From a gas cylinder with their own. From the pros: do-it-yourself brazier from a gas cylinder. How to properly open and flush a propane tank

Today, a popular brazier for cooking barbecue can be bought without problems, but it’s much nicer to show off a homemade one. original version. Suitable for manufacturing different materials, but the easiest way is to make a barbecue from a gas cylinder, both old, Soviet and modern.

Preparatory stage

Before starting work on the manufacture of the brazier, it is necessary to determine the size of the propane cylinder that will be used for our design. In most cases, a 50-liter container is taken for this purpose. Sometimes you can find a 27-liter. This is also convenient, but the volume of firewood and the place for barbecue will be almost 2 times less. You can also find an 80-liter bottle, the size of which will allow you to cook a large number of meat at the same time.

You need to determine the purpose of your design. And they are different:

  • brazier without cover;
  • barbecue (with lid);
  • smokehouse;
  • brazier-smoker.
First you need to decide what the brazier will be for.

For the manufacture of the last two, several gas cylinders will be required.

Before using the cylinder, it is important to properly prepare it, and for this it is necessary to remember safety precautions.

  1. First of all, release the remaining gas through the valve.
  2. Turn the cylinder upside down without closing it. Make sure that all gas and condensate has escaped. Use soapy water to check.
  3. Unscrew the valve or cut it off. When making a cut, it is important to periodically cool the saw cut.
  4. Fill the canister with water several times to flush out any remaining condensate.
  5. Dry and clean the inside.

After completing all these activities, you can proceed to the next stage.

In this video you will learn how to make a brazier from a balloon:

Drawing and markup

In the manufacture simple brazier or BBQ there is no need for precise drawings. A simple sketch will suffice. It is important to clearly mark the cut lines on the cylinder. If you are a small gourmet, then it will be enough to mark the longitudinal lines on one and the other half of the balloon so as to divide it in half lengthwise. And if you prefer to steam the meat longer over the coals, then the cut for the lid should be smaller, and the body should be larger.

Marking for end cuts must be done at a distance of at least 3 cm from the old welds that fastened the cover and bottom of the cylinder. And at least one of the markings for the longitudinal lines must coincide with the seam of the cylinder. A hole for the chimney can be drawn and made in the place where the valve was.

Step-by-step instruction

To make a brazier, you will need the following tools:

  • grinder with cutting discs for metal;
  • welding machine with electrodes;
  • electric drill with drills and brush;
  • ruler, marking tool;
  • clamps for fixing the parts to be welded;
  • set of wrenches and plumbing wrenches.

After preparing the tool, we can proceed to creative work. Let's take a 50-liter propane tank as a starting point.

  1. With the help of a grinder, passing along the contour of the future cover, we will perform longitudinal and transverse cuts. The tool must be carried out evenly and smoothly. Any curvature of the cut lines in the future can spoil the appearance of our design.
  2. Cut out a hole for the chimney with a welding machine. It should have a diameter slightly smaller than the pipe that will become the chimney.
  3. In order to avoid deformation of the cylinder from high temperatures, it is desirable to strengthen the internal cavity with several corners along the entire length of the body.
  4. Let's turn the resulting body cavity under the cover down. To ensure traction, we will perform longitudinal cuts in a checkerboard pattern or drill holes with a diameter of 10-12 mm. Cut cavities can reduce the strength of our brazier. Therefore, traction is often performed in the form of holes. To improve the ventilation of the lower part of our body, cast-iron grates can be installed at the bottom.

The body of our barbecue is ready. Now we can start making other elements of the barbecue.

We follow the instructions for creating such a barbecue

Lid

The design of the lid is quite simple: it must have a pair of hinges and one or more handles. It is that part of the cylinder that we cut out of the body that will be our cover. Welding the hinges after we cut out the body of the cover will be very inconvenient. You will need an assistant and a complex mechanism for fixing it in its original position. Therefore, when making cuts on the body, we will weld the hinges of the cover to our design.

It is important to first make a share cut, and then weld loops over it. At the same moment, you can weld or screw the finished handles of the future cover. It is better to use hinges that can be riveted first and then welded on.

In the manufacture of the cover, it is necessary to take into account the possibility of fixing it in various positions. This moment is especially important when using a shish kebab as a grill. The most reliable way is to use a chain. It is welded to the edge of the lid. To fix it in the desired position, a hook is made on a stand, and the other end of the chain is hooked to it. A corner or other profile is welded between the hinges, which will serve as a stop and prevent the lid from tipping over.

legs

To make a stand for our barbecue, you need to use a metal profile. There are several options for making legs.

  1. Let's weld on the sides of our body four vertical racks from a rigid profile, for example, a square pipe. We will determine the height of the structure ourselves for ease of use. We weld square plates to the lower ends of the legs, which will not allow the structure to fall into the ground.
  2. Using metal strips, we will make two half rings. Their inner diameter must correspond to the outer diameter of the housing. We will weld the racks of our support to the edges of the half-rings and fasten each pair with crossbars made of the same material, or a corner. We will weld the resulting pairs in the upper and lower parts, using a rigid light profile. Get separate support for our barbecue.

Both of these designs have sufficient rigidity. They differ in that the first option is suitable for those cases when the brazier does not move anywhere, and the second will allow our barbecue maker to be mobile. Some craftsmen place an axle with wheels under one of the supports. This allows the brazier to be non-separable and mobile at the same time.

