How to make candles at home. The atmosphere of celebration and warmth: do-it-yourself candles

Candles are an attribute of many holidays and. Candles create the very atmosphere that helps to relax and plunge into the world of harmony. To learn how to make candles with your own hands, a master class will be essential, this is the easiest way to master the manufacturing technology and create real works of art from paraffin.

Master class for beginners: multi-colored decorative candle in a glass

We do not need special tools or expensive materials. Buy in store:

  • several white candles;
  • a plastic cup with thick walls;
  • thin wooden stick;
  • clothespin;
  • wax pencils;
  • several cans of condensed milk, green peas or corn.

We will cut the candles into small pieces, set aside the wick, it will be useful to us for making our candle.

Preparing the wick

To keep it securely, we make a small hole in the bottom of the glass and stretch a wick into it, from the outside we tie a wooden stick to it. Stretch the wick and secure it with a clothespin on top.

Melting the wax

The basis of the master class on decorative candles with your own hands is the process of making wax. To do this, find a pot that can fit five jars of wax at the same time. We heat water in it, put the same amount of wax in each jar, add finely chopped pencils to the jars. We are waiting for the wax to melt and the masses to become homogeneous.

Filling the form with paraffin

At the very bottom we pour white paraffin, in which we did not add a pencil, then pour wax of different colors in turn, the faster this is done, the softer the borders between the colors will be. The brightness of the color can be changed by varying the number of pencils added.

Removing the candle from the mold

Let's wait until the paraffin completely hardens (1.5-2 hours). After that, you can carefully remove it from the glass.

DIY decorative candle ideas

When you have mastered the manufacturing technology, you can start experimenting and unusual decoration. We offer you some simple but original ideas.

Candles with ice

You will need a round shape, paraffin, ice, a wick, a jar and a pot of water to melt the paraffin, wax crayons for color. All manufacturing steps are the same as described above, but the wax must be of the same color. We fix the wick in the form, pour out the pieces of ice, then fill in the paraffin so that the surface is even. Leave the blank until the paraffin is completely dry, then drain the water and take out the candles. The larger the pieces of ice, the more massive the patterns will be.

Japanese style round candles

To create this option, we need special round molds for making candles. They can be purchased at the store or ordered online. We melt the paraffin and pour it into the mold, after a few minutes we pierce the mass in the middle wooden stick, insert the wick and fill the hole with paraffin. When the wax has completely hardened, carefully pull the craft out of the mold, print out the hieroglyph on the computer and attach it to the candle, run it over it several times with a hot iron to glue it.

Aquarium Candle

If you were invited to a birthday or any other holiday, and you don’t know what to give the hero of the occasion, you can create a whole work of art - an aquarium candle. To do this, we need a small round container, similar to an aquarium. It is necessary to pour decorative small pebbles into it, fix the wick and place the figures of fish and jellyfish, shells as close as possible to the glass. Before pouring, tie the wick to a stick so that it stands straight and does not go to the side. To make the composition transparent, nothing can be added to the paraffin.

Master class on making gel candles

IN Lately gel candles are especially popular. The manufacturing process is exciting, because you can come up with any composition using shells, figurines, sand, flowers. The gel can be poured into any glass container with thick walls.

We offer you a master class on gel candles with your own hands, with which you can prepare gifts for loved ones on New Year.

First, let's prepare the materials:

  • glass for mulled wine with thick glass;
  • pouring gel (you can buy ready-made or make at home);
  • 3 cinnamon sticks;
  • dried carnation flowers;
  • dry slices of lemon;
  • small snowflakes made of hard material;
  • wick.

Fix the wick in the glass, fill the container with gel, then carefully lower all the jewelry into it. The liquid is quite viscous, so all objects will be on the surface or in the thickness of the gel. If you want some of the decorations to be at the bottom, then they need to be put in a glass before pouring.

To prepare the gel you will need

  • gelatin - 10 gr.;
  • water - 40 gr.;
  • glycerin - 70 gr.;
  • tannin - 4 gr.

Dissolve gelatin in water, add 50 gr. glycerin, put the mixture on a slow fire and stir until it becomes homogeneous. Then we prepare the second mass - the remaining 20 gr. glycerin is combined with 4 gr. tannin, the mixture will be cloudy, to achieve transparency, it must be boiled for a few seconds. Let's combine both sweep, the candle gel is ready!

Coffee scented candles

At home, you can make scented candles that will delight not only beautiful appearance, but also soothing or tonic odors. We present to your attention a master class on coffee candles with your own hands.

Required Ingredients:

  • paraffin;
  • juice box (it will replace the pouring mold);
  • wick;
  • coffee beans;
  • ribbons for decoration;
  • vanillin.

