Installing a sink above a washing machine. What are brackets. Installing a sink on a suspended shelf

In our life, everything flows, everything changes, the old is replaced by the new. The old sink in the kitchen or bathroom may also require replacement. In any residential area, it is one of the main and indispensable elements of plumbing.

Embed an integrated sink in work surface table with the bracket included in the kit.

Installing a new sink in a kitchen or bathroom can be done by hand.

For this, it is not necessary to have special professional training. How to attach a sink to a wall? First you need to decide on the choice of this product.

Washbasin selection

It is recommended to start with a shopping trip in order to select this very necessary plumbing equipment. There are many models of this product. All of them differ in shape, size and methods of attachment. The sink and washbasin can be wall-mounted, placed on a pedestal or countertop. Each of the methods has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Mounting to the wall leaves a lot of free space under the washbasin. This makes cleaning easier, various items can be placed below. The product must be fastened through the holes in the back with screws from the fastener kit. In the future, a mixer and a siphon are installed on the sink.

A washbasin with a pedestal used to be called a tulip sink. This design allows you to hide the siphon, outlet pipes and hoses inside the pedestal. This gives the room a more attractive look.

An example of a scheme for attaching a sink to a wall.

The pedestal makes it possible to install a more massive, beautiful and functional sink. The tulip shell is attached to the wall with dowels-studs. They are equipped with plastic protective washers. Such washbasins can be installed both in the bathroom and in the kitchen.

In a medium-sized bathroom, many people prefer to install a washbasin with a countertop. It can be a mortise, overhead, built-in sink or monoblock. All of them give a special comfort to the bathroom. The main difference between such a device and a tulip is that it often does not have a hole for the mixer. Therefore, when conducting water supply pipes, they are made so that a mixer can be attached directly to them without the use of flexible hoses.

Tools for the job

To install plumbing, depending on its type, you may need:

  • construction level;
  • perforator with drills;
  • dowel;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • pencil (felt pen, marker);
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • wrench or adjustable wrench;
  • sink;
  • set of fasteners;
  • ruler (preferably meter);
  • hammer;
  • silicone sealant.

Sink Installation Procedure

Perform work on installing a sink with a wall mount in the following order:

Scheme of installation of a sink with a pedestal.

  1. Selecting a location for the product. It is recommended to install the washbasin at a height of 75-85 cm from the floor. In some cases, the height can be changed in one direction or another in order to create ease of use for people of non-standard height.
  2. Using a level, draw a horizontal line at the installation height of the product.
  3. Measure the thickness of the walls of the sink, with which it will rest on the mounting brackets. Set this dimension down from the previously drawn line.
  4. Find the middle rear wall washbasin. Mark this point on the wall.
  5. Measure the distance from the middle of the rear wall to the brackets.
  6. Attach the brackets to the bottom line at a distance equal to the previous measurement, make marks on the wall through the mounting holes with a pencil.
  7. Drill holes in the wall according to the marks, install dowels in them and fix the brackets.
  8. Install the sink on the brackets. Make marks through the holes in its back wall.
  9. Remove the sink, drill holes, install dowels.
  10. Put everything in place and finally fix it with the fasteners from the kit.
  11. Install a siphon and connect the system to the sewer.
  12. Seal the gaps between the sink and the wall with sealant.

Fastening of such a product to the wall is carried out using brackets. They are not included in the kit. When choosing, it is recommended to stop at the kerchief of the desired length.

Sometimes, along with the sink, you have to install a pedestal or cabinet in the bathroom or in the kitchen. In this case, it is not necessary to mark the installation height of the sink. This size is dictated by the height of the pedestal or pedestal.

Washbasin installation drawing

Installing the sink on the pedestal is carried out in the following order:

  • a sink without fittings is installed on a pedestal and moves up to the wall where it will be located;
  • the marker marks the places of drilling holes;
  • the sink and pedestal are removed, holes are drilled. Their depth and diameter must correspond to the length and diameter of the dowels from the fastener kit;
  • dowels are installed in holes, studs are screwed into them.

To attach the faucet to the sink:

  • assemble the mixer according to the instructions for it;
  • install it in a special hole on the sink;
  • firmly fix the mixer on the body of the product;
  • check the symmetry of the installation of the faucet on the sink relative to its center.

