DIY plywood cabinet. DIY plywood cabinet. How and where to order material

Many, in order to save money, have wondered how to make a cabinet out of plywood with their own hands?It is worth noting that the process of its manufacture is quite simple; not only a professional craftsman, but also a beginner can make a cabinet of any size. However, before you start making a cabinet out of plywood with your own hands, you should know some features of the base material (glued veneer), which must be taken into account when working.

Features of plywood

In order for a do-it-yourself plywood wardrobe to last a long time, you should take into account some features when making it:

  1. The cutting method depends on the thickness of the glued veneer sheet. A sheet 2 mm thick is cut with a knife. If the thickness is 2-6 mm use electric jigsaw, if more than 6 mm, then use a circular saw.
  2. Shallow cuts should be made parallel to the cutting line. This is necessary so that the plywood does not crack when cutting cross-grain.
  3. If the glued veneer has delaminated, its layers are glued together.
  4. In order to connect sheets using screws and nails, you must first make holes for them (fasteners). Otherwise, the material will crack.
  5. Before gluing begins, the surface must be treated (cleaned and sanded).
  6. If the plywood sheet needs to be given a curved shape, then to do this it must be moistened in water and left bent for twelve hours.

Preliminary work or where to start

Preliminary work:

  1. Choice of material. If you are going to use a plywood structure outdoors or in a room with high humidity, then choose moisture-resistant plywood. Appearance The future of the product largely depends on the variety.
  2. Do-it-yourself plywood cabinet drawings. You can create a project according to custom sizes, or you can choose from existing options. You should also decide on the number of drawers and shelves. When designing, you should also think about the frame connection (tenon/tongue).
  3. Decide on fasteners. These could be screws, nails, minifixes or glue. You should also think about the fittings: hinges, handles, and so on.

What you need for work

In order to make a cabinet from plywood yourself you will need:

  • jigsaw, knife and saw;
  • electric drill with a set of drills;
  • hammer, file, pliers, screwdriver;
  • furniture bolt wrench and screwdriver;
  • square, tape measure, compass (all this will be needed to create drawings);
  • plane, chisel and chisels.

Working with ends and cutting material - important points

Particular attention should be paid not only to design, but also to cutting plywood. When sawing, make sure that the cuts are even. Otherwise, you will have to spend money on film for pasting, but there is no point.

The ends are covered with PVC edges. It can be applied manually or using a special machine.

How to make drawings

Sketching plays important role when creating any design, including a cabinet.

Process:

  1. First you need to decide on the dimensions of the structure. To do this, use a tape measure to determine the height, width and depth of the niche.
  2. The resulting dimensions are transferred to a sheet of paper. You should get a parallelepiped.
  3. Then you should decide on the size of the shelves.
  4. As for the depth, the best option would be 0.6 m. If the width of the shelf exceeds 0.6 m, then in this case they will need to be further strengthened.
  5. Next you need to decide on the section size. The best option 0.8-0.9 m. As for the number of doors and sections, they should also be carefully selected. Otherwise, it may turn out that the middle shelves will not be accessible to the full width.

The process of making a cabinet from plywood with your own hands

The process includes the following steps:

  • After the drawings are drawn up, two sides of the product are cut out, which will form the basis of the entire structure. A saw is used for this.
  • Then, in accordance with the drawings, the shelves are cut out. Their height depends on what will be placed on them (clothes, books or something else).

Important! If the sheet thickness is less than 16 mm, then the shelves will need to be attached using metal corners. If the thickness is more than 16 mm, then you can get by with grooves. The size of the groove depends on the thickness of the plywood.

  • The groove is made across the entire width of the structure.

  • Assembling the sheathing. First, attach the lower and upper bases to the sidewalls. If you are going to disassemble the cabinet in the future, you should use furniture bolts as fasteners. If you are not going to transport the product, you can connect the elements using finishing nails.
  • Then the back wall (fibreboard) is attached. It should be fastened in the same way as the bases were connected to the sidewalls.
  • All holes for fasteners should be made in advance using a drill.
  • After assembly, the product can be painted in any color you like. You can also use any overlays as decoration. Decorative plugs are placed on the bolt heads.
  • Most often the structure is coated with varnish. However, you can also use paint that will highlight the structure of the wood. Before painting, the product is treated with stain and sanded. This is necessary to get rid of dust. Then the surface is treated with drying oil and sanded again. And only then can you apply paint/varnish.

