Doorway to the kitchen without a door to the corridor. Doorway without a door: finishing methods, sizes and shapes, design options Doorway to the ceiling without a door

The front door forms the first impression of the home, so it must be both reliable and aesthetically attractive, and well-mounted. At the same time, the complete editing cycle includes stages that are often neglected due to ignorance. These include slope trim front door, which is necessary not only for the beauty of the design, but also for high-quality operation for a long time.

What it is?

As practice shows, slopes are often confused with platbands, since platbands are their external, decorative part. By themselves, they have only an aesthetic function. But the slopes are involved in ensuring tightness, sound insulation and thermal insulation, increase the resistance of the front door to breaking.

By definition, slopes are the inner and outer portions of a wall that “surround” a door frame. Slopes are also considered to be the left, right and upper sides of the doorway in which the door is supposed, but not installed. Not all types of doorways have slopes on both sides. Sometimes they may be absent on the outside, but on the inside they are in most cases.

Device door slope quite complicated. High-quality slopes are not just parts of the wall protruding beyond the frame, they are the optimal combination of materials, each of which is necessary to perform a separate function. Materials are superimposed on the principle of "layer cake".

The first layer is rough. To create it are used:

  • Primer. It is applied to the cleaned wall surface as a pre-finish coating. Priming compositions are necessary to level the absorbent properties of the surface, as well as to improve the “adhesion” of the following materials to it.

  • Styrofoam. This layer is optional, but desirable in cases where the wall needs to be insulated. This is true for apartments on the lower floors and private houses.

  • Plaster. The primer improves the adhesion of materials to the wall, but does not level the surface. Plastering is necessary to fill in irregularities, recesses or cracks in the wall. This process is the most time-consuming and long and requires certain skills and abilities.

Alternatively, you can use an easier-to-use material - drywall. This option allows you to quickly prepare the surface for further types of finishes, but it is not suitable in all cases. In the conditions of the Russian climate, it is more often used for interior decoration or in warm regions with high humidity.

  • Reinforcing corners. These thin but strong metal corners are essential for protecting plaster at the corners of slopes. The front door is a place with a lot of traffic, and the corners of the opening are often hit, hit, scratched. Without proper protection, plastered corners will quickly begin to crumble and lose their presentable appearance.

  • Putty. With its help, all the shortcomings are leveled after the installation of the corners. Putty compositions lie in an uneven layer, therefore, after they dry, the surfaces of the slopes must be cleaned. For this purpose, fine-grained sheets of sandpaper or small power grinders are used. Furniture is also suitable if it reaches hard-to-reach places.

The second layer is the finishing, or front. There are no strict rules in choosing finishes. It depends only on individual preferences and financial capabilities. The only condition that must be met is to choose a finish that is in harmony with the door leaf and wall decoration.

What to decorate inside the apartment?

The slopes protrude both from the outside and from inside doors. Accordingly, there are two types of finishes - external and internal. External, as a rule, is less variable. The main focus is on design door leaf, and the slopes echo either with it or with the decoration of the walls. More often these are practical and concise options that do not attract attention.

Inside an apartment or house, the slope decoration becomes part of the interior. She is assigned a decorative role, so the types of materials and methods of decoration are of great importance.

Finishing facing materials from the inside there are the following types:

  • Surface plastering.
  • Bonding finishing materials.
  • Frame sheathing.
  • Coloring.

For the first type, plaster, primer, water and all the necessary tools are used. This process takes a lot of time, but it makes it possible to putty all the irregularities, insulate the structure, and make a layer of the desired thickness. Decor from other materials is often superimposed on top of the plaster, but in itself it is already considered a finished finish, therefore it belongs to the basic repair techniques.

“Clean” slopes after plastering are easy to paint in any suitable color, while they are polished to smoothness or, on the contrary, left embossed.

For decoration, you can use the following materials:

  • Ceramic tile (tile). Differs in rigidity, moisture resistance, hygiene, low price and a wide range of colors, shapes and textures. It is easy to care for the ceramic surface, however, the tile can crack or chip off due to mechanical damage, and during the replacement process you will have to work hard so as not to damage neighboring elements.

The undeniable advantage of tiles is the many possibilities for design. The mosaic looks especially original. It can be made from solid tiles small size or small pieces. Mosaic pieces get by artificial means from a tile, cutting it into pieces of the desired size, and jacks of all trades can use for this purpose broken tiles which is considered unsuitable. The result is original and unique, and the cost of materials is minimal.

Any construction adhesive is suitable for gluing tiles. It is applied evenly with a plastic spatula, and the seams are rubbed in a day with a rubber spatula.

  • Porcelain tile. This material is often confused with ceramic tiles. Indeed, in the manufacture of porcelain stoneware, the same composition of the substance is used as for tiles, but the production technology is very different. As a result, the tile has a color coating only on top and becomes ugly when chipped, while porcelain stoneware has a uniform color throughout the entire thickness of the slab and damage is less noticeable on it. Also, its structure is denser, so it is more resistant to damage. In addition to being moisture resistant, environmentally friendly and durable, it also has frost resistance. In appearance, this material is more noble, but the color spectrum is very limited and its cost is higher than for ceramic tiles.

  • Decorative rock. It is truly an interior decoration, although it is far from always appropriate and is expensive. A feature of this material is that it can be used to simulate a real masonry. He has an attractive appearance, gives zest to the interior, impeccable in terms of performance. The stone is not prickly, easy to clean, refers to durable and safe materials. To fix it on the surface of the slopes, construction glue is used, but there are also ways to “sheath” the surface with decorative stone.

