How to make a carpentry workbench - diagrams and instructions. Metal workbenches - how to make them yourself DIY workbench drawings drawings

This woodworking bench has a sturdy frame, a durable work surface and plenty of storage compartments. convenient storage tools and devices. You will make the main structure with your own hands in two days, and you will add various useful additions gradually.

Tools for work

To process solid wood and sheet materials you will need the following tools:

  1. Hacksaw.
  2. Electric planer.
  3. Circular saw.
  4. Grinder machine.
  5. Drill and drill bits.
  6. Clamps.
  7. Screwdriver.
  8. Pencil.
  9. Square.
  10. Roulette.
  11. Brush.

Carpentry workbench frame

Take even pine boards without large knots with a cross-section of 50x150 mm. Dry the raw lumber: the lower the moisture content of the boards, the less likely the structure will warp. Considered carpentry workbench designed for comfortable work masters with a height of 170–180 cm. To change the height of the structure, make the legs higher or lower.

All elements of the base of the carpentry workbench are paired, so mark two parts of the same length on a 150 mm wide board at once.

Saw all the wooden pieces to length, with the exception of the spacers: it’s easier to cut the short ones already planed, and the long ones should be sawed off later “in place.”

Measure the width of the board, subtract the thickness of your disk circular saw and divide the result in half. Set the calculated size on the measuring scale and make sure it is perpendicular saw blade. Unfold the boards exactly in the middle.

Plan and process parts sandpaper medium grit.

File the bottom spacers and sand the ends. After cleaning the surfaces from dust, apply glue to the small leg and to the end of the leg.

Squeeze the parts together with a clamp, wipe off the squeezed out glue and drill holes with a countersink drill.

Fasten the workpieces with 6.0x70 screws. Prepare the remaining legs of the woodworking bench frame.

Bevel the bottom ends to reduce the likelihood of the wood splitting when the workbench moves.

Prepare the joints connecting the legs with the longitudinal legs for gluing. Fasten the parts with screws, setting a right angle.

Screw all four legs into place.

Place the frame halves and longitudinal drawers on the floor, measure the length of the upper spacers.

File the parts and secure them with glue and screws.

Collect at flat surface top frame of a carpentry workbench. Fasten the bars with wood glue and 6.0x80 mm screws, drilling guide holes for them.

Collect bottom trim workbench, I use clamps and auxiliary boards for convenience.

Replace the top frame and level the entire structure. Connect the frame parts with screws.

Cut from sheet material 16 mm thick bottom shelf and secure it to the bars

Workbench table top for carpentry work

Use sheets of MDF, chipboard or plywood 16–20 mm thick for the workbench cover. Glue the slabs in two layers and get a tabletop 32–40 mm thick.

Drawing and arrangement of the workbench cover: 1 – edge strips (birch, maple); 2 – working surface (hard fiberboard); 3 – load-bearing board (chipboard, plywood or MDF).

For the countertop you can take chipboard sheets left over from unnecessary furniture. For example, the walls of a wardrobe will do. Take them as a base and add small pieces so that the carpentry workbench lid measures 670x1940 mm.

Place narrow slabs closer to back wall and to the center of the workbench. Place large sheets in top layer countertops. Glue the cut pieces together.

Fasten the sheets with self-tapping screws, deepening them into the countersunk holes. Trim the edges with a hand-held circular saw 20mm from the edge.

Align the tabletop with the frame and secure with screws.

Sharpen slats for edge trims. Saw off the 45° bevels and cut the planks to length. Place a piece of fiberboard on the lid of the workbench, add a flat panel on top and secure it all with clamps.

This makes it easier to attach the pads. Align the ends with the edges of the tabletop and press the rail against the panel - the top plane will be flush with the workbench lid. Holding the bar with one hand, drill pilot holes and secure the parts with screws.

Move the device to the other side and install the remaining pads. Sand the slats with a sander.

Drill a hole in the corner of the slab so that the fiberboard can be easily pushed out of its recess when replacing it.