We put the paraffin in a water bath, and at this time we will prepare the form for pouring. To do this, it is better to use a small juice box, cutting off the top from it. In our case, the candle will turn out to be square, but if you wish, you can take a different shape and make it round.

When the form is ready, we fix the wick. We tie one end to a toothpick, which must be placed on the top of the mold, and fasten the wick from below with a few drops of melted paraffin. Pay attention to the thickness of the wick: the wider and more massive the candle, the thicker it should be.

Back to paraffin. When it is completely melted, add vanillin and coffee beans, heat the food on the fire for another 10 minutes - until a pleasant aroma appears. Put 10 grains of coffee at the bottom of the mold, fill half of the mold with paraffin, wait 2 hours. Then pour 10 more grains on top and pour the remaining paraffin. We leave the wax for 12 hours, then carefully cut the mold and take out the finished candle.

Making wedding candles at home

Traditionally, two thin candles are used at the wedding, which symbolize the bride and groom, and one large one - the family hearth.

You can make your own wedding candles. The master class will help you create real works of art. Let's prepare the materials:

  • form for thin candles;
  • shape for a round candle "family hearth";
  • paraffin
  • 3 wicks
  • lace, fabric flowers, ribbons for decoration;
  • contours on glass for decorating thin candles.

For the manufacture of wedding candles paraffin should be white. First, prepare a large round candle. To do this, install a wick in the form, pour paraffin, wait a few hours until it hardens. Candle "family hearth" is ready.

Carved candles - work for true masters

If you decide to learn how to make carved candles with your own hands, a master class will not be enough. First you need to prepare multi-colored containers where the candle will be dipped, they must be maintained at a constant temperature (75-90 degrees) using a water bath.

So, for work, we need to prepare materials and tools:

  • a container with paraffin of different colors;
  • paraffin blank (candle base);
  • container with cold water;
  • sharp knife;
  • acrylic candle varnish.

The workpiece can be made independently, pouring paraffin into a round or square shape, the most hard work starts later. When the candle is ready, it must be dipped 30 times in containers with paraffin of various colors, but after 1 time it must be dipped in white wax. Then we put it in for a while cold water, cut off the smudges to level the base and you can get to work. Remember that a drawing or pattern needs to be thought out in advance, since everything will have to be done very quickly - the paraffin will harden in 15 minutes. The easiest way to carve is to cut small sections with a thin knife and bend the tips. We will tilt the first row in one direction, the second in the other, etc.

To protect the thread, dip the finished craft in acrylic varnish.

Making candles at home is an exciting activity that requires care and perseverance. Try to make one simple candle, and you will not notice how you learn how to create carved compositions. We will also reveal secrets.

What is beeswax? 4 commercial grades are considered, including wax for foundation, and it is indicated by what technology candles are made - 3 standard and 7 artistic technologies.

Beeswax is the basis of additives E901 and E902, that is, food and candle wax. In the Russian GOST, the properties of another product are indicated - raw materials for foundation. The foundation sheet must be of the highest quality, otherwise the bees will not accept it. Other natural grades exist, such as E903 carnauba wax. You can start making any candle from wax by studying the properties of this material.

Compliance with safety regulations in the manufacture of candles

The wax will already melt at 65°C. When heated to 100 °C, a whitish foam will appear.

Protective apron when working with wax

The critical temperature is considered to be 120 ° C, when vapors are released that can flare up. Therefore, at home, wax is melted in a water or steam bath.

You can not extinguish the flame with water - there will be an explosion. Use soda. And to block the access of oxygen, any improvised means will do. Before work, they put on a canvas apron, gloves, and clothes should hide the maximum surface of the body.

Preparing to make beeswax candles

Equip the workplace:

  • Install a container with soda powder;
  • You also need a pot or bucket of water in which you can put both hands;
  • Remove grease and wax from equipment parts;
  • The room must be ventilated.

Prepare dishes - iron, enameled, copper. Aluminum will smell.

Steam and water

A sponge is placed at the bottom of the container with water, and dishes for melting are placed on the sponge. The water level must be above the wax. The steam bath does not work like this: there is a bowl on the dish with water that covers the entire steam tank.

With a steam bath, the main thing is not to make a mistake with the volume of evaporated liquid. And the raw materials are washed, cooled and crushed before melting.

Tools and materials for making beeswax candles

You need to think about what to make a candle wick from. Usually three cotton threads are twisted or braided. You will also need:

  • Pencil;
  • Weight (can be taken in a tea candle);
  • Needle for the wick, but only when making short candles.

Forms can be made from any material, but first they are lubricated with detergent. Wooden molds can be lubricated with vegetable oil.

