverance and desire, you can try to make curtains with your own hands.

There are a lot of design options for curtains of this kind. They can be found by referring to the photo of the blinds below.

DIY blinds photo

When arranging the interior and creating a design, there are no boundaries for fantasy. I want your home to be cozy, comfortable and unusual! The first thing you see when you enter a room is the window! Therefore, protection from bright daylight should be not only comfortable, but also beautiful.

The aesthetic appearance of the window is the key to comfort in the room. Of course, curtains are a familiar piece of furniture for everyone! They are usually expensive, crumple, quickly gather dust.

There is a great alternative to curtains - blinds! You can buy them at any store or market, but it is better to make them yourself, there is nothing complicated in making them!

Materials for the manufacture of blinds used a lot: paper, fabric, plastic. IN wooden version these curtains look the best. But the main advantage of wooden blinds is naturalness and ease of care.

Woods that are more suitable for sun protection are cedar, beech, linden or bamboo. Mahogany or cork looks unusual.

Blinds can be both horizontal and vertical, they can be adjacent to fabric curtains and complement each other. The tree will suit any style, so these blinds are universal, but more often they are installed in private houses or cottages. Although in the apartment such an environmentally friendly element of the interior will not be superfluous.

In order to make blinds you will need:

1. Good mood

2. Wooden planks

3. Self-tapping screws and drill

4. Varnish and stain designed for wood

5. Cord, rope, thread

First you need to decide where the blinds will be attached - above the window or in the opening itself. The first option is suitable for spacious rooms, as it visually steals the space of the room.

  • We make accurate measurements of the window. If the plates are made independently, they must first be sanded, varnished and stained.
  • In the finished dried planks, we make three holes with a drill, we thread the cord into the side ones, with a margin of 40 cm
  • We put a cord into the central hole (double the length of the window)
  • We fix the cord securely on the last bar
  • We begin to mount the rest. Tie a knot every 4 cm larger size than the hole in the bar) and one by one we put wooden elements on the cord.
  • We throw the upper end of the cord through the main upper mount and pull it to the bottom, we fasten the latch or bead - this is the regulator for raising the entire blinds
  • The entire canvas is attached to the base by the side cords.
  • Blinds are ready! It remains only to enjoy and regularly brush off the dust.

Such blinds will be relevant on any window, even on a modern plastic one. They will reliably protect from the sun and let fresh air into the room without obstacles. Drilling glass is not necessary! There is a tricky way to attach them to a snow-white window neatly and without extra holes. You will need:

  • bracket
  • Double-sided tape

The bracket securely clings to the marked places on the top of the opening sash. A strong cable is stretched between them, which will not sag, and the entire structure is attached to it. The window will open quietly, and the window sill will remain free.

Wooden blinds are lightweight, they can be glued on double-sided tape. They will hold tight, just before attaching the tape, degrease the surface of the profile with acetone.

If you decide to hang blinds in the winter, then before installation you need to warm up the place under the adhesive tape with a hair dryer, it will not hold on to cold plastic. Following these simple rules, the blinds will hold tight and delight you with their presence on the window for a long time!

Create comfort and beauty in the house with my own hands All you need is a desire and a little patience!

In this article we will talk about how to make wooden blinds with your own hands. Given that the price of these fashionable accessories today is high, recommendations for their self-manufacturing will be of interest to many. But, before proceeding with the manufacture, we will consider what the blinds are, assembled from wood, what varieties of them are on the market and what are the features of the use of these devices.

The main types of wooden blinds and their device

Despite the fact that fabric, plastic and metal blinds are ubiquitous, today there is everything more people who are interested in purchasing wooden curtains. And this is not surprising, since wood products look more solid, more exclusive and more expensive than plastic and fabric counterparts.

However, if you want a modern and minimalistic window treatment, you can opt for white wooden blinds.

On the market, wooden window and door blinds There are several varieties, among which we note the following:

  • modifications with vertically arranged slats, rotating around its axis by 180 degrees;
  • modifications with horizontally arranged slats, rotating around its axis by 90 degrees;
  • Roman blinds - modifications with very narrow slats that are rolled up.

