How to make a table out of plywood with your own hands? A few examples of how to make a table from plywood, a pallet or a tabletop Interesting table from plywood

The reserves of natural building materials on our planet are limited, and are replenished much more slowly than they are consumed - therefore, the idea of using recyclable materials to make useful things is far from new and is especially popular in Lately. Moreover, some types of such raw materials are ideal for making excellent dinner table to the dacha or gazebo. And if you put in just a little effort and imagination, you can do great table to the kitchen.

About some interesting and original ideas for making stylish and, most importantly, comfortable tables, we will tell you in more detail. But it’s your task to make such tables, adding your own “zest” to their design.

Table made from pallets - solidity, solidity and reliability

To understand how to make a table from pallets with your own hands, the most in a simple way, you must first decide which of the pallet elements will be used to make the table.

The design of the pallet is shown in Fig. 1.

Flooring made from outer and intermediate boards is most often used for the table top and side planes of the table, and checkers (in some types of pallets they can be replaced with bars running along the transverse boards) are used as joints connecting parts of the table.

Loft style table - or designer table

For a table measuring 800x1200x750 mm, you will need 3 pallets. The table shown in photo 1 will require as many as 6 pieces, and can have different configurations, since it consists of two identical modules. Having made such a couple, you can model your kitchen space in different ways.

In addition to pallets, we will need: a nail puller, a manual Circular Saw, confirmations (or nails) for fastening parts of the structure, sanding machine, spatula, wood putty and paint, varnish.

Preparation for assembly of the structure. Disassemble the pallets as follows:

We assemble a U-shaped table structure by connecting the tabletop with pallets placed on the edges and tightening them with confirmata.

For reliability, you can additionally install furniture corners with reverse side countertops.

We connect the central checkers of the side parts of the table with an additional crossbar made from a transverse board remaining after dismantling the first pallet.

Finishing of the structure. Carefully fill the uneven surfaces of the table, paying attention Special attention table top and ends of boards. Allow the putty to dry and sand the external structural elements again. Paint it in the desired color and cover it with two layers of varnish.

As you can see, it is very easy to make a table from pallets with your own hands - all you need is imagination and attention to detail. Try to make the table yourself from photo 2 – you’ll see, you can do it!

Postforming table top: a classic of the genre in the right size

And again the good old classics, but created with my own hands.

You only need a very small piece of furniture countertop to save a lot on the purchase of a dining table for the kitchen. We will talk about how to make a table from a tabletop with your own hands. The classic kitchen table (photo 3) is practically no different from furniture purchased in furniture showroom– perhaps, the size of the countertop, ideal for your kitchen.

We will need following materials and tools:

  • A piece of chipboard countertop (if you buy it for these purposes, ask the sellers to immediately cut it to the required size);
  • A set of table legs - it would be optimal to buy round legs with a height of 710 mm (diameter 60 mm);
  • T-shaped furniture edging (with girths and installation tenon). All listed materials can be seen in Fig. 3.
  • The tools we will need are: a jigsaw, a sander (preferably a belt sander), a drill with a cutter attachment (or a circular saw), a screwdriver. You also need a hammer with a rubber nozzle, sealant, self-tapping screws for attaching the legs to the table top, a caliper and a regular drawing compass.

    After all the material has been collected and the tool has been prepared, you can begin to make a table from the tabletop with your own hands.

    Stage 1 of work – making the tabletop:

    Shaping;
    a) Make marks 10 cm from the corner on each side of the tabletop. The center of the rounding is at the intersection point of the perpendiculars drawn from these marks to the sides of the tabletop rectangle. The radius of the compass opening is 10 cm. We draw the roundings of all corners;

    b) Use a jigsaw to carefully file the corners of the tabletop along the marked arcs. To avoid chipping the finish of the slab, the jigsaw file must be taken with the teeth in reverse direction;

    c) Carefully process the cuts with a grinder;

    Edging;

    d) Using a caliper, measure the distance from the side of the edge to its spike. At the same distance from the top plane of the tabletop, draw a line along its end;

    e) Use a milling cutter to select a groove along this line;

    f) Using a hammer with a rubber nozzle, carefully hammer the edging with a tenon into the groove. For greater strength, it is advisable to apply silicone to the end;

    Legs;

    g) Mark the places for the table legs;

    h) Use 25 mm self-tapping screws to fasten the holders;

    i) Install the table supports.

    Birch plywood puzzle table: originality, simplicity and style

    How to make a table from plywood with your own hands can be seen in the diagram (Figure 4). This table will decorate any room.

    The material for making such furniture is better to take birch, sheet thickness is 30-35 mm.

    You will need: sheets of plywood - 2500x750 mm and 1500x1500 mm, drawing tool, jigsaw, PVA glue (if the product is planned to be non-separable), sanding machine, sandpaper and finishing materials.

    The peculiarity of a table made of plywood is its assembly without a single fastener, but how you can make it with your own hands as convenient as possible in terms of the height and size of the tabletop is up to you. Round table in Figure 4d it has a height of 750 mm and a tabletop diameter of 1500 mm.

