Do-it-yourself canopy from a tarpaulin for a terrace. Canopy from the sun: from the choice of design to self-assembly. Retractable terrace awnings

Everyone loves summer. Summer is warm, sunny, outdoor recreation. But the sun is tiring, most of the day it bakes mercilessly, awakening the desire to hide from the hot rays, hide in the shade.

To create comfortable conditions for recreation, to protect people from the heat, to provide comfort and coolness, light canopies - awnings are called upon.

Industry Offers whole line similar products are awnings for windows from the sun, awnings for balconies, terraces, retail space and summer grounds. Buying a finished awning, as well as ordering its manufacture according to the original project, is not difficult, but if you wish, you can make it yourself.

Features and purpose

An awning is a light canopy designed to protect from the sun, rain, and sometimes from the wind. Unlike other similar designs, it is quickly installed and also quickly removed. This was achieved thanks to a special folding mechanism, which makes it possible to significantly simplify the work and bring the installation and dismantling time to just a few seconds. Devices with a manual or electric drive are on sale.

Despite the apparent fragility and weightlessness, awnings are made of durable materials, which ensures high reliability and guarantees the durability of products. With their help, it's easy:

  • create a temporary roof over the summer terrace of a cafe or restaurant;
  • protect large shopping areas from the sun;
  • create a shadow on the terrace of a private house;
  • organize temporary shading of balconies and windows.

Such lightweight structures are also used to create comfortable conditions for outdoor recreation, shading pleasure boats, boats, catamarans.

Variety of models

There are several varieties of marquises. Each of them has its own characteristics, its own scope of use. The choice of a particular model depends primarily on where it will be installed. It is easy to guess that terrace awnings will have a completely different design than, for example, window awnings.

open

Folding awnings of this type are excellent for shading large areas: terraces of private houses, retail space, summer areas of enterprises Catering. The main advantages of this design are ease of installation and affordable price. The only thing to consider when planning to install an open model is that there should be a niche in the wall where you can hide the folding mechanism from atmospheric influences, or you will have to additionally make a protective visor.

Cassette and semi-cassette

Unlike open awnings, cassette awnings do not need additional shelter, since the main parts of the working mechanism are completely or partially hidden in a special box that protects it from the effects of the atmosphere. Thanks to this, you do not have to worry that the mechanism will jam at the most crucial moment, however, such a design will cost a little more.

Retractable

One of the most common types of awnings are retractable systems. This is a horizontal or inclined structure, having one or more folding rails and a roll-up system for folding the web. The main advantage of retractable models is the ability to quickly cover a large area and just as quickly remove the canopy.

When folded, the retractable awning is practically invisible on the wall, it merges with it. Exactly because of this reason this option Ideal for summer playgrounds and commercial areas. An additional plus is that advertising, information about suppliers and similar information can be placed on the fabric.

Dome or basket

The main difference between dome models is the shape. Outwardly, they look like an inverted basket, but are functionally similar to an umbrella, rather, a half umbrella attached to the wall. It is because of this that this option is the best awning over the window. The design is lightweight, has a spectacular appearance, provides maximum protection not only from the sun, but also from the rain.

Showcase

As the name implies, the main purpose of this model is to protect the showcase from direct sunlight. But its scope is not limited to this. The display awning will look great above the entrance to the house or above the open balcony. In most cases, it is inclined, has several stops of adjustable length, which allows you to change the angle of inclination over a wide range.

Other designs

In addition to the main varieties, there are a large number of original models. In homes, vertical awnings are often used. In essence, these are external blinds on rigid frames of a folding structure. Such "curtains" can be set at any angle, providing maximum comfort in the room, and if necessary, they can be easily folded.

For terraces, especially if permanent shading is required, horizontal awnings are used. In essence, these are fabric roofs on a rigid frame. Catering establishments often use sectional awnings - a frame made of parallel bars or pipes, on which the fabric is stretched. Fan canopies look original, they do not take up much space, they allow you to close a small area from the sun.

Making an awning with your own hands

Nowadays buy or order making a lung a canopy of any configuration is not a problem, but often this is unacceptable. The finished design can be expensive, not satisfying according to its characteristics, or you just want to make an awning with your own hands, the scheme and parameters of which will perfectly match your own wishes.

Fabric choice

A high-quality and beautiful awning is, first of all, an appropriate fabric. The issue of beauty should not be considered, it all depends on your own taste and the desired effect, but regarding quality, a good fabric should:

  • differ in strength;
  • have a small weight;
  • pass air;
  • hold water;
  • maintain color and appearance for a long time;
  • be a barrier to ultraviolet rays.

Acrylic fabrics exactly correspond to all the listed requirements. This modern material with excellent consumer properties. Alternatively, consider polyester fabric. It has comparable characteristics of strength and reliability, while it compares favorably with a huge variety of colors.

For shading terraces that will be used all year round, PVC is suitable. Among other things, an awning made of this material is characterized by high strength, it is guaranteed to withstand not only heavy rain, but also piles of snow.

In order for the awning to look as impressive as possible, it is worth choosing the right color.

Note! Most often they choose plain fabrics, striped, with a large pattern.

The choice entirely depends on the owner of the property, while the design of nearby buildings must be taken into account so that the new decoration of the house is in harmony with the general background.

Create a sketch

It does not matter what configuration of the awning will be made, even if it is a simple horizontal one with additional legs, it is worth starting work with a drawing. This is not difficult, because you do not need to create a full-fledged project, a sketch is enough, by which you can judge the appearance of the awning and its main dimensions.

The finished drawing will greatly simplify the work at every stage, from the preparation of the material to the installation of the finished product. In addition to it, it would be useful to outline a work plan with a list of activities step by step. This will be especially useful for beginners.

Preparation of materials

After the model is selected and a sketch of the future product is created, you need to buy and prepare the material. From what exactly to make an awning depends on the chosen model. Complex sliding structures are best made from aluminum or steel pipes. Stationary horizontal canopies are preferably made of wood. It is a good choice for terrace country house, especially if the house is wooden or sheathed with boards. In this case, the racks are made of planed timber, horizontal lintels are made of slats or thin boards.

The only truly complex part of the awning is the fabric folding mechanism. The easiest way is to buy it ready-made, this will save you from a number of difficulties, provide convenience and guarantee long-term operation. By the way, if a purchased mechanism is used, creating a drawing and preparing instructions, you need to “dance” precisely from its parameters.

Assembly of parts

After the material is prepared, markup and cutting are performed. The frame is assembled into a single whole. It is not recommended to use welding and similar connections, a collapsible structure is easier to dismantle and maintain. The tubes are twisted with bolts, the bars with self-tapping screws; to stiffen it, it is imperative to use steel reinforcing elements.

A do-it-yourself marquise will delight you with coolness for a long time, but only if you pay due attention to it. The list of recommendations is not too extensive, you just need to follow a few simple rules:

  • roll up the awning in case of strong wind;
  • for the winter, the mechanism should be dismantled or covered with a special cover.
  • periodically clean the canvas with a dry brush or vacuum cleaner;
  • regularly lubricate moving parts;
  • when folding the canopy, do not skew so as not to damage the fabric;
  • if folding is too tight, you should not try to “defeat” the technique, you need to figure out the cause of the malfunction and fix it.

