Artificial decorative stones in garden design. Jewelry, furniture and other wood products using epoxy resin How to make jewelry from epoxy resin

Transparent epoxy resin is a versatile material that allows you to make original table, bijouterie, 3D floors. See how to create it yourself.

Transparent resin: types and their characteristics

For home creativity, epoxy is most often used. But in addition to making jewelry and souvenirs from it, this material is used to create polymer floors with a fashionable 3D effect. Due to this, the lower part of the room resembles the ocean with its underwater inhabitants, flowering fields and everything you could wish for.

The self-leveling floor is multi-level, one of the layers is a special canvas on which a pattern is applied using color printing technique. What plot is captured there, this will be on self-leveling floors. Their surface is transparent resin, so the image on the canvas is clearly visible.

Products from epoxy resin are durable, resistant to water, sun. One of the most popular Magic Crystal-3D epoxy resins. It is used to create jewelry, decorative items, 3D fills and glossy finishes.

Also, to create polymeric floors, Epoxy CR 100 epoxy resin is used, which is characterized by antistatic, wear resistance, good chemical resistance.

Epoxy resin is sold with a solvent. Usually these two substances are mixed in a ratio of 2:1 immediately before use.

The second type of resin is acrylic. It is also used to create a self-leveling floor, souvenirs. Acrylic resin is used for the manufacture of bathtubs, waterfalls and artificial reservoirs, molds for casting products. Artificial stone is made from this material, including artificial marble.

Perhaps you have heard about transparent designer sinks and bathtubs. For them, this type of resin is used.

Also, transparent polyester resin is used to create sanitary products. But this type of polymer is most often used in industrial production and not at home. Transparent polymer resin is used in the automotive industry, shipbuilding industry, auto-tuning. Fiberglass, known to almost everyone, is made from polymer resins.

The most popular for home art is epoxy, as it is cheaper than acrylic. But for the production of small items of jewelry, it is better to take acrylic, which does not pick up air bubbles, like epoxy. However, there are subtleties that will help prevent this trouble when working with cheaper material. You will soon learn about them.

How to make an epoxy resin countertop?

If you need to update the old one, then take advantage of interesting idea. To implement it, you will need:
  • coins;
  • epoxy resin with a thickener;
  • pliers;
  • ticks;
  • varnish on water based;
  • autogen;
  • wooden slats;
  • glue.
If you are decorating wooden surface wash it, let it dry, prime and paint. If you have an old countertop with a coating, you need to remove it, then cover it with paint.

The most difficult thing is to bend the coins, cut them. Pincers and pliers will help you, as well as male power. But if any of this is not there, do not make the side ends on the tabletop, place the coins only at the top, it will still turn out beautifully.

Coins will need to be washed. There are several ways to do this:

  1. Pour Cola drink into the pan, lower the coins, put on fire. The solution will boil and clean your money. You can simply fill the coins with this drink, do not heat it, but leave it overnight. By morning they will be clean.
  2. Put the pot with coins and water on the fire. When the liquid boils, add some vinegar and soda. The solution will foam, so add enough water to fill the pot no more than half way.
  3. Take advantage special tool for purification, which is called Tarn-X. It is bred in water according to the instructions, not in food utensils, coins are lowered there. The container must be carefully twisted over the sink in order to evenly moisten the money and thus wash them.
After applying any of these methods, it is necessary to rinse the coins well in running water and put them to dry on towels. But you can buy new coins in the bank.
  1. Here's how to make the tabletop itself. Spread coins on its surface, after which you need to fill them with a mixture of epoxy resin with a thickener. But before that, you need to prepare.
  2. If you do not want to mess around for a long time, lay cellophane under the surface to be treated, and you can pour the resin. But after mixing with a thickener, you need to leave the mass for a while so that it hardens a little, not too liquid.
  3. In any case, it will flow down a little, so in order to save the solution, you need to periodically collect these drops with a spatula, apply where there is little resin. But even if this is not done, the worn resin will be on the cellophane, which at the end of the work you just need to throw away.
  4. You can first make wooden slats or bars edging for countertops, then place the coins, pour epoxy.
  5. Don't be disappointed if you see air bubbles on the surface being created. We drive them out with an autogenous flame.
  6. Now you need to let the product dry completely, it will take a couple of days. At this time, the main thing is that no one touches the surface, dust and animal hair do not settle.
  7. After the resin has completely dried, cover the surface with a water-based varnish, after it dries, the new product is ready for use.

