Do-it-yourself brazier made of metal gas cylinder. Do-it-yourself brazier from an old gas cylinder. Drawings and diagrams

Fresh air and the beautiful surroundings help to relax and recharge, especially if you enjoy home-cooked dishes, such as shish kebab or grilled vegetables. Successful culinary delights will help you gain confidence in your own abilities and inspire you to new feats, for example, they will tell you how to make a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands. And if you turn on the imagination during the assembly of the barbecue, you can get a unique part of the decor. Using the drawings, you can build such a structure using improvised materials: a pipe and gas bottle.

Barbecue is a favorite option for cooking on coals.

      All braziers can be divided into three types:
    1. Transportable.
      Barbecue, which is comfortable to take with you on travel. It does not take up much space in the car, and does not require a lot of time for assembly and disassembly.
    2. Portable.
      At times more than the previous one, the possibility of moving it over short distances is allowed. Suitable for suburban areas.

  • Constant.
    Barbecue, which is built into the foundation.

Raw materials for the construction of barbecues are very different. The permanent ones are often built of stones. Transportable or portable are smelted from aluminum or steel.

      When buying a brazier, carefully look at these aspects:
    • Heat resistant material;
    • The material must retain heat;
    • Size according to your needs.

Experimenters have discovered a huge variety of options, the creation of which involves a variety of raw materials. Among them, not the last place is occupied by a brazier from a gas cylinder.

Production technology

Tools

          Before starting the assembly of the brazier, it is necessary to collect all the necessary tools:
        • Angle Grinder;
        • Drill;
        • Gas cylinder with a volume of 50 l.
        • hinges;
        • Steel pipe;
        • Welding;
        • Aluminum studs.

To implement the idea of designing a barbecue, you need to select the material of production. The foundation will be a gas cylinder with a length of 610 millimeters, a volume of 27 liters, a diameter of 292 millimeters and a wall thickness of more than 3 millimeters. In order to save money, used cylinders are used, in this regard, it is necessary to carefully inspect the cylinder for damage.

For the production of legs, it is better to use a steel round pipe. In addition to the barbecue, you can make a grill net by cutting the blank according to the internal parameters of the barbecue.

Preparatory process

When cutting a gas cylinder, be careful and strictly follow the instructions. Gas vapors may have been retained during use. In order to finally eliminate them, you need to put the cylinder upside down and unscrew the valve. To make sure that the gas is escaping, lubricate the valve hole with soap, which will foam at the outlet, and you will be able to make sure that the process is running.

Fill the balloon with water to destroy the remaining gas.

When filling with liquid, use a hose for greater comfort. Shake the bottle as it fills with water until it is full. It is recommended to rid the cylinder of water as far as possible from the house. Only after that you can proceed to disassemble the cylinder.

It is important that this procedure is carried out by two people. The first person must cut the tap, and the second pour water on it so that friction does not cause ignition.

Work should be carried out in open space. We saw off the valve with a grinder. We remove the paint with a grinder and inspect the base for damage. Insignificant marriage is processed to complete disappearance without a significant change in thickness. After that, we put the balloon on the ground and draw a line along which we will later cut the container.

Detailed instructions

We cut the container.

Using an angle grinder, we cut the balloon in half - we use one part as the base of the barbecue, and install the other as a cover. You need to cut along the junction line or as far as possible nearby. The thickness of the walls of the cylinder in almost all cases is no more than three millimeters, in connection with this, the division procedure will not be too difficult, this can be done with a grinder. The main thing is to cut very carefully so as not to spoil the flank rings that are intended for the cap - as a result, we will have the perfect support for our barbecue.

The side faces should not be removed so that the draft does not extinguish the fire in the fire you create. After using a drill, we make several holes on the base and sides in order to make light ventilation.

We kindly ask you to observe safety precautions when carrying out all these procedures! It is necessary to wear some protection on the hands and face. To prevent deformation during sawing, the cut line is watered.

Installing the legs.
The next step is to install the legs on our future barbecue. It is necessary to firmly substantiate the structure on the ground, so that after that it is easy to put the cover on. Select the length of the legs, focusing on its possible movement, as well as based on personal needs. Based on this, we can conclude that an acceptable height is 20-30 centimeters. If possible, you can attach legs from a sewing machine or steel pipes. To attach the pipe, you need to make four small holes in the base of the barbecue, in which to place the bolts with the threads from the outside. They can be melted or screwed with nuts.

Cover installation.

The barbecue cap is mounted on hinges, which are fixed with studs, and then welded to the base. You have the choice to make the hood portable with one way awnings. Welding of loops is a mandatory procedure, since under the influence of high temperatures the rivets fall off. The holder for the cover, on the contrary, can be fixed with bolts. The handle must be made of heat-resistant material. With the help of a corner, it is possible to make a limiter for the cap. A chimney can be installed in a separately made hole.

Final details.
It is necessary to make recesses for skewers on the end side. Their number depends on the height of the container. A comfortable distance is 25 centimeters.

The brazier over time under the influence of high temperature can change shape, to avoid this, you can weld the corner to the edges. It helps to increase the stability of the perimeter. Holes are made at the base of the brazier so that the ashes are not removed by hand.
The final step is painting. This item is carried out depending on personal interests.

Smokehouse - barbecue

The main distinguishing feature of the smokehouse is airtightness. The assembly technique is exactly the same as described earlier, with the only moment that, in addition to the main structure, we attach a combustion chamber or a firebox in another way. In this case, cut off half of the lower part - this is the department for the furnace. The combustion chamber itself is made from sheets of iron or from a smaller cylinder. The final oven is attached to the barbecue. The necessary part of the smokehouse is, which you can buy in stock or do it yourself. Before you start smoking food, it is necessary to calcinate with firewood until the traces of gas are neutralized.

