How to make a carpentry workbench - diagrams and instructions. Metal workbenches - how to make your own hands

This carpentry workbench has a solid frame, a solid work surface and plenty of storage space. convenient storage tools and fixtures. You will make the main structure with your own hands in two days, and you will gradually add various useful additions.

Tools for the job

To process solid wood and sheet materials, you will need a tool:

  1. Hacksaw.
  2. Electroplaner.
  3. The saw is circular.
  4. Grinder machine.
  5. Drill and drills.
  6. Clamps.
  7. Screwdriver.
  8. Pencil.
  9. Square.
  10. Roulette.
  11. Brush.

Carpenter's workbench frame

Take a flat pine boards without large knots with a section of 50x150 mm. Dry the raw lumber: the lower the moisture content of the boards, the less likely the structure will warp. under consideration carpenter's workbench designed for comfortable work the master is 170–180 cm tall. To change the height of the structure, make the legs higher or lower.

All elements of the base of the carpentry workbench are paired, so mark two parts of the same length on a board 150 mm wide at once.

Saw all wooden blanks along the length, with the exception of spacers: short ones are more convenient to cut already planed, and long ones should be sawn off later “in place”.

Measure the width of the board, subtract the thickness of your disc circular saw and divide the result in half. Set the calculated size on the measuring scale and make sure it is perpendicular saw blade. Spread the boards exactly in the middle.

Sharpen the details and finish them sandpaper medium grit.

File the bottom spacers and sand the ends. After cleaning the surfaces of dust, apply glue to the small prong and to the end of the leg.

Squeeze the parts with a clamp, wipe off the squeezed out glue and drill holes with a countersink drill.

Fasten the blanks with screws 6.0x70. Prepare the rest of the legs of the carpentry workbench frame.

Bevel the bottom ends to reduce the chance of wood splitting when the workbench is moved.

Prepare for gluing the joints of the legs with the longitudinal prongs. Fasten the parts with screws, setting a right angle.

Screw all four legs into place.

Place the halves of the frame and the longitudinal sides on the floor, measure the length of the upper spacers.

File the parts and fix with glue and screws.

Gather on flat surface the top frame of the carpenter's workbench. Fasten the bars with wood glue and 6.0x80 mm screws, drilling pilot holes for them.

Gather bottom harness workbench, I use clamps and auxiliary boards for convenience.

Put the top frame in place and align the entire structure. Connect the frame parts with screws.

cut out sheet material 16 mm thick lower shelf and fix it on the bars

Workbench for carpentry work

Use sheets of MDF, chipboard or plywood 16–20 mm thick for the workbench cover. Glue the plates in two layers and get a countertop with a thickness of 32–40 mm.

Drawing and arrangement of the cover of the workbench: 1 - edge strips (birch, maple); 2 - working surface (solid fiberboard); 3 - carrier plate (chipboard, plywood or MDF).

For the tabletop you can take chipboard sheets left over from unwanted furniture. For example, the walls of a wardrobe are suitable. Take them as a basis and add small pieces so that the lid of the carpentry workbench turns out to be 670x1940 mm in size.

Place narrow slabs closer to back wall and towards the center of the workbench. Place large sheets in top layer countertops. Glue the cut blanks.

Fasten the sheets with self-tapping screws, deepening them into the countersunk holes. Trim the edges with a hand-held circular saw at a distance of 20 mm from the edge.

Align the tabletop with the frame and secure with screws.

Cut the slats for the edge trims. Saw off 45° bevels and cut the planks to length. Put a piece of fiberboard on top of the workbench, add a flat panel on top and fasten it all with clamps.

This makes it easier to attach the pads. Align the ends with the edges of the worktop and press the rail against the panel - the top plane will be flush with the workbench cover. While holding the plank with one hand, drill pilot holes and secure the parts with screws.

Move the fixture to the other side and install the remaining pads. Process the planks with a grinder.

Drill a hole in the corner of the board so that the fiberboard can be easily pushed out of the recess when replacing it.

