Remove heavy blockage from the bathtub. Eliminate and break through a blockage in the bathroom at home: how and with what to do it? Effective cleaning products

If you notice an unpleasant odor in the bathroom and the water does not drain completely into the pipe, you can rest assured that the bathroom drain is clogged. Let's figure out how to deal with the problem at home, how to remove a blockage in the bathroom.

Exist different ways to get rid of a blockage in a pipe, including folk ones. Before you start fighting the blockage with radical methods and apply chemical substances, it is better to try to break through the drain using simple and accessible means.

Removing blockages using improvised means

  • Boiling water

Heat five liters of water to boiling water and pour it into the drain hole. On early stage This method will help you quickly clean the pipe in the bathroom. If the water does not go into the pipe at all, then you should not use this technique. Plastic pipes should not be washed with boiling water. It is better if the water temperature does not exceed 90 degrees.

  • plunger

The most available device capable of breaking through blockages in the bathroom and available in every home - a plunger. Let's look at how to clear a blockage in a bathroom and get rid of a blockage in a pipe with the correct use of a plunger. It is also useful to use the device to prevent blockages.

  1. Fill the bathtub with water until the rubber tip of the plunger is covered with liquid.
  2. Install the plunger, blocking the drain hole, and apply a little pressure on the handle.
  3. Move the plunger handle up and down without lifting the rubber part of the device from the surface of the drain. After pumping the drain several times, it is better to lift the device a little so that water gets into the pipe. If you need to check whether the blockages in the bathroom were cleared, turn on hot water and flush the drain. If the water passes through with difficulty, it is better to try again.
  • Soda and vinegar

If the pipe is so clogged that water does not even seep into the drain hole, try removing the plug with baking soda and vinegar.

  1. Pour five tablespoons of baking soda down the drain and pour in half a glass of vinegar.
  2. Close the hole with a stopper and wait until the chemical reaction is complete.
  3. Rinse the pipe under strong pressure of hot water.

  • Cable

How to unclog a bathroom if the drain is so clogged that the above remedies do not help? Use a special cable. The device resembles a twisted wire, coiled into a spiral with a handle at the end.

In the case when pipes plastic cleaning the cable must be carried out with special care. It is better to cover the floor near the bathtub so as not to get dirty when removing the device.

  1. Place the sharp tip of the tool into the drain hole. The cable must always be kept taut. Therefore, it is better to do the work together.
  2. To remove blockages in the bathroom, rotate the handle while moving the cable along the pipe. If you feel that you have hit an obstacle, make several movements of the cable back and forth, continuing to screw in the rod. The blockage will collapse or be removed along with the cable.
  3. At the end of the procedure, rinse the drain with hot water.

How to clean a siphon

Often the cause of an unpleasant odor is a siphon that is clogged and has accumulated a foul-smelling residue on the walls. What to do to get rid of unwanted consequences?

  • Place a cloth under the siphon located under the bathtub that will absorb water well. Place a container for dirty liquid on the cloth.
  • Carefully unscrew the nut and remove the flask.
  • After the water has drained, rinse the siphon, removing any debris that has accumulated on the walls.
  • To avoid damaging the water seal, install the flask so that the drain pipe does not rest on it.
  • Turn on the water and check the system for leaks.

The bathroom is one of the most visited places in the house. Constant washing causes waste to accumulate inside the drain. a large number of hair and other organic waste. As a result, a strong blockage forms, and the water does not drain, and in the future an unpleasant odor may appear from the drain. You can unclog your bathroom using simple remedies.

At home, a plunger will help you deal with a clogged blockage in the bathroom. To ensure that there is no air passage, it is necessary to close the upper hole for draining water with a stopper or rag. Vaseline or any greasy cream will help ensure a tighter fit of the plunger to the toilet rim. Then you need to place a plunger on the drain hole and begin to intensively and sharply expel the contaminants to get rid of them.