"Locomotive"
The structure, called the "locomotive", includes several devices at the same time: a brazier, a smokehouse, a barbecue and a grill. It is made from a small number of containers, each of which performs a specific mission.
Visually this design really resembles a steam locomotive, in particular, if you think about its design. An auxiliary building is equipped with various functional trifles, which can also play the role of decorations. On one brazier-steam locomotive, it is possible to perform actions with several parts at once: fry meat on the brazier, cook vegetables and smoke food.
It is recommended to paint this barbecue with heat-resistant paint, since the heat in the locomotive can exceed 700 degrees.

With a little effort and time, it is possible to realize the most ingenious, and sometimes even strange, ideas. From the simplest balloon, create a bright component of your patio. We wish you success!

Brazier from a gas cylinder It's pretty easy to do, following the instructions, and it won't take long. The main thing is to be able to handle the welding machine and have the skills to work with tools.

Owners country houses or dachas know that a mandatory attribute used during the holidays is a brazier. Due to the small dimensions of this element, it is simply not convenient for many to fry in them. The cost of large models is correspondingly considerable, so not everyone can make such an acquisition.

In order to save money, as well as to dispose of things that have failed, you can use such a part as an old gas cylinder. This item is quite in demand, as it has a finished shape and its thick walls do not burn through. After small changes made carefully, such a design can not only be beneficial, but also decorate the landscape of the site.

How to make a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands

Before you start making a brazier from a gas cylinder, you will have to prepare the right materials that will be needed during work:

Old 50 l cylinder;
Bulgarian, electric drill, welding machine;
Spanners;
Metal pipe, lid hinges, handles, rivets.

Instruction:

1. Remove residual gas.
2. Determined with the size of the cover, cut it out.
3. Fix the parts, install the structure on the supports.
4. Make a chimney and holes for skewers.

Gas cylinder preparation

After all the tools are assembled, the balloon should be cut. Do it right: remove leftovers liquefied gas and condensate. Therefore, you will need to open it carefully with a gas wrench to bleed the gas, and turn it upside down to remove condensate. You can control this process with a foam made from soap, lathering the valve opening accordingly.

Then water is poured into the balloon for several days, which will displace the remaining vapors. This is easy to do: just remove the faucet, connect the water hose and fill the bottle with water under a slight pressure. It is necessary to drain the liquid away from buildings to prevent the spread of an unpleasant odor.

Then you need to cut the valve. Do this together with an assistant, which will avoid heating and sparking. One saws, the other pours water into the cut. After preparing the balloon, you can sequentially create a brazier, based on the instructions below and using the diagram.

markup

As you can see from the diagram, there will be two parts: the main and the cover, so the balloon will need to be marked before cutting. From the sides, the walls are left higher so that the wind cannot inflate the coals during frying.

Next, draw a cut line, stepping back 2 cm from the weld, which connects the bottom and the balloon itself, and outline the lines. We find the longitudinal seam of the cylinder: we retreat from it on both sides 24 cm and mark the places where the lid will be and where to make transverse cuts.

Balloon cutting

A grinder makes a cut in a horizontal plane. This must be done as carefully as possible and try not to damage the side rings, as they will be used to support the cover.

Construction assembly

After the above steps, we got two parts that need to be connected together - this is the bottom and the lid.

Cover attachment

The lid is attached to the main part using a drill and hinges. To do this, drill holes in the bottom and install hinges. Their number is chosen at will, the main thing is to place them at the same distance from each other. This can be done using rivets or bolts. It is better to weld the hinges to the cover, which is necessary for the strength of the connection.
So that the lid can be fixed open, a limiter should be welded between the hinges: a steel strip bent to the side.

You also need to take into account important nuance- the hinges must be in the same direction, which will allow you to remove this part if necessary. You can come up with an additional accessory - a handle for the lid, fixing it with screws in front. For greater comfort during use of such a design, it is worthwhile to provide a limiter that prevents the lid from opening open.

We create supports

We create a frame to avoid deformation of the brazier during use. To do this, a metal corner must be welded along the entire perimeter of the base of the cylinder along the cut line.

The dimensions of the shelves are 30x30 mm. Thanks to this element, the design will:

Have extra strength;
protected from temperature deformations;
fasten to the legs;
equipped with skewers or a grate that are installed on it.

You need to weld the corner without gaps, for this you will have to press it to the base with clamps. Legs for support can be made from the same corner or tubes and welded in the corners of the frame. In order for their design to stand firmly, it is better to strengthen the legs with additional corners, connecting them together.

How to improve combustion

In order for the frying process in such a barbecue to proceed correctly, you should take care of constant flow air. The required ventilation can be arranged if holes with a diameter of 10-16 mm are drilled at the bottom of the base in its back part in any order. 10 pieces will be enough.
In the place where the cylinder tap was located, you can cut a hole for installing a chimney in it.
Also, cast iron grates can be laid out at the bottom for additional ventilation. During combustion, they will become hot and less fuel will be needed.

Brazier from a gas cylinder: nuances during operation

To make this design as effective as possible, you should pay attention to the nuances:
Steel plates should be welded to the junction of the base and the cover in order to obtain an even distribution of heat.
At the bottom, a structure is made of reinforcing bars for reliability. In this case, the distance from coal to food should be 16 cm.
You can attach a thermometer to monitor the temperature.
Use a container under the food to prevent fat from getting on the coals.
Shelves from an old refrigerator are suitable for the lattice, they can be welded to each other.
At the end of the work, you can paint the brazier so that it fits perfectly into the style of the summer cottage.