If you are interested in this process and there is a whole piggy bank of coins, or maybe the old denomination of metal money remains, then make a self-leveling floor, for example, in the bathroom or in the kitchen.

Epoxy resin jewelry: bracelet and brooch

See how to make a stylish bracelet out of this material.

For him, take:
  • a set consisting of epoxy resin with a thickener;
  • silicone mold for the bracelet;
  • plastic cup;
  • toothpick;
  • stick (can be from ice cream);
  • scissors;
  • dried flowers;
  • disposable syringes.

Pour 2 parts resin and 1 part thickener into a glass.

Use disposable syringes to measure the exact amount of thickener and epoxy. To form as few air bubbles as possible, mix these compounds slowly.

If air bubbles still remain, let the mixture stand for a while so that they disappear. But do not bring it to a strong thickening.

Pour the sticky mixture into the bracelet mold. Put dried flowers cut with scissors there, helping yourself with a toothpick. You can also pierce air bubbles with them so that it comes out.

Leave the bracelet to harden for a day, then carefully remove it from the mold and try on a new one. fashion accessory.

Instead of dried flowers, you can decorate the bracelet with buttons of a beautiful color.

If you want to make a brooch in the shape of a butterfly, then watch the next master class.

For her you will need:
  • dry butterfly bought in a store;
  • scissors;
  • epoxy resin with solvent;
  • two toothpicks;
  • gloves;
  • aqua varnish;
  • brooch mechanism.
Manufacturing instructions:
  1. Cut the butterfly into 5 parts: separating the wings and body. Cover these parts with aqua varnish first on the reverse side.
  2. Lay the blanks on the surface covered with foil. Suitable for this tile on which the package is put on and fixed.
  3. Apply varnish and front side butterflies. While it dries, dilute the epoxy with the solvent, stirring slowly.
  4. Place the container in a warm place so that the solution thickens a little and does not drip from the workpieces when pouring. Cover them with a small layer, smear it on the surface with a toothpick.
  5. We wait until the parts dry, then cover them with an epoxy mixture from the back. We also wait for this layer to dry, after which we dilute the third portion of the solution, set it aside so that it thickens well, but is plastic. This will make it easy to glue the wings to the body, which you will do. At the same time, give the wings the desired position.
  6. Attach the remaining solution to the back of the brooch metal mechanism. Remove the jewelry, covering it from dust so that the solution is completely dry.
That's how you got a beautiful new brooch.

How to make a pendant: 2 master classes

See what other wonderful resin jewelry you can make yourself.

You will need:
  • epoxy resin with hardener;
  • metal form;
  • disposable cups and spoons;
  • small scissors;
  • mandarin;
  • stained glass paint;
  • varnish for fixing Fimo Vernis brillante;
  • stained glass paint;
  • sandpaper;
  • fastening for a brooch;
  • silicone compound Alcor.

Peel the tangerine. Take the most beautiful slice, carefully, catching the skin with scissors, remove it from one side. On the other hand, a pin will subsequently be attached, not to a slice, but to a blank from it.

Make 2 slices in this way, put them in a mold. Knead the silicone compound, pour it into the prepared container. Let the silicone dry.

Now you can remove the slices from the container, throw them away, and rinse the mold itself in cold water. If the edges of the recesses are uneven, trim them with scissors.

After a day, the silicone will completely harden, then you can pour the prepared epoxy solution into the mold. When the workpiece is dry, sand it a little with a fine sandpaper or engraver. Attach to reverse side blanks for a brooch clasp, paint the tangerine with orange stained glass paint. First apply 1 layer, then the second. After they dry, go over the surface with varnish.

Here are some wonderful tangerine-shaped epoxy decorations that can be made if you are diligent.