Chimney

Most gas cylinder braziers have a hole for the chimney in the place where the valve was located. In some makeshift designs the smoke exhaust pipe is welded to the top of the brazier. Such a brazier will have great traction, which is not always appropriate for a barbecue or smokehouse.

For the manufacture of the chimney, we use steel water pipe and an elbow with a diameter of 70 to 150 mm. First, we weld the outlet to the end part of our body. It is important that it is directed strictly upwards, perpendicular to the plane in which it will be installed. We weld the pipe to the outlet and check its verticality.

After making all the elements of the brazier, they must be painted. It is important that the paint for such a design has heat-resistant properties. The number of layers and the need to use primers must be clarified when buying paint.

Don't forget to make a chimney

Decoration

A small but functional decoration of our brazier will be the manufacture of holes for skewers. For greater convenience, holes of 12-18 mm are made under the hinges of the lid. And in front of the case - opposite these holes - make rectangular or triangular cutouts. This allows you to evenly scroll the skewers and cook the meat with high quality.

A more attractive design of the brazier will be the use of forged elements in the support structure. The rack for the case can be borrowed from the old sewing machine. This will give originality to the brazier. One of interesting solutions decorations for smokehouses and barbecues - in the form of a steam locomotive.

From this video you will learn how to make a reliable barbecue grill from a gas cylinder step by step:

Smokehouse version

With a strong desire, the brazier from a gas cylinder can be converted into a smokehouse. In this case, the body of our design will be used as a smokehouse. And the firebox will need to be welded in front of the body. This will require a smaller tank. The axis of the firebox must match or be below the bottom of the existing base. To connect the firebox with the smokehouse, it will be necessary to cut the same holes, offset from the center. At the firebox - above the axis, and at the former base of the barbecue - below the axis. At the bottom of the body of the oil lamp, it will be necessary to make a valve to drain the fat. And it is desirable to install a thermometer in the lid.

Now you can cook your favorite dishes and enjoy the gastronomic possibilities of your new equipment.

A good and reliable brazier can be made with your own hands, even from the most unusual items household, and one of them is a simple gas cylinder. He can not only become indispensable assistant in your country house, but it will also save you a lot of money on purchasing an expensive brazier of the same parameters in the store. And if you try hard and turn on your imagination, then it will also become an adornment of the backyard.

Features of a brazier made on the basis of a gas cylinder: advantages and disadvantages

Today, barbecues from gas cylinders are very popular and this is quite understandable. Such devices are quite large and roomy, so you can install a large number of skewers for a large company at once. Their legs are much higher than the store ones. standard products, and this allows a person to stand straight, without bending while cooking kebabs. Also, if desired, from a cylinder using welding, fittings and metal, you can create various interesting shapes that suit the exterior of your home.

Advantages of a brazier from a cylinder:

  • Ease of manufacture. Even a non-professional can easily make such a design in a few hours if there is detailed instructions and visual image.
  • Cheap construction. If in the country there is a used or unsuitable gas cylinder, then the basis of the brazier will be free for you. The maximum that you have to spend money on is additional structural elements.
  • Thanks to the thick walls of the cylinder, such a brazier can withstand even the highest temperatures and great pressure, due to which its service life is significantly increased.
  • In the presence of flip cover the brazier can be left on the street, without fear of precipitation. Also, a lid is needed in order to be able to use it as a home smokehouse.
  • Functionality. If necessary, using additional elements design can be improved.
  • Mobility. The brazier can be transferred from one place to another or transported by car.
  • Ease of use. Since the bottom of such a brazier does not burn out due to the thick walls, after cooking kebabs or other dishes, the coals do not need to be filled with water. You can just close the lid and that's it.

Mangal Disadvantages:

  • Too large-sized design, which may not fit into the overall interior of the yard.
  • Such a brazier is quite heavy, so one person will not be able to move it without outside help.
  • Only coal can be used as a raw material, since there is very little space for logs in it, or you have to wait until the firewood is completely burned out, and then it will be possible to lay the skewers.

Preparing for production: drawings and optimal dimensions

Before starting work on the manufacture of the brazier, it is necessary to completely release all the gas that always remains in the cylinder even when it is completely “empty”.

Since there may be condensate inside the cylinder, you must first open the valve and release the gas to the end. This should only be done on outdoors(outdoors) away from potential sources of fire and other factors that could spark and ignite residual gas. In order to make sure that the gas is escaping, you can use a soapy solution, which must be soaked in the outlet on the valve. If the soapy water bubbles strongly, then this means that the gas is escaping.

After you see that the cylinder is empty, it must be turned over and all condensate poured out, and then filled with water to the brim and left for two or three days to remove the smell of gas. To fill the water with a cylinder, a conventional garden hose, and water enters it under with great pressure. Then it will be safe to work with the workpiece.

The first stage of work is to create a drawing of the future brazier, in which all dimensions, elements and design features will be indicated.

Balloon dimensions:

  • Height - 98 cm.
  • Diameter - 30 cm.
  • Wall thickness - 0.3 cm.
  • Weight - 22 kg.
  1. Since the diameter of the balloon is 96 cm, it can be easily divided into 4 parts, starting from the longitudinal seam to ensure uniformity.

    We mark the balloon with chalk

  2. From the seam it is necessary to retreat 24 cm and mark two lines. Then put the balloon horizontally, and make marks for placing the skewers.
  3. It is necessary to step back from the transverse circular seams (lower and upper) by about 3 cm and mark the cut line.