  • Wallpaper. Wallpapering is perhaps the easiest and most budgetary way to decorate. It is most convenient to stick wallpaper on slopes with plasterboard trim. The glue will also “grab” on the plaster, but for this the surface will have to be leveled especially carefully so that “bubbles” do not form on the wallpaper.

Given the high traffic at the entrance to the room, it is better to choose a washable wallpaper and in dark colors.

Sheathe openings with the following materials:

  • MDF. Finely dispersed fraction panels are very popular in all types of finishes. They are universal for any interior, look aesthetically pleasing and have a number of advantages: durability, a variety of coatings that imitate different breeds wood, ease of installation, improved sound insulation and thermal insulation in the room.

  • Chipboard. Finishing chipboard is the easiest way to tidy up part of the doorway if, after installing the door, it looks deplorable. In this case, even a primer and putty are not needed. It is enough to sheathe the surface with even sheets, matching in tone and pattern to the door leaf.

  • Laminate. Laminate sheathing is widespread for two reasons: it is inexpensive and looks an order of magnitude more solid than non-laminated recycled wood materials. The basis of the coating is fiberboard or chipboard (therefore, “sew up the slopes of chipboard” means the same as laminate), and on top it is decorated with a polymer film. The most common option is the stylization of precious wood, but there are other shades in a dark and light palette. It has a number of advantages inherent in all wood-based materials, as well as certain disadvantages. So, among the most common disadvantages are hydrophobia (the material can exfoliate and swell from water) and average wear resistance.

  • Dobory. Sheathing of internal slopes from dobor is rather a necessity than an element of decor. Dobors are narrow plates made of different materials, which are necessary to mask slopes, the width of which is more than 7 cm. As a rule, they are used when the door and slopes must be sheathed in the same style and with the same materials.

  • Drywall. The choice of drywall is relevant when you need a high-quality and budget result, which is convenient to work with with your own hands. In addition, drywall perfectly levels the surface for decorative finishes in the future and enhances the insulating properties of the front door.

  • Plastic. No matter how versatile MDF, laminate and similar materials are, plastic door requires the design of the adjacent space with PVC-based materials. The use of sandwich panels is especially popular. They have a variable width - from 5 to 150 cm, which allows you to cover each side of the slope with just one piece.

The performance characteristics of the product are also on top: an aesthetic appearance that persists for a long time, biostability, resistance to humidity and temperature extremes, the presence of air sections inside the panels, which ensure the preservation of heat in the house, and hygiene.

Modern plastic manufacturing technologies guarantee its environmental safety and non-toxicity.

  • Siding. The characteristics of siding panels are very diverse, because they are made from various materials - from aluminum to plastic. Slopes are finished with aluminum, copper, wood, plinth and vinyl siding.

The best option- vinyl. It is a monolithic PVC panel, the main feature of which is flexibility. It can be given absolutely any shape, ideally adjusted to angles without joints and gaps. Vinyl is not subject to rotting and burning processes, is not afraid of water, does not crack at temperature extremes, is easily cleaned of contaminants, and is not of interest to fungi and insects. The front side of the panels can be plain, with a pattern, stylized as stone, wood or brick.

Frame sheathing involves the preliminary installation of a metal (aluminum) or wooden profile around the perimeter of the doorway, to which any material is subsequently attached using self-tapping screws. This method is considered the most time-consuming, since before attaching the profile, it is necessary to prime and level the slopes with cement mortar.

Some types of materials (plaster, chipboard, MDF and drywall without a decorative coating) need to be painted to harmoniously blend with the interior of the room.

For these purposes are used:

  • Acrylic paints. They are convenient to add to the composition for plastering the surface. This simultaneously reduces the number of finishing steps, since surface leveling and painting take place simultaneously, and makes damage less noticeable, since the entire layer of plaster is painted over;
  • Water emulsion. Such paints can be added to the plaster or painted on the wall over the leveling layer. When using acrylic and water-based paints, it is important to remember that they must be primed on top, otherwise the surface will get dirty. You can dilute the primer yourself from PVA and water in a ratio of 1: 5;
  • Latex based paints can also be used in two ways, but their advantage is that the final primer is not needed. Latex compounds are not hydrophobic and easy to clean;
  • Alkyd and oil. These compounds are indispensable in conditions high humidity. They are more wear-resistant and dense, but they are more difficult to work with due to the thick consistency and toxic smell.

How to insulate?

Thermal insulation and sound insulation are functions of the front door, which partially depend on the type of slope finish. To warm the room, it is not necessary to run to the store for a heater. First you need to take care of maximum tightness, and you should start with the front door. This will not only increase the level of comfort in the house, but also help save money on utility bills in the future.

Insulation of slopes from the inside is carried out step by step:

  • Choice of materials. The leading positions are occupied by sandwich panels, drywall, polystyrene foam, mineral wool, polystyrene. Experts recommend choosing polystyrene, which is superior to other materials in many ways. At a relatively low cost, it is capable of thermoforming and vacuum forming, is resistant to moisture and chemical processing, does not smell, is environmentally friendly, and can be processed in various ways. If polystyrene is not available, it can be replaced with a mineral slab (wool).

  • Preparatory work. They include all cleansing measures working surface. Need to cut mounting foam, remove the old coating, if any, to eliminate irregularities as much as possible. After removing the old plaster, the surface must be dusted with a vacuum cleaner and a damp sponge.