The awning on the terrace, on the windows, on the balcony is beautiful, original and functional. The right configuration, well-chosen colors will help create a truly unique home. The marquise will give a pleasant coolness, allow you to relax in the fresh air even in the scorching heat or in the pouring rain.

A canopy is a unique structure, thanks to which you can not only hide yourself from inclement weather, but also hide a car, furniture, things and much more. The canopy in the country is simply irreplaceable. And the simplest solution is the arrangement of a fabric canopy. It is lightweight, can be disassembled, and also saves well from the scorching sun or rain. But what fabric should you choose for a canopy so that it lasts as long as possible?

Fabric for awnings must have protective physical properties. Awning fabrics have such properties. There are several types of such fabrics:

  • tarpaulin;
  • polyester fabrics with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coating;
  • rubberized fabrics;
  • acrylic fabrics;
  • tarpaulin.

Tarpaulin is the most popular fabric for awnings and awnings, despite the presence of modern synthetic materials. It is made from natural fibers of linen and cotton. The density of this material is 300-600 g / m 2, and therefore it is very rough. Tarpaulin has properties such as wear resistance, durability, breathability.

In addition, to give additional properties, the material is impregnated with special compounds that make the tarpaulin waterproof and fireproof. And yet, this is the most cheap material. It is used to create canopies in agriculture, construction, carports.

The lack of tarpaulin in its natural composition, which is why some types of tarpaulin, after getting wet, can mold and rot.

Also, PVC-coated fabrics can be attributed to inexpensive fabrics. They are lighter and thinner than tarpaulin, but they are very durable and do not lose their shape. The advantage of such fabrics is that they:

  • do not fade under the rays of the sun;
  • protect against penetration of UV rays;
  • not susceptible to temperature differences from -30 to +70;
  • repel water.

PVC fabrics are used for outdoor awnings, tents, car park awnings. Insulated PVC material is called isolon. Unlike all other materials, it is able to retain heat, and therefore it is used in cold regions for the construction of insulated canopies.

The most popular fabrics that do not let water through and repel water are rubberized fabrics. They are well suited for car awnings, for carports, as well as for summer cottages and cottages where you need to make a canopy over a terrace or gazebo.

Acrylic fabric, like the previous one, has wear resistance, water resistance and other important characteristics. But the difference is in a wide range of colors, and the acrylic fabric does not fade in the sun and does not deform. Acrylic fabrics are often used in the manufacture of awnings.

The most modern material is tarpaulin, which is made from polyethylene laminated with a special film. The most common tarpaulin is blue and green, as well as dark blue and dark green. The fabric is suitable for different types canopies including, awning, tourist, automobile.

Important! All synthetic fabrics have one minus, at the junction of two canvases with your own hands, water can flow from time to time, so the seams must be coated with a waterproof compound.

When choosing a fabric for a canopy or outdoor tents, you need to think not only about how it protects from rain, but also from other weather phenomena. What should you pay attention to when buying fabric:

The simplest option to build a fabric canopy with your own hands is to buy a finished structure for an awning. It is enough to fix such a canopy with brackets on the wall, and you're done. But with a canopy on supports, everything is much more complicated. Firstly, in addition to the fabric, you will need metal tubes and poles or wooden supports and logs. Secondly, the installation process will take longer.

So, first, according to the measured dimensions, you need to build a metal or wooden frame future canopy, and then pull a fabric cover over it. Let's take a closer look at the whole work with an example canopy. To assemble it yourself, you need to do the following work:

For your information! Sheds made of fabric of a similar design are sold ready-made, you just have to assemble it, bypassing work with a grinder and other tools.

Summing up, we note that the most practical for building a canopy with your own hands are synthetic fabrics. They not only do not let water through and save from sunlight, but are also dirt-resistant, as well as durable and reliable. Even a squally wind does not tear such canopies. You can safely build a canopy of fabric, it is affordable and quite feasible.

If the complex structures of canopies made of metal or wood do not suit you for any reason, you can pay attention to light canopies made of thick fabric.

The advantage of light fabric awnings is that they are portable.

A special advantage of such structures is the ability to quickly remove the awning by simply folding it - special levers and automation allow you to do this in a second.

You can also make a fabric awning yourself. This canopy from the sun can be made by constructing a metal frame and putting on it a cloth of bright fabric.

The simplest fabric tent for children

portable canopy

A square panel made of light awning material measuring 2x2 meters. On each side, two loops are sewn at regular intervals, four more loops are sewn at the corners. Awning attachment schemes

The drawings show how many different shelters can be built using an awning. The central post has a height of 1.5 m (3 sections of 0.5 m each). It is better to buy a set of duralumin racks ready-made, a set from ordinary tents will do.

The three pictures on the right show a diagram of an awning that can serve as shelter from the sun and wind. If the fabric is impregnated with a water-repellent compound or simply thrown over the awning polyethylene film, it will cover from the rain.

To attach the awning, you need to stock up on several braces - nylon cords 2-3 meters long. That's all, the tent is ready.

Such an awning is also useful in the country, if there is no stationary canopy, or there will be a need for it.

This option was invented by motorists.

This thing, which is very useful in road trips, if you buy it ready-made, is not cheap (from 10,000 rubles for a modest 2x2 meter awning).

We thought and developed the concept of a car awning measuring almost 3 by 3 meters, under which you can freely place a camping table and chairs and hide from the sun (or from rain) during parking, writes svetka_u

We will need 6 m of rip-stop fabric, which can be bought at camping equipment stores, folding awning stands (we bought 4 stands 1.9 m high, the height of our car), pegs and rope for stretch marks, thick fabric such as cordura for cover (we were lucky to find both fabrics of the same color), a dimensional zipper and locks to it, a sling and “trident” fasteners.

The awning will be attached to the trunk bar, which, in turn, is attached to the roof rails. Our version stretches over back door so that under the awning you can safely load things into the luggage compartment during rain, but the option of fastening along the side of the car is possible, in this case you can think of fastening directly to the railing.

Consumables, excluding the cost of the trunk, cost 2500 rubles - feel the difference.

I cut the fabric into two pieces of 3 m each. The length of the luggage crossbar is 140 cm, so one panel of fabric had to be reduced in width to the same 140 cm, and I cut off one corner from the second. The awning will look like this (dimensions are in cm):

Before sewing the panels, I cut out corners from dense fabric for the cover, which need to be sewn in the corners of the tent, where there will be eyelets for racks (see drawing). I additionally strengthened the corners with circles from the same fabric:

On the edge of the tent farthest from the crossbar, I provided a pocket in which the folded racks will hide (see drawing), so I sew the corners not on the edge, but taking into account the width of the pocket:

Now I sew two panels, sewing a stronger junction:

From the remnants of the fabric I make a bag for pegs:

I took the awning to the workshop and put the eyelets:

Now we need to sew a cover. Its length is 140 cm, and I determined the width by rolling the awning together with the uprights into a roll and measuring its girth (I gave a margin, of course). I sew a zipper between two strips of dense fabric.

