What to do if the drainage hole is silted up. Silting of the cesspool - signs and solution to the problem. Ways to improve efficiency

Summer residents quite often have to deal with old cesspool– a problem that is unpleasant. Everyone knows what inconvenience a simple country sewer system causes. There are several common cleaning methods:

Using a pump or other available tool; Use of chemical or biological products; Ordering a sewer truck.

Cleaning the cesspool yourself

One of the most popular local sewage systems today is cesspool, which is actively used in summer cottages, in private houses and cottages. Unlike other similar systems, it does not require large operating costs. The main problem after putting a cesspool into operation is choosing the most appropriate option for cleaning it.

Cleaning with a conventional pump or other available means has several features:

The appearance of an unpleasant odor; The need to purchase a special fecal pump or filters for a regular pump so that it does not become clogged; The process takes a lot of time and effort; The need to remove waste from the site.

Using a regular bucket and shovel will make the cleanup process even more difficult and unpleasant. In addition, you will need a large, sealed container to accommodate subsequent wastewater disposal. Therefore, if you actively use a cesspool, it is best to purchase a special automatic pump, which will pump out wastewater as the pit fills.

Cleaning a cesspool using a suction pump

One way or another, you have to pump it out periodically, but, as we already understood, if you do it yourself, it will be quite unpleasant and difficult.

Contacting a specialized company is the best way out of the situation. You can always order cesspool maintenance, high-quality cleaning and sewage pumping services. Modern methods, devices and equipment have become much more convenient and simpler, so it won’t be a problem a lot of work choose a cesspool cleaner. Today, “dirty” work has begun to be performed using special devices, work complexes and instruments, therefore manual labor almost excluded here. Available a large number of preparations that speed up the process of waste decomposition, eliminating possible odors, because microbes are processed. In their work, specialists use only proven materials, new world technologies and high-quality modern equipment, so those who order services will be satisfied with such cooperation.

Note! When you seek help from experienced specialists, you can be sure of the high quality of work. This will require minimal effort on your part. A sewer truck will not only quickly pump out sewage, but will also solve the problems of removing waste from the site and its further disposal.

Features of cleaning a pit using a sewer machine:

Use a directory or the Internet to find an organization that disposes of household liquid waste. Order a sludge pump - this is a special machine that pumps out liquid waste. Sludge sucking machines are needed for vacuum cleaning of wells, cesspools, sewer and storm water networks from sludge and its transportation to the unloading site. The sludge sucking machines include Vacuum pump with drive, tank, hydraulic, electric, pneumatic systems, suction boom and additional equipment. Control is carried out from a remote control panel for the suction boom. Unloading of sludge occurs when tanks are tipped over. The only drawback of this method is pumping out the pit for the first time in all existing time; after such pumping, the soil’s ability to absorb water deteriorates, and it will have to be pumped out annually.

Note! To carry out cleaning using a sewer truck, it is necessary to ensure that the suction pump can reach a distance of no more than 4 meters. In addition, the depth of the pit should not exceed 3 meters.

If you use a cesspool only in the summer and the water consumption is small, then you will have to call the cesspool about once a month. However, when permanent residence in the house and active use shower, washing machine, dishwasher and other water-consuming appliances, you will have to order a suction pump three to four times a month.

Of course, this service is not very cheap, but this method of cleaning cesspools is very effective and allows you to solve many problems, including the problem of waste disposal.

Use of biological products

Great solution To clean the pit is the use of chemical and biological products. If necessary, you can consult a specialist to determine the required amount of funds for your cesspool. To disinfect the contents, there is also an antiseptic for cesspools.

Note! The result of the use of modern chemical and biological products is that instead of fecal matter and waste, a liquid is formed in the cesspool, which is odorless and safe. The sediment can be pumped out with a conventional pump, so calling a sewer truck will be required much less often.