  • Primer and putty. It is imperative to prime the surface of the slopes. This will ensure a good adhesion of subsequent layers to the wall, as well as minimize the likelihood of fungi and bacteria on the wall. Suitable for this purpose any soil of deep action. After applying it, the surface must be allowed to dry for 3-4 hours. Reapplying primer to plaster is acceptable.

It is not necessary to putty the slopes, but it is desirable, especially if the surface has many defects, chips and depressions. All these minor gaps greatly affect the insulating qualities of the front door.

  • Heater installation. At this stage, it is the turn of the insulating material. Polystyrene boards and mineral wool glued with specialized adhesives. The glue is applied with a spatula to the slab, then it is applied to the surface of the slope and adjusted to the level. The drying time of the glue is at least a day. After that, the plates are fixed with dowels.

  • Fixing the heater. Ideally, polystyrene or mineral boards should be covered with a plastic mesh for indoor finishing works. This will protect against cracks and bumps in the future. The glue is applied to the mesh in layers, each layer dries to hardness in 6-12 hours.

  • Surface leveling. Here again, putty is needed. You can level the surface up to 2-3 layers. Then you need to let it dry for the time indicated in the instructions on the container, and process it with fine-grained sandpaper. The grain number on the sandpaper package is at least 100.

  • Final finishing. It includes the application of a colorless primer, followed by painting or any other decoration method.

It is important to consider that finishing materials have not only their own characteristics that affect thermal insulation, but also their own weight. It is necessary to calculate in advance whether the insulated slope will withstand, for example, the weight of porcelain stoneware or wall paneling, or whether paint, plastic, wallpaper should be preferred.

Colors

Slopes are a small detail that can both support the style in the interior and completely break out of it. The inappropriate color of the finish will become an element that violates the integrity of the overall picture, so it is important to choose the right color in accordance with the design of the door and the decoration of the walls, floor and ceiling in the room.

Proper design of the doorway can emphasize the interior and bring zest to it. Therefore, when creating such structures, designers often resort to the most unexpected tricks. In order for the selected finish to harmoniously fit into the design of the room, it is important to clearly understand how best to highlight this part.

Regardless of the type of structure, doors are required to enter it, as well as to communicate between its premises, which are usually installed in doorways. At the same time, to create a presentable appearance input structure and processing slopes, it is necessary to use extensions and platbands. are panels that are designed to gain the missing width of the box and mask the slopes in the opening. Such products are attached to the box and fill the space that forms between the door frame and the other side of the wall. To complete the complex wall decoration, platbands are used. The immediate task of such elements is to frame and create a holistic design.

Advantages of interior openings without and with doors

In the table, we consider the features of each of the options.

Options for finishing the doorway without extensions, platbands and doors

Often the opening is trimmed without installing a door leaf. Such a design move allows you to simultaneously erase the boundaries between rooms and at the same time visually make the room more spacious. To create a reliable and spectacular design interior design without doors is not necessarily guided by standard options.

To design an interior doorway, you can use any material used for finishing walls and slopes.

In this case, decoration can be performed using the following materials:

Arched structures are often used to improve the internal perception of the interior. However, if the room has standard ceilings, then arches with small roundings will look better here. It is better to decorate an interior passage without extensions and platbands in houses with high ceilings with classic arches in a non-standard design: trapezoidal, elliptical and asymmetric. You can decorate the slopes with brick, wood, stucco, plaster relief overlays, sandrik or artificial stone.

Framing slopes with drywall

The option of decorating slopes with drywall is simple and budgetary. Such material is easy to process and does not require large volumes. preparatory work. has good adhesion, has a long service life and looks great on the wall.

Design with drywall is concise

Decoration with clinker tiles

Due to the variety of colors and ease of use, clinker tiles are often used for wall decoration. Tile is convenient for tiling corners doorways without platbands and extras. This option is suitable for the design of rectangular, arched and semi-arched structures.

Tiles give the room a special style

Stone doorway decoration

In the interior space, decorative stone allows you to hide all the imperfections of the wall, as well as transform the interior. The material is highly resistant to external influences, durable and has excellent aesthetic properties.

Through the use of stone, the entrance structure becomes more interesting.

Plastic panels

With the help of plastic, you can imitate the appearance and texture of natural stone, wood and expensive materials. Framing the wall with plastic can visually increase the size of the interior passage and ceilings. Facing in this way can be done independently.

Plastic can imitate expensive materials

siding finish

Due to the textured surface, facing the doorway with siding looks advantageous in any interior. Such material is distinguished by a variety of models and colors, ease of maintenance and installation.

The textured surface of the siding fits perfectly into any interior.

Use of textiles

For decor interior structures expensive and dense textiles can be used. This technique helps to hide the opening, divert attention and lighten the space a little. At the same time, the textile fabric can be of any kind, the main thing is that it ultimately harmonizes with the overall style of the room.

Finishing a doorway with a door

For some rooms, a clear delimitation of space is very important. Therefore, it is customary to leave doors in them. When choosing the design option for such a passage without extensions and platbands, the structures should be selected in accordance with the color and texture of the door leaf. For this, the following can be used:

  • blinds;
  • ceramic tile;
  • tree;
  • laminate;

shutter doors

There is a double practicality in this idea. Firstly, shutter doors are very original, and often cheaper than standard doors. Secondly, you can decorate the doorway with slats from the blinds, which gives the whole structure uniform style.