Despite the structural differences, all wooden curtains consist of such elements as lamellas, a mechanism that sets the lamellas in motion, and a base - a cornice on which this mechanism is fixed. Lamellas can differ in length and width in accordance with the design and standard sizes of the curtain.

As production materials wood is used for the manufacture of lamellas hard rock, which shows increased resistance to UV rays and seasonal temperature fluctuations. In addition to ordinary wood, bamboo planks are often used as production materials.

For the manufacture of Roman blinds, mainly longitudinally split bamboo is used. Such material, despite the small thickness of the lamellae, is resilient and durable.

The price of curtains made using bamboo is higher than the cost of analogues made from ordinary wood. However, such a difference in price is fully justified by the performance characteristics.

The mechanism that sets the lamellas in motion is selected depending on the design of the curtains. For example, modifications with vertically fixed slats are set in motion by a combination of a cane and a cord.

In order to set the horizontal slats in motion, a cane with a cord is used, just a cord or a cardan (relevant for large-sized curtains). Roman blinds can only be operated using a cord.

Some modern modifications of wooden blinds are equipped with an electric drive, which completely replaces the cane cords and muscular strength.

Blinds installation

The installation instruction for wooden curtains depends on two points, primarily on design features accessory and the location of the installation.

Consider what is the installation instruction for today's popular bamboo Roman blinds:

  • We turn the curtain into a roll. To make it more convenient to work, we attach the cord to the roll with a piece of adhesive tape.
  • We attach a cornice with a curtain to the wall above the window or doorway. We mark the points where the metal brackets that are included with the accessory will be attached.
  • According to the marks made, we drill holes for the dowels. We immediately check the level so that the marks are correctly set relative to the horizon.
  • Attach metal brackets.
  • There are soldered bolts on the brackets, on which nuts are screwed. Temporarily remove these nuts.
  • We bait the cornice with special slots on the bolts soldered on metal mounts. Now you can adjust the position of the cornice by moving it to the left or right.
  • After the position of the cornice has been adjusted, we tighten the nuts that fix the blinds on the metal fasteners.

The instruction for installing Roman blinds in a window opening is different in that the metal brackets are not installed on the wall, but in the upper part of the opening.

In order to carry out installation in a window opening, you need to make sure that the curtain fabric in width and length will repeat the shape and size of the window. In addition, you need to make sure that the opening is strong enough.

Important: If the opening is crumbling, the installation of Roman blinds is not recommended, since frequent closing / opening with a cord and due to the weight of the roll, the structure may simply fall.

The installation instructions for modifications with wide slats involve the installation of a bracket on which the slats and the mechanism for their movement are fixed. Installation must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, otherwise the wooden blinds will need to be re-installed or repaired.

Blind assembly for closet door

Consider the features of the assembly of barrier gratings with wooden lamellas. Such structures can be used as wooden fence blinds or for decorating door or window openings. From such structures, if desired, you can build a screen in the dressing room or in the bathroom.

The manufacturing instructions are as follows:

  • Of the side, top and bottom elements from which the frame will be assembled. The dimensions of the frame are selected individually based on the size of the opening that will need to be closed.
  • At the ends of the upper and lower parts of the frame, we drill holes for dowels.
  • We drill similar holes at the ends of the side elements of the frame, as shown in the photo.

Important: The diameter of the holes must completely match the diameter of the dowels so that these chopiks go there with difficulty.

  • We cut lamellas from a flat bar, the length of which should be 1 cm longer than the length of the upper and lower elements in the frame. The number of slats is calculated so that there is a gap of at least 2 cm between adjacent slats. Also, when calculating, it is necessary to take into account the angle of inclination of the slats.
  • On the side elements, we mark the location of pre-made lamellas in accordance with the required angle of inclination.

To mark the angle of inclination of the slats on the side parts of the frame, a simple tool will help, which is shown in the photo and which you can make yourself if you wish.

  • On a milling machine, we drill holes in the form of planks according to pre-made marks.
    If milling machine no, for the manufacture of oval holes we use a conventional electric drill, in which we attach a drill of a suitable diameter. With this drill, we immediately make several holes in a row to a depth of 7 mm. Irregularities and excess wood are straightened with a chisel.

