How to make a composition of succulents with your own hands. The role of succulents in design decisions. Selection of decorative accessories for a mini cactus garden

When an amateur florist already has sufficient experience in growing succulents and cacti, knows the features of caring for these plants, then you can try your hand at creativity. We are talking about compiling compact mini-gardens from a large and diverse world of desert flora. This is very fascinating process. And even if not everything will work out right away - you will get great pleasure. Everything is not so difficult if you listen to the advice of experienced flower growers.

Some potted succulents sometimes look dull and lonely. And in combination with other plants suitable for care and maintenance, they will show themselves in all their glory.

Capacity selection

First you need to roughly imagine: what kind of picture would you like to create - similar to a landscape or a composition that resembles an extravagant bouquet. The type of container in which the plants will be planted depends on this. Sometimes compositions are created spontaneously, when a grower accumulates a lot of children, pruning after the formation of a crown or bush, they are made into a single picture.

Aquarium: in round aquariums it is quite difficult to make a large composition. But everything is possible if there is a desire. First you need to disinfect the container. This can be done either with alcohol (just wipe) or with a solution of chlorhexidine. At the bottom you need to pour crushed charcoal, preferably birch.

Charcoal absorbs organic residues and prevents molds from developing. Then we add drainage (usually expanded clay) and the appropriate soil substrate in an even layer. Since the aquarium is transparent, for beauty, you can alternate the soil with layers of colored sand. Then we plant succulents and cacti, depending on the plan.

Clay vase - cache-pot: it is better to use decorative vases with uneven, asymmetrical edges. There should be holes on the bottom for water to drain. The pallet should match the color and size of the pot. Pay attention to the color - it should be combined with plants. Clay is a hygroscopic material, so it is best suited for succulents. Under the container for a mini-garden, pots with a broken edge, giant shells can also come up.

glass vase: on sale there are large glasses for chips, as well as flowerpots with legs. They are treated in the same way as aquariums. But it is very beautiful if you plant plants that will hang like vines from the edge of the flowerpot. In all cases, wherever an exotic garden is arranged, decorative details must be added: colored glass pebbles, small fortresses (these are placed in an aquarium for fish), artificial moss and others.

Wooden box or pot made from a piece of solid wood: this method is for true connoisseurs of flower eco-culture. The material is rather whimsical in care, it requires accurate watering techniques (such a pot cannot be wetted much). If you decide to make a wooden container yourself, then be sure to coat it with a water-repellent varnish or impregnation for wood before planting. Such a pot will look amazing in any interior, delighting you and your guests!

Florariums: Recently, it has become very popular to plant succulents and cacti in florariums. Now you can easily purchase a variety of geometric containers in online stores, and even florariums with ready-made compositions. Succulents grow well in florariums, this is due to the protection of the plant from drafts and temperature changes.

There is more economical option- find a suitable home glass vessel and fill it to your liking and desire.

What plants can be used

Composition center should be either in the center or on the edge. For the center, tree-like types of succulents are used. Can be used:

  • Aeonium tree (Aeonium arboretum);
  • Dorstenia (Dorstenia);
  • Sedum dendrodium tree (Sedum dendrodium);
  • Pedilanthus tithymaloides (variety - low) (Pedilanthus tithymaloides v. Nanus);
  • Adenia spinosa (prickly) (Adenia spinosa).

Then you need to arrange two or three large succulents or cacti. Of the succulents, some types of aeoniums (longline, layered) look very beautiful, dinteranthus microspermus (Dinteranthus microspermus) - a plant that looks like gray stones, blooms yellow flower. You can also plant the most hardy cacti:

  • Mammillaria (Mammillaria);
  • Echinopsis (Echinopsis);
  • Rebutia aureiflora rubriflora (Rebutia aureiflora rubriflora);
  • Chamecereus silvestri (Chamaecereus silvestry).

desirable, and even it is necessary to leave a place in the foreground for small plants, especially if, as they grow, they hang in small vines along the edge of the container. The more varieties there are, the more interesting the composition will become. Here you can place some of the plants such as:

  • Sedum Weinberg (Sedum weinbergii);
  • Sedum Siebold (Sedum sieboldii);
  • Other types of stonecrop (Sedum).