Clean the surfaces from dust and cover the wooden parts of the frame with stain. Place the fiberboard in the recess of the lid. If you are using pieces of material, secure them with double-sided tape. Place a carpenter's vice on your workbench.

Boxes for storing tools in a carpentry table

When filling the space under the carpenter's workbench lid, use modular principle. It’s easier to make individual blocks and more convenient to change them later when you need space for a new tool. There will be a certain waste of material, but the weight of the workbench will increase and its stability will be enough to work with power tools.

Scheme of organization of storage places: 1 – box full extension; 2 – spacious plywood box; 3 – chipboard container; 4 – wide box; 5 – compartment for portable tool box; 6 – space for cases and workpieces.

Use boxes from old furniture

Select suitable sized junk boxes desk or chest of drawers.

Label the wooden elements and carefully separate them. Clean the glue from the spikes and eyes.

Trim the planks to width, removing worn corners and cracked grooves. If the original bottom of the box is flimsy, prepare thicker plywood or fiberboard. Make new grooves on a circular saw.

Assemble the box “dry”, adjust the parts if necessary. Clean the surfaces and glue the structure. Use mounting angles to accurately assemble right angles.

Once the glue has dried, sand the corners and sides of the box, securing it in place for ease of work.

Prepare guide strips and calculate the dimensions of the module.

Block calculation for three drawers

File the bottom, top and side panels. Screw the guide rails with screws.

Assemble the panels into a module and test the movement of the drawers. Place the block inside the workbench with supports underneath it.

Drill pilot holes, countersink and tighten the screws. Attach the chipboard to the top beams and to the legs of the workbench.

Install front covers on the drawers. Having marked the location of the housing, secure it with one screw. Insert the drawer into place and adjust the position of the panel. Carefully remove the drawer and tighten the remaining screws.

Secure the remaining linings - the module with wide drawers is ready.

Carpentry table compartment for portable box

The middle module is made to the full height of the bench to enhance the rigidity of the carpentry workbench. For the body take Chipboard thickness 16 mm and cut out two sides, a bottom and a lid.

Middle module housing: 1 – frame diagram; 2 – side wall; 3 – lower and upper panels.

Attach the guide strips to the sides, assemble the frame with screws and install it close to the right block.

Prepare the parts for the drawer.

Drawings of box elements: 1 – long wall; 2 – short wall; 3 – bottom; 4 – front pad; 5 – rail.

Use a circular saw to select grooves in the walls, which can be done with a regular disk. Set the cutting depth to 6 mm and the width to 8 mm. Run all four parts through. Slide longitudinal stop saw blade to 2 mm and make a test cut. Check the groove and adjust the stop if necessary. Run the rest of the workpieces.

Assemble the module and install the rails underneath that protect chipboard edges from chipping and providing a smoother ride.

Secure the front panel with screws and place the drawer in place.

How to make modules with convenient drawers

The design of the housings of these modules is identical to the previous designs. The retractable container placed on roller guides is made taking into account the installation gap, so its width will be smaller internal size housings by 26 mm (for common guides with a thickness of 12 mm).

Module structure and box parts: 1 – assembly diagram; 2 – back and front walls; 3 – front panel; 4 – bottom; 5 – side walls.

Before assembling the housing, attach the limiting bars to the sides. wooden slats and metal guides.

Installation diagram of guides on the walls of the housing.

Secure the finished module under the workbench lid.

To install the drawer rails, unclip the latches and pull out the small rails.

Fasten the parts to the walls. Determine the required distance from the edge to the guide yourself based on the specific design and the 10 mm gap between the wall of the box and the top panel of the frame.

Pull out the middle rails all the way.

Insert both rails at the same time, holding the middle rails with your fingers. If the drawer is too tight, take it out and try again.

Replace the front trim.

How to make a carpentry workbench drawer from plywood

Saw the box body blanks from 10mm plywood, and for the bottom take a 5mm thick sheet.

Scheme of cutting parts for two plywood boxes: 1 – front panel; 2 – rear liner; 3 – side wall; 4 – front liner.

Sand the workpieces with a grinder.