Additional elements or how to improve the cabinet

For additional convenience You can install sliding doors on caster legs. In order to do this, the doors should be attached at the bottom and top. metallic profile, along which the wheels will move.

Important! Sliding doors are convenient only if the cabinet is wide and large.

Is it worth making your own wardrobe from plywood?

Despite the fact that the manufacturing process of such a design is complex and labor-intensive, the result is a cabinet that fits perfectly into the size of the room.

If you are going to save money on buying a cabinet and have free time, then building such a structure yourself will be a profitable solution. However, if you do not have the skills to assemble furniture, then the work should be entrusted to professionals.

When you move to new house or things simply accumulate that there is nowhere to put, and the need arises to buy a new closet. However, it doesn't come cheap. Therefore, there is another option. For example, try making furniture yourself. For these purposes, you can use various materials: glass, willow rods, natural wood, plastic, metal, fiberboard and plywood. The latter material is very plastic, easy to use and safe for health. For your home, it is advisable to try making a cabinet out of plywood with your own hands.

Features of choice

The material itself consists of flat sheets of different thicknesses. Can be made from veneer (aspen, birch). Plywood is valued by craftsmen because the technology for working with it is very simple. Here are some more arguments in favor of choosing this material:

  1. Plywood will not dry out like wooden boards and bars. This is because, according to its manufacturing technology, it underwent heat treatment and drying. This will help your closet not lose its presentable appearance for a long time.
  2. It is very durable, the thickness of plywood sheets can be taken in the range of 3-30 mm.
  3. Making something out of plywood with your own hands is very convenient. Its finishing surface is smooth, so it does not require additional processing. Just paint it at the end.
  4. The environmental friendliness of the material is also very important.

Job

Before you start working, you should study some of the features of plywood so that you know in advance how to process it correctly. This will help the finished product last for many years.

  1. You need to know the thickness of the plywood sheet in order to cut it correctly. You will be able to cut thin plywood(up to 2 mm) using a sharp knife. For thicknesses from 2 to 6 mm, use a jigsaw, but if the thickness is more than 6 mm, only a circular saw will do.
  2. With a knife, be sure to make cuts or grooves that will weaken. They must be made parallel to the cutting line, otherwise the plywood will crack when cutting across the grain. This is very important when working with multilayer material.
  3. Do not connect plywood sheets directly with screws or nails. You definitely need holes drilled for them. The puff material will crack. When you take plywood, which has soft cores tree species, you will also need washers, which should be placed under the head of the nail or screw.
  4. If you think design solution If you need to bend the material, you should moisten it with water in advance and leave it on the desired blank for approximately 12-14 hours. After this you can develop any unusual shapes for your future closet.
  5. It is recommended to clean and sand any surface before gluing. Then you can apply glue. Try to do this evenly, compress the adhesive parts as much as possible and place the load until completely dry. At the same time, make sure that at the gluing site the fibers of the fragments are parallel to each other. Consider whether you need to protect the finished product from exposure to water, then you will need to use waterproof glue.
  6. If it happens that the plywood begins to delaminate, glue the layers back together. For the layer, you can take plain paper. This sometimes happens due to the low quality of the goods. You just don't need to subject the glued part to serious stress. Use it when you assemble the top cover or back wall.

Carrying out stages

Choose your material carefully. It has many varieties that differ from each other in their properties. Basically it all depends on the glue that is used in manufacturing. If the room has high humidity or the product is intended to be used outdoors, then take plywood with increased moisture resistance. Among laminated plywood you can choose almost any color. Pay attention to the grade, since you will be working with this material.

Select the location where you plan to place the cabinet. This way you can decide on its size. You can choose suitable drawings and sketches or make your own. Record all measurements. Decide how many drawers there will be and what they will look like, what length and number of shelves, what doors will be in the set, etc. Write these and others for yourself important points regarding the appearance and design of the future cabinet.