Product E901

The base material is better to buy in granules, and wax E901 is white and yellow. Wax candles are of high quality, but they are sold only to beekeepers.

Materials for coloring candles

The dye is added to the melted wax and mixed. Materials:

  • Wax crayons. Edible crayon cannot be made from paraffin.
  • Fat-soluble food colors - powder, gel, paste;
  • Acting makeup, but not much, 2-3 gr. per liter;
  • Kandurin (gold), glitter (aluminum sequins). The glitter will leave a smell.

Gel dyes are suitable for both gel and wax candles.

food coloring

Grim highlights harmful substances, but it is needed for shades of pastels.

Do not use dyes that are soluble in water.

Steps for making beeswax candles

Wax is brought to T=80 °C. The wick must be waxed by tying a weight to it and fixing it on a pencil. Next, the wick is fixed on the mold:

  • The weight remains on the thread;
  • The thread with the knot is passed through the hole at the bottom of the mold.

If a tunnel can be made in the candle, this step is skipped.

Candle without thread

At “step 2”, a dye is added, and a flavoring agent is added before pouring.

Pouring material into a mold

Even before melting, the mold is immersed in a solution detergent, then wipe, but not dry. It will be obligatory and warming up with a hairdryer.

Shape set

The wick must be vertical. The wax is then poured into the center of the mold.

Wax almost does not shrink, and hardening goes from the edge to the center.

Removing the candle from the mold

If a weight was used, the candle is pulled by the wick. For the variant with a node, this method is not suitable. The knot is cut off, and needles, hooks, etc. are used to extract it. With a form without a bottom, this method is also used.

If the mold is flexible, the candle can be squeezed out.

Types of wax candles

A compound candle always consists of the upper and lower halves. And candles with a short wick are sculptures that do not have a regular wick installed. Figured candles are obtained only in detachable or disposable forms. Example − geometric figures. How to make such candles with your own hands, for beginners, is described in the video.

Figured wax candles at home

The form is made of paper, glued and painted over from the outside. Staining is carried out in order to seal the joints.

"Geometry"

A wick with a weight is installed, casting is carried out. The form is removed after cooling.

The valves at the joints will be only "external" (see photo).

DIY beeswax candle with floral motif

When using silicone, you can create a three-dimensional ornament. The detachable form is pulled together with clamps, and the wick is tied into a knot. With a one-piece form, on the contrary, a wick with a weight is used.

You can try to make a mold from 5-7 layers of sealant.

The sealant is applied to the sample covered with oil.

Do-it-yourself openwork wax candle

If pieces of ice are added to the mold, the finished product will be openwork. An example is in the photo.

Ice is lighter than water, and wax even more so. As it cools, the melted ice flows through the holes.

Precautions: the wick with a weight is glued to the bottom of the mold.

Colored wax candles

It’s even amazing what you can do with wax with your own hands, without using either silicone or paper.

Layer alternation

A candle of constant section is immersed in colored wax, alternating several layers. You don't need to wait for drying. It turns out smooth transition or more complex effects.

White wax is the base material.

How to make a beautiful big wax candle

Take a multi-layer workpiece. And on the edges they make “leaves”.

carved ornament

All tiers are processed with a cutter in turn. Start from the top tier.

The previous chapter covered how to make an interleaved layer.

How to make a wax rose with your own hands

The basis of a rose is a waxed wick. It is wrapped in petals.

wax roses

A small master class:

  • The wax is poured onto a saucer;
  • At T=37-40 °C the plate is removed with a thin knife;
  • Form a layer of petals.

The more layers, the more solid the result.

The plate, without removing it from the saucer, is sometimes cut into 2 or 3.

Candle made from palm wax

Product E903 is supplied in granules which are filled into glassware. The surface must be leveled, and a waxed wick is installed in the center.

Wax pellet candles

The design looks simple. But a wick 10 cm long will not burn out even in a day.

Other names for E903 wax are Carnauba, Brazilian, Palm.

Nuances in choosing a wick

Beekeeping magazine determined what the optimal wick diameter is if the raw material is foundation.

These data are also valid for E90X materials. The color of the E901 granules does not play a role. And for the product E902, the numbers in the first line must be reduced.

When making candles from beeswax, they also make a wick with their own hands. The impregnation may be blue vitriol, salt or zinc filings. And the flame will turn into color sea wave, light blue or cornflower blue. And the material is cotton thread.

Benefits and uses of beeswax ear candles

A tube of gauze with wax will help remove the sulfur plug. The method is not approved by medicine, but it is used in Asia.

Waxed gauze

Mode of application:

  1. Cut off part of the cone;
  2. Cover the patient's head with a cloth natural material(flax), make a slot;
  3. Install the tube and set fire to it;
  4. Extinguish the flame when it reaches the mark.