If using the previous method did not bring any results, then you can proceed as follows. For more effective protection To prevent blockages, you need to fill the bathtub exactly one-third full with water. Using a plunger, pump it into the pipeline and pull it out. The movements should be sharp. It is necessary to continue this procedure until the drain hole in the pipe is completely cleared of contaminants.

Mechanical cleaning using a cable

What to do in a situation where boiling water combined with a plunger cannot clear blockages in the sewer? In this case, the most the right way there will be a cable. Care should be taken, as this device can easily damage plastic pipes and cause them to leak.

To make a cable yourself, you will need a metal flexible wire. Then one end of the cable must be bent to form a small hook. It will be convenient for them to catch debris stuck in the drain hole and pull it out. As for the second end, a piece of fabric should be tied to it, making a handle.

You need to carefully insert the cable inside drain pipe and try to push through the accumulated dirt. For better cleaning, you can rotate the device clockwise. Then you need to pull out the cable with the remaining debris.

To completely remove the clog, you need to flush the drain with a strong stream of boiling water from the shower or tap. This method is one of the most effective today. This is what most plumbers use.

Soda for minor blockages

Baking soda combined with baking soda will help you deal with a small clog in the bathtub without a plunger. For this:

  • pour 125 mg of each product into the drain hole;
  • pour soda and salt with 3 cups of boiling water;
  • do not use the bathroom for 7 hours;
  • After this time, the drain should be washed hot water.

One of the most popular ways to remove debris from a drain hole with improvised means is to use soda and vinegar. These components react with each other and effectively remove the blockage. For this procedure you will need acetic acid 70% (200 ml) and 3 tbsp. l. soda

Be careful when working with vinegar as it is very easy to get a chemical burn. Soda is poured into the drain and poured acetic acid. Then you should wait 40-50 minutes and carefully clean the drain with boiling water until the foam from the soda and vinegar disappears completely. It should be remembered that this method will only help destroy organic waste. If the bathtub is clogged and needs to be cleaned of inorganic contaminants, then it is best to use a cable, a plunger, or store-bought products.

Other effective ways

If the bathtub is not too clogged, you can use lemon. To do this, squeeze the juice from three medium-sized citrus fruits into the drain and wait 40-60 minutes. To get more juice, you can first keep the lemons in boiling water. After this, you need to flush the drain with very hot water. Thanks to this method, not only the debris in the bath is eliminated, but also the unpleasant odor.

Video - proven cleaning methods:

You can remove dirt in the drain hole with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a backflow function. The action of this method is based on the use of strong air pressure. Experts do not recommend using this method, as water may get into the vacuum cleaner. If you nevertheless decide to remove the blockage in the bathtub using this method, you should wipe the rim of the drain hole dry. Then attach the vacuum cleaner tube, previously wrapped with a rag, to the drain and turn on the reverse blowing.

What to do if traditional methods do not help?

Chemical products that are sold in hardware stores will help you quickly and effectively get rid of clogged debris. They are designed to remove organic contaminants (hair, pet dander, food debris, etc.). They resort to their help when it is impossible to cope with a clogged bathroom using folk remedies.

In what form is it best to purchase household chemicals? Despite the fact that such drugs are sold in the form of foam, powders, gels and granules, they all have an almost identical composition.

The following tips will help you clean a heavily dirty pipe:

  • it is very important to read the instructions before using chemical clog removers;
  • experts recommend choosing solvents in order to remove blockages based on the nature of the pipe (for example, plastic or cast iron);
  • Both powder and liquid preparations have the same effectiveness, so it does not matter which type of preparation will be used to clear a severe clog in the bathroom;
  • Clogging solvents in liquid form are immediately poured into the drain, and granules or powders are poured out, and then boiling water is poured into them;
  • After the drug has run out of time allotted to it by the instructions, you need to thoroughly rinse the drain with a stream of hot water.

It is also very important to use rubber protective gloves when working with such chemicals.