    Marking the gas cylinder for the lid device

  4. Then, from the first and second lines, it is necessary to mark 10 cm each in order to then be able to attach the legs exactly parallel to each other.
  5. The borders of the lid will be our first two marked lines from the longitudinal seam (24 cm each).

    Cutting lines for the cover of the future barbecue

  6. If metal rings are welded inside the cylinder, then it is necessary to make a cut so that they are not damaged, since in the future they will serve as a support for the lid.

Choice of gas bottle

In order for the brazier to turn out good, you need to find a suitable balloon. If at your dacha or in a country house there used to be gas stove, which worked from such a cylinder, then you probably have a few pieces left. You can look for a cylinder at scrap metal collection points, where they will sell it to you at the price of scrap, or dig around the world wide web.

Usually use a large cylinder, with a volume of 50 liters. The main thing is that it is not rusty and does not have large holes in the body.

Tools needed for the job

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare all the necessary tools and additional elements so as not to be distracted at the most crucial moment in search of, for example, a hammer, chisel or drill. To work, we need a set of such tools:

  • Welding machine;
  • Angle grinder (Bulgarian);
  • Protective glasses;
  • Gloves;
  • Metal door hinges (3 or 4 pieces);
  • Rivets (one set) and rivet gun;
  • Hammer;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Chisel;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • Drill and drill for metal with a diameter of 10–12 mm;
  • Metal pipe for the chimney;
  • Pipes or long iron corners for legs (you can use ready-made mechanisms from old foot sewing machines);
  • Four squares for platforms under the legs - approximately 10x10 cm.

DIY step-by-step instructions

  1. Sawing. This is the most crucial stage, since the appearance of the future brazier and its performance characteristics depend on its quality. With the help of a grinder, it is necessary to make cuts strictly along the marked lines. First, you should completely unscrew the valve with an adjustable wrench or cut it off with a grinder, pouring water over it to prevent accidental ignition of gas residues from a spark.
  2. Welding of a cover and handles. The lid is best fastened with hinges, which are first fixed with rivets and then welded to the lid and the base of the brazier. If the hinges are not welded, then in the future, under the influence of high temperatures, they will simply bounce off and the lid will fall off. On the sides, to move the product, handles can be welded from reinforcement, previously bent with a blowtorch or welding. If desired, metal ready-made handles can be purchased at the store and then simply bolted into specially drilled holes. Who will be comfortable.
  3. Leg welding. We cut pipes or corners into four parts 50–70 cm long and weld them to the marked lines at the bottom of the cylinder at the same distance from each other so that they form a regular rectangle. We also recommend welding square metal plates to the ends of the legs, which will prevent the legs from sinking into soft ground under the own weight of a heavy brazier. You can use just two metal profiles, which are also welded at the bottom parallel to two legs at once.
  4. The second version of the legs. Two strips 0.2 cm wide and 0.4 cm long must be cut out of a sheet of metal. Then we bend these “ribbons” in the form of an arc along the diameter of the balloon and weld the legs to their ends. At the bottom of each pair of legs we weld cross bar from a profile to create rigidity and strength of the structure.
  5. We weld a corner between two racks (the length should be no more than a balloon).
  6. If you use a design from a sewing machine as legs, then here you can even install two wheels on it so that the brazier can simply be rolled around the yard.
  7. In order for the walls of the cylinder not to deform under the influence of high temperatures, it is necessary to weld two corners with walls of 30x30 mm inside it along the entire length. It will also give additional rigidity and reliability of the structure.
  8. Since the combustion process requires constant inflow oxygen, about ten or fifteen large holes with a diameter of up to 16 mm should be drilled in the back of the product. They can be done in one row or staggered. At the same time, we make cuts for installing skewers with a grinder.
  9. At the end of the cylinder, where the valve used to be, remains round hole in which we install the chimney pipe. To do this, you can use a regular drainpipe.
  10. At the bottom of the brazier we lay several grates made of cast iron of a suitable size, which are usually used in stoves - potbelly stoves or boilers for air supply. This will help create an additional ventilation system during the burning of coals, and red-hot grates will help the cooking process even without the addition of coals.

How to make with a smokehouse

If you try hard and make some effort, then your barbecue can turn into a home smokehouse. The main condition for any smokehouse is complete tightness.

It is made in the same way as a brazier, but only a firebox is added to it, which is made from an iron sheet or a small gas cylinder. To do this, part of the bottom of the brazier is cut down and a firebox is welded to it.

The chimney is the main element of the smokehouse. You can make it yourself or buy a special pipe in the store.

It will be possible to start the smoking process after you have completely ignited the brazier and the firebox with firewood so that the smell of methane gas completely disappears and does not soak the meat or fish during smoking.

Coloring the resulting structure

Choosing the type of paint

For coloring the brazier from a balloon, it is best to use heat-resistant paints, since Maximum temperature it can reach over 700 degrees. To do this, carefully read the instructions.

Paints should protect the metal from the manifestation of rust, as well as from temperature changes when water gets on its hot surface.

When heated, the paint should not emit substances harmful to the human body and should not enter into chemical reaction with other substances.

Painting stages

  1. Before painting, the surface of the balloon should be cleaned of old paint using a drill and a special metal nozzle or sandpaper.
  2. Then degrease the entire surface with alcohol, acetone or solvent.
  3. The paint must be mixed well before application until a uniform consistency is obtained and possible precipitation and clots are removed. If the paint is too thick, then you can dilute it with a small amount of thinner.
  4. You can apply the paint with a brush or roller in several layers, until you get a beautiful and smooth surface. Each layer should dry from half an hour to two hours, depending on the type of paint.