Design for initial stage includes a decision on how the frame will be connected (there is a tongue and groove connection). You will also need to choose fasteners (what you will use): screws, glue, confirmat, nails or minifixes. Take care of the cabinet fittings, choose hinges, door closers, handles, trim, etc.

Tools and materials

When you have everything you need, you can make an estimate of materials and prepare tools:

  1. First thing you need good saw. It must be submersible, containing a special guide for cutting sheet materials. Therefore, if you do not have such a tool and have nowhere to get it, it is better to turn to specialists for cutting large plywood sheets. Prepare and hand saw or a cutter.
  2. Jigsaw.
  3. Hacksaw.
  4. An electric drill with a set of different drills (you will need special and regular ones) for furniture screeds, as well as countersinks.
  5. Hexagon wrench for furniture bolts.
  6. Everything for accurate and correct measurements (folding meter, square, thicknesser, ruler, compass, tape measure).
  7. Mallet, chisels, chisels, planes - everything for planing and chiselling.
  8. You will need a pneumatic hammer when driving finishing nails.
  9. Other tools that may also be needed (knives, files, hammer, screwdrivers, needle files, pliers, screwdriver, marker or chalk for marks).

If you use ready-made plywood blanks (cabinet doors, walls), then a plunge-cut saw will not be needed. You can also ask for help with the markup experienced craftsmen. And when you get the hang of it, you can do everything yourself. For convenience, it is better to number all the parts. This will help with assembly.

Making a cabinet

If you decide not to resort to someone else's help, start working according to the drawing. Using a saw, cut out the frame of the cabinet from plywood sheets - its two side walls. Then you can cut out the shelves. Decide what you will put on them (books, clothes or other items). Their height will depend on this.

The shelves should rest on the grooves. Therefore, they need to be marked first and then done. To avoid damaging the outer surface of the cabinet, do not drill extra holes, so it will remain beautiful and smooth. However, if the plywood sheet is thinner than 16 mm, then you will need to attach the shelves using metal corners rather than grooves.

The size of the groove itself corresponds to the thickness of the selected plywood. It should be done across the entire width of the cabinet. Mark together the two side panels attached to each other. Then the marking of the grooves will be the most competent and accurate.

If milling is not possible, you can make 2 cuts 4-5 mm deep, and then gouge out the rest using a chisel or chisel.

Assemble the finished frame. First, attach the top and bottom bases to the sides. If it is necessary that the cabinet can be subsequently disassembled (for transportation, for example), then it is worth using furniture bolts for fastening. If you have already moved and are not going to change the furniture, then you can attach it with finishing nails.

Now you need to prepare the back wall of the cabinet. For this you will need fiberboard. After you have cut it out according to the drawings, fasten it in the same way that you chose for the entire product. Remember the rules for working with plywood. Using a drill, prepare holes of the required diameter for furniture bolts and screws.

You can use any decor for the final stage. Construction stores offer a huge range of different decorative overlays. At the end of the work, the plywood must be painted in the chosen color. Decorative caps should be placed on the heads of furniture bolts to make the cabinet look more beautiful.

You can choose a paint that will highlight the wood structure. You can also use varnish on the product. But before varnishing, you need to treat the product with stain and sand it sandpaper to remove all dust. The surface will also need to be primed before painting (you can use drying oil or any other composition). Apply it to the plywood with a brush and rub in the filler with a swab. The primed surface is sanded again. Now you can apply paint.

Plywood is a universal material; its range of applications is wide and varied. But the purpose of our essay is not to describe the priorities of plywood over others building materials, and voice useful recommendations when used for manufacturing home furniture.

Looking ahead a little, I would like to say that there is no piece of furniture where plywood cannot be used, from stools to a serious furniture set or a wardrobe. .

Therefore, we will not waste our time on trifles, but will deal with large-sized furniture. Does a do-it-yourself plywood wardrobe, assembled by yourself, suit you? Then, please, our instructions.