Clean the surfaces of dust and cover the wooden parts of the frame with wood stain. Lay the fiberboard in the recess of the lid. If you are using pieces of material, then fix them with double-sided tape. Install a carpenter's vise on the workbench.

Drawers for storing tools in the carpenter's table

Filling the space under the lid of the carpentry workbench, use modular principle. Individual blocks are easier to make and more convenient to later change when space is needed for a new tool. There will be a certain overspending of material, but the mass of the workbench will increase and its stability will be enough to work with power tools.

Scheme of organization of storage places: 1 - box full extension; 2 - roomy plywood box; 3 - container made of chipboard; 4 - wide box; 5 - compartment for portable tool box; 6 - a place for cases and blanks.

Use drawers from old furniture

Choose boxes that are suitable in size from unnecessary desk or chest of drawers.

Sign the wooden elements and carefully pull them apart. Clean the spikes and lugs from the glue.

Cut the planks to width, removing worn corners and cracked grooves. If the original bottom of the box is flimsy, prepare thicker plywood or fiberboard. Make new grooves on the circular saw.

Assemble the box "dry", adjust the parts if necessary. Clean the surfaces and glue the structure. Use mounting brackets to accurately assemble right angles.

When the glue dries, sand the corners and sides of the drawer, securing it for ease of use.

Prepare the guide rails and calculate the dimensions of the module.

Block calculation for three drawers

File the bottom, top and side panels. Fasten the guide rails with screws.

Assemble the panels into a module and test the movement of the boxes. Place the block inside the workbench, placing props under it.

Drill pilot holes, countersink and tighten self-tapping screws. Fasten the chipboard to the top rails and to the legs of the workbench.

Install the front pads on the drawers. Having marked the location of the case, grab it with one screw. Insert the box into place and adjust the position of the panel. Carefully remove the drawer and tighten the rest of the screws.

Fasten the remaining overlays - the module with wide drawers is ready.

Carpentry table compartment for portable drawer

The middle module is made to the full height of the workbench to increase the rigidity of the carpentry workbench. For the body, take Chipboard thickness 16 mm and cut out the two sides, bottom and lid.

Housing of the middle module: 1 - frame diagram; 2- side wall; 3 - bottom and top panels.

Attach the guide rails to the sidewalls, assemble the frame with screws and install close to the right block.

Prepare the details for the drawer.

Drawings of the elements of the box: 1 - long wall; 2 - short wall; 3 - bottom; 4 - front pad; 5 - rail.

With a circular saw, select the grooves in the walls, which can be done with a regular disk. Set the cutting depth to 6 mm and the width to 8 mm. Run all four parts. slide longitudinal stop 2 mm saw blade and make a trial cut. Check the groove and adjust the stop if necessary. Run the rest of the blanks.

Assemble the module and install rails on the bottom to protect chipboard edges from chipping and providing a more “smooth” ride.

Fasten the front panel with screws and put the drawer in place.

How to make modules with convenient drawers

The arrangement of the housings of these modules is identical to the previous designs. The drawer placed on roller guides is manufactured taking into account the mounting clearance, so its width will be less inner size housings by 26 mm (for common rails with a thickness of 12 mm).

The device of the module and the details of the box: 1 - assembly diagram; 2 - back and front walls; 3 - front panel; 4 - bottom; 5 - side walls.

Before assembling the housing, fasten the restrictive wooden slats and metal guides.

Scheme of mounting guides on the walls of the case.

Fix the finished module under the cover of the workbench.

To install the rails on the drawer, unsnap the latches and pull out the small rails.

Fasten the pieces to the walls. Determine the required distance from the edge to the guide yourself based on the specific design and a gap of 10 mm between the wall of the box and the top panel of the frame.

Pull out the middle rails as far as they will go.

Insert both rails at the same time, holding the middle rails with your fingers. If the box "went" tight, take it out and try again.

Put the front cover in place.

How to make a drawer for a carpentry workbench from plywood

Saw the blanks of the box body from 10 mm plywood, and for the bottom take a sheet 5 mm thick.