Blinds in the opening add lightness and airiness

Finishing with ceramic tiles

The tile has a number of advantages, such as ease of maintenance, a large selection of colors and patterns, and durability.

The most important - beautifully cut and join the edges for which you need a special tool.

Tiles are the most practical option

Wood is a timeless classic

If you want your opening to look classic, and at the same time you are for naturalness, then wood is your choice.

natural wood adds warmth, suits many styles in design

Laminate looks expensive

If you want something custom, durable and practical, laminate flooring is a great choice. It's just as easy to install as regular architraves, but it looks much more expensive.

Exist various options doorway trim. They help to achieve harmony and stylish design premises. It must be borne in mind that these structures are divided into two types, which depend on the presence or absence of a door leaf. It is this element that determines the sequence of activities carried out in order to obtain the desired effect.

Ways of facing openings without door panels

Finishing a doorway without a door is carried out in two main options:

  1. Standard. This technology provides for lining openings with various materials, without changing the design.
  2. Arched. This method lies in the fact that the configuration of the opening changes - significantly or slightly.

Each of the methods requires compliance with certain rules, as well as accuracy.

Various types of materials for standard finishes

To decorate a doorway without a door, finishing products are used that have different technological features.

PVC panels

This option is one of the most popular. This is facilitated by the fact that such products have excellent characteristics, and are also very affordable. For laying, the method of landing on glue is often used. Panels are mainly faced with slopes. Other parts of the doorway are finished with other materials.

On a note! PVC products require careful selection. To make a coating that will look harmonious in the interior, preference should be given to varieties made as an imitation of natural materials.

Everything is done like this:

Requires to leave the structure for a while to avoid displacement of elements. Now proceed to the elimination of external joints. If they close plastic corners, as is done when facing windows, it may not be a very attractive effect. Therefore, it is better to perform putty with putty. Then you can start the subsequent finishing. For this, painting, wallpapering is carried out.

Should know! Exist plastic architraves, which are well combined with PVC panels. But pruning them is a very laborious task. The fact is that it is necessary to adjust the elements at an angle of 90 degrees.

The best replacement for PVC will be MDF panels. Finishing openings with such material goes well with other products. If it is required to perform cladding of structures in this way, in order to exclude the formation of visible joints, lamination is used.

Facing the door slope with MDF

stucco work

It is immediately worth noting that stucco molding is currently used, which is made of polyurethane. Unlike gypsum options, this type of product is characterized by low weight. Its installation can be performed without the involvement of additional assistants. An important feature such a material is that it lends itself to post-processing. That is, it is easy to paint in different colors.

Finishing the opening is carried out according to a certain scheme:

  • All parts and glue are preliminarily kept in the room where the installation will be carried out for 24 hours. This will ensure that all elements get used to the existing microclimate.
  • The areas to be pasted over are carefully covered with a primer. Only compositions that have a deep penetrating effect are selected.

Important! It should be remembered that the stucco sticker is done first. Only after that, it is possible to produce a general wall decoration.

  • The surfaces of the products are slightly rubbed with sandpaper. Next, glue is applied. It is evenly distributed on the wrong side of the fragments. Now the stucco is applied to the selected area and pressed well. To prevent the elements from slipping, small self-tapping screws are screwed under them.
  • If excess glue appears, then they are immediately removed. When this cannot be done immediately, then you can use acetone, which is moistened with a sponge.
  • An important point is the docking of elements. It can be carried out at a right angle (perpendicular installation), or trimming is performed, which is done at an angle of 45 degrees.
  • After cladding, joints appear. They are hidden with putty, which, after drying, is rubbed with sandpaper. Particular care should be taken when finishing between rooms, because it is required to provide for the location of parts on both sides.

Ennobling the doorway with stucco provides some nuances. This option is best suited for rooms that have fairly high ceilings. If you use it for small rooms, then it is advisable to carefully consider the location of all elements. The fact is that it is easy enough to overload the room so that the interior becomes simply spoiled.

Fake diamond

The use of artificial stone is a great solution that helps to decorate a doorway without a door in a very stylish and modern way. This option is superior to similar products due to the fact that the material is produced in a large decorative range. For example, clinker tiles are also used for cladding such structures, but their choice is rather limited.

On a note! It should be borne in mind that the concept of "artificial" does not belittle the merits of this product. The simulation is carried out with excellent accuracy. The texture and shades of natural stones are repeated.

Finishing the doorway with artificial stone

Before decorating a doorway without a door with a decorative stone, you should familiarize yourself with its advantages. There are the following advantages of the material:

  • Excellent appearance, which brings presentability to the interior.
  • Possibility of combination with other finishing materials.
  • Excellent mechanical resistance.
  • Durability. Service life is calculated in decades.

For work, small-sized products are used, which have some relief. If you choose a deeper texture, it will look very cumbersome.

The cladding is done according to various technologies. Often laying is carried out in a way that allows you to form uneven edges.

On a note! Currently, special elements have been developed that act as corner plates. They help you avoid overcutting.

Making the opening is quite simple:

  1. Marking is carried out on the selected areas. It should repeat the developed scheme. To carry out this process most accurately, the stone is laid out on the floor in a given order.
  2. Wall surfaces are treated with primers that have deep penetration. This will improve adhesion. It is important to allow all areas to dry thoroughly.
  3. Fixation can be carried out on a special adhesive for tiles or "liquid nails". The second option is suitable for those cases where the base has almost perfect evenness.
  4. The composition is applied to wrong side elements. It is important to remove any excess.
  5. The stone is laid in ways that make it possible to form a seam or get by with a monolithic surface (without joints).
  6. Details are seated in place and pressed. It is important to achieve a good grip.
  7. If joints have been formed, then they are overwritten. The color of the mixture is selected contrasting or plain.