General rules

That's why they exist general rules so that when working with the material:

  • Firstly, do not engage in additional adjustment;
  • Secondly, reduce waste;
  • Thirdly, do not be disappointed in hand made furniture, and not only that.

But seriously, here they are, these golden rules for working with plywood:

  • Thin material up to 2 mm is cut with a knife, from 2 to 6 mm - only with a jigsaw, over 6 mm - with a circular saw. All other options and substitutions are unacceptable;
  • Working on multi-layer plywood is fraught with certain difficulties. The fact is that cutting across the grain of the veneer can cause cracks in the main sheet; to prevent this phenomenon, it is recommended to make parallel weakening grooves or cuts with a knife;
  • Plywood is a layered material that does not like rough mechanical impact. If you decide to drive a nail or self-tapping screw directly into the puff paste, then you risk getting radiating cracks from the point of driving or twisting. For normal work with the material, the place where the part is pre-attached with a self-tapping screw or nail is drilled with a drill of the required diameter;

Advice! When working with plywood sheets Be sure to make allowances for the material. Soft woods that are used in the production of products are easily deformed when the self-tapping screw is tightened all the way, therefore, to maintain the aesthetic appearance of such a connection, we recommend using spacers in the form of washers.

  • When making furniture, especially when developing unusual, individual shapes and abandoning the classic box, there is often a need to bend the material. A striking example is the soft, “blown” forms at the transitions from the end to the façade. In this case, you can easily bend the plywood by first moistening it with water and leaving it on the required blank for 12-14 hours;
  • A few words about gluing. As with any recommendations for gluing two products, the surfaces must be sanded and cleaned before this action. The glue is applied to required quantity on the parts and after compression, the parts are left under load for the entire drying period. It's simple, but here's a small nuance.
  • During the work process, when purchasing obviously low-grade goods, delamination of the plywood is possible. In principle, this is not a big problem, just a minor disappointment. The layers can be glued together using ordinary thin paper as a layer. It is clear that this product is not suitable for serious loads, but, for example, for assembling back wall or top cover can be applied.

About the material and preparatory work

Although plywood is plywood in Africa, not every type of plywood is suitable for furniture production, and note that there is no talk about grades; if you want a first-class thing, don’t be greedy.

  • The point is that in this case we need not just plywood. And laminated plywood, by the way, is a very worthy competitor (as a material) to laminated particle board. We do not intend to compare these two materials. I just want to note that lamination did not affect the financial component of the issue, the price remained virtually unchanged, but the service life of the material and products made from them increased.

Interesting to know! The process of using plastic has minimized the content of formaldehyde in resins and the resins themselves in products. Therefore, this type of material belongs to non-hazardous materials, and some even try to call it laminated plywood environmentally friendly material. But we won’t lie. There are formaldehyde resins there, not much, but there are some.

  • The preparation process includes design, material purchase and cutting. For those who are designing furniture for the first time, the simplest and most correct way out is to take drawings of the finished product and not burden the entire complex with complex mechanical solutions in the form of sliding shelves, secret niches and similar tricks.

If you are not confident in your abilities as a furniture designer, then it is easier to entrust this work to a specialist technologist. The project itself, taking into account your wishes, will not be too expensive.

  • Purchasing and delivery to the work site is not a problem. But cutting is a much more interesting process. Without wasting money on individual recommendations, we issue them in bulk. In the process of marking fragments on the sheet, not only minimize (within reasonable limits, of course) the distances between the parts, but also number the parts.

This can be done with any marker that can be easily removed without leaving streaks. The numbering will be useful to you when assembling the finished product.

Cutting material and working with ends

  • We have repeatedly written about the fact that this is, perhaps, if not the most important, then one of the most crucial stages. The fact is that the clarity of the assembly and, importantly, the appearance of the product depend on the evenness of the edges.

There is no need for you to spend additional expenses on film for pasting; the plywood is already laminated, so why waste extra money. Therefore, we once again offer you and strongly advise you to cut the material in workshops at industrial equipment and without initiative.

  • The ends are covered with PVC edges, which you can glue yourself, or you can use the services of the same workshop where the material was cut. If they have edge banding machine, then tightening the ends will not be difficult, although we repeat, you can easily do this yourself.