Features of the use of biological products:

Biological products process accumulated fats, feces, paper, vegetable peelings and other contents. At the same time, the volume of waste is significantly reduced and cesspools are disinfected. For materials that were used in the construction process, biological products, unlike chemicals, are completely safe. They don't provide negative influence on metal, cinder block, brick, concrete and plastic. However, bacteria do not process materials of inorganic origin, household or construction waste, or plastic container, For example, plastic bags and bottles. Many chemicals are harmful to bacteria, so wastewater containing washing powders and detergents should not be poured into a cesspool. In an aggressive environment, bacteria will die, so cleaning will be ineffective. Biological products begin to work two hours after entering a liquid medium. In four hours they effectively cope with unpleasant odors. Bacteria can work effectively only at temperatures from +4 to +30 degrees. Before using the drug, be sure to read the instructions. Some drugs are sold immediately in ready-made liquid form, while others are sold in the form of granules, which must first be diluted in water. With the help of biological products, it is possible to restore the drainage properties of the pit, that is, its ability to absorb water. This is especially true after pumping with sewage trucks, when the drainage of the cesspool is disrupted.

Also, the drainage properties may deteriorate during the use of the pit, as a result of the bottom being filled with organic waste, the build-up of waste on the walls or the base of a fatty impenetrable plug. When using a bioactivator, drainage will be restored, the bottom and walls of the sewer pit or septic tank will return to their original state, and the incoming water will be absorbed into the soil again.

Note! Sometimes an unpleasant and specific odor appears after cleaning with a suction pump has been carried out. And this smell does not disappear immediately, but sometimes persists for about two weeks. Biological products that effectively combat unpleasant odors will also help you solve this problem.

Using biological products for cesspools and local treatment facilities, the consumer must be confident in their effectiveness not only in terms of cleaning and combating unpleasant odors, but also in environmental safety drugs used.

Biological products used for cleaning are the result of long-term scientific research in the field of biotechnology. They consist of microorganisms and bacteria, which through their vital activity do not cause any harm to the environment.

Today it is possible to order biological products for cleaning cesspools from specialized companies that will help you choose a drug for each specific situation, and also help you determine the optimal amount of the drug that is needed for a cesspool of a certain size.

Use of chemicals

However, biological products have one important drawback: they cannot work in winter. Of course for summer cottage this will not be a problem, but if you decide to arrange a cesspool in country house, where you like to relax in winter, then in the cold season you will have the problem of wastewater treatment. In this case, it is best to use chemicals:

Chemical preparations are not afraid of low temperatures, sudden temperature changes, and are also resistant to household products and aggressive environments. Chemicals effectively decompose different kinds waste and combat the appearance of unpleasant odors. But not all wastewater treatment chemicals are considered safe for environment.

Note! Formaldehyde, which has remained the most popular cleaning agent over the past decades, is very toxic and harmful, and the effects of ammonium compounds are still not fully understood and should be used very carefully. Experts recommend using nitrate oxidizers for cesspools, which are the safest. In their composition, nitrate oxidizers are close to fertilizers, so they do not harm either people or plants.

Even simplest form sewage system with a cesspool can significantly increase the level of comfort in suburban area. However, this solution has a significant disadvantage - the container for the accumulation and primary processing of wastewater requires periodic removal of the contents. Agree, cleaning of cesspools must be carried out according to the rules so that no damage is caused to the environment.

Owners of private houses and dachas not connected to centralized sewer networks, we offer scrupulously verified, systematized information about the methods and specifics of cleaning. With our help you can choose best option disposal of sewage accumulations and learn how to implement it.

A detailed description of the methods used in practice is based on personal experience household owners. The requirements of utility standards are taken into account. The information is confirmed by photo and video applications.

Modern summer residents and homeowners have three main ways to do this:

  • removal of sewage by pumping;
  • use of preparations for biological decomposition of waste;
  • chemical cleaning.

When figuring out how to effectively clean a cesspool, you should consider the specifics of using each of these methods. Depending on the situation, only one of them may be needed, but often it is necessary to carry out cleaning activities in combination. For example, after using biological drugs, additional pumping of sewage may be necessary.

When should cleanup activities begin? The work strategy should be thought out at the stage of creating a sewerage system, for example, by providing access roads for a sewer truck.

There is no need to wait until the drains fill the last cubic centimeter of the container. Excessive filling of the cesspool increases the likelihood of contamination of the area several times. If two-thirds of the tank is occupied by wastewater, it is time to reduce its level using available means.