Scheme of cutting parts for two plywood boxes: 1 - front panel; 2 - back insert; 3 - side wall; 4 - front insert.

Process the blanks with a grinder.

Make grooves for the plywood bottom in the side walls, back and front liner. Remove burrs with sandpaper.

Glue and screw the parts of the front and back walls with screws.

Apply glue to the joints and into the groove.

Assemble the structure using corners and clamps.

Fasten the parts with screws, drilling pilot holes.

Assemble the second plywood box with your own hands.

Install a panel on the back wall of the carpentry workbench to increase the rigidity of the structure and to accommodate hand tools.

Finish the drawers and the cut ends of the chipboard with a finishing compound.

Power up your DIY workbench and start filling containers with tools.

Any welder or turner needs workplace where you can work with metal: processing, sharpening, cutting, grinding. For these purposes, you need a locksmith workbench. The main difference between a locksmith's workbench and a carpenter's workbench is metal surface, while the surface of the joinery is made mainly of wood.

Main nuances

Most home craftsmen prefer not to buy a workbench, but to make it with their own hands. Firstly, a do-it-yourself metal workbench will cost much less than a purchased one. Secondly, when making a structure, there is an opportunity to realize your ideas, and finally, if everything is done correctly, then the quality homemade workbench will be several times better than the purchased one. With some simple metal manipulation, a small amount of tools, and welding and cutting skills, you can get a pretty decent table.

When manufacturing, you should divide the workbench into components (for more convenient assembly) and take into account important nuances:

DIY workbench

First you need to decide where the workbench will be located and what you can fix it to. If the design is angular, then the best option in this case, start building from the walls themselves, while they must be strong.

This option is good because Design modifications can be made along the way., but if the master is inexperienced, then it is better to use another option. The optimal solution is the manufacture of a workbench according to ready-made drawings. Of course, the cost of this option is several times higher, but the dimensions and material have already been selected and indicated in the drawing, which greatly facilitates the work.

The base is made of the 35th corner with a wall thickness of 5 mm. From such material the steady design turns out. As working surface a 3 mm thick sheet is used, under the sheet there are boards 60 mm thick, which provides even greater structural rigidity. The binding of the table can be made from a thinner corner, since the load on it is minimal, and boards can be used from 20 mm. As for the remaining shelves, plywood is used as a pallet, the thickness of which ranges from 10 to 20 mm. Drawers are made of 2 mm steel. For the manufacture of a locksmith's workbench, the dimensions are shown below.

The height and width of the vise table can be changed and adjusted to suit your needs. You will also need the following materials:

  • Corner 35 mm, wall thickness not less than 5 mm.
  • Corner 20 mm for the frame.
  • For support legs it is necessary to make plates from pieces of steel sheet for fixing the workbench to the floor.
  • Plywood.
  • Beam 60 to 40.

After the frame is ready, it is necessary to clean the metal. Then, in order to avoid metal corrosion, the structure must be coated with a metal primer in 2 layers and then proceed to painting. wooden elements must also be primed and, if possible, varnished. Wood treated in this way will last a long time and will not absorb moisture and rot.

Once the boards are dry, they can be laid on the finished structure. It is advisable to drill holes at the beginning and at the end of each board and attach them to the base using metal screws. The sheet, which will serve as a kind of shield from hammer blows, must be laid on the boards and fixed with bolts or self-tapping screws to the boards. On all shelves you need to lay sheets of plywood and fix them in any way. The next step is to make the boxes themselves out of sheet metal.

After the sheet of metal has been made according to the drawing, its side parts should be bent and scalded. It should look like this:

Weld a handle to pull the drawer to the front. Before installation, you need to prime and paint in the same way as the frame itself. Insert the finished boxes into the workbench.