    The manufacturing algorithm is as follows

    • Marking. In accordance with the drawing, parts A and B are absolutely identical in contour, the only difference is in the depth of the assembly grooves. Therefore, it is better to make one template (from whatman paper), and then use it to make markings on plywood. Pay attention to the red highlight: the stops of the grooves should be on the same line, and their width (as well as the height of the puzzle protrusions at the top of the parts) should be equal to the thickness of the plywood.
    • Sawing and processing of parts. Attention and precision are important here: the strength and stability of the product depend on them. Sanding, tinting and varnishing must be carried out on all parts of the parts, including the ends.
    • Assembly. If the previous steps are carried out well, assembly will not take much time: we connect parts A and B (into the groove), and we put part B on top of the puzzle ledges. If the fastening elements of the underframe protrude somewhat above the plane of the tabletop, they need to be leveled (with a grinder). We cover the parts with a final layer of varnish - the table is ready!

This article will help readers who want to try their hand at furniture design. We suggest starting experiments with making furniture from plywood. The article provides examples of popular works by famous designers, shows the basics of plywood processing, as well as making a rocking chair with your own hands.

Imagine the interior of your dreams, which reflects your individuality, emphasizes your character traits and status. Modern tendencies in interior design for the most part are inclined towards non-mass design items, but rather hand-made ones. However, there is an opinion that designer furniture has a very high cost and is often simply unavailable.

Factory-made furniture often does not meet individual preferences - it is simple, ordinary and typical, is not always of high quality and often quickly loses its original appearance. The “advantages” of factory-made furniture include a rather trivial design. As a result, every apartment with factory furniture is often an example of unattractive urban design. But I want something special and original.

Gothic leather furniture in the best traditions of post-art nouveau, designer Michael Haillard, France

There is a stereotype regarding designer furniture; it is associated with furniture made from expensive solid wood with luxurious leather trim. That’s how it is, but is it necessary to limit creative thought to such strict boundaries, because the author’s work presupposes, first of all, an idea that can be realized using various materials.

It is worth noting that heavy classic furniture has practically left the fashionable furniture Olympus with the exception of the works of several fashion designers, including the luxurious “animal” furniture of Michael Hallard. In turn, minimalism, which has led the furniture TOP, requires a completely different design approach, which also involves other materials for manufacturing.

Recently in search inexpensive materials To make furniture, designers paid attention to such simple and familiar plywood. Although plywood has long been used in the manufacture of furniture, various structural models are made on its basis; it is valued for its “ability” for absolutely fantastic transformations with relatively simple technological processing. At the same time, designer furniture made from plywood has a more affordable price than furniture made from solid wood.

Author's coffee table, designer Justin Couch, France

In the world of furniture design, there are famous names of designers who have made a name for themselves by making furniture from plywood. Their works became the prototype of industrial designs, which are deservedly popular among lovers of modernism; there are also samples that are made only by hand.

Designer fantasies in fashionable furniture interpretations

Almost every person is attracted by completely informal furniture solutions from fashionable Western designers. Worldwide author's design is developing in a completely different creative plane than industrial. In this creative space, the idea becomes part of the philosophical vision of the world, and the courage of the designer’s thoughts is elevated to a cult. There are no rules, much less prohibitions. Even functionality fades into the background. The main task of designer furniture is to delight consumers with its informal forms.

Many people wonder what creativity is? In this case, the creative approach only partially conveys the meaning of this quality of artists. Creativity is the ability to rethink reality, to create something that is often understandable only to him. creative idea and embody it, at first glance, in a trivial everyday object. Only a few original works have become the basis for industrial designs that successfully combine the main characteristics of factory furniture: ergonomics, functionality and technological ease of manufacture. The remaining models have become real examples of modern art.

Modern technologies Furniture production has not undergone significant changes in many respects. Furniture is made in almost the same “old-fashioned” way as several centuries ago, and plywood is considered one of the most used furniture materials.

Examples of Dressler brothers furniture, Canada

Simplicity of manufacture, sophistication, minimalism and the peculiar delicacy of plywood furniture samples due to the use of many carved parts fastened together - lamellas - allow you to take a completely different look at the seemingly trivial furniture material.

The modern pioneers of plywood in a new incarnation were the Dresler brothers (Jason and Lars Dressler). To make their elegant minimalist furniture models, they use high-quality birch plywood, which is cut on a special woodworking machine, processing, namely: grinding of elements, subsequent polishing, painting and final assembly, is done manually.

The ease of making lamellas from plywood and the possibility of producing highly decorative furniture models have led to various design experiments. An example is the original work of American designer Justin Couch, who uses contrasting applications made from cut plywood coated with acrylic putty.

Justin Couch uses two types of plywood - birch for light parts, walnut for blackened parts, this approach makes painting easier. His furniture is informal, elegant and extraordinary. Justin Couch's portfolio includes both exclusive designer models and products designed for mass production.

To some extent, the path of Justin Couch was repeated by American designer Hilary Wiezbenski, who founded a small company and makes designer furniture from plywood. She started by selling leaf tables. Over time, Hilary began experimenting with bent plywood. Inner admiration is evoked by the original shelf with a “flowing” clock, made entirely by hand from steamed plywood.

Plywood is universal, it can be used for making furniture, in interior design and allows you to achieve stunning effects and textures.

Author's models of plywood furniture

Most foreign design studios do not supply their products to Russia. Although delivery is possible, it often involves many difficulties. What to do if you want to decorate your home in a non-standard way and have a little free time and desire? The answer is simple, you can try to make furniture with your own hands. This is possible and, it turns out, not so difficult. The technology for processing plywood is quite simple, but we will talk about this later, and now we will pay attention to designer furniture models that you can try to make yourself.