If you want to learn how to make a round pendant, then check out another tutorial. For it you will need:
  • dried flowers;
  • molds for filling a round shape;
  • epoxy resin;
  • thickener;
  • disposable plastic cups;
  • tweezers;
  • scissors;
  • sandpaper;
  • polishing paste;
  • felt nozzle;
  • pendant accessories.

If you do not have round molds, then take a plastic ball. It needs to be cut in half, lubricated inside with petroleum jelly. After pouring the resin, seal the cut with plasticine so that it does not flow out.

In the absence of purchased dried flowers, make them yourself from a presented bouquet. Bulk flowers, such as roses, dry by tying the stems, lowering the buds down. If you want to dry individual petals, then put them between the pages of an old book. Fragile voluminous flowers are dried in a container into which semolina is poured.

It is important to dry these blanks well, because if the process is performed poorly, the flower or part of it will eventually rot while in the pendant. In order for the plant to retain its color for as long as possible, take an epoxy resin that protects from ultraviolet radiation.

Collect a mini-bouquet by gluing flowers, petals, leaves with epoxy mixed with a thickener.

When it hardens, carefully place this little bunch into a round mold or half a plastic ball. A freshly prepared solution of the epoxy mixture must be left for 2-3 minutes so that air comes out and its bubbles do not spoil appearance products. Now you can pour the resin into the mold, wait until it thickens.

Until such a ball is obtained, it will not be quite even in shape. To fix this, first go over the surface with coarse-grained sandpaper, then with fine-grained sandpaper. It is better to do this in water so that there is no dust, and the process goes faster.

The next step is polishing. For this, polish for plastic or for headlights, bought at a motorist store, is well suited. Apply it to the felt nozzle, walk around the workpiece from all sides.

Here's how to make the pendant next. To attach the chain to the balloon, take a cap and a pin.

Put a pin on the hat, use round-nose pliers to fold it into a loop. Glue this blank to the pendant with epoxy.

It remains to attach the chain and wear such an unusual pendant with pleasure.

And now we invite you to sit comfortably in a chair, watch an informative story on how to make a ring out of wood and epoxy.

It’s not worth saving, because cheap and low-quality material can turn yellow, has too sharp and bad smell, low degree of plasticity and transparency.

All these properties determine the quality, aesthetics of jewelry. It is important that the resin completely imitates glass or transparent ice; amazing compositions from any natural materials. How to choose epoxy resin? The material is safe, it is a transparent liquid, it contains chemical resins and hardeners. In the process of mixing these ingredients, polymerization and solidification occurs.

Valuable for its unique properties, the product is widely used by decorators, designers, artists, manufacturers of jewelry and souvenirs. If you learn correct work with epoxy resin, you can create magical 3D effects, protect any craft from dust, scratches, moisture. As a rule, for creativity, manufacturers prepare complex kits that include the chemical product itself, gloves, a measuring cup for ease of mixing, and a stick for kneading the substance. Preference should be given to proven manufacturers in order to avoid harm to precious health. The main secret success - strict adherence to the instructions and proportions of the epoxy composition.

Epoxy resin

Despite the relative chemical safety, maximum care should be taken in the work:

  • avoid getting the resin on the mucous membranes, skin of the hands, work with gloves, a medical mask or a protective petal;
  • if glaze particles still get on the skin or mucous membranes, immediately rinse the area with running water;
  • it is forbidden to use resins for the manufacture of products that come into contact with food;
  • work with the epoxy composition should be carried out in a ventilated area;
  • when turning products, be sure to wear a respirator so that the particles do not get on the mucous membrane.

Compliance with simple safety rules can make the creative process more comfortable.

To learn this art, experienced needlewomen have a few secrets:

  • Filling forms. The forms, which the craftsmen call molds, must be made of high quality platinum silicone. This type of molding makes it possible to control the filling at any stage, as well as to comfortably remove the product after solidification. After work, be sure to wash the molds with warm soapy water.
  • Temperature regime. You should know that the polymerization process is closely related to the release of heat. During chemical reaction resin can be heated up to high temperature even up to 60 degrees. Please note that the form for pouring blanks must be heat-resistant.
  • Required consistency. Before the polymerization stage, the resin retains the properties of a viscous liquid. If dry filler is used, such as cork, wooden slices or crumb, it goes down. This should be taken into account when distributing the composition.
  • Transparency. The main difficulty faced by newcomers and experienced craftsmen, are air bubbles.