It should be noted that this workbench does not have room for legs. This, of course, is not very convenient, but on the other hand, you can put much more tools and workpieces. You can immediately attach a vise to such a workbench, drilling machine and other equipment.

locksmith table

Those who have little space at their disposal for a workbench, an option that combines a small metalwork table with workbench elements is suitable. On such a table you can place the most necessary plumbing equipment. The design looks like this:

You can make such a table in the workshop from a corner of 60 x 60 or 70 x 70. The corners need to be welded together to make a kind of rectangle. You can put boards or plywood on the bottom of the table, but before that, you need to drill holes in the lower parts of the corner to fasten the table to the floor.

The structure should be primed and painted. If the table will stand in a dry, heated room, then to save money, you can not process the surface. For the countertop, a sheet with a thickness of 6-7 mm is required, under which boards should be laid to dampen vibration from hammer blows and work with power tools. The sheet is fastened with bolts or screws for metal.

All sizes are purely individual and are selected by the master independently.

This design is good because it takes up little space, and even a novice locksmith can make it.

This option is made from square pipe and corner. The frame is made of a square pipe, and the corner will give the structure the necessary rigidity and is used for edging.

Tools for making a workbench:

  • Welding machine.
  • Bulgarian with sharpening cutting discs.
  • Squares.
  • Roulette.
  • Plywood, corner and square pipes.
  • Screws and drawer guides.
  • Self-tapping screws for metal and anchors.
  • Paint for wood and metal.
  • Steel sheet.

The structure must be welded in such a way that the second part of the corners can be welded onto its upper surface, in which the boards under the countertop will be located.

Now you can start making a frame from the corners for the tabletop. The corners must be cut into two parts, 2000 mm long. You will also need two corners of 750 mm. All this must be welded so that the boards under the countertop lie in the grooves of the corner.

In order to weld the crate for the tool, you will need two corners of 2000 mm and 4 corners of 950 mm each. To strengthen the frame, fix the corners 950 mm long in the middle and two on the sides. The panel can be welded to the worktop as follows:

The next step is to strengthen the structure with the help of corners. This must be done as shown in the figure:

It's time to make plywood boxes. The process itself is simple: plywood should be cut into blanks with a jigsaw, and then twisted with self-tapping screws. Drawers can be placed on both sides of the table, and their number can be from two to three. It is necessary to attach guides to the boxes, but before that, two metal strips should be attached from each side, to which the guides will be attached.

After all the components are ready, you can proceed to laying the boards on the workbench. The board must be no thinner than 50 mm and 2190 mm long. If you can’t find long boards on the farm, then you can get by with short pieces of 74 cm each. Before laying, you should treat the boards with an “anti-bark beetle” to extend their service life. The metal structure needs to be primed and painted. On top of the boards you need to fix the steel sheet.

At the very end, boxes are installed, and the tool stand is sheathed with plywood.

The last step is to ground the workbench to avoid damage. electric shock. You can immediately attach a vise to the tabletop, grinder And various devices. Optionally, it is allowed to run cables for sockets and additional lighting, which will make the work even more comfortable.

As practice has shown, the manufacture of a locksmith's workbench is a rather painstaking task that carries financial costs, but the master will receive only positive emotions from working on such a table. Work will become much easier due to the fact that all the tools will be at hand.

In many cases, the garage becomes the only place where you can repair or overhaul any part of the car, make the necessary equipment, or just relax your soul, working with your hands at a locksmith or carpentry workbench. In some cases, you can even organize a small locksmith or carpentry workshop in the garage, if there is a desire and time. In any case, a workbench in the garage is needed like air. Serious craftsmen always have two of them - for working with metal and a wooden workbench, not counting the desktop and the machine.

How to organize a workbench in the garage

There are few options to get a workbench in the garage, most often the desired equipment can be purchased in one of the following ways:

  • Buy products of Chinese or domestic production;
  • Draw up drawings taking into account the required dimensions and order the manufacture of a workbench from familiar carpenters or locksmiths;
  • Make a workbench in the garage with your own hands.

It cannot be said that with the current abundance different instrument and garage equipment today it is impossible to buy a quality workbench. Moreover, even among domestic manufacturers there are many decent-looking models that would be quite suitable for working in a garage, but there is one condition.