If the question arises: what is the best way to finish a doorway that does not have doors, the first thing to consider are options that include artificial stone, decorative brick and clinker.

Plaster

Recently, this material has noticeably fallen in popularity. But just recently, about ten years ago, this method seemed the most accessible. It's safe to say that many simply underestimate plaster. Indeed, this option has several significant drawbacks - the complexity of application (in the absence of experience) and the presence of a certain amount of "dirt". But if you do all the work correctly, as well as achieve a combination with other products, then the effect will pleasantly surprise you.

How to decorate a doorway without a door by plastering:

  1. The required amount of the mixture is prepared. The solution made should be in such quantity that it is enough for 30-45 minutes of work.
  2. The mixture is applied to the surface by spraying. Leveling occurs using a rule or a wide spatula.
  3. If required, beacons and perforated profile guides are installed.
  4. When the solution layer exceeds 1-1.5 cm, then a reinforcing mesh is laid.

Such a surface can be painted. But it is better if the plaster acts as a starting composition. Then finishing decorative (textured) putty can act. It is applied in a certain order, which allows you to get amazing coverage. Such doorways will become an interior decoration.

Arch device

The arch can transform the interior. It is important to understand that a device of this design requires a certain amount of experience. Indeed, in order to finish the doorway exclusively with your own hands, you will need to expend a lot of effort.

Should know! There are standard-sized arches that are already completely ready for installation. They just need to be carefully installed.

Arched doorway

The most simple are the arches made of drywall. It looks like this:

  1. Finishing doorways begins with the installation of the frame on both sides. It is fixed on the upper horizontal and uprights. On the latter, it has a size that is almost equal to the end of the rounding.
  2. GKL parts are fixed to the frame. An arc is pre-cut on them, for this a stencil is made.
  3. Inside the resulting structure, an additional crate is performed. It serves to fasten the last arc-shaped drywall element.
  4. The final finish is done with putty. Decorative cladding produced in various materials.

The arch can be done with more "noble" products, but will require more skill.

Other ways of registration

The design of doorways can be performed by other methods. They consist in the use of decorative curtains or screens. This method is very affordable and simple. In addition, it requires almost no work to be done.

Various options can be used:

  1. Fabric curtains. They will be a great addition to any interior. The composition should be made in such a way that there is harmony with other elements and a combination with window decoration.
  2. Bamboo curtains. This option is suitable when the room is made in eco style.
  3. Thread curtains. These products are used if they want to fill the room with unusualness.

Of course, how to decorate the opening, everyone is chosen based on their taste and preferences.

What can be done with an opening equipped with a door

Deciding how to make a doorway that has a door leaf involves using the simplest options. The only difference is where this structure is located.

A simple arrangement of interior space

Most affordable option finishing of interior openings is considered to be the installation of the box and adjacent elements. The general technology is:

  • The box is installed. It can be equipped with a threshold or be without it.
  • As materials that will veneer the slopes, dobors are used. They are issued standard size(up to 120-150 mm).
  • These elements are attached due to the groove that is on the box. If such design feature not provided, then the fixation is carried out on self-tapping screws. A hole for them is drilled through the end of the part.
  • External decoration is made at the expense of platbands that frame the opening.

This option is great for situations where it is required to complete the cladding of not very wide structures.

Other options

How to ennoble a doorway that has a door in a more original way? In fact, to truly create interesting option, it is necessary to try. The fact is that it is the hinged canvas that limits the use of different materials. Improper use of finishing products - prevents opening. Although, given this feature, for exterior finish fits almost everything.

On a note! There is a sliding way to open the door. That is, the canvases repeat the arrangement of compartment doors. This is a rather interesting technological solution that requires a more careful choice of facing products.

How to finish a doorway? Such a question has many answers, which depend on the specific situation. But no matter what anyone advises, you still need to listen to your heart and choose the option that will be closest to you.

Making an opening without a door implies several features. Not all materials are suitable for this type of finish, and the selected options will have to be handled quite carefully. Some designs can be created with your own hands, and the construction of the rest is best left to a professional.

Peculiarities

The logical conclusion would be that a doorway without a door is made completely without a door frame. All decoration includes only the lining of the opening itself, which is performed using a variety of materials.

The design of a doorless opening allows you to choose from a variety of forms, including both classic and fantasy interesting options.

Far from every room, an opening without a door will look appropriate. There are some rooms that must have a door, and these include not only a toilet and a bathroom. Bedroom, kitchen, study must be equipped with a full door because in these rooms more than others there is a need for privacy and intimacy.

However, every rule can be circumvented. For additional decoration of such openings, curtains, muslin, screens are used. They allow you to create the illusion of dividing the room, while not completely replacing the door.

Upgrading an open doorway implies relying on the integrity of the entire home. As a rule, identical doorless openings are made in an apartment or house. This applies to both form and finish. They act as a connecting element, uniting all rooms into a single ensemble.

Speaking about the advantages that open openings have compared to classic doorways, one cannot fail to mention space saving. Each door occupies at least square meter usable area. When creating a doorless design, this problem disappears. From an aesthetic point of view, the opening allows you to visually expand the space or expand the functional area of \u200b\u200bthe room by combining it with a utility room. A good example is the recent combination of a balcony and a living room.