Designer sun lounger for the garden and terrace

The original chaise lounge was created by the design company DesignKoalition. A sun lounger will provide you with maximum relaxation and relaxation in the fresh air. The base for the chair is made of plywood with a thickness of 18-21 mm, the guides are rigidly connected to each other wooden beams or metal pipe.

University lounge chair SOFT Rock

The University of Massachusetts developed an original chaise longue, which has become a real decoration of the university grounds. The chaise longue is made of flexible plywood, with a LED lights which is powered by solar panels. The interior of the chaise lounge, designed for relaxing, reading and studying, has excellent ergonomic properties.

Coffee table by Jeffrey Matthias

An interesting and simple table to make was proposed by American designer Jeffrey Matthias from Denver, a specialist in the field of industrial design. On his website you can see his portfolio, which includes drawings of products for making furniture yourself. The main quality of industrial plywood products is the most economical cutting of the plywood sheet, which is exactly how this table was designed. Jeffrey enthusiastically communicates with everyone who wants to reproduce his furniture models and asks to write to him with any questions that arise.

Children's tree table made of plywood

If you want to customize your children's room in a green design style, we recommend reproducing this model desk-tree. The table is made of plywood, the edges are treated with a special acrylic putty, which allows you to achieve the effect of plastic. The result is an extraordinary children's desk and chair with a vibrant finish. The table is made of plywood 24 mm thick.

Justin Couch Coffee Table

An interesting element in the living room will be the wonderful coffee table by Justin Couch in the modern baroque style. To achieve a similar “varnish” effect, special acrylic putties are used, which make the surface look like plastic.

Dresler brothers chairs

Of course, an exceptional example modern furniture The Dresler brothers' sun loungers are made from plywood. Such products are easy to manufacture; the only difficulty will be in the manufacture of lamellas. However, the result in the form of ready-made armchairs will add a special note of fashion to your interior.

Rocking chair by Toby Howes

Toby Hoves is a well-known furniture designer in Britain, his designs are distinguished by sophisticated elegance. They are excellent examples of contemporary furniture modernism. His portfolio includes a rocking chair made of bent plywood. Many craftsmen find it difficult to replicate such a chair. It is obvious that the plywood in this case is processed by hand.

Plywood table by Erwin Zwiers

The tabletop in this model is unique. It is made using twisted sheets of thin, flexible tropical wood plywood. Agree - the table is non-trivial and easy to make.

The success of the bench-chair is associated primarily with its exquisite ergonomic shape. Such chairs become an element of children's rooms, public spaces and ultra-modern living rooms. For manufacturing, lamellas are cut out and rigidly fastened together. The result is a stable and lightweight structure.

The legendary Asterisks watch by George Nelson

It is impossible to ignore the masterpieces of the famous American modernist George Nelson. Asterisks watches are especially popular among its models. Like everything ingenious, they are easy to make and can become part of your interior if you make them yourself from thick plywood, cover them with acrylic putty and, for example, yellow paint.

Technology for making furniture from plywood

Plywood is widely used in the furniture industry; it is used for the manufacture of structural and decorative parts. Plywood boards are distinguished by high strength and elasticity, which allows them to be used in various furniture structures, which as a result also have low weight.

Plywood grades and safety of use

You can find several types of plywood on sale, the most common in our region is birch plywood; other varieties can be imported from other countries. In general, plywood is divided into 5 grades, and sanded and unsanded plywood are also distinguished:

  1. FOF is a moisture-resistant laminated plywood, covered with a special layer of PVC film to provide additional moisture resistance.
  2. FSF is a moisture-resistant non-laminated plywood, usually birch, that is exceptionally waterproof. This is plywood with a wide range of applications, it is also used as a furniture material; phenol-formaldehyde glue is used for its production.
  3. FC is birch plywood produced using urea-formaldehyde resin.
  4. FBS - bakelite plywood, also called “marine” or “Finnish” plywood. This plywood is coated with bakelite varnish, which gives it special physical and chemical properties. Bakelite plywood does not change its performance under the influence of hot climates, moisture and sea water.

Regarding the safety of using plywood in furniture production There have been debates for a long time. For example, FSF plywood is made using resins with phenolic compounds, while FC uses urea (ammonia). According to GOST, only formaldehyde content is regulated. The question arises, what is the emission of formaldehyde and what level is safe? FSF plywood has lower emissions, which means it is safer.

All Russian plywood factories have an E1 safety certificate; plywood that meets the E0 certificate is available on the market; some factories are also certified to the “safer” CARB 1 and CARB 2 standards.

From the point of view of furniture safety, it is better to avoid Chinese plywood and opt for Finnish manufacturers who strictly comply with the requirements of the standards, and Finnish resins contain a minimum of formaldehyde. When choosing plywood for a nursery, you should also avoid laminated products that contain a high level of formaldehyde. Experience shows that the issue of environmental quality of plywood from various manufacturers is quite controversial.

The cost of plywood can vary depending on the type, manufacturer, and wood species used for its production.