To one side I sew the central drawstring for the luggage crossbar, the side loops for it (made from a wide sling) and the slings for the cover assembly with the awning. Reciprocal slings with sewn "tridents" are sewn on the other side of the cover:

Now I sew the tent itself to the cover:

The most difficult thing is to sew bottoms into the case:

Now you can assemble the structure. Having folded the awning in half, we fill the racks in the pocket:

We twist the awning into a roll (winding on racks is much easier than just twisting the fabric, the husband came up with the idea with a pocket):

We fill the roll into a case, remove the ropes for stretch marks and a bag with pegs there:

The awning is assembled, the cover is put on the crossbar of the trunk (so far without fastenings for roof rails, they will be located between the central drawstring and the side loops from the sling):

The tests of the awning were carried out during a three-day off-road trip with our car club during the November holidays. We set up the tent in the evening. It was frosty at night, so frost formed on the tent. View from above:

Under the awning, a table and chairs easily fit, I think it can accommodate up to 4 people:

Tests have shown that the pegs for the tent are short and weakly hold stretch marks (a couple of racks fell from the wind at night), we need to think about more powerful and long stakes (you will have to sew a new bag :). Also, the cloth itself does not stretch very much; during rain, water will collect on it. I don’t want to put a central rack - this will limit the freedom of placement under the awning. You can put higher racks at the ends of the main panel, and lower ones on the side ones ... In general, I hope this master class will be useful for lovers of autotravel. Comments and ideas for correcting deficiencies are welcome.

The second option for canopies for summer cottages is to make the racks stationary, and the top is made of waterproof fabric

source

This is one of the options for arranging a summer cottage, since not everyone likes to spend time indoors during the hot season. Agree, when nature is revealed around you with violent colors and fresh air strives to penetrate the lungs, filling them to the end, sitting in the house will be a “crime”.

But, the sun burns in earnest in summer, so it is better to hide from it under a canopy or tent. Such designs are freely sold in the markets and in stores in the sections for summer cottages, however, they can be made with your own hands (see also the article " Infrared heaters for giving - an easy way to save on heating").

In the photo - an option for self-manufacturing a canopy in the country

From the many different offers for outdoor recreation, among which may be:

we have to choose the most suitable for our site.

It is better to buy a complete tent with a mosquito net

Tent
  1. Modern industry produces a variety of tents not only for military or tourist needs, but also for domestic use.
  2. It is indispensable when a collapsible hinged structure is required, which can be assembled quickly enough.
  3. Developers today are moving in the direction of maximum functionality and cost-effectiveness of the product.
  4. Models weighing 2-5 kg are in the greatest demand on the market, among which for the summer you can choose a convenient and relatively inexpensive design.
  5. They also produce options specially designed for children, featuring bright colors.
Tents, awnings, awnings
  1. They can be open or closed. Therefore, the choice will not be difficult if you know why you need such a design.
  2. open options do not have side walls, so they are often used to protect against sunlight, wind and rain. The use of mosquito nets will help to escape from a variety of insects, including mosquitoes and flies. Complete with an awning or a tent, its price will be lower.
  3. Closed Options often called universal, because you can stay comfortably in them at any time of the year. They look like garden house but only small. An entrance door is installed here and ventilation openings are made in the form of windows.

Although the design itself is simple, there are several factors that you should consider when buying:

  1. The material must match your needs. For example, if you need to hide from the rain, it should not be gauze from the sun.
  2. The mass of the product and its mobility.
  3. Construction safety.

Pay due attention to the last point, despite the fact that in your eyes "such a house" may look frivolous.

However, be sure to consider:

  • its fire safety;
  • what materials were used in production;
  • how they are environmentally friendly and will not harm your health.

Another aspect is the appearance of the structure. Please note that its operation will take place in harsh atmospheric conditions.

This model has a metal frame.

Therefore, if it is made of poor quality, it will quickly begin to lose it, so it is better to give preference to slightly expensive materials, but having:

  • strength;
  • wear resistance;
  • durability.

At the moment, the industry produces inexpensive, lightweight fabric textures for the manufacture of suspended structures.

  1. The umbrella is one of the most popular types. It resembles an ordinary rain umbrella and its opening mechanism is the same. When choosing it, be aware that such awning structures will not be able to protect you from slanting rain or strong wind, unlike tents that can protect you from any bad weather.
  1. Awnings on an open frame are also quite a practical and inexpensive option. They consist of a frame and a fabric roof, sometimes it can be plastic. Instructions for installing them will not be difficult.
  1. Closed tents are very similar to tents, as they have walls. Such designs are especially interesting because they look like round or polygonal tents. The difference is that the walls are made of fabric or plastic, and transparent and dense sections, unlike a tent, can alternate between them. To make the tent open, you just need to remove the walls.
  1. firmly included in the modern landscape design for giving awnings-rocking chairs, which combine a canopy and a swing.

Significant design flaws are:

Typically, such designs for giving are larger than tents in size, they can resemble an awning in appearance. The size of the tent depends on the number of people who will rest in it.

Design for events

This canopy has a wide functionality, and is widely used for various events. For summer cottages, they are made in different stylistic solutions, where there is a place for both minimalism and luxurious baroque. Unusual will be, for example, a black and white version of a retro-style tent, where you can have parties in ancient traditions.

Tip: When choosing a tent, pay attention to the materials and construction specifics, as you may need to seek help from specialists to install it.

Traditionally, such large models are not used for summer cottages. If a family event requires a canopy of this form, it is best to buy a structure from an organization that will install it itself.

Model for suburban area

Country options are usually assembled and installed independently, and do not require the help of specialists. We advise you to immediately buy a tent with a mosquito net included.

To date, the most popular form has become in the form of a tent, so it is not always possible to say exactly what type such a canopy belongs to. It combines elements of different designs.

Tip: you should not buy a tent if polyethylene was used to make it.

Although it will protect from the sun, rain and wind, there will be increased humidity inside it, resembling a greenhouse. Therefore, it is better to purchase hinged structures for summer cottages, where PVC fabrics were used in production. Such products are more expensive, as innovative material is used. But they will last for years without losing their technical and operational characteristics.

How to sew a camping tent

Details Sergei Fedoseev

Today you can buy tourist tents of various shapes and sizes, but you can also sew them yourself. And the point is not that it will turn out half as cheap, but that you can sew an awning to your requirements and do it exactly the way you need it. Well, I just like to do everything myself, because the process itself is interesting. And today we will talk about how to sew a camping tent with your own hands.

The first thing is to find the right fabric. In smaller cities, this can be a serious problem. You don't often find tourist fabrics in stores. I had a hard time finding the green one, as I was told "tent fabric" without a name. Most likely it was Oxford. The price is 75 rubles. behind running meter was more than attractive and I bought 8 meters. Fabric width 1.5 meters. If you sew two pieces of 4 meters each, you just get a 3x4 meter awning, which is what I need.

Please note that in stores often the fabric is not cut off, but torn off from the roll along the fibers. But the weaving of the threads in the cut does not correspond to the parallel-perpendicular axes of the roll. Thus, the torn edge of the fabric will not be perpendicular to the side of the cut. And, if you need the exact geometry of the product in ready-made, take the fabric with a margin, at least half a meter and cut strictly at right angles.

I cut my piece of fabric in half. Along the edges there is a strip with punctures and deformation of the fabric, which remains during production. All this needs to be cut off, at least from those sides that will be sewn together in the middle of the tent. If the fabric has a front side, then fold the two pieces face to face. The bottom layer should protrude 5-6 millimeters from the top.

We wrap these 5 millimeters up and sew on a typewriter.

Then upper layer bend towards the seam, as if unfolding an awning. And we sew so that the line goes along the edge of the wrapped strip, retreating from it 2-3 mm. For convenience, you can turn the awning over and sew from the wrong side.