Method #1 - emptying and pumping out the cesspool

If desired, the cesspool can even be cleaned manually, using an ordinary bucket on a rope. Owners of small summer cottages do just that. This work is extremely unpleasant and requires preparation. First, you should wear a protective suit or other clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. This is necessary in order to protect the skin, the drains can be quite aggressive.

For mechanical cleaning of cesspools use special machines– suction pumps that pump out the contents of the container and remove it for disposal

Then you need to take care of protecting the respiratory tract, and it’s not just the characteristic stench. The fumes emanating from the sewer contain methane, the inhalation of which is extremely dangerous for humans. For the same reason, it is not recommended to carry out cleaning work alone, especially if work is planned inside the cesspool.

If the one below becomes unconscious from the toxic fumes, a partner can help him. In addition to a protective suit and respirator, you need to wear high rubber boots or shoe covers, as well as gloves.

You will also need a sealed container into which the contents of the cesspool will be disposed of. Later, this sewage must be taken to the place designated for its disposal.

The distance between the sewer truck and the cesspool should be no more than four meters. This point should be considered when choosing a location for the sewer system, as well as during further redevelopment of the site

Manual cleaning is a long, dangerous and unpleasant task. If your budget allows, it is better to use a special one rather than a bucket to pump sewage into a container.

Things will go much faster, there will be significantly fewer dangerous contacts with a lot of wastewater. But in this case we must not forget about security measures.

To clean the cesspool with your own hands, you can use a fecal pump. This pump needs to be flushed periodically as it becomes clogged with solid waste.

It is much more convenient to clean the cesspool using specialized equipment, for example, a sludge sucker. This is a machine that drives up to the site and pumps out wastewater through a special wide hose.

The distance between the suction pump and the cleaning object should be no more than four meters. This technique does not service pits more than three meters deep, but such deep structures are usually not found.

For the sake of safety, when manually cleaning a cesspool, it is better to perform all procedures together: one works below, and the second insures it from above

Even when constructing a pit, you should take into account this nuance: vacuum cleaners charge not for the volume of pumped out waste, but for each visit. In order to reduce costs, it is necessary to calculate the volume of the cesspool so that a quantity of wastewater that is a multiple of the capacity of the suction pump is intended for pumping. At the same time, you need to remember that pumping begins if the pit is two-thirds full, and not “to capacity.”

Method #2 - biological decomposition of wastewater

The process of recycling wastewater using microorganisms is widely used in various septic tanks and VOCs industrial production. But today, even for cesspools, a line of biological products has been developed that can do what is not possible when emptying cesspools - reduce or completely eliminate the unpleasant odor characteristic of sewers.

Depending on the form of release of preparations for biological treatment, they may need to be preliminary preparation. Usually the granules or powder just need to be dissolved in a small amount of water

The sewage disposal truck leaves, and a suffocating sewer spirit hovers over the site for several more hours, or even days. The use of biological drugs significantly improves the situation.

To do this you need to select suitable remedy and use it according to the instructions. Available in the form of gels, liquids, powders, granules, etc.

Microorganisms decompose the contents of the sewer into water and environmentally neutral sludge. From the permeable pit, water flows into the surrounding soil, and silt gradually accumulates. Naturally, the degree of such purification is lower than that of high-tech VOCs; the water cannot be used for irrigation, and the sediment cannot be used as fertilizer. But the speed of filling the cesspool is reduced significantly.

Of course, the sediment from sewerage facility by itself will not go anywhere, it also needs to be removed or pumped out using the method described above with the involvement of sewer trucks. There is one more important nuance– not all wastewater can be processed using bacteria.

Special preparations are intended for biological cleaning of cesspools. Some of them are designed to recycle toilet paper dissolved in drains

Inorganic waste that enters the sewer accumulates at the bottom and reduces the amount of free space in the storage tank. Aggressive household chemicals, such as those containing chlorine, can create an environment that is harmful to microorganisms. Owners of washing machines and dishwashers one should be careful in this regard.

Method #3 – use of chemicals

If biological treatment is just a holiday for the environment, then the use of chemicals can pose a threat.

To remove waste from cesspools, the following are most often used:

  • formaldehyde preparations;
  • nitrate oxidizers;
  • ammonium salts.