When painting the brazier on the street, the air temperature should not be lower than 20 degrees and higher than 40, since when sub-zero temperatures the paint will begin to freeze, and if it is too high, it will dry instantly.

Acrylic heat-resistant paints are the most popular today and they are produced in aerosol cans. Due to their unique composition, they are considered the safest, fastest-drying, effective and durable. They also have anti-corrosion properties.

The paint must not be sprayed near open flames and a respirator must be worn during work to protect the respiratory system. The nuances of using the received product

  • Even if the surface of the brazier is covered with anti-corrosion paints, we do not recommend subjecting it to additional tests and leaving it outside under the open sky. It is best to put it under a canopy in summer and spring, and put it in a garage or in an outbuilding in autumn and winter.
  • If, after you have done all the necessary measures to eliminate the smell from the cylinder, it still remains, then you just need to fire the inside of the barbecue several times and the smell will disappear forever.
  • To prevent sparks from the frypot and a fire, operate the product at a safe distance from flammable objects. Also, after the end of the cooking process, you should not pour out the ashes, as it can smolder for about two more days and cause a fire.
  • If necessary, the brazier can be used as a barbecue if you install a regular metal grill from the refrigerator.
  • The grill cover not only protects inner surface products from atmospheric precipitation, but is also the main part when turning a brazier into a smokehouse.

The brazier, which is made of a gas cylinder, can also serve as a smokehouse and a barbecue. If meat is simply fried on a conventional standard roaster, then in this case it is also baked due to the special design of the product. Even when using a small amount of coal, the walls of the brazier will warm up well and the meat will be completely fried.

The brazier from a cylinder will serve you for many years, provided it is correct operation and with proper care. This is a wonderful multifunctional design that allows you not only to fry kebabs, but also to make wonderful homemade smoked meats. And if you approached the manufacture of such a product seriously and thoroughly, then in the future the brazier will delight you and your family with “your” kebabs and smoked goodies.

Brazier - a very popular design, and instead of a simple metal box on the legs, craftsmen make real works of art. They often take the most junk material for them - old industrial pipes, fireproof safes, car receivers. Most affordable option- build a brazier from a gas cylinder, which can be found in your own barn or at the nearest scrap metal collection point. Are there any drawbacks to such a solution, and how can it be implemented?

Pros and cons of using an old propane tank

Choosing the material for the grill is very simple. It is better to take a 50-liter cylinder: its diameter is 30 cm and its length is 85 cm, which can be called optimal dimensions for the mangal. Of course, 40-liter containers are also suitable, but they have less coverage, which means that their operation will not be so convenient.

Homemade brazier decor with wrought iron elements

Brazier from a cylinder of 50 liters

The undoubted advantage of a case made of such a base is the quality of the metal. Cylinders intended for the storage of gas under pressure are subject to serious requirements, and the wall thickness of their body is at least 3 mm. Therefore, for little money you get a brazier that differs:

  • durability - thanks to thick steel grade 45, D or 30 HGSA, the structure does not burn through and does not corrode through for 10–15 years;
  • mobility - the brazier, even if it is not equipped with wheels, can be placed in any corner of the yard and deployed depending on the direction of the wind;
  • versatility - in such a smoker under an open or closed lid, you can fry, smoke and bake absolutely any product;
  • ease of use - after cooking, you do not need to fill the fire, and later sweep the ashes around the yard, just turn off the draft and calmly go to the table.

In fairness, it is worth mentioning the shortcomings. So, if you decide to fry meat in winter, you will have to stock up on a larger supply of firewood or coal than in summer, because due to the low heat capacity, the metal cools quickly, and the brazier becomes much more voracious. At the same time in the manga cylindrical shape it is rather difficult to achieve uniform heating of the same kebab: in the center it already starts to burn, and remains raw along the edges.

Heat-resistant paints should be applied in 2-3 layers

Due to the high cost of high-quality heat-resistant paints, your building will most likely look like in a faded photo - the brazier from a gas cylinder on the outside burns very quickly and loses its appearance.

And finally, the last thing: even a cylinder that has been decommissioned for a long time may contain remnants of an explosive substance, and it is dangerous for health and life to carry out any work with it without taking precautions!

How to cut a balloon - safety precautions

A mixture of liquid hydrocarbons, collectively known as gasoline, almost always remains in a metal container. If this substance is not eliminated, the liquid will instantly turn into a gaseous state, and the cylinder may explode. In this regard, before you start cutting the gas cylinder for the barbecue, you need to displace the gas, remove the gasoline and stop the flow of oxygen to the cutting zone with inside balloon.

You can do it this way:

  1. Using an open-end wrench and shock load, unscrew the valve, thereby allowing the rest of the propane to escape.
  2. Fill the container to the top with water (possibly soapy) and leave it for several days - during this time the water will have time to dissolve liquid hydrocarbons.
  3. Drain the liquid, refill the cylinder with water, close the hole with any sealant and cut the tank according to the markup.

Store the opened container in a well-ventilated area or outdoors, away from children and sources of ignition.

Not everyone succeeds in unscrewing the valve, since in a few years it sticks tightly to the cylinder. You can try to knock it out with a sledgehammer, but often this does not help either. There is a simpler (albeit requiring patience) way to fill the container with water: unscrew only the crane box, under which there is a hole with a diameter of up to 8 mm. Through it, using a dropper, you can pour liquid into the tank, after which you can take on the grinder.