Make grooves for the plywood bottom in the side walls, back and front liner. Remove burrs with sandpaper.

Glue and screw together the parts of the front and back walls.

Apply glue to the joints and into the groove.

Assemble the structure using angles and clamps.

Fasten the parts with screws, drilling guide holes.

Assemble the second plywood box with your own hands.

Install a panel on the back wall of the carpentry workbench designed to increase the rigidity of the structure and to accommodate hand tools.

Cover the drawers and cut ends of the particle boards with finishing compound.

Connect power to your homemade workbench and start filling the containers with tools.

Any welder or turner needs workplace, where you can work with metal: processing, sharpening, cutting, grinding. For these purposes, you need a mechanic's workbench. The main difference between a metalworking workbench and a carpentry workbench is metal surface, while the surface of carpentry is made mainly of wood.

Main nuances

Most home craftsmen prefer not to buy a workbench, but to make it themselves. Firstly, a DIY metal workbench will cost much less than a purchased one. Secondly, when making a structure, you have the opportunity to realize your ideas, and finally, if everything is done correctly, then the quality homemade workbench will be several times better than the purchased one. With some simple metal manipulation, a few tools, and some welding and cutting skills, you can get a pretty decent table.

When manufacturing, you should divide the workbench into components (for more convenient assembly) and take into account important nuances:

DIY workbench

First you need to decide where the workbench will be located and what you can attach it to. If the structure is angular, then best option in this case, start construction from the walls themselves, and they must be strong.

This option is good because amendments to the design can be made along the way, but if the master is inexperienced, then it is better to use another option. The optimal solution is to manufacture a workbench according to ready-made drawings. Of course, the cost of this option is several times higher, but the dimensions and material have already been selected and indicated in the drawing, which greatly facilitates the work.

The base is made of 35-gauge angle with a wall thickness of 5 mm. This material produces a stable structure. As work surface A 3 mm thick sheet is used; under the sheet there are 60 mm thick boards, which ensures even greater rigidity of the structure. The table frame can be made from a thinner corner, since the load on it is minimal, and boards from 20 mm can be used. As for the remaining shelves, plywood is used as a pallet, the thickness of which ranges from 10 to 20 mm. Drawers are made of 2 mm steel. To make a bench, the dimensions are shown below.

The height and width of the vice table can be changed and adjusted to suit your needs. You will also need the following materials:

  • Corner 35 mm, wall thickness not less than 5 mm.
  • Angle 20 mm for the frame.
  • For support legs it is necessary to make plates from pieces of steel sheet to attach the workbench to the floor.
  • Plywood.
  • Timber 60 by 40.

After the frame is ready, it is necessary to strip the metal. Then, in order to avoid metal corrosion, the structure must be coated with a metal primer in 2 layers and then begin painting. Wooden elements It is also necessary to prime and, if possible, varnish. Wood treated in this way will last a long time and will not absorb moisture and rot.

Once the boards are dry, they can be laid on the finished structure. It is advisable to drill holes at the beginning and end of each board and attach them to the base using metal screws. The sheet, which will serve as a kind of shield against hammer blows, must be laid on the boards and secured with bolts or self-tapping screws to the boards. You need to lay sheets of plywood on all shelves and secure them in any way. The next step is to make the boxes themselves from sheet metal.

After the sheet of metal has been made according to the drawing, its side parts should be bent and scalded. The structure should look like this:

Weld a handle for pulling the drawer to the front part. Before installation, you need to prime and paint it in the same way as the frame itself. Place the finished boxes into the workbench.

It should be noted that this workbench does not have any space for feet. This, of course, is not entirely convenient, but on the other hand, you can put much more tools and workpieces. You can immediately attach a vice to such a workbench, drilling machine and other equipment.

locksmith table

For those who have little space for a workbench, An option that combines a small metalworking table with elements of a workbench is suitable. On such a table you can place the most necessary plumbing equipment. The design looks like this:

You can make such a table for the workshop from a corner 60 x 60 or 70 x 70. The corners need to be welded together to form a kind of rectangle. You can put boards or plywood on the bottom of the table, but before that you need to drill holes in the lower parts of the corner to attach the table to the floor.