To make the surface and structure of the product as transparent as possible, you can let the mixture stand for a bit and then heat it up. So the bubbles will float up, after which they can be carefully removed.

  • Decor use. In this matter, everything is limited only by the imagination of needlewomen. Small cones, leaves and flowers, dried flowers, glitters, rhinestones, beads are the most popular decor for making beautiful epoxy resin jewelry. Using leaves and flowers, it is better to dry them first. The classic way is like at school, between the pages of a book.

You should not save on accessories for your jewelry, the stingy, as they say, pays twice! Agree, because it is very important what the compositions nurtured with such difficulty are framed inside a transparent drop.

The algorithm of work is the following:

  • Let's prepare the epoxy. Strictly according to the instructions, knead all the ingredients, and then leave the resin to set the desired viscosity, for about 2-3 hours. Do not be afraid, initially a lot of air bubbles collect in the resin. After the mass settles, they gradually disappear.
  • We draw several stencils on a sheet of paper. You can make them of any shape, oval, round or even irregular, so the product looks more interesting.
  • While the mixture thickens, prepare the surface. This stage is very important, because every small speck of dust will break the delicate aesthetics. transparent decoration. The surface should be perfectly flat, it can be covered with oilcloth or cling film on top.
  • We lay out our stencils on the oilcloth, and cover them with ordinary stationery files on top. We begin to pour the resin directly onto the file, distributing it according to the stencil, and adjusting the edges with a stick or a toothpick. The height of the workpiece should be equal to 2-3 centimeters. Cover the top with a domed lid.
  • We leave the blanks until completely solidified for a day. After we remove them from the files, they are separated from the polyethylene surface without extra effort. We attach correct form file or sandpaper, slightly turning the edges of the product.
  • We knead a new portion of the resin, and in the meantime lay out the dried flowers. We drip a little viscous mass onto the base and apply dried flowers, cover with a lid and let dry. To make the coating voluminous, like a lens, we cover it again with resin. We give the final shape with a file or sandpaper.
  • We drill a hole at the base with a needle and thread the fasteners. The product is ready.

  • wooden stick;
  • dry leaves or flowers.

Of the tools, simple toothpicks and scissors, as well as sandpaper for grouting, will come in handy.

DIY epoxy resin and wood bracelet

Let's get to work:

  • Wash and dry form. We knead the epoxy "dough" in the proportion indicated by the manufacturer. Stir the mass until the bubbles come to the surface.
  • Let's prepare a decorative filler. We cut the leaves so that they do not look out of the mold.
  • When the resin has thickened and settled, carefully pour it into the mold.

Filling must be done slowly, in a thin stream. The more accurately the substance is poured into the mold, the less polishing is required for the product.

  • Immediately lay the leaves in the resin in a circle, straightening them with a toothpick. In order for all air bubbles to come out of the resin, you can put the mold in the oven for 10 minutes, heated to 80 degrees, and then turned off.
  • After heating, we take out the workpiece, leave to harden.

When the decoration is frozen, remove it from the mold, grind the bumps and sharp edges with fine-grained sandpaper. To make the surface of the bracelet glossy, open it with acrylic varnish.

Epoxy Rainbow Earrings

Let's start the process:

  • Prepare a sketch of the decoration on paper. Distribute the areas where the resin should be, and where wooden decor, define color transitions.
  • We glue the pieces of acrylic, put the cuts of wood according to the sketch on the bottom, glue them to the base so that they do not float in the resin mass.
  • We mix the resin and hardener in the right ratio, add a fluorescent pigment of blue or green color to the mass. If you use a simple luminous pigment, the resin will simply acquire a milky hue. With colored pigments, the product looks brighter, more original.
  • Knead the resin, stirring with a stick strictly in a circle so that the bubbles come to the surface. We fill the workpiece.