Cutting an old cylinder with a grinder

In the process of cutting the vessel, water will pour out - continue to work as with ordinary metal. All work is recommended to be carried out in an open area away from residential buildings, since the smell of gasoline is not pleasant and it lasts for several days. For the same reason, you should wear a respirator with gas protection. The resulting parts are calcined properly on a fire to clean the internal cavities from dirt. After that, start assembling.

Installation of braziers of a simple and complicated design

An elementary model is a brazier from one half of the cylinder, mounted on a support made of any material at hand - several bricks, stones, or even just an earthen mound. The manufacturing time of such a device is minimal, but it is not very convenient to use it, and there is nothing to brag about to friends. Therefore, if you have a minimum of welding skills, you can try to build a brazier from a cylinder with your own hands in a more interesting design.

Brazier in a hurry

BBQ Roaster or Brazier with Lid

You can add functionality to a homemade brazier if you use the other half of the balloon as a lid. It would not be superfluous to improve the air supply to the stove, since the wind, which creates a natural but uneven draft, thereby adds a lot of trouble to the barbecue man.

The algorithm of work will look like this:

  1. Mark out the gas container, leaving the side walls higher so that the wind does not inflate the coals when frying.

  1. Using a grinder or electric jigsaw, make a horizontal cut on a cylinder prepared in advance according to safety precautions (see above).
  2. Immediately weld two hinges, then cut the cover completely.
  3. Fill the balloon with wood chips and fire (you can use blowtorch).
  4. So that the metal does not lead, weld a 32x32 corner around the perimeter of the cut from the inside - in the future it can serve as a support for the grill and skewers.
  5. For the same purpose, pull off the cover with wire and weld two metal strips on the sides or one in the center.

Strengthening the body and lid

  1. From a profile pipe measuring 15 mm (4 m), any available corner (0.5 m) and a steel strip (1 m), weld a support for a barbecue from a gas cylinder.
  2. For convenient fixation of the lid in the open state, weld a limiter between the hinges - a strip of steel, slightly bent away from the barbecue.

  1. On the one hand, drill holes for the skewers with a 11 mm drill, on the other hand, make cuts to fix the skewers (make sure that the holes and cuts are on the same line).
  2. In the lower part of the body with an 8 mm drill, make holes to create traction.

Cylinder bed

  1. Weld a handle to open it and transport handles to the lid from the side that is convenient for you.

  1. Put the brazier on the bed, cover all metal elements with a primer and paint them with heat-resistant paint.

If desired, the design can be finalized: organize shelves, build a canopy, weld an exhaust pipe to create ideal traction.

For lovers of smoked meats - a brazier-smokehouse from two cylinders

Having got the hang of it with one cylinder, you can make a 2 in 1 brazier, in which you can not only fry, but also smoke any food. For work you will need:

  • 2 cylinders with a volume of 50 and 27 liters;
  • metal corners or reinforcing bars for the bed (legs from an old sewing machine will do);
  • welding machine and electrodes (it is recommended to stock up on a “chameleon” mask);
  • pipe elbow, as well as a piece of pipe with a diameter of 100–150 mm and a height of 1 m.

Using the above technology, remove propane and gasoline residues from the tanks. Even before you start making a brazier from gas cylinders, clean them of rust and dirt. Cut each balloon and arrange it like a simple barbecue grill. The difference in their design is that a container with a smaller volume (it will serve as a gas generator) at the top of the body has a hole for connection to a 50-liter cylinder (i.e. a hot-smoking chamber).

circuit diagram smokehouse devices

In addition, a smoke divider made from a corner with drilled holes. To control the draft, the gas generator is provided with a blower and an exhaust pipe with dampers. To prevent burning, a grate should be placed at the bottom of the smaller cylinder.

Blower device with sliding damper

To implement this design, follow a series of steps:

  1. At the bottom of the gas generator cylinder, cut a square hole for the blower.
  2. On the other hand, equip the screen with a latch (its implementation is shown in the photo).
  3. Lay a smoke-cutting corner on the bottom of the smokehouse chamber, and weld the corners for the grate on the sides.
  4. At the top of the large cylinder, cut a hole to fit the chimney.
  5. Cut out the side segments of both cylinders: the larger one at the bottom, the smaller one at the top (the segments must be the same size - this is important).
  6. Dock both tanks with cutouts and seal the joint hermetically.
  7. Weld the hood and complete it with a damper.

After that, you just have to put the device on the frame, level it and tightly grab it with a weld.

Useful life hacks from experienced craftsmen

Having tested the constructed devices, their authors share own experience regarding how to make a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands as efficient as possible. Agree, it’s a sin not to use the advice, the benefits of which have already been put into practice:

  • In order for heat to spread evenly and there were no leaks, steel strip linings must be welded to the joints of the cover and body.
  • The bottom of the brazier or smokehouse can be reinforced with a welded structure of reinforcing bars, while it is important that a distance of 14–18 cm remains from the coals to the meat being cooked.
  • Temperature - important factor when smoking, so the working compartments of the smokehouse should be equipped with a thermometer.
  • Fat falling on the coals gives an unpleasant bitterness in the taste of the dish - to prevent this, it is recommended to always put a tray under the food.
  • You can buy a barbecue grill, or you can make it yourself, for example, from two shelves of an old refrigerator, welded crosswise.
  • The chambers must be regularly cleaned with a metal stick, pulling the coals from the far chamber into the near compartment, and from it - through the blower - into the bucket.
  • A brazier from a gas cylinder, especially a double one, turns out to be heavy, so it is better to mount a pair of wheels in advance.