Proper planting of composition plants - step by step instructions

For proper planting, you need to purchase special tools: bamboo tweezers, small spatulas, an artist's trowel is perfect, even a teaspoon is useful for filling small containers with soil.

  • We prepare the ground or components of the substrate. We took part of the already prepared land for cacti and succulents, drainage, sand and charcoal. All components were purchased from the store. If you take materials from the street, be sure to heat the sand and stones in the oven, or roast them in a frying pan.

  • Choose a container for planting and plants.

  • In a prepared vessel (aquarium, glass vase, ceramic flat pot or deep dish) fall asleep at least ¼ of the drainage height. In transparent containers, you can separate it with a layer of colored sand.

  • Next, carefully pour the mixed soil mixture. Leaving 1 cm from the top of the pot, we make indentations in the soil, marking the places for planting.

  • Carefully straighten the roots of plants (for cacti, they must be carefully examined and cut out old and rotten or dried roots). Please note that the root neck of the plant is not covered. This is important, if you deepen the neck, then accumulation of moisture and decay may occur.

  • At the end, you can decorate the bare places with colored pebbles, artificial moss, shells and put decorative elements. You can buy small ceramic gnomes, and if the composition is being prepared for a New Year's gift, then put the figures of Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden.

Care

Watering

The most difficult and demanding action in caring for a mini-garden. Therefore, it is so important to select plants with the same water requirement. All succulents love heat and good light, but watering should be rather scarce, just to wet the soil. If a plant is planted that loves abundant, but rare watering (there are such tropical succulents), then it is watered pointwise, under the ground near the root. In summer, the composition is watered as the soil dries, which is easiest to check with your hands. In winter, once every 2-3 weeks, more often it is not worth it. All plants are in the dormant stage.

When a succulent experiences a lack of moisture, it begins to grow roots, releases aerial roots. If watered too often or too much, plants can rot and die. Tell your family not to water the plants, even if they think it's time to water. Make it a rule that only you do it. Otherwise, compassionate relatives will feel sorry for the poor flowers so much that you will have to start all over again.

Do not water mini-gardens cold water, it is better if you use water room temperature. This is especially true for small seedlings and watering in the winter. It is convenient to use a syringe for watering.

Lighting

Choose light-loving plants - these, in fact, include all succulents and cacti. Therefore, they need to be placed in a well-lit place - a loggia, a balcony. But it's in summer time when the night temperature is high enough. You also need to take into account the attitude to direct rays of sunlight, cacti love it, but some succulents can get burned. To prevent this from happening, use mesh shading.

They also need sunlight in winter, so you need to put the pot to the window itself so that there is as much light as possible. But backlighting is necessary if there is a catastrophic lack of light: if the windows are on the ground floor and because of the trees Sun rays can't get through to your window sill. Due to lack of light, plants stretch, become lethargic, lose all their attractiveness and even change color. Without light, no succulent will grow well!

In summer, with poor watering, the colors of succulents become brighter, they become especially beautiful if they are left on a balcony or loggia on dry sunny autumn days. Coolness has a stimulating effect on succulents, they become brighter, the leaves either shine more strongly, or vice versa, the edge on the plants increases.

Temperature

Mini compositions feel great in temperature regime our city apartments, in summer the temperature is 20-25 degrees, with regular ventilation for such compositions, just resort conditions. You can put them on the loggia, on the balcony, on the terrace of a country house.

In winter, in our apartments, succulents and cacti suffer from a lack of lighting, but the temperature should be around 10-15 degrees. This can be done by isolating the window sill from the heat that comes from the batteries. central heating. At low temperatures, succulents freeze and during this period you can not water them at all, they do not need extra moisture. Then you will avoid stretching the flower.

Humidity

All succulents and cacti come from hot and dry places, so they do not need moist air. They love dry air, ventilation. You can’t just put compositions in a draft. Although the plants are not sissies, and they can endure short-term inconvenience, but constant exposure to a draft threatens with deformation of the stems, leaf fall. high humidity depressing effect not only on succulents, but also on cacti. Especially during the flowering period.