Then, for 15 minutes, a cotton wool turunda is installed.

Benefits of beeswax candles

A tubular candle helps to get rid of diseases:

  • Tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils), rhinitis, otitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • Hearing loss;
  • tinnitus, dizziness;
  • Sleep disturbance.

Antibiotics are needed to cure the infection. Without them, the benefit of the considered method will be zero. And if the wax gets into the ear canal, there will be a difficult treatment, however, without surgical intervention.

Another "minus" - fire hazard. Contraindications: purulent otitis media, ear infections, allergies to pollen or propolis.

Candles with their own hands. Why and who needs them?

It makes no sense to ask what is the use of art for a person. Still can't find an answer.

Technology "3 layers + thread"

From everything that is discussed above, the benefit will be to the master himself, that is, to the author of the work. And if it turns out to be successful, it can be used in any of three qualities:

  • As a bright and memorable gift;
  • As a business card of products offered by the beekeeper;
  • As proof of the naturalness and high quality of wax raw materials.

The number of candle painters in Russia is now small. And success does not come to those who try to copy one of the well-known technologies. Possibility of invention new technology- another reason to master the candle business, and it is better if the beekeeper masters it himself.

Use of wax at home

Glaze and chocolate are prepared with edible wax, it is part of chewing gum. Medicine uses the bee product in a different way - it serves as the basis for ointments and is important material for dentistry. And the product corresponding to GOST 21179-2000 is intended not only for foundation. It is used in the same way as E901 granules.

Application in traditional medicine is not considered here.

Data

White granules E901 look like paraffin. It is impossible to distinguish one from the other by color.

A new kind of art

However, a paraffin candle leaves soot on the mirror. Other disadvantages are listed below.

How to expose paraffin

A natural product should sink in 44% alcohol. The density of paraffin is lower and it floats. Also, paraffin melts at a lower temperature than wax. But this problem is solved in its own way - they add natural ceresin. Its melting point is 65-88 °C.

Regardless of what is added, the density only goes down.

Candlestick cleaning

It is easy to clean the candlestick from wax - you need hot water, optionally boiled. And soot leaves paraffin or ceresin. To clean it off, you need chemistry. And let it be neutral in relation to enamel or coating.

The second way to remove wax is to freeze to T = -1 °C - -2 °C.

The composition of the candle

The products of some candle factories leave no doubts about the high quality.

Candles in retail

What is considered to be used for casting candles food product! But more often a mixture of wax and ceresin is used. The first of the two components is the E902 wax.

Comparison of the cost of E901 and E902: "2.5 to 1" or "3 to 1".

Disadvantages of paraffin candles

Thin synthetic wick - a sign paraffin candle. The burn rate depends on the diameter of the wick. And the soot left by candles consists of paraffin combustion products. Among them, a significant part of the entire periodic table is represented.

Wax, consisting of 50 organic substances, does not leave any soot.

In autumn and winter, it is especially pleasant to wrap yourself in a warm blanket and, turning off the light and leaving only candles to burn, enjoy hot tea, watching snowflakes falling outside the window. And if you add to homemade candles coffee beans and a little vanilla, your house will be filled with amazing "winter" aromas. Unlike those bought in stores, they will not spread a pungent and sugary chemical aroma.

To make them, you will need:

  • small jars or cups;
  • wax for candles (you can also use old candles by melting and filling them with a jar you like);
  • wick;
  • coffee beans;
  • ground vanilla beans.

Melt the wax in a steam bath (you can also melt it in a microwave oven, using a special container for this). Glue a wick to the bottom of your chosen jar or vase. Pour in some melted wax and then add the coffee beans and vanilla. Then fill the jar to the brim. If desired, stir it with a wooden stick. Leave the workpiece to harden and then cut off the excess end of the wick.

Master class №2

By adding shavings from colored wax pencils to a homemade candle, you can achieve a variety of color combinations and effects. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to make a multi-colored geometric pattern candle, but feel free to experiment and try to create your own unique pattern. If you want the colors to blend seamlessly into each other, simply fill in the next layer without waiting for the first one to dry.

You will need:

  • small glass cups (clear or frosted glass), as well as dishes in which you will heat the wax (paper cups for ice cream are also suitable);
  • wax;
  • wax pencils;
  • wick;
  • wooden sticks for stirring.

1: Fill a cup with wax and put it in the microwave for 1 minute. Put some hot wax on the bottom of the glass and fix the wick in it. Wait until it freezes.

2: Prepare the wax crayons: To do this, remove the paper and cut them into small pieces. Fill one of the cups with wax, put pencil pieces (of the same color!) on top and put in the microwave for 2 minutes, then stir to get a homogeneous mass.