To the piggy bank! There are ends in cabinets that get hit more often than others. These are the outer sides and the lower and upper ends of the cabinet. On cabinets with mezzanines, similar end surfaces of mezzanine structures may fall into this category. For them, it is recommended to take a two-millimeter shockproof PVC edge, for everyone else, an edge of half a millimeter is enough.

Sliding systems and cabinet work

  • A cabinet made of plywood with doors on hinges is already an anachronism, not relevant, like “The Song about Hares” in the immortal Russian comedy. Sliding systems on runners with a bottom sliding system, this is what will do.

At the same time, the doors, or as they are called door panels in this situation, may not necessarily be plywood, and even plywood, not necessarily to match the general color, although it is possible to match the general one.

The only recommendation in this situation is that when installing this system, it is necessary to make adjustments to door leaf. Therefore, cutting of the material must be carried out already knowing these errors.

  • Before assembly, make sure once again that all fragments and parts correspond to your idea and your project. And then it is necessary to mark the places where the parts are connected and the fasteners are installed.

We think that it is not necessary to remind you that the marking is carried out on inside product that will be covered. Well, they reminded me, they reminded me.

  • To prepare and drill holes, you can use either a confirmat cutter or two drills of 8 and 4.6 mm. For complete confidence in the clean work of the drills or cutters, make several pen tests on the scraps.

Quite often, drills or cutters have to be sharpened, and sometimes the sharpening angle has to be changed. Several drills are also useful for fixing metal runners. The screw head must fit completely into the prepared cell and not interfere with the movement of the valves;

  • Interesting pitfalls can await a beginner when working with retractable facades. The fact is that many craftsmen (in the old fashioned way) install side shelves and fronts in the first compartment.

In this case, the level of marking of one side part and the insert will clearly differ from each other in distance from the edges. This moment is often forgotten, and then everything has to be taken apart and remade.

Similar materials

To those who wish with my own hands To make a cabinet out of plywood, you need to start by drawing up an action plan. The stages of the carpentry process can be as follows:

  • creation of diagrams and drawings of furniture;
  • selection of material and appropriate tools;
  • sawing plywood sheets;
  • assembly of parts into one structure.

Wardrobe or Walk-in closet can be made from various materials. Most often, craftsmen use easy-to-process natural wood or plywood.

Features of plywood

Plywood is quite durable and pliable to work with. It is safe and environmentally friendly. A plywood panel consists of several compressed layers of different thicknesses.

The material has a number of advantages:

Plywood is durable. It does not dry out or deform over time, since it undergoes special heat treatment and drying during the production process. Furniture made from sheets will retain its presentable appearance and durability for a long time. The only caveat is high humidity. Therefore, wall cabinets and floor cabinets for the kitchen or bathroom are made of wood or other moisture-resistant material.
The strength of plywood is high. The thickness of one sheet can range from 3 to 30 mm. For each type of furniture, the required parameter is selected taking into account the expected load.
With plywood there will be less hassle during finishing. The leaf has a smooth and beautiful surface. There is a wide variety on sale color range material, so you can choose a shade to suit any interior.

Working with the material does not require specific knowledge. When working, you just need to take into account that plywood is a multilayer material. It is important to work carefully here.

Knowing these nuances, making a cabinet from plywood with your own hands will become an exciting and entertaining task, and the finished product will serve in everyday life for many years.

What you need for work

Before you start work, you need to prepare tools and materials:

  1. Depending on the thickness of the sheet, the cutting tool is selected. If the furniture plywood is thin, it can be cut with a carpenter's knife. To work with denser panels, you will need an electric jigsaw or circular saw.
  2. Electric drill. Drills of different diameters.
  3. Hex key.
  4. To take measurements - tape measure, ruler, square, thicknesser, compass.
  5. Planer, mallet and chisel.
  6. Screwdriver.
  7. Hammer, file and pliers.
  8. Nails, bolts and nuts.

Don't forget about markers or crayons. They will come in handy when marking.