  • Pour a small amount of wood glue into the prepared holes on one side of the frame.
  • IN round holes insert the dowels, and place the lamellas in the oval holes.
  • On the other sidewall, we also fill the holes with glue and insert the dowels.
  • We assemble the structure together so that we get a solid wooden frame, in the center of which there are inclined planks.

Operational care

Wooden facades of blinds become covered with dust during operation. These stains can be removed with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Excessive moistening of the surface of the lamellas is not recommended, as this can cause the wood to darken and cracks. In order to reduce the frequency of maintenance of wooden blinds, we recommend applying it with an antistatic effect.

Wax-based polishes do not moisturize the wood, but rather protect it from the negative effects of environmental factors. Moreover, the anti-static effect will prevent dust from settling on the surface of the curtains, which will make them less demanding to care for.

Conclusion

Now we know what 50 mm wooden window blinds are, how to install them and how to care for them. In addition, we found out how you can make wooden shutter doors yourself.

Louvred structures on the windows allow not only to protect the room from sunlight, but also significantly embellish the interior of the room. There are many types of blinds. Some types are easy to make with your own hands. We are talking about rolled and pleated systems. However, you can do it yourself not only the listed design options. Horizontal blinds are also easy to make at home. We will tell you how to make wooden blinds with your own hands.

To begin with, let's figure out what are the pros and cons of louver systems with wooden slats.

Among the undeniable advantages are the following:

  1. Outwardly, such structures look beautiful and respectable, which cannot be said about systems with aluminum or plastic lamellas.
  2. If we associate plastic or aluminum blinds to some extent with office interiors and furnishings in public places, then wooden planks create a cozy and warm homely atmosphere.
  3. Wood is environmentally friendly and harmless. This natural material does not emit toxic components, so it can be used even in children's rooms.
  4. Wooden lamellas are made 2-3 mm thick, so they are very durable and will last much longer than planks made of other materials.
  5. Blinds with wide wooden slats reliably protect the room from sunlight and do not shine through like plastic or aluminum slats.
  6. Wooden blinds are well combined with furniture made of the same material, textiles on windows and other items in the room. They emphasize the style of the interior.
  7. The material of the lamellas does not attract dust, does not accumulate pollution and static electricity. Wood does not absorb odors and is unpretentious in care. To clean the surface from dust, you only need a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner.
  8. Planks made of this material are highly durable. They cannot be bent like an aluminum or plastic lamella.

Despite the numerous advantages, wooden blinds have a small list of disadvantages. The main disadvantage is associated with the high cost of the material, so structures made of natural wood are much more expensive than blinds made of fabric, plastic or aluminum. But this cost is offset by the beauty and impressive service life.

Another significant disadvantage of louvre structures made of wood is associated with the low resistance of the material to moisture and temperature extremes. Therefore, wooden blinds are not recommended for use in a damp or unheated room. They are only suitable for installation in a living room with normal temperature and humidity.

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds manufacturing technology

Before starting work, you need to make drawings of wooden blinds with your own hands. To do this, you need to measure the dimensions of the window opening (width and height of the window). If horizontal blinds will be installed on the window frame, then the dimensions of each double-glazed window will be needed. At the same time, it is taken into account that the louvered canvas should extend beyond the glass unit by 1-2 cm on each side.

Tools and materials for work

To make blinds with your own hands from wood, prepare everything you need for work:

  • wooden slats 3-5 cm wide and 2-3 mm thick (the length depends on the dimensions of the window);

Advice! The rail can be made independently by spreading the board on the machine, or bought at the construction market.

  • kapron cord;
  • two beams with a section of 2x4 cm (its length is equal to the width of the window opening, one beam will be needed to make the cornice, and the second for the bottom bar);
  • ribbon 2-3 cm wide;
  • PVA glue;
  • sandpaper or Sander(you will need circles or tapes number 60, 320 and 800);
  • rings or hooks that are equipped with a self-tapping screw (buy 3 pieces);
  • three clamps;
  • stain;
  • two brackets for fixing the cornice (the type of fastening depends on the place where the blinds are installed: on the window or above the opening on the wall);
  • transparent primer for woodworking;
  • sprayer, roller or brush for applying primer, varnish and stain.