Marine grade mahogany plywood. Marine plywood made from gaboon tree veneer (Acuomea Kleinea), native to the Congo, can be sourced from factories in Holland, Italy, Greece, France, Israel and the USA. A variation of this type of plywood is plywood made from the veneer of the Shorea tree, which grows in the Philippines, similar plywood more common under the names "meranti" and "luan", commercial varieties "yellow luan", "white luan", "red luan" and "red meranti" are also available. Typically this plywood comes in a thickness of at least 6.2mm, and the okume grade can be found in thinner sheets. The sheet size often does not exceed 1.22x2.44 m.

Plywood made of birch, cedar, beech, pine. As a rule, this is plywood with a wide range of applications, made from available wood in the country of origin. It is this kind of plywood that is most often used for making furniture; plywood with a beautiful decorative coating. Good stuff Russian plywood is used for making furniture; in many cases it is not inferior to foreign analogues.

Birch plywood

Flexible tropical wood plywood. This is an excellent option for making bent parts. Highly appreciated flexible plywood made of ceiba wood, also keruing, wig. During the production of flexible plywood, special qualities are given to it; any parts will have structural strength and will be self-supporting. This plywood was created specifically for design purposes. Ultra-light plywood has also been developed from ceiba and sumaum wood, which is almost 2 times lighter than its analogues. Tropical plywood is highly decorative; when coated with stain, its texture can be comparable to Wenge veneer, which is the most popular in furniture design.

Laminated plywood. This is a type of plywood that has a surface layer of laminate. For furniture production, laminated plywood with various finishing colors is used.

Plywood processing

Making furniture from plywood does not require significant professional training. Some furniture samples can be made using a jigsaw, router and drill; more complex parts can be cut on a CNC woodworking machine. Bent parts will be difficult to manufacture.

There are several ways to produce bent parts. The first method is to steam the plywood blank. This applies to traditional types of plywood, which do not bend. In the simplest case, the plywood blank is placed in a hot bath, where it is kept for about 30 minutes; while hot, the blank must be secured to the mold and left for 5-7 days. This method requires careful bending.

Method for manufacturing a curved blank

You can make a bent blank from several thin sheets plywood and give it the required form. In this case, flexible plywood made from tropical wood is used. To fix the mold, epoxy glue is used, which is applied on both sides of the workpiece. The glue is absorbed into upper layer plywood, polymerizes and then retains the given shape of the furniture part. Gluing plywood is done using ordinary carpentry glues - bone and flesh glue; casein glue is not used, as it leaves streaks. You can use glue made from synthetic resins.

Decorative ideas for plywood furniture

The shape of the furniture is not always self-sufficient; the design also involves a color scheme. In some cases, shape and color are dominant, such as in the Dresler brothers' chairs. British designer Erwin Zweers emphasizes the natural beauty of wood, and Justin Couch completely covers the wood texture with paint.

When making designer furniture, you can pay special attention, first of all, to painting the furniture using the decoupage technique. Here are several options for decorating furniture using this technique.

A wonderful pale pink plywood cabinet will add a unique flair to a young girl’s room. At first glance, the exaggeratedly simplified shapes of the cabinet are complemented by bright color scheme, which distinguishes this model from trivial industrial solutions.

Looking at this cabinet, you unquestioningly agree that the author’s design creates a special world around its owner. Latex paints and varnish were used for painting.

The plywood bureau, decorated in a botanical style using the decoupage technique, is very original. A whole series of furniture designed by the Martha Stewart Living design studio is made in this style. Floral motifs look very harmonious, and decorating furniture in this style is quite simple - the base is covered with primer, then a blank with a pattern is glued, and then varnished.

Instructions for making your own rocking chair

You can make furniture yourself, and it’s even easier to find a use for it. Even a not entirely successful first copy will decorate the interior of a dacha or terrace; in addition, some shortcomings can be hidden by painting or using textile decor. You can start your first experiments by making a rocking chair; it turns out it’s quite simple.

To make such a chair you will need desire, a little skill, affordable woodworking tools and plywood measuring 1520x800 mm and thickness 4, 10 and 15 mm.

At the first stage, the patterns of the chair parts are drawn. The pattern can be made by transferring the drawing onto cardboard with a cell size on a scale grid of 100x100 mm.

The drawing of the part is transferred to plywood and cut out with a router. It is necessary to arrange the parts in such a way as to perform the most economical cutting. For production you will need 3 sheets of plywood 15 mm thick. At the fastening points, holes are made for screws.

All cut parts are carefully carefully sanded and sanded with sandpapers of various grain sizes, only then the product is assembled. Typically, priming and painting are done disassembled. If it is necessary to check the functionality, the chair is pre-assembled.

The back of the chair and the seat are assembled from plywood strips, which are glued onto thin plywood 4 mm thick (parts 10-11). This results in a flexible backrest design. Parts 4-7, 8 and 9 are made from three sheets of plywood. Technologically, we recommend gluing together three sheets of plywood and only then cutting out the part.

Table. List of parts and materials

Part no. Name Qty Dimensions Materials
1 Sidewall 2 see fig. plywood 15 mm
2 Rack 2
3 Seat support 2
4 Plank 1 470x45
5 Plank 1 540x45
6 Plank 1 485x45
7 Plank 1 470x45
8 Seat bar 16 540x30 plywood 10 mm
9 Back strap 18 500x30
10 Back base 1 540x500 plywood 4 mm
11 Seat base 1 540x480
12 Step 1 length 535 mm, diameter 28 mm Beech, birch

A little effort and you can show off your chair self-made, perhaps this will be just the beginning, and you will have a new hobby that will also save your family budget. The simplicity of making furniture from plywood is truly surprising; it can also be achieved by women, who are always able to create something special from simple and uncomplicated things.