Even those who are far from chemistry know that formaldehyde is dangerous substance. Its only advantage is its relatively low price. This drug is toxic and can cause cancer. For these reasons, formaldehyde is practically not used to clean cesspools.

Cleaners based on nitrate oxidizers are much safer in terms of safety. best characteristics. Their composition is close to the components of fertilizers of this type, i.e. If the dosage is correct and the instructions are followed, this cleaner is completely safe. These drugs have a high price, which is fully justified by their high efficiency.

Ammonium salts are effective Chemical substance for cleaning cesspools, but such chemicals must be used with caution in accordance with the instructions

When added to the sewer, the drug effectively dilutes waste, while simultaneously neutralizing unpleasant odors. After the effect of the drug ends, the processed contents of the cesspool can be quickly pumped out and disposed of.

Another useful property nitrate cleaners are that their effectiveness does not decrease upon contact with even the most aggressive household chemicals. Products of this type are suitable for cleaning not only the pit, but also the entire sewer system.

There is currently no accurate data on how safe drugs based on ammonium salts are. Therefore, when using this product, like any aggressive chemical, you need to carefully study the instructions and follow them exactly.

The presence of chlorine-containing agents in wastewater may weaken the effect of using this drug, but according to reviews, it copes well with unpleasant odors.

Waiting until the septic tank is filled to the top is a bad strategy. Cleaning should begin when the amount of sewage is 60-70% of the container volume

When choosing a sewer cleaning method, you should take into account your specific situation. For example, if you need to clean a cesspool under a separate toilet, you should pay attention to products that can dissolve not only drains, but also toilet paper.

Solving the siltation problem

Siltation is a serious problem for both permeable and sealed cesspools. In the first case, the liquid part of the sediment will not be able to enter the ground due to the dense silt layer that covers the internal walls of the structure. In the second case, sewage will have to be pumped out more often, since deposits will reduce the volume of the container.

One of the signs that sludge is forming inside a cesspool is the appearance of a characteristic unpleasant odor - hydrogen sulfide vapor. When figuring out how to clean a silted cesspool, you must remember that in this case you need to do more than just neutralize the waste or pump out the contents.

If your cesspool fills up too quickly or often silts up, you may want to consider upgrading it with an additional container and overflow

All plaque should be removed from the walls and bottom of the container. To do this, chemicals or chemical cleaning methods are used, but a combination of these methods is often most effective. At mechanical cleaning First, the bulk of the sewage is pumped out. After this, you need to supply water under strong pressure using a hose into the container.

Jet treatment inner surface cesspool in such a way as to break up the sludge and separate it into separate small particles. Processing is carried out until the container is filled by approximately 25%. After this, the contents are either sucked off and then disposed of.

To chemically clean a silted structure, chemical cleaners are used that are designed to dissolve solid inclusions - the nitrate oxidizers already described above. They usually also cope with silty deposits. After some time, all or almost all of the contents will become liquid and can be pumped out without problems.

It is worth noting that the use of chemicals will be much more expensive than emptying by pumping, but this operation is easier to perform and will take less time. In the process of physically removing sludge, you will have to put up with a large amount of dirt, which is usually accompanied by this procedure.

In cesspools without a bottom, you will also have to clean or update sand and gravel filter, which is below. The safest thing to do would be to remove the entire contents of the filter and re-install the clean components: a layer of sand, crushed stone and/or gravel about 40 centimeters thick.

To prevent siltation of the cesspool, it is recommended to drain water from it to a filtration field. It is best to do this at the stage of creating the structure, but if desired, you can perform this operation later. To do this, you need to install a horizontal one at about half the height of the cesspool to drain liquid waste.

If the cesspool is silted, it should be pumped out immediately and the walls should be cleaned using a scraper or chemicals, for example, nitrate oxidizing agents

To install a filtration field, you need to excavate the soil to the level of laying the outlet pipe. A layer of agrofibre is laid down, and crushed stone is poured on top. A pipe coming out of the cesspool is laid on this “cushion”. The pipe must be perforated; you just need to make holes in it at equal distances.