When choosing a type of wood for the manufacture of lamellas, it is recommended to give preference to linden, because it is distinguished by its lightness and beauty of texture. Prepared lamellas need to be prepared for work. To do this, holes are drilled in the upper and lower bar, as well as the lamellae.

A longitudinal axis is drawn on the lower weighting bar. Then, the strips retreat from both ends by 100-150 mm and drill holes on the central axis. The diameter of the hole should be such that the prepared cord or tape can be easily passed through it. WITH front side the cornice element of the hole needs to be countersinked, that is, slightly expanded by 5 mm in depth. Subsequently, in this recess, you can drown a knot tied on a cord.

On top bar also drill holes with the same indentation from the edges. Only its direction is different - from the front face towards the back surface. The cord should also pass easily through this hole.

Marking and preparation of lamellas

On each lamella, we also mark points along the central axis at a distance of 10-15 cm from both edges. From these points on both sides we draw lines perpendicular to the longitudinal side. We put aside 10-30 mm on them in each direction. The exact distance depends on the width of the plank. At the end of each such segment, we drill a hole with a diameter slightly larger than the cross section of the cord used.

After that, using a needle file, a gap is sawn between the holes. The cord should move freely along the entire slot. This slot, as well as the entire surface of the lamellas, must be protected from moisture absorption by means of varnish, wax or paraffin.

Construction assembly

Work on the assembly of the entire louvered structure is carried out in the following order:

  1. The assembly starts from the bottom bar. To do this, two pieces are cut from the cord, which is equal to the height of the window plus 50 cm. At the end of each segment, we tie a knot. Then we pass the free ends of the cords into the holes of the lower bar. The cord knots should fall into the countersunk holes.
  2. On these two cords, knots will subsequently be knitted. The pitch of the knots should be equal to the width of the lamellas minus 10 mm. After each knot, a lamella will be strung. To accurately maintain the distance on the cord, serifs are made with a pencil through the desired distance.

On a note! Instead of tying knots, the braid can be attached directly to the end of the planks with a stapler.

  1. Next, you need to cut off two pieces of tape with a width of 20-50 mm. The length of the cut should be equal to the height of the window, multiplied by 2, plus a margin of 200-250 mm. Each such piece is attached at one end to the cornice with a stapler opposite the slot with a cord. After that, the braid is sequentially fixed on each lamella up to the bottom bar.
  2. After fixing on the cord on the back side of the louvered structure, a decorative cord is sewn above the slats. The second end of this cord is displayed on the front side. By pulling this cord, you can turn the slats into the desired position.

Installing the entire louvre structure on a window or frame is easier and faster. To do this, brackets are attached to the cornice element with self-tapping screws. Then the whole structure is applied to the wall or window frame. Using a level, check the horizontal position of its installation and make marks at the attachment points of the brackets. Holes are drilled in this place. The brackets are fixed in place with self-tapping screws and dowels.

Blinds mechanism

To do rotary mechanism, you need to install a cornice with a canvas of lamellas on window opening. In this case, the lamellas should be located with their flat side parallel to the window sill. Next, we throw a decorative cord through the center of the canvas. Thus, one end of the cord is on the front side, and the other end is on the back side.

We fix the braid on the lamellas with the help of small carnations, glue or a stapler. We install clamps on the lower part of the cord. Now our rotary mechanism is ready. Thanks to him, the louvered canvas can not only be raised or lowered, but also the angle of inclination of the slats relative to the plane of the window sill can be changed.

All the necessary components for the assembly of blinds can be purchased at hardware store. Factory lamellas are usually impregnated with special compounds to increase the moisture resistance of the material and protect against the accumulation of contaminants.

Buy reliable brackets to secure the entire structure, because its weight will be rather big, given what material the lamellas are made of. If you plan to install blinds on window frame, then use the installation technology without drilling. To do this, buy special brackets that are hung on the sash from above. However, this method of fixation is not suitable for blind window openings.