The polymerization time depends on several factors: room temperature, correct mixing and the ratio of ingredients.

We cover the workpiece with a lid to avoid getting dust particles on the delicate surface.

  • After a day, if the workpiece is frozen, we disassemble the formwork and remove the block. It's time to give it the right shape.

We level the surface with a grinder, cut out the desired shape according to the sketch, process the edges of the product.

From one block, you can make several decorations at once in the same theme for yourself, as well as as a gift for relatives and friends.

Epoxy resin jewelry is always stylish and original. Each product combines natural fragility, tenderness and the unique creative thought of the master. Having learned all the secrets of unusual art, you can create with pleasure, creating collections of unusual designer accessories.

Epoxy and paint colored glass earrings

fruit rings

The slow but steady growth in the well-being of Russians has led to the fact that fewer and fewer people perceive suburban area only as a small personal "springboard" for endless battles for fruits and vegetables. But the idea of turning this place into a kind of natural oasis, where you want to spend the weekend, escaping from the realm of smog, concrete and cement, visits us more and more often.

Artificial acrylic stone has no pores, which makes it almost indispensable for finishing artificial reservoirs and ponds.

That is why the appearance of rock gardens and rockeries along with beds in our gardens no longer surprises anyone, and even Japanese tobiishi gardens, built with their own hands, are increasingly being registered on Russian soil. But creating this beauty is far from easy, because boulders and boulders must be not only significant in size, but also original in shape or color. And here modern technologies came to the aid of landscape designers, with the help of which various ones are created, and some of them can be done by hand.

Advantages of artificial decorative stone

The advantages of man-made stone are obvious. First of all, artificial decorative elements amaze with their rich assortment. you can easily find on sale, and even more so make with your own hands not only all kinds of cobblestones, boulders, pebbles or slates of the required configuration, but also imitating products made of marble, onyx or granite. Their price, of course, is quite affordable, and the appearance is far from bad.

Many products, especially those made on the basis of polymeric binders and without the use of cement, are much lighter than their natural counterparts, which allows them to be used for finishing works on the site without regard to the strength of the base to be decorated.

And the artificial acrylic stone, in addition to all other advantages, is also distinguished by its thermoplasticity, which allows it to be bent, if necessary, giving the desired shape.

Decorative stones: types and features

Making gypsum stone using a mold.

All used in landscape design artificial decorative stone can be divided into:

  1. Ceramic artificial stone. After molding, it requires firing in special furnaces. Due to the rather complex production technology and the need for expensive equipment, it is relatively expensive and not widely used.
  2. Cast gypsum or sand-cement. These types of stone, as the name suggests, are made from a mixture of cement, sand, gypsum and other fillers, as well as pigments. Due to low frost resistance, gypsum products are not suitable for outdoor placement. Boulders and cobblestones, as well as all kinds of garden small forms made of cement or concrete, both industrial or handicraft production, and handmade, on the contrary, are quite common. However, their appearance is often quite clumsy copies of natural beauty. natural stone. That's why garden sculptures cement is most often painted with paints and enamels intended for outdoor use.

Such "masterpieces" are quite unpretentious and easily endure all the hardships of being outdoors. Enthusiasts who want to make similar decorations for personal plot with your own hands, it should be noted that an ordinary mortar prepared from sand and cement is suitable only for the manufacture of products by filling in ready-made forms. Cast sculptures are quite massive and difficult to transport. If you would like to create garden figurines on the basis of a metal mesh frame, it will be necessary to make a special sculptural concrete with the addition of special plasticizer additives that give the mixture of sand and cement the necessary consistency. At home, PVA glue or liquid detergent can be used as plasticizers.

Acrylic artificial stone. It is made by introducing mineral fillers into an acrylic gel, followed by molding into special chamber under vacuum or casting method. The main difference that artificial acrylic stone is famous for is the absence of pores, which makes it almost indispensable for finishing artificial reservoirs and ponds. Acrylic stone is a talented imitator that allows you to reliably recreate not only marble stains or inclusions of mica in granite, but also the splendor of semi-precious ornamental stones: cat's eye, malachite or charoite.