Summer is the season for picnics, which cannot be imagined without kebabs and grilled vegetables. There are many ways to prepare dishes in nature, which require a barbecue. You can buy a finished design in the store or place an order in the workshop. But it is better to make a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands. So you can get an exclusive product that meets the stated requirements and personal preferences.

Barbecues are made from propane or oxygen cylinders having high quality metal. They are characterized by solid standard sizes, regular geometric shape, good capacity, the ability to arrange a large number of skewers. The height of the structure can be adjusted to the height of the owner, which cannot be obtained from factory models. This will enable a person not to bend while cooking meat, but to stand straight.

Experienced craftsmen can, using their own imagination, using welding, fittings and metal, create unusual products, which will become original decoration the exterior of a country house or cottage, which is clearly proved by the photo of barbecue grills from a balloon.

The design of such a product is easy to manufacture. It is enough to carefully study the drawing of the brazier with your own hands from a balloon and, with minimal skills, create a design. This option is the most budgetary. After all, the product is made from an old unusable cylinder, so the basis of the design will be free. Estimate how much a brazier made with my own hands, can be based on the cost of additional components of the structure.

Since the gas cylinder has thick walls, the finished structure will be able to withstand great pressure and high temperature without the risk of deformation of the product. Therefore, the service life of the brazier increases. In addition, the bottom does not burn through during prolonged contact with an open fire, which means that after cooking there is no need to fill the product with water. If you make a brazier with hinged lid, it can be left outside without fear of the negative effects of precipitation. In addition, a brazier with a lid can be used as a home.

The structure can be completed additional elements which will increase its functionality. The brazier from a cylinder is easily transported and installed on another place.

Among the shortcomings, the following can be distinguished:

  • due to the large dimensions, the design may not fit into the interior of a small courtyard;
  • the brazier has a significant weight, so two people will be needed to move it;
  • the design has limited space for logs, so it is better to use coal as a raw material.

This will make it possible not to wait too long until the firewood burns out and enough space is freed up for placing skewers.

Brazier from a gas cylinder: design options

From an old gas cylinder, you can make several options for barbecues:

  • traditional design without cover and with it;
  • B-B-Q;
  • smoker;
  • smokehouse.

The last three varieties differ from the classic type of barbecue. Barbecue is represented by a simple design, consisting of a part of a cylinder, inside of which there is a grid for placing products and an area for coals. The cut off part of the balloon will act as a lid and be hinged.

There is a firebox in the smokehouse. In order for the structure to cope with the task, it must be airtight. To do this, half of the bottom of the product is removed. A firebox is made of metal sheets and welded to the main structure. A chimney pipe is attached to it by welding, which helps to remove smoke from the smokehouse. After the construction is completed, it should be heated several times with firewood and only then proceed to smoking.

Helpful advice! For the manufacture of the firebox, you can use another cylinder.

The most complex and multifunctional construction is the smoker, which is also called a steam locomotive. For the manufacture of the structure, you will need several cylinders, each of which will perform its function. This device combines the capabilities of a barbecue, barbecue, smokehouse and grill.

Necessary tools and materials for making a brazier from a balloon with your own hands

The basis of the design is a gas cylinder measuring 96 cm long, 30 cm wide, with a volume of 50 liters. You can also create a brazier from similar product 80 l, which has an increased diameter, which contributes to increased comfort during ignition. Such a product is characterized by good capacity, allowing you to use the entire length of standard skewers. This greatly facilitates the process of cooking barbecue for a large company.

The structure should not have external damage that contributes to the formation of small foci of corrosion, which, under the influence of open fire and high temperatures, will turn into holes. After some time, such a fate will befall the entire structure. Even if the brazier is covered with heat-resistant paint, all defects will be found. Holes can be welded, but it will spoil appearance products.

Helpful advice! To create a small mobile barbecue, you can use a traditional 27 liter cylinder.

Before you make a brazier with your own hands, you should prepare the following materials and tools:

  • electric drill with drills for metal;
  • welding machine;
  • clamps for fixing metal components;
  • pipe wrench;
  • grinder;
  • hammer;
  • chisel;
  • screwdrivers;
  • electrodes with a diameter of 4 mm;
  • cleaning and cutting;
  • scriber;
  • nozzle-brush for a drill;
  • sprayer or brush for further coloring the product;
  • metal pipe with a diameter of 100 mm for the chimney;

  • elbow with a radius of 900;
  • door hinges;
  • metal corner;
  • metal handles that will be attached to the lid;
  • grill for creating a barbecue;
  • fasteners in the form of nuts, rivets, bolts;
  • priming;
  • paint;
  • solvents;
  • various decorative elements.

Preparatory stage before disassembling the cylinder

Before you properly make a brazier, you should prepare a balloon. It is necessary to remove the remaining gas from it by unscrewing the valve with an adjustable water wrench and a steel pipe used as a lever. Removing the fitting on the cylinder is quite problematic, since it is securely soldered to the body. To prevent the container from turning, a stop corner should be attached to its bottom.

At the junction of the valve with the body, you can apply a "vedeshka" and wait a few hours until the thread sags. The procedure is only required for outdoors, away from potential sources of fire and other places where ignition may occur.

Helpful advice! To make sure that the cylinder is empty, the valve should be soaked soapy water. If it bubbles, then the gas is still coming out.