In some cases, a doorless space looks much more attractive than a door, especially when it is beautifully designed. For example, shelves are often placed along the contour of such an opening. Statuettes or other little things placed on them beautifully frame the gap, creating a unique atmosphere that cannot be repeated. Thus, sometimes an open opening looks even more intimate than a thick oak door.

Finally, one more important advantage is creating adequate ventilation in the apartment. Air circulates better through open space, and for small apartments, for example, as in Khrushchev-built houses, this factor is important - it allows you to fight stuffiness.

Creating several openings can completely change the original layout of the apartment, but in reality it comes out much cheaper than a full redevelopment.

In addition, an opening is often allowed to be created even in a load-bearing wall, so there are much more options for a new apartment plan.

Kinds

There are many different configurations of doorways without a door, which differ from each other not only in their shape, but also in the material with which they are created. Along with traditional raw materials, are used and latest developments in the field of design.

The simplest design is ordinary rectangular span. Creating a rectangular opening is very simple: the door frame is completely dismantled, then the surface of the walls is leveled along the contour. In the future, the resulting gap is simply painted or lined suitable material. There are a great many ways to finish, from the simple installation of wooden doborniks to the creation of pompous stucco columns.

More popular building arched structures. To do this, it is not necessary to expand the existing opening in the wall, in last years the idea of creating false arches is actively used. In this case, corner elements made of polyurethane or drywall with rounded sides are installed in a rectangular span, and the result is a full-fledged arch at a much lower cost and labor. However, this method is not suitable for all dwellings: it is necessary that the opening has sufficient height.

There are several types of arches:

  • Round arch. It is a classic interpretation and can be used in absolutely any room, regardless of the parameters, but there is one unspoken rule. The lower the ceiling, the wider the arched span should be.
  • Trapezoidal span. It is created from straight lines and can only be called an arch conditionally. Designers do not advise using such a form because of the stable association with a funeral accessory - a coffin.
  • Triangular arch. There are a huge number of subspecies of triangular arches: keeled, lancet horseshoe, Tudor. Similar elements came to modern design from the Middle Ages, and they are used preferably in high spacious rooms.

More and more often people refuse to create ordinary classic openings in favor of fantasy asymmetric ones.

They can only be made in plasterboard partition walls. Asymmetric openings can have any shape, and can also be supplemented with all sorts of auxiliary details: shelves, niches, lighting. Such a design acts as a bright element and sets the tone for the entire appearance of the room. Eye-catching, an asymmetric opening helps to hide possible flaws when repairing a room.

Dimensions

It is possible to balance the proportions of the premises in the apartment with the help of doorways without doors. Depending on whether the opening is wide or narrow, high or low, the impression produced varies.

For rooms with low ceilings, it is strongly not recommended to mount narrow spans. Visually, they will make the room tiny and uncomfortable. It is better to choose a wide option that will visually expand the area of \u200b\u200bthe room, add air and light to it. This applies not only to arched openings, but also to rectangular ones.

Optimal Height also depends on the original proportions of the room. If you want to combine two rooms with the help of a gap, it is recommended to make it almost as high as the ceiling. An ordinary span, which serves only as an alternative to a door, should be made much lower, but its height should not be lower than 2 m. In the case of arches, this indicator grows by at least 30 cm. This is due not so much to aesthetic rules as to safety requirements: a person can hit hard on the upper narrow part of the arch in the dark.

When constructing asymmetrical structures, one should be guided by next rule: the more intricate the shape, the wider the opening should be. Too much concentration of monograms and other elements on small space overload the view, making the design unnecessarily pretentious and cumbersome. As a result, instead of a spectacular accent, you will get a tasteless option that you will soon get tired of.

Thus, the size of the doorway is more determined by the characteristics of the room itself, and not by the chosen shape.

Remember that very wide doorways are best designed using some kind of texture, such as embossed moldings. If you use an ordinary smooth cladding, the clearance will be “lost” against the general background of the room and, from an aesthetic point of view, will not look particularly harmonious.

In various rooms

In the vast majority of cases, the expediency of installing a doorless opening is obvious, however, sometimes refusing a door is highly undesirable. Among the rooms in which it is best to leave the door is the kitchen. This is especially true in small apartments, where a strong kitchen smell will be especially annoying. It is not always pleasant when aromas are felt in the living room or bedroom.

The old bored interior of the living room can be changed beyond recognition, at the same time competently expanding the usable area. If you refuse a separate balcony block and from the door to the balcony, it will turn out to make the living room brighter. The balcony will certainly need to be furnished in a style similar to the living room, since the rooms, united by a doorless skylight, should be perceived as a single whole.

You can often encounter cases when they refuse the door between the corridor and the dressing room. Since both of these rooms are quite small and cramped, such a move helps to hide this fact, allowing people to feel more free.

In small apartments, they refuse doors between the hallway and the living room, especially if the apartment is one-room. So the whole area is perceived as a single whole, as a result of which the dwelling seems larger.

In cases where such a small apartment has low ceilings, it is better not to choose an arched shape as an opening. It is much more logical to stop at the classic rectangular span.

Quite rarely they refuse the door to the bedroom, but they do not dare to completely leave the entrance “defenseless”. Come to the rescue blackout curtains or screens, which perfectly protect the intimacy of the room. If necessary, they can be easily and quickly dismantled. An interesting solution is the use of curtains with pickups: at night they can be completely closed, and during the day they will serve as a beautiful frame for the opening.