The soil

There are many options for the composition of the soil mixture. Ready mix purchased from flower shop. For a beginner amateur florist, one well-proven scheme for compiling a substrate is enough:

  • The soil for the compositions is based on peat. It is better to buy a ready-made peat mixture (preferably German-made), taking a certain amount of peat - you need to check it, remove sticks, and other debris;
  • Then add perlite, about one third of the peat mixture. It gives the substrate looseness and permeability;
  • Be sure to add expanded clay of fine fraction (3-5 mm in diameter) to the mixture. It is put in the same amount as you put perlite. Roots need expanded clay, as they must cling to a support;
  • Add charcoal and sand. Coal protects the roots from rotting, and sand helps to pass moisture through the soil. Some flower growers plant succulents in sand alone, adding expanded clay and coal to the bottom of the vessel, without using earth and peat.

Transfer

Transplanting plants in a mini-garden is rare, but if suddenly you decide to replace one plant with another, more extravagant one, you need to carefully flat wooden stick release the roots from the soil and the roots of other succulents. Often the roots are intertwined quite strongly, you can try to slowly stretch the plant.

If you decide to transplant the entire composition into a larger pot, or a more beautiful vase, then this should be done using the transshipment method. Try to free all the roots of plants from the remnants of the old soil and, planting in a new container, distribute them evenly over the entire area. At this point, you can add new plants if you see fit.

Fertilizer

You can fertilize succulents from March to November, once a month with special fertilizers with a low nitrogen content. Breeding according to the instructions. The photo shows how much dry fertilizer to take per 0.5 liter of water.

Size matters: determine the size of the composition

First of all, you need to decide on the size of the composition: it will be a simple small cactus plant or a garden in a cup, glass, bowl, or a large composition in an aquarium, bowl, large wide flowerpot. See if there is enough space on the windowsill or shelf, near the window, for a future masterpiece. Take into account the illumination - it should be sufficient, not scarce. In small pots, respectively, it is necessary to plant cacti that do not grow quickly or grow large.

Selection of cacti

Before grouping thorny plants, you need to find out if they are suitable for each other, or if their cohabitation is undesirable. For example, cereus grows quickly and grows large - it is not suitable for small mini-gardens. And mammillaria and echinocactus do not like temperatures below +15, therefore, it is better not to combine them with cold-resistant cacti. In more detail, the features and preferences of the most common types of cacti can be read.

Soil preparation for a mini-garden

When the choice is made, you need to take care of the soil mixture for cacti. You can go two ways:

1. Buy a ready-made mixture for cacti in the store. Prepare only a drainage layer of gravel, small pebbles, broken brick or foam (what you can find).

Now it remains only to prepare decorative trinkets.

Selection of decorative accessories for a mini cactus garden

The most unexpected items that can fit in size can act as decor. You can come up with a thematic composition (sea, desert, rural yard and others) or simply arrange it according to your desire and mood. Here are some accessories you can use:

  • toy household equipment: shovels, rakes, buckets, watering cans;
  • stones different breeds and sizes;
  • marine attributes;
  • beads of different sizes;
  • sand of different colors;
  • small figurines of animals, insects, men, gnomes.

And much more, because human imagination has no limits.

Making an indoor cactus garden

Planting a cactus garden is as follows:

  • Pour a drainage layer at the bottom of the pot, remembering to make holes in the pot itself.
  • Pour a small amount of potting mix into the pot.
  • Place the cacti in a pot for reference and adjustment.

  • Choose the most good option accommodation.
  • Plant one at a time, cacti in a flowerpot.
  • Fill with soil mixture, and put pebbles or pour sand on top.
  • Decorate at your discretion and taste.
  • Watering on the day of planting cacti is not worth it.

Well, the composition is ready to admire and grow on the windowsill.

Having created a mini-garden of cacti with your own hands, you can get a lot of pleasant emotions from the very process of planting and decorating. And the originality and beauty of the composition will delight the eyes for more than one year.