The variety of furniture options that can be made from plywood causes slight admiration for any person who does not even plan to make their own furniture. Indeed, plywood is an excellent design material that not only professional cabinetmakers can work with. Making furniture with your own hands is accessible to almost every person who wants to try their hand at furniture design. Moreover, you can use the “tips” of fashionable furniture designers working with plywood, or create something of your own.

It is furniture that makes living in a home comfortable and cozy. In this article, Dekorin will talk about how to make a table from plywood with your own hands. Of course, you can buy ready-made furniture in the store, but it is unlikely to perfectly match your wishes. You can make a table of the size you need with your own hands and be confident in the quality of the product. In addition, it is always nice to use furniture that you have made yourself.

What you need to know when working with plywood

No one will argue that a hand-made plywood table should not only be pleasing to the eye, but also be reliable and of high quality. To do this, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. It is important to cut the material correctly. Any cuts are best made using a professional tool - an electric jigsaw for wood. Moreover, you should choose a model with the smallest teeth so that the cutting quality is as good as possible.
  2. No less important point- strong fastening. To do this, you need to purchase screws designed for wood. In order to prevent cracks in the material, you initially need to make holes a couple of millimeters smaller than the self-tapping screw.
  3. Additional gluing. To make a plywood table more durable and reliable, its elements are glued together with special wood glue. Before gluing the parts, they need to be prepared (sand the surface and then get rid of dust).
  4. The elements must be bent correctly. So, if the material needs to be bent, it should be moistened with plenty of water. After this, you need to bend it and leave it for 12 hours to consolidate the result.

By following the above tips, you can make a high-quality table from plywood (as in the following photos).

DIY plywood desktop

A work desk is needed in every home, but you don’t have to buy one, because everything can be done with your own hands. By the way, such a plywood table can also be used as a desk. The procedure is as follows:

  • First you need to make a drawing of the future table. The main dimensions must be marked on it. So, you will know what to start from and make furniture the right size. Below you can see an example of such a drawing. Substitute your own dimensions or use ready-made ones.
  • Now you need to cut out all the elements (1 cover, 1 inner wall and 2 end walls), and this must be done carefully, and the ends must be processed immediately.
  • You need to drill two holes in each rack as shown in the diagram. It is important to use special furniture ties and a drill for them (as in the next photo).
  • Next you need to place the tabletop and attach it using furniture corners. Please note that the screws you use should be a few millimeters smaller than the thickness of the plywood (so they will not be visible).
  • The final stage is inspecting the plywood desktop, sanding the ends and gluing tape that will cover the visible areas (it needs to be specially heated with an iron or hairdryer).

If you need to do computer desk from plywood with your own hands, then in this design worth turning on additional elements for the system unit, keyboard and printer. It is again very convenient to connect the elements using European screws and special furniture corners. Below you can see the necessary drawings. Dekorin believes that this option the most optimal if you need to make a computer desk from plywood.

DIY plywood dining table

Every home should have a table where the whole family gathers in the evenings and has dinner. And it will be wonderful if the head of the family makes a dining table from plywood with his own hands. Psychologists say that the most favorable communication is facilitated by the absence of angles. So why not make a round table out of plywood? In addition, by making furniture yourself, you can always choose the ideal size of furniture specifically for your kitchen.

During the work you will need the following materials: wood screws, electric jigsaw, a drill and a grinding attachment, a confirm drill, wood varnish, as well as plywood, from which we will actually make the table.

It is important to consider that without sufficient experience it will be problematic to cut out the tabletop and the disc connecting the legs to the table. Therefore, if you are a beginner, it is better to consult a specialist. Show him the drawing in the following photo: you will need two circles (128 cm and 104 cm).

  1. Prepare all the parts that are in the photo for work. Use sanding to make the surface smooth.
  2. Take an electric jigsaw and make grooves in the slats, as in the photo below.
  3. Apply glue to the joints and insert the groove into the groove.
  4. Assemble the slats and legs using euroscrews as shown in the drawing.
  5. Now you need to connect the table legs to the binding ring using confirmats and glue.
  6. The underframe is secured to the tabletop using 35-40 mm self-tapping screws.
  7. We inspect the round plywood table and, if necessary, correct unevenness and other imperfections.
  8. Finally, we coat the finished furniture with wood varnish.

The plywood kitchen table is ready!

DIY children's table made of plywood

Sooner or later, the child will need his own table for his first developmental activities, creativity and study. It’s good if you make it yourself, because you can make furniture that is suitable in size and height specifically for your child. The usual option - four legs and a table top - is quite suitable for a child's room.

For a children's table made of plywood you will need four bars (4x4 cm). They will act as legs. The tabletop can be made like this: cut two even boards of the required size, knock them down, and cover them with plywood on top.

To screw the legs to the frame, you need to do the following:

  • Mark where the frame will be. Draw a rectangle, all sides of which will be 5 cm larger than the frame.
  • Place the leg where it will later be attached and trace it. This should be done with all the legs.
  • Make sure that the frame does not reach the edge by the width of the table leg plus the 5 cm that we retreated.
  • Now the frame bars need to be screwed to the tabletop.
  • Screw the legs to the frame itself.
  • Grind children's table from plywood until it becomes smooth and even.
  • Finish with wood varnish if desired.