Connecting the mixer to the water supply system:

  1. Flexible hoses for water supply are fixed on the mixer. They should have a metal braid and rubber cuffs on the tips. When installing them, do not make great efforts.
  2. The hoses are pulled through the O-ring and the sink opening.
  3. The mixer is attached to the product using spring washers and nuts.
  4. An outlet from the siphon kit is installed in the water drain hole. It is fastened with a screw or nut. It depends on the design. 2 gaskets are installed between the outlet and the sink.
  5. The siphon itself is attached to the outlet, to which the pipe is attached plastic diameter 32-40 mm for connection to the sewer. You can replace it with a corrugated hose of the same diameter.
  6. The sink with a pedestal moves up to the wall and is fixed on it with nuts with protective washers.
  7. Flexible hoses are connected to the water supply, the outlet pipe is connected to the sewer.

Siphon diagram.

Connecting the sink to the sewer:

  1. Assemble the siphon according to the instructions.
  2. Fix it in the drain hole of the sink, turning Special attention on correct location rubber pads.
  3. Connect the siphon hose to the sewer pipe.
  4. experience assembled structure for water leakage. To do this, open the taps and let water with different pressure. If water drops appear, tighten the nuts.

A sink-sink is usually installed in the countertop. Installation of the product in the countertop is carried out after measuring the sink and cabinet. Most sinks are sold with a template that marks and cuts the hole for the sink. If there is no template in the kit, then proceed as follows:

  1. Piece thick paper Lay out on a table or other flat surface.
  2. The product is placed upside down on paper and its contour is outlined with a pencil or felt-tip pen. They retreat from the line at a distance equal to the dimensions of the sides. Cut out the template.

Preparing a recess in a worktop requires great care and precision. A distance of about 5 cm must be left from the edge of the tabletop. The template is applied to the surface and outlined with a pencil. Several holes are drilled along the outlined contour with a drill. If the product is rectangular, then it is enough to drill holes at the corners of the contour. The jigsaw blade is inserted into the hole and a cut is made along the contour. The edges of the sawn recess are sanded and treated with a waterproofing compound.

The sink-sink is attached to the countertop by applying it to the side silicone sealant. After that, it remains to install the siphon and mixer, connect the water. Some models of sinks can be additionally attached to the countertop with special clamps using wrenches and screwdrivers. In the bathroom, such washbasins are usually not used.

Fastening to drywall

In many apartments, the walls are lined various materials. As facing material drywall is often used. If, when finishing the wall, drywall was attached without a frame, then there will not be any special difficulties in installing plumbing. Most often, drywall is mounted on a crate. In this case, an empty space remains between the wall and the cladding. Attaching the sink to such a wall is not very easy. The best way out is to lay wooden bars and a double layer of facing material in the right places when installing the battens for drywall. You can attach a sink or washbasin to these bars. In places where the sink and other items are attached, it is better to replace the drywall with its analogue - a glass-magnesium sheet. A xylofiber sheet, popularly called Chinese drywall, is also suitable.

If drywall is already installed, then there is a way out:

  • using a magnet suspended on a strong thread, you need to find the location of the metal elements of the crate;
  • self-tapping screws are screwed into these places for attaching the sink.

But this method is not always applicable.

There are special fasteners for drywall. The most common are SA-U3, Butterfly mount and Snail dowel. If the drywall on the wall has a thickness of 12 mm or more, then this fastener will fit for attaching the sink to the wall.

The question of how to attach the sink to the wall was not very difficult. Installing a sink of any type with your own hands is a completely doable task. With some skills in mastering elementary tools, any man can handle this job.

A washbasin is a key element of the sanitary and hygienic purpose of any home. The need to replace which may arise due to different reasons. And the comfort and convenience of its subsequent operation depends on how correctly the installation of the sink in the bathroom is carried out.

Plumbing works of this level can be performed by anyone who wishes, if certain rules are followed.

The main stages of work are:

Selection of equipment for installing a sink in the bathroom;

Preliminary preparation of tools and related materials for dismantling the old washbasin and installing a new one;

Dismantling of old equipment;

Direct replacement of the sink with your own hands;

Connecting the tap and connecting it to the water supply;

Connecting the drain to the sewer;

Testing plumbing fixtures for performance.

Do-it-yourself sink installation: preparation

Installing a washbasin in a bathroom requires a well-thought-out solution, not only in terms of aesthetics, functionality, but also in terms of mounting possibilities.

To date, the following options for sinks are offered, differing in the type of installation: wall-mounted, built-in and on a leg.

However, it should be remembered that when replacing the sink in the bathroom, it is necessary to take into account where and how the nodes for connecting to the sewer and the location of the water pipes are located. This will minimize subsequent modifications when installing new equipment.