After the cylinder is completely empty, it is recommended to turn it upside down so that all the accumulated condensate is poured out. Next, the container is filled with water, which helps to displace all vapors and residues. To do this, the water hose is connected to the installation site of the tap. Water should be supplied under low pressure. This simple operation helps to prevent dangerous situations associated with the disassembly of the product. The tap is put in place, and in this state the structure remains for 2-3 days to remove all odors.

The optimal size of the brazier: marking

While the water is in the cylinder, marking is carried out according to a previously developed drawing of a brazier from a gas cylinder with the indicated dimensions. Usually, a product with a volume of 50 liters with an outer diameter of 96 cm is used for the barbecue. The dimensions of the barbecue from a gas cylinder are: length - 98 cm, width - 30 cm, height excluding legs - 30 cm. This design is enough to cook six servings of shish kebab.

Marking is convenient to carry out from the longitudinal seam. The diameter of the gas cylinder is divided into four equal parts - 24 cm each. This value is laid off from the seam on both sides. To the right and left of the circular seams, 3 cm recede, and marks are made every 8 cm. Thus, 6 marks are obtained for the future placement of skewers. Holes with a diameter of 1 cm are drilled in them.

Helpful advice! Despite the fact that the brazier from the cylinder is a simple product, you should at the initial stage make a small drawing of a brazier from a gas cylinder with dimensions and an indication of the points of attachment of individual elements.

From the line on which the markup was carried out, 10 cm is laid up, i.e. from the middle of the seam, 34 cm is obtained. In this place, the brazier cover will end, which is marked in the next step. It occupies the distance between the first drawn line and the one just marked. A straight line is drawn between them, stepping back 3 cm from the circular welds. Also, they are moved 10 cm down from the initial marked strip for future fastening of the legs, which should be placed parallel to each other.

Helpful advice! If metal rings are located inside the product, the cut should be made in such a way that they are not damaged. They may become the support of the lid in the future.

How to make a brazier with your own hands from a balloon: a sequence of actions

Based on the markup, the product is cut. You can study the process in detail on the video "Barbecue from a gas cylinder with your own hands." To do this, it is recommended to use a grinder or gas cutter. The cut should start from the middle and move towards one of the edges. The grinder disc must be kept perpendicular to the balloon. Since the product has a large wall thickness and the sawing process occurs with great intensity, in order to avoid premature burning of the disc, it is recommended to cut in some places not completely. Such areas can subsequently be eaten with a chisel.

When cutting the balloon, it is necessary not to reach the circular seams by 3 cm. Having made a cut along one line, the loops should be welded. If you cut off the cover completely, the action will be more difficult, since the cover will have to be fixed at the same distance, which will be inconvenient for one person.

To attach the hinges, clean and sand seats. The elements are fixed with rivets and welded. Next, proceed to the installation of fasteners. After that, the cutting of the cylinder along the lines is completed. In this case, the lid will rotate, but not fall. Water from a bottle to this stage can be drained. It is recommended to do this away from residential areas, since methane has a pungent odor that lasts for several days.

When making a removable cover, care should be taken that it does not fall inward. To do this, metal strips are welded to the transverse edges of the product.

So that the lid in the open position does not break out the hinges, leaning back, it is necessary to weld a piece of the corner between the hinges along the cut line. Its width can be 3-4 cm. Such stops are made on both sides of the lid - left and right. By unbending the corners, the distance required to open the lid is adjusted. It is chosen in such a way that when closing this element, it is not necessary to lean forward to get the handle.

How to make a brazier from a gas cylinder: handles and holes for oxygen access

The next step is to weld the handle. It can be of any kind and be made of various improvised materials that are resistant to heat. The most primitive option is to weld a piece of concave reinforcement in an appropriate way. In this case, it is advisable to attach a piece of wood to it so that you can grab the handle. Such a part can be attached to the product using bolts.

To prevent the lid from falling inward, it is necessary to weld a metal strip 2-3 mm thick and 3-3.5 cm wide from the inside to the cutout around the entire perimeter of the product. Holes with a diameter of at least 1 cm are drilled on the previously applied marks for holes for skewers. products (opposite each of the holes) cuts are made to the welded plate, which are necessary for installing skewers.

The next step is to make slots for air to enter the bottom of the product. This must be done because the construction of the structure is closed. And this means that coals and firewood will burn badly in it without oxygen. To do this, the brazier should be turned upside down. From the seam is deposited 10 cm in both directions. A distance of 10-12 cm is measured from the resulting lines. Thus, longitudinal stripes of a given width are obtained. Slots are made across the strip every 5-7 cm for air to enter. The strips can be replaced with holes, but they will require a large number, which will take a lot of time.

It is not recommended to make holes in the bottom of the cylinder. Firstly, the factory seam should not be touched - this can lead to a decrease in structural rigidity. Secondly, at the bottom, any holes are clogged with fat mixed with ash and ash. In the future, such a mixture can clog holes and impair air flow.

The final step is to cut the tap and weld the resulting hole. Also in this place it is possible to provide a metal pipe to remove smoke and ventilate the brazier in the closed state. The brazier is ready, it remains to attach legs to it. You can see all the stages in detail on the selection of photos “How to cook a barbecue”.

Making legs for barbecue from a gas cylinder with your own hands

Do-it-yourself legs for a barbecue from a gas cylinder - the photos clearly confirm this - can be made from any material: fittings, a profile or round pipe, a strip of thick metal. Corners or pipes are sawn into four parts about 50-70 cm long. The elements are welded to the body in previously marked places at the same distance from each other so that they form a regular rectangle.

At the ends support legs it is necessary to weld square metal plates, thanks to which the brazier will be more stable on the surface. You can also use two metal profiles connected in parallel to two other legs at the bottom of the product.