The seam must be treated with some kind of impregnation so that it does not let water through. There are different recipes for self-breeding, or you can use shop means.

Now you need to process the perimeter of the tent. We turn the fabric from the front side to the wrong side by 5 millimeters, then we sew it again in the same way.

To make it easier and faster to install an awning, I decided to sew loops around the perimeter. I don't like eyelets in this regard. They tear out over time with a good load. The hinge points need to be reinforced. To do this, I cut out 6x6 cm squares from dense leatherette and sewed them into place under the loops.

Then he cut the same pieces of tape, which hemmed trousers, bent them and ironed them a little to fix the shape. It remains to sew the loops on the squares around the perimeter of the tent.

Here, in general, that's all. The tent is ready and you can test it in the next trip.

The awning turned out to be about 1.4 kg. weight, which is quite comparable with some store models. Spent 600 rubles. with little (2015). On time - several hours of cutting and sewing. The result, I think, is very good, except that I would like to make the weight a little less.

An awning with such an arrangement of loops can be easily installed in the form of a tent.

Well, if all this trouble with sewing seemed to you a complicated and unnecessary task, you can simply buy a ready-made awning. For example, NovaTour has similar awnings in several sizes. An awning with similar dimensions weighs even a little lighter than 1.3 kg. The main difference from the awning described in the article is a ridge reinforced with a sling, and a different arrangement of loops for braces.

Speaking about the construction of a canopy for recreation, it must be said about what they are. If this is an outing to a lake or a river for a picnic, then the canopy should be collapsible and light, have a fairly stable frame. The canopy can be without a frame, in the form of a large piece of awning fabric with ropes along the edges, this is the simplest type of canopy. However, for its fastening, tall and strong trees will be required. Pulling a collapsible canopy with your own hands will not take much time, any adult can handle it.

If it is proposed to spend the rest in the country or in the courtyard of a private house, then in this case the canopies can be very different, including collapsible ones. One of the quickly installed canopies is a country sliding canopy. It is attached to the wall of the house on brackets. By pressing a button on the control panel, the canopy unfolds, covering the area near the house from the sun. Country canopies of this type save from rain and ultraviolet rays.

Installing such a canopy with your own hands is not difficult. It also has the advantage that the canopy can be rolled up very quickly when needed, for example, if a strong wind rises or at night when you want to lie down in the open, admiring the stars, or roll it up for winter time. You can pull such a canopy both over the porch of the house and over the terrace. Sliding canopies can also be freestanding, but an open area is needed to equip such a recreation area.

Most often, people build canopies in the country more reliable so that they can be used not only temporarily, each time assembling or disassembling the canopy, but also permanently. Such a canopy will save not only from summer heat or rain, but also from hail, sometimes even from snow. Such canopies include a canopy with a roof made of:

  • polycarbonate;
  • corrugated board;
  • metal tiles;
  • awning fabric.

Important! For arranging a recreation area, you should not use corrugated board, as a cheap material. The fact is that during the rain there will be a strong noise from the impact of drops on the roof. This is unlikely to allow you to relax, over time it will only annoy.

If the noise does not scare you, then a corrugated canopy will become a reliable shelter for relaxing in the country. From such material you can make a single-sided or gable roof. To make an arched canopy, it is best to use cellular polycarbonate. Polycarbonate bends easily and takes any shape, and in terms of protective properties it is not inferior to iron. Sheds made of tarpaulin, PVC and acrylic fabrics are also available. The fabric canopy can be removed for the winter.

To make a country canopy with your own hands, you need to stock up necessary materials, they need to be calculated depending on the size of the canopy and the area that the canopy will cover. As for the roof, everything is more or less clear. Let's talk about how it should be supporting structure. For supports, metal poles, glued laminated timber or edged lumber are usually used.

metal poles they will stand for a dozen years, but wooden ones are at best 15, depending on weather conditions. In this case, their installation is as follows:

  • a hole is dug in the ground with a depth of about 60 cm;
  • gravel and sand are poured at the bottom of the pit;
  • then a support is installed in the pit and fixed strictly in a vertical position;
  • then you need to fill the pit with a solution of cement mixed with gravel and sand;
  • allow the cement to harden well for 2-3 days.

In addition, it is possible to concrete the area of the recreation area, especially if the soil in the country is marshy and uneven. And then cover this area with a plank floor or paving slabs.

Consider how to build a canopy in the country with your own hands, using the example of a simple design with pitched roof adjoining the house.

  1. We take a bar with a size of 90x90 mm and a length of 2.5 m in the amount of 4 pieces, and 1 such bar with a length of 4.5 m.
  2. We install the four front supports by concreting to a depth of 50 cm, and we fix the back support on the wall of the house at a height of 2.4 m to make a slope.
  3. Now we connect the back support with the front support with the help of corners with a bar.
  4. We make a frame from a bar 50x50 mm.
  5. We fix a polycarbonate roof on a wooden grate, laying the sheets with the side with UV protection up.

It is necessary to fasten sheets of cellular polycarbonate to bolts with a rubber washer, and this must be done tightly, but do not press the bolt into the sheet.

  • A drain can be screwed along the front edge of the roof.
  • To build a canopy with metal frame, it will be necessary to carry out welding work. This option for creating a recreation area is not suitable in all cases. Firstly, this is an expensive option, and secondly, you need special equipment, which means you will have to order work from a construction company. If you are interested, the video below shows an example of how you can do metal canopy do-it-yourself recreation areas.

    It is much easier to build a canopy of PVC pipes and curtains for the bathroom with your own hands. For a recreation area in a country house in the midst of a hot summer day, this is great option. For such a canopy you will need:

    • two bathroom curtains measuring 2.4 x 2 m;
    • a piece of thick fabric for loops;
    • two PVC pipes with a diameter of 25-30 mm and a length of 6 meters.

    The curtains are sewn together in height, that is, they are folded with a side of 2.4 m and sewn on a machine. You will get a rectangle with a width of 2.4 m and a length of 4 m. Loops of dense fabric are sewn along the long sides. The optimal step between the loops is 15 cm. Next, PVC tubes are threaded into the loops, and then their ends are dug into the ground to a depth of 30-40 cm, as in the photo. An excellent canopy in the country from the sun is ready. Think of the internal arrangement of such a recreation area yourself.

    So, a canopy for a recreation area is simply necessary. Even the simplest, made from improvised materials, canopy will cover you from the sun and allow you to spend time outside. And therefore, without hesitation, equip yourself with such a corner in the fresh air.

    It is good to relax in the summer in the country, but when the sun is very hot, you want to hide in the shade. It happens that in the summer cottage there is no opportunity to relax in the shade of trees. And then you can shade a small area in the courtyard of a private house with the help of a canopy or gazebo. It is very simple to make a simple canopy in the country house on your own - you just need to install supports and fix a roof of one or another material on them.
    Even beginners will cope with the work, and more experienced craftsmen can turn this design into a real decoration of the site.

    There are several ways to make a simple canopy with your own hands from improvised materials.

    Usually summer cottages have a rather limited space and such a fabric canopy will be a great addition to summer holidays.
    Moreover, any improvised materials are suitable for the realization of this idea.