  • Indoor mini-gardens: photos, varieties, selection ...

Succulents are a real find for compositions and creativity, they can be planted not only in shells, snags, coconut shells, cups, cracks on the walls, but also in everything that fantasy tells. Of course, we would not want to limit it, so here we will only give what will really be useful and help you create your own unique composition with your own hands. The article is for the most part a selection of photos, however, there are also several universal master classes that will allow you to quickly master the main rules for decorating compositions from succulents.

Let's start with the range

Let's describe the groups suitable plants and some specific "heroes". Of course, the entire set of cultures cannot be covered in one article:

  1. cacti. But not all of them are suitable for compositions.
  2. Aloe, various forms.
  3. Lithops (they are rarely used in compositions with other plants, because the agricultural technology of these plants is very peculiar). As a rule, compose different kinds lithops in one pot, without other plants.

The most popular plants in compositions:

  1. Stonecrops.
  2. Younger.
  3. Aeoniums.
  4. Echeveria.

Stonecrops are a huge group of plants. In the photo below, on the left, the stonecrop is prominent - plants 30-40 cm high, with bright decorative flowers, on the right - the stonecrop is blue - its height does not exceed 5-10 cm.:

Young - well known under the name "stone rose" also includes a lot of hybrids:

Aeoniums are plants 25-30 cm high. There are a lot of varieties and varieties:

Aeonium Arborium 'Schwarzkopf'

Aeonium haworthii variegta

To create solid surfaces, especially the effect of fluid, echeverias are very popular:

Varieties of echeveria are possible. They are actively used for wall planters:

Miniature finestraria, with cone leaves, are good in desktop compositions. Their farming technique is similar to that of Lithops: complete absence of watering in winter, careful and scarce watering in summer, well-lit place.

Fenestraria Rhopalophylla

Finestraria with lithops.

Ampel succulents

Rowley's ragwort - original leaf-balls. Unpretentious.

Stonecrop Morgan is a fairly powerful plant with long stems, densely covered with leaves. Hanging shoots resemble thick sausages.

Of course, the plant is highly decorative and solo, however, it is also actively used in compositions. True, in the photo below, Burrito's stonecrop is very similar to it:

Stonecrop Burrito:

And also worth a look at other members of the family Crassula: cotyledons, pachyphytums, kalanchoes, sedums, crassulas, graptopetalums. From other families fit: euphorbia, peperomia, senecio, some types of agave, haworthia, gasteria, representatives of families Mesembryanthem and Lastovnevy. Perhaps some plants from the family will do Euphorbia.

It makes sense to try yourself first in the arrangement of separately planted plants:

Compositions, ideas, techniques

The sequence of creating a composition

Regardless of the size and shape of the composition, there is general rules their creations:

Now you know how to make almost any arrangement of succulents. Of course, this is a very simplified scheme, because such important things as the thickness of the soil layer, the kneading of the earth mixture, the selection of moss and decor, that is, in fact, everything that creates conditions for the roots of plants, are selected individually for each composition - you can say , "approximately". However, the sight is formed quite accurately with the experience of growing succulents. If you have been seriously engaged in them for at least a year, you feel their needs, you know how to grow a healthy plant, where to put it, what to plant it in, how to water it, then there will be no problems with creating your own masterpiece mix.

Container selection

We decided not to waste printed signs, but simply to show you as many different containers as possible. It is noteworthy that succulents can do with a small amount of land, so even the smallest items can act as a container.

You can implement any image using:

shells

Or their imitation of plaster or cement:

The photo shows a cement sink, made specifically for the composition.

processed tree

It is better, of course, to use wooden containers as flower pots, and plant plants in a container that is less exposed to moisture.

Stumps and snags

Charming and very skillfully executed composition with seashells.