When making legs from sheet metal two strips 40 cm long and 20 cm wide should be cut. The ribbons are bent in the form of an arc along the diameter of the product. Legs are welded to their ends. Further, to create the necessary rigidity and strength, each pair of legs is attached below to each pair of legs. cross bar. Between two racks a corner is welded with a length corresponding to the value of the product.

popular and simple option for the legs can serve as a design from sewing machine. The brazier can be mounted on wheels, which will make it easy to move it around the yard.
If for legs use profile pipe, then they will look like an inverted "T", and they can also be welded to the middle of the product. You can make a support in the form of a frame with a shelf at the bottom for placing firewood, coal, bowls, etc.

A good option is to make legs from rebar and a round pipe. In this case, you can get a portable design. Pieces of pipes of the required diameter are welded to the brazier body, into which reinforcement bars of the required length are inserted. You can, on the contrary, weld pieces of reinforcement and put pieces of pipes of a suitable diameter on them. However, it should be noted that when moving the barbecue, the legs may fall out. Therefore, it is recommended to cut threads for them. Manufacturing various options supports can be studied on the video "Barbecue from a gas cylinder: manufacturing of support structures."

Painting a brazier from a propane cylinder

To paint a barbecue, smokehouse, brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands, you should use heat-resistant paint, since the possible temperature in the brazier can reach 800 0C. Painting should protect the metal from the effects of corrosion and temperature changes when it comes into contact with a hot body cold water. When heated, the coating should not emit elements harmful to human health and enter into a chemical reaction with other substances.

Before painting, the surface of the gas cylinder is cleaned of old paint. The procedure can be carried out using sandpaper or a special metal nozzle for a drill. Further, the entire surface is degreased with a solvent, acetone or alcohol and coated with a primer. Heat-resistant enamel before application should be mixed well until a homogeneous state is obtained. It is necessary to remove all clots and sediment from it. In case of too thick consistency, the paint is diluted with a small amount of thinner.

The paint is applied by sprayer or brush in several layers until a smooth and beautiful surface is obtained. Each layer must dry completely before applying the next. The ambient temperature must be above 20°C.

The most popular heat-resistant paints are acrylic mixtures in cans. With a unique composition, they are safe, effective, quick-drying and durable. Also, the paint is characterized by anti-corrosion properties. It is sprayed at a distance of 20 cm and applied in several layers, each of which dries for 2 hours. The palette of shades is quite wide, but the most popular are silver and black.

Brazier from a gas cylinder: photo of product varieties

Using the instructions for making a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands, which you can buy ready-made from experienced craftsmen, it is not difficult to make a barbecue. To do this, a corner is welded along the long side of the body of the product. The result is a shelf on which a lattice welded from reinforcement bars will be located. Convenient option there will be a division of zones in the barbecue grill with a net and places for skewers. You can also create a stationary brazier. To do this, small tables from the corners are welded on the sides and front of the structure.

An alternative to coloring is the stylization of the brazier under the "antique"

Another design option from a balloon is to create a brazier-smokehouse with your own hands. In this device there is an additional element in the form of a firebox. To create it, strips are cut from the bottom of the cylinder, then half of the bottom is cut out. Thus, a place is obtained for organizing a firebox, which is made of dense metal sheets 2-3 mm thick and welded to the bottom. The result is a one-piece hermetic structure, which is clearly shown in the photo of the smokehouse.

It is also necessary to organize a chimney here. It can be purchased at hardware store or made from a gas cylinder of smaller diameter. It is recommended to improve the design and install a motor that will rotate the skewer with meat, which can be seen in the video “Barbecue-smokehouse with your own hands from a gas cylinder”. Drawings, photos, of which there are a large number of Internet, will also help to complete the design and get a multifunctional building.

Another unique structure is the brazier-steam locomotive. The design is made of several cylinders of different diameters, barrels and main pipes. Such a product combines a barbecue, smokehouse, barbecue and do-it-yourself. The structure is complemented by forged elements that give the structure an original and aesthetic appearance.

Using imagination and a creative creative approach, you can make a brazier in the form of a pig, a dog, a house and even a submarine, which is clearly demonstrated by photos of braziers from a gas cylinder with your own hands.

How to make a brazier from car disks

Brazier from car discs combines barbecue, smokehouse, hob and a grill from a gas bottle. metal structure can be made from old rims from the car. You should take those that are made of solid steel, not aluminum alloy.

Brazier from car rims performed different ways. For the simplest design, one element is enough. From it is cut inner part, forming a container similar to a bowler hat. If there are too large holes in the bottom, a metal plate must be provided. However, the holes should not be completely closed, as the coals must be blown through to maintain heat. From the sides of the bottom you need to weld the legs from the pipe.

On such a grill, you can fry not only shish kebab strung on a skewer, but also barbecue. To do this, the structure should be covered with a metal grate. It would be more appropriate to make it removable. For the convenience of moving the brazier, handles are welded symmetrically on the sides of the structure. To maintain the heat on the side of the disk, you can make a window.

To cook the brazier more complex design, you will need two disks of the same size. A partition is cut out on one of them with the help of cutting torch. The elements are placed on top of each other and welded around the perimeter. The partition of the second disk is the bottom for the first. It will be convenient to have a kettle here. In the lateral part of the lower disk there is a window for throwing firewood.

Another option that deserves attention is the welding of two elements to each other, in which the middle is pre-cut. In the side part of the structure, a window is made through which firewood is fed into the firebox. The upper part of the structure is equipped with a grill that turns the brazier into a barbecue.