    • For a quick construction of a canopy from the sun, you will need 4 supports (long sticks 2 - 2.5 meters), 4 containers for installing supports and any material for the awning.
    • Instead of sticks, you can use wooden bars, bamboo sticks, metal supports for climbing plants and even pvc pipes.
    • bucket containers, flower pots etc. needed to install and secure supports.
    • For an awning, an old bedspread, tablecloth or regular sheet is suitable.

    The idea of building a fabric canopy is simple to the point of disgrace and it is surprising why it is so rarely used! But everything is very simple.

    It is necessary to install supports in the prepared containers and fill them with any material at hand - soil, sand, gravel. Ideally, it's better to use cement mortar. Then you will be sure that the supports are securely fastened.

    Then everything is simple - depending on what you will use as an awning, place the supports at the selected distance and stretch the awning between them, tying the ends with a rope.

    Everything, an impromptu canopy made of fabric for giving is ready. Its special advantage is that when leaving for the city, you can fold and store the canopy in the pantry.

    If it is possible to attach a tent to a tree branch, then this will be an ideal place to relax.

    PVC pipes are so easy to use that craftsmen constantly find different uses for them. Of these, you can build an original garden canopy and even a full-fledged gazebo. The process will not take much time, and the result will please you. Despite its simplicity, the construction of plastic water pipes will turn out to be reliable and will perform its functions perfectly.

    For a garden canopy with your own hands, you will need PVC pipes for the frame, 4 pieces of reinforcement, awning fabric, twine (if necessary) and flower pots optional. Be sure to check that the pins go inside the pipe. The inner diameter of the pipes is 12 mm and they are connected to each other by tees and fittings.

    An awning made of any dense fabric, the edges can be pulled to the pipes with nylon twine, or the edges can be sewn to thread the pipes inside.

    The construction of a wooden canopy with your own hands near a private house is based on several stages.

    It is important to choose the right materials, prepare all the tools. After that, you can proceed to the arrangement of the foundation for mounting the frame. Work should be completed by installing truss system and laying slate.

    Materials from tree species. Durable pine is most suitable. An array of this reliable wood is able to decorate any exterior. The ease of use of pine is due to the not too large weight of the material.

    The selection of materials depends on the size of the future canopy. Not the last role is played by functional purpose. Before arranging the structure, it is important to draw up a diagram. The wooden canopy consists of the following main elements:

    • walls or screens - 5 pcs.;
    • racks - 6 pcs.;
    • bars or boards - 4 pcs.;
    • crates;
    • roofing material.

    Structural elements can be connected using anchors, metal corners. To check the evenness of the joints, experienced craftsmen recommend using the building level.

    Before laying the foundation, it is important to choose the type of foundation correctly, coordinating it with the canopy design scheme. All dimensions of the structure and its foundation must be calculated in advance.

    If you do not provide for an additional foundation for a wooden canopy, then you can drive the support pillars for the canopy into pre-prepared pits. To drill wells, it is enough to have a drill, but an ordinary shovel will do. The pits should be located on the same line and have a depth of about 50 cm.

    To check the horizontalness of the foundation being built, a building level is required.

    Support posts should be installed at a distance of 1 m from each other. This will ensure that the awning hangs at a distance of 2 m, and the side structural elements - by 0.5-1 m. Before filling the pits with concrete mortar, they should be covered with crushed stone for maximum stability of the frame.

    For precise laying of the rafters, the bars should be cut in height with a bevel at an angle corresponding to the slope of the future canopy roof. Racks should not have a height of less than 1.8 m. To cover a span of 6 m, bars with a section size of 150x50 mm will be enough. You can make rafters out of them, placing them at a distance of 1 m from each other.

    If use soft material type of tarpaulin, then it can be fixed like curtains, and be able to push them apart in cloudy weather.

    Thus, using our advice, you can make not only a simple temporary canopy in the country, but also a stationary one, more like a gazebo.

    At the dacha or in the adjacent area, a frame canopy made of an awning is a necessary, useful thing. And the idea is not new - they began to install awnings and awnings (and they are different, although very similar) from the sun a long time ago. Over time, the designs from simple ones were transformed into geometrically complex ones, and controllability and the ability to fold / unfold were added to the “just an awning on a frame”.

    Becoming technically more complex and durable, canopies and awnings remained functional and beautiful, memorable. They still protect people and equipment from the sun, rain and snow, and any summer resident or homeowner can build some of these structures with their own hands. Main:

    Even the simplest canopy for a summer residence will require calculations and a drawing, which is quite easy to compile in the Microsoft Visio program for a more or less competent PC user.

    Optimal size such a structure, as practice shows - 3.2 m (in length) x 2.5 m (in width). The height will have to be considered taking into account the growth of the tallest member of the family. And if you focus on a height of 1.82 m, then at the edges the height of the planned canopy will be 1.9 m, and in the middle - 2.2 m.

    To arrange a strong reliable frame, you will need 4 supporting vertical racks (50 mm x 100 mm x 2.1 m) - one on each side of the future canopy. They can be made wooden by choosing stronger hardwood material. Based on the height of the racks, the length of the rafters is calculated and desired angle under which these rafters should be fixed. For example, if you take boards 130 cm long, then each two will need to be connected to each other at an angle of 15 °.

    According to the available data, you need to build a drawing.

    In progress independent work over a simple tent in the country, of course, you will need tools. The set is simple and available for purchase (or borrowing) by everyone:

    • garden drill(can be homemade);
    • hacksaw for woodworking;
    • cordless screwdriver;
    • and furniture stapler.

    Before further assembling the rafters, it is necessary to mark the future details. For convenience, for some smooth surface you can draw a triangle with a base of 250 cm and a perpendicular from its middle equal to 40 cm. According to this “pattern”, on each prepared rafter board it will be convenient to mark an angle of 15 °, and then saw off the unnecessary with a hacksaw.

    Using galvanized screws (4.2 x 31 mm), prepared boards are assembled into rafters (3 screws for every 2 boards). There should be 4 sets in total. They will check in the process of work and check the final result according to the drawing - the rafters themselves, and the connecting bar, and the places of fastening with screws should be marked there.

    To test the rafters for strength even before assembling the structure, you can stand on them. It will also be necessary to protect the wooden parts of the future canopy by treating them with a special impregnation against moisture and negative biological activity (bugs, mold, fungus).

    First you need to fix (dig in and fill with mortar, or you can even fill it with brick fragments) in the designated place two main racks - opposite each other. This is done taking into account the level of the slope of the site. Further, with a marking rope, right angles are measured from the base pillars, and then the pillars of the right row are securely dug in, then the left row.

    Now is the time to arrange the first set of rafters - with screws on one post, then on the other (here you need an assistant, one cannot do it). You should get the first arch of the “entrance” from the racks and the rafters crowning them. Further - according to the "scheme". But first, the last arch of the "exit" is assembled, and only then - two internal ones, the second and the third.

    Created wooden frame of the future simple canopy in the suburban area needs to be strengthened. For these purposes, 4 are quite suitable. wooden planks, 160 cm long, 2 cm thick and 15 cm wide, which will go along the very top of the supporting racks, around the entire perimeter. Plus 3 more boards (10 cm x 9 cm x 1.5 cm), which will already lie on the ridge of the rafters. And only on such a frame the canopy will stand firmly, not being afraid even of serious bad weather with a strong wind.