Toys

Old pots and vases

And the tighter, the better:

Everything you can find in the kitchen

Cups, spoons, scoops for bulk products, baking dishes, beautifully decorated old tins, cups, broken kettles, sardine tins, picnic baskets, sweets and dessert bowls:

Vintage of old cans, watering cans, plastic bottles, as in some of the photos above - a separate process, no less interesting than creating compositions from succulents. It is noteworthy that none of the domestic craftswomen has yet mastered such processing of junk. Many of the compositions in the photo above in vintage recycled containers are commercial compositions intended for sale. However, they are not much different from do-it-yourself amateur ones, except that on the stream you can hone and simplify the details.

Chairs

There is something nostalgic in such compositions, where succulents densely cover the chair and it’s not even about the style of the piece of furniture itself. The fact itself - the furniture is completely overgrown with plants - evokes associations with an abandoned garden and the romance of antiquity.

And even wine corks or eggshells

In general, any item

images

It’s also a matter of fantasy, so below are some photos for inspiration.

Landscapes with mountains and rocks

A little lower we will talk about landscapes, only more complex. Recreation of mountains, rocks, islands lost in white foam sea waves, is relatively easy to achieve. Use decorative stone chips, marbles, stones, driftwood, cobblestones, their gypsum imitations.

Stream or waterfall

The reception is quite popular - plants or stones imitate spilling water. This technique is often used in flowerbeds. open ground, with the help of ground cover flowers (, ageratum, soapwort, obrieta, arabis). Succulents will successfully cope with the same task. Blue-gray echeverias are ideal.

However, nothing prevents the spilled "waves" from being of a different shade:

Succulents can be a great addition to a stone stream:

Animals

Ball and other volumetric hanging figures

This task is more difficult. Ready-made succulent balls cost about 50 Euros on Etsy.

A ball is made of wire with a diameter of ...., wrapped with the same mesh, but not completely, you should leave some space so that you can work with inner surface ball. to lay out the surface with a very thick layer of moss and coconut fiber, then the soil suitable for succulents is filled up, possibly looser, you can insert into the center foam ball small diameter to prevent dampness and not to make the composition too heavy. Close grid. You can start planting.

Trees are created in the same way.

Panels, paintings and other wall compositions

For Valentine's Day:

Inscriptions and pointers

The price of such an original pointer is about $ 30.

Nothing prevents laying out any inscription on the same principle.

Wreaths on the door

They are not very popular with us, although I must admit - a wreath, including from succulents, on a door or on a fence, looks attractive.

Panel from the Ikea table

A fairly popular online master class on making a composition from a table bought in Ikea. It is worth noting that the idea is indeed successful, it looks stylish.

Imitation of landscapes and landscapes

The use of houses, stones imitating rocks, miniature bridges makes compositions with succulents charming, but you should not take on such a composition without experience - trial options can be so far from the desired image that disappointment cannot be avoided. In addition to a carefully thought-out composition, preferably in advance and on paper, you will need to invest in high-quality decor, or find natural materials for him, in addition, one should be well acquainted with the selected succulents.

More simple in terms of planting are houses with overgrown roofs:

A little lower, in a picnic basket, is a rural landscape made by a Japanese craftswoman for sale. You can see how finely crafted the details are:

Aquariums and gardens in a bank

Succulents and cacti are great for composing in glass, despite criticism. Should Special attention pay attention to good drainage, because it will be too humid in a glass container for succulents, and lighting - after all, even ordinary glass absorbs light.

Caring for a garden in a jar is periodic spraying, and, of course, it is worth making sure that the room where it stands has clean, fresh air without dust.

And one more important point- the vessel must not be closed.

Petr Lapshin, curator of the succulent collection at IFR RAS, criticizes florariums harshly and notes that succulents are completely unsuitable for growing in glass vessels. Let's not agree with him on everything. Closed glass containers are really not suitable for succulents. However, now there are many vessels that are no less spectacular than closed ones, allowing the succulents to provide suitable conditions for them, namely:

  1. Mandatory periodic drying of the soil.
  2. Good lighting.

In addition, it is worth noting that such compositions are designed to give pleasure, and it does not have to be long. Such a composition is good way self-expression, a great gift or temporary interior decor. In a few months, plants, even succulents, and even under conditions suitable for them, grow and the composition loses its appearance - it has fulfilled its functions, you can plant the plants in other containers, and create a new composition in the vessel.