A tabletop made of artificial stone with your own hands. It is strong and reliable, resistant to household chemicals, has a moisture resistant surface. Now the stores sell countertops made of natural and artificial stone at a high price. Self-made will cost much less and will be one of a kind.

What can a stone countertop be made of?

In stores, you can find the following countertop materials: acrylic resin sheet stone, sheets with a polyester base, liquid stone (ready-mix), resins and all components for self. In the composition of artificial stone, in addition to the binding element - resins, there are crumb fillers and mineral pigments.

Artificial stone made of acrylic resin withstands maximum temperature 180 °C. Such a countertop requires caution, you can not put it on hot dishes. Better to use it in the bathroom. Tabletop from polyester resins able to withstand 600 °C.

Attractive qualities of artificial stone

The material has good performance and decorative properties that allow it to be used for countertops:

  1. 1. High strength. Table-tops from an artificial stone are not afraid of blows. There are no traces of the knife when cutting products. The material is resistant to cracks, scratches and chips.
  2. 2. Eco-friendly and hygienic properties. Material without micropores, does not absorb moisture, microorganisms do not spread in its thickness. It does not leave traces of products, and all components are not dangerous in direct contact with food.
  3. 3. Suitability for repair. Surface damage is removed with minimal cost using simple technologies. This can be done by organizations providing similar services. If there is a proper tool, then this work is within the power of the owner.
  4. 4. Plasticity. Craftsmen heat up the material with an ordinary building hair dryer and give it the most intricate shape. The possibilities for design are endless, functionality and appearance can be easily adapted to the interior.

There are many pigments, which allows you to choose the most suitable color for the interior. Structure and color are distributed evenly over the entire surface. Countertops made of artificial stone are used in various rooms. Rich color shades allow you to successfully fit them into the room of any style and purpose. As well as artificial stone pleasantly warm to the touch.

From individual sheets create countertops large sizes. The parts are connected with special glue, the joints are polished, and the seams disappear. Improved appearance and improved hygiene hard-to-reach places missing. It is easy to clean such a countertop, thanks to smooth surface no scratches. You can use the usual detergents or clean without them. Strong chemical substances taking is not recommended.

Sheet material as a basis - an algorithm for creating a product

The presence of tools and skills will allow you to make a countertop yourself. You need a sheet of artificial stone. Its usual dimensions are 376 × 76 cm, thickness 3–12 mm. You will also need thick (30 mm) plywood. Using chipboard instead of it is undesirable: the material absorbs moisture, swells and can destroy the countertop. Two-component glue in a tube (150 ml) is also useful. It is better to buy sheets for thicker countertops. It is easier to work with them, the product is more durable.

You will need the following tools and fixtures:

  • grinder;
  • jigsaw;
  • Circular Saw;
  • milling cutter with carbide blades;
  • drill;
  • guide rail;
  • clamps.

We first take measurements. We write them down and draw a diagram. If planned stone countertop with a size of more than one wall module, all elements are set according to the level. Then, on a sheet of thick cardboard or whatman paper, we make a full-size drawing. We mark the holes for the sink, hob, taps. The paper is cut along the drawn lines, we got a table top layout.

The further process goes like this:

  1. 1. The layout is superimposed on the sheet, and the contours are applied to the surface. Don't just trace them, take a long ruler to make the lines even.
  2. 2. Using the guide rail, cut the sheet on the outside. Then saw cut by milling.
  3. 3. We drill holes in the corners of rectangular holes with a drill. With an electric jigsaw at low speeds, we cut out places under the sink, hob. Holes for taps are cut with a round cutter fixed in a drill.
  4. 4. An edge is cut out of the stone, its total length is equal to the outer perimeter. You also need an edge for the internal holes.
  5. 5. We turn the sheet inside out, with a cutter we make a groove under the edge. Its width is equal to the thickness of the edge, and in height after gluing it should be equal to the plywood frame.
  6. 6. We degrease the surfaces, apply glue. We install the edges in the grooves and press them with clamps. After drying, remove excess glue with a chisel.