    For a temporary version of the canopy, even a piece of a polyethylene sleeve (7 x 3 m) in two layers is quite suitable, which can be pulled over the structure, aligned and secured under a synthetic parachute sling using a furniture stapler, with 10 mm brackets.

    But such an awning will protect people and equipment from rain, and not from sunlight. Yes, and it will not withstand snow drifts, therefore, in any case, this coating is for one season, no longer. If you need to arrange something more solid, you will have to carve out an awning from special textiles.

    An awning on a frame is able to protect windows, balconies, terraces or part of the yard from the sun, rain, snow and wind. It can be decorated with a hinged structure (awning) or ground, including adjacent to a wall or other support. And it is very important, if you build a canopy or an awning yourself, to correctly choose the fabric for them. This material should be:

    • special acrylic;
    • durable;
    • water repellent;
    • airtight;
    • protecting from harmful UV rays.

    It is correct to choose a material of a light shade for an awning so as not to shade the protected space too much (whether it be a room or part of the yard). As for prints, striped awnings in 2 colors, plain visors or with African-style ornaments are in fashion today. Fabrics can be used smooth or textured.

    The frame for the awning is a little more complicated in self-manufacturing than a frame for a simple country tent. And one of the strongest and lightest such structures is aluminum in hollow tubes. But even if you use steel tubes, you need to choose those with an aluminum coating that reliably protects the base from corrosion.

    However, even before choosing a material, it is necessary to decide on the design of the future frame and on what kind of mechanism will be used to fold the awning (if any mechanism is used at all).

    The framework for an awning is the most complex element when making a marquise with your own hands. Therefore, before proceeding with it, it is necessary to think over and calculate everything properly.

    The dimensions of the future awning depend on:

    1. The width of the balcony or window, the size of the terrace.
    2. Departure length (that is, how far it will extend).
    3. Design features future frame for the awning.

    From a simple canopy with a fixed frame, the awning is distinguished by several characteristic points:

    • one side is attached to the wall of the house;
    • this design folds / twists without dismantling the frame;
    • the system can be equipped with automated control.

    The simplest awning is slanted, placed on the window. It is easy to assemble it with your own hands, having previously bought all the necessary mechanisms and materials. You will need tubes to assemble the frame, as well as a folding mechanism and fabric for the awning right size.

    The first thing to do when designing such an awning is to attach a mechanism that folds the canvas to the house wall. You can’t assemble it yourself, you will have to buy ready-made. They are available in specialized hardware stores.

    Such a mechanism is mounted on the brackets that it is equipped with. It happens that an awning is already filled in it, but the minus of such a decision is that it will no longer be possible to choose the colors of textiles on your own. But there will be no problems with cutting, sewing and fasteners.

    There are options without an awning, here you can show imagination and a sense of taste, choosing matter. Moreover, there will be no problems with fixing the selected fabric; such mechanisms are sold accompanied by detailed instructions on this matter.

    To make the tent inclined, the frame is decorated with the letter P. And it should be located not lower than the middle of the window, but rather 20-30 centimeters above it. Brackets should be attached to the wall, and then, using the axial hinge mechanism, it remains to attach the frame - from the window to the left or right. That is why the awning is already attached to the frame with its free end.

    When the mechanism that folds the canvas is turned on, the fabric of the awning begins to be wound onto a special shaft, the frame, together with the fabric, rises to the top, and then is fixed there.

    It is not necessary to make a frame for a metal awning. As in the case of a simple awning in the country, you can make it out of strong hardwood. A timber is suitable if it is pre-treated good antiseptic. And to add visual aesthetics, wood is painted or covered with ship varnish.

    True, such a frame is not as durable as steel or aluminum, because it is still subject to negative damp effects, and insects will tend to damage it. Besides, wooden frame may dry out in direct sunlight, crack, etc.

    If someone is not sure about own forces, it is better not to take on a mechanized awning, but to make a simple canopy adjacent to the wall of the house on a fixed frame. It would be more correct to choose a simple option and cope with it perfectly, and not take on a complex structure and translate the material in vain, wasting time and effort. And if you really want to design something truly unusual, bright, stylish, you should use the services of professionals.

    A canopy is a simple type of structure, the main task of which is protection from sunlight and precipitation. The value of a canopy for a country house is very large, so it is important to know whether it is possible to install it yourself, what types of structures are available and what materials are used to create it. It is worth noting that they can be both small and large-scale, used to protect the entrance to a house or car, and so on.

    Canopy for a summer residence: classification and types

    Before you start building a canopy, you need to find out for what purposes it is needed, whether it is used continuously or only in the summer. Based on this, choose the materials and type of construction that best suit the needs of the homeowner. In general, all canopies can be divided into two categories:

    • Capital construction - durable and wear-resistant materials with a long service life are used for construction.
    • Seasonal canopy - light and simple design, which can be quickly dismantled at the end of the summer season.

    Also, based on the type of construction, sheds can be separate or created as an extension to the country house. Separate canopies are often used for outbuildings, protecting a car or firewood from snow and rain. Some craftsmen equip a canopy for a small gazebo, so you can enjoy nature there or fry kebabs, gathering everyone under one roof in the fresh air. If the canopy is attached to the house, then it is often done on the south side, later a terrace is installed under it.

    Supports for the structure can be metal or wooden. At the same time, it is important to choose roofing material, among the most popular options for roofing:

    • Slate.
    • profiled sheet.
    • Tiling.
    • Textile.
    • Polycarbonate.
    • Reeds.

    Capital canopies for summer cottages, created for the year

    Such a design should be used year-round, the period of its operation can be up to 50 years. In this regard, it is necessary to carefully approach the organization of the canopy and its creation. The supports are reliably concreted, after which they are combined with the roof to create reliable protection from the sun, wind, snow and rain. For the construction of a canopy, it is necessary to use materials that can last long term.

    metal awnings

    To create a roof, you can use a durable and reliable metal material - a profiled sheet, which is considered the best option for creating a high-quality canopy. This material does not transmit light and creates a good shadow, however, like any metal, it quickly heats up in the sun, so it is not advisable to use it on the south side of a country house. A canopy made of profiled sheet is the best option for protecting a car, firewood and other household needs.

    For the frame you need corners or steel pipes that increase the rigidity of the structure. Before buying a material, you need to know about its characteristics. Modifications of corrugated board are determined by the thickness of the steel sheet and the height of the corrugation, in general, the higher these indicators, the stronger construction. The best option for a canopy is a bearing or wall profiled sheet, the thickness of which is not less than 0.8 mm, and the height of the corrugation is not less than 35 mm. If you use a thinner material, it can bend and quickly begin to leak.

    Metal tile is an attractive material that combines strength and long service life. The canopy looks original if the roof of the cottage is also made of metal tiles, which creates a single picture. The thickness of the metal should be no less than 0.5 mm. If you use more thin metal, then the period of operation of the canopy can be drastically reduced.

    For roofing works you need to remember that the metal tile can only be installed on wooden crate, the details of which need to be pre-impregnated and treated with antiseptics. For fasteners, you need to use self-tapping screws, which are installed in a checkerboard pattern, the fastening frequency is through the wave. All sheets must be overlapped, otherwise the structure may be torn off by the wind.

    Modern polycarbonate awnings

    IN Lately the option of creating a canopy made of polycarbonate has become very popular. The reason for the popularity is an attractive appearance, light weight construction and long service life. The material transmits light, easily covers large areas, providing comfortable conditions and reliable protection from the negative impact of the environment.