Another layer of crushed stone is poured on top of the pipe, and then covered again with agrofibre. It turns out that the pipe is surrounded on all sides by filter materials. This will ensure rapid removal of liquid contents from the cesspool and its safe disposal in the soil.

If problems with the cesspool begin to occur more often, it makes sense to improve the operation of the structure accessible ways. Some arrange it, which functions like a septic tank. To do this, next to the existing container, they arrange another one, approximately the same.

The first container should be sealed, and the second should be permeable or without a bottom. It is possible to make the second container sealed, but then it is necessary to provide for the discharge of juices to the filtration field or to drainage well. The overflow between these two sections is installed with a slight slope in the upper third of the containers.

First, the wastewater will flow into the first compartment, where it will settle, solid waste will sink to the bottom, and the liquid component of the sewer content will overflow when it reaches the desired level.

The second compartment will receive mainly liquid waste, which will quickly move to the filtration field for further disposal. As a result, the pit will have to be cleaned much less frequently, and the likelihood of siltation of the structure will noticeably decrease.

Freezing sewer pipes occurs most often due to errors during installation. If this happens, the pipe needs to be heated to restore the sewer system.

In winter, the drainage in the cesspool may freeze, which will lead to problems in the operation of the sewerage system. To correct the situation, the frozen mass must be thawed. Traditionally, or is used for this. If there is no power supply, make fires near the frozen pit and use blowtorch and so on.

For craftsmen who have at least a little experience working with electricians, another method of defrosting a cesspool is available - heating directly using electric current. A metal pin is driven into the middle of the frozen cesspool to approximately the freezing depth.

Then you need to take an electrical cable of a suitable length. Its end is stripped and connected to the pin, and 220V power is supplied to the opposite end.

It may take quite a lot of time to completely defrost the structure, sometimes you need to wait about a day, it all depends on the size of the pit. When performing this type of work, it is imperative to comply with electrical safety requirements, for example, use protective rubber gloves, shoes, etc.

If it is not the pit that freezes, but the sewer pipe leading to it, this indicates flaws in the laying of communications, for example, the trench was not deep enough or there is no insulation. These problems can be corrected in the summer, but during cold weather, care should be taken to defrost the pipes.

For this you can also use electricity. At the end of the cable you need to strip a section equal to the circumference of the pipe. To calculate this value, you simply need to multiply the pipe diameter by 3.14, i.e. to the number “pi”.

The protected wire is then wound around the frozen pipe. Power is supplied to the cable; after a couple of hours of such heating, the contents of the pipe will melt and the operation of the sewer system will resume.

Conclusions and useful video on the topic

A practical option for cleaning a silted cesspool is presented in this video:

Here we demonstrate the procedure for pumping waste out of a cesspool using a fecal pump, which should be washed periodically:

The process and result of using a bioactivator to clean a cesspool can be seen in this video:

Although the cesspool is very simple option devices autonomous sewerage, it requires proper maintenance and timely cleaning. Modern means allow you to get rid of waste accumulated in the building quickly and efficiently.

Still have questions about cleaning cesspools? Or maybe you know others no less effective ways and have you already tried them in practice? Ask your questions and share your experience in the block located at the bottom of the article.

Typically, a cesspool requires very careful maintenance. It must be pumped out frequently, and products must be used to prevent unpleasant odors and rapid filling. Therefore, a cesspool is not the best option containers for autonomous sewerage. In this capacity, it is often recommended to use septic tanks, because they are more practical. Cesspools are more suitable for country toilets. In such cases, so-called open cesspools. They usually have no bottom, or have several holes in the body. Thanks to these features, the liquid part of the waste is absorbed into the soil. The pit gradually cleanses itself, and resort to various methods pumping is required less often. However, in this situation another problem arises - how to get rid of sludge in a cesspool?

Silt is sediment at the bottom of reservoirs and cesspools, consisting of organic debris and minerals.

It is formed as a result of the action of bacteria that feed on various organic compounds. As a result of their work, all waste is processed and divided into two layers. Water remains on top of the container, which is absorbed into the ground, and silty sediment remains below.

Getting rid of it is the main problem of using cesspools even for toilets. The sediment does not go anywhere, but gradually accumulates at the bottom. Sooner or later you have to get rid of it.