How to make a brazier from a barrel and a pipe

To create a brazier from a barrel, you will need a container with a volume of 50-60 liters with a diameter of 40-50 cm. The product must have a wall 2-3 mm thick. From the barrel, you can create two braziers. To do this, the product should be cut in half.

The manufacturing process of the structure is similar to the creation of a brazier-smokehouse from a gas cylinder. Only the dimensions of the product will differ, on the basis of which marking is performed for future cutting. However, on preparatory stage no need to fill the container with water. In the side part on top should be cut round hole under the chimney, and below - for ventilation.

A good solution is also to use another barrel mounted on the side cover as a pedestal, where a full-fledged smokehouse is organized. To create a design, you can use the drawings found on the Internet.

Helpful advice! A 27 l gas cylinder can be attached next to the barrel, which can be used as a place to store coals.

The structure is often made from metal pipe. This is a more time consuming option that needs to be used additional material. To create the walls of the structure is used a metal sheet. If a smoke exhaust pipe is provided, its diameter should be 70-100 mm.

Important! Do not use a fuel barrel for barbecue. The specific smell cannot be eliminated by anything.

Today you can buy a ready-made brazier from a gas cylinder, the average price of which is 5,000 rubles. However, a homemade design will be even cheaper and can last for many years with proper operation and proper care. Having equipped with additional elements a brazier from a gas cylinder, which you can buy in specialized stores, you will get a multifunctional facility for smoking, grilling and barbecue. A creative approach to product design will create original design able to decorate the site.

Making a brazier, grill, barbecue, smokehouse with your own hands from a gas cylinder: video instruction

This homemade product will be useful to absolutely all lovers country rest- from a conventional cylinder, which is used in the LPG system (gas-balloon equipment) of a car, you can make a very convenient and practical barbecue for cooking barbecue.

A car gas tank is slightly different from a standard propane tank - in particular, it does not have a valve with a narrow neck at the top. Instead, it has a wider mouth on the side.

Main stages of work

First, a door must be cut in the gas cylinder. For convenience, you can use car kickbacks, with which you can securely fix the cylinder on the floor of the garage or workshop.

After that, we take the cord and measure the circumference of the gas cylinder - then divide the resulting value in half and subtract another 50 mm. The standard diameter is within 95 cm, respectively, you need to divide this number by two (we get 47.5 cm, and subtract 0.5 cm). In the end, exactly 47 cm comes out - this will be the size of the door.

Then we glue the masking tape along the contour and proceed directly to cutting the door. Be sure to leave a couple of millimeters in the corners (that is, do not cut out the entire door completely) to make it more convenient to weld the hinges.

As for the loops themselves, you can buy factory ones in the store or make them from a piece of pipe and steel round timber, if you have a lathe.

We bring the grill to mind

At the final stage of work, when the loops are already welded, we make slots for skewers at a distance of 6-7 cm from each other and 4 mm wide. Also with reverse side gas cylinder, it is necessary to make holes with a 12 mm drill.

Holidays outside the city, whether it is a summer cottage or a picturesque glade in the forest or near a pond, very often involves cooking barbecue. Of course, for this you can get by with a few bricks and a couple of metal crossbars, but the real pleasure of cooking meat on skewers can only be obtained next to a convenient and practical barbecue. A solid construction can be made from thick sheet metal. If there is no such thing on the farm, then you should not rush to the construction market. An excellent device for cooking meat can be built with your own hands from an ordinary gas cylinder.

Features of a brazier made on the basis of a tank for liquefied gas

Cylinder for domestic gas is an excellent basis for many improvised designs. Good solid metal, a practically finished form and several standard sizes make it possible to obtain a potbelly stove, an indirect heating boiler, an autoclave and other equipment necessary for the household with minimal labor. The thick walls of the liquefied gas container can withstand high temperatures, so it is the best suited for making a smokehouse, barbecue or barbecue. Other advantages of the design are also known:

A brazier built from a tank for household gas has practically no drawbacks. Some consider large dimensions to be a minus, but what prevents them from taking a smaller cylinder, for example, 27 liters? The negative aspects include perhaps the semicircular shape of the bottom, which is not very convenient during the ignition of firewood. On the other hand, with this configuration, the coals will be closer to the edges of the skewers. Due to this, the outer pieces of meat will be better baked, which, when cooked on a traditional rectangular roaster, often remain raw. Experts believe that the spherical walls of the brazier are not entirely suitable for cooking barbecue, as they interfere with processes that help the rich aroma of baked meat “open up”. In the future, we will touch on this issue, revealing the secret of how to avoid the disadvantages associated with the round shape of the bottom.

Preparatory activities

Before picking up a welding machine, you need to pick up a gas cylinder and prepare it for work, draw up a rough sketch of the future barbecue and stock up essential tool and materials.

Which bottle can be used

For the manufacture of barbecue suitable for any gas cylinders cylindrical shape. The best option is a fairly roomy and most common 50-liter container for household propane-butane. If you want to get more mobile and lightweight construction, which can be transported in the trunk passenger car, you can take a standard cylinder of 27 liters. It should be borne in mind that the width of the working space of a portable barbecue may not be enough due to the spherical shape of the sidewalls.

Gas cylinders are made of high-alloy low-carbon steels 30XMA, 45, 34CrMo4, 30XGSA. High content alloys and a decrease in the number of alloys in the metal makes the alloy more durable and improves anti-corrosion properties.