Measures to prevent contamination in the bath

In order to prevent contamination in the sink or bathtub drain, it is necessary to devote time to preventative procedures. Their implementation will not take much time, and the tools that need to be used can be found in every home.

To water pipes are not contaminated with waste, and there is no situation where water does not drain well, it is necessary to cover the drain holes with special nets for protection. This device will help minimize the entry of food particles and other organic waste into the drain.

  1. Accumulated debris should be dissolved at least once a month. This applies even to situations where the blockages are not yet too large and water flows freely into the sewer. This procedure will prevent the formation of traffic jams. It can be carried out using products sold in the store (Mole, Tiret Turbo, etc.).
  2. Regular laundry detergent can replace such chemicals. To prevent blockages, it is necessary to close the drain holes of the bathtub and sink every 4-5 months. After this, pour a handful of powder and add very hot water. After 5 minutes, the plugs must be removed. This method will also help get rid of the unpleasant odor from the drain.
  3. To prevent blockages from appearing for a long time, you can pour boiling water from a kettle over the drain hole. This procedure should be carried out within 2–3 minutes.

It is also very important to remove any hair caught in the drain after each shower.

Sewage systems can become clogged not only in apartment buildings, but also in private homes. Inner side pipes accumulate fat deposits, soap scum and other debris, which serves as a barrier to the passage of water. There are many ways to clear a clog in the bathroom or kitchen, and also minimize the likelihood of a similar problem in the future.

Causes of blockages

Pipes can become clogged for the following reasons:

Effective Cleaning Methods

To remove a blockage in the bathroom, you can use one of the existing methods:

  • Pressure cleaning - in this case a classic plunger is used.
  • Mechanical - debris is removed by disassembling the siphon or using a plumbing cable.
  • Chemical - plugs are dissolved using industrial products, which contain aggressive chemicals.
  • Thermal - you can remove the blockage using hot water pressure.

The choice of method depends on the material from which the pipes are made. Plastic products can be damaged by boiling water or rope, and use chemicals can only be carried out in strict compliance with all manufacturer’s recommendations.

Cleaning with a plunger

The plunger remains an easy-to-use, affordable and popular tool when the need arises to resolve a blockage in a bathtub, toilet or sink. This is a device in the form of a handle (plastic or wooden), one side of which has a rubber nozzle. Under the influence of its pressure, the debris accumulated in the pipes begins to move along them and collapse. Using a plunger, as a rule, it is possible to get rid of blockages; they are freely brought out and removed.

But to clean the pipes like this simple device, you need to use it correctly:

When using a plunger, it is extremely important that the water level in the sink or bathtub does not exceed the rubber valve. Remove remaining blockages and achieve best result repeating the procedure will allow.

Household chemicals

There are many ways to clean bathtub and sink drains, but one of the most popular is to use household chemicals. With its help, it is possible to effectively break through all blockages without replacing parts. The advantage of these tools is that they do all the work themselves; a person does not need to make physical efforts.

These products have different consistencies: foam, gel, powder and liquid, and they can also cost differently. The principle of their use is simple: the required volume of cleaning agent is poured or poured into the drain and left for a certain time, which should be indicated on the label. After this time, you must turn on the water, which will ensure proper flushing of the pipes.

The use of any chemicals requires attention. It is unacceptable for them to get on skin or mucous membranes (all work should be carried out with protective gloves). In addition, it is not recommended to allow the product to come into contact with chrome surfaces.

To avoid clearing blockages, you should regularly carry out preventive procedures using household chemicals: a small amount of chemical liquid or gel is poured into the drain hole, and then hot water is turned on to flush the pipes.

Siphon cleaning

Replacing parts is a last resort; in most cases, cleaning the siphon is sufficient. The algorithm of actions should be as follows:

This method of cleaning is recommended to be carried out regularly for prevention. Washing the siphon every 2-3 months will minimize the formation of foul-smelling deposits on its inner surface, which cause an unpleasant odor in the room.