In a rounded worktop, the edge is attached at one end to the worktop, heated with a building hair dryer to give desired shape and fix. After cooling, it is glued.

Strips 7 cm wide are cut from plywood. We attach them to the wrong side along the edges with silicone glue, if necessary, we reinforce the frame with transverse strips of plywood. Possible gaps between the edge and the frame are filled with silicone and leveled. To smooth the adhesive layers, after drying, we mill them. We also sand plywood, then paint it. The tabletop is turned upside down, the edge is rounded with a milling cutter, the surface is polished.

For an L-shaped two-piece tabletop, we align the ends, degrease and glue. Grinding of both parts is carried out simultaneously. The finished tabletop is installed in place. Wall plinths or sides 3–6 cm high are attached.

Composite materials - independent production of the workpiece

The countertop can be made from a ready-made mixture of liquid stone or you can prepare the mixture yourself. The finished mixture is used in strict compliance with the manufacturer's instructions. To get the liquid stone yourself, we buy the necessary components: resin, filler, hardener, pigment dye. The mixture should not be runny, but thick enough. Pour the filler granules into the container, fill it with resin, mix everything thoroughly with a mixer. Add the dye for the desired color and introduce the hardener. Mix everything for 5 seconds. The hardener is added to the mixture immediately before use.

It is necessary to make a blank for the matrix. used Chipboard thickness 16mm:

  • on chipboard we draw lines according to the dimensions of the product, taking into account the sink and other holes;
  • strictly along the line with an electric jigsaw we cut out the workpiece and grind it;
  • apply to another chipboard sheet, with a small allowance, we trace the contours, then we cut it out with a jigsaw;
  • we fix both sheets with clamps, mill, grind the ends and the surface;
  • then the blanks are degreased, glued and fastened with self-tapping screws;
  • after the polymerization of the glue, the solid workpiece is again milled and ground.

We install the workpiece on a flat surface (check with a level) and glue the sides of chipboard or thin plywood, which protrude above the surface to the desired thickness of the countertop. Next, we prepare the form to make a stone with our own hands. We apply plasticine along the sides, give it the desired shape using templates. The quality of the ends of the product depends on how carefully this operation is performed. Then on inner surface apply an anti-adhesive.

Liquid stone countertop - spraying or casting?

Do-it-yourself liquid stone countertop can be made using one of the options: spraying or casting. Many craftsmen offer their own version, which differs in details, but not in essence. Spraying significantly reduces costs compared to the casting method. When casting, the product has a thickness of several centimeters, and by spraying, tabletops a few millimeters thick are created. The mixture for spraying is prepared in the following ratio: 60% resin, 39% filler and 1% hardener.

The spraying method has two options, but each is based on the principle of spraying a thin layer of liquid stone onto a regular surface. The first option is called the direct spraying method. Finishing is done right on the spot, for example, the countertop is covered with liquid stone without removing it from the table. The furniture element is cleaned, degreased, coated with a primer. After the primer has dried, one or more layers of the mixture are applied with a sprayer. The finished surface is ground and polished. To apply the spraying method, you need a pneumatic atomizer and a compressor with a working pressure of 6–7 atmospheres.

The second method called "reverse" takes more time. The process goes like this: we spray a liquid stone on the surface of the matrix with a pistol; after half an hour we apply a primer so that the base does not shine through; fill the mixture with a thin layer, lay out a similar blank on top and press it with a load; remove the load and pour the resin over the workpiece again. In the second blank, we make holes for the release of excess resin. After complete polymerization, we grind the product if necessary.

Preparing a mold with the injection method is no different from spraying. At the first stage of casting, two options are possible: the entire solution is immediately poured, or the surface is first treated with a layer of gelcoat. This is a material based on polymer resins, which has increased strength, resistance to ultraviolet radiation. Then the solution is poured: about 20% resin, 78% filler and 1-2% hardener. As a filler, granite, marble is used - crumb or larger fractions.

Making an artificial stone countertop with your own hands theoretically seems simple. In fact, in the work there are situations that can be overcome with some experience.