It is advisable to prime and paint the structure. If the table will be in a dry, heated room, then to save money you don’t have to treat the surface. The tabletop requires a sheet 6-7 mm thick, under which boards should be laid to dampen vibration from hammer blows and work with power tools. The sheet is secured with bolts or metal screws.

All sizes are purely individual and are selected by the master independently.

This design is good because it takes up little space, and even a novice mechanic can make it.

This option is made from square pipe and a corner. The frame is made of a square pipe, and the corner will give the structure the necessary rigidity and is used for edging.

Tools for making a workbench:

  • Welding machine.
  • Grinder with sharpening split discs.
  • Squares.
  • Roulette.
  • Plywood, angle and square pipes.
  • Screws and drawer guides.
  • Metal screws and anchors.
  • Paint for wood and metal.
  • Steel sheet.

The structure must be welded in such a way that the second part of the corners, in which the boards under the tabletop will be located, can be welded onto its upper surface.

Now you can start making a frame from the corners for the table top. The corners must be cut into two parts, 2000 mm long. You will also need two 750 mm corners. All this must be welded so that the boards under the table top fit into the grooves of the corner.

In order to weld the tool sheathing, you will need two 2000 mm corners and 4 950 mm corners. To strengthen the frame, corners 950 mm long should be fixed in the middle and two on the sides. The panel can be welded to the countertop as follows:

The next step will be to strengthen the structure using corners. This must be done as shown in the figure:

It's time to make plywood boxes. The process itself is simple: the plywood should be cut into blanks with a jigsaw, and then twisted with self-tapping screws. Drawers can be placed on both sides of the table, and their number can be from two to three. It is necessary to attach the guides to the drawers, but before that, two metal strips should be attached to each side, to which the guides will be attached.

Once all the components are ready, you can proceed to laying the boards on the workbench. The board should be no thinner than 50 mm and 2190 mm long. If you can’t find long boards on the farm, you can get by with short ones 74 cm long. Before laying, the boards should be treated with “anti-bark beetle” to extend their service life. The metal structure must be primed and painted. You need to secure a steel sheet on top of the boards.

At the very end, boxes are installed, and the tool stand is lined with plywood.

The last step is to ground the workbench to avoid damage electric shock. You can immediately attach a vice to the tabletop, grinder And various devices. If desired, it is possible to run cables for sockets and additional lighting, which will make work even more comfortable.

As practice has shown, making a bench is a rather painstaking task that entails financial costs, but the master will receive only positive emotions from working on such a table. Your work will become much easier thanks to the fact that all the tools will be at hand.

In many cases, the garage becomes the only place where you can repair or overhaul any part of the car, make the necessary equipment, or simply relax your soul by working with your hands at a mechanic or carpentry workbench. In some cases, you can even organize a small metalwork or carpentry workshop in the garage, if you have the desire and time. In any case, a workbench is needed in the garage like air. Serious craftsmen always have two of them - for working with metal and a wooden workbench, not counting the work table and the machine.

How to organize a workbench in the garage

There are few options for getting a workbench in the garage; most often, the desired equipment can be purchased in one of the following ways:

  • Buy Chinese or domestic products;
  • Draw up drawings taking into account the required dimensions and order the manufacture of a workbench from familiar carpenters or mechanics;
  • Make a workbench for the garage with your own hands.

It cannot be said that with the current abundance different instruments and equipment for the garage today it is impossible to buy a high-quality workbench. Moreover, even among domestic manufacturers there are many decent-looking models that would be quite suitable for working in a garage, but there is one condition.

Important! Standard version The size and design of the workbench does not always suit your individual height and arm span. In addition, not in all cases it is possible to squeeze a workbench designed for the scale of a locksmith workshop into the space of your garage.

It makes sense to order the production of a workbench according to your drawings if it is not physically possible to make it for the garage with your own hands, for example, the room is not ready, or you do not have the necessary skills to work with welding or carpentry tools.