Important! Standard version The size and design of the workbench is not always suitable for your individual height and arm span. In addition, not in all cases it is possible to shove a workbench into the space of your garage, designed for the scale of a locksmith's workshop.

It makes sense to order the manufacture of a workbench according to your drawings if it is not physically possible to make it for the garage with your own hands, for example, the room is not ready, or you do not have the necessary skills to work with welding or carpentry tools.

It is very important from the very beginning to correctly formulate the requirements for the design and decide where and how the workbench should be located in the garage:

  • Table height and dimensions top cover or countertops should be as comfortable as possible for your individual data. At the same time, there should be free space around the tool in the garage for at least an outstretched arm from the working position at the table;
  • Despite the fact that 99% of the work is done in a standing position, there should be a chair and a wooden grate near the workbench if the floor in the garage is concrete. At the same time, the entire set of accessories must not interfere with or in any way affect the vehicle or other vehicle stored indoors.

Advice! If you plan to do a lot of drilling, cutting or planing wood, get a vacuum cleaner, good exhaust ventilation and car cover.

How to make a workbench in the garage

The first experience of building equipment for the garage can be a simple wooden workbench or a wooden workbench. The design of a table made of timber is more affordable to manufacture, working with a saw, a jigsaw and a drill is much easier than cutting and welding a steel corner, from which professional quality locksmith tools are usually made.

We build a wooden workbench for assembly work

To build a workbench, we need:

  1. Wooden beam, preferably oak or pine, approximately 12-15 m, the material section is selected individually, based on the expected load on the workbench;
  2. Edged planed board, 20-30 mm thick, smooth, without knots and surface defects;
  3. Sheet plywood, 6-8 mm thick, three canvases 200x60 cm;
  4. A set of self-tapping screws for wood and steel corners, shelf size 50 mm and length from 50 to 70 mm, at least 40 pieces.

Advice! All cutting work must be carried out using a hand or stationary circular saw, cut the edges of the timber or boards only with a jigsaw or similar power tool.

In this case, even in the absence of carpentry skills, the cut is even, respectively, the entire design of the workbench will look like a factory one.

At the first stage, we make the frame of the workbench, while taking into account the dimensions of the space in the garage. To do this, you need to cut four vertical racks, four horizontal beams and five horizontal short cross braces. If the dimensions of the wooden workbench for the garage do not exceed two meters, you can use a bar with a section of 70x70 mm.

We cut off four vertical racks - two 90 cm high, two 150 cm each. The latter are made 60 cm higher, after the assembly of the workbench is completed, a plywood screen for the tool stored in the garage will be installed on them.

Horizontal beams too different sizes. To bandage the support legs of the frame in the lower part of the workbench, we cut off two sections of a beam of 150 cm each, to fasten the table top, we need sections of 200 cm.

We assemble the entire structure using steel corners and self-tapping screws, as shown in the diagram.

We assemble the tabletop by gluing together from plywood sheets and boards. After leveling and adjusting the dimensions of the boards and plywood, smeared with PVA-M or wood glue, we assemble in clamps until completely dry and cured. We sew the countertop along the contour with self-tapping screws.

We lay the tabletop on the finished frame and fasten it with self-tapping screws, after which the surface is carefully polished with an emery nozzle for an electric drill. We install the screen last and cover the entire structure with varnish so that in wet weather in the garage the wood of the workbench does not “lead”.

In appearance, the workbench for the garage turned out to be quite openwork, but in reality its strength is enough to withstand a load of more than one hundred kilograms. To increase rigidity, the rear racks can be anchored to the walls of the garage.

Option locksmith workbench from a steel corner

For the manufacture of the structure, we use a steel corner with a shelf width of 50 mm. Below is a sequence of operations for making a workbench in the garage with your own hands. Most of work is carried out in the garage by a grinder and welding machine, therefore, before starting work, you should practice and choose the best welding mode for metal with a thickness of 3 mm.