To "fit" a new sink in place of the previous one, you must first take measurements, which you will rely on when choosing a washbasin. Key parameters– length, width and depth of the washbasin.

To successfully replace the sink with your own hands, you may need the following tools and materials:

A set of screwdrivers, pliers;

Special plumbing keys;

Connecting pipes;

Silicone sealant;

Spatula, bucket, rag.

Remember: do-it-yourself sink replacement begins with blocking the source of water supply.

As a rule, the main valve is located at the inlet in front of the water meter or directly under the sink itself. After closing it, make sure that hot and cold water does not flow.

Do-it-yourself sink installation: dismantling

1. To replace the bathroom sink, first you need to disconnect water pipes from the faucet. Be careful, as this may result in the leakage of accumulated water. Prepare a bucket and a rag in advance.

2. Find the place where the sink drain siphon and drain to the sewer connect. Using a tool, disconnect the sink from the drain by directing the siphon socket towards the bucket.

3. Using an adjustable wrench, dismantle the water supply system (cold and hot flow).

4. Remove the fasteners that secure the sink to the wall.

5. Using a spatula, carefully remove the old sealant and separate the sink from the wall and contact surface.

6. Remove the old sink and clean the installation area for the new sink.

To competently replace the sink with your own hands, consider the size of the new equipment: analyze whether there is enough space to install it in the old place. It is convenient to use a specially made template or just a tape measure. Often, ready-made templates for a sink cutout are included with the sink. Perhaps, given the new dimensions, the replacement of the bathroom sink will require additional work.

In case of installation of faucets and a faucet from an old washbasin on new equipment, remove the faucets and fix them on the new sink, do not forget to treat the joints with sealant.

Usually new sinks come with clamps and screws. The crane is completed with drain. If not, purchase additional hardware separately. Make sure that the supply pipes match the faucet and fittings under the washing surface.

Do-it-yourself sink installation: INSTALLATION

1. When installing the sink in the bathroom, you must first apply a layer of silicone sealant to the bottom base of the upper "lip" of the washbasin, and then fix it to the place of the old equipment, into the recess on the wall. Fix the sink in the hole, remove excess silicone.

In the event that the installation of the sink in the bathroom requires fastening to the wall or a stone counter is used, then you will need to pre-prepare the areas for fixing the equipment - drill holes in the wall. This requires diamond-tipped drills.

2. Fasten the washbasin with clips, following the instructions step by step.

3. Install the shank drain siphon. If a gasket is included between the shank and the sink, then secure it with a nut, locknut and cardboard washer. At the point of connection to the sewer, an additional seal of the appropriate configuration will be required. When connecting pipes, use Teflon tape or special gaskets as a sealant.

4. When connecting a faucet to a water pipe, use hoses of sufficient length so as not to stress the connections. Tighten them with wrench. The tightening force must not be excessive, so as not to destroy the sealing gasket.

5. Treat all cracks and joints with sealant and let it dry for a day.

6. Testing plumbing for performance. Open the valve, then turn on the faucet. If minor leaks are found at the joints, tighten the fasteners tighter, but do not overdo it. If in some places tightening of the connections does not work, then the seals may have to be replaced.

If a leak is not detected and the entire system is functioning properly, then we can assume that the replacement of the bathroom sink has been successfully completed.

The decor in the bathroom should be stylish, combined with the overall interior of the room. Each element should provide convenience, comfort, this applies to the washbasin. This element is the main one, so you need to approach its arrangement very carefully. Installing a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom does not take too much time, and this element looks very attractive. In addition, now there is a huge variety of cabinets in color, size, style, which will fit perfectly into the design of the room and fit any size of the room.

Washbasin with cabinet selected, now you need to choose appropriate place in the bathroom for its installation. Be sure to consider the dimensions, the product must fit exactly into its place. It would be nice to put it near the bath, it will provide ease of use.

It is better to select the area for the installation of pedestals before work begins on the wiring of communications and pipes.

  • measurements of the bathroom room are made, divided into sections;
  • think over where the location of the bathroom, shower, sink should be;
  • be sure to consider the presence of shelves, drawers. They can become an obstacle for bringing pipes and fittings to connect water to the mixer. It is better to provide for this option earlier, move the shelves so that they do not interfere with plumbing fixtures. You may need to cut it a little, but do it carefully, do not damage the structure of the furniture, do not spoil it appearance;
  • in cases where the sewerage system is out of floor covering, and in this zone it is planned to install a cabinet, then in this case everything is simple. In order for the product to fit into the place, not to violate the sewer elements, its bottom must be cut. Necessarily after trimming the bottom, the edges are treated with a protective base.