It is very important from the very beginning to correctly formulate the design requirements and decide where and how the workbench should be located in the garage:

  • Table height and dimensions top cover or countertops should be as comfortable as possible to suit your individual needs. At the same time, there should be free space around the tool in the garage of at least an arm’s length from the working position at the table;
  • Despite the fact that 99% of the work is done in a standing position, there should be a chair and a wooden grate near the workbench if the garage floor is concrete. However, the entire set of accessories must not interfere with or in any way affect the vehicle or other vehicle, stored indoors.

Advice! If you plan to drill, cut or plan wood a lot, get a vacuum cleaner, a good exhaust ventilation and a car cover.

How to make a workbench in the garage

Your first experience in building garage equipment may be a simple wooden workbench or wooden workbench. The design of a table made of timber is more affordable to manufacture; working with a saw, jigsaw and drill is much simpler than cutting and welding a steel angle, from which professional-quality plumbing tools are usually made.

Building a wooden workbench for assembly work

To build a workbench, we will need:

  1. Wooden beam, preferably oak or pine, approximately 12-15 m, the cross-section of the material is selected individually, based on the expected load on the workbench;
  2. Planed edged board, 20-30 mm thick, smooth, without knots or surface defects;
  3. Sheet plywood, 6-8 mm thick, three sheets 200x60 cm;
  4. A set of wood screws and steel angles, shelf size 50 mm and length from 50 to 70 mm, at least 40 pieces.

Advice! All cutting work must be performed using a hand or stationary circular saw; trim the edges of timber or boards only with a jigsaw or similar power tool.

In this case, even in the absence of carpentry skills, the cut turns out smooth, and accordingly, the entire structure of the workbench will look like a factory one.

At the first stage, we make the frame of the workbench, while taking into account the dimensions of the space in the garage. To do this, you will need to cut four vertical racks, four horizontal beams and five horizontal short cross braces. If the dimensions of a wooden workbench for a garage do not exceed two meters, you can use a beam with a section of 70x70 mm.

We cut off four vertical posts - two 90 cm high, two 150 cm high. The latter are made 60 cm higher; after the workbench is assembled, a plywood screen will be installed on them for the tools stored in the garage.

Horizontal beams too different sizes. To bandage the support posts of the frame in the lower part of the workbench, we cut two sections of timber 150 cm long; to attach the table top, 200 cm long sections are needed. The last of the remaining material is cut into transverse struts 60 cm long.

We assemble the entire structure using steel angles and self-tapping screws, as shown in the diagram.

We assemble the tabletop by gluing together sheets of plywood and boards. After leveling and adjusting the dimensions, the boards and plywood, coated with PVA-M or wood glue, are assembled in clamps until they dry completely and gain strength. We sew the tabletop along the contour with self-tapping screws.

We lay the tabletop on the finished frame and fasten it with self-tapping screws, after which the surface is carefully sanded with an emery attachment for an electric drill. Lastly, we install the screen and cover the entire structure with varnish so that in damp weather in the garage the wood of the workbench does not “sink.”

In appearance, the workbench for the garage turned out to be quite delicate, but in reality its strength is enough to withstand a load of more than one hundred kilograms. To increase rigidity, the rear pillars can be anchored to the garage walls.

Option for a metal workbench made from a steel angle

To make the structure we use a steel angle with a shelf width of 50 mm. Below is the sequence of operations for making a workbench in the garage with your own hands. Most of work is carried out in the garage with an angle grinder and welding machine, therefore, before starting work, you should practice and select the best welding mode for metal 3 mm thick.

First, we cut a blank for making a frame for the top plate of the workbench. The working surface for metalwork-type workbenches is best made in the form of a solid or welded structure made of steel sheet, plates or plates. The recommended sheet thickness for a garage workbench is at least five millimeters.

After adjusting the dimensions of the slab, we place the corner blanks on its surface, from which we will weld the base of the tabletop. We carefully adjust the cut pieces to corner connections, install it on a flat surface, secure it with a clamp, weld it and thoroughly clean the seams.