Using boiling water

If a clog in the sink takes you by surprise, you can use a simple and often effective way cleaning pipes - with boiling water. The effectiveness of the method lies in the fact that under the influence high temperatures dissolve fat, which causes most blockages.

First of all, it is necessary to assume the scale of the problem: if water has accumulated in one place, then the blockage is local in nature, and when water is in all drains, then the blockage is considered to be global. The solution to this problem is to clean the entire sewer system, but for a local one, it is enough to clean one pipe.

Boiling water can only be used if the plumbing system is made of metal pipes. The principle of operation is very simple: you need to heat up to 4 liters of water, and then send it to the drain. If necessary, cleaning is repeated. To achieve the desired effect, it is recommended to use a plunger or brush.

You should refrain from boiling water if water accumulates on the surface of the bathtub or sink. It should be taken into account that boiling water simply cannot affect the problem area. In addition, you should be careful not to get scalded. For plastic pipes You can use hot, but not boiling water.

Metal cable

Garbage accumulated deep in pipes is unlikely to be eliminated using household chemicals, boiling water or a plunger. In this case, it is recommended to resort to using a plumbing cable. This cable is characterized by the appearance of a thick twisted wire, one side of which is equipped with a drill, and the other with a handle. The length of the cable reaches no more than 10 meters, which is quite enough to clear the blockage. Please note that this device is suitable for combating contamination of metal pipes only.

To successfully carry out cleaning, you should use the following recommendations:

Use of folk remedies

Time-tested folk remedies will help remove blockages in sewer pipes. Such procedures for removing blockages are easy to perform, environmentally friendly and do not require large financial costs, since the active ingredient is ordinary soda. Why not check the effectiveness of the product on own experience if the bathtub is clogged.

Let's take a closer look at how to clear clogs at home:

  • Table vinegar and soda should be prepared in 1:1 proportions, but no more than one full glass of each component.
  • First you need to pour soda into the drain hole, and then pour vinegar solution on top.
  • The drain is closed with a stopper and left at rest for at least 3 hours.
  • After this time, the pipes must be thoroughly rinsed with boiling water.

Many sources will tell you what to do if a pipe in the bathroom is clogged. Based on reviews from household members, aromatic lemon is an effective folk remedy. To remove the blockage, you will need to purchase several large citrus fruits and squeeze the juice from them into the drain hole (it is important that the seeds do not get there). Leave it at rest for at least 1 hour, after which you can begin using the bathtub or sink as usual.

As a result of errors in design, installation, operation sewer system the user often needs to remove a blockage in the bathroom at home on our own. For this purpose, a chemical, mechanical or hydrodynamic cleaning method is used. Plumbing fixtures are additionally equipped with special devices - siphons; inspection fittings are installed in pipes and risers.

Sewage system in country house and the apartment is designed together with water supply. Two or three rooms with these engineering systems– separate/combined bathroom and kitchen have common system water supply and sanitation.

Typical scheme sewerage in the apartment.

Blockages can form due to improper operation of any of the plumbing fixtures. There are several categories of causes of sewer blockages:

In the kitchen, food waste of small and large fractions inevitably enters the drainage system through the sink. This water intake point is usually farthest from the sewer riser located in the toilet. For small volumes of water and slope angles of horizontal sections internal sewerage the liquid does not have time to carry this waste into the riser.

There is an accumulation of organic matter in the pipes, up to a blockage, which the user will have to clear with improvised means. In addition, organic matter begins to be processed by bacteria. Pipe obstruction can occur in any area between the riser and the kitchen sink connection point. As a result, the functionality of any plumbing fixture in the kitchen, combined bathroom, bathroom or toilet may be impaired if kitchen sink connected to the sewer before the bathroom.

Cleaning methods

Due to operational features, the drainage system under the bathtub or in the shower stall most often becomes clogged long hair, which are not corroded even by concentrated acid. Hairballs accumulate in the siphon or downstream outlet. The siphon of a plumbing fixture is designed to solve several problems:

The design of siphons allows you to create a water seal in front of the plumbing fixture - a column of liquid impenetrable to sewer gases, but at the same time makes cleaning difficult.