    Polycarbonate is a flexible material, so it can be used to create canopies of the original shape, for example, arched roofs. The standard sheet length is from 6 to 12 meters, the cutting step is 1 meter. Combine sheets into a solid surface using a connecting profile. For supports, metal corners are used; for overlapping, a galvanized profile is used. If the roof is commensurate with the length of the sheet, then installation work are greatly simplified.

    Seasonal awnings made of fabric or tarpaulin

    Tarpaulin is the best option for creating a seasonal canopy at their summer cottage, as it holds up well Sun rays and precipitation, while having a low cost. The finished canvas can be bought at any hardware store, and special holes with metal eyelets will simplify installation.

    Installation steps:

    • Attached to the wall under the roof wooden block(section - 50 * 50 mm) using dowels, the length of the bar depends on the size of the canopy.
    • On the opposite side they dig into the ground wooden poles, whose height is lower than the height of the installed bar (it is necessary to create an angle of inclination of the coating so that rainwater rolls off it).
    • Between the pillars and the wall of the country house, using self-tapping screws, 3 support rails are installed, due to which a square of the future roof is created.
    • Installing a tarp whose edges are padded construction stapler to the beam, after which they are pressed with a narrow rail and self-tapping screws. The free edges of the canopy are tied through the holes to the support rails.

    Also, instead of a tarpaulin, fabric awnings or awnings can be used, but they are more common in southern regions with little rainfall. The fabric will reliably protect from the sun, creating a pleasant shade, while letting in fresh air. Using fabric with special impregnation, you can create comfortable conditions and a reliable canopy for a minimum of money.

    Do-it-yourself canopies for summer cottages from corrugated board and plain fabric

    Arriving in the summer at the cottage, so you want to spend more time in the fresh air! But this is not always possible: at noon, the scorching sun rays drive us out of the street and force us to sit in country houses. Therefore, in order to prolong the pleasure of communicating with nature, it is necessary to protect part of the site from the sun. This is easy to do - just build a canopy with your own hands.

    What canopies for summer cottages are and what distinguishes them?

    Having decided to build a canopy in the country, first decide on its design. In fact, the appearance of this design can be very different. It can be a canopy over the house, imitate a porch, a gazebo or a terrace.

    According to their location, canopies are:

  • Attached

  • They are located close to the wall of the building, so one side of them is closed, and the other three are open. An attached canopy can be very functional. For example, if it is located above the front door, it acts as a visor or veranda. On reverse side At home, it is quite possible to adapt it under the patio.

  • Freestanding

  • Such canopies are very reminiscent of a pergola, differing from it only in the obligatory presence of a roof. Such canopies are most often used as a gazebo or parking for a car. Sometimes such canopies completely block the path leading from the gate to front door Houses.

    According to the design of the roof, canopies are divided into:

  • Direct

  • These canopies are the easiest to make.

  • oblique shape

  • A similar design (single or gable) contributes to the flow of rainwater or melting snow from the canopy.

  • complex shape

  • Among such canopies, the most popular was the arched canopy with a semicircular curved roof. Despite the "complex" characteristics, such a design can be done independently. The metal profile (small diameter, of course) and the profiled sheet bend remarkably.

    Country awnings are made of various materials. Materials for covering the roof are especially diverse - it can be corrugated board, polycarbonate, plexiglass, metal tiles, slate and even dense fabric (for the manufacture of awnings). As for the frame, most often it is wooden or metal, less often - concrete, brick, stone.

    Polycarbonate canopy manufacturing technology

    A canopy with a polycarbonate roof is considered the most modern and easy to manufacture option. This material is strong, durable and does not lose its properties when exposed to cold, sun and precipitation. It bends well, so the roof of the canopy can take almost any shape, be it roundness or waves. For the installation of polycarbonate sheets, self-tapping screws with a rubber washer are used, which protects the material from cracking.

    The area over which a polycarbonate canopy can be built can be any. The main thing is to install a solid frame made of wooden beams or metal profile.

    Let's look at how you can make such a wooden canopy with your own hands with a polycarbonate roof. It adjoins the wall of a residential building, creating a cozy terrace. A slight slope of the roof allows atmospheric precipitation to independently drain from the canopy without forming stagnant puddles on the surface.

    Before work, in order to avoid rotting, all wooden elements structures are painted with primer and paint.

    The supporting pillars of the canopy are a wooden beam 90x90 mm (there are 5 of them in total). Please note that the height of the front legs is 1.96 m, and one rear leg is 2.3 m.

    Before the start of construction, the marking of the territory is carried out, reflecting the position wooden poles canopy. At the points obtained, pits of square diameter with a depth of 50 cm are dug. The width of the pit should be 10 cm greater than the width of the support beam. In our example, ready-made forms are used as foundation foundations, which are dug into the ground. You can do it differently: pour a crushed stone pillow into the dug hole, tamp it down, then lower the beam, using building level check its verticality and concrete.

    In our case, the support bars are fixed to the foundations using metal corners or brackets.

    Since the canopy in the country house will adjoin the house with its own hands, a 90x70 mm beam is horizontally fixed on the wall (two beams in the photo). Subsequently, he will play the role of a crossbar that carries the weight of the rafters and battens.

    The horizontal beam is connected to a long stand (2.3 m) using a metal corner.

    Two horizontal crossbars from a 90x70 mm beam are also fixed between the front pillars. The connection is made using metal corners. It is not recommended to use self-tapping screws for this - this is unreliable and threatens to collapse the entire structure.

    It can be said that the main structural elements canopy ready. Now it's time to "collect" the rafters. There are five of them in total and they are made of timber with a section of 70x70 mm. The rafters are laid on top of the crossbars and fixed with self-tapping screws. To connect with a horizontal beam on the wall, metal corners are used.

    For the crate, long bars of a small section, for example, 50x50 cm, are suitable. They are laid horizontally across the rafters and fixed with self-tapping screws.

    Decking (profiled sheet, plexiglass, etc.) is also attached to the crate with self-tapping screws.

    In the proposed example, the canopy is equipped with a metal gutter to drain rainwater into a PVC downpipe. This way you can avoid unpleasant drops flowing down from the canopy after the end of the rain.

    Do-it-yourself canopy from corrugated board

    A fairly popular material for a canopy is also corrugated board, it is especially often used to make the roof of a personal parking lot. It should be borne in mind that the profiled sheet transmits less light than polycarbonate, therefore, under such a canopy, the shadow curtain will be stronger.

    Since we have already considered how to build a canopy with our own hands from wood, let's focus on the option when the frame is made of a metal profile. Let's look at the photo below: this structure consists of four support posts, on top of which there are main beams and a crate covered with corrugated board.

    The construction of such a canopy is almost no different from the previous version. The difference is that its roof rests solely on uprights and does not come into contact with the wall of the house.

    The beginning of construction begins with the determination of the position points of the vertical supports, made of a profiled pipe with a section of 60x40 mm. The pitch of the racks is usually 1 m, however, you can vary this distance, depending on the thickness of the profiled sheet, the size of the profiled pipes. Having decided on the markings, they dig holes for supports, their depth is 50-60 cm. A crushed stone pillow is laid at the bottom of the hole and the support is set vertically. The foundation is poured with concrete.