To begin with, we cut a blank for making a frame under the top plate of the workbench. The worktop for locksmith workbenches is best made as a one-piece or welded construction of steel sheet, plates or slabs. The recommended sheet thickness for a garage locksmith workbench is at least five millimeters.

After adjusting the dimensions of the plate, we lay the corner blanks on its surface, from which we will weld the base of the countertop. The cut blanks are carefully adjusted to corner connections, install on a flat surface, fasten with a clamp, weld and carefully clean the seams.

This is the hardest part welding work. If you have in your garage semi-automatic welding, blanks for the base frame are first welded together by conventional welding, and then tacked to the steel sheet with dots. It is rather difficult to perform such an operation by conventional welding, it is possible to burn or overheat the sheet, as a result, instead of a flat surface, a “flapping” wave will be obtained.

We cut off the “legs” for the workbench from the same corner and weld it to the base. If the workbench will stand on the ground or on the gravel of the garage, you will need to add special patches to the supporting part of the legs. If the structure needs to be fixed to concrete floor garage, in patches we drill holes for anchor bolts.

Next, we cut out horizontal transverse ties, which are welded at the bottom of the legs of the workbench. Thus, the structure becomes rigid and stable on any floor in the garage. If necessary, an additional diagonal strut can be welded to the rear of the frame.

To install boxes for spare parts and parts stored in the garage, we additionally weld horizontal guides under the table top. So that the drawers can slide out freely, we weld a pair of short longitudinal corners to the transverse segments. The boxes can be made separately or adapted from those already in the garage. In this case, the location of the guide corners has to be selected individually.

In addition, the corner guides will need to be carefully sanded, or strips of plastic sewn on so that the bottom of the boxes does not “cut” and is not damaged when moving. Otherwise, within a couple of weeks after installing the workbench in the garage, the required effort to pull out the drawers will increase several times.

After completing the assembly work, all welds will need to be carefully cleaned and treated with a phosphate primer, after which the metal surface is primed and painted in the color blue or green, which is beloved by machine builders. What color scheme is suitable for your garage, you choose. The working surface of the steel sheet of the countertop is not painted, at best it is polished or treated with an acid stain.

Conclusion

Making a workbench for your garage is a relatively easy and inexpensive process. The steel frame is able to withstand a load of several hundred kilograms, for example, from the suspension or engine of a car. Even with the purchase of all components and materials, the cost of manufacturing will be an order of magnitude less than the purchase option. Moreover, in most cases, real motorists and masters of repair and homemade products do just that.

Any economic man needs his own equipped workplace for storing tools and performing carpentry and plumbing work. In that case, just necessary element the workplace will become a workbench, and now we will tell you how to make a workbench on your own.

Indeed, in order to buy it, you will need to shell out a significant amount and, in addition, pick up right size it seems to be a rather difficult task for your premises. But if you do it yourself, you can choose the required size of the workbench with an accuracy of up to a centimeter.

What workbenches are

A workbench is a desktop on which the master performs manual work on the processing of wood, metal and other parts. Self-made workbenches are installed in the garage, in the country and even in the apartment. The workbench is equipped with various additional devices that may be needed during work, such as stops and vices. In addition, containers are installed in workbenches for storing various tools and even documentation. By type of work, joinery, carpentry and locksmith workbenches are distinguished.

Carpentry workbench

A standard carpentry workbench has this design. The main parts are the benchtop and the benchtop. Podverstache looks like a rack (usually two) that are interconnected wooden blocks. The material of this table element is usually pine or other soft wood.

The workbench or lid is made from hard rock wood, for example, oak, and has a thickness of up to 8 cm. The surface of the board is covered with drying oil. If you are going to assemble a workbench with your own hands, then you should know what additional devices you need to install on the countertop.

Note!

First of all, it should be a vice located in the front and used to fix parts.