You can use decorative sand

Such sand is sold, for example, in the Fix Price network, or in florist shops.

The options with sand are simple, they do not require a complex arrangement of plants, but in general, the compositions “behind the glass” are quite complex precisely from a compositional point of view.

How to make beautiful succulents, how to combine? There is a variety of people who can beautifully compose any form without special training, if you are not one of them, then it makes sense to turn to the literature. Within the framework of the article it is impossible to state the basics of composition, so we will simply recommend what to read:

  • David Hession: everything about flower arranging is inexpensive and accessible. The book is focused specifically on arranging cut flowers and dried flowers, but general principles the layout of shapes and lines can be mastered.
  • From foreign exactly on the subject - books by Deborah Lee Baldwin (Debra Lee Baldwin). All about the compositions of succulents. However, they have not been translated into Russian.

Examples of beautiful compositional solutions

Many of them are quite possible to create, based on the principles of arranging dried flowers and cut flowers. Consider: shape, color, size. Start creating a composition by varying only one parameter (for example, plants of the same shape and color, but different sizes), and then move on to the rest (plants of different shapes, colors, sizes). In the photo - compositions from simple to complex:

With the use of marbles.

Living colors

For those who have mastered both the cultivation of succulents and cacti and their arrangement, great possibilities open up for the use of these plants as paints. The color and shape of the plant are like brush strokes. Also, some of these compositions resemble knitting using the freeform technique.

Compositions in a minimalist style

Some of the compositions above may well be called a “collective farm”, however, rusticity, straightforwardness and childish fun, like figurines, are purely a matter of taste. Ultimately, the overall impression is more influenced by the quality of performance. In the video below about creating compositions in natural style- from the Raritetplants channel.

Creating and growing gardens is an interesting and rewarding activity. Grow a garden or equip household plot not for everyone. It takes skill, practice, time and effort. Easier to create DIY miniature potted garden. This type of ornamental gardening is very popular. Creating a mini-garden will not take time and effort, but it will bring pleasure from work and the joy of contemplating one's own creation.

An inexperienced gardener can start with a mini-garden with cacti and succulents. It is not difficult to create compositions from succulents with your own hands.

These plants get along well with each other, unpretentious And require minimal care. In order for the mini-garden in a pot to retain its original structure for a long time, it is necessary to choose varieties that grow at the same rate.

Preparing for landing

Creating a mini-garden in a pot with your own hands requires preparation. For this you need:

  • choose a place;
  • think over the composition;
  • pick up a pot or other container;
  • choose plants;
  • prepare soil and drainage;
  • pick decor.

Location selection

Estimate the distance from which the garden will open in all its glory. The greater the distance, the larger the composition should be.

Cacti and succulents love the sun. Need a straight line sunlight for two hours a day, no less. With a lack of light, the stems of plants are bent.

If the garden is planned to be placed not on the windowsill, then the rule must be followed: the less light, the lower the temperature and drier soil.

Composition

The type of garden depends on the location. If the sides are viewed in the same way, create circular composition in the form of a small slide. If the gaze falls from above, then a flat “lawn” structure will do.

The composition of low succulents of different shapes and colors looks beautiful.

Suitable for windowsill garden asymmetric version with plants of different heights.

Composition style may vary. It is interesting to create a mini-park, lay sandy paths, put benches and toys. You can depict the desert landscape using yellow sand and cacti, or you can create a fabulous winter forest from succulent trees and snow-white decorative sand.

When choosing a pot, consider the size of the roots. Cacti and succulents grow well in small bowls and on dishes.

Gardens look harmonious, where the height of the pot is a third of the height of the composition. However, even in a high ceramic pot they create a unique landscape if they beat off on one side big piece, and ledges of a mountain cascade are made from its shards.

Cascading composition are constructed by placing pots of different diameters one inside the other.

Mini-gardens look great in transparent round vessels, earthenware and porcelain dishes. Use containers made of plastic, wood and wicker baskets. The main thing is to provide for the presence of holes or a thick drainage layer, since the roots of succulents and cacti do not tolerate waterlogging of the soil.