How is the installation

The washbasin for the cabinets has been selected, the place has been prepared, we proceed to the installation itself. Usually this piece of furniture is sold together with the necessary fasteners, connecting elements and sometimes they come with the right tools for assembly, installation. There is a diagram or instructions for installation. But it is unlikely that you will have to use a diagram or instructions, usually the design is so simple that you can install it yourself. And if you don’t need to cut, file for plumbing, communications, then it will take a maximum of 1-2 hours.

Pay attention to the quality of accessories

Mixer installation rules

Before you start installing the cabinets, you should put the mixer and siphon:

  • an instruction with an installation diagram should be attached to the mixer, with the help of which this process will become much easier. The kit should include - a few studs, two washers (made of rubber and moon-shaped), a round gasket for the bottom;
  • two hoses must be screwed to the mixer, designed for hot and cold water. The choice of hoses should be approached very carefully, rubber hoses have low strength and often tear and leak. The best option there will be products made of metal-plastic material. Do not tighten too much, otherwise the gaskets will be damaged and the connection will leak;

Hot and cold water connection

  • studs are fixed in small holes at the bottom of the mixer;
  • install the gasket and insert the faucet into the hole in the sink. And from the bottom side, you need to put a moon-shaped washer on the studs, a rubber washer is placed on top of it;
  • washers are secured with nuts. The nuts are installed on the studs and tightened well so that the faucet stands steadily on the sink. Some mixers are fixed with a large nut on the underside for greater reliability;
  • after that, proceed to the installation of the siphon. First of all, we check all the details of the siphon, perhaps they have burrs. If they are, then they should be carefully cut. Otherwise, after installation, gaps will form at the joints, through which unpleasant odors will pass in the future;

Connecting a siphon to a drain

  • on the drain hole we put an overlay with holes, insert a long screw into the center;
  • a receiving type pipe with a rubber seal is placed under the drain hole;
  • the lining and the nozzle should be fastened with a screw. We tighten the screw as tightly as possible so that the pipe fits snugly enough against the sink;
  • the remaining part is assembled after assembling the cabinets, installing the sink. A coupling nut with a conical gasket should be put on the branch pipe. We twist the upper part, fix the lid from the siphon.

Installing a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom is not difficult on your own, if you listen to some recommendations:

  • First of all, we start assembling the cabinets. Usually they should be accompanied by instructions to facilitate the work, but they are unlikely to come in handy. This process is quite simple. The main thing is to make sure that the screws, fasteners are firmly fixed. After installing the cabinet under the sink, this will be difficult to implement;

Scheme of assembly cabinets under the washbasin

  • once the cabinet is assembled, we proceed to the arrangement of the sink. It is in its appearance, functions no different from those sold separately, just the washbasin is made to fit the bedside table and is used to complete it;
  • we connect the siphon to the drain;

The siphon is installed by screwing it to the washbasin drain

  • We put the sink with the faucet already installed on it on the cabinet. Usually, metal corners are used to fasten these elements;
  • we move the washbasin and cabinet closer to the place where these elements are planned to be installed;

A sink with a siphon and a mixer is placed on a cabinet and moved up to the wall

  • on the surface of the wall, points for bolts should already be marked, on which the washbasin should then be fixed. Marking is done independently. For greater accuracy, it is better to bring the washbasin to the wall, accurately measure the points. With the help of a tape measure, it will still not be possible to achieve the desired accuracy;

Marking on the wall for a future cabinet

  • we take the washbasin with the cabinet back and make drilling at the marked points;
  • after the holes are made, the bolts that come with the product should be inserted into them. When buying a product, be sure to check the availability of these elements, sometimes sellers simply forget to put them. And so that you do not have to buy them separately, see their availability;
  • now you need to install the sink and cabinet in place, screw everything with bolts;
  • check how the sink and cabinet stand. If everything is stable, does not stagger, the product stands tightly to the wall surface, then everything is done correctly;

Sink cabinet installation process

  • at the end we connect the sewer. Mixer hoses must be connected to pipes with cold and hot water. The hoses are connected with a union nut and a rubber base gasket;
  • then we seal the holes, connections. Sealing must be done necessarily, this will help to avoid unforeseen leaks;
  • at the end, the siphon is connected to the sewer pipe. In order to seal all kinds of holes, you need to use a special rubber gasket or corrugated cuff;

Installing the sink on the cabinet - the final stage of work

  • it is important that before you start using the washbasin, it is better to check it for leaks, if there are none, then you can safely proceed to its operation.