You need to start getting rid of blockages as soon as possible. simple ways, then move on to more complex ones if the previous one did not produce results.

Hydrodynamic

plunger

The simplest method of hydrodynamic flushing is considered to be a plunger; it helps to cope with blockages in 95% of cases:

  • We fill the bowl of the plumbing fixture with water, approximately up to the middle of the plunger bulb;
  • install the tool above the drain hole shower tray, sinks or bathtubs;
  • plug it with a wet rag and press the overflow hole with your hand;
  • with a sharp downward movement we press the handle of the plunger, then just as sharply we pull up and so on several dozen times;
  • water together with air, located inside the rubber plate of the tool, performs a hydraulic shock, which breaks through the blockage plug.

It is imperative to seal the overflow hole of the bathtub or sink, otherwise it will not be possible to create a water hammer, the air will simply escape through the hole.

The previous method will help if the blockage is located up to the junction of the bathtub/sink with a common pipe, as shown in the picture above. If the blockage is located after connecting two appliances (see the figure below), in this case you need to close the overflow holes of both the bathtub and sink at the same time, as well as the drain hole of the sink or bathtub, or use two plungers at once. For this you will need an assistant.

Evidence that the blockage is located below the sink and bathtub is the squelching of water in the sink siphon when using a plunger in the bathtub.

There are three types of plungers to solve different problems, differing in design:

  • standard – rubber cup-shaped suction cup;
  • toilet - at the bottom the suction cup narrows;
  • piston – large-sized hand pump with a rubber cuff to match the diameter of the plumbing drain hole.

Vacuum cleaner

If you have a washing vacuum cleaner, but do not have a plunger, you can try to break through the plug with it, but the kit should include a special attachment. The vacuum cleaner must be connected for blowing.

The main difficulty lies in sealing the connection between the hose of a household electrical appliance and sewer pipe. For this, a rubber coupling, sleeve, or hose of suitable cross-section is used.

High pressure devices

For hydrodynamic flushing of drainage system pipes, a high-pressure apparatus and a special hose tip are used:

  • one jet is directed forward strictly in the center of the nozzle, blurs the blockage high pressure water;
  • several jets of a spherical head hit the reverse side at an angle of 30 - 45 degrees, clearing the pipe walls of dirt behind you.

The operation is very dirty, so it is used only for external, storm, drainage sewer systems and pipes roof drain, flushing risers multi-storey buildings that are difficult or impossible to disassemble for other cleaning technologies. Not applicable inside apartments and houses.

Mechanical

Hooks, devices

Often the siphon in the bathroom becomes clogged with long hair; you can try to remove a tuft of hair without dismantling the siphon, using improvised means or special devices.

Hair is removed using tweezers, pliers, or a wire hook.

The industry produces several types of special devices:

Disassembling the siphon

If you cannot remove the blockage using the previous method, you can disassemble the siphon and wash it manually, this is done as follows:

The cable needs to be pushed forward while twisting it in any convenient direction; rotation allows you to wind the hair that has accumulated in the pipe. After cleaning with a cable and assembling the siphon, you need to remove the remaining dirt using a plunger.

Cable

Deep blockages and “overgrown” pipes, which could not be broken through with a plunger, are removed using special plumbing cables, they can be either manual or in the form of an attachment to a screwdriver or drill.

The algorithm for clearing blockages inside the drainage system using a cable is as follows:

The method is considered the most effective, but it has a serious drawback - if the pipe is clogged with a plug made of a viscous substance, the diameter of the hole in the blockage will be slightly larger than the thickness of the cable. Over time, you will have to repeat the operation.

The industry produces plumbing cables of various lengths, diameters and several types of ends.

Chemical

All modern means for chemical cleaning of internal sewage systems are divided according to the following criteria:

  • state of aggregation – powder, liquid;
  • chemical composition – acidic, alkaline.