How to arrange?

The cashing of the opening is made by different materials and in different techniques. You can decorate the interior span with your own hands, or you can turn to professionals who will create a complex and unique decor.

Good idea- decorate the doorway with curtains.

A decorative curtain plays the same role as a door in psychological terms, but it takes much longer. less space. If desired, the curtains can be completely removed without any problems or replaced with others, while the design of the opening will not suffer (for example, if you just remove the door leaf, loops will remain on the span that do not look very attractive).

Another option on how to decorate a doorway without a door is to use additional design elements - various stucco panels. With their help, it will be possible to ennoble any gap, regardless of how smooth walls and in what colors the opening is made. Finishing is extremely simple and often done completely independently.

With the help of stucco molding, it is possible to decorate openings in various styles. For example, you can make a classic arch with columns and heavy curly elements. If you add gilding, you can completely recreate the spirit of baroque or classic. For modern interiors, it is more appropriate to use simple relief moldings with geometric patterns, such as embossed groove lines. If in the first case it was appropriate to opt for pilasters and capitals, then in the second case they should be avoided.

Stucco molding can be found quite rarely, it has practically fallen out of use in recent times. This is due to the relatively small size modern apartments, because in small spaces intricate designs look ridiculous. You should not completely abandon the stucco elements: some of them can help expand the room.

Also, for the design of doorways without doors, artificial stone masonry, clinker tiles or drywall are often used.

materials

Facing a doorway without a door can be done using a variety of materials. The simplest solution is to paint the gap or paste over it with the same wallpaper as the walls. However, there is one “but”: only perfectly even walls are suitable for this, otherwise the whole structure will not look neat enough and made as if hastily.

Another option is to make a box of extensions and put it in the gap or sheathe it MDF panels. In both cases, you get a wooden gap that looks stylish and can be harmoniously integrated into almost any interior.

Framing the opening is best done with valuable wood or its imitation, since it is these solutions that look the best.

It is also possible to sheathe the clearance with drywall. Drywall is a truly unique material. With its help, it is possible to form a structure of almost any configuration, supplementing it with elements from other lightweight materials, such as polyurethane.

A simple plasterboard opening can be easily done on your own, and it will not take much time, but the effect will please.

Often the gaps are laid out with imitation stone or clinker tiles. Clinker tiles imitate brick, while it weighs several times less. They produce tiles of different shapes: there are classic elements, as well as special corner ones. There are a wide variety of sizes on the market, but medium-sized tiles are the most popular. The seams between the tiles are usually rubbed with a compound that exactly imitates the main wall covering.

Artificial stone looks more interesting than clinker tiles. There are imitations of various materials: limestone, marble, malachite and many others. This material has a lot of advantages: such a lining looks expensive, harmonizes perfectly with other finishing materials, has a long service life and wear resistance, and is also very easy to clean. The laying of such material can be carried out either in a geometrically well-thought-out order, or randomly - both options look equally successful.

Both tiles and stone are fixed either on tile adhesive (when the walls under them are not aligned well enough), or on liquid nails (if the walls have a perfectly flat surface).

Options in the interior

A rather simple opening with a slightly curved edge adds pomposity and grandeur to the room. Its unusual structure is made in rather restrained proportions: straight lines are used, there is no complex decoration. The almost even square shape contributes to the visual preservation of the proportions of the room, without creating any visual illusions.

Usage natural materials welcome when creating the design of a doorless opening. Wood and raw stone harmonize well with each other, despite the fact that the tree was selected of valuable species, and the stone is the most ordinary. The play on contrasts deserves special attention: firstly, wood and stone contrasting in color are used, and secondly, a smooth edge wooden casing adjacent to the torn edges of the masonry.

It is enough to figure out what materials and how to ennoble the doorway after installing the metal entrance structure, so that this operation can be performed by yourself, saving on expensive services of craftsmen.

The face of a modern building or dwelling is the front door. The attractiveness of the external appearance of the building depends on the quality of its manufacture and installation. In most cases, the owners of apartments, offices, houses today install iron structures that are durable, reliable in operation, and easy to maintain. It is easy for the consumer to choose the ideal door in all respects. You can purchase a product of the most unpretentious design or a truly spectacular design with original decorative inserts and elements.

Plastering is the easiest way to finish door slopes

At the same time, regardless of the type of door, care should be taken to properly ennoble the opening after its installation. Only in this case the entrance to the house will look perfect. Finishing the doorway after installing one or another iron door often trusted by experts. But their services cost a lot of money. Any home master can avoid financial expenses. To do this, you just need to figure out how the ennoblement of the doorway is performed. Most often, the design of the entrance group is carried out in the following ways:

  1. 1. Plastering with compositions based on sand and cement. Well known finish. It is optimal for decorating doors in household and utility buildings, baths, garages. If you use plaster mixtures to decorate the entrance to a dwelling, you need to additionally decorate the opening with suitable finishing materials with high decorative characteristics.
  2. 2. Improvement of slopes with wood-fiber (MDF) boards. These products are inexpensive, their use allows you to perform high-quality thermal insulation of the doorway and at the same time give it an aesthetic appearance.
  3. 3. Finishing with sheets of drywall (gypsum plasterboard). An affordable way to decorate a door. It is actively used by owners of commercial and residential premises.

Also, PVC panels and decorative stone are used for decoration.

Finishing with plaster - ready for the hard work?