And finally, many advise immediately, without leaving the cash register, to add another chamber - for cold smoking. To make a compartment with this function, you will need another 50-liter cylinder, just place it not horizontally, but vertically. The procedure for arranging the third chamber is similar to the previous technology, and the embedding of the chimney in this case is much easier.

To construct a solid barbecue from gas cylinders, as in the photo, may not be as simple as it seems at first glance. However, the result is worth it: a purchased model with similar capabilities (often made of thin-walled metal) today costs at least 15,000 rubles, and you will receive it for your own use at the price of metal.

Going out into nature with a large company involves cooking barbecue and other dishes, for this it is enough to find an acceptable place. At the dacha or country terrace you can not do without a barbecue, a tool that provides the opportunity to cook delicious barbecue or meat alone. If create beautiful barbecue, it will fit into any interior of the site and give uniqueness. Making a brazier is possible with your own hands, using improvised means, such as a gas cylinder or a pipe.

Types of barbecues

Charcoal cooking is possible in many ways. Brazier has proven itself on the positive side, has a number of advantages and is divided into several categories.

  1. Portable structures are used for frequent movement. Advantages include low weight and simple design, as well as the availability of ready-made options on the market. The functionality of such braziers is modest; additional devices will be needed to prepare dishes that differ from kebabs.
  2. Portable barbecues have more solid construction, this category includes a brazier from a gas cylinder. The design can be moved inside the site or in a car trailer, has better functionality, is quite simply made by hand from improvised materials.
  3. Stationary braziers are installed in the foundation, have a solid structure and a lot of weight. The main features are the design of the structure, which, with a creative approach, can decorate a summer cottage.

In more detail it is worth considering the brazier from the cylinder, because. this device has all the functionality of a stationary one, it is mobile. Thus, a do-it-yourself barbecue from a gas cylinder can save the owner financial resources, because store models with similar parameters are not cheap. The design can vary in size, regardless of the cylinder used, which makes it possible to accommodate a large number of dishes for cooking with a large company. The height can be adjusted by welding on the legs, which makes the process of frying kebabs convenient and ergonomic. Also, with the help of improvised tools, it is possible to make decorative look, which will give uniqueness, add beauty to the summer cottage.

Preparation for manufacturing drawings and optimal dimensions

Before cutting the prepared cylinder, you need to remember safety precautions. Sedimentary vapors always remain in gas cylinders, which, when interacting with a spark or welding, can lead to unpleasant consequences.

The manufacture of a brazier from a gas cylinder begins with the emptying of the container, for this the main valve is unscrewed, the gas is vented. The procedure is performed with extreme caution, in a well-ventilated area, away from sources of fire or direct sunlight. It is possible to visually verify that the cylinder is empty using soap solution, it is enough to apply it to the outlet nozzle, observe the formation of bubbles. If gas escapes, accordingly, soapy water begins to bubble, after which it is necessary to unscrew the valve with a wrench, completely remove it from the cylinder.

After bleeding off the gas, it is necessary to turn the gas container over, drain all the condensate. After that, water is supplied under high pressure, which will displace the residual vapors and remove the condensate completely. Drainage of water must be carried out far from residential premises, the properties of the gas are such that a fire can occur at a low concentration. Compliance with the sequence of all procedures makes the work safe for humans.

To make a brazier with your own hands, you need to use the drawings. The dimensions are selected in accordance with the volume and shape of the cylinder, with standard equipment the height is 98 cm, the diameter is 30 cm. The wall thickness of the gas container is standard, but may differ from the direct purpose of the cylinder, it is 0.3 cm, the weight of the cylinder is 22 kg.

Cylinder marking

Before making a brazier from a gas cylinder, it is necessary to mark it according to the required parameters. To mark, ordinary chalk is used, the process is as follows:

  • A certain diameter is 96 cm, it is easily divided into equal parts. For uniformity, markings are made along the longitudinal seam.
  • Marks for placing skewers are set in a horizontal position, 24 cm in each direction recede from the seam.
  • The device of the cover is carried out according to the deviation of 3 cm from the seam.
  • 10 cm deviate from the two lines obtained, this is done for parallel fastening of the legs in the future.
  • The cut lines under the cover act as borders, which are applied at the first stage (24 cm of indent).
  • If there are inner rings in the design of the cylinder, it is necessary to work carefully so as not to damage them. In the future, they will play the role of a lid holder.

Layout and dimensions of the future brazier in the drawing

Work on the manufacture of barbecue does not require special drawings. It is necessary to mark the parameters of the future barbecue based on the size of the balloon. A specific barbecue scheme from gas cylinders is not required, it all depends on the functional accessory, the size of the device. The height of the cut and cover is regulated by the combustible means used. If ready-made coals are used, it is possible to cut the cylinder in half; in case of burning firewood, the lid should be higher so that the blanks do not fall out.

Choice of gas bottle

Used for gas grill suitable material including the balloon. You can find the appropriate barbecue cylinder in the country if propane was used gas-burner, at scrap metal collection points or private ads. gas grill It is standardly made from a cylinder with a capacity of 50 liters. The main selection criteria is the whole body without rust and oxides, in order to prevent further destruction of the finished product.