Acid preparations are available in the form of powder or granules and are used in one go. They destroy hair and organic matter, but are unable to cope with fats, soap scum, and oils.

An alkaline product, on the contrary, neutralizes and dissolves soap film, oil, grease, but is powerless against clumps of wool and hair. It makes no sense to mix an acid with an alkali, since the result will be water with precipitated salts, according to the laws of chemistry.

That's why universal remedies does not exist, the following algorithm of actions is used:

  • Little grease usually gets into the drains from the kitchen; recipes with alkali are more effective;
  • hair and animal hair more often accumulate in pipes after plumbing installed in bathrooms; acidic agents are used here.

When mixed with water, the chlorine-containing product Tiret forms an acid that decomposes organic matter and hair.

The composition of the drug Mole includes caustic soda, when mixed with water, an alkali is formed and a large amount of heat is released. This allows you to wash away fats and oil films from internal surfaces pipes, destroying blockages from these materials. In addition, caustic soda destroys organic matter and paper.

However, with all the power of modern chemistry, these products are ineffective, for the reason that they weakly interact with the very place of the blockage or growth on the pipes and quickly flow into the sewer. In order to create a significant concentration, you need to pour these products in liters every hour during the day, which is very expensive. Greater efficiency chemicals appear in siphons, but the design of siphons is collapsible, so it is easier and cheaper to remove the blockage using the methods described above.

Folk

Under folk ways Elimination of blockages involves exclusively chemical recipes of means that can be used to destroy the plug formed in the pipe. Initially, a mixture of soda and vinegar was used. However, this method has the following nuances:

  • soda can be baking soda (NaHCO3) and caustic soda (NaOH);
  • baking soda reacts with dilute acetic acid to release carbon dioxide CO2, water H2O and sodium acetate CH3COONa without heat;
  • Caustic soda - caustic soda - is itself a strong chemically active substance that dissolves organic matter; it does not need to be mixed with vinegar.

Caustic soda is not sold in stores because it is stored and used according to special regulations. That substance is not an improvised means.

Spilling boiling water over the sewer system also does not bring a noticeable effect - first the pipes and the waste remaining inside them heat up. When a blockage is reached, the water temperature reaches no more than +50°C, which does not help soften and wash away the fats that caused it.

Traditional methods, like chemical ones, are not very effective, but they don’t hit the wallet as hard.

A few words about shower trays

The main problems in operating a shower stall are:

  • frequent location of the drain hole near the wall;
  • lack of access to the internal sewerage tee;
  • major sealing of the pallet without the possibility of dismantling (especially homemade ones).

Because of this, access to the siphon is blocked and it is impossible to disassemble it. Therefore, it is advisable to use special shower drains whose internal filling is removable, which allows access to the pipe and can be cleaned with a cable.

Demountable shower drain.

Preventing blockages

When preparing an internal sewerage project, it is enough to fulfill 7 conditions:

  • continuous uniform slope of 1.5 cm per 1 linear meter sewerage from the farthest plumbing fixture to the riser;
  • location of sockets horizontal pipes towards the flow (assembly from the riser), with the exception of couplings with double-sided sockets;
  • diameter of pipes or corrugations from 40 mm for bathtubs, sinks, showers, sinks, bidets, from 110 mm for toilets, from 50 mm for horizontal sewer sections;
  • connecting plumbing with oblique tees with a slope of the upper pipe in the direction of flow of the drains;
  • availability of audits for cleaning;
  • the use of siphons under each plumbing fixture with the exception of toilets and shower drains.

During operation, it is necessary to ensure compliance with the following requirements:

During installation, it is necessary to maintain the slope of the horizontal sections and use brackets to prevent pipes from sagging. In bathrooms of buildings that are used seasonally or temporarily, it is better to use dry water seals, since the liquid in standard siphons can dry out with infrequent use.

Thus, there are several ways to clear a clogged internal drain. In most cases, a plunger or hook will help you, in others - a cable. Other methods are not very effective.