The simplest method available is pumping out sludge using special equipment.

Most often, they resort to the services of a sewer truck for this. It consists of a waste collection container, pumping equipment and a durable hose. The latter is placed in a pit and transfers all waste from the pit to a container that is mounted on the chassis of a large vehicle. You don't need to participate in the pumping at all. An experienced specialist will do all the work for you.

When cleaning cesspools outdoor toilets often occur Problems associated with the viscosity of the silt sediment. In this case, it simply won’t be possible to pump out the pit completely, and you will lose time and money, because you will still have to pay for the machine’s services.

Biological drugs are used for this purpose. They contain live bacteria that accelerate natural processes waste decomposition. As a result, the sediment becomes more liquid, and pumping out the pit is very simple.

You can purchase bacteria for septic tanks and cesspools at any hardware store. It is best to purchase the product in the form granules Before use, just dissolve it in water and leave for 15–20 minutes. The bacteria are activated and will be ready to perform their functions.

It is also worth noting that in addition to facilitating pumping, you will also receive additional beneficial features:

  • The unpleasant smell will go away.
  • The population of harmful bacteria will be reduced.
  • The time until the next cleaning will be reduced.
  • The amount of waste in the pit will be reduced.

Here you go simple instructions how to get rid of sludge in a cesspool. It is enough to first prepare it using biological preparations, and then pump out the waste mechanically.

In order to ensure comfortable living in a private house or cottage, the owners must take care sewer system. As a rule, residents of the private sector prefer storage tanks. This is much cheaper than installing a sealed tank, which requires constant cleaning using sewage equipment.

Despite its simplicity and accessibility, the operation of a drainage pit can cause difficulties for the owners of the site. One of the most common problems is how quickly it fills. Let's take a closer look at how to determine that the cesspool is filling too quickly, and what actions to take in this case.

The main signs of filling a hole

It is not difficult to determine that the cesspool has quickly filled up. There are several signs of decreased functionality. These include:

  • unpleasant odor in the area even when the waste pit is tightly closed;
  • siltation at the bottom of the tank;
  • various deposits on the walls of the structure;
  • need for pumping every 4-5 weeks.

The appearance of one or more of the listed signs indicates insufficient efficiency of the structure.

Reasons for filling quickly

For effective solution problems with sewerage it is necessary to establish the reasons why drain hole fills up quickly. The main factors contributing to the occurrence of dysfunction are:

  • silting of the cesspool;
  • accumulation of fat and other deposits on the bottom and walls;
  • freezing of the structure in winter.

Once the reasons for the premature overflow of the storage structure have been identified, you should move on to options for solving the problem.

What to do if the bottom of the pit silts up?

If the reason the drain hole is filling quickly is that it has silted up, you can solve the problem in several ways:

  1. Pumping out sewage and major cleaning of the structure using sewage disposal devices.
  2. Liquefaction of sludge deposits with water. To do this, you need to fill the tank with a large amount of water for 24 hours.
  3. The use of biological products to improve the functionality of the sewer system.

Most in a simple way The solution to the problem is to call a vacuum cleaner, but such a service is not cheap. Many owners of private houses prefer to use preparations with biologically active substances in cases where the pit has silted up. The results of their use include:

  • elimination unpleasant odors from the sewer;
  • cleaning sewer pipes and storage tanks from various deposits;
  • reducing the level of sewage in the tank;
  • preventing siltation in the future;
  • restoring the system.

IMPORTANT. You should be aware that products based on microorganisms and bacteria cannot be used in winter time. At low temperatures, the properties of the drug will be significantly reduced.

Selection of biological product

Specialized stores offer a huge range of biologically active drugs. Among them there are products from both foreign and domestic manufacturers of different price categories.

The form of release of the drug also differs; it can be a liquid concentrate, powder or tablets. Which drug is better to buy?

In order to clean the pit from sludge, many residents of private houses are advised to opt for liquid and powder preparations. This is due to the fact that these products contain anaerobic species of bacteria. These bacteria have the ability to process organic matter without oxygen.

It must be taken into account that products with biologically active substances can only be diluted with water that does not contain chlorine. Otherwise, the effectiveness of the drug will be significantly reduced.