What to do if there are no mounting holes on the cabinet

Sometimes products may not have holes for wall mounting. Basically, this problem is often found in Turkish-made cabinets. Some consumers believe that it is rather difficult to fix this product to the wall in the bathroom and try not to purchase designs.

But what to do when the product has already been purchased? Many people think that you can refuse and return to the seller. Yes, of course, this can be done, but not always. The product may not be accepted, they will find many reasons for this. And if it is damaged and there are defects on it, then it will definitely not be accepted back. If, of course, you want to waste time, nerves, then you can try. As a result, maybe they will make a replacement for a cabinet with holes. And if it does not work out, then you can try to put the structure without holes.

It can be installed using a simple method:

  • ordinary silicone is used as a fastener instead of bolts;
  • due to the fact that the design rests on the cabinet, it will firmly adhere to the silicone mixture;
  • it is important that the wall surface is strong, and its coating is made of high-quality tiles;
  • in this case, it is not necessary to drill the surface of the walls, leaving them in strength and good condition. And the appearance of the design will remain in perfect condition.

Silicone sink attachment

Installing a cabinet with silicone is suitable for those who do not want to spoil their bathroom wall covering, especially if it has a low strength. In addition, this installation method is much faster than using bolts and drilling.

Installing a washbasin with a bathroom cabinet is a simple process that does not require great work and knowledge. You can do everything yourself, without resorting to the help of professionals. The main thing is to choose a suitable design and correctly calculate the place for its installation. With this approach, you can get a comfortable, stylish, functional room.

The sink is one of the indispensable attributes of any kitchen. It is required to the same extent as a stove (gas or electric). But installing a sink in the kitchen with your own hands is much easier than connecting a stove, if you know the basic instructions and the characteristic secrets of such work.

Different sinks are needed, different sinks are important

Indeed, kitchen sinks are produced in the widest range, from which in a specialized plumbing store "eyes run wide". Kitchen sinks can be divided into at least six categories:

  • Sinks hinged, cut-in and laid on. Mounted option is now rare, it is more relevant for communal apartments and government institutions than for modern renovation. But mortise and overhead sinks compete with each other in popularity, their long-term reliability and aesthetic appeal are comparable;
  • Sinks made of stainless steel alloys, chrome-plated or nickel-plated, sinks made of natural granite or porcelain stoneware artificial stone, acrylic and even glass (!). However, due to practicality, 90% of all models are made of stainless steel and representative porcelain stoneware.;
  • Sinks angular and standard, round, oval, square, rectangular and curly. The more intricate the shape of the sink, the more difficult it is to give it impeccable cleanliness and maintain a sparkling shine on a daily basis. After all, the sink is used not for beauty in the living room, but for mundane household needs in the kitchen;
  • By design, ordinary single sinks and sinks with two bowls (one or different sizes, the same or various shapes etc.). There are convenient models with an overflow of water from one bowl to another;
  • By the location of the mixer - on the wall or on the sink itself (the first option is rare);
  • Availability additional options– the possibility of installing a water filter, outlets for connecting a washing machine, automatic valves for regulating the drain, additional taps for connecting garden hoses, etc.

Sinks from of stainless steel have gained overwhelming popularity due to their reasonable price, durable functionality, compatibility with a wide variety of kitchen renovations and ease of sanitization.

You can check the quality of the steel alloy of the sink right in the store - an ordinary flat magnet will stick to it very firmly, with bad steel the magnet will “fly off” at the slightest hesitation.

Granite and steel sinks are available in overhead and mortise versions, do-it-yourself installation of a sink in the kitchen is possible for both. However, we must first take care of the furniture basis of our assembly efforts.

How to assemble a sink in the kitchen - we mount the cabinet

Mortise and overhead sinks are installed in bedside tables and cabinets, with opening (less often sliding) doors in front and an empty opening in the back. Assembly of these elements kitchen set has its characteristics. The fact is that they do not provide for internal bulkheads, they can interfere with the connection of sewers and water pipes. This means that there will be no additional stiffening ribs inside the cabinet. If an overhead sink is installed, even the countertop is missing, it is replaced by a steel sink panel.

The assembly of the cabinet under the sink should be much more reliable and durable than other parts of the kitchen set.. It must be installed on special linings, because. with the best tightness, water leaks are possible. The material itself will not interfere with the treatment with water-repellent compounds. Inside the nightstand, it is necessary to provide fasteners for tightening jumpers - they are installed after connecting the sink to communications for the strength of the entire structure. The jumpers themselves can be made from flat and thick planks, which will serve as additional mini-shelves inside the cabinet.