Advice! If you need bathroom renovation specialists, there is a very convenient service for selecting specialists from. Just fill out the order details, the experts will respond and you can choose who to collaborate with. Each specialist in the system has a rating, reviews and examples of work, which will help with the choice. Looks like a mini tender. Placing an application is FREE and does not oblige you to anything. Works in almost all cities of Russia.

If you are a master, then go to, register in the system and you will be able to accept orders.

If the water in the bathtub or sink does not drain, it means that a plug has formed in the pipe or siphon. Most often it is formed by hair, particles of rags, animal hair, and construction waste. If the blockage is not too deep in the pipe, it can be successfully cleared at home: with a plunger, cable, brush, or improvised means. Severe congestion is corroded by household chemicals, and only in extreme cases you have to contact a plumber.

Important
IN apartment building the whole thing may be clogged sewer drain. In such a situation, it will not be possible to cope with the problem without the help of a specialist.

How to determine the degree and location of the blockage. You need to check how the water flows in another plumbing fixture connected to the same riser as the bathtub. If it’s equally bad, it means the main pipe is clogged. If there is no drain only in the bathtub, it means that the drain is clogged, and it is easy to clean it with your own hands.

First assistant - plunger

The design of the device and the principle of operation are extremely simple:

  1. The rim of the rubber part is lubricated with Vaseline to seal the joint.
  2. Fill the bath with water until it rises to a quarter of the rubber bowl.
  3. Plug the water overflow hole with a plug or other plunger - this is necessary to create a vacuum in the cleaning area.
  4. Cover the drain hole with the bowl of the plunger, ensuring a tight fit.
  5. Press firmly and sharply on the handle several times, acting like a piston and creating hydraulic pressure in the pipe.
  6. Then the plunger is jerked off, causing the broken plug to come out piece by piece or fall further down the pipe.

Advice
Active, jerking work with a plunger causes water to move in plumbing fixtures connected by a water pipeline. To prevent splashes, which are not always clean, you need to cover all drain holes.

To clear the blockage, it takes from one to 10 cycles; if there is no result or it is insignificant, you need to move on to another method. Otherwise, there is a high risk of damaging communications.

Effective mechanical cleaning with a cable

If you were unable to clean the pipe with a plunger, you will have to use a more effective device - a plumbing cable. To break through the resulting plug, the end with the tip is inserted into the drain hole, and the cable is immersed by rotating the handle.

When it hits a lump of dirt, a back and forth movement is performed. This way you can loosen the dense lump and pick it up - the main part of the blockage is pulled out along with the cable. To consolidate the result, it won’t hurt to push the remaining dirt in the pipe with a plunger and rinse the drainage system with hot water from a tap or shower.

This work cannot be called clean - sewer dirt is pulled out along with the cable. We need to get ready for unpleasant odors and that the cable should be cleaned , removing dirt from it. You need to wear gloves and a mask when working; such measures will help avoid infection.

Advice
Working with a plumbing cable requires skill, so experts advise beginners to work with someone who will help rotate and guide the cable.

We use improvised means

Compound folk remedies is selected according to the basic principle of action of chemicals - so that the product has the property of dissolving a clod.

Practice has shown that soda is quite effective in removing blockages from pipes.. Half a pack of soda is poured into the water drain hole, waited for up to 10 minutes and filled with hot water. Enough for light congestion baking soda, for the stronger ones they take linen, in difficult cases- caustic.

Important
Caustic soda (caustic soda) is a toxic and flammable substance; it must be handled strictly with gloves and a respirator.

Another quite effective but gentle way is to use baking soda and salt.:

  1. Pour 125 g of soda and salt into the drain hole.
  2. Pour boiling water (3 cups).
  3. Do not use plumbing for up to 7 hours (while everyone is at work or at night) so that the composition will corrode the blockage.
  4. Rinse the drain with hot water.