Many novice masters self-production plywood cabinets, turn to plywood cutting professionals for help. In this case, the customer’s measurements must be extremely accurate.

How to make drawings

Before drawing up a drawing, you need to decide on the size and type of cabinet. This could be a wardrobe with sliding doors, or a simple hinged wardrobe.

The drawings should show all the parts that make up a simple plywood door or sliding wardrobe. All details are transferred to a sheet of paper in the form of a general design. Above each element its measurements are indicated.

The parameters of all parts must be transferred to a sheet of plywood and cut. From these parts the overall structure will be assembled in the future.

If we take a simple single cabinet as a basis, then its drawing consists of the following parts:

  • back wall;
  • side panels;
  • bottom;
  • shelves;
  • door;
  • lid;
  • strips for fastenings;
  • edge covers;
  • door stand.

Depending on the cabinet model, the number and specificity of parts will be different. Not all elements are made from a board of the same thickness.

Working with ends and cutting material important points

The most important step in the work is cutting the multilayer material. Professional furniture makers prefer to do this using a laser. The appearance of the product largely depends on the processing of the edges.

Perform cutting on laser machine only possible in professional carpentry workshops. If this is not possible, the ends are processed independently.

Working with the ends involves gluing the edges with special PVC furniture tape. Sealing the edges with edging is quite quick and easy.

When working, it is important to consider which parts in the structure will most often be subject to mechanical stress. These ends are covered with a shockproof edge, the thickness of which is 2 mm.

The process of making a cabinet from plywood with your own hands

Let's start assembling the individual parts general design. To avoid confusion in the elements, craftsmen recommend numbering them immediately after cutting.

The diagram can show the connection sequence of each part. The plywood module is assembled within one day. For an experienced carpenter this process takes much less time.

Before you make a cabinet out of plywood with your own hands, you should place in front of you a visual image of the model that was chosen as the basis. This will help not only technically, but also visually evaluate the build quality.

The parts should be put together in the following sequence:

  1. First, the side panels are attached to the bottom and top cover. For this, furniture nails or special bolts are used.
  2. Most often, they use fiberboard rather than plywood for the back wall of the cabinet. You need to make holes in the panel and attach it to the frame with bolts. At the same time, do not forget about the location of the fastening strips in the lower and upper parts of the element.
  3. Special shelf holders are mounted to the side panels. Craftsmen prefer to make a fixed shelf in cabinets, which will carry a large weight load.
  4. From the outside, a frame with crossbars is attached to the frame. Doors will be hung on this structural element.
  5. A protective panel is installed and secured with bolts at the bottom of the cabinet.

The assembly process will depend entirely on the drawing and parameters of the product itself. It is important to properly prepare for this stage and arrange all parts of the structure in the order of their connections. There should be nothing superfluous at hand, but only necessary tools, which will be needed when assembling the cabinet.

What do you do with old furniture?

Poll Options are limited because JavaScript is disabled in your browser.

The closet plays an important role in any interior. It is not surprising that strict requirements are imposed on it: not to take up too much space, to be spacious, to have a sufficient number of shelves and drawers. The models on the market do not always fully satisfy individual wishes.

Owners of apartments with non-standard layouts find it even more difficult to choose an option that fits into the room. In this case, you can order a cabinet from specialists who will take into account all your wishes regarding the design and internal contents.

Unfortunately, this option is not affordable for everyone. Then the best solution The problem will be using your own hands and ingenuity, because assembling a cabinet yourself is not at all difficult!

Preparatory stage

Each room has its own type of construction, so it’s worth familiarizing yourself with the main ones.

A cabinet with a closed front is a straight model with hinged doors. To open them you need to provide extra space, do not forget about this if you are making a closet for the hallway.

A cabinet with an open front has no doors, and its contents are in plain sight. It makes certain demands on order.

The wardrobe doors are mounted on a rail mechanism and open, moving to the sides. There are designs with top and bottom rails; which one to choose is a matter of taste.

Ideal design for built-in wardrobes

A corner cabinet fills a corner. Suitable for any size room, as long as it is square or similar in shape.