An ideal option for a stationary barbecue would be a car gas cylinder of 50–80 liters. It has an increased diameter, so it will be much more convenient to kindle firewood. In addition, such a vessel has a high capacity. Its width makes it possible to use the entire length of a standard skewer, and this will allow you to cook dinner for a large company. The only caveat is that finding an unnecessary car gas tank will not be easy, and buying a new one will not be financially feasible.

Gas cylinders are made of high-quality alloy steel with a thickness of 3 or more millimeters, so even if the container has been standing in the open for a long time, it is likely to be usable. If the vessel is very rusty, then you should not waste time on it - it will not be difficult to find a workpiece in good condition.

How to protect yourself from an explosion

Even if the valve of the used container is completely unscrewed and the gas does not come out of it, do not rush to take on the grinder. Despite the fact that inside the cylinder the pressure was equal to atmospheric pressure, most likely, unsafe substances remained in it - propane-butane and condensate. The latter is drained by turning the vessel upside down, and in order to completely remove the explosive contents, the cylinder is filled to the top with water and left for several hours. Only after this requirement is met and the liquid is drained, you can start cutting and welding metal.

Schemes and drawings

The brazier from a gas cylinder is so simple construction that does not require careful design. Nevertheless, at the preparatory stage, it is recommended to draw up a small drawing or sketch of the future structure, indicating the dimensions of all its elements. This will make it possible to determine how much and what kind of rolled metal will be required, and will also allow you to properly plan individual processes. Perhaps the drawings and diagrams presented in our gallery will help you in working on the barbecue.

Materials and tools necessary for work

In addition to the gas cylinder itself, you will need:

  • pieces of steel pipes and corners;
  • metal handles for the lid of the barbecue;
  • door or furniture hinges;
  • pipe with a diameter of 100 mm with a 90-degree elbow, if you plan to install a chimney;
  • grill, which will be needed for barbecue;
  • bolts with nuts or rivets.

In addition, you should prepare decorative elements designed to refine the structure, as well as the primer, paint and solvent that will be needed to paint it.

If we talk about tools, then we are sure that everyone who is interested in the issue of building a home-made barbecue will find them:

  • welding transformer or inverter;
  • angle grinder - angle grinder (colloquially "Bulgarian");
  • electrodes Ø3–4 mm;
  • cutting and cleaning disc for angle grinder;
  • electric drill;
  • a set of drills for metal work;
  • clamps for fixing metal parts;
  • long metal ruler;
  • scriber;
  • core;
  • adjustable and gas key;
  • set of wrenches.

If, after manufacturing, the brazier will be painted, then additionally prepare a brush attachment for a drill or grinder, as well as brushes or a spray gun with a compressor.

Installation work is best done in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. The place where the assembly will be performed must be fairly even, otherwise it will not be possible to ensure the correct geometry of the structure and the brazier will be unstable.

When carrying out locksmith work, it is important not to forget about the safety rules, be sure to use protective equipment and overalls.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. Unscrew the valve. To do this, use a gas or adjustable wrench. Sometimes shut-off valves so strongly sour that there is no way to turn it off. In this case, the tap can be cut off with an angle grinder. Using the same tool, they cut off the lower support rim - with it the design will look unaesthetic.
  2. Mark the cutting points. The diameter of the 50-liter propane-butane tank is 960 mm, which allows it to be accurately divided into four parts. It is convenient to take a longitudinal seam as a reference point. Putting the balloon on flat surface, from the welding line in both directions, measure a quarter of the diameter - 240 mm and apply horizontal markings that will divide the cylinder in half. An indent of at least 30 mm is made from the attachment line of the upper and lower parts of the vessel, after which circular lines are drawn. The distance between them is divided into equal intervals of 80-100 mm, on which the skewers will be laid. After that, mark the lid of the barbecue. Its length should be less than half the diameter, so 100 mm are measured from one of the longitudinal lines towards the horizontal weld. A parallel drawn strip will indicate the place of the cut.
  3. Having installed a cutting disc on the "grinder", they cut a line that divides the diameter of the cylinder in two. After that, the slot is marked into equal parts and the loops are welded. Their number can be from two to four (depending on size). After that, the cover is cut out along the circular marks, as well as the longitudinal line, which is located at a distance of 140 mm from the horizontal seam.

    Do not rush to cut the entire cover at once. Subsequently, this will entail a lot of inconvenience associated with its correct orientation, setting gaps, etc. It will be problematic to do this without an assistant. If the loops are immediately welded along the line of the first cut, then in the future it will be possible to save a lot of time and nerves.

  4. In order for the upper door to be held in the desired position and not to break the hinges when tilted, limiters must be welded along the cut line. You can make them from 20–30 mm pieces of a steel corner with a shelf width of 40–50 mm. Fixing stops are mounted on both sides - this will avoid distortion of the cover.

    The distance at which the door will recline can be changed by unbending the latches to the required angle. At the same time, a position is chosen in which it will be possible to easily reach the handles of the lid, without leaning forward much, and at the same time will not allow the structure to spontaneously slam shut.

  5. In order to prevent the door from falling inward when closing, a limiter must be welded around the perimeter of the circular cutouts. To do this, a strip 30–40 mm wide is cut out of sheet steel with a thickness of 1–3 mm. It is attached from the inside of the balloon with an interrupted seam.

    Instead of limiters, you can use a chain segment desired length, welding it with one end to the barbecue, and the other - to the lid.