A more aggressive method is the acid-base reaction of soda and vinegar.:

  1. Pour 4 tbsp into the hole. l. baking soda.
  2. Pour in a glass of vinegar.
  3. To make the mixture more effective, close the hole.
  4. After waiting 10 minutes, pour 1 liter of boiling water.
  5. After some time, rinse with a stream of hot water.

Lemon can help with mild congestion.. The method is truly effective for removing unpleasant sewer odor:

  1. Squeeze the juice from 3 medium lemons.
  2. Pour into the drain hole.
  3. Allow up to an hour for the acidic liquid to dissolve the mud ball.
  4. Spill with hot water or boiling water.

Unlike kitchen clogs, the formation of which involves fat, and it dissolves well in an acidic and hot environment, bathroom clogs are more associated with hair, textile debris and animal lint. Products made from improvised substances do not always allow you to get rid of lumps with such a composition - they poorly dissolve or do not dissolve hair and lint at all.

We remove blockages with chemicals

Store-bought products are concentrated alkali or acid that eats away the blockage. Apply different classes Cleaners are possible, but you need to rinse off the previous product with water and wait about an hour. Otherwise, an active reaction will damage communication.

The main advantage of household chemicals is that it quickly dissolves the plug and additionally removes build-up from the pipe walls (salt deposits from water and soap). Have store products and disadvantages:

  • you need to work with an aggressive drug with extreme caution so as not to harm your health;
  • the components of the selected product can have a destructive effect on the pipeline, therefore, when purchasing and before use, you need to take into account the material of the water pipes in the house, and when using it, strictly observe the concentration.

To clear blockages:

  1. The product in the required quantity is poured (poured) into the hole for draining the water.
  2. Add a little water to the dry cleaner.
  3. Let the reaction end (the time is usually indicated on the package, on average - 2 hours, less for preventative cleaning, more for severe blockages).
  4. Rinse with water from an open tap.

Advice
It is enough to prevent blockages once a month.

  • domestically produced liquid “Mole” at a budget price;
  • gel Deboucher(Russia) with an optimal price-quality ratio;

Brushes and hooks

These tools, one from the kitchen, the other from a knitting basket, are used to clean the drain. If the blockage is visible through the grate, it is carefully picked up or cleared. You don’t need to make any special efforts, you should be careful not to damage the drain grate and not to let the tool fall into the pipe - they even recommend tying a thread or fishing line as a safety net.

A hook (crocheting or simply bent from wire) is indispensable for removing wound hair, threads, etc. from the grille. The tool is especially relevant for double gratings, typical for modern systems plum. With the same tool, it is sometimes possible to pull out a small plug that has formed close to the hole. However, it is useless if the pipe is clogged with paper or other decaying debris, and if the blockage is deep.

Prevention

You will have to deal with blockages much less often if you follow a few simple rules:

  • Do not wash construction utensils and tools over the bathtub, or pour glue, paints, etc. into the drain pipe;
  • It is not advisable to empty the floor bucket into the bathtub or wash shoes over it - this quickly spoils the enamel and clogs communications, dirty water it is better to send it to the toilet (if there is good water pressure in the house) or to the street (for example, in a private house);
  • When taking a shower, washing your hair or bathing your pet, you should close the drain hole with a special mesh that will catch most of the hair and hairs that fall into the bath;
  • when washing by hand, you also need to either install a grate on the drain, or pour dirty water into the toilet so that the smallest threads, lint and fluff from the fabric do not clog the relatively thin pipe under the bathtub;
  • the catcher on the drain must be regularly cleaned of accumulated debris, otherwise the effectiveness of the device will be reduced to zero: the grate will float up and allow hair, fluff, etc. under it.

If a pipe is clogged, don't panic. Turn off the water, take out the brush, plunger and cable. Try each of them in turn. If the water still does not go away, use folk or store-bought anti-clog remedies. Most likely, the problem will be solved within two to four hours, and you won’t have to call a plumber. And in order to encounter traffic jams less often or not at all, take extremely simple but effective preventive measures.