Having chosen a suitable design, you can begin to create a project for the future cabinet. Since this piece of furniture lasts for many years, it is worth considering what functionality may be required from it. It is better to build a drawing on whatman paper, recording all measurements there.

Decide on the location and dimensions of the cabinet. If there is a niche in the room - ideal, but if it is not possible to build it in, choose a place where nothing will interfere with it.

Think it over internal filling: location and number of shelves and drawers, their sizes, additional elements like mezzanines or interior lighting.

Don't forget about choice exterior finishing, jewelry. The colors “oak”, “alder”, “beech” are the most popular today. Or you can choose wood with an interesting pattern and leave the original pattern. Get creative and decorate the doors with a carved pattern.

Materials

The material can be natural wood, plywood, MDF or chipboard - all of them are used by furniture manufacturers.

Wood is environmentally friendly, does not require additional decorations, and is convenient to work with. Wooden cabinet will last for many years and will look solid and impressive. An ideal choice for an interior in a classic style.

Plywood consists of glued veneer sheets (birch or trees are used coniferous species). This cheap, practical material is suitable for making almost any furniture. It is best to choose laminated plywood (FOF brand).

Chipboard (chipboard) is the cheapest and most common option. Collecting own closet, this is what they usually use. Short-lived.

Self-adhesive melamine film is also useful for processing the side edges.

The diameter of the rod must be at least 22 mm. The easiest way is to buy it in a specialized store. You can also buy pens there.

Tools

  • Ruler, tape measure, pencil and others for taking measurements and drawing.
  • Level.
  • Jigsaw or hacksaw for cutting.
  • Screwdriver or drill and screwdriver.
  • Glue.
  • Ratchet key.
  • Iron for gluing the edging film.
  • Accessories. Each door opening mechanism has its own kit.
  • Confirmations for the cabinet from Chipboard is better buy 7 cm long with a diameter of 0.5 cm.

Progress

First of all, measurements are taken and a drawing of the future cabinet is constructed. The final result depends on a correctly drawn up drawing, so approach it with all seriousness.

It’s not difficult to make cabinet doors with your own hands, the main thing is to correctly calculate the dimensions. If its vertical height is less than the height of the opening, the door will not completely close it, and if it is more, it will not fit. When finding the horizontal dimension, we must not forget about the fastening elements: they will add a few millimeters to it. The width of the doors should be ~3 mm less than the opening.

Now you need to mark the placement of the fastening bolts on the sawn parts and drill all the holes.

Assembly begins with installing the bottom and attaching the walls to it. Make sure that assembled wardrobe fits into the allotted space and other furniture will not interfere with the opening of the doors. If you are making a wardrobe, the guides are installed at this stage.

The location of drawers and shelves is outlined, shelf supports and guides are installed. They must be strictly parallel to avoid distortion.

It's time to install the top shelves and roof. A gap of ~7 cm is left between the ceiling and roof for the installation of confirmations. Fastening is done manually and finally tightened with a ratchet wrench.

The side shelves are attached to 4 confirmata (two on each side); in some cases, dowels (small wooden cylinders) are used. One end of the dowel is inserted into the cabinet wall, and a shelf is put on the other.

The last step is to install the doors. Before installation, attach the handles with the curve outward. Especially important for sliding doors correct installation mechanism. Take your time, act carefully.

It's time to start the finishing touches. Process the cuts decorative film, decorate the facade. Install mirrors, interior lighting and other elements.

Tricks and nuances

Rely on existing schemes cabinets, designing your own.

A corner cabinet requires more care in design and assembly than a straight cabinet, so it may be too complicated for an inexperienced person.

If you lack experience, it is better to entrust cutting out the parts to a master. His hand will not tremble, and the cuts will be smooth and neat.

To avoid getting a part smaller than needed, consider the thickness of the saw. The wall thickness must be at least 18 mm. Otherwise, the strength of the structure will be insufficient.

While working on the drawing, pay attention to the curvature of the floor. If the floor is not level, gaps may appear between the doors. To avoid this, for swing mechanism adjust the installation canopies, and for a sliding canopy, change the height of the wheels.