How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet - a quick guide

The overhead option for installing a kitchen sink is ordinary and “retractable”. In the latter case, the sink itself is equipped with a curved slide with side and front side, on the bedside table there are special grooves. After successfully assembling the sink in the kitchen, it remains to push the sink into these grooves, move the structure against the wall - and you can connect communications.

If you use the direct version of surface mounting, you will have to seal all joints. A quality waterproof sealant combines the properties of an adhesive and a protective waterproof compound. The upper perimeter of the open pedestal is generously smeared with this composition, it remains to accurately place the sink itself on top.

A large and heavy surface sink must not be installed only on sealing adhesive!

Otherwise, one day it will fall into the cabinet along with the dishes, destroying the sewer and breaking off the water hoses under pressure. Negative impressions from such an accident will be available to both you and the neighbors below. As well as the elimination of a plumbing collapse and the repair of two rooms already from the personal budget. How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet without the danger of such an opportunity? With the help of auxiliary bars or internal crates.

It is customary to supply simple overhead sinks with additional fasteners. As such, massive bars, precisely screwed with wrong side pedestals. It is necessary to accurately mark the lower edge of the pre-installed (without glue!) Shell and build an internal crate along this line. Then the sink will rely on auxiliary bars, and not on the thin end of the nightstand. The operation is similar to hidden lathing installation, only in the final stage it is supplemented with adhesive sealing of the junction of metal and wood.

Installing a sink in the kitchen - do-it-yourself mortise installation

Before attaching a metal sink to the pedestal using a mortise method, you need to make sure that the pedestal is strong and that it can precise installation the entire structure into the mounting opening. Experiment with the movement of the bedside table in advance - after fixing the sink, this will have to be done only once. After connecting the sewerage and water supply, the bedside table with the sink should stand “like a glove”, without distortions and vibrations.

How to install a sink in the kitchen with your own hands - a step by step diagram

Step 1: Markup

Most mortise sinks are sold with a ready-made template, it plays the role of a packaging container. It is enough to cut out such a template from cardboard and attach it to the countertop at the location of the sink - and the contour seat ready.

If there is no template, you will have to make it yourself. To do this, it is better to use thick cardboard (for example, from a TV or monitor). Having measured inner part sinks, transfer this size to a cardboard surface and cut off a few centimeters more. It is better to cut a piece of cardboard several times than to look for a new piece.

Step 2: Location

The proverb about the need to measure seven times before the first cut is very relevant for our work. You can move the finished template on the countertop easily and freely - until you start to cut it through. So consider how the tap will open, where the filter will be, how it will be located kitchenware and so on.

Outline the cardboard template should be as even and accurate as possible. To do this, it is attached to the countertop with ordinary tape and draw one thin line with a pencil. After that, the "cardboard assistant" is peeled off and sent to the waste paper, it will no longer be useful to us. We glue the perimeter of the future hole on the outside with 8-12 cm masking tape in order to prevent damage from mechanical tools.

Step 3: Drill and saw

Yes, yes, the first mechanical tool will be a drill, not a saw. A drill with a diameter of 2 mm is selected and several closely spaced holes are drilled in the place where it is convenient to start cutting out the contour. The holes are connected into a single groove with a chisel.

Sawing the tabletop is convenient jigsaw for wood. Just do not forget to stock up on extra canvases - thick tabletops are difficult to saw, the canvas is likely to break with a slight deviation from the vertical. Take your time and drive the jigsaw confidently - it is more difficult to correct a curved cutout than immediately cut a hole along a plumb line, with a strictly perpendicular cut.

Step 4: Finishing the installation

At the end of a fresh mounting hole apply sealant and firmly insert the sink. We hold the sink under load from 10 to 60 seconds (depending on the type of sealant). Carefully remove excess adhesive from the outer and inside sinks and wait several hours until the sealant is completely cured. We connect hoses, pipes, sewers, install a faucet and use the new sink for our pleasure.

One of the essential elements of the bathroom is the sink, as it is almost impossible to do without it. Besides the fact that this accessory provides convenient hygiene procedures, it should also harmoniously fit into the interior of the bathroom. It is not always possible to purchase a bath, toilet, bidet and sink at the same time, so they are often bought in different time and from different manufacturers. Despite this, all these devices should form a single ensemble. To choose the right bathroom sink, you need to know what they are, how they differ, and also understand the main advantages and disadvantages of each variety.