  6. Below the loops, a series of drillings Ø12–14 mm are made for skewers. Previously, these places were marked along the dividing line of the diameter. Slots or triangular cutouts are made on the front wall opposite each hole, on which skewers will be placed.
  7. Mount handles for opening the lid. For this, factory products with overlays made of wood or refractory composites are best suited - they will not allow you to get burned. In extreme cases, the handle can be made by bending a piece of metal bar or reinforcement in the form of the letter “P”.
  8. At the next stage, holes are cut in the bottom of the brazier for air to enter the combustion zone. To do this, the structure is turned over with the lid down, measured from the longitudinal seam 100-120 mm in each direction and horizontal lines are drawn. Setting aside 100 mm from these marks, strips are obtained, in which cuts are made every 50 mm. Drilling can be done instead of slots. In this case, holes with a diameter of 10–12 mm are made in a checkerboard pattern.

    Cutting through the bottom for air supply is impractical for a number of reasons. Firstly, this will weaken the weld, which makes the structure more rigid, and secondly, the holes will quickly become clogged with fatty deposits mixed with ash and ash, and will cease to fulfill their functions.

  9. The hole for the valve must be welded. If the brazier is also planned to be used as a smokehouse, then the opening is expanded to the diameter of the chimney. After that, a chimney is welded to the cylinder.

On this, the main part of the work is considered completed. It remains to install the brazier on the legs and ennoble interesting decor or just paint the structure with heat-resistant paint.

Installation of supports for barbecue

There are several options for installing the brazier on legs, which is facilitated by the rather thick metal of its body. The first and easiest method is to weld four pieces of steel pipe or angle directly to the hull. Of course, the attachment points must be carefully verified, and in the process, use a square and building level, otherwise the design will look askew and untidy. Everyone makes the height of the brazier for themselves, but there is also a standard recommendation - the distance from the ground to the plane of laying the skewers should be no more than 1 m.

It is worth noting that the method described above cannot add presentability and convenience. If you want to get a stylish, practical structure, then for this you need to make a frame-type support. To do this, a pair of side racks is made from a profile metal pipe 20x20x2 mm. In its upper part, a semicircular bed is welded from a metal tire, curved in the shape of a cylinder. Between themselves, both parts of the structure are fixed with the same metal profile so that a kind of underframe is obtained. The balloon is placed on the prepared bed and tacked by welding. In order to make the brazier more mobile, metal wheels can be attached to the legs.

A brazier made from a household gas cylinder can be taken with you when outing into nature. In order for it not to take up much space in the trunk of a car, the supporting structure is made collapsible. All that is needed for this is a 40-centimeter piece of pipe with an internal diameter of 18-30 mm and a 3-meter pipe with a diameter of 16-28 mm. The main requirement is that when they are paired, the gap should be small, otherwise the brazier will be unstable.

By cutting a short piece into four equal parts, couplings are obtained, which are welded to the cylinder at the installation sites of the supports. After that, the brazier is installed on the legs and through drilling is performed to fix them inside the couplings. Pins inserted into these holes make it easy to carry assembled structure- tubes will not fall out. In addition to the sides of the portable brazier, carrying handles can be welded. By the way, during the transportation of the structure, all legs, firewood (or a package of coals) and ignition fluid can be placed inside. Such optimization will save a lot of space in the trunk.

How to bring the design to perfection

The ease of manufacture and other advantages of a barbecue grill from a cylinder are somewhat overshadowed by the conclusions of barbecue experts that the meat in them is not as tasty as in traditional braziers. Careful examination of the problem revealed several failures.

  • Due to the rounded bottom, the layer of coals in the center and along the edges differs in height. This heterogeneity leads to the fact that the firewood that is on the periphery burns out much longer than in the middle of the bookmark - the heat in the center settles much faster.
  • The spherical walls emit infrared rays not towards the kebab, but towards the coals, which further enhances the effect described above.
  • Unlike a flat-bottomed structure, the supply of oxygen to the brazier made from a round container is uneven.

It turned out to be quite simple to eliminate the shortcoming that did not allow to get the “right” barbecue. Refinement of the brazier requires the arrangement of a longitudinal duct along the entire length of its bottom. To do this, you need a steel corner with dimensions of 80 × 80 mm and a length of 900 mm. In both of its shelves, holes with a diameter of 12–15 mm are made in increments of 50 mm. The air duct is welded into the bottom so that both of its edges remain outside. The essence of the improvement is more clear from the presented figure.

How to paint to "cheap and forever"

The metal structure must be painted from both aesthetic and practical considerations. Unprotected steel will quickly rust, which will add neither beauty nor durability to the structure. Any heat-resistant paint intended for automobile mufflers is best suited for painting the brazier, however, its high price and complex application technology do not allow us to call this option ideal. The same disadvantages have silicone-based paints, specially created for painting. metal furnaces, fireplaces, barbecues and barbecues.

A cheap and practical material is Kuzbass varnish and similar mineral compounds based on bituminous resins.

The coating should be carried out in 3-4 layers, with a complete intermediate drying after each application. Of course, paint inner surface there is no need for a brazier - a soot coating, on the contrary, will contribute to obtaining an ideal product.

The disadvantages of this method are a long drying time and unpleasant, toxic fumes. In addition, the paint remains fragile for a long time, therefore it requires careful handling. The first 2-3 fires are best done "idle". This will eliminate the smell, make the coating more durable and safe. When mineral composition sintered, it will be very difficult to damage it. Practice shows that such a composition does not require updating for decades.

Video: how to build a brazier from a gas cylinder in three hours

Many options for barbecues built on the basis of a gas cylinder allow you to build a practical, functional and original design. It can be placed under a canopy or in a gazebo, installed in the open air or made completely mobile. A properly built brazier gives a soft and even heat, which makes the kebab soft and juicy. Therefore, all that remains to be desired is good company and bon appetit!