This is the hardest part welding work. If you have it in your garage semi-automatic welding, the blanks for the base frame are first welded together using conventional welding, and then point-fixed to the steel sheet. Performing such an operation with conventional welding is quite difficult; you can burn or overheat the sheet, resulting in a “flapping” wave instead of a flat surface.

We cut off the “legs” for the workbench from the same corner and weld them to the base. If the workbench will stand on the ground or gravel surface of the garage, you will need to add special spots to the supporting part of the legs. If the structure needs to be fixed to concrete floor garage, drill holes in the spots for anchor bolts.

Next, we cut out horizontal cross ties, which we weld at the bottom of the workbench legs. This makes the structure rigid and stable on any garage floor. If necessary, an additional diagonal brace can be welded to the rear of the frame.

To install boxes for spare parts and parts stored in the garage, we additionally weld horizontal guides under the tabletop. So that the drawers can slide out freely, we weld a pair of short longitudinal corners onto the transverse sections. The boxes can be made separately or adapted from existing ones in the garage. In this case, the location of the guide angles must be selected individually.

In addition, the corner guides will need to be carefully sanded, or plastic strips sewn on, so that the bottom of the drawers does not “plane” and is not damaged when moving. Otherwise, within a couple of weeks after installing the workbench in the garage, the required force to pull out the drawers will increase several times.

After completing the assembly work, all welds will need to be thoroughly cleaned and treated with a phosphate primer, after which the metal surface is primed and painted in the color favored by machine builders - blue or green. Which color is suitable for your garage is up to you. The working surface of the steel sheet of the tabletop is not painted; at best, it is polished or treated with an acid stain.

Conclusion

Making a workbench for your garage is a relatively simple and inexpensive process. The steel frame can withstand a load of several hundred kilograms, for example, from a car suspension or engine. Even if you purchase all the components and materials, the manufacturing cost will be an order of magnitude less than the purchased option. Moreover, in most cases, real car enthusiasts and repair and DIY experts do just that.

Any business man needs his own equipped workplace for storing tools and performing carpentry and plumbing work. In that case, just necessary element your workplace will become a workbench, and now we will tell you how to make a workbench on your own.

Indeed, to buy it, you will need to shell out a significant amount and, in addition, select right size specifically for your premises seems to be quite a difficult task. But if you do it yourself, you can choose the required size of the workbench to the nearest centimeter.

What kind of workbenches are there?

A workbench is a work table on which a craftsman performs manual work on processing wooden, metal and other parts. Self-made workbenches are installed in the garage, at the dacha and even in the apartment. The workbench is equipped with various additional devices that may be needed during work, such as stops and a vice. In addition, workbenches are equipped with containers for storing various tools and even documentation. Based on the type of work, there are carpentry, carpentry and metal workbenches.

DIY workbench video:

Carpentry workbench

A standard carpentry workbench has this design. The main parts are the bench plate and the bench. The underframe looks like a stand (usually two) that are connected to each other wooden blocks. The material of this table element is usually pine or other softwood.

The bench board or cover is made from hard rocks wood, for example oak, and has a thickness of up to 8 cm. The surface of the board is covered with drying oil. If you are going to assemble a workbench with your own hands, then you should know what additional devices need to be installed on the tabletop.

Note!

First of all, it should be a vice located in the front part and used to fix parts.

It is necessary to make a recess in the back to store tools in it. small sizes. There are holes on the edge of the bench board into which wooden blocks and metal combs are inserted. A standard workbench is mainly suitable for self made, and if you also want to use power tools, then for this you need to choose a workbench board with a large number of holes for stops.

Mechanic's workbench

Mechanic's workbench more powerful structure. It has metal carcass, on which a wooden cover up to 6 cm thick and covered with an iron sheet is placed. The lid is edged with a three-sided edge and, in most cases, a bench vice is installed on it. The tabletop on such workbenches is made powerful so that it can withstand high impact loads, including sledgehammers.

The material is chosen at will, but the most popular is MDF with galvanization, which allows you to protect the countertop from the influence of aggressive environments such as gasoline, oils or solvents. In addition, such a tabletop is easy to clean from dirt. The bench is equipped with several pull-out drawers for storing tools.