Types of shells

Unlike kitchen sinks bathroom sinks are presented in a much wider range. In order to choose the right accessory, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • type of instalation;
  • shape and size;
  • manufacturing material.

Types of bathroom sinks by installation method

According to the installation method, sinks are divided into the following types:

  1. With a pedestal In the people, this design is also called a tulip. Its main feature is the presence of a leg or pedestal. This solution allows you to hide the siphon and water pipes, and also provides a reliable support for the bowl. These structures have a predetermined height, usually 70-80 cm, and in the case when it is not enough, you will have to additionally make a stand or pedestal. It is not possible to reduce the height of the pedestal.

    The pedestal is a support for the sink and allows you to hide communications

  2. Overhead. Such models are installed on the countertop and protrude above it at a distance not exceeding 10 cm. After installing the overhead sink, it seems that it is a separate object. Such designs do not have holes for installing a mixer, so the faucet is mounted on a countertop. For ease of use, the height of the countertop should be no more than 85 cm.

    Countertop sink mounted on countertop

  3. Mortise. Such a sink crashes into the countertop, this can be done both from below and from above. When inserting from below, plumbing is flush with the countertop, which greatly simplifies the removal of water that has fallen on it. When installing the sink on top of the countertop, it protrudes a few centimeters above it. The faucet can be installed both in the hole on the sink and on the countertop.

    The built-in washbasin can be mounted both above and below the countertop

  4. With wall mount. This design is also called console. There is no need to install a cabinet or countertop, as the sink is fixed directly on the wall using special fasteners. There are models of sinks with wide wings that allow you to imitate a countertop. The faucet can be installed both on the sink itself and on the wall. The main disadvantage of such models is that the connection to the plumbing and sewer system remains in sight. The advantage is to free up free space, and this important point for small spaces. Shape and size

One of the main parameters that you need to pay attention to when choosing a bathroom sink is its size. Only a properly sized washbasin will ensure its comfortable use and will not take up a lot of free space.

For small spaces, sinks are usually chosen 50-65 cm long and 40 cm wide. If you have a large room, then you can install models up to 75 cm long or a double sink, in which case two people can wash at the same time.

Having decided on the size of the sink, you can proceed to the choice of its shape. Sinks are:

  • round;
  • oval;
  • rectangular or square;
  • complex shape.

Production material

In the manufacture of bathroom sinks, a variety of materials are used:

  • ceramics are the most common products. Porcelain is more expensive and of higher quality, sanitary faience is simpler and cheaper;

    The most common option is faience sink

  • natural or artificial marble. Although natural marble and more expensive material, but the presence of pores in it requires more careful maintenance. Sinks made of artificial marble outwardly practically do not differ from those made of natural stone but are cheaper. In addition, they have a smoother surface, which greatly facilitates maintenance;

    Artificial marble looks practically no different from natural

  • Corian is a composite material that contains acrylic resins and mineral filler, and with the help of a pigment, you can apply a coating of any color. Since this material is easy to process, shells of any shape can be made from it. Such models have smooth surface, so they are easy to care for;

    From Corian, you can make a shell of any shape.

  • glass. Glass sinks, although they are expensive, look very beautiful. For their manufacture, special glass is used, so their strength is high. The disadvantage of such models is that traces of water are visible on them, so they need to be looked after more carefully;

  • Stainless steel. Such sinks have long term service, high strength and hygiene. The disadvantage is that when hit by a jet of water, a lot of noise is created. look after metal models Be careful not to scratch their surface.

Preparing for installation

Despite the large selection of bathroom sinks, their installation is almost the same. In addition to firmly fixing the bowl, you will also have to connect the water and drain, install the mixer. Only high-quality performance of all stages of installation will allow you to properly install the sink and avoid leaks.

Materials and tools

In order to independently install the sink in the bathroom, you will need the following materials and tools:

How to shut off the water supply

Before carrying out any plumbing work in the bathroom, it is necessary to turn off the water supply. Please note that not only cold, but also hot water is supplied to the washbasin, so both taps must be turned off. They do this at the entrance to the apartment, and if there are additional taps, then you can stop the water supply only to the bathroom.

You need to make sure that the water pipes and drain can be connected to the selected sink model. If this is not possible, then existing pipes must be lengthened or new ones installed.

Dismantling the old sink

If an old sink is being replaced, it must first be dismantled. The work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Removing the mixer First, the pipes of cold and hot water, after which the fastening nut is pumped out and the mixer is removed.