3: Take glass cups, tilt them at an angle of about 30° (you can use a dish dryer as a support) and fill with colored wax (about 1/3). Leave on for 20-30 minutes until the wax hardens. Turn the jars over and pour the second layer, then wait again for it to harden. Before pouring the last layer, place the jars vertically on the table. Wait about an hour for the candle to cool completely before lighting the candle.

And it's done!

carved candle

Candles with this pattern are ideal for creating a cozy atmosphere on cold and long autumn evenings. You will need:

  • candle;
  • paper;
  • pencil;

Measure the circumference of your candle and cut out the appropriate piece of paper. Draw the pattern you would like to transfer to it.

Then wrap it with a sheet of paper (pattern facing out) and circle the pattern with a scalpel.

Then, using a knife, carefully peel off the layers to make your drawing voluminous.

DIY gel candles

Gel candles are very easy to make, and at the same time you can fill them with absolutely any decorative ornaments to your taste: shells, colored stones or even beads and buttons.

You will need:

  • jar, glass or glass for a candle;
  • wick;
  • gel wax;
  • decorative ornaments;
  • dyes (you can use food coloring).

Step 1: Warm up the wax. To do this, put a saucepan or any other container on the stove and heat the gel over low heat until it melts into a thick mass. Make sure that the temperature does not exceed 100°C.

Step 2: Glue the wick to the bottom of the cup or jar of your choice. Wait for the glue to dry before pouring the hot gel.

Step 3: Add dye. To get a uniform color, add it while the gel is heating up. If you want air bubbles to form in it, just stir it. And to make a multi-colored candle, just warm up several portions, adding dyes of different colors to each of them.

Step 4: Spread decorations on the bottom of a jar or glass, then fill with a layer of gel. Wait for it to dry, then put on a second layer of decorations and fill with gel again. Here are our gel candles:

Lesson #5: Geometric Candle

To make such unusual candles, You will need:

  • paraffin wax;
  • wick;
  • container for heating;
  • wooden stick for stirring;
  • scissors;
  • ruler;
  • PVA glue;
  • newspaper (to protect the desktop from drops);
  • candle stands;
  • aromatic oil (optional)
  • thick paper.

1: Print and cut out candle templates. Using a blunt object (eg. reverse side knife) "push" the folds (as shown in the picture).

Bend the template: bend along the dotted lines in the direction “towards you”, along the usual lines - “away from you”. Fold the shape and glue the bottom and sides. After the glue has completely dried, make sure that all joints are sealed (otherwise the wax may seep through the cracks). If necessary, reinforce the seams with tape.

2: Glue the wick to the bottom of the mold. To secure it vertically, wrap (or glue) string around the pencil and place it over the edges of the mold.

Melt the wax in a steam bath, add dyes and / or aromatic oils. Then pour it into a cardboard mold. Make sure the wick stays in the middle of the candle.

After the candle has cooled down, you may find that the center has "sunk" a little. Just add some more wax and wait for it to cool down.

3: After the wax is completely hardened, remove the paper. We recommend that you put the candle in the refrigerator first, then the paper will come off easier. Trim the wick and use your finger to lightly round the edges of the candle.

Master class number 6

Floating candles look very romantic. You can also experiment with different colors and sizes.

You will need:

  • wax;
  • a saucepan for melting;
  • wick;
  • wax pencils;
  • old molds for baking;
  • baking spray (to make it easier to remove finished candles from molds);
  • aromatic oil (optional)

1: Spray each mold with baking spray - this will make it easier for you to separate the candle from the mold later. For each candle, take a piece of wick about 8 cm long and glue it to the bottom.

Melt the wax by adding wax pencils cut into small pieces. To make 6 candles you will need approximately 4 cups of wax and 20 drops aromatic oil(5 drops for each serving). To get this coral color, use red and orange wax crayons.

2: After melting the wax, fill each of the baking pans with it about ¼ full. Please note that candles should be light so that they do not drown. When everything is completely cool, remove the candles from the molds by pulling on the wick.

Dip them in a vase filled with water and light it.

Lesson #7

Candle lovers know that there are many ways to decorate them. We offer you several ideas on how to decorate them, for example, for a festively laid New Year's table or a romantic dinner in honor of Valentine's Day, or if you just want to diversify the interior according to your mood.

Using the technique we have suggested, you can decorate the candle with any suitable pattern.

You will need:

  • plain candle (preferably a light color);
  • white paper napkins;
  • wax paper;
  • scissors;
  • Printer;

Choose the picture you like, enlarge or reduce it to right size. On a regular A4 sheet, place a napkin a little bigger size, fold the corners, and print your image on it. If your printer does not allow you to print on such paper, then you can draw a picture on a napkin yourself or transfer it through carbon paper.