    After the concrete has completely hardened (as a rule, it can withstand a week), you can proceed with the installation of horizontal beams with a section of 50x30 mm, which are fixed to the supports by welding. This may be the reason why many refuse this option: a canopy from a metal profile with their own hands can only be done by someone who knows the basics of welding and has a welding machine.

    The next step is to weld the crates of 50x30 mm pipes to the horizontal beams.

    After that, one thing remains: to fix sheets of corrugated board on the crate. This is done with self-tapping screws.

    Canopies in the yard made of fabric

    If you don't want to mess with complex structures canopies made of metal or wood, we recommend that you pay attention to light awnings made of dense fabric. They are sold already with a ready-made metal frame that is attached to the wall, so there is no need to build anything additional. A special advantage of this design is the ability to quickly remove the awning by simply folding it - special levers and automation allow you to do this in a second.

    A fabric awning can also be made independently, but then it will not differ much from profiled sheet or polycarbonate buildings, although the appearance of such a canopy will be more picturesque and interesting. This canopy from the sun can be made by constructing a metal frame and putting on it a cloth of bright fabric.

    In the 50s BC, merchants from ancient rome built canopies to protect the goods from rain and sun. Almost 18 centuries later, the first patent for a prefabricated canopy was issued. retractable today awnings for the same purpose, they are used for arranging terraces, extensions to the house, in order to provide comfortable rest on air.

    Awning over the terrace - what is it?

    The device refers to a stationary structure that can be repeatedly assembled and deployed over windows or platforms near the facade of the building. Widespread use is due to both versatility in terms of application and undoubted advantages:

    • ability to absorb sunlight up to 85%;
    • water resistance with light precipitation;
    • blade durability with proper maintenance.

    The device is attached to the wall of the building. Natural or artificial fabric is extended by 3.5 m, while its width is up to 12 m. If there is a need to increase the covered area along the wall, then the canopy is assembled from several elements.

    Distinguish finished goods according to several characteristics:

    • vertical and horizontal;
    • by type of opening: roll-lever, roll and;
    • by location: window, balcony, terrace and pergola;
    • by type of control: with electric drive and manual (tape, worm);
    • inclined are also divided into open, semi-cassette and cassette.

    All this diversity is also complemented by built-in sun or wind sensors. Thus, the canvas is straightened or folded automatically without human intervention.

    For verandas, summer cafes and terraces, they are more often used. They are good because the canvas can have a large area, and the mechanism prevents the fabric from sagging. Such products are easily and quickly assembled, they do not look massive on the facade. No less important is the fact that there are no additional support posts. That is, nothing prevents free movement.

    Protective function of the terrace awning against rain, wind and snow

    A military leader from medieval Italy gave the order to build canopies over the spacious windows of his mansion. He did it for the sake of a young 12-year-old concubine. The condottiere was very fascinated by her attractive appearance, so with the help of woven fabrics with a frame, he wanted to protect the whiteness of her skin from the sun.

    The modern one is set up so that the slope of the terrace canopy is at an angle. The awning is made of dense material. It is treated with special impregnations, which significantly reduce the ability of the canvas to absorb moisture. The surface of the material is usually smooth, sometimes glossy. All of the above provide relaxing holiday during light rain. Water simply flows off the fabric outside the fenced area.

    More often, acrylic, polyvinyl chloride or polyester fabric is used as an awning. These materials are distinguished not only by low water absorption, but also by high weaving density. Due to this, the sun's rays practically do not penetrate such a barrier. And under the canvas a pleasant atmosphere is created in a light shade.

    As for the wind, the protection of horizontal models from air currents is somewhat relative. On the bottom, of course, the canopy cannot do anything. But from the upper masses, and they are always more powerful, the fabric covers. The main thing is that the walls to which the mechanism is attached are strong enough to withstand the load of the product and the natural phenomenon.

    You can get out with the help of a veranda or terraces. Only for their installation will need a support system. Initially, such models were created to cover windows, so the installation was supposed to be on the walls. If there is a frame, then temporary partitions can be built. Here they will fully protect vacationers from wind and dust. The exception is strong gusts, squall.

    species difference

    Designs, mechanisms, functionality and decorative aspects are reflected in the constant expansion of the range. Exist ready-made options, are made, and some craftsmen assemble a prefabricated / collapsible roof for relaxation in an extension to the house.

    Retractable terrace awnings

    This type can be considered the most popular option. This is due to the simplicity and ease of use. An awning can cover a relatively large area. And when assembled, it looks like a roll, and next to it is a small bar. If it is, then outwardly everything will look like a neat long box.

    Vertical awnings for terraces

    Initially, in hot countries, moistened fabrics were hung on window and doorways to escape the heat. appeared much later in South America. With their help, residents were protected from natural disasters.

    Vertical retractable terrace awnings are in some ways very similar to metal lamella curtains, which today are wound on a cardan shaft. Only in the case of a canopy, artificial or natural fabric is used. Installation is more often done above windows, on balconies. And in the case of open veranda temporary walls and partitions can be installed. Only such barriers do not cope with any load.

    Automatic awnings for terraces

    For the terrace is provided in two ways. Or a sensor is installed that reacts to the sun, precipitation or wind. Or an electric motor is built in, and you can start it using a remote control. Then it will not be necessary to make efforts to assemble and expand the fabric.

    Elbow awning for terrace

    A popular type of structure is distinguished by the presence of special mechanisms. They are presented in the form of several strips (from 2 to 4 folds form), which, when unbent, stretch the awning, and when bent, ensure an even distribution of the fabric on the shaft. It is noteworthy that the degree of disclosure can be fixed in any position in which the owner is interested.

    Cassette awning for terrace

    This kind of ulnar type is considered a long-liver in its group. This is due to the fact that the awning, together with the mechanisms, is completely placed in a protective case after assembly. That is, in winter, for example, the ingress of snow, dirt, and the formation of ice will be excluded. For open models, the canvas and frame part remain accessible to natural phenomena.

    Pergola awning for terrace

    Such a design is notable for the presence of stationary frame elements. That is, in fact, this is almost the most common canopy. Only the awning can be rolled up at any time. relevant for covering large terraces. And also for areas where there are often strong gusts of wind.

    Homemade awning for the terrace

    The easiest option for making your own hands is a vertical awning for terraces. For her, it is not necessary to arrange an elbow mechanism, install springs or a micromotor. It is enough to organize the shaft, make gears on it, fix the fabric and stretch the cords. Homemade vertical awning is ready.

    Alternative options for terrace awnings: awnings

    To protect the veranda from the sun, rain and wind, you can use not only. Stationary canopies can cope with the same task. It is important to maintain a sufficient angle and support system against canvas sagging. Alternative option for both options is a pergola, which combines the wall mount, as well as additional poles.

    Conclusion

    Availability protective housing or a cornice is not enough to serve for a long time and properly. There are a few rules to follow as well. In particular, with heavy rainfall and squally winds, the awning must be rolled up. Dust can be removed with a dry brush or vacuum cleaner. Heavy soiling can be wiped with soapy water. Global cleaning is possible only by the efforts of specialists.

    Manufacturers do not recommend carrying out repairs on their own. And dismantling, if you need to do the finishing of the facade, is allowed on your own. But first you need to consult with the installers.

    For the rest, it will be enough to follow the instructions and recommendations from the manufacturer. Then the sliding awning will provide long-term and reliable protection for vacationers on the summer veranda or terrace.