Carpenter's workbench

Another type of such structure is the carpenter's workbench. This workplace is designed for processing boards and has dimensions significantly larger than the two previous options. Its dimensions are up to 6 m long and 1 m wide. A stop for processing the board must be installed on the carpentry workbench. It has a triangle-shaped cutout for securing the board with wedges, and is used when processing its edges.

Making a construction workbench

Let's figure out how to make a carpentry workbench with your own hands. First you need to make a frame from beams, and between the legs, for strength, install a jumper and drawer ( connecting element, holding the structure together). It is advisable that they be located at a distance of about 45 cm from the floor. Installation of the workbench frame occurs in this order. First you need to prepare the grooves, then we assemble the structure and coat the connection points with glue. The final fastening is carried out using clamps.

Workbench table top

It is worth recalling that the production of any design occurs more quickly and efficiently if you have at least the simplest drawing of a carpentry workbench or part of it at hand. Below we show a drawing of the tabletop, top view.

If the tabletop is made of several boards, then it is necessary to ensure that there are no gaps between them, in order to avoid dust getting in there during subsequent work. The dimensions of the tabletop should be 3-5 cm larger than the workbench itself, for greater ease of cleaning the tool. The tabletop must be sanded and varnished. This will serve as protection against getting splinters into your hands.

Installing a vice and creating stops

After we have installed the tabletop, we need to mount a vice on them. To do this, you need to cut a recess on the working surface so that you can put vertical plate in the same plane with the tabletop. We place the vice in the place where it will stand in the future, preferably not at a corner, and make a mark for drilling. Then fasten it with nuts.

Note!

Stops can be purchased at the store, or you can make them yourself.

Then we recommend making them rectangular in shape with the ability to adjust the height. It is advisable to make holes for the stops at a length of 50% of the vice stroke. In this situation, you will be able to fix various workpieces well. Video instructions for making a workbench can be viewed in our article.

Wooden workbench

Making a metal workbench

Let's look at how you can make a mechanic's workbench with your own hands.

  1. Let's determine the height of the future table. It can be different for each person, for example, if a man is 180 cm tall, then the height of the workbench is 90 cm. But still, for the final decision you need to focus only on yourself.
  2. Do not forget that the drawings of the metalwork bench drawn by you will be useful for faster and higher-quality assembly.
  3. For a mechanic's workbench, it is best to weld the frame from a profile pipe and corners, but in as a last resort it can be made in the same way as a carpentry structure, from beams.
  4. To make the structure as strong as possible, you need to place spacers between the legs. Sometimes, instead of spacers, a shelf is installed, into which you can subsequently store tools, paint and varnish liquids, or other necessary items.
  5. For structural stability, you can attach the legs to the floor. This will prevent the workbench from wobbling while working.
  6. Build a countertop from MDF and galvanize it if possible. This will significantly increase its strength.
  7. If you want your workbench to be equipped with drawers, then place runners under the upper bars, similar to those installed for drawers in. Then you will have storage space for small parts, screws and nails.

Folding workbench

There is another type of workbenches that are used for both carpentry and plumbing work. This is a folding workbench. It is very convenient when there is no extra space in the room. After working on it, you can always fold it and put it in a corner to wait next job. In addition, when folded, it can be transported to the country house. This workbench consists of two parts: a removable workbench board and a folding table. It is usually manufactured in smaller sizes than stationary table.

A good workbench in the garage allows you to make different kinds metal and wood work in a short period of time. Stored here various instruments And small parts. In simple terms, it is a special table on which you can do turning and metalwork.

In addition to the tabletop, there may be multi-layer structures of shelves and hanging containers for storing nails, screws and nuts.

Making a universal workbench is quite simple. The main thing in this matter is to prepare a project and detailed drawings of the future product. During the creation process, it is necessary to observe the order of each action.

Self-manufacturing of such a structure will save a decent amount. Besides, individual project helps you make a design based on the parameters of your room.