How to care for wooden blinds

To remove dust accumulated on wooden lamellas, only dry cleaning methods are used. As a rule, dust can be brushed off with an ordinary dry cloth or swept away with a special brush with bristles that accumulate static electricity. These villi attract dust to themselves, do not allow it to fly and settle on other surfaces.

You can also use a vacuum cleaner with a soft nozzle for furniture to clean the surface of dust. The unit is turned on at minimum power. For cleaning, the canvas is brought to the closed position and passed over its surface with a vacuum cleaner nozzle. If necessary, stubborn dirt can be wiped with a damp cloth. Immediately after their removal, the lamellas are wiped dry with a dry cloth. To extend the life of wooden planks, they are periodically treated with special wax or oil.

Hide

Blinds is simple fixture which reliably protects the room from the penetration of bright rays of light. If you decide to decorate the interior of windows with similar product, That best material to make blinds will be wood.

And it is not necessary to buy ready-made wooden blinds, because you can make them yourself.

How to make wooden blinds - you will learn from our article.

Stage I - Production of wooden blinds: preparatory work

Wooden blinds - great protection from the sun

For self-manufacturing of wooden blinds, any type of wood is suitable. But it is better if it is bamboo or linden.

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds are easy to make. For this:

Measure the proportions of the window on which you are going to hang future blinds. The number of plates required for a wooden structure depends on the height of the window opening.

Important! Make the calculation, taking into account that the width of the plate should be approximately 12 cm. The width of the overlap of one plate on the adjacent one should be at least 1 cm.

1) Determine the height of the window and divide it by 11 cm. It turned out required amount lamellas (plates) for wooden blinds.

Blinds installation scheme

2) Proceed to determine the length of the slats. It depends on how the blinds are suspended. If they are placed directly in the window opening, then the length of the lamellas should be 4-5 cm less than the width of the window.

In addition, please note that some of the parts that are necessary for the assembly of wooden blinds, you will have to order already in ready-made. Since the manufacture of wooden blinds at home from "A" to "Z" is simply impossible. So the necessary components for the manufacture and installation of wooden blinds should be purchased first of all, having measured the parameters of the window in advance.

In addition to the plates (lamellas), for the installation of wooden blinds with your own hands, you will need tools such as:

  • Drill,
  • Scissors,
  • hooks,
  • aluminum tape,
  • clamps,

Stage II − Do-it-yourself wooden blinds: installing nozzles on the ends of the slats

To attach attachments (in the form of small boards) to the ends of the plates, do the following:

1) Drill a hole exactly in the middle in each top attachment and insert a hook into it. With the help of the last wooden blinds will be attached to the upper base. 2) Drill a hole at the top and bottom of these plates with a diameter of 2mm. Important! This hole should be exactly in the center at a distance of 12 mm from the nozzle. 3) Pass aluminum tape through the holes, which will open and close your blinds. 4) Place the cord in each hole on the glue and secure it with wood chips.

Everything, the work on the independent production of wooden blinds can be considered completed. Now let's move on to their direct installation.

Stage III - How to hang wooden blinds: installation of the finished product

1) Hook the prepared slats to the rail using hooks. This is necessary in order to move the bars to the side. 2) Screw the two large hooks to the ceiling and pass the cord through them, which previously connected the planks. Important! Pull this cord down in a loop, making sure to twist the ends. The loop is necessary so that the position of the plates can be changed.

Note that there are two ways to install wooden blinds: above the window or in the window opening itself. The method of installing the blinds must be chosen in advance, before making wooden blinds, because the size of the blinds will depend on the chosen place.

The first method is more time consuming. Since it will be necessary to drill holes, as well as a rather complicated installation of fasteners due to the heterogeneity of the walls. In addition, the disadvantage of this method of installing blinds is a noticeable reduction in the volume of the room.

The second method will significantly save you space. However, drilling is necessary in both options, but installing wooden frame much easier.

Making wooden blinds with your own hands is a chore. If you make the slightest mistake, you can spoil the whole creation. Our advice is to entrust the whole process to professionals. But if you are determined to do everything yourself, good luck in this rather difficult task!