Tools needed for the job

For quick work, you need to prepare the appropriate tool. Need a set of tools home master, as well as a few additional things:

  • grinder or grinder;
  • welding machine of any type;
  • personal protective equipment, glasses, gloves;
  • metal door hinges in quantities from 3 to 5 pieces;
  • rivet gun, rivets;
  • chisel, hammer;
  • screwdriver, wrench;
  • drill with a set of drills (a drill of 10-12 mm is required);
  • pipes for the chimney and legs, the latter are used materials from unused sewing machines.

The use of tools requires certain skills, the material of gas containers is quite thick, not every novice master will be able to competently cut, weld metal.

How to properly open a propane tank

Safe work is achieved through well-executed preparatory work. The washed cylinder must be cut into two halves with a grinder, the process is carried out as close as possible to the weld. Side walls are not dismantled, their purpose is to protect the fire from the wind, maintain temperature indicators. support rings do not cut, their task is to keep the lid closed.

How to paint

From an aesthetic point of view, it is necessary to paint the balloon. The process is the choice of each individual, it is not at all necessary to spend time and effort on it. To paint the brazier from a gas cylinder, you should use high-quality components that do not decompose under the influence of high temperatures, without changing taste qualities food.

Before painting, a primer layer is applied, which is selected on the market in accordance with the type of paint. Before purchasing, you should study the purpose and instructions, the temperature of the paint should be more than 600 degrees. As a rule, these materials are environmentally friendly, so it is possible to paint the building not only from the outside.

We make a brazier from a metal cylinder

For country use, an ordinary barbecue is often not enough. It is possible to make a barbecue with your own hands from a gas cylinder. To do this, you must follow the step-by-step instructions, in which case you will get a beautiful, high-quality product.

  1. The hinges for attaching the lid to the body can be welded on before cutting, so that they are installed evenly, without distortions in relation to the top. The cover is fastened to the body with a metal bar.
  2. The limiter must be installed on the back of the brazier to prevent the lid from completely lowering. So it will be convenient to close and open the device during use.
  3. Blower holes can be drilled, but it will be much faster to cut them with a grinding tool. Vertical slots are made along the entire length, holes for attaching skewers are drilled with a drill with the required distance.

Barbecue legs can be made independently different ways, it is also possible to use a ready-made stand from the old sewing machine. The frying process in accelerated mode implies a closed lid; a pipe must be mounted to remove smoke. A balloon barbecue is made by adding corners to the structure in the inner part, for attaching a mesh or metal bars.

Brazier steam locomotive

The design, called a steam locomotive, combines several devices at once, has rich functionality. The device is used as a grill, barbecue, smokehouse and a regular barbecue. Each component has significance, certain functions.

Brazier "Steam locomotive"

The design of this type of barbecue from a gas cylinder resembles a steam locomotive, if you make an effort to appearance. Additional designs allow you to store firewood, products, etc. When making a locomotive, it is equipped with all sorts of details to increase the functionality of the device. Brazier steam locomotive from a gas cylinder allows you to simultaneously smoke products, cook vegetables and fry shish kebab, an indispensable device for a large company.

Features of a brazier made on the basis of a gas cylinder

Self-manufacturing makes it possible to select the necessary parameters, the functionality of the equipment. Braziers from gas cylinders are popular among owners summer cottages and houses. Installing additional elements makes it possible to cook many products in various ways. The offered models on the market often do not meet the wishes of the client, there are no height adjustments or the design is not capacious enough.

Advantages and disadvantages

All devices have a number of positive and negative sides. The brazier from gas-balloon equipment became famous for its simplicity of design and other qualities:

  • a simple manufacturing method allows not even experienced master build a brazier, having tools, fixtures, as well as a visual aid;
  • the use of improvised means excludes financial costs, monetary losses entail only a tool, some additional elements;
  • long service life is due to the thick metal in the walls of the cylinder, the manufactured part is not subject to temperature effects or mechanical damage;
  • The flip-top lid allows you to cook your favorite dishes outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • the mobile design allows you to carry the brazier on the site or in the car, a reliable bottom makes it possible not to fill the coals with water, but simply cover the brazier with a lid.

Disadvantages of a brazier from a gas cylinder:

  • the dimensions of the structure may not always allow you to move, install the brazier in the right place;
  • the weight of the structure is large, so moving without special devices alone is impossible;
  • the use of firewood will delay the cooking process for a long time.

The nuances of using the received product

Correct technical operation makes it possible to use the manufactured structure for a long time. During downtime, it is better to clean the structure indoors to avoid exposure to direct sunlight and the formation of corrosion.

Odors are eliminated by burning the inside of the brazier. The design must be used away from flammable parts, as a spark may jump out during operation. After use, it is recommended to pour out the ashes, high-quality raw materials can continue to smolder for up to several days.

Outdoor recreation is always associated with barbecue, grill and barbecue. Of course, for their preparation you need to have a barbecue. If they are not, then you can make the device yourself. A gas cylinder is well suited for the manufacture of barbecue. This is because its walls are very rough (almost 4 mm) and they are made of high quality metal. In comparison, a steel sheet of the same thickness is softer and more easily deformed.