If you want, decorate such a table at your discretion. The child will definitely appreciate it new furniture in your room.

DIY plywood coffee table

This version of a plywood coffee table is perhaps the simplest, and even a beginner in furniture making can handle it. So, first, cut out a sheet of plywood and four legs from the blocks (all measurements are on the diagrams). Make bevels on each leg at the very end using a miter saw. Next, you need to make holes on all four parts in the same way as in the photo. These elements are similar to each other, but they must be manufactured differently (depending on where they are located). Assemble the furniture in the same way as in the diagram. Coffee table made of plywood and blocks is ready!

Furniture made at home is of fairly high quality, and often it takes much less time and money than purchasing and delivering similar furniture from a store. To make a table from plywood with your own hands, it will take a little time, but the result will be exactly what you want in the end, without additions or shortcomings.

In order for a plywood table to serve for a long time, it must be varnished.

Preparation and cutting

Tools and materials:

  • roulette;
  • jigsaw;
  • pencil;
  • plywood;
  • beam;
  • drill.

At the very beginning, you need to choose the future design that should be implemented. There can be a great variety of such options depending on tastes and capabilities, as can be seen in Fig. 1, 2 and 3. They often introduce their own unique modifications, but at times the design is simplified.

In this case, the choice falls on the last option, which is characterized by high strength, ease of assembly, and at the same time it will be necessary to perform almost all possible operations. In addition, not only plywood is used here, but also timber (75 * 200 mm), which makes the future structure perfectly durable.

For a table built with your own hands, only laminated plywood of 18 mm and thicker is used, because... Different loads are expected in the future. The best option 20 mm, because it will withstand even very heavy loads.

Scheme for assembling a table made of plywood: A – table top; B – table leg; C – support for the leg; D – tabletop crossbar; E – horizontal piping.

At the very beginning you need to cut the material into components:

  • slab 1200*800 mm – segment A;
  • slab 150*1100 mm – segment E;
  • beam 687 mm (2 pcs.) – segments C and D;
  • beam 600 mm (2 pcs.) – segment B.

After sawing you need sandpaper Use a scratch pad to rub all the cut areas on the plywood to remove any excess that appears there.

Segment E is trimmed 10 cm on each side (you need to trim exactly 5 mm) to get “spikes”. At the ends, these spikes are drilled horizontally or vertically in order to install fasteners. The cut areas are rubbed down again.

With the timber, in turn, work continues:

Sketches of a plywood table for cutting and finished look products.

  1. The 687 mm timber is sawn lengthwise in half. This procedure will allow you to form 4 load-bearing sections to balance on the floor and hold the tabletop.
  2. On those segments that will be located on the floor, you need to form legs. To do this, an indent of 190 mm is made from the ends and a mark is made with a pencil. An arc line is drawn between these marks, which at its highest point is 50 mm.
  3. A cut is made along the line, after which 200 mm is measured in the central part of the same segments, and the sides can be cut to any shape of interest (sometimes left rectangular).
  4. Another 2 bars are cut in the central part so that they can fit perfectly with the vertical bars. Cutting depth 40 mm. The edges can be given any desired shape if desired.
  5. All elements are rubbed with sandpaper and treated with an antiseptic solution against moisture and insects.

Assembly

Tools and materials:

  • screwdriver;
  • beam;
  • plywood;
  • furniture plugs;
  • bolts with nuts;
  • furniture screws;
  • edging;
  • flat brush.

Now the most interesting part - you need to assemble the table with your own hands. First you need to make a supporting structure:

  1. 2 vertical posts are assembled, and for secure joints you can use furniture screws. For them, small-diameter holes are initially drilled, after which they can be fixed. Otherwise, you may get a crack at the exit.
  2. The racks are connected to each other by an oblong plate. The plate is fixed in any convenient way through the holes made. The most commonly used are ordinary bolts and blind nuts with rounded heads. When fixing, it is advisable to use washers to slightly expand the area of pressure when tightening.

Tools for metalwork: 1 - steel ruler; 2 - protractor; 3 - compass; 4 - scriber; 5 - bench vise; 6 - hand vice; 7 - files; 8 - hammer; 9 - hand scissors; 10 - hacksaw; 11 - adjustable wrenches; 12 - pliers; 13 - soldering iron; 14 - hand drill; 15 - table anvil; 16 - table sharpener; 17 - chisel; 18 - punch; 19 - center punch.

Now you can put the tabletop in place and tighten it with screws. The joint is made in the manner described above, but it is very important not to pierce the slab itself (maximum depth 2/3). For this purpose, drills are equipped with a depth gauge, but if it is not there, then the drill should be wrapped with electrical tape. the right level, after which you can drill.

For reliable fixation, you will need to screw in 4 furniture screws on each side (8 pcs in total), under which washers must be placed. If desired, you can increase the number of joints by drilling a hole in the supporting structure and table top and inserting dowels there.

After all the work is completed, you need to glue the edge of the tabletop with a special edging, which will hide its structure from public view and will also prevent moisture from getting inside. All screws, in turn, are closed with special furniture plugs. The beams are coated with a layer of varnish, after which the structure is left for 36 hours to dry completely. Even the fastest drying varnishes continue to be thrown away environment harmful fumes for at least 24 hours.