    To remove the mixer, it is necessary to unscrew the nut of its fastening.

  2. Removing the siphon From below, on the sink, unscrew the siphon fastening nut, disconnect it from the drain drain and drain the water.

  3. Removing the sink. Remove the sink from the support - it can be a countertop, cabinet or brackets.

So that at run time installation work the smell of their sewage did not spread throughout the apartment; it was necessary to close the hole in the drain pipe with a rag.

Installation steps

Although when installing sinks different designs there are some features, the main stages of work are carried out in the same way.

Installation work

Before proceeding with the installation of the sink, you first need to decide on the place of its installation. At this stage, the following work is performed:

  1. Determination of height. There are no strict standards for the installation height of the sink in the bathroom. Most experts recommend mounting the sink at a level of 80–85 cm from the floor. It all depends on the height of the tenants of the apartment. Choose this option in such a way that the sink is convenient for everyone to use.

    The installation height of the sink should be such that it is convenient for all residents to use it.

  2. Installation markup:
  3. Installation of brackets. Brackets must be installed to attach the sink to the wall. They come with the washbasin and match its dimensions. In the marked places, holes are made with a puncher, plastic dowels are inserted, after which the brackets are fixed to the wall. Mounting the sink on the wall is possible only if its surface has sufficient strength. When installing a sink with a pedestal, for its reliable fixation, it is also necessary to fasten the bowl to the wall. If the installation is carried out on studs, it is necessary to use plastic inserts.

    You can only mount a wall-hung sink on a solid wall

Faucet installation

The faucet can be installed on the sink, on the wall or on the countertop. If it is placed on the bowl, then it is possible to perform installation after its installation, but experts recommend doing this before attaching the sink, so all work will be easier to do.

The mixer is installed in the following order:

Washbasin fixing

After installing the mixer, the sink must be fixed. Carrying out this stage will differ depending on the selected model:

  1. Mounting the sink to the wall. The bowl is put on the installed studs, plastic inserts are inserted and the nuts are tightened. If the installation is carried out on brackets, then the bowl simply fits on them.

  2. Installation of a sink with a pedestal. This design can be of two types:
  3. Installation of a sink with a curbstone. A cabinet is placed, its horizontalness is checked, after which the sink is laid on it. The washbasin can be pulled to the wall with studs, but this difficult option. Usually it is glued with a sealant, since the main support falls on the cabinet, and the sealant only prevents water from getting between the wall and the sink.

    The sink on the cabinet is usually attached to the wall with a sealant

At this stage, the mixer is connected to the hot and cold water supply system. To ensure tightness between the tap and the nut on the hose, a rubber gasket must be installed. If the connection is using flexible eyeliner, then the gasket is already installed in it, you do not need to install or wind anything additional. Then the water is turned on and the tightness of the connection is checked. If there is a leak, then tighten the nut a little.

If leaks occur, just tighten the nut a little

Connection to the sewerage system

Now the sink needs to be connected to the sewerage system. To do this, first install a siphon. This device can be S-shaped or bottle-shaped. Some sinks have an overflow hole. In this case, it is necessary to install a siphon, in which there is a hole for installing an additional pipe.

Siphon installation sequence:

  1. A siphon outlet is inserted into the sink hole, after which it is fixed. To do this, you need to install a mesh, a gasket and fix the siphon with a screw.

    If diameter sewer pipe over size pipes from a siphon, use a transitional sealing cuff

  2. Checking connections. After the installation of the siphon, a control drain of water is carried out. It is checked for leaks, if they appear, then they must be eliminated. If the leak occurs from under the sealing collar, then it must be pulled out, lubricated with sealant and a new connection made.

Before you start using the washbasin, you need to check the quality of the connections and how firmly the bowl is installed. To do this, once again check the quality of all fasteners. After that, open the tap with hot and cold water and check the tightness of the water hoses. If there are water leaks, then the connections must be tightened, and when this does not help, unscrew the hose and wind up the FUM tape.

To check the tightness of the siphon, it is recommended to draw water into the sink by closing the drain hole. Then drain all the water - if there are no leaks in the siphon and hoses, then you can start using the sink.

While draining the water, check the tightness of the connections

The connections should not be overtightened, as you may damage the seals or strip the threads.

Possible errors and methods for their elimination

Although installing a sink is not a difficult task, certain mistakes can be made when doing it yourself. Incorrect installation leads not only to leakage, but a loosely fixed sink can fall and cause injury to household members.