Cut the image along the contour and glue it on the reverse side with glue (glue stick is best for this), glue it on the candle. Then wrap the candle with wax paper. Take a hair dryer, turn it on and direct the jet of air at the image.

Under the influence of hot air, the wax on the wax paper and the candle will melt slightly, and the picture will stick to the candle.

Lesson number 8: Candles with an autumn pattern

You will need:

  • three candles of different sizes;
  • a plate or tray as a stand;
  • decorative sand (natural or golden hue);
  • paint markers;
  • sequins.

On the largest candle, draw a tree with a brown marker, and below it, next to it, a few fallen leaves.

Draw twigs with leaves on two smaller candles.

To get such multi-colored leaves, drip a little green paint, then orange and yellow. Without waiting for the paint to dry, lightly mix the paint with a toothpick or thin wooden stick. Decorate the candle with glitter.

While the paint dries, prepare the tray. Pour golden decorative sand, put cones, leaves, twigs and berries and arrange candles. Our composition is ready:

Decorative candle with gradient effect

You will need:

  • candles;
  • paraffin wax;
  • wax pencils different shades one color (for example, orange);
  • clean tin.

1: Remove the paper from the wax pencils and cut them into small pieces. Fill a tin cup halfway with wax and place wax crayon pieces on top. Place the mug in a saucepan and fill with water to cover about 2/3 of the mug. Press down on it, for example, with a lid and bring the water to a boil. Wait for the wax to melt (approximately 15 minutes). Then mix well.

2: Place the container of melted wax on flat surface, then take the candle and lower it vertically to a depth of 2.5-3 cm. Hold it in this position for about 10 seconds, then lower the candle another 2.5-3 cm deeper. Wait another 10 seconds. Continue dipping the candle deeper into the wax until you reach the desired level. To make the last layer as thin and transparent as possible, lower the candle only for a moment, and then immediately pull it out.

After about an hour, the wax will completely harden and the candle can be lit or packaged and presented to someone as a gift.

I hope you find an interesting idea for yourself and make a candle yourself!

Handmade is gaining more and more popularity. Extravagant jewelry, paintings, toys, decorative elements, gifts - this is only a small part of what enthusiastic craftsmen and amateurs create with their own hands. Today we will talk about how to make a candle at home.

This process does not require special skills and equipment. After reviewing our recommendations and detailed master classes, start this exciting process maybe even beginners.

CREATING A CANDLE: WHERE TO START

DIY candles are much easier to make than you might think. And the main advantage of such an activity is necessary materials easy to get. If you look carefully, you will find them even in your home.

MATERIALS FOR HOMEMADE CANDLE

Wax, stearin or paraffin are best suited for work. Moreover, it is better for beginners to start acquaintance with the latter, it is the least whimsical to use. You can purchase paraffin wax from the store or use the leftovers of old white candles.

WICK

As a wick, it is best to use natural threads, ideally thick cotton threads. Do not try to use synthetics: such a wick will quickly burn out and leave behind bad smell. To test the thread for naturalness, simply set fire to its tip. If it melts, forming a solid ball at the end, you have synthetics in front of you.

If you have conceived an unusual candle and are thinking how to make an original wick for it, then use colored floss threads. This is a great and natural material.

Remember important rule: The thicker the candle, the thicker the wick should be.

It's easy to make your own. To do this, prepare a solution: in a glass of water, dissolve 1 tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons boric acid. Soak cotton thread or floss in it for 12 hours. Then dry them and twist a tourniquet out of them or braid a pigtail.

If this process seems tedious to you, carefully remove the wick from the finished household candle and use it.

CANDLE MOLD

First of all decide on the configuration of the desired candle, and then try to find a hollow object of the same shape. You may find it useful:

Cardboard packages from milk and juices;
. plastic cups from yogurts and desserts;
. egg shell;
. silicone molds for baking;
. glass goblets, wine glasses, glasses and glasses;
. children's pastries;
. figured forms for ice cream;
. tin and glass coffee jars;
. empty cans.

The only requirement is that the mold material must withstand heating up to 100°C.

Another interesting option- pour candles into beautiful transparent glasses. They will not be available, but they will look very stylish and unusual.

Sometimes scented candles are made in tangerine or orange peel. The fruit is pre-cut in half and the pulp is carefully removed. You can also use large shells or coconut shells.

DYES

A white candle is elegant but boring. Naturally, the question arises of how to color the paraffin in order to get bright interior decorations.

For lovers of candle making, it is best and cheapest to take wax crayons for children's creativity. Would you like to receive a special candle? Look for mother-of-pearl crayons - your creation will be unique.