Despite the fact that furniture plywood is an environmentally friendly and wear-resistant material, it is quite difficult to find a finished kitchen made from it. But what prevents you from assembling the headset yourself? We are preparing a kitchen project made from plywood, picking up the tools and starting manufacturing. Such an environment will be pleasant at the price and will last a long time - about 20 years. And you don’t have to adjust your headset to standard sizes manufacturers. It’s not easy to make plywood with your own hands, but every centimeter of it turns out to be as functional as possible.

You can make furniture from plywood sheets yourself

Which plywood to choose for the kitchen

Plywood is glued sheets of veneer, of which there is always an odd number. Wear resistance and strength are achieved by placing the fibers of each sheet in different directions each other relative to each other. Birch or conifers, wherein inner part can be coniferous (GOST 3916.2-96), and the top is made of birch veneer. Plywood from hardwood(GOST 3916.1-96) is considered to be of higher quality and costs more.

Material classification

There are several parameters by which the material is classified:

  • Brand - determines moisture resistance and scope of application. Main types of FC, FSF, FKM, FOF, FBA
  • Variety - set by appearance every surface. The letter E denotes the highest quality, then there is a decrease from grade I to grade IV. The grade is determined separately for the face and the back - 1/1, 2/2, ¼ and other combinations
  • Surface treatment - unsanded plywood is marked with the letters NSH. If there is one sanded side - Ш1, if both sides have a polished surface - Ш2
  • Formaldehyde content - the letter E with an index in the range 1-3 indicates the environmental friendliness of the material

Kitchen plywood must be free of formaldehyde

To make kitchen set Do-it-yourself plywood sheets with average moisture resistance and no formaldehyde are selected.

More about brands and sizes

Let's give brief description the main brands of plywood, so that you can immediately see which of them is suitable for making furniture and which is not:

  1. FC - adhesive composition based on urea resins, medium moisture resistance, used for interior work or furniture making
  2. FSF - usually used for outdoor work, moisture resistance is high. Formaldehyde resins are used as glue, so furniture is not made from FSF plywood
  3. FKM - synthesis of FK and FSF, veneer sheets are glued with melamine resins, suitable for any work, characterized by high moisture resistance and strength
  4. FBA - albumin casein glue is used to join sheets; the material has a high degree of environmental friendliness, but low moisture resistance
  5. FOF - laminated plywood. The material is covered with a film of various colors, is used in construction and furniture production, and is more expensive than other materials

It turns out that plywood for furniture is selected from materials marked FK, FKM, FOF. Standard sizes of sheets are given in table No. 1.

Table No. 1

What to make kitchen furniture from

When choosing plywood for furniture, attention is paid to the following indicators:

  1. Quality of gluing, wood
  2. General view of the sheet
  3. Wood species - deciduous, more resistant to temperature changes and high humidity
  4. Country of origin - preference is given to Russia, since Chinese materials do not have the necessary environmental friendliness, and Finnish plywood is too expensive

Considering standard size plywood sheet, material properties, quality, grade and price optimal choice becomes the FC brand. The selected grade is ½, sheet size 1525×1525 with a thickness of 6, 12 and 18 mm. You can make plywood products with your own hands from laminated sheets, but the cost of the material differs significantly from the FC brand.

Laminated plywood will help you build a beautiful kitchen

Kitchen measurements and design project

Accurate measurements plus a verified sketch of the headset will allow it to be manufactured with high quality and reliability. The main advantage of such furniture is the individuality of execution.

When doing this, you should take into account ergonomic standards, the height of the housewife, the geometry of the kitchen, and the wishes of family members

Stage No. 1 - kitchen measurements

The dimensions of the room are measured taking into account protrusions, niches, and passing communications. The parameters are transferred to a sheet of graph paper in accordance with the scale. Instead of drawing by hand, using computer programs for creating 3D sketches.

Stage No. 2 - sketch development

An initial version of what a kitchen made of plywood looks like, taking into account the arrangement, is being worked out household appliances. Then the specific dimensions of the furniture sections - cabinets, shelves, drawers - are thought out. Taking into account the individual characteristics of the project, adhere to the developed ergonomic standards for kitchen furniture (Table No. 2). Dimensions are given in centimeters.

Table No. 2

Additional sizes:

  1. For drawers suitable width 30-40 cm
  2. Plywood shelves are placed at a distance of 30 cm from each other
  3. Shelf width = cabinet width - 36 mm (frame is made of 18 mm sheet)
  4. The distance between the upper and lower tiers is 45-65 cm

Don't forget that this approximate dimensions, which are adjusted depending on specific circumstances.

Stage No. 3 - drawing up a design project

The sketch is complemented by the verified dimensions of cabinets, cabinets, drawers, and shelves. Additionally, the dimensions of the facades are calculated taking into account technological gaps. An individual calculation is carried out for each furniture unit. is done in two projections indicating the dimensions, dimensions of technological holes and grooves. This will help you choose the dimensions of the plywood sheet to minimize the cost of purchasing materials.

Kitchen design made of plywood can be the most fantastic, it all depends on your imagination

Preparation of materials and accessories: plywood sheets and more

Let's consider which plywood, fasteners, and accessories to choose.

Dimensions plywood sheets that need to be purchased depend on the items being manufactured:

  1. Thickness 18 mm - used to assemble the frame; for cabinets, shelves are cut from plywood of the same thickness.
  2. Thickness 12 mm - selected for the manufacture of facades of floor cabinets.
  3. Plywood thickness 6 mm - suitable for wall cabinet doors that are reinforced with stiffeners.