In the back, you need to make a recess for storing tools in it. small size. On the edge of the workbench there are holes into which wooden chocks and metal combs are inserted. The standard workbench is suitable mainly for self made, and if you also want to use power tools, then for this you need to choose a workbench with a large number of holes for stops.

locksmith workbench

locksmith workbench more powerful building. It has metal carcass, on which a wooden cover up to 6 cm thick and covered with an iron sheet is laid. The lid is edged with a three-sided bead and, in most cases, a bench vise is installed on it. The tabletop on such workbenches is made powerful so that it can withstand high shock loads, including sledgehammers.

The material is chosen at will, but the most popular MDF is galvanized, which allows you to protect the countertop from the influence of aggressive environments such as gasoline, oils or solvents. In addition, this countertop is easy to clean from dirt. The locksmith's workbench is equipped with several retractable drawers for folding tools.

carpentry workbench

Another type of such structures is the carpenter's workbench. This workplace is designed for processing boards and has dimensions that are significantly larger than the previous two options. Its dimensions are up to 6 m long and 1 m wide. A stop for processing the board must be installed on the carpenter's workbench. It has a cutout in the form of a triangle, for fixing the board with wedges, and is used during the processing of its edges.

Making a construction workbench

Let's figure out how to make a carpentry workbench with your own hands. First you need to make a frame of bars, and between the legs, for strength, install a jumper and a drawer ( connecting element holding the structure together). It is desirable that they be located at a distance of about 45 cm from the floor. The installation of the workbench frame occurs in this order. First you need to prepare the grooves, then assemble the structure and coat the connection points with glue. We carry out the final fastening with the help of clamps.

Worktop for workbench

It is worth recalling that the manufacture of any design occurs more quickly and efficiently if you have at hand at least the simplest drawing of a carpentry workbench or part of it. Below we give a drawing of the table top, top view.

If the countertop is made of several boards, then it is necessary to ensure that there are no gaps between them, in order to avoid, during subsequent work, dust clogging there. The dimensions of the tabletop should be 3-5 cm larger than the workbench itself, for greater ease of cleaning the tool. The tabletop must be processed with a grinder and varnished. This will serve as protection against getting splinters in your hands.

Installing a vice and creating stops

After we have installed the countertop, we need to mount a vise on them. To do this, cut a recess on the work surface so that you can put vertical plate in the same plane as the tabletop. We put the vise in the place where they will stand in the future, it is desirable that this is not a corner, and we make a basting for drilling. Then fasten with nuts.

Note!

Stops can be purchased at the store, or you can make it yourself.

Then we advise you to make them rectangular in shape with the ability to adjust in height. It is desirable to make holes for stops for a length of 50% of the vise travel. In this situation, you can fix different workpieces well. A video instruction for making a workbench can be viewed in our article.

Making a locksmith's workbench

Let's look at how you can make a locksmith workbench with your own hands.

  1. Determine the height of the future table. For each person, it can be different, for example, if a man is 180 cm tall, then the height of the workbench is 90 cm. But still, for the final decision, you need to focus only on yourself.
  2. Do not forget that the drawings of the locksmith's workbench, drawn by you, will be useful for faster and better assembly.
  3. For a locksmith workbench, the frame is best welded from a profile pipe and corners, but in last resort it can be made in the same way as a carpentry structure, from bars.
  4. To make the structure as strong as possible, you need to put spacers between the legs. Sometimes, instead of spacers, a shelf is installed, in which you can later put the tool, paint and varnish liquids or other necessary items.
  5. For stability of the structure, you can attach the legs to the floor. This will prevent the workbench from shaking while working.
  6. Build a countertop from MDF and galvanize if possible. This will greatly increase its strength.
  7. If you want your workbench to be equipped with drawers, then place skids under the upper bars, similar to those installed for drawers in. Then you will have a storage space for small parts, screws and nails.

Folding workbench

There is another type of workbenches that are used for both carpentry and metalwork. This is a folding workbench. It is very convenient in the absence of extra space in the room. After working on it, you can always fold it and put it in a corner to wait. next job. In addition, it can be transferred to the country when folded. Such a workbench consists of two parts: a removable workbench and a folding table. It is usually made in smaller sizes than stationary table.