WARE FOR MELTING PARAFFIN

In order to melt the paraffin, you will need a small saucepan for a steam bath and an iron bowl. Experienced craftsmen it is recommended to heat paraffin in a steam bath, considering other methods, including a microwave oven, to be fire hazardous.

We recommend that you first also use this method, proven over the years: place a bowl of paraffin in a container of boiling water. If the candle is planned to be colored, add the chalk immediately and mix the melted mass several times to obtain a uniform color.

FRAGRANTS AND DECOR

Any materials at hand are suitable for decorating candles. First, decide on the topic of your work. Pebbles and shells will effectively complement the candles in nautical style. For New Year theme use beads, small cones, small decorative balls, ribbons and bows. Decorate candles for Valentine's Day with hearts, sequins, bows, dried flowers, coffee beans, etc.

It is best to scent homemade candles with essential oils, which can be purchased at the nearest pharmacy. Another option is to find vanilla cinnamon in your kitchen. It is worth adding flavors to melted paraffin at the very end, after staining.

For work you will need:
. paraffin;
. whole coffee beans;
. wick;
. two plastic cups different size;
. wick holder - a teaspoon, wooden stick or plastic coffee stirrer.

If you did not find paraffin, take household candles, you can also get a wick from them.

Crush the paraffin into small pieces with a knife to speed up the melting process. If you took store-bought candles, gently crush them with the blunt side of the knife so as not to damage the wick.

Put the paraffin in glass jar and put it in a bowl with warm water. Heat the water over low heat until the paraffin is completely melted in the jar - it should become transparent.

At this time, prepare the form for pouring. In a larger plastic cup, place the smaller one, after filling it with water. There should be a fairly wide space between the walls of the cups. Pour coffee beans up to half the height between the walls.

Pour the melted paraffin into the mold to the level of the grains, wait 10 minutes. Then pour the paraffin up to the edge of the mold and let it harden completely. This will take about an hour.

Carefully pour the water out of the inner beaker and remove it from the paraffin ring. Lower the wick into the workpiece so that it reaches the bottom of the glass. Tie its upper end to the holder and place it on top of the glass, centering the wick.

Pour melted paraffin into the middle of the candle. Place a few grains on top for decoration. Now, until the candle completely solidifies, you will have to wait 4-6 hours.

Carefully remove the frozen candle from the glass. However, it can be cut with scissors to facilitate manipulation.

If you want the grains to be more visible, blow the sides of the product with hot air from a hair dryer. The paraffin will melt and the surface will become embossed.

materials

Clear wax;
wax pencils;
disposable paper cups;
glass cups;
wicks;
ice cream sticks;
aroma oils;
microwave oven;
grater.

Step 1. Grate ordinary transparent wax and fill paper cups with the resulting material. You only need to fill them with this material by a quarter.

Step 2 Microwave the cup for 45 seconds. Get it out. Stir the wax with a wooden stick. It should melt completely, if this does not happen, send the glass to the oven for another 30 seconds.

Step 3. Dip a wick into an empty glass cup. You can attach its other end to an ice cream stick and put it on top of the cup. This will make it easier for you to keep working. Pour some wax into a glass and wait for it to set. Thus, the wick should be fixed in the center of the cup.

Step 4 Remove the paper wrapper from the wax crayons. Grate them and add the desired color of crayons to separate cups with wax. For a third of a glass of wax, add shavings of one pencil to get a sufficiently saturated color.

Step 5. Send a glass of colored wax to the microwave for 2.5 minutes. Take it out and while stirring, add a few drops of the chosen aromatic oil. You don't have to, but with oil, your candles will give off a pleasant aroma.

Step 6. While holding the wick, pour the first layer of colored wax into the cup. To get an interesting pattern, tilt the cup at an angle and hold it in that position until the wax sets.

Step 7. Melt cups with wax of a different color in the same way and also, but at the opposite angle, pour them one by one into a glass cup. Each time, fix the container in different positions until the wax sets.

Step 8. Having formed a multi-colored candle, let the wax cool completely.

Bright and unusual candles are ready. You can use them for their intended purpose or give them to friends as souvenirs.

For work you will need:
. any dried flowers;
. 2 candles - for decoration and ordinary;
. tea spoon;
. tweezers;
. nail scissors;
. paraffin for final coverage.

From the dried flowers you have available, compose the composition that you want to bring to life.

Over an ordinary burning candle, heat a teaspoon ( inside over the fire, because the spoon will turn a little black, and in order not to stain the candle, then we will carry out all the manipulations with the other side of the spoon).

Attach a dry flower to the candle to be decorated and gently iron its petals with the outside of the spoon so that they melt to the paraffin and do not stick out. Thick stems may need to be ironed several times while heating the spoon.