The degree of activity of microorganisms also decreases when chemicals are poured into the sewer. detergents, stain removers or bleaches.

Cleaning the bottom and walls of the storage tank

Deposits on the bottom and walls of the tank are common cause violations in his work. What to do in this case?

It is necessary to clean the pit and functionality will be restored. To do this, you need to follow the following sequence of actions:

  1. Using a water or fecal pump, pump waste out of the storage tank.
  2. Fill the reservoir with water. This should be done in order to dissolve deposits and blockages.
  3. Pour the biological product into the pit for 4-5 hours.

The main advantage of using a biological product for clogged drains is that there is no need for pumping out after its use. Wastewater will go away on their own after the active substances of the drug destroy the blockages that do not allow water to pass through.

In addition, the biological product helps improve drainage layers, which increases the efficiency of the structure.

How to defrost a pit?

As a rule, freezing of the drainage pit in winter is prevented by a layer of snow and a thermal insulation system, but it happens that at very low temperatures the waste freezes. What to do if the cesspool freezes in winter?

You can defrost waste in a cesspool using an extension cord, copper wire, a steel rod 20-30 cm long and a grip.

Important! When carrying out work involving the use of electricity, it is necessary to observe safety precautions and protect yourself with rubber gloves and shoes with thick rubber soles. You should also limit access to the place of work for children and pets.

In cases where only the sewer pipe is frozen, it is wrapped in a copper conductor, which is connected to the phase wire. Under the influence of current, thawing of the pipe will take 2-3 hours.

When the entire pit freezes, a steel rod is driven into the middle, to which a copper conductor is connected. This is followed by the application of phase voltage. In this case, the pit will thaw for at least 24 hours. After completing the work, first turn off the voltage, and then remove the rod and wires.

The further functionality of the sewer system depends on how well the work is done.

Many owners of houses and cottages with individual sewage systems are faced with the problem of sludge forming in the cesspool. To put it in order, it is necessary to use a suitable method, taking into account the design of the pit. Cleaning a cesspool from sludge differs for:

  • a cesspool without a bottom, which is simply a depression in the ground;
  • a sealed pit with a bottom, where waterproofing of the entire surface is used to protect against waste leakage into the soil;
  • septic tank, specially designed to provide biological treatment special filters or additives.

It is important to choose the right way to clean a cesspool of sludge so that this process goes without problems and does not take much time.

Tidying up a hole without a bottom

Most of the waste in such a pit is processed naturally, but microorganisms living in the ground are not able to cope with the sludge. Therefore, it is necessary to add water inside and then clean out the contents with an ordinary bucket on a rope. After drying, it is advisable to fill the bottom with gravel, which will simplify subsequent maintenance.

If the hole is too large and filled to the limit with waste, then it will be easier to completely bury it and then prepare a place for a new one.

Cleaning a sealed pit

There are three ways to remove sludge from a cesspool:

  • fecal pump with the function of grinding all large waste drawn in. In this case, it is necessary to dilute the contents with water, and then load the hose with the connected special device for pumping out waste. As it drains, it is necessary to add more water, which is also pumped out to wash the walls and bottom;
  • biological products. When choosing how to dissolve sludge in a cesspool, many prefer to use such additives. They are offered in powder, liquid or tablet form. When added to a pit, they prevent the formation of sludge, reduce unpleasant odors and significantly reduce the amount of solid waste;
  • chemicals. It is necessary to choose nitrate oxidizers that are safe for nature and humans. They quickly dissolve sludge, remove unpleasant odors and generally reduce the amount of waste, which can then be used for fertilizer.

It should be noted that periodic pumping of waste will still be required, even if you mainly use biological products and chemicals.

Septic tank cleaning

Many who use septic tanks do not think about how to clean the cesspool of sludge. This is due to the fact that manufacturers install special pipes. Through them, silt is removed from the pit by gravity, without requiring any effort from the owner.

But in some cases there are no such pipes, so the septic tank requires periodic cleaning with a drainage pump. With its help, all existing contaminants are completely removed.

You can also use special bacteria for septic tanks. They reduce the amount of solid waste and also break down silt and fatty layers, so that even without special pipes the pit remains clean and always ready for use.