Fasteners

The next step is to decide how the parts will be attached to each other. As experience shows, when making furniture from plywood with your own hands, it is enough to use only screws. Plywood sheets do not delaminate, do not crumble, and hardware does not come loose in the holes. Using furniture minifixes to fasten elements at home is more than problematic, since the highest precision in cutting holes in three planes is required. Having exact drawing, you can contact specialized workshops to make holes.

Be sure to make a drawing and then you will understand how much material and what shapes you need

So, to connect the parts you will need:

  • Screws, minifixes or confirmats - European screws with a countersunk head
  • Glue, silicone sealant

Fittings and finishing

This includes handles, hinges, closers, decorative plugs, if minifixes are not used. It should be remembered that kitchen furniture made of plywood is not overloaded with fancy fittings.

For painting you will need putty and paint, for pasting with film you will need putty and self-adhesive. Furniture can be covered with stain and varnish.

Tool preparation

The kit depends on how you plan to cut plywood. It is recommended to do this in a furniture workshop, since the process requires high precision and the presence of a plunge-cut saw with a cutting attachment sheet materials. You will need:

  1. Cordless screwdriver or screwdrivers, drill, drill set
  2. Hammer, chisels, files, chisel, plane, hammer, mallet
  3. Plunge saw, jigsaw, hacksaw
  4. Tape measure, ruler, square

A standard set of tools should be in every home

Preparing parts

The parts are marked on a sheet of plywood. Cutting is carried out at home if available the necessary tool or in a furniture workshop. Plywood blanks are sanded and sanded. If you plan to paint or cover with film, then the parts are puttied in two layers and then sanded. To simplify the manufacturing process, furniture laminated plywood is used - its surface is already covered with film and does not require additional processing.

Making a headset: assembling the frame and beyond

To make furniture from plywood, you will need to assemble a frame, hang doors, install shelves and drawers.

Plywood has sufficient strength, so timber is not used to assemble the frame. The parts are marked for screws or confirmations. Using a special stepped drill, holes are made with threaded and non-threaded parts, and a recess for the Euroscrew head. For a regular screw, countersinking is carried out with a drill larger diameter. Mounting with front side This is done using minifixes, then there is no need to install decorative plugs, but Euroscrews are also suitable.

Before tightening the parts, the ends are coated with silicone sealant.

The kitchen set made of plywood will be finally ready when the doors are hung on the frame, shelves and drawers are installed. The holes for the fittings are marked and drilled in advance, and the guides for the drawers are installed before the frame is assembled.

Assembling the headset requires care and painstaking approach

The doors are made of 6 mm thick sheets, and stiffening ribs give them stability. To cut out plywood shelves with your own hands, take material 18 mm thick. The front edges are chamfered, the sections are puttied or sanded for painting or covering with film. When processing with varnish, sanding is sufficient.

Tightening the headset self-adhesive film, give preference to expensive and quality material- Chinese film does not hold up well and looks bad

Furniture made from laminated plywood- a variety of shades allows you to choose a material that suits a specific design.

DIY tabletop

Looks great working surface made from laminate. Economical option It’s easy to implement on your own by choosing a coating to match the headset or playing with contrast. The joints of the panels must be coated with sealant to avoid the harmful effects of moisture on the laminate. The front edge is closed with a decorative metal corner.

The high moisture resistance and dimensions of laminated plywood also allow it to be used as a tabletop. The film reliably protects the material from the penetration of liquids, and the edges are impregnated with a moisture-repellent composition.

Making a dining table

To give your kitchen a finished look, try making your own rectangular shaped plywood dining table with two wide legs.

A plywood table can be made of absolutely any shape

To do this you will need the following supplies:

  1. Plywood for the tabletop - sheet 80×120 cm, minimum thickness 18 mm - 1 piece
  2. Horizontal strapping - plywood strip 15×110 cm - 1 piece
  3. Tabletop and leg supports - timber with a section of 7.5×20 cm and a length of 68.7 cm - 2 pcs.
  4. Table leg - timber with a cross section of 7.5×20 cm, length 60.0 cm - 2 pcs.

You will need to work on every detail to make a plywood table.

Supports for table top and legs

The beam is sawn lengthwise, resulting in 4 pieces measuring 7.5x10x68.7 cm. The elements that are adjacent to the floor are shaped into legs. Marks are placed at a distance of 20 cm on each side, between which an arched line is drawn with a maximum height of 5 cm. The outer part of the support for the legs is rounded or left rectangular.

In each tabletop support, a part of a rectangular block is cut out in the center to a depth of 40 mm - the table leg should fit into the recess. The outer edges are rounded.

Table legs, horizontal strapping and table assembly

The legs are left rectangular or given a curly shape. A horizontal strap holds them together, and the part is chamfered.

After sanding the workpieces and treating them with an antiseptic solution, a plywood table is assembled:

  1. Connect table legs to tabletop supports and floor elements
  2. Tighten the structure with a horizontal strap, installing it between the legs
  3. Place the tabletop, tighten it with screws from below through the supports - you will need at least 4 screws on each side

All parts are fastened together with euroscrews, the caps of which are closed with plugs. The table is coated with varnish that dries for 36 hours.