Excess stems that extend beyond the candle, carefully cut with scissors.

Glue the rest of the elements in the same way, choosing the desired location for them. Make sure that the edges of the leaves and petals do not stick out.

It remains to fix the result. Melt the paraffin in a water bath, pour it into a container into which you can completely dip the decorated candle.

Holding the candle by the wick, dip it into the melted paraffin, set it on a flat surface and let it cool. If the petals were not smoothed well and protruding tips remained visible, repeat this procedure again.

Such an elegant candle will conquer any heart and will not be left without attention. Complete it with a beautiful candlestick and it will become a unique decoration of your home.

Attach the prepared element to the candle and iron it with a hot spoon. Sand the cooled surface with the rough side of a regular kitchen sponge. It is not necessary to immerse the candle in melted paraffin with this method.

How to make a candle - preparation of materials and tools

To make candle decor, you need to prepare tools and materials. At the first stage, it is important to clearly follow all the recommendations in order to fill the candles correctly later.

  • The basis. One of the cheapest materials for candle mass is soy wax. He has natural basis which is made from soybean oil. It is easy to work with such wax and clean molds from it.
  • In addition to soy-based wax, beeswax is used, which is known for its medicinal properties. But such wax has a high cost. An analogue of natural components is paraffin - cheap, but made from petroleum products. Transparent candles have a gel base.
  • Form. It is convenient to use as a case for candles if it is with a glass surface. Through it, the structure of the candle is visible. Metal, silicone and plastic molds are also used for candle making.
  • Wick. A thin cord or floss thread is often used for it. Pre-soak it with melted wax, then install it in a metal holder.
  • Flavorings and dyes. The dye gives the color to the wax. Instead, you can add oil paints. Essential oils will add aroma to the candle. Use your favorite oil or a mixture of both.
  • Tools. In addition to materials for making candles, prepare the following tools. Scales for determining the mass of a solid base, a knife and a grater, measuring cups and a container, a wooden spatula, a thermometer. Take extra paper towels and oven mitts as the wax will be hot.

How to make a candle - the progress of work

  • If you don't have special molds for casting candles, then cups from an old tea set or even empty jars will do. Rinse blanks in warm water before use. Or plunge into boiling water.

  • Wipe the mold well paper towels. Wax must be poured into a completely dry container, otherwise it may bounce.

  • To determine the volume of the required mass of wax, resort to a little trick. Pour water into the mold to the desired level.

  • Then pour the liquid into a measuring cup. So you will know the exact mass for making candles.

  • Weigh the water without taking into account the capacity. Grind the wax on a grater or with a knife. Try to make equal pieces so that they melt evenly. In a separate bowl, transfer the wax equal to twice the weight of the liquid.

  • Wax must be melted in a water bath. Fill a large saucepan with water up to halfway. Put on fire. Transfer the wax mixture to a pitcher or other container with a handle. When the water boils, lower the dishes into the pan.

  • Stir frequently until wax is completely melted. So the mass will have a uniform consistency.

  • If the wax outwardly began to resemble olive oil then it melted completely. Remove the container from the fire.

  • The hot mixture should not be immediately poured into the mold. Before adding other components, it is necessary to reduce its temperature to 60 degrees.

  • While the wax mass is cooling, install the wick. Fix its base with hot glue at the bottom of the mold. So during the hardening of the wax, it will not move.

  • It is also important to fix the wick in the central part of the workpiece. This can be done with a piece of satin ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half and cut along the fold line.

  • Pass the wick through the hole in the ribbon. Additionally, fix its edges with tape.

  • Add essential oils to the cooled wax. The optimal ratio of aroma to candle weight: 1 drop of extract per 400 g of wax.

  • Mix the warm wax well. This will distribute the flavor evenly throughout the mixture. Instead of aromatic oils, use spices or coffee beans. You can add dyes if you wish.

  • Pour the liquid wax into the mold in a thin stream. Try to do this slowly and avoid getting the mixture on the wick and ribbon. This filling will help to avoid the formation of bubbles during the solidification of the wax.

  • When the wax has completely hardened, cut the wick to size and remove the tape.

  • Now you can light candles and enjoy the cozy atmosphere in the room.

At first glance, there is nothing complicated in the manufacture of candles. But there are a few recommendations for pouring fragrant decor that will facilitate the process and help avoid mistakes.

  • To achieve a uniform color of the wax, do not use food coloring. They are water based.
  • If it was not possible to purchase special dyes for candles, then use wax-based colored pencils. Grind them and add to the warm candle mass.

The process of making candles at home becomes an exciting activity. In addition, hand-made candle decor gives comfort and warmth.