The outer walls of the pots can be additionally decorated, but the color of the decor should have neutral shades. This will emphasize the brightness of the flowers of the garden itself.

Plant selection

Good for a mini garden slow growing varieties. Cacti with flowers and succulents with small leaves are considered ideal.

In a rocky garden, cacti, stone roses, haworthia and sedum will look.

Among the stones on the miniature ones, dense pachyphytum, ovoid pachyphytum and gasteria feel great.

If a garden of succulents is decorated in a park style, then the central element is Money Tree or aeonium arborescens. An excellent accent in the composition of undersized succulents will be the pachyphytum bract.

A mixed garden of cacti and succulents is not recommended to be planted. Cacti need a cool, dry winter to bloom. With frequent winter watering, the tops of cacti are drawn out, and flowers become rare. In succulents, prolonged dryness can cause leaf drop. Instead of cacti, strapelia are added to the composition of succulents, which are very similar to cacti and bloom with large, star-shaped flowers.

Any cacti for a garden in a pot will do. Cacti of different sizes and shapes with flowers of the same shade look great. Ideally, each specimen is best left in an individual plastic pot with drainage holes. This will prevent the roots from intertwining. It will always be possible to easily remove a diseased plant and replace it with a new one. Choose those cacti that grow slowly, give few children and bloom beautifully. Echinofossulocactus, astrophytums and hymnocalyciums are suitable for planting. Mammillaria and Chamecerius Selvestra look good.

Soil and drainage

To create a composition in a pot, you need to purchase a special soil or make it yourself. A substrate of equal parts of leaf humus and sand with small additions of charcoal and expanded clay is well suited.

Expanded clay is more often used as drainage, but when planting in a transparent glass vessel, decorative pebbles and coarse sand are used. In such a drainage, recesses are made for the soil so that it is not visible through the transparent walls of the pots.

Decor

Cacti and succulents go well with natural materials. Suitable for any composition

  • pebbles;
  • shells;
  • pebbles;
  • dry twigs;
  • bumps.

The composition will be decorated with colored sand powders and decorative glass elements.

For the kindergarten landscape style small ceramic tiles, miniature doll furniture, toys and artificial flowers.

Planting and caring for a mini-garden

Succulents are planted freely, at fairly large intervals. This is necessary so that growing, they do not interfere with the development of neighboring plants. Cacti can be planted tightly, but it is better for each plant to pick up an individual small container.

Prepare pots, materials and tools. Before planting, rinse the pot and pan. Used containers and natural elements must be scalded, sand must be calcined.

Landing

Landing steps:

  1. Drainage is laid at the bottom of the tank - pebbles, sand, expanded clay and compacted tightly. The drainage layer is 15–25% of the volume of the pot, but it can be more if planted in a pot without holes.
  2. Pour in the soil mixture.
  3. Planting plants. The root system must be carefully straightened and sprinkled with soil, without falling asleep the root neck. Plants do not need to be watered immediately after planting. This should be done within 2-3 days.
  4. Sprinkle decorative powder. Small pebbles, expanded clay and coarse sand will not only decorate the composition, but also protect it from overheating in the bright sun.
  5. Decorate the garden with large decorative elements.

Care

Caring for miniature plants is not difficult. Compositions of cacti and succulents proper fit and maintenance, they will last 2-3 years unchanged. Water the garden should be carefully and regularly. It is best to do this from a pallet or from a watering can with a sprinkler. It is necessary to direct the jet to large decorative stones so that the water gradually flows onto the soil and does not disturb its structure.

Compositions of cacti require a dormant period in winter. A garden of succulents in summer should be in a brightly lit place, and in winter it is better to move it to partial shade. If direct sunlight, even in summer, rarely enters the mini-garden, it is better to choose plants that tolerate penumbra well: bearberry, swine, haworthia and green-leaved gasteria.

Despite optimal selection, the mini garden of succulents still grows after a while. Transplants and corrections will be required. This is exciting and exciting work. It evokes a flight of fancy and develops creativity. The mini-garden will please for a long time.