What can be done? gas cylinder is only a container, which skillful hands can turn into great barbecue, smokehouse or potbelly stove. At the same time, you can make a brazier from a gas cylinder in different options. So, it can be:

  • a design in the form of one half of a propane cylinder sawn along the length;
  • a design that has a cover;
  • an option that is a barbecue and at the same time;
  • a design that is both a barbecue and a smokehouse;
  • barbecue in the form of a steam locomotive (they always like to depict it in the photo).

It is interesting that everyone can make any such barbecue from a gas cylinder with their own hands. Of course, this article will give everything necessary recommendations And step by step instructions creating the options above. It will not be superfluous to view various videos as well as drawings.

General algorithm of actions

Creating barbecues from a balloon involves performing very similar actions. The step-by-step instruction, which is often shown in the video, includes the following steps:

  1. Balloon preparation.
  2. Cutting.
  3. Creating a cover, blower and auxiliary holes.
  4. Leg mounting.
  5. Barbecue structures.
  6. Carrying out additional actions and decoration.

Tools and materials

Before you start creating a homemade brazier from a balloon, you need to stock up necessary tools, namely:

  1. Drill.
  2. Angular grinder(Bulgarian).
  3. Welding machine.
  4. Metal brush.

As for materials, the main thing is gas or freon cylinder. It is best to take a container with a volume equal to 50 l. A short cylinder will make it difficult to turn the coals over. Do not take a container with lots of rust because it will not work out to make a good barbecue out of it. You will also need to have:

  1. Metal pipe (diameter 80 mm or more). It will make a chimney.
  2. Aluminum rivets.
  3. Bolts with nuts.
  4. Loops.
  5. Lid handle.
  6. Profile pipe size 50x50 mm. It is possible with a smaller section.
  7. Fire retardant paint.
  8. Elements resembling parts of a steam locomotive.

Balloon preparation

The gas cylinder may contain residual gas, which, when a small spark appears (and it always forms when cutting), it explodes. Therefore, it is impossible to start cutting a cylinder without proper preparation.

Correct gas bottle opening under the barbecue provides priority gas release. To do this, open the valve or, if possible, unscrew it and turn the cylinder over. Then they wait until the gas comes out. To check for gas, you need to use soapy foam. The absence of soap bubbles means that the gas has escaped. This is often noted in different videos.

Next step - sawing off a part, into which it was screwed or in which the valve is tightly fixed. During this process, many sparks will be generated. You can eliminate their appearance, pouring water on the cut. It is better if this work is done by an assistant. Also, water will not allow the metal to heat up.

There may be some residual gas in such a cylinder. To completely eliminate them, in the hole made in place of the valve pour water. She needs to fill the entire balloon. To facilitate the work, it is worth using a hose with pressure. While pouring water, the container should be shaken. After, you can drain the liquid. However, it should be remembered that it absorbed not only the remnants of the gas, but also its smell. And it is stable, and will be felt at the pouring site for several days. Therefore, if you do not want to feel it on the territory of the house or cottage, it is better to pour the water elsewhere.

cutting

The features of this process depend on which brazier the owner decided to make from a gas cylinder. Some people just saw the container in half. The cut is carried out along the cylinder. At the same time, they do so that longitudinal weld metal container was a few centimeters lower.

When the cut on one side is completed, you should immediately proceed to fixing loops. This is worth doing because the balloon is still a one-piece structure and the lid is not moving anywhere. Thanks to this, the curtains are very convenient to weld. Moreover, the probability of making a mistake is significantly reduced. This trick is often talked about on video. It also provides the best step-by-step instructions.

To attach the hinges, you must first do rivet holes. Next, attach the hinges and insert the rivets. If they are aluminum, then it is advisable weld loops. Loops should be placed in one direction. Then the cover can be removed. After fixing the loops, continue cutting.

According to different drawings and videos, it is better to cut the cover. Longitudinal cuts do in the middle of the balloon. Transverse should be carried out in places located in 2-3 cm from transverse seams. You need to work so that the cut lines are even. At the opposite end of the valve, a hole for the blower is cut out. A 5x5 cm hole is enough.

Lid and blower

To the hinged lid remains weld the handle, fixing elements and a metal strip. It is better to place the handle at one end of the cap, so that it is above the other part of the cylinder. Of course she must endure high temperature, after all The lid will get very hot. and give off heat to the handle. A handle placed in one of the corners of the lid will not allow you to burn a person’s hand while opening the barbecue.

Need to limit lid opening size. This is done by attaching to its free edges and the base of the chains. Also, according to some drawings, it is possible from the side of the hinges weld a metal pin. The lid will rest on it. It must be vertical. Its slope depends on how much the owner of the cottage wants to open the lid.

There will always be a gap between the lid and the base. To eliminate it, a metal strip is welded to the lid around the entire perimeter. The result of this process is often shown in the photo.

To make a blower, you need to make a hole at the bottom of the end with size 5x5 cm. weld square pipe. Its length should not exceed 10 cm. In the middle of its two opposite sides, two holes are made into which they are inserted coarse wire or bolt. Until the last, a metal square sheet is welded. It should cover the opening of the pipe. By turning the bolt, it will be possible to change the position of the sheet and manage traction.

Legs and chimney

To make it convenient to make a fire and prepare a grill or barbecue, the cylinder must be raised to a certain height. This is done thanks to leg mounting. It is best to make them from a profile pipe. First, two pipes are welded to the lower half of the barbecue. They should be located along the cut balloon. Next, four legs are welded to them. For convenient movement around the territory of the dacha or at home, to the edges of the legs, you can attach wheels. This feature can be seen in various photos.