If the repair measures in the room are not completed, you can finish the opening metal structure plaster mix. This work, let's say right away, requires considerable costs. physical strength, as well as knowledge of the basic rules for the preparation and use cement-sand compositions. The procedure is performed according to the following scheme:

  • Remove the old plaster mixture, thoroughly clean the opening from dirt and debris.
  • Apply the primer to the cleaned substrate. We recommend using for concrete and brick surfaces.
  • Set up beacons using building level and fix them with cement mortar.
  • Cover the door frame and areas around it with masking tape.
  • Install a reinforcing fiberglass mesh on the surface to be improved.
  • Add water to the plaster. It is better to buy ready-made mixtures in hardware store, not so much material is required, it makes no sense to mix sand and cement on your own. The required amount of liquid is indicated on the package with plaster.

Now proceed to the main stage of the operation. First, fill with plaster voids in the wall surface, large potholes. And then press the rule to the beacons and treat the surface with the composition as evenly as possible. You will have to wait until the mixture hardens, after which you should evaluate the results of your work. Often, bumps and small cracks appear on the plastered dried areas. Of course they need to be removed. This can be done by puttying (use finishing mixtures) and painting the leveled surface with a suitable color paint.

It takes 2-3 days for the plaster to dry completely. It is best to take acrylic paint, intended for decorating facades. She is not afraid of low temperatures and moisture. The plastered and painted doorway visually looks very neat. It can then be further ennobled to your liking. finishing material. But do not forget that not every home craftsman will be able to beautifully finish the slopes with plaster. If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to abandon this venture.

Finishing the front door opening with wood-fiber products is relatively simple. You will need to purchase three pieces of a bending decorative corner, platbands and MDF panels, about 9 meters of guide rails, dowels, self-tapping screws, liquid nails, a jigsaw saw, mounting foam, cement mortar, a chisel, a brace, a chisel, a tape measure, a construction knife, a simple pencil . Immediately select the type of finishing products. They are painted, laminated and veneered.

The first type of wood fiber panels is not suitable for finishing a metal structure (they have low strength). Laminated material is very beautiful in appearance, has good strength characteristics. Veneered products are considered the most reliable. Now we will describe in detail how to decorate the doorway of the front door with MDF panels as competently as possible. But first, let's give some important tips. Firstly, you need to very accurately determine the parameters of the door leaf (up to a millimeter). Secondly, the distance between the internal slopes of the structure is always taken less than the distance between the external ones. It is important. Thirdly, in relation to the level of the box, the slopes should be mounted 15–20 mm lower.

With the help of MDF panels, you can perform high-quality thermal insulation of the doorway and give it an aesthetic appearance.

The finishing process itself is as follows. Remove from slopes old paint, whitewash, plaster, seal the gaps between the door and the wall surface with foam, as well as the holes on the surface. After hardening, cut off excess mounting material with a construction knife. Treat the slopes with a primer solution, level them with cement mortar or plaster. Press (carefully) the mounting profile into the corners of the surface to be treated. These guides will become the basis for decorating the slopes.

Then cut out the top and two side elements from the MDF panels, focusing on the dimensions of the door. Treat the upper part of the slope with adhesive and press the prepared part to it. Do the same with the side elements. You need to press the panels hard enough and hold them until you feel that the glue has completely seized. After that, the gaps between the wall and the MDF products are closed with a plastic corner (such material is easy to find in any hardware store), which is fixed. The outer parts of the slopes can be ennobled with cashing (nailed with nails of suitable size) or with the same decorative corner.

Some self-taught masters do not pre-level the slopes. They simply nail the guide rails, and then mount MDF products on them. You can try to trim the front door opening in a similar way.

GKL are suitable for refining surfaces adjacent to doors from the side of the room (from the inside). In this case, wall drywall is used. Also prepare in advance a bucket for mixing plaster, a hammer, a tape measure, metal screws, 6x60 mm mushroom dowels, an adhesive for plasterboard, a perforator, plastic guide and starting profiles, a spatula, a screwdriver, stationery or special knife.

GKL are suitable for refining surfaces adjacent to doors from the side of the room (from the inside).

Algorithm for designing slopes from the inside:

  1. 1. Blow the mounting foam into the gaps and recesses on the surface. Cut off (after hardening) excess pieces with a knife or spatula.
  2. 2. Every 0.2 m, drill holes along the perimeter of the slopes with a puncher. Install dowels with screws. It is not necessary to tighten the hardware until it stops.
  3. 3. On three sides of the opening, measure the dimensions of the profile (starting). Mount the latter, fix it with metal screws.
  4. 4. Cut the plasterboard into three parts according to the required dimensions. The width of the opening and the slope from above should be the same.
  5. 5. Prepare the adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions. Stir the composition thoroughly (the presence of lumps in the composition is not allowed).
  6. 6. Lubricate the plasterboard strips and the areas where the dowels are mounted with glue.
  7. 7. Get the edge of the drywall strip into the guide from above, press it. Put spacers and wait 2-3 hours. During this time, the adhesive will seize tightly.

Then install the side strips in the same way. Be sure to check the accuracy of installation with a building level. Glue protruding onto the surface of the drywall should be wiped off with a rag without delay. If you leave it, the GKL is guaranteed to bend, and instead of a beautiful decorative finish, you will get unattractive curved slopes.

After completing all the described procedures, wait 12 hours and proceed to puttying the slopes. And then paint the opening in the desired color and enjoy the impeccable look of the door structure.
